Filled with more knowledge than he can pour out. Seems to expect us to know the same though.

Great professor! Worth taking.
Guy should be on Jeopardy, he is filled wit knowledge, but very hard grader, lots of notes and reading....
Understanding, know his **** w/relevant real political experience....nice guy!
Best Poli Sci Professor on campus.Real life experience and book smarts! Knows everything and expects only the best from his students. PS- The robes he wears to graduation are the absolute coolest thing you will ever see!
yeah i agree this guy is full of knowledge...he maybe some what hard but he's really cool! :)
His encyclopedic knowledge really motivates people to learn, and not read. The Best Prof on Campus, period!
So knowledgable and will go out of his way to help you if you go to his office. Very old school professor type, in a good way.
Prof. Myers is very very bright and a really nice guy. The tests are really hard (a little too hard for an intro class), but that was secondary to the wealth of information we were presented with.
Amazing professor, who made the class very interesting from his amazing amount of knowledge. His exams are hard but fair, and there's a a paper, but you'll learn more in this class than probably in any other class with any prof. Very helpful too.
one word sums it up EXCELLENT. He is a dynamic and fun lecturer. He knows what he is talking about and explains it in such a manor. Exams are fair and he will go out of his way to work with you. Dedicated to learning it is obvius. Great Professor
He tells his lectures like a story and makes them very interesting. He's very accomodating by trying to make his office hours flexible and makes himself available to answer any questions or confusions.
The only two characters that may be smarter than me: Frank Myers and God.
Do not take this class for a DEC, because it will bring down your GPA. He requires a lot of reading for this three tests. His test involve a lot of material. Yea, he is a good lecturor, but seriously, I went to all the classes, and ended up getting a C. NO CURVE>
Wonderful man and great teacher. Makes everything so interesting. He is very smart and he takes the time to understand each of his students.
A lot of reading. But you have to sort it out, because you do not much of it. He is super nice. Very interesting professor. Subject is very interesting. Recommended.
He's a good people!!!
His tests are extremely hard, and so his listening to him for more than 10 minutes. You need to do a lot of reading, because you learn and be tested on more countries than any other class. There is no curve, and there is only one 5 pts extra credit. He doesn't to give A,A-, or B+.
I just love this guy. He's so nice and he shows how much he loves teaching. He's an easy grader when it comes to essays. Just make sure you know what you're talking about. What I love about this guy is that he's so willing to help you out. He'll make sure that your questions are answered.
Best professor I've had at Stony Brook. He knows exactly what he is teaching and it seems like his knowledge is endless. If you are serious about the courses he teachers then take it, but it is not an easy grade. Hard work will get you through this class but he is an excellent professor.
he is so knowledgeable and incredible well organized. go to class and pay attention and ull get a good grade
Smartest guy ever! Is able to answer almost any question with a very thoughtful, intelligent answer. If you came to college to actually learn, this is the guy who will help you!
Seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had. He knows absolutely everything about the subject, teaches it well, and overall is just a great and happy guy.
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
He is a very good professor.. His classes are a bit difficult, but its college and I'm here for a challenge..he cares a lot for his students and he is incredibly knowledgeable..if you have the chance take pol 350 with him..you won't regret it!!
very very knowledgeable but it wasn't the easiest class, although there is a curve
Professor Myers has this way of bringing irrelevant subject matters into his class but nevertheless they are very interesting. His style of teaching is very traditional but liberal. A great lecturer and academic.
Very Very knowledgable, adds interesting stories to lectures, which helps you understand the material. Tests weren't easy, because there is a lot of reading, but he does curve. I signed up for another class with him next sem.
This guy is great. He just knows everything there is to know about political science. Unfortunately, that makes weeding out exactly what to study a little on the tricky side. He's a little (very) set in his ways as far as grading and such, and doesn't respond to emails, but I stand by my saying that he's an awesome professor.
LOVED him. so sweet. he loves what he does and you can tell. class wasnt at the peak of my interests but i loved coming to class because he was so nice. tests can be hard, PAY ATTENTION in class!

Don't take this class with him, it was very hard for an intro...alot of note taking and reading...tricy tests...take it with the other professor...much easier.
This is a hard class but worth it..I took him for POL 103 as well but POL 350 was easier. He is a nice guy and very easy to talk to. But if you are not into reading and writing, don't take 350 with him...but you will learn a lot if you do.
so great professor!!!!!!!!!
if u read ur material and read ur notes constantly, u'll prolly do well. he's very nice and u can tell he's well knowledgable. encourages questions, the exams are kinda hard. not an easy class to fulfill a dec.
not a fair class for a 100 level and dec
Very hard essay tests,4 to 6 a test. If you don't do the reading, your screwed...If you like to know what info is going to be on the midterm and final don't take him
The man is a walking encyclopedia. The exams aren't esasy (all essays) but if you come to class and listen and have a basic familiarity of the readings, you'll do more than OK. Extremely interesting lectures and a fair grader.
Professor Myers is one of the best, if not the best, professor at the entire university. His lectures alone are some of the most interesting material and he knows his subject extremely well. He can be somewhat of a harsh grader, but then again this is a 300-level. I wouldn't recommend his 300-levels for a DEC, but for true polisci/history majors
awesome teacher!! really helpful, has tons of stories and pretty funny. his class is challenging though. tends to wear the same tie everyday.
Seems like an easy grader to me, I wasn't in class the last half of the semester, showed up and screwed up the final and still didn't fail. But he is a very nice guy although lectures were pretty boring.
fair and easy grader!! you have to take his class before you leave this university.
exams focus of text and some lec material. very interesting guy, brilliant! do the work and it's an easy A. I definately got a lot out of this class!
The tests are very hard and based almost completely on the text, don't disreguard the sidebars! Listening to him rivals watching paint dry. HOWEVER, he is extremely nice and wants ou to genuinly be interested. If you work really hard he will give you a good grade. It seems like he curves the F's up to C's as a starting point for grading.
Amazing, wonderful lecturer! Very knowledgable and insightful, takes care to answer students questions, just one of the best professors on this campus, period. Class is by no means easy; make SURE to pay ATTENTION and take GOOD notes in class. Readings aren't as important as good notes, though they help with background. Not a problem to get an A.
He's an amazing professor. He's incredibly knowledgeable, brilliant, in fact. BUT, and this is a huge but, his tests are really hard and very unpredictable. I got a C on the first one and an A on the second one. Takes the best 3 out of 5 pop quizzes. They're not hard. TAKE NOTES IN CLASS!
As a bio major, i can say that this prof is the smartest in the whole university, hands down. That is also the problem, as not everyone can keep up with him!!!
On a level with Barnhart from History IMHO, though probably not as engaging for some people. His lectures are fascinating, insightful, BRILLIANT stuff; really explains the politics as thoroughly as he can. Therein lies the problem, as some of the material can be complex for an intro class and his tests are detail heavy. Take GOOD CONCISE NOTES!
Reading is about 150pages a week, no tests, and your grade is based subjectively on 1 final project. attendance will be held every time
Very difficult class for 100-level. Not an easy A. Professor-intelligent, but tricky questions on tests. You'll learn a lot though. LOT of reading
Very hard class, you have to study constantly to be on top. Struggled throughout the whole semester, but pulled thru in the end. He is very nice and funny but not too helpful, he will just tell you to study everything.
As a science major, best professor so far!! Lectures are interesting. The tests are hard, but not if you study from your notes. You don't need the text if you take very detailed notes (i mean very detailed). Things that you think will not be on the test are on it. Took him for 103 and 305 and plan on taking 350 with him next semester.
A lot of material is covered in this class, and at a rapid pace. Tests are difficult, quizzes however were very easy. Prof. Myers is brilliant and charmingly absent-minded. Good anecdotal stories and jokes. Not the most engaging class, subject matter a bit dry. Don't take for DEC unless interested. I got a B+ w/ moderate effort and good interest.
Just a great teacher. Nothing to worry about. It's a 300 level, expect essay tests and a paper. Good grader and fair test maker. Great teaching!
extremely easy class with a wonderful professor. i can't say enough about this man. he's older but is very relateable and intelligent. always had great little quips and factoids that made lectures suprisingly interesting. go to class b/c he gives quizzes regularly and read the text his midterms and finals draw heavily from it.
Absolutely one of the best professors at Stony Brook. Everyone I've talked to loves this guy. He's older and very knowledgeable, and very smart - not to mention entertaining, as he relates lots of great anecdotes. Can't recommend him enough.
Great Professor. I highly recommend taking his class whether or not you are a political science major. You do have to attend the lectures and review most of the reading but he has a great approach to teaching and it's very enjoyable to listen to him
I took Frank Myer's class 3 years ago and I still remember it fondly. It's a great class but you do have to work for your grade. He inspired my love for the British House of Commons.
extremely dedicated to teaching, giving it his full effort. An admirable man.
Don't take this class if you don't like to be challenged. He seems very dedicated to his profession and expects a lot of his students. It's tough to get an A in this course, but manageable. Interesting lectures, and a nice guy in person.
He is my favorite teacher in Stony Brook. He is very dedicated and knowledgeable; therefore you don't need the textbook. Just come to class and take a lot of good notes and you should get a good grade. Test are challenging; but his not a harsh grader. Final isn't as hard.
This guy was a good teacher . However, the test questions were completely unexpected. Though I believe I understood the material quite throughly, some of the questions were mind-boggling. I went to class and felt very strongly about the material, the test results didn't reflect it. If you want to learn, take his class. If you want an A, don't.
he really cares about the students...if you do your work you should get an A. grades fairly. he encourages a lot of discussion. its important to read the books, otherwise you wont be able to participate and a lot of the grade is based on that.
Easiest seminar, class is all participation, one paper with presentation. He's the smartest guy at SB and is also the nicest. You'll learn a lot too.
Very boring professor and tests are very hard. He writes notes on the blackboard so you HAVE to go to class and write down notes.
Prof. Myers is an extraordinary teacher, mentor, person. He is almost like a walking encyclopedia. What can I say, the man is brilliant when it comes to politics and history. The class is interesting if you like politics and history. Seminar style so a lot of interaction. Attend, participate in class, write a good final paper and you will get an A.
This class is very interesting. He really knows his stuff. Tests are difficult, but if you read the chapters, go to class (study notes of course), you should be able to get at least a B+. He also gives extra credit. Class is 2 midterms, 1 final, 5 quizzes (2 are dropped) and Extra Credit. He is very fair, clear, and helpful. Cares about the student
a real genius, its a privelege to take this class. A very easy seminar that simply requires some interesting (albeit lengthy) reading and participation. most of the grade is comprised of ONE essay/presentation which he judges you easily upon. you can learn a lot here and no POL major should graduate without having this man at least once.
Great Professor. Full of information that is useful and relevant to the class. Additionally,he is one of the few Professors who actually cares about his students. All of the Professors at SB could learn a few things from Professor Myers.
I would swear that this guy used to be a motivtional speaker or Had some indianna jones type adventure in political science. hard class but REALLY KNOW his stuff and talk about as if it was best extreamly enthusasticaly
Best professor i've ever had. Incredibly helpful, dauntingly intelligent. I've had easier teachers, but this guy just stands in the front of the class and lets rip with amazing information. I went out of my way to take him for every class I could and i'd suggest you do the same if you're really interested in the material.
He is one of the most intelligent professors I've had thus far. He knows his stuff, is interesting and eloquent, a sweetheart too. I absolutely adore his lectures and him as a person. Definitely recommend him and Professor Grim.
He should have a show on the discover, history channel, or CSPAN. Really engages is Students. Make boring material interesting. You will actually remember alot of his material His mannerism are interesting. Mild class, not to difficult.
Amazing professor. Tests are not hard if you read the textbook & there are sporadic quizzes. He is extremely intelligent and a master of the material, and he eagerly answers any question you have. His side stories are interesting and hilarious. Can't wait to take more of his classes. If you are interested in the material you will LOVE this class!
Easily one of my favorite teachers ever. Tests are hard if you do not read the textbook (which has a lot of unneeded material but is interesting). Lectures are always interesting, it's impossible to fall asleep with the great stories he tells. Attendance isn't taken but you will WANT to go to class. Overall amazing professor, HIGHLY recommended
His voice will tend to cause you to drift away a little bit if you didn't sleep well the night before. Don't be fooled by his meandering lectures, he knows his stuff. Take good notes and highlight everything he reads off from the text and you'll get an A or A- on the exams no problem.
AMAZING teacher. He is extremely interesting but does not use blackboard so u have to go to class and take notes
The guy obviously knows his material and talks about current events in great detail. He's very enthusiastic about what he does and always wants to get the class involved. When he wants to stress a point, he tends to repeat himself. Tests require the textbook! I feel like I learned a lot and don't care that I had to miss lunch to go there.
great teacher, get him before he retires!!! a lot of reading, go to class, engaging, brilliant, overall very good teacher!!
Brilliant man. Was a pleasure to be in his class due to his vast knowledge of the topic. Grades very fair. If you need a DEC, take this class. He was very helpful too when it came to writing the 10 page essay for the class as well.
This guy really knows what he is lecturing about. Gives very good examples and is very helpful and doesn't seem to think there are any bad questions. Very nice guy, sadly he's retiring i believe. Oh but i hate that textbook with a passion -____-
This man is the walking encyclopedia of the world. He knows vast amounts of knowledge with just about every single country. Lectures get boring at times, and there is no blackboard use but if you read the book, you can do just fine as the tests are MC and theres also ocassionally Extra Credit
Myers is awesome because he's really friendly, quirky, and sweet. My biggest problem with the class is that he speaks at the same level of people's whispers and notebook pages ruffling. He is brilliant and he alternates his test questions from the book and lecture. One of the TA's review sessions were a complete waste of time.
What a brilliant man! He is completely inspiring, knows tons of facts and anecdotes about almost every country and its political members. Very friendly. Uses textbook and lecture questions on tests. Gives a few pop quizzes as well, but they're MC. Great class!
The most inspirational professor of my undergraduate studies. I had him for political philosophy, as well as Politics of Great Britain. I TA'd for his 103 class my senior year. Perhaps the greatest personal benefit I can attribute to his class is the assignment of The Road to Serfdom by Hayek. Myers is truly among education's finest.
very wise and helpful old man, but the amount of work and reading is huge... not easy...
Amazing professor. Probably the best I ever had. In addition to Directed Research I took Mass Political Theory and Classical Political Theory with him (the latter two are not offered anymore apparently). He loved Political Philosophy and conveyed the development of ideologies flawlessly. Great reading list. ie Ortega y Gasset, Hayek, Habermas.
great professor and great guy. he may seem boring but if you watch the movies, read the material and listen to the lectures, you'll learn a lot. The readings are a bit much and good for your interest. to get an A you should: come to class, participate, and do the assignments - very minimal work
I took Dr. Myers' course in fall '05 and after 10 years his words still resonate. His definition of the state profoundly influenced my politics. I never took his political theory course, but in retrospect I'm not surprised he teaches Hayek. I only hope that other students have been as influenced by him as I have.
Currently taking the course. I haven't gone to it as frequently as I would have liked to, and I feel absolutely awful for it. He's an amazing man, very thoughtful and intelligent and really gets you excited about the material, if a little dry at times (both the lectures and material). If he leaves this semester, I will miss him dearly.
His exams are really difficult and he's boring and dull. He's friendly though but it seems he gets scared easily if you walk up behind him lol. He enjoys when people come to his office hours.
Prof. Myers was born to be an educator. I had him for POL 350 and 403, two of my favorite classes. The papers in both classes were some of the most fun and enriching assignments I had while at SBU, and he grades very fairly. Over his long career, he has amassed a huge wealth of knowledge, you simply must take a class with him before he retires!
Dr. Myers is the best the Poli Sci dept at Stony has to offer. My only regret is that I did not participate in class more. TAKE HIM. I hope he never retires #lol.
