Quite possibly the best teacher I've ever had in any subject. EVERYONE loves this guy.
Had him when I was at Ball State University. Excellent professor. Pushed us to think outstide the box.
The best teacher I've ever had. Super clear and direct. He's also pretty funny. The only way to do bad in his classes are to have your head up your rear orifice or just not show up. His classes are easy to get involved in, don't be afraid to speak up.
Absolutely loved his teaching! He was someone I could trust with critiquing my work. He had a way of explaining things that to this day I keep in mind when taking pictures!

Great teacher. Really fun class.
Pretty good professor, knows a lot about the subject but not very understanding at all. The assignments weren't explained well, but I liked the discussion board format.
took his course online which was an easy A. i would recommend everyone take it.
cool guy... easy and fun class
i like him. very helpful, a fun class. i also had him for photo 100 (i think that was the course) and he is the one who introduced me into how fun photo is, so now when i transfer my major is going to be photojournalism. thanks to him!!
A very good teacher. He is actually interested in how you are learning the subject rather than getting his paycheck. he helped me with stuff outside the class by giving me advice and was always ready and willing to help.
I took his online class...he is helpful when problems arise with blackboard and he is willing to make substitutions as far a films go when you can't find a certain film. He also doesn't make you take the final if you are happy with the grade you currently have.
This guy was a real jerk to me. His online class was totally unorganized and he wasn't clear at all. I do not recommend this teacher to anyone.
I had his online class. His class expectations are spread out over several documents, some of which contridict each other or are confusing. When I asked him for clarification I often recieved an insulting tone with the reply.
Very nice guy! Very fun class! Not hard at all, easy tests, easy writing assignments, easy final that is based off the other tests EXACTLY! Just keep your tests and study em! Anyways like I said this is a very fun class and if you need an art class or whatever to transfer then I highly recommend this one! Easy A!
Great Teacher! I took this class online with no desire and it was actually really cool. Lots of assignments, but a piece of cake. Interesting and fun class overall.
Frank Foster is undoubtedly one of the best teachers I have ever had. He's hilarious, his assignments are innovative, and his class structure is comfortable and easily navigated. This man is a rock star.
Enjoyed the online class and the prof. seems very upbeat is his postings.
Wow! He is an amazing teacher! When he teaches, he really gives you a passion for what you're leaning. Besides that he's funny and always keeps you interested. His tests are a little on the hard side, but they challenge you to learn more. I came away from it with a world of more knowledge than I had befor.:)
Extremely recommended. easy A either online or in the class. works with the student. due dates on homework won't matter for him. cool teacher.
So easy. It was fun. I really liked the teacher.
Mr. Foster is a really fun teacher. You watch approx. 10 movies in class and than write a paper on things he wants you to. Each one needs a minimum word count of 500. He grades high if you go over this and have something good to say in the paper. Tests are not hard as he goes over what is covered. Not an easy A.
TOOK 8 WEEK ONLINE COURSE. HE IS A GREAT PROFESSOR WHO GOES OUT OF HIS WAY TO REMIND US WHEN ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE. HIS SYLLABUS IS REALLY LONG AND SORT OF SCARED ME AT FIRST. ABOUT 15 ASSIGNMENTS(ALL WRITING ASSIGNMENTS, NO QUIZZES OR EXAMS.VERY GENEROUS WITH EXTRA CREDIT IF YOU NEED IT. I WORKED HARD ON ALL ASSIGNMENTS AND GOT AN A!
Great teacher who I enjoyed taking very much. We watched some amazing eye-opening movies that I otherwise would not have had the opportuniy to see. He tells you everything thats going to be on test so its important that u attend. This is irrelevent but he has a Super sexy speaking voice!
This guy is freakin awesome. I'm a dude, but I put hot cause he's a bamf teacher. He gives really fun assignments, he knows a ton about the subject, is a great photographer himself, and really makes you understand how to produce good photo's. I absolutely loved the class and wished he taught more classes than he does. If you like photog, take him!
He is an amazing teacher!!! I would say he is one of the greatest proffesors at VVC. I would definetely recommend him, he is very helpful, funny and his class is alot of fun.
He is AMAZING. Born to be a teacher. He knows what he teaches and he teaches it well. He picks FANTASTIC movies. His OCD is also wonderful, his assignments are fair, his essays are fair, as long as you listen to him then you will have NO problems. I would go out of my way to take one of his classes. He is the best, no questions about it.
Frank is great, and really works with you to help you understand what he wants. Do more than is expected and you will get a higher grade. Highly recommended!!
Fun teacher! Very passionate about his work
Very fun and interesting class. HE is very cool and down to earth. Makes yuo see life in a different point of view. Dont know what else to say, but he just rocks. READ YOUR TERMS AND KNOW WHAT THEY MEAN...
Mr. Foster is really a great teacher I learned alot about film as an art form and history as well. Great class great teacher.
Excellent teacher with lots of knowledge. Nice class to take.
Frankie is the hottest fox on campus! He is funny! He is entertaining !!! Frankie can we have a mixer with the fixer???? You are single and me want to mingle!
I took his online class for film history and There is no way to put it other then I LOVE LOVE LOVE this class. Great class very easy, if you do the work. fun work too. Not hard at all. He always wrote back my emails, quickly. He just seems like he really cares. Nice guy! Would take any class he teaches.
He is the best teacher in the college. he is funny and knows when to be serious. He will help. Always has time for the students.
Greatest Teacher who has ever entered education! He makes learning fun and easy! He will work with you if there is something you are not getting. He will make you laugh so hard, your sides split. Every class is like sitting in at a Comedy Club!
He is an incredible teacher. I learned quite a lot by taking this film class. He taught me so much. I enjoyed this class so much. & the movies we watched were so good. I recommend taking his film as an art form class.
Class was a breeze...Makes you watch Citizen Kane..but not too bad of a movie either.
I took the 8 week Art History class. The textbook is required, the latest version because all the assignments require it in someway. He is VERY clear on what he wants and emails responds quickly, as well as giving you a heads up when he has time to respond. The grades are updated constantly. It is easy to get a good grade if you work for it.
So you know: he uses email daily in the class -- if this bugs you, you may want to set up a folder for his messages in advance. Great feedback, response, helpful with assignments. Syllabus is a bit wordy, but he breaks down what's expected week by week. If you can write endlessly about art, you'll be perfectly fine. ENGL 101 recommended first.
I love Foster. He's a great guy and you can tell he truly loves films and art. Very passionate and very kind. The assignments are very clear and he goes over them in detail... Only criticism is that he talks ALOT during the films.. Other than that he's fabulous.
Very interesting class, you need the book and take good notes. But his final is a hard one, but a good teacher
Pretty cool guy! Super passionate about his job. The films we watched were pretty interesting and eye opening! If you take decent notes, the quizzes will be simple and the final as well!
Frank Foster is an excellent teacher. He connects well with his students and has an extensive knowledge of the subject matter he teaches. Highly recommend taking his class. Be prepared to write papers on the films you watch.
Great professor. I took the class only because I needed an art and ended up enjoying it a lot. MR Foster was always passionate with his teachings. Really helped you grasp the ideas and art behind movies.a lot of essays but was very easy going on format. Thanks Mr Foster...movies will never be the same.
10 topic papers might seem like a lot, but they aren't really essays, just 5-6 questions that you have to answer using at least 100 words each. Pay attention to his lectures and you'll know the 10 questions that will be on the test. And watch the films... no modern blockbusters but they are all good. Easy A.
Awesome guy, all the films we watched were very interesting.
Foster is funny but is serious if any students are not serious. Movies are cool, only did not care for one. Must write papers for each film. Pay close attention to lectures and take notes for the quizzes. Final is like a combined between all the quizzes. Take his class for an easy A
Very funny, passionate teacher. This class ended up being fun and interesting. I took it during the summer which was fast-paced but in a good way!I did not buy the book, but got an A! He prefers the book but the quizzes, midterm, & final come directly from lecture notes & movie notes (no book necessary)
This is a great class. Pretty much consists of watching a movie, then writing a paper. I learned a lot about the art of film and my perspective while viewing them has forever changed. I highly recommend Prof. Foster. Easy A. (FYI: He's listed on registration as John Foster)
Foster is a great professor! His ART 104 class was the easiest class I took all semester. All you do is watch a movie, write a paper about the movie, listen to his lecture, and repeat the process. Plus the tests are really easy. The only thing that sucks is you have to bring the textbook to every class because Foster uses it for his lectures.
If you do all your work and try to focus on writing in detail you will get a good grade. This is a class that requires a lot of writing but don't be scared away it's a great class. My interest level in films is high as I am a film fanatic but he changed some of my perceptions. Great teacher! Great class.
This class was incredibly easy, and I liked the course material. Be warned though, he will fail people for misspelling and is very rude to his students. Only take this class if you are good with the English language.
I will not have this teacher again. In my opinion, you have to have pretty good spelling/grammer because he grades on that. Also we write a paper on art with over 500 words every couple days until the class ends but to me he doesn't give much freedom for what you write. Also in my opinion, he sets too many rules for his papers.
He's a piece of work. He would yell at his students for not saying an answer verbally loud enough. His lectures suck. He gives away movie ending. He's just not in my opinion a good teacher.
Professor Foster was a great online teacher. He was there when I needed extra clarity on assignments and gave feedback on my papers. I would definitely like to take another class with him.
He is very specific and clear with his instructions on assignments and will repeat them frequently throughout the semester. He follows the syllabus more than 90% and makes you work for your grade. If you study the material given in his lectures, attend class, there is no reason why you can't pass this class with an "A". Great instructor for Art.
Frank is a really great teacher, from the experience I had. His lectures are a little long, but he always keeps them entertaining. You get to watch really unique films. There is a lot of writing, but it is college and it really opens your mind with the questions he has. I really liked his class and if you're looking to open your mind, take him.
Keeps to the syllabus, lots of writing and grades on conventions. High expectations. Frequent emails, can be condesending.
He seems to talk down to his students in all of his communications, as if we're just wasting his time and he's highly superior to any student. He doesn't respond to emails, once again giving that sense of not being worth his time. His assignments don't really teach anything, just useless busywork. He's obsessed with word count over quality of work
This class is really fun. ALL you have to do is watch the films, follow his very clear grading criteria, do more than the minimum word count requirement, and give lots of details. Other than that it's art. It's your own interpretation of the films and as long as you're in the ball park you'll do well. Easy A.
Mr. Foster's class was excellent.
Really straightforward kind of guy, hates slackers and people who make excuses. Assigns 500 word papers for every movie we watched, but they're just question and answer format not really "essays." Be prepared to take lots of notes during films, and if you take bad notes that will definitely affect your grade.
Super easy class, basically watch a movie and write about it. His lectures are interesting as well, since he's passionate about the subject. He's also a cool professor and will talk about the movies. Easy grader, you'll get an A if you just write with a little effort. He lectures about the text, if you take good notes, you won't need the text.
Online experience is difficult to navigate. He uses multiple colors, font sizes , inconsistent Assignment Titles within BB, 5 different folders to access for one assignment, its can be confusing. He's is not clear about essay requirements:Syllabus says 500 words min, but takes point away if its not over 1,000. Then make the requirement 1,000?!
I was really appalled at how much he talked down to his students in his e-mails. Subject matter is easy. His Blackboard is difficult to make sense of and descriptions of assignments change all the time, it can be hard to know which one he's talking about. Sort of like: You know that one assignment about the guy with the thing. Dude, really?
The class is pretty easy as long as you follow instructions. His instructions are usually longer than the actual assignment, and would be more helpful if he was more straight forward. He is rather condescending in the way writes his assignments assuming we know nothing about the subject, and letting you know you probably don't know.
Frank Foster is a spectacular professor. His class is an easy class if you do all the work that is required. Also, his notes are a piece of cake because he gives you the notes. Helpful tip, when you do his assignments for his movies write more than 500 words because the more you write the better chance your grade will be 100% on his assignments.
Mr. Foster is by far one of the best teachers I've had. He pretends to be a tough and mean teacher but in all honestly he's the nicest guy. He will set aside time to work one on one with students if they are struggling. He is understanding as easy to work with. He will make absolutely sure that you are right on track, all you have to do is ask.
This guy is rude!!! He sends out like 10 emails weekly, and confuses you by how many he sends about those weekly assignments. It is cool that he reminds you, but then they are just annoying because if you do one thing wrong on your assignment you get a zero, and he blames it on you for not reading the assignment and his emails correctly.
This has been the best class I've taken at VVC and had a perfect score on Essays. He is super easy just follow his directions and you wouldn't have a problem. If I didn't pass then I would of been in this class multiple times.
Totally enjoyed this class. In all fairness, if you follow his directions correctly you will do exceptionally well in this class. Do read everything he sends. It cannot get any easier to say. Answer the questions he asks, half the work is following direction. He is a great teacher and has a lot to offer.
Yes, lots he sends lots of emails. Why, because most people do not follow what he asks for. He gives you every opportunity to excel in this class. His class is tough, but once you understand how he teaches, you can pass this class with a good grade.
Frank is hilarious. His grading and expectations are very clear. If you do the bare minimum, you get an average grade. It's not difficult to follow his direction and do well in his course while learning. He makes his course fun and interesting. I have recommended his course to others as he is one of the best and truly cares about his students.
The assignments are fairly easy as long as you follow instructions. He likes to assume everyone in his class is stupid. He sends a bunch of rude emails to the class. His assignments can be a bit confusing.
Took this class in fall of 2015. Foster is awesome, lectures are interesting especially if you like movies. Most classes are spent watching movies, then students turn in papers online after movie is finished. If you paid attention in class easy A. DON'T be late, he hates when students are late and is not afraid to call you out!
Mr. Foster is a great teacher. He is very detailed with instructions on how to write the required assignments. Basically if you follow the directions, you get an A. If you can't follow basic instructions, you get a zero. Pretty simple, if you ask me. Would definitely recommend him.
Mr. Foster is a great teacher. He even advise you to save money on books with older edition. He's there when you need help and emails you quick. Follow what he requires and you will get an A. You might think he gives to much homework or a lot of papers but they aren't hard if you follow what he ask for. I am not good in writing but I got all A's.
Professor Foster is an easy professor to learn with. He gives really good advice at the start of the class. What books to buy, and how to save money. He assigns a lot of homework; however, they are not very difficult. If you include everything he wants, you will get a good score. Professor Foster also responds to e-mails quick during the weekday.
This would be my second timr taking this professor. I suggest everyone take him. All he asks of you is to do simple things. They aren't hard at all. He has everything laid out for you already. I haven't scored lower than a 100. He replies back to you in good time, and he offers feedback in your work. People who don't appreciate that will complai.
Professor Foster is great. It may seem overwheming. He gives out a lot of essays, but I took an 8 week course. The essays are very easy, but time consuming. Also gives good feedback. I was told that my papers were outstanding and detailed. He also explain what you need to do to pass the class, just follow directions and there shouldnt be a problem.
His name is John. He says certain things are in the book, but you could google the image instead. He assigns about 3 assignments a week, but the work is straightforward. he'll tell you exactly what he wants and where to find it. If you do it the way he tells you, the class is easy. All his assignments have the same questions. No late work at all
Ready to write! Each assignment is at least 200 words and we have 2 or 3 essays every week. Final is 1000 words. discuasion board a few times.
We have to write 2 or 3 essays every week and it has to be at least 200 words. Final is 1000 words. 3 discussion boards. Subject matter isn't difficult.
Took him online as an 8-week course and as expected, there was a lot of work. About two assignments a week and had to rent a lot of films from Amazon. His comments can be slightly passive aggressive, but I'm sure it's just from all the years of teaching and dealing with the same problems. Expect lots of emails from him if you take his class online.
I recommend Professor Foster. He is very clear on what he wants from his students. Very long instructions and emails but these are to help you. It was a lot more work than I was expecting for an Art class but overall the papers were very easy, just time consuming. No tests at all just papers.
Have to be there for every class, get the book! You watch movies and write 500+ words on the movie. Such a cool teacher!
He is a mind-blowing professor because he makes his class lectures easy to understand. Also, students watch movies which is amazing! I would recommend him to anyone who is going to take Art History 104.
He is very passionate about film. He does have a lot of homework but it is all based on films you watch in class. He will answer any questions you have and will discuss films with you. He has a sarcastic type humor but it's not rude humor. Use old tests to study for the final and do the homework. He uses same test questions for the final. Easy A.
This teacher sends out many rude emails that are confusing. You do one tiny thing wrong and instead of taking away points he gives you a zero. He gave me a zero on the final for doing everything right but only because I put my work cited in MLA format ( which is how its supposed to be in college). He isn't helpful and doesn't provide lectures.
Mr. Foster is a good teacher, he uses sarcastic humor a lot which some people might take as rude but it's usually for a good reason. He is very clear on what he expects on all assignments so expect lots of emails if you take him online. Be prepared for lots of papers at least 1 a week based on the movies you watch. Easy A if you follow directions.
His online classes are always super easy. Just follow his instructions and do as he says and you'll pass. When you write in detail, you really need to describe everything that is present which helps reach the minimum word count needed.
I took his online class and his assignments are clear, not complicated, complex, but not hard. If you do your best and not procrastinate it'll be an easy A and I'm not the best at writing. There are no tests at the end and every assignment is turned in online on Turnitin. There are about two discussion board assignments and 2 EC. Good teacher too.
An assignment is due each week with a few questions about the artwork. He asks for a minimum word count and it may seem like a lot at first, but it is really easy. Just do as he says. Describe EVERYTHING in the artwork and you'll be okay.
Follow the grading criteria for each assignment to the "T". Write more than required for an A. Book is not needed as long as you follow the terms he gives you in the weekly chapter list of terms and google them. Take thorough notes while watching the movies to prevent having to rewatch it later. Read the assignment requirements before hand.
This class is an easy A, if you're willing to put in the work. Assignments are due each Monday, where you watch a film and answer some questions. Writing above the word limit helps your grade significantly. For the textbook, you are permitted to buy earlier versions, one cost me around $15 on Amazon. The class is also only 12 weeks long.
He's a good professor and actually cares about his job and your work. If you don't follow the HW handouts, he will passive aggressively roast you in future emails. He won't mention names, of course, but he will make an example out of you if you don't follow all the directions. Had him for 2 online classes and they were both super easy.
He is the coolest professor ever!!! He is so easy to pass and talk to. It is impossible to fail his classes. I am definitely taking him again and recommend him to everyone.
Very easy course! Complete the work to his criteria and get an A. Lots of "essays" to write but very easy. He is very particular about his assignments and makes it known, follow exactly what he says and you will get an A. Extra Credit offered! Perfect score on all of my assignments!
I took his online art history class and it was fairly easy. The class was mainly writing essays and a couple of discussion assignments. The syllabus was very helpful and explained everything you need to know. Pretty straightforward professor and class. I enjoyed it.
Great professor. Hard class. It was online 8 weeks and there were so many papers. So many. Just be prepared to write. And to read his 20 page syllabus. Other than that he was responsive and explained things very thouroughly.
All of his classes are extremely easy as long as you follow the directions he gives in his handouts, however he is very condescending to his online class students (I dont know about his in person classes). Since his class is easy I recommend it but if you can't deal with rude and condescending emails don't take his online classes.
In my opinion his classes are relatively easy. However, when emailing him he tend to be rude and arrogant, he has even completely stopped emailing me when I confronted him on an error. And when he says you need to have a 500 word count you need at least 600 to have full points because you will get 10 points off. I don't recommend taking his class.
this was the first college class i ever took and i took it over the summer. as long as you keep on top of the homework youll do just fine. he grades pretty easily and responds to emails quickly which i appreciated. sometimes whats due when isnt very clear but this class was defiantly an easy A.
Mr foster is an exceptional educator in fine arts. I really enjoyed my 16 weeks course with him. Have a great summer Mr. Foster. You're a great educator. Thanks Veronica Beckwith art-104
Took the 8 week online class. Very easy, lots of assignments. I asked about a mistake i had on an assignment he explained in detail and helped me understand the mistake. Didnt use the textbook much. Lots of online research I recommend taking this course. Only took a couple hrs to complete each assignment.
Prof. Foster is a great teacher. He tells you what he wants and expects from each paper. My only complaint about him is that taking him online, he seems cranky and repeats himself OVER AND OVER again on every assignment. While I do understand his patience for students' excuses may be low, he should give the students a little leeway.
This teacher was Amazing! He was very easy to approach and is there to make sure his students succeed. Although he can be strict, it is only because he expects the best from his students. His lectures are basically the test and homework might be a little heavy but it is very easy because it requires no research at all. Take him, he is the best.
I dont know how he is on a on campus class but dont take his online class. He asked for 500 hundred words for 50 points but yet if you dont write more then 500 words he takes 10 points off! Like why ask for 500 words if your going to take points away! Also he will give you a zero for almost anything I mean anything! Worst online class dont take
Online 104. He sends ridiculously long emails and can sometimes come off as rude. The class is easy, however, he wants everything done *very* specifically, and if not, hell take off points for every tiny thing. The class is easy as long as you can write papers & follow his every direction. I got an A, but I wouldnt take the course again, though.
Where do I even begin? I guess the best way to put it is that this guy's information on his online course is unorganized and all over the place. His writing is incredibly repetitive, and entire paragraphs in his writing seemed copied and pasted several times on different forms you have to read. He COULD just put it online in one spot, but wont.
Professor Foster is a very interesting guy. His personality isn't for everyone, but he's a good teacher. The movies he shows are very interesting! The class is super easy and you need to show up to watch the movie in order to do the homework. The homework is 500 word essays (more like a Q&A), but make sure you write at least 800 to get full points.
Extremely tough teacher. Assignments need to be done EXACTLY as he says or you get a zero. No deviating whatsoever. You can only write essays on certain artwork that he picks, using only approved words that he picks and using a certain number of words 250-375 words. Anything else and you get a zero.
Horrible teacher. His information online is so unorganized yet he demands almost perfection from you. Says reports require a minimum word amount but will mark you down if youre to close to the minimum even if youre over the minimum. If Blackboard has technical issues youll still get marked down for the assignments that get affected by it.
This is not the teacher you want to take for art. He somehow takes a nice enjoyable subject and makes it so stressful and un-enjoyable. I love art so much, but in his class I hated every minute of it. He says reports require at least 200 words, but you'll need to write near 350 to get full credit otherwise you'll get partial credit on it.
Fall online. Watch/write about 2 ads, 8 films. Write more than word requirement to get an A on hw. Discussion board about villain in movie. Need book for quizzes, found online for free. 1 chance for xtra credit. Not hard just tedious having to watch a movie every week and pay attention to all the details. Questions for write up can be hard.
Foster is an amazing teacher and will work around your schedule if you need it. His quizzes are short and easy. All you need to do to pass is take notes, study, and answer questions about the movies you watch. Such an easy A and you get to enjoy interesting movies that you most likely have not seen.
Prof Foster is truly an outstanding professor. For this class, he assigns certain movies for you to watch, in which you are instructed to answer questions (synopsis/questionnaire). Four Quizzes. 1 Final that includes all quizzes combined. Easy/enjoyable class. He grades based on effort. Show up, be respectful, and do your work. Pass with an easy A.
My favorite class I've ever taken and it was an online class. The most important thing to him is word count. I actually enjoyed reading the textbook. It's not hard to meet the word count when describing a film trust me.
One of the easiest classes ive ever taken at college. might take him again for summer. overall, very easy class and very laid back teacher.
very cool class. would take again
If you like movies, you have to study the ones that the great film makers today studied. Very informative on how to make movies. Frank is a good teacher, you'll enjoy him. He's not boring at all if movies are your hobby or passion.
Prof Foster is unclear in his directions even though he sends out a ridiculous amount of them. He does not show an leniency in his grading. He insults students by telling them to "manage time better" despite not knowing anything about what a student goes through. Will NEVER take his class again, very rude and overwhelming.
On some assignments, Foster states the minimum word count is 250 words, and then in a class-wide email will shame a student anonymously for having a 'low' word count of 296. Near every message he sends out feels condescending, and will rag on you for having 'unnecessary details' when his own examples prattle on to increase word count.
I enjoyed his class. I took his online class very clear on what he wants; however alway write over the number of word he wants. Easy class I would take it again.
Hes a nice teacher and honestly doesnt give a lot of work but I did online. The work is easy, you just answer 5 questions from a piece of art you have and you get graded off of that with the occasional quizzes. His class is really easy, I forget I have it.
The class is straightforward. The professor states his expectations and he is clear about what he wants. You watch about 7 movies and answer 5 questions in essay form. If the assignment asks for 100 words, write 200 words to get full credit. Word count is everything! The quizzes are super easy. I never read the book, I just use the book's index.
I took his online class and i loved it! He is very clear on what he wants and emails weekly reminders. He assigned a movie and you answer questions, the a quiz here and there and discussion board assignments. HE IS HUGE ON PLAGIARISM. Quizzes are basically open book. The final has questions from quizzes. Great Professor!
I have taken professor Foster for Art 101, 102, and 104 online. He is upfront about his expectations and wants you to be successful. I highly recommend writing at least double what he asks (super easy to do). His classes are great for those with busy schedules. You can get by without the book, but get ready to research. Thanks professor Foster!
one of the best classes I have ever taken. If you love watching movies I highly suggest this class. Very manageable work load. Take advantage of the EC he offers. Do your own work, he checks for plagiarism. 5 question quizzes every other week for the chapters he assigns. Follow his directions & always exceed the word count!
He is truly a great teacher, I wasn't going to take him, but I'm glad I did. At the end of the day it's his class his rules. You write the minimum you get a minimum grade. Hes super easy going, he explains everything he wants. Took his online and didn't need use the book. He knows every one talks bad about him, it's sad hes so easy and a real gem!!
Took him for winter 2020, got a 95%. This class consists of watching multiple movies & writing reports on them, as well as reading through the textbook in order to pass quizzes. Movies are kind of boring- either super old or foreign, & we did not watch a modern day movie until the end of class. DOUBLE YOUR WORD COUNT on everything. More words A!!
It is an easy class online. Always write at least 100 words minimum over the word count. The book was useful for quizzes. He was very approachable with assignment questions, and he is a reasonably quick and fair grader. No midterm or final. He does some over explanations but at least he cares.
emails back fast. you don't have to use MLA on papers. he is pretty specific on what he wants done. I read a question too fast and wrote on the wrong subject, i reread the question noticed my mistake. I emailed him and admitted my fault and he gave me credit for it . don't do your work last min take your time . not difficult at all
Great teacher! No stress. There are a total of 6 reports. Write over 250 words for each report and youll be fine. There are 4 quizzes and 1 cumulative final exam. DONT plagiarize.. he will find it!
Very caring professor, just read instructions carefully and you will pass with an A.
He gives you a chance for extra credit & gives clear instructions on what he is looking for. Ive taken him twice & would take him again. The textbook helped, but you could get away w/not using it. He gives min. credit if you do the min. amount of work. Hes available outside of class & responds to questions & emails. Great professor over all!
Foster is clear he wants you to pass. You have 4 movies to watch and do a synopsis on. You have 2 movies to watch and do a questionnaire on. Always go over the required word count to get full points. Offers extra credit. He always sends an email when something is due. Tests are super easy if you read the powerpoint lectures.
I love this professor, he is funny and he really cares for the students. He wants everyone to pass. Always reminds you when things are due, and the assignments are very straightforward. I really appreciate the empathy he has shown. The class is easy as long as you make a genuine effort. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this class & Professor. People complaining about him just want an easy A with no effort. Foster is really a great teacher and is passionate about art. Read some chapters & watched 1 film a week with a critique paper due afterwards. Exceed word count by 50-100 words-bottom line-be detailed. Easy A, if you put in the effort.
Loved taking this class. Very clear with assignments and will even remind you the day it is due. Any edition of the textbook works, and even then its not necessary to pass. A very kind professor, wants to see you pass. I would take another class of his in a heartbeat.
Love love love Mr. Foster he was a caring professor and is so very understanding. would take his class again just for fun. taught me so much and brought a wonderful love for Charlie Chaplin I never knew I had!
Foster is very under rated! I've been people rate him badly and was skeptical of taking his class because of the reviews. But after taking it it was nothing! Ppl need to remember this is college and work is expected to be done. He says a 250 min, if you just do about 600 words you'll get an A. Do minimum work get a minimum grade! I loved him.
Frank Foster is easily one of the nicest teachers at VVC. He is way more patient than any teacher I've ever had. He repeats himself a thousand times because people don't read or listen. His workload is heavy, but we are in college. Be prepared to read and write tons of papers. Despite the heavy workload, he's a fantastic teacher.
Hes super easy. Just do the assignments and you'll pass. The textbook is on lib gen but you can get the answers on wikipedia. He gives you REALLY strict rules on how to write the papers. If you don't follow the instructions he won't give you full credit so be wary. Stupid easy class.
Professor Foster is one of the best teachers I have, caring and encouraging students to learn and do their best to receive a higher score. I enjoyed his class, with all the movies we watched and the assignments we had, which improved my writing skill and better-understood films' art. Also, Professor Foster very kind and respect his students.
Professor Foster is one of the best teachers I have. He is caring and encouraging students to learn and do their best works. I enjoyed his class, with all the movies we watched and the assignments we had, which improved my writing skill and better-understood films' art. Also, Professor Foster very kind and respect his students.
HE IS AWESOME. He is very funny, even through an entire online class. He practically spells everything out for you as long as you read the power points and assignment handouts. I bought the textbook but hardly even used it because he literally provides you with all the information you will need to pass his class. The work isnt hard AT ALL.
Great professor. He makes it very clear on what needs to be done. Lots of extra credit. Easy assignments as long as you meet his word count. Does NOT take late work.
Great professor just do what he says an you'll get an A I didn't use the book cuz of the PowerPoint's but yeah easy class and over all great professor.
Professor Foster is one of a kind. He loves his students and wants the best for us. He makes sure that we are reminded of assignments due just incase we have lost track of the days and always wants us to pass with an A. He is so funny and makes silly jokes to get us into his announcements. Truly a great teacher and makes being a student worth it.
Took the hybrid course. Lectures were in class on the material for the quizzes. Every 2 weeks we had to watch a movie and answer a few questions. Foster is very nice and understanding. Just do the work and you will pass.
Professor Foster is the nicest man ever. I took him during covid and he was a gem. I enjoyed the assignments he would give us. The movies are actually good and some are classics that everyone should watch at least once. He was also very inspirational. He would leave your heart so warm with his words I once started crying. PLEASE TAKE HIM!
He's a really nice and funny professor that's specific with his instructions for each assignment. Pay close attention making sure you follow ALL the requirements even with spelling or you'll lose points. Miss a assignment in his class and it's a zero. He wants his students passing the class so he sends out reminders on the day something's due.
Easiest a i ever got at vvc. not taking this class is saying no to free credit. This guy has easy assignments but dont cheat on them because he gets quite mad. you dont need to really use the textbook either. Other than that hes quite a good professor so please take him
LOVE this class so far. I say I got an A already because it's so easy and engaging, I'm very confident in my grade. As long as you pay attention to the movies and take notes, the assignments are a piece of cake. He really made me want to look into the film industry. Funny and inspirational. 10/10 experience so far!
Professor Foster's online class was super easy, I really enjoyed the movies that we had to write on. He replies really quick with his emails. He is very understanding, so don't hesitate to ask him any questions. Do the work and you will pass, that easy. His quiz are only 5 questions, his final exam is 20 questions, read the book, you will pass.
Professor Foster cares about his students, I took him for a 6wk course. He's very organized, sends reminder emails for all assignments, art 104 consisted of 7 films & their synopsis, discussions, midterm and final. Clear grading rubrics, free textbook online. Easy to get in contact with, and offers extra credit. No late work. 10/10 recommendations.
Professor Frank's teaching style is really nice. His grading feedback is really helpful as well as how clear and direct he is in grading. He does use an online textbook but he didn't really ask us to use it since he posts slides or presentations from the book itself. He doesn't check attendance but you do have to submit work on time.
If you've ever had to ask for feedback from this professor, you'll learn that he can be very rude. He doesn't like to explain things beyond his grading criteria or syllabus, even if you are genuinely confused. Says things like, "Everyone else figured it out, why can't you?" Otherwise, pretty easy class. I'd take him again, but only if I had to.
101&102: If you appreciate a professor who provides clear directives on what is expected, reminders of due dates, & gives excellent feedback to praise & challenge you, Frank Foster is one of the best. I learned a lot about the elements of art, famous works, & how to focus on an identified topic. Book provided for 101; 102 on Scribd w/free trial.
Every day you miss he drops down your grade. He was present for 90% of the days. Most days consist of long lectures. Assignments weren't too harsh and graded fairly. Would take again.
Would recommend. He is a very kind man, and truly cares for his students. He always talks about the weather with me when I come into class early and answers my questions clearly. His choice in movies is very good and I enjoyed watching all of them! Don't hesitate to take his class.
Professor Foster was a great teacher and his class was very smooth. He is very understanding and responds quickly.
Professor Frank is one of the good professors I had. He was really good in giving feedback on what we got wrong as well as his compliments when we get a good score is really nice to hear! He gives very clear instructions with what he wants us to do, and his class is really easy! Definitely recommend him to be taken for Film as an Art form.
Foster was by far the easiest class I have ever taken. As long as you write notes during lectures and film there is no way to not pass. I got 100 on the final, which was multiple choice. He states you should get the textbook, but I did not use it a single time. He gives good feedback and grades quickly. Def would take again!
Super easy class, and the professor is great. He's clear about what he wants, and if you do that, you'll pass with ease. The assignments aren't difficult, his instructions are always easy, and if you do the reading; which is minimal- you'll pass every test with no problem. He has a "been there, done that" attitude, but he is genuinely funny. 10/10.
Amazing class and awesome professor! Just do the work and you should be good, it isn't hard to get a good grade. Excited to take another class with him. Grading is clear and I think there was like one "test" but it was not difficult at all.
Professor Foster is the kindest, and funniest professor here. I have taken two of his classes and loved both of them. He isn't as interactive online, which makes sense. His assignments are not complicated and are not overwhelming, even though it was an accelerated course. He chooses great art to learn about and provides great feedback.Thank you sir!
Professor Foster is a very blunt person, but is also funny! I didn't expect to enjoy the films at the beginning of the semester, but I found them all entertaining, and I most likely would've never watched them had I not taken this class. All assignments are extremely straightforward and fairly simple. Quizzes and the final are also easy!
Professor Foster is a great teacher. If you take his online class, avoid plagiarism since he checks it in Turnitin. I liked the work of art that he chose since it was exciting, and follow his instructions to the t since he is strict on that. Overall, this online class was very easy. He also gives opportunities for extra credit!
I took this class to fill a requirement and it was the only option left. I was not looking forward to the class. Come to find out it is my favorite class at the moment. The movies have been great and he is very interactive.
Foster is an amazing professor and I would 100% take his class again. The instructions are crystal clear so you know exactly what to do, just write a bit more than required. The quizzes were five questions each and the final was easy. If you miss points he tells you why. I never touched the textbook once and the research was very easy.
Professor Foster does require a textbook, but it isn't really needed. Assignments were fairly easy as long as you paid attention to his lectures. Overall a mix of easy and challenging. Pop quizzes are slightly common but again if you pay attention in class and take notes you should be fine.
Mr. Foster gives out very specific instructions that make following along so easy to understand and enjoy! Film as an Art Form has been a great class because he wants you to pass and he is easy to message as well. The online class format looks like this: watch a movie, write a short paper, a few 5-question quizzes, and discussion boards. Recommend!
Mr.Foster Is great. But he is very picky, follow his very specific instructions you will be fine they are easy to follow. If you try to dive further than what you were given he won't like that and doc you points for it. Other than that he is very easy and this was an easy class to take in the winter.
A great teacher all around, the films he picked out were very interesting and made coming to class easy. His assignments aren't hard and as long as you turn them in on time and follow his directions you'll be fine.
This professor was great. The class was easy and the films he picked were interesting. The way he grades is very clear and the assignments are very easy. He does do pop quizzes they are very easy though just pay attention to the films you watch in class.
He is very specific in how he wants assignments done. Just do what he asks and you'll get full credit. Be specific and detailed in your writing assignments. Also it's better to go above the word count to get full credit on your work.
Mr Foster assigned a lot of textbook reading, along with many discussion boards and analysis assignments, so be prepared to read and write a lot. He was responsive and understanding in his emails. His criteria for assignments is pretty strict, so be sure to read them carefully. His class took a lot of time and effort, but I learned lots.
Responds to emails very fast, lots of writing but the papers are typically the same format every week. PAY ATTENTION TO DUE DATES lots of things are due on the same day
Prof. Foster is one of the best professors I've ever had. I ALWAYS looked forward to class--even lectures! He is concise, respectful, and extremely clear when it comes to the grading criteria, due dates, and he gives reminders. I love the movies he showed and have a deeper respect for film now. I wish I could take his class again. Highly recommend!
The class is a breeze, as long as you pay attention and take notes on the movies and can write decently with some tests and a final in-person test. His knowledge beyond the lecture presentations (made my the textbook publisher) are limited and he will say "let me get back to you on that" and never gets back to you. His office hours were also short.
As long as you go to class and you take notes and pay attention you will pass, he wants you to pass and is clear on how to do so. he give surprise quizzes, open notes quiz, close notes final. He is passionate about his class he is funny at times. he doesn't put up with any disrespect or foolery.
Profesor Foster was a great teacher with very specific grading criteria. He explains what he wants very thoroughly and if you don't follow it, he will deduct points. His grading criteria is not hard at all, it is just very specific. He is also good and letting you know what you did wrong so you know what to improve.
Prof. Foster makes this class a breeze. As long as you attend, take notes, and follow his clear instructions, you'll do great. Unstuck study was a huge help with study prep too.
Professor Foster is one of the best professors I have ever had. I love that his communication is great, his grading is awesome, and he makes sure to give feedback. He is very respectable and I would take his class again, just be sure you read and pay attention.
Professor Frank Foster, is wonderful. Very understandable and caring. His class is amazing and very simple. It's all about focusing, taking notes, and managing your time!! He also gives great feedback. :)
very respectful, had a discussion about my identity and he respected it very well. loved watching movies in his class and assignments weren't hard.
I took ART 104 and we watched movies and had to take notes but it was easy and at the end of the movie I would answer a few questions that were easy to answer. We watched black and white films and also foreign films. Professor Foster was an amazing teacher and I hope to have him again for another art class.
He is a great teacher. Very clearly cares about his class and what he teaches. The class is easy you just watch some movies and take some notes. He has a very enjoyable presence and actually am taking him again for art 102! Very excited and had a great semester!
Professor Foster really enjoys what he does. Details every assignment and lecture well so it's easy to understand. The assignments given are relatively easy as long as you pay attention to the movies shown. He has an awesome sense of humor and even shows some of his work at the end of the year. An enjoyable class!
Professor Foster is a fantastic professor! I took his class out of personal interest, & I'm happy I did He has a profound passion for the subject, & it makes it so engaging Just show up, participate [so he doesn't feel unheard] & pay attention I think, if anything, it's a testament to how well students can sit & listen w/o going on their phones
This professor was easy if you follow all of his instructions! The only thing you have to do is watch movies and write about them. Take this professor!
It's an easy class, not much to say besides that.
This Professor was amazing, I had no idea that art had so much history and meaning, so much so, that I changed my minor to photography.. I totally recommend this class and professor.
Took his class for an 8 week semester, he makes all assignments very clear about the requirements. Very manageable to take his class, just do your assignments yourself, turn all your work in, take your tests, and just put in a little effort and you will do just fine. Really enjoyed taking his class, and watching the movies we watched.
Professor Foster truly cares about his students. When I took his class, I had little to no experience with art or photography, but he created a comfortable and encouraging learning environment that inspired me to improve. I highly recommend his class,he taught me so much about art that I'm now taking photography!
Good professor, but get ready to write! Quizzes were super easy, and the movies were fun to watch. I don't recommend procrastinating on the work though because if you wait until the last day, you'll be working for hours on one assignment (movie + full detailed summary + questions). Very easy class, the grading was good, and he left good feedback.
Professor Foster was a good teacher. He is very clear on his assignment instructions, and if you fail to follow the instructions, he will deduct points. He gives feedbacks for any mistakes. Lots of writing and pay attention to due dates! Also, avoid plagiarism! Test and final were easy, all multiple choice, and overall a pretty easy class.
Professor Foster is honestly the best I've ever had. He's really funny and you can tell he loves what he does. He gives surprise quizzes but they're really easy if you just watch the movies and take notes. All of his tests are open note as well.
