Professor Gorgie is definitely worth taking for poly sci! Can't say this enough! he is articulate with broad topic knowledge, treats his students with respects, expects the same, feels like a COLLEGE level course. he makes it INTERESTING! I recommend students have the ability to "connect the dots", if you want an A, but its rewarding in any case

I adore Prof. Gorgie! He is very knowledgable and obviously wants his students to succeed. He makes otherwise dry material pretty interesting. I could listen to him talk all day. Doesn't hurt that he is suuuuuuuper cute. Definitely take his class!!!

Professor Gorgie is by far the best proffessor at SMC. He is extremely professional while managing to make his classes fun and engaging. He sucessfully presents the subject as a big picture, demonstrating how events through out time are connected. And just as a side note, he is by far the best looking and best dressed professor on campus.

Very nice and makes one of the most boring subjects interesting! Tells questions straight from the midterm and final before the exams. Gives extra credit..but not kick back extra credit. One of the best teachers at SMC. I took his 8 week course so you HAD to go to class every day. It's simple, either you read the book or take good lecture notes and you'll get an A. VERY fair grader. FUnny as hell, keeps it interesting, and he tells it how it is. You MUST participate it is 20% of your grade! HIGHLY recommended!

This was the most interesting class I've taken at SMC-great professor, fascinating material, interesting discussions. He basically tells you exactly what to study for the test and gives extra credit, but don't be fooled; you will still have to study. I highly recommend this class.

To be honest, everything everyone says is correct. Because of Gorgie, I became a Poli Sci major and he is by far the best teacher I have EVER HAD, even as this is my third quarter at UCLA. Gorgie inspires his students to think, I took his Wtr World Politics class and he has you read books and watch films but they help to give dynamic to course.

Great teacher, everyone told me to take him and I was very impressed with his teaching. He is so knowledgeable about all different subject areas and can cite examples from movies so we can better grasp the concept. PoliSci major below should've learned the answers to those "trick" questions (if nothing else)! Prof. Gorgie is the reason i'm majoring in PoliSci. Anyone who leaves negative feedback about Gorgie is simply jealous of his brilliance. Test questions are worded in such a way that one has to truly know the answer to get them right - if that constitutes a "trick"... It's kind of him to be *willing* to take time to read the extra credit paper he offers. Most profs are too lazy to bother w/ex cred.

Take him! Don't think- just do it! He is clear and concise during lecture, and doesn't try to trick you on exams. Wish there were more professors like him. Prof. Gorgie does not disappoint! He starts out the class with an intimidation tactic meant to weed out the weakest students, but lightens up after the first week (by which point many have dropped.) He has a comprehensive approach to philosophy, teaching both how various philosophers affect history and how it affected them. Absolutely brilliant.

The 1st day is intimidating (he just wants to weed out the slackers.) Gorgie, pronounced GOR-gee (two hard G's!) is funny, emphasizes critical thinking, and really drills the material in your head. Not h.s.-style rote memorization. Not the typical liberal professor. Take good notes, do well on the quizzes, write a 10-20 pg. essay, and ur good to go.

One of the best teachers I've had at SMC. This is not an "Easy A" class. No slackers. However, an A is possible. The key is to keep up with the readings, review notes for pop quizzes, and show him that you are making an effort. Also, start on the essay ( 10-20 pgs.) as soon as he gives out the topic.

I took 3 classes with Gorgie. He is the best professor I ever had. Even at UCLA I haven't seen anything like him. He gives pop quizzes at least every other week on the reading and lectures. If you do poorly (and you will) you have to read a book and do a 7-10 page paper. The grade on the paper will replace the quiz grade. Final(short answer, essay.

i took this class last summer. his lectures are very interesting, you won't be bored, but this class does give you a lot of work. requires a lot of reading, has extra credit but also pop quizes. we were also required to write a 10+ page paper, so be prepared for that. Final was fairly easy. Be sure to read everything, because he calls on people.

Best Teacher Ever! It is a really difficult class, but it prepares you for anything you may encounter at USC / UCLA.

You have to work to do well in this class but he makes the material interesting and really seems to care about what he is teaching. Read everything he tells you to read when he tells you to read it.

I had no interest in this before, but prof gorge really broke down the subject to reality. he's very engaging with his students, has lively lectures, and truly cares about how his students learn. he teaches his class with the aid of literature, philosophy, history, art, pop culture in clever ways. very good prep for transferring to university!

If you need to take POS 51 he is the lesser of all evils. It is a very difficult and stressful class; however, it truly does prepare you for anything you may encounter at your transfer university. Listen closely... write down everything he says... and always do the reading... always.

It's been a few months since I transferred out of SMC and the impact that Gorgie's class has had on me is lasting. I purposely dropped an easier class to take it with him because I wanted a challenge, and it has been nothing but rewarding. Everything I learned in his class is applicable. The course is organized and expectations are clear. As long as you do your reading and post insightful weekly threads and thread responses you'll be fine. Quizes are weekly and there is a midterm and final.

ORGANIZED WELL. I TOOK IT ONLINE AND AS LONG AS YOU DID THE READINGS AND DID THE DISCUSSION POST YOU WILL PASS. CHAPTER QUIZZES , MIDTERM, AND FINAL.

Taking for summer. There are quizzes and discussion questions to answer weekly. Quizzes and tests multiple choice. Discussion Q's do require some thinking and really digging into the book or outside sources for good responses. Pretty straightforward and not too difficult.

Professor Gorgie actually really cares about the subject and hes a super interesting, passionate, fun lecturer. Lazy or rude students will NOT enjoy the class. ALWAYS attend participate and take notes and you will be fine. Hard to concentrate sometimes because he really is the hottest teacher at SMC

Pretty straight forward class. I took him online for the summer. Lectures and discussions are very clear. Weekly quizzes were given. However, you need the book to back up your discussions. Everything was open book.

I enjoyed this online course, posting discussions was simple assignments, just read the chapters for weekly quizzes. I love how well organized he has this class set up. Take him if you're interested in learning about politics.

Prof Gorgie is great. Took his online 8 week poli sci class and i learned a ton. There are online quizzes mltiple times a week and discussions that you must participate in. As long as you care and do the work you will do well!

I really enjoyed this 8 week online class. There's weekly readings & quizzes but it's super easy if you do the reading. There are like 2 or 3 essays but it's not that difficult if you read thoroughly & pay attention to Professor Gorgie's grading criteria. The discussions & essays were very interesting

Easy work but not an easy A. Your grade is based mostly on weekly quizzes which are difficult if you don't read in depth. There are a few discussions which are simple and the final is an essay. Not bad for an 8 week class.

For my 6 week class, it was heavily graded on mini essays due at the end of each week and then a final essay. If you follow her prompts and write relatively well, you will be fine! The homework is all through an online portal and as long as you are on top of it you can get an A. Just stay on top of it. Would definitely recommend!

Took this online class Summer2020. Gorgie is SUCH a chill professor. I didn't submit the first short essay assignment and emailed him for a second chance, and still got an A on it. If he didn't let me, I wouldn't have an A in the class. He's great to talk to thru email as well. Be sure to keep up with those pesky due dates for quizzes and homework!

Clear and fair. You have to stay on top of it but he's very helpful. The Globalyceum platform works well and is easy if you actually bother to read the instructions. It's asynchronous things are def NOT "dyscombobulated" He responds to emails promptly. Read the syllabus and do the work follow the instructions and you will get a good grade. Not Zoom

One of my favorite classes I've taken at SMC in terms of the content. I had a medical emergency that caused me to miss a quiz, but Professor Gorgie was kind enough to let me retake it. Stay on top of the workload and you'll do great. Pay attention to the deadlines, they're at 8:00pm rather than the typical 11:59pm.

The textbook has a lot of content, but not many knowledge points. It is easy to complete the paper and gives a high score.

The textbook on Globalyceum isn't up to date w new info being, makes me sad after reading the textbook. Its a 8 wk course for me and its was just quizzes and some papers that's really fast paced, its very much asynchronous as there's not much communication w the teacher just book heavy, that you have to pay in order to do the hwk.
