Hes horrible
some people need to learn that teaching is not about making your students feel uncomfortable. Although he delivers his lessons very well, he's not so kind to his students feelings.
I cannot understand what the other raters are talking about. Grasso was so encouraging and his lectures were clear. He broke evrything down to the simplest elements and built from there. A great professor.
I agree with the poster below me. He is very clear in his lectures and his classes were very interesting. He's one of my favorite teachers.
He is great! Very helpful and clear, great graphics. Makes something that should be boring interesting. I will actually use this stuff in real life.
The problem is not the man. He's actually a cool guy who knows his stuff. The fact is that most Psych majors don't know their math and this math is a killer. :) Although he's aight, there are better bets for this nightmare. Weinberger is recommended.
This class is not easy expect to go the extra mile. he knows his stuff and will go out of his way to help you. break it down to simplicity. be ready to work. you will come out Knowing alot. All finals-open book other exams you are allowed a 3X5 index card
Professor Grasso represents the very hight of eliticism. He likes to smile in your face as he assults you. His hobbies include nonsensical research and discouraging students.
he's okay!! he's tough, but fair. the only thing I don't like about him is that he insults his students while smiling in their faces. I recommend Noam Fischman, Weinberger, Baker, Litman, and Tenenbaum!!
I feel bad for those who take him.Good luck , if you take him. You will need it and more.
Stats is a hard course. Grasso is a hard professor. You dont have to take those two together,if you do you will have a bad time. If you want a good professor take pr (gazes) the best and understanble professor in teaching stats. (SPIDER)
His constant optimism and upbeat-ness is truly annoying. He teaches a lot, gives tough exams and doesn't even cut a curve. You can't really talk to him either cuz he's always running around doing other stuff. Bottomline: he gets on your nerves.
I recomend to my fellow peers, dont take him, he is a nice guy , but hes very hard he talks to fast, plus the course he teaches is hard. Why do you want to take this guy when you can take a beter professor. If you want a great professor gazes is the best
very hard professor, but he teaches really well and after his class you really know your stats, in my experimental class now those that took gazes are having a hard time cause they know nothing, Grasso teaches so you know it for life, so if going to grad school or experimental take him, prepare to wo
He's a great guy. He actulally takes the time to know your name. He really wants you to do well in his class. He's a great teacher but the material is hard. And you have to keep up with the h.w. If not, you will fall way behind.
Very difficult class, but he does a good job teaching it. He is extremely up-beat and crazy about stats. YOU MUST KEEP UP WITH THE HOMEWORK OR YOU WILL FAIL! He is always willing to help you understand the subject. I never found him mean or humiliating. A really nice guy that just loves stats.
He is the best professor I have ever had. Very clear and helpful. Knows his material and is willing to explain it and help students. You do have to read the book and understand the material to get a good grade. This is the best class I have ever taken. Enjoy!
I took this class last sem. i have to say it may have been a hard class but you will remember statistics for life his class really helped in exprmntl i could tell the diff. between those that took him and this that took some1 else, its hard but its worth it (especialy if you plan to go to grad skool
Prof. Grasso is an unbelievable man. He is very clear and very dedicated. He is very responsive to students who need help so don't be afraid to ask. He is very fair and has a good deal of faith in his students, so expect to do a decent amount of work. I honestly recommend taking his classes.
DONT take him. His tests are hard and gives lots of hw. If you do take him drop all other classes and study your ass of because its going to be a heck of a semester. GOOD LUCK! ps. dont cry
This is practically the best professor I have had so far. His course is challenging so if you want to relax and sail through Stats go else where. Otherwise, if you like to learn and aren't afraid of hard work - Grasso is the best choice.

A truly great professor who really wants you to learn and understand the material. The lectures are tricky at times, but he's always there to help. The workload is tough, but the tests are very fair. DO NOT MISS ANY CLASSES! He goes very fast, and you WILL fall behind. Reading the book is a must.
Very difficult, but if you put in the work you will get an A. He is one of the best professors I've taken, and he is especially good and bringing the students in to the discussion. He is one of the sweetest, most sincere people you will ever meet. If you want to learn, take him, if you want an easy A, don't.
Get ready to THINK when it comes to the homeworks and lectures
Get ready for a hard class but in my opinion its not the teachers fault it is just the class. He was a really nice guy in my opinion. The Hw's took alot of thinking and the tests were fair. The problem with most people is that they made the class harder than it really was by psyching themselves out.
The amount of homework is tremendous and it is certainly a full time job. The lectures are not clear. In desperation I audited lectures by other professors and could follow. It is a difficult subject made more difficult by this Professor. Unless you have a real aptitude for this subject better pick someone else
nice guy, very hard class. dont recommend it
I took Prof. Grasso as an undergrad at Brooklyn College and if you plan to go to grad school he is the man to take! Its not an easy class but stats will stay with you for years to come.
A ton of HW - no study material - hard class and he just makes it more difficult - stay away at all costs - switch if you have too or else you will want to kill yourself every morning that you have his class.
Out of all teachers available for psy 40.1, Grasso is the most difficult. Hmwks are time consuming, he is never available out of class, and goes too fast. He grades harshly. Cheat sheets are allowed, and e.c is given, so if that helps you, good luck.
The BEST!!!! He is amazing and I have learned a ton from him. Take his class and do the homeworks. It will pay off in the long run. Good luck.
When you get to Experimental you will be grateful for being well prepared!
listen to me carefully.. do not take his class...
I LOVE HIM! Whoever says he's horrible is lazy and hates learning or doing any kind of real college work. I've done THE MOST work for THIS class in my undergraduate career, but Grasso is jolly and funny, a genius (read his page on the BC site), determined to help us learn Statistics and is preparing us WELL for PSY 57 and our future in Psychology!
okay .. yes he is hard.. but he is available to talk to you anytime.. he goes out of his way to make sure you know the material.. cheat notes on tests are allowed, make ups allowed.. and his TA are awesome.. janina scarlet rocks... do the hws and u will be fine.. i hated him at first but he is really good
He is very helpful and funny. It is unfortunate that the course is hard.
he's an amazing professor. knows the material extremely well. he's intelligent, friendly, and very helpful. the COURSE is hard, not grasso. he's very clear and explains the material well. i wish he tought more classes, because i really think he's one of the best professors at brooklyn college.
Absolutely love Grasso! He's funny, intelligent, and very helpful. As difficult as this course may be, he does an awesome job at making it a little less confusing for us. If you do his homeworks and pay attention in class, you'll get a good grade.
I thought he was a great professor. the key to stats is the concepts. you have to see the big picture. then you can see why everything else works. he is able to communicate that. he builds up from the small stuff. be ready to work from the first day. he mves quick so don't miss class, and DO THE HW. cheat card for 1st 3 exams, final was open book
this is my 2nd time taking this class, and i know if i had prof grasso the first time i wouldnt have had to take it over. Hes a very nice guy, and really knows the material well and explains it in a very good way. His tests are exactly like the hws, and his TA's are great, MUCH BETTER THAN KOZBELTS!
3 years of worrying about psych stats were for nothing because of this guy. He went slow and careful, so as not to lose anybody. His tests are fair, and he looks for ways to give extra points. There's a lot of work involved, but if you try, he will not dissapoint you.
really nice guy but very hard class study butt off
I dont know why everyone told me to stay away from him. Hes a nice guy, organized, pretty clear and understanding. The class is hard, but so are all the stats classes. Be prepared to work hard, but this professor will def. help you through it
I Took him for both Stats and Comparative psychology. Best Professor ever. Smart, knows his stuff. Very caring/helpful. Met a few people who failed his class and I can't understand how. You must be extremely lazy and stupid to fail any class he teaches. I'm about to take a third class with him and maybe independent research/ fieldwork with him
I would not recommend this professor for students taking stats. His questions are very long and he is very confusing.
i loved him he was so nice and was randomly funny.. i mean you cant expect that much from him its a horrible subject but it you have to take it id def recommend him. plus if you do his homeworks the tests are really easy.
Prof Grasso is the most helpful and fair profs I had ever had! Grasso would help u anytime u asked. He is the def. the best Stats Prof. in Psych. The homeworks u complain about help u on the tests. Some ppl don't want to work hard and learn something. I heard it shows in experimental. His students do way better then students that had other profs!
VERY helpful professor. He's a really good guy. He will give up all his time after class to help you out. But the class is definetely hard. (More so than other professors) You will learn a lot, but if you're not ready to dedicate you time to stats, then dont bother. Otherwise, hes the best professor. (do the labs-you WILL need them)
Grasso's very pleasant & always willing to help out and reply to mass emails. However, I found the text easier to understand than his lectures as he seemed to go into too much detail, making things more complicated, so a piece of advice: just make sure you have a good TA and do the homeworks, since they are very useful when those exams come around.
I had Dr. Grasso for both Comparative and Statistics and managed to get an A & A- in both classes. He is my favorite Professor in BC and I would recommend him to everyone. The material is hard to grasp but he wont give up on you. 2 Exams, 14 Labs...make sure you have a good T.A!!!!
he was my favorite professor id take him for any class he teaches! so helpful reviews material everyday knows everyone name. attendance is not mandatory but if you go to class and he knows you he will give you a good grade!
Prof Grasso is very nice, and if you ever need any help he is usually always available mostly by email. But you can catch him in his office to. Although he is very nice be prepared to work your butt off. I had him for comparative psychology you have a project to do throughout the term, a couple of presentations and a final paper. He gave a midterm
Prof Grasso is very nice, and if you ever need any help he is usually always available mostly by email. But you can catch him in his office to. Although he is very nice be prepared to work your butt off. You must read the Text his lectures are complicated. The midterm was hard but the final wasnt too bad. If you can avoid taking this class i would
He is always willing to help... but at the same time gives way to much work. I would not take a class from him again, nor would I recommend anyone who is taking an intense course to take his class
Grasso is a man who will make you think and interpret information on your own to draw conclusions. his class is not very hard, if you are willing to do the reading before class and hand in labs on time, his class is not hard at all. he is very knowledgeable and helpful and he genuinely cares for teaching and making sure his students understand.
Horrible. Grasso gets into way too much detail and doesnt explain the material. This subject is very hard to learn on your own but be prepared to do it. All the other professors give own book or take him exams. HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO DOES NOT!! He is a nice guy but WORST in clarity. HORRIBLE..Killed my GPA
The class requires a lot of work but he is extremely helpful and explains the material really well.
I had Grasso for Stats a few years ago. It was hard -- I have never worked that hard for a B. But he was helpful, friendly, always willing to talk -- even in the hallway if I saw him. Now in my job I am way ahead of the curve because I STILL KNOW THIS STUFF! Take Grasso if you really want to learn. He is hard, but very fair.
Very Nice. Too nice at times. Has an ability to teach in elementary school. Repeats stuff all over again and skips important material too quick to understand from lecture. Keep your textbook with you at all times.
Nice guy, always has a smile on his face and will honestly help you. But rushes through material like the world is going to end. Waste time on specific parts while completely overlooking other things. Has long papers, 8-12 pages. Sometimes more. Lots of assignments and presentations that build up to final paper. I dropped course before first test.
Dr. Grasso brings clarity to what should be a hard subject. His insistence of reviews of the previous lecture which easily takes up the first 45 minutes of the class is actually extraordinarily helpful, so much so that the readings from the text aren't completely necessary. Do the labs on time and review them before the test and you should be fine.
Very nice guy! He is crystal clear about everything. He tries to make the material as easy as he can for his students. Reviews previous lectures every class. Recommend him!
Took Comp Psych with Grasso. He is so amazing!!! One of the best profs I have ever had. Such a sweet personality. Hardly uses the book, but definitely tests you on it. Not easy, but everyone loves him so much it makes you want to do well in the course. The secret is his charm and his extensive knowledge and warm character. TAKE HIM!!
Prof. Grasso is the best professor I have ever had. He made a topic I thought I would have no interest in into the class I looked forward to all week! Take him if you can but be warned, it is not an easy class.
Grasso is so compassionate, intelligent, and thorough. I have never felt that a professor wanted to help more than him. At the same time, he makes you work for your grade and be proud of it. He always has time for your questions. It is seriously a gift that I was able to take his class. Please take him.
Super nice, bubbly and helpful, but be warned: HE ASSIGNS WAY TOO MUCH WORK! If you're taking a full-time sch. it will be difficult to keep up and may affect your overall GPA. I had to drop as I had 4 other classes and needed to maintain my GPA.
ALL stat classes have weekly homework! His only 1 point each, graded tough, seems stressful. HOWEVER, worth little, tests graded EXTREMELY leniently by "king of partial credit". Learn on hw, excel on tests, get A. Gave extra credit on final. MUST read & learn from book, lectures fall behind, no board problem solving. Nice and helpful professor.
This class was hell for me the workload alone was a full time job. He has two test midterm & final, about 4 or 5 papers (last paper is 8-12 pg) and two presentations. You may feel stressed but if you talk to him he gives good feedback to help you get through the class.
Learn from text. Lectures behind, "theory4dummies" no formula breakdown, doesn't even cover Qs for weekly HW. Complete all hw Qs to get correct answer back 2 study. HW graded though by TA. Tests much easier, but NOT enough time! Definition Qs straight from hw, Prof grades easy DONOT leave Qs blankget partial credit. Final from tests wxtra credit.

Currently taking Grasso for Comparative psych. I study and work hard as a student and i find this class very confusing. He's unclear about pretty much everything and assigns way to much work. I would say he is very nice and he is passionate about his work but i would NOT recommend. Attendance doesn't count as well
Least helpful professor I have ever had his lectures are completely useless you might as well stay home and read the book everything in the book is "fair game" and he fully expects you to read the entire book from front to back with vety little reinforcement from lecture. Exams have essay questions, correct the sentence fills ins.
He is a very, very nice perspn, so I don't want to sound malicious. However, he always seems to have too much on his plate so he is too busy to talk during office hours sometimes and he doesn't explain the material well. People say he is good, but take someone else if possible. There are better options and I would not recommend or take again.
Doesn't return hw on time, not very clear. Was not a pleasant experience. Not very accessible outside of class either.
Okay "The Bad": Seemingly unorganized Busy Boring lectures Doesn't answer emails The Good: GREAT personality Easy-going Informative No strict attendance Lenient grading king of partial credit Easy A at the very least B Group assignments' fun & fair Exams don't break you I did HORRIBLE on the exams and got a B+ Highly recommend taking his class
Great guy but he can be a bit all over the place. You don't have to come to class since he doesn't do attendance but it is a bit helpful if you actually go. He gives a lot of work, although it is done in groups (which I hated). You HAVE TO read the textbook. Tests are all short answer and fill in the blank w/o word bank. Hard but do-able.
Really bad professor. Takes a whole month to return exams and dosen't even give proper feedback. Class as a whole is hard but he doesn't make it easier.
You HAVE to read the textbook, but the textbook he chose is very readable and easy to understand as long as you focus. You'll have to work for your grade, but Grasso cares about what he does and will offer as many opportunities to help you succeed as he can (partial credit, etc). Very assignment heavy but DO THEM, it's worth it later.
He, as a person, 10/10. The subject 0/10. STATS is HARD!!! The way the class is organized ugh NO. Labs are absolutely USELESS. He does truly want you to do well and cares. The final counts a lot but is open-book and 2 EC questions. HW SUCKS!
The online format included a Semester Thesis Group Project (Which is divided into 6 assignments that are each work-intensive.) There are 2 exams that are based purely on textbook readings and the 2nd final exam is cumulative on 17 Chapters with 150 mins for 168 Questions which is extremely difficult. The Professor takes too long to give feedback.
(1/2) Do yourself a favor and stay away from this class and professor. The workload is astronomical. Group project running throughout the entire semester. Live presentations. Research papers. 102 question midterm with 2 hr time limit. said the test would only be based off the textbook and not his class notes. Does not share slides.
(2/2) students explained their anxiety with time limit of test especial during a pandemic. this was not a care to him. Test was impractical. The workload is overbearing&very stressful. As a 4.0 student,I never felt more defeated and anxiety filled than when I took this class with ridiculous expectations. Final is cumulative&over 110 questions
I can say for certain he is the worst professor I have ever taken in my life.On top of a intensive all semester project , his exams are 100 questions and there is a 2 hour limit. He is an extremely tough grader, very difficult to communicate with as he really doesn't care much and is very cocky.I regret taking this class, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
I really regret taking this class. He does not understand that the world doesn't revolve around him and his course. He assigns lengthy papers which he critiques EVERY SINGLE word you write. Extremely harsh grader! Exams are 100 - 165 questions (which he writes himself) and you only have 1.5-2 hours to finish it. 98% of the class failed anyways.
I know that taking classes is not easy, and it's okay. But it is not okay to give 165 long questions with 2.5 hour limit, because it does not allow you to think about this question deeply. Harsh grader. Even though this class supposed to be interesting, for me it was draining and gave me a lot of anxiety. If you have a choice, take someone else.
For intro to psych, the course grade was determined by 3 tests only, all from textbook: "Anything in the textbook is fair game for an exam" The lectures were bona-fide Q&A/review sessions that didn't address the usually more involved knowledge necessary for exam questions, which made the lectures a waste of time (at least they were optional).
I started with 6 courses and withdrew from 2 to pass this class. He'd often get things mistaken. Each of the first 2 tests we took counted towards 33% of our grande and the last was 34%. He didn't require attendance so I'd take advantage and study on my own. We only read from 1 textbook that was 640 pages.
First impression: Professor Frank Grasso is a brilliant professor. Unbalanced syllabus, caused two panic attacks during the semester. He is not compassionate to those struggling with the material. His grading is harsh. My friend took his stats class the following semester and threw up before an exam because of stress. Lower-classman beware.
he is really sweet. def take him.
