Great class for those you are wanting to get into law enforcement. Though a lot of people seemed to stuggle in the class, I found it to be a breeze. Just come to class everyday, pay attention and use ALL of your common sense. 90% of the class was just common sense. All in all he was a GREAT teacher.
Great professor, his methods used to illustrate the legallity of searches and seizures are on the ball. This is a professor to take if you haven't, even for CRJ175
He is a difficult teacher in someways! he expects a lot from his students, i felt like I was in Law SchoOL, BUT he was very helpful i learned a lot from his class, go to class,in court assignment that i loved! a paper, he takes attandance daily, 4 quiz's you need to study but B's are very possible! "Overall it was one of my favorite Crj classes!!
Best law professor on campus! He cares about his students, and will take time out of his busy schedule to meet with you. Has a lot of passion for law, and a great sense of humor. As long as you pay attention and do your assignments, all will be well.
This is one of the best professors on the campus. He does not wate time, lectures are clear and helpful. If you attend regularly you do not have to spend much time reading textbook. His tests are very relevant to lectures, so if you take notes you have all the answers. He has a review session outside the class before the final which helps.
He was alright. Lectures are captivating and fun but his quizzes and final are head-scratchers. He'll pound litigation into your head until you're dreaming about it, but on the test throws in catalysts that totally negate everything you learned. Briefs are easy and attendance is required.
Best professor I have ever had. His lectures are well organized. The guy three down doesn't know what he's talking about; he's probably never taken his class before because nobody would be dumb enough to write that there is no logical sequence in the lectures about a teacher whom I think is the most organized professor I have ever taken.
If you don't do well on multiple choice quiz then don't take this course. Four quizzes and 3/4 must be a passing or else. Recommend other professors.
He is the best prof I've had a Sac STate. He both prosecuted and defended in the courts. He has lots of relevant stories illustrate the study topics. Encourages questions, gives clear answers & promotes discussion. There are over 50 students in class and he's learned everyone's name. His class is more engaging than reading a power pt. presentation.
This professor is one of the best I've taken. He has a strong passion for the law and he shows that when he lectures. His lectures always make you think hard and challenge the students. He has multiple choice examines but as long as you honestly pay attention and read the materials you should be fine. CRJ 174a with Professor Horowitz was fun an
Any Prof. can lecture from powerpoint or regurgitate info. from text...this IS NOT Prof. Horowitz. There's an art to professional lecturing, conveying comprehensible meaning to subject matter, and an ability to teach so students can retain; Prof. Horowitz epitomizes this in his captivating teaching style. If you want to learn and retain take him!
No, Professor Horowitz doesn't provide handouts, or powerpoint presentations. But, he is a good teacher! In my opinion, a good teacher is one who genuinely cares about the subject matter, and whether or not the students understand it. The icing on the cake is one who makes an effort to keep you interested. He may be different, but different is good.
Very good professor and an interesting subject. Go to class, pay attention, read the book. If there's anything you don't understand go to office hours and he'll be glad to help you. If you do these four things you'll be successful.
Prof. Horowitz is patently one of the best professors in the criminal justice department. You learn a lot in his class, but he is by no means a difficult teacher. If you can't pass his class, it's your own fault. He is also very approachable and willing to help struggling students. I would recommend Professor Horowitz in a heartbeat. TAKE HIS CLASS
I really enjoyed this course and the information it had to offer. Not being able to speak for the other professors who teach this course I would highly recommend taking it with Professor Horowitz. He makes the class and material fun and easy to learn and understand. It is easily one of my favorite courses to date!
Prof. Horowitz made a not so interesting class one of the best classes I've ever taken. If you love a hands on instructor who really knows his stuff and doesn't just read straight off of a powerpoint, take his class. He makes the material not only interesting but FUN! And yea, you have to pay attention, but thats the point if you want to learn!!
Great teacher! Is very helpful and patient. Explains in a way to help students understand. Not hard, but not a walk in the park
Prof. Horowitz is hands down THE single greatest instructor in the criminal justice department. He presents challenges that are possible to attain and is EXTREMELY knowledgeable. If you actually wish to learn something in College and don't want a lazy teach who reads off of power-point, THEN TAKE HOROWITZ!!!
Best teacher ever! i have never had a teacher so enthusiastic about his work and he made hard material really easy and comprehendible. very funny and will always make you laugh when you read his tests
Class is hard but an A is possible. You have to read the book, attend class and take notes. The McGeorge assignment was a lot of fun. Overall great professor and one of my favorite professors. Would take him again if I could.
Great teacher would recommend to anyone. Class can be a little difficult at times but if you pay attention during lectures you will be fine. Take him, talk about sports preferably Basletball
Very knowledgeable & hilarious prof. If you are a cj major this class is a MUST. Will prepare you very well for upper div classes. challenging but not difficult to get an A if you do your work. gives help & answers questions thoroughly. fair. worked defense & prosecution so has a point of view of both. lectures designed to help you understand/learn
One of the best prof I've had so far. This is not a "read the book/memorize keyterms" type of class. Tests and quizzes involve hypothetical situations and require students to APPLY what they learned. Go to class and you will do well on the tests. This 350 word limit is barely enough to describe how well Prof Horowitz has taught the course.
I think Prof. Horowitz is probably one of my favorite CRJ professors at Sac State. He took a Criminal Law class, which is supposed to be boring, and actually made it fun and interesting. The class consisted of 5 very easy case briefs (1 page), 3 Quizzes, and a Final. I barely opened the book, and he was pretty funny! I would highly recommend him!
Great professor. Always willing to talk with you after class or during his office hours if you need. Makes the class interesting with stories and situations. Does a great job getting the class involved with discussion. Highly recommended.
100% recommendation on taking this course, he's an excellent instructor. He is straight forward and expects his students to pay attention and attend class. Coursework involves: 5-case brief reviews, 5 quizes, a mid-term, and a final. If you pay attention, review the material, and complete your cases you should be successful in this class.
Horowitz is one of the best CRJ professors at Sac State. He cares about his students learning the content of law in this class. He was very happy to stay after class to help clarify anything for students. I really enjoyed the hypothetical situations with Doey Do-Wrong. Great class, great professor.
Take this professor if you want to be confused. he is a retired lawyer and all his lectures come from his experience, not from the book. so you do not know what to expect in his tests. Very confusing. He contradicts the book a lot. I would take this class with other professor, but if there is nothing available this guy will do it.
One of the best teachers I have had so far. His class is not the easiest but it is not so hard. Attending his class and reading the book definitely helps. The class consist of 4 case brief, 4 quizzes and the final.
Overall good class, he is enthusiastic and knows his stuff. Not very helpful when it comes to getting your grade up and does NOT do any sort of test curve. Also no study guide for the final (no help at all) and could use a little lesson on teaching "new school". Nice guy but needs a little work on getting up to speed with todays teaching.
Excellent professor. Complain about his lectures and how he doesn't use power point? Our standard of learning has lowered and Horowitz is hanging in there to keep the standard up. Complain about not knowing your grade? GO TALK TO HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS! He knows his stuff, pay attention, take notes, read, and you'll do good on the final. Quality
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He is harder than most teachers in the department because he actually challenges you to learn and take interest. Very helpful when you seek his help. Great use of videos to complement his lectures. Excellent energy! Big thing to remember is that he challenges students to APPLY what they've learned. CLASS, NOTES, READ, SUCCESS
Professor Horowitz is the best CRJ professor at Sac State. I took him for CRJ 2 and CRJ 121. He actually teaches you the material and if you pay attention, take notes and study, you will do well. The margin for error in his classes is slim and it is important to do well and study from day 1. Overall you will learn a ton in his class.
AWESOME Professor! He does cumulative exams but reviews on information EVERYDAY! GO TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES AND YOU WILL BE GREAT. Also utilize his office hours if you have any questions. It's also great to follow along in the book while he lectures. It's helpful with the exams. TAKE HIM if you want to LEARN!
Best CRJ professor. Pay attention in class and you'll do good on the quizzes. I loved him.. hoping I could take him again for another crj class.
One of the best CJ professors i've ever had. He is on a liberal side, but it doesn't' get in his way of fairness. He is very passionate about what he teaches and it shows. I learned a lot from this class and it was a blast. Very interesting lectures, you will never be bored. His test are tricky and he is pretty tough on grading.
He is a great person, however as a teach WOW he's hard, he was unclear in the beginning about the questions on test many were things we didnt discuss. Lectures are good but take good notes. I learned a lot in this class but testing was rough, paper were graded with an iron fist! Had read a 300 page book and write a 6 pg paper ASAP
Seriously the best professor ever! He's a tough grader. Never missed a class because lectures were so interesting. He makes sure to get everyone involved and is also very good at clarifying any doubts. If I could have him as my professor for the rest of my college career, I totally would.
Class revolves on hypothetical situations based on common and modern law. Funny stories with Doey-Do-Wrong! Makes learning and applying law fun! 5 simple case briefs, 4 quizzes, and a final! Test questions are tricky, so read carefully! Case briefs are based on that week's assigned topic according to what group you're in.
Lectures are interesting but the quizzes are tricky!
The quizzes are head-scratchers. He contradicts the book.
The amount of studying you put in will not reflect the grade you earned. This class was very discouraging. You will learn a lot, but if you question his grading (which many people did) he will get defensive and shut you down. I honestly wouldn't take him again. I felt like he didn't want to give out good grades. Take Kubicek
Great prof. Is nice and willing to help during office hours. His tests require you to read carrefully and think . He was a lawyer for alot of years and both defended and proscuted. He provides lots of examples to make the law clear. Not an easy prof, but I learned more than most CJ courses. I'd take him again.
This is the second class I've taken with this prof. I'd recommend him because he knows the material, he's got a sense of humor, the class is like a conversation. He learns everyone's name and asked us all questions, not in a scarey way. He uses lots of illustrations to explain the concepts. His tests make you think . He's not boring.
Really good prof. took him for CRJ 2 and don't regret it. Yes his class can be a bit difficult and he makes you work for your grade, but I have never learned so much in any class in a semester than I did in prof. Horowitz class. He really does care about his students and will help during office hours. Funny and interesting. Would take again!
This is my second semester at Sac State. Horowitz is the best prof I've had and his class is the only one I actually lookied forward to. He's clear and organized, stays on the subject, invites questions and knew us all. Today he held a study session for the Final. It was on his own time so that we could do better on the Final. Nice guy.
Perhaps the best teacher I have had at Sac State. He knew everybody's name in class and was open to any questions from students. However, he is a tough teacher who makes you work hard for your grade and I respected that. I enjoyed every lecture. He is extremely entertaining and hilarious when he teaches. HIGHLY recommended!
Horowitz is the best prof I've had at Sac State. If you go to class and take notes his quizzes are easy. Requires 5 briefs but gives samples at start of semester and writes alot on your briefs to help get A's. His lectures are great. He answers all questions and works to make the stuff clear. Great class & I learned alot of criminal law
You've got to dcide if your taking the class for a grade or to learn criminal law. There are easier teachers, but they probably don't care as much about the subject or their students. Horowitz had a study group the day after classes to help us prep for the final. He's nice, funny, but wants his students to be able to apply the law. He's demanding.
Amazing Professor! Take him if you really want to learn about CR J. He is a tough, but fair grader. If you skip even one class, you will be so behind, but showing up to class is so worth it! Case briefs - 20%. Quizzes - 40%. Final Exam - 40%. TAKE REALLY GOOD NOTES DURING THE LECTURE. The quizzes are straight from the lectures, not the textbook.
Professor Horowitz is by far the most meticulous professor I ever had. He plans every single minute of every lecture to maximize class time. You can't just read the book once and think you will get an A on the quizzes or final, you have to read and re-read. He is extremely fair in his grading and explains why you received the grade that you did.
His class is AMAZING! You can ill learn soo many legal cans and cants.. His tests require you to pay attention to detail and so does his briefs. BUT. His class is enjoyable and he will pick on you, just know that you should always answer with gusto! :)
This isn't an easy class. He expects a lot from you, but it's doable if you put in the time and effort. There are five briefs worth 20%, 4-5 quizzes worth 40%, and the cumulative final worth 40%. Show up, take good notes, and ask questions during class or his office hours. He wants you to pass, you just have to work for it.
Look you have to attend and participate. Also hes a fun teacher... but pretty narrow minded and anti law enforcement. One of the best teachers to take search and seizure from. If you need an easy B than take someone else. If you actually want to learn the material than this is the best guy.
Professor Horowitz is an outstanding professor. I was intimidated at first because he calls on students in every class but that only made me want to stay on top of my work to assure I can answer questions. It's a class that should be taken seriously. There's few case briefs in the book. There are quizzes every two weeks, 2mid-terms, and a final.
Horowitz is a great teacher and if you show up to class everyday and take good notes, there should be no reason not to pass. He is very big on student participation. CRJ2 is a very interesting course and I would definitely take Professor Horowitz's classes in the future.
He was an amazing professor and he really got to know all of his students.
One of the most influential teachers in my life. Amazing class, very enjoyable.
Awesome guy! My favorite professor thus far. SHOW UP TO CLASS! Take notes and read the book and will do fine on the the quizzes. The final was kinda tough (120 questions) but study and you will do fine. QUICK TIP: when he hands back the quizzes, take good notes on the questions you missed because he collects them back.
Really great teacher, He was a prosecutor and defense lawyer so he knows his stuff. Lectures are very informative and he will make you participate, which if you have common sense isn't bad. 5 case briefs(very easy). 4 m/c quizzes(pretty hard) because it has those which is best answer situations. and a final. Go to class & ask Q's & you'll do fine.
4 m/c quizzes(average difficulty), 5pg paper on book(easy, gives guidelines), 5pg jury duty paper(super easy and interestingly fun). 1 final exam that covers entire semester(if you study then its not too bad). Overall great class and not as difficult as everyone says. I barely read the book but paid attention in class and took notes and passed w/A
Going to class you think you understand but when it comes to the quizzes and final it has nothing to do with the lectures. I like him as a person but he defiantly tries to confuse you!
Prof Horowitz is the best teacher ever. I love his quizzes because instead of just memorizing facts, you have to know how to apply the laws to different scenarios. They make you think and give you a nice challenge. Only needed textbook for case briefs, but you can also google them. Overall amazing class with a funny teacher
His quizzes make no sense so it's hard to get a good grade and he doesn't show you your grade until the end of the semester. He enjoys his reputation of being an extremely difficult teacher and thinks it's funny if his students don't pass.
I just finished CJ 123 with Horiwitz. He's the best prof I've had a Sac State. He knows the stuff and makes the class interesting and fun. He's got true stories to illustrate the different rules of law . He runs his class in a relaxed way so it feels o.k. to ask questions. He's funny and wants everyone to get it . His tests are hard but fair.
I just finished CJ2. The class was so good I want to major in CJ. partly because Prof H.'s classes were great and he would explain stuff after class. The CJ 2 student before me said we were never told our grades. but prof H. gave us a running total after each of the 4 quizes how many semester points earned an A, B, or C. I knew my grade.
This was the best teacher I have ever had hands down! He cares about his students and really does explain things different than anyone else. No power points!!! One of the best parts about the class is that he knows the material so he uses knowledge not a power point. He will tell stories from his past and really will make this the best class.
This teacher is amazing, do not listen to people that gave him one star and poor ratings. This is college expect to have to think in class he will not just hand out grades and does have tricky questions on the test, but he will help you if you need it in his office hours. He has the tests graded extremely fast by the next class and then he reviews.
Great professor, loves the subject and transfers his love for the law onto his students.
I'm very impressed by his teaching style. He goes very in depth to help students understand the legal concepts that he presents. His lectures are always a blast, and his interactive and Socratic method of teaching provokes critical thinking and greater understanding. His quizzes are not easy so attendance and reading is a must. Ask Questions!
Favorite teacher ever! Quizzes really make sure you know the material. Pay attention in class and you'll pass all the quizzes. Made class fun and enjoyable. Would strongly recommend. Am trying to take him again as many times as I can. Textbook only needed for case briefs, or you can use google.
Out of my four semesters at CSUS, Horowitz has been one of the most intelligent, interactive, and enjoyable professors I've had the privilege of taking thus far. Take the class seriously and you'll learn so much about the laws of crime. The class was challenging and very comprehensive. Take good notes and you'll do well. Can't recommend him enough!
It's a tough course, but Professor Horowitz is an excellent educator and more than willing to help when the subject matter gets tricky. He won't give you the answers, so don't expect that, but he'll absolutely help you figure it out. So glad that I took this course with him and would take other courses with him without hesitation.
Professor Horowitz is an amazing professor. The course had 5 case briefs (2-3 pages), 4 quizzes (20 questions), and final (120 questions). At first it may seem intimidating, but this course was fun and engaging. If law is something your interested in, then this course for you. Professor Horowitz is the best professor to take for this course!!!
This class was amazing. He is very specific in the way he wants the case briefs to be written and his test can be tricky but if you read carefully and pay attention you'll be fine. No extra credit and attendance matters. Very easy going in class and gives great real life examples. 5 case briefs, 4 test and 1 final. I would absolutely take again.
Professor Horowitz is one of my favorite teachers at CSUS. His depth of knowledge regarding law is obvious and he is able to explain complicated legal concepts and scenarios in a very accessible manner. His class wasn't easy, but I learned a lot. Mock court was super fun and the class text was a really interesting non-fiction legal novel. A+ Prof.
Great teacher. Tough grader. Very enjoyable lectures. Looking forward to taking another class from Professor Horowitz again.
Hands down my favorite teacher at CSUS. He takes the time to know each student individually and you can truly notice his love for the material. He respects each of his students as well as they respect him. 5 Case briefs, 4 quizzes, and a final. He says it himself, but this class is hard but fair. Do your part & he will do his. 10/10 recommend .
Definitely the best professor Ive had so far at Sac State. He cares about the students and you will learn a lot about criminal law. He makes class very interesting with examples of dewy do wrong. The tests are hard but fair but writing down the examples he gives will help a lot for the tests. Overall great professor absolutely recommend
Whenever I had any questions he was always available either through email or office hours. He does lecture alot, but his lectures are on scenarios that so it's basically common sense stuff. Besides all the serious stuff he has a good sense of humor and isn't afraid to roast a student or two .
he makes his lectures fun and you think you understand everything. But he makes the quizzes very confusing. Our class received a quiz back today and only 20 people out of 60 passed including ds. All of our quiz results have been poor. He grades his briefs hard.
Overall an amazing professor here at sac state , class isn't easy but if you attend every day you will pass the class. Lectures are straight forward, amazing notes and examples he provides for us to understand. Case briefs are pretty easy but quizzes are challenging. I recommend taking his class ! I respect this professor and his teaching.
Great professor. Has a very in depth knowledge of criminal law from past experience as both a prosecutor and public defender. Uses a Socratic teaching style (he asks the class questions in order to teach), so be prepared to be called on a lot and raise your voice! Understanding of course material is entirely dependent on lectures; minimal textbook.
Professor Horowitz never missed a single class even when he was sick. Everyday he came in asking everyone how their day was. His background with criminal law is both as a Public Defender and a District Attorney. Whatever question or topic we were struggling on, he would have 3 or 4 examples to simplify it for us. Highly recommend. Makes you work it
Fairly easy class, so long as you pay attention. Minimal note taking, mostly focusing on keywords and basic concepts. Does a great job of explaining concepts in a very simple manner. Very understanding with students and very open to out of class conversations. Overall solid professor and class
You will learn a whole lot in his search and seizure class. Only downside is that you must put a lot of effort into this. He makes it very challenging, which can be a headache sometimes, yet very rewarding. I'm glad I took this class now that it's over, but I'm not sure if I want a headache like that again.
Prof. Horowitz uses class participation & hypothetical's as his class lecture. The work is not hard & the more you ask questions & participate the more you can understand. Some of the questions on the quizzes can be based on his interpretation which can be confusing but over all a good class. You will learn a lot without realizing it.
Very great teacher. He gives you an understanding of criminal law and an inside look of how everything works. Awesome leactures, educational and open to any questions.
Great professor. His exams can be difficult, but you will learn a lot by taking his class. Moreover, if you pay attention, take good notes, understand his scenarios & how the law applies to them, & study then you should be fine. His class consist of 5 brief cases, 4 quizzes, & a final. Lectures are interesting & suggest sitting in the front rows.
Professor Horowitz will not give you an easy "A." The concepts in his class may be difficult to grasp, but he is open to questions and will help students to understand them. To get the best grade it is recommended that students supplement the lectures with the textbook readings, even though you can pass just using the lecture notes.
Prof. Horowitz knows his stuff and is great at giving lectures. I am definitely taking another class with him in upper division.
Very funny guy. You can tell how passionate he is about the subject. Lectures were NEVER boring. Pretty tough grader (I'm a B average student & had a D the entire semester.) 4 quizzes & 5 case briefs. Final is cumulative, so you better be there when he goes over quiz answers. Attendance taken daily. Be attentive because he WILL call on you!
Awesome teacher who cares about his students and ensures everyone is learning. Attendance is mandatory. Not too much homework but tests and quizzes can be difficult. You will learn a lot from him. His teaching method is great. He lectures a lot but gives good examples and engages you. Would highly recommend.
Professor Horowitz is by far the best CJ professor at Sac State. His enthusiasm for teaching and desire to help his students grasp the content is more than any other professor. His tests rely heavy on his lectures so attendance is a must however, its fun and exciting to attend ! Speak up. He loves to hear from his students and attend office hours !
BEST college prof. I've ever had. His lectures are interesting and he makes sure you know the material. He's a pretty tough grader, but it just makes you work harder. I wish I could take all CRJ classes with him. He will call on you to make sure you're understanding/ paying attention. Don't miss class b/c he doesn't give out study guides.
This is an incredible professor, take him if you can. Clear expectations, very organized, super knowledgeable. He'll answers any questions u have thoroughly. He's not easy but you'll learn a ton.
Prof Horotwitz is a great teacher and has amazing lectures. I highly recommend his class. His test however can be very challenging because the multiple choice answers can be argued either way. 5 briefs in class 4 quizzes and a final.
He does not like when you are late. He gives 4 quizzes that are tricky but not hard to pass. You must go to class. Paying attention is important because he calls on you randomly throughout the whole classs. Gives lots of examples so that you make sure that you understand what he is talking about. great professor.
Hes fun to hang with. Gives out very good straight-forward lectures during instruction time. Hes the kind of guy that wants his students to engage more in participating.
His lectures are amazing especially his stories! He seems tough at first but once you get a hang of him you will learn a lot! Take notes and pay attention to the lectures! most of what he is saying will be on the quizes
DO NOT SKIP CLASS-he gives extra credit if you show up to every class and YOU WILL NEED IT! While his lectures were interesting and informative, he is the toughest grader I have ever had. He has a very specific way of grading and although the criteria is clear, you will put in a lot of work to pass. 5 quizzes, 5 papers, and a final.
I honestly loved this class. I had taken Horowitz for my law of crimes class my sophomore year, and when I saw that he was open for CJ 123, I couldn't pass it up. He does take attendance, but you earn points for simply going to class. He does a great job of incorporating real life court cases to help the laws more easily understood. 100% recommend.
makes you work for the grade, but easily one of the best professors in the program. forces participation, but youll learn more in this class than all your others combined. awesome at lectures, makes sure everyone understands the material. not an easy A, but if you put in effort, youll see the results. really cares for student success
iTS JUST VERBAL LECTURE AFTER LECTURE. HE'S TEST CAN BE CONFUSING AT TIMES. I WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING ANOTHER PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN. THIS CLASS REQUIRES YOUR TIME AND EFFORT AND BRAIN CELLS.
Awesome teacher. I took him for CRJ123. His teaching is lecture heavy, but as long as you listen and take notes, you'll be fine. His tests are mainly based on his lectures. His tests can be a little confusing, but he does take time to set-up study groups. He once came in on the weekend to help us study for the final. Best teacher!
VERY VERY STRICT! no phones, laptops, and attendance is mandatory but he knows his information VERY well. Calls on people and will get to know his students and relates the law with real life situations. 4 quizzes, 5 briefs, and 1 final. Very old school but GREAT professor!!!!!!
The BEST professor I have ever had! His lectures were super fascinating and full of useful examples. The class is tough, but he makes material clear and understandable as long as you attend class. I can't wait to take another class with him.
Hes a great teacher who is very stimulating and open minded. He is willing to hear students ideas and opinions of things relating to class topics. Occasionally he will have class discussions about current events that are very informative and engaging. You get what you give in this class. Make sure you show up for all the classes and youll pass.
Prof. Horowitz is one of the best CRJ professors I've had at Sac State! There's 5 case briefs, 4 quizzes, and 1 cumulative final. He doesn't rely on Power Point presentations, so attending class is mandatory in order to fully understand the material. He's knowledgeable and clearly enjoys teaching the law. Don't pass up the opportunity to take him!
Youll either love him or hate him. Textbook only used for case briefs, tests are based on lecture material. Hes a pretty kooky guy, but I learned the law concepts pretty well. You have to think the way he does for tests because he makes them himself but its all multiple choice. All very conceptual and generally a great class
This was an amazing class! The only thing is, you must put in the effort. Read the assigned pages and also, during lectures, I recommend taking notes. The examples that are given in class are very similar to those on exams. For the case briefs, just follow his specific format and actually read the section before to know what to write about!
CJ2 was one of the best classes that I have taken. Prof. Horowitz makes laws that are complicated more relatable, and gives you multiple different scenarios to make sure that you can grasp the concept. He's open to questions and hypotheticals that you come up with on your own, and answers in ways that always keep you thinking. Hard but worth it.
Makes dense lectures endurable by introducing concepts in a way students can relate to their own lives, encouraging active participation, and sneaking in the occasional joke or outdated reference. Not an "easy A" but if you show up to every lecture, or at the very least READ THE MATERIAL when you can't be bothered you should expect nothing less :)
Professor Horowitz is certainly an expert in his field. He gives examples of cases he has worked on in his career as prosecutor and public defender and relates them back to topics in class. He will call on people in class at random, so make sure you know the material and pay attention in the lectures. I would definitely take a class of his again.
Certain weeks you are required to do case briefs. That's all the work you have to do. There are quizzes, midterm and final. No group projects or presentation but sometimes he calls on you to explain the case brief. Sometimes he calls on you during class to answer the question. Go to class and you get an A. He explains everything during class.
This was one of my favorite classes that I've taken so far at Sac State. This professor does a good job at conveying the teachings of law in a way that is understandable. I think everyone can learn something from taking this class even if they aren't criminal justice majors.
Great professor, but his quizzes/exams are incredibly difficult. They are all hypothetical/scenario-based questions and all answers are similar. Take diligent notes in class, ask questions, and you'll be okay. Strict on attendance/participation. No textbook needed, only get the case book for briefs. 5 briefs, 4 quizzes, and a comprehensive final.
Dont take his class if you 1. arent a CRJ major and 2. if you dont wanna fail. Hes good at explaining the material however test are the worst thing, their confusing and worded so you can fail. Briefs yeah no point in going to office hours to check what he scribbled on your paper lol he will just send you back just as confused as you came in.
LOVE Professor Horowitz! You can tell he loves his job. A few papers, he is picky on the format of the paper, and if its not how he wants it, youll lose points. Mid term & final , no quizzes and no homework! 8 page movie assignment that isnt too hard. Great professor & class!
I enjoyed being part of Professor Harrowitz's class this semester. He is so knowledgeable in what he teaches, and you can tell that he is passionate about it and loves teaching. He is also excellent at understanding the material by giving many scenarios as an example and finding different ways to make you understand the material.
This Professor is very passionate about what he teaches! He is a VERY tough grader, but it will certainly make you a better student. He gave me a run for my money for sure. You MUST attend class. If you are a student that likes to skip do not take this Professor!! Overall this class is tough - please be ready to read, attend class, and work.
I LOVVEEEEE Professor Horowitz. Hes an amazing professor and you can tell he loves his students, his teaching job, and his past prosecutor job. He has amazing stories that tie into the lecture which will help you in the exams so PAY ATTENTION!! He takes attendance and the type to remember your name. Dont be afraid to ask questions. Amazing prof.
Old-fashioned, Knowledgable, Passionate. Amazing with lectures. Quizzes are based on scenarios from lectures. Best professor I've had here. Textbooks come in handy with the laws, policies, penal codes, statutes. 5 case briefs due per person, 4 quizzes, & 1 Final. Hold office hours on Mondays. Speaks of real-life experiences. Dislike gizmos (tech).
Professor Horowitz is passionate about what he teaches, however be prepared to participate. It is also important that you attend class and take notes because he gives scenarios during his lectures that will end up on the test. Finally, he cares about his students and is willing to assist them with whatever struggles they may have.
One of the best at what he does, had him last semester and recommend him 10/10. If you're used to Quizlet don't take him pls.
He was an amazing professor. He spent a lot of time answering questions and doing lectures. I can adamantly say I learned a lot in this class. I do have to warn though, that this is not a PowerPoint, devices are permitted, and tardies are OK course.
Professor Horowitz is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the material. His classes can be challenging, but engaging with the content and using resources like unstuckstudy for study prep can really pay off. Mandatory attendance, but worth it to learn a lot.
Professor Horowitz was extremely kind and obviously cares about his students, but the tests are extremely hard, cover topics that he says he's not going to talk about in the test. He is not very online savvy, so it is very difficult to know what your grade is. Get ready to study for the exams, take an extreme amount of notes and cry about the final
The professor enforces a no-device policy for valid reasons. His clear, example-rich lectures focus on case briefs, with only four assigned over three months. Tests consist of 20 questions; I found the first easy and got cocky using my phone behind his back, but flunked the second test due to distraction. I never used my phone in class again. 10/10
Amazing Professor. Very engaging and, at times, funny lectures. 4 20 question quizzes, 5 case briefs, 1 cumulative final. The quizzes are scenario based and the final is scenario based and T/F. Grades are kept track at the beginning of your notebook, not canvas. He has been my favorite professor at sac state hands down so far! Get ready for Marty!
