IF you do the homework you should be fine. He won't throw any curv**** at you on the tests or anything. Just study like hell for the final because that's the real hard part about the class.
pay attention in lecture. does not have sufficient office hours. fairly homework intesive, pay attention and do the work should be alright. straghtforward
Nice guy. Generally pretty helpful. Doesn't explain things well. Skips over many steps when doing problems without explaining what and why he skipped. Overall an easy going person although I've had much better Math teachers.
Easy class. Draw a Free body diagram, sum forces and moments. Done. Lectures can be boring, but write them down. Work the assigned homework problems far in advance, they take a long time to do. And do them, because HW makes up like 70% of your grade. He grades fair. Tests can be kinda difficult and take a while to do, but the final was easy.
I really have enjoyed this class so far. He is an easier grader than most, and is fairly good at explaining concepts if you PAY ATTENTION. Very easy going and friendly. He doesnt take attendence either, and doesnt care if you leave class early. Very helpful if you take the time and effort to ask questions. (:
His advising sucks, especially if you don't know his personality. If this is your first year at BCC, make sure you talk with some one who is transferring, not only with Lee. engr210 is a kind of easy, but watch out for 220 he doesn't explain very well, the class is boring, and he doesn't drop any test. you don't want to loose any point. hard to mak
Frank can be helpful if he feels like it. VERY HW INTENSIVE, although he doesn't grade them that hard. Lectures are as boring as they possible could be. and watch your sign, S-I-G-N gets annoying along with the rest of the little catch phrases. spend a good amount of time on the design project. Tests aren't terrible, but just study full hw sets.
Nice teacher, and helpful if you seek help. but he is usually an enginering teacher, so you can tell that the material of math120 is not his main subject. But he still knows what he is talking about, he just can be confusing when he skips a step or two. Test and homework are pretty easy aslong as you do it and study some.
he doesn't explain the material at all and leaves students wondering how to solve the problems. you are forced to read your book as guidance to solutions. he will start working on a problem, but never finish it. it's frustraiting.
As already mentioned, he does not cover homework assignments throughly. It seems that he really wants the students to learn the mechanics behind math rather than just copying down his lectures. Overall, I enjoyed being in his class. He is very passionate towards teaching and easy on grading.
Make sure you get sleep the nite before or risk falling asleep in class. Its not that its boring, but rather in monotone. Exams are easy if you study and atleast try to show some interest in the hw. Gets a bit confusing when skips a step. but ask questions and he will help! Prepare to participate in class problems..IT DOES HELP..somewhat. Good luck
This class was great! only 3 tests, no hw is ever due, he dosnt take attendance, and he grades easy. I never once opened my book. His hand-outs are just as good. It wasnt the most fun class but it's worth it
I didn't see any issue with him skipping steps as others have mentioned. Sure, he doesn't write every step down. This isn't a basic algebra class... Anything skipped is typically obvious to people who know algebra, so why write it? There are 3 tests and a final. He grades fair & tests are reasonable. I'd take a class with him again.
Poor quality teacher avoid at all costs. Another example of the low quality CS program at BCC. This guy has totally unrealistic expectations and holds you responsible for info not covered in class or text. Knowledgeable at code, incompetent at teaching. The old expression "if you can't do anything else then go into teaching" certainly applies.
I thought he was an okay teacher. Really nice, and if you're a good student (you do your homework and study the material) you will do fine in his class. As long as you're patient he will try to help you. I would more or less recommend him.
I felt like he was teaching to the students that had already known a little C++, while the rest of us we're completely left in the dust. Very frustrating class if you have no CS experience. During class all he does is run through code on the projector, and there is little class interaction (not all his fault). Try to take Gandham if you can!
His tests are realy hard but he will patiently answer any questions you might have
He was good, but my problem was that I kept falling asleep. He did explain most things well, but he asked for so much student participation that it became confusing. For example, if a student had a wrong answer, he would just write it down anyway. Then, I would have it in my notes, but he'd then do it the right way and I'd be confused. He's not bad
This was a hybrid class, so the teacher was only there if you had technical problems. Tests were easy, went over them afterward, gave study guides. Overall good.
lee could can't teacher anything but c++ i have already learned c++ and have to sit in the class becuase of the way bcc is setup not allowing students to jump over classes when they can easly do so. i have learnt nothing form lee as a teacher and have found him to not be a good teacher. if u can avoid taking his classes. he also teaches eng, eng, mat
Overall good teacher. If you already know C++ then he will not expect you to come to class but still will expect you to be prepared for the three midterm exams, a final and five assignments. He's not as demanding as other teachers and always makes clear his expectations. He always makes sure to answer all questions. He's a good guy!
Pretty good teacher, explains things easily enough (for me, at any rate). But as it was said before, very soothing, sleepy voice. I fell asleep several times in his class, much to my embarrassment. However, I still managed to pass all my tests, so that's cool. Also, on a side note, his voice reminds me of someone I work with who I really dislike.
He is alright. His teaching isn't that great and neither is the book. I have had worse teachers, but Mr. Lee does not make it easy to learn. He is often times confusing on explaining things and he makes a TON of mistakes in class
It is difficult to stay organized in his class because class and the book are so different and he does not make it easy to take notes in class, so come test time you don't have much to study with. Lots of stress over a fairly easy subject. He's the engineering adviser, and this class seems to cramp his style. I do not recommend.
This class says it is for beginners in programing but it is for people who have been programing alot. The class started with 40 people and ended with 15 people left who barely passed. Avoid him at all costs!!
Clarity from an engineering prof that most people only dream of- and he is very understandable in concepts and in the way he speaks, American English; no yoda speak. He is very approachable as well, and inter-class discussion was always encouraged. Background is strong with '90 MSME from UW, 20Yr teaching experience.
Easy to follow along! Great reviews! extremely helpful! He really cares about you knowing your grades, and doing well in his class. Prints out practice exams for every test, as well as gives you your final predicted grade! I definitely reccommend him!
overall great teacher. clear in his teachings and cares about if you pass or not. gives you grades to make sure youre doing ok. drops lowest test scores and if your final higher than 1 your old test he replaces it with the final grade and you also get the final test grade! no homework required, gives test reviews which helps. good pick for math.
I didn't like him. His test are too long and you don't know what to expect on them. He might go over a thing once but then give it on the test. 60% of the class failed second test..No assigned homework though.
This is a self-study class. Lee has great knowledge about engineering, but he does not know how to teach. His lecture was useless. The homework question was way too hard, and he never spend time go over the homework problem in details; he just rush through everythings.
Great instructor if you prefer detailed examples rather than repetition. It is common for him to spend an entire class working on one problem while incorporating different theories and teaching new formulas. Tests are kind of tough but he is more-than-fair with grading. If you understand the logic you aren't heavily penalized for errors.
Extremely hard, as if Math isn't hard enough. Lee is an engineer not a math teacher. He must have been forced to teach math because it shows. Tests were extremely difficult, little to study from. Never finished a single test. Class was a waste, easier to learn from the book. Extra credit was silly/wasteful. Hardest teacher yet after 2 yrs, dont take
He was a very bad teacher. All of my learning was from teaching myself out of the book. He hardly teaches- he asks the students to walk him through the problems. Of course we dont know how- thats why we're taking the class! His tests are long and hard. If he says something wont be on a test- it will be! For a beginner in trig- dont take this class!
He spends the entire class on one problem-which he asks other students to solve. They mess up So if you're trying to take notes you always have to erase. Doesn't give study guides. Suggests some hw- but do all of the problems in the book because he tests on them all. This is a self-study, self-teach class. Dont waste your time going to class.
If you want a professor that can actually teach you math AVOID Lee. He has a very boring lecture style and his tests are way too long.
he is a very great teacher .. well he was the fist teacher i took the cLASS WITHand i found it really fun and interesting ..
Somehow he is not belong to some student for he expect student know where to find value from chart and he refused to show student until run out of time student signed tutor with him.
i do not recommend this teacher for comp sci beginners. the only knowledge u can get is from reading the textbook, as his lectures aren't as helpful if u didn't. grade is based on 5 projects and 3 out of 4 tests, some projects require reading in advance. tips: read ahead, practice online exercises for tests, and study terminology for the final.
I took Franks's math 97. He is an engineer and its rare for him to teach this class, but its very hard to tell. He was very open to suggestions, likes the class to participate, and give pretty clear examples. There is only 3 in class exams and one common final in which you are graded on. Homework is assigned on the first day and its only recommende
Teaches in a boring, dry manner. Tests are too long. Needs to be enthusiastic about his job. Would avoid him and take Steiroff or Roberts.
Useless teacher. he cant teach at all and assumes everyone knows the material even though in the beginning he will assume no one knows the material. Needs to become an engineer instead of teacher. Waste of time
Questions and projects are all challenging. This is not a class for overly-relaxing students. Rarely lecture in class, so you must read the textbook by yourself. Fortunately, it's a very good textbook. As long as you read the textbook and exercise at home, attendance is not mandatory...
He is the best prof ever!!! Really helpful, and helps to students come to his during office hours!!
he is an engineer. lets leave it at that. He gets so focused on the drawings of the graphs being just right. the complete grade is based on 3 tests and a final. There is extra credit, 10 assignments, each worth 1 point total, but each on is graded out of 5 points. (2/5 on 1 assignment means .4 towards total 10) it was ridiculously hard.
3 tests and a final. no mandatory attendance. His tests are wayyyy to long. He isn't very nice when it comes to asking for more time. Stressed word problems/application problems. Wastes a lot of class time on tedious games, puzzles, and riddles. I wish he had taught us more math, and not left it up to us to teach ourselves.
Frank is helpful if you know how to ask questions. Meaning you do NOT ask general questions. I thought his exams were reasonable, but he could test the same ideas if he broke the problems down and ask more than just 2 Qu's. Overall Frank is a good instructor. He's not the kind of teacher that will just give you an answer when you have a question.
Best prof I've had since attending BC. He knows his material and doesn't directly teach from the book. This class was really fun if you're getting into engineering.
Takes 3 days to show one example. Tries to make entire class participate but it fails horribly due to not moving on until someone gives the right suggestion then does not give clear instructions to get the answer. Gone in to office hours a couple times in previous classes and was told to tough it out.
Frank Lee is the only one who teach Engineering in Bellevue College, so... there is no choice for students. What i want to say is He is not a good teacher, He don't care his exams will make almost all of his students fail and get the fail grade eventually...
Pros: Really nice; Energetic; Lots of extra credit; makes lectures engaging; Tries to get class involved by having little demonstrations with volunteer students. Cons: Lectures on one section for the whole class time; "In-Between-Class Tasks" assignments can be lame; Answers your questions with a question; Makes you think twice about your answers.
Frank doesn't time his classes very well, and takes student's time for granted. Oftentimes he gave us examples in class with a lot of tedious work in them and expected his class to find the answers to them. His examples often have nothing to do with the homework and he doesn't give clear adcice, opting to ask more questions instead.
I had Frank thrice, for Engineering Graphics, Mechanics of Materials and Dynamics. The tests are tough to complete in the time allotted, but the material is appropriate. Homework is mandatory and very time consuming. Lectures are a bit tedious, but clear.
Terrible teacher. If you have the option, don't take him. He is unorganized and doesn't use class time well. He spends most classes going over 2 or 3 problems and often answers questions with questions. Going to class is pretty much useless. Also, use the multimedia library (especially the PowerPoints) a lot if you want to actually learn something.
He's a nice guy, but he spends most of the class time doing things that did not actually help me learn the material. He makes you use MyMathLab, which is good, because without it I would have failed the class. Use the resources on there and don't bother showing up except for exam days, because you probably won't learn anything in class.
Frank is hands down the worst teacher ever. Do not bother going to class, its all him trying to figure out 1 ridiculous problem that you rarely get the answer to. A wiser use of your time would be the insanely long homework assignments he gives out online (like 100-150 questions each). You really have to teach yourself in this class, he is no help.
Dr. Lee is a great choice. Very open to student suggestions and participation during lectures, which is typically walking through problems. Funny guy. Be prepared with your questions if you meet him for office hours. Not particular to Lee, but for this class, know linear algebra! Know Diff Eq! Do the homework and you'll get an A.
If you have no prior knowledge on engineering graphics, dont take this class. I found it very hard to ask Frank questions one on one and in front of class. I feel like he tries to make you seem like a dumbass. He also doesnt teach half of the content required in order to do the homework. I really regret taking this class.
Three midterms and a final. That's the most I've ever done for a quarter. We had to carry around two textbooks, a pouch with all the engineering tools in it, a booklet and a engineering pad. My backpack was full just from this class. He has all his homework layed out and given to you at the beginning of the quarter, and doesn't remind you to do it.
Frank lee is very bad at teaching. His speech un-logical and confusing. Want to get a clear answer for a question from him ? No , dont expect too much. He doesnt use text book at all and ramdonly uses the ppts from the pearson website. Also randomly make up a problem as a model to explain lecture.
He is a nice person and is willing to help you , but his exams are quite difficult. For a 4 credit class, it feels like a 6 credit class. The exams will make up most of your grade, followed by homework. He diligently posts materials on canvas. Overall, he's a very good professor and I recommend only if you can afford the challenge and time involved
Frankly, Frank Lee is my least favorite professor. I took a 7:30am class so I was already a little bit tired, but having to listen to Frank drone about something I still am confused about was painful. He didn't use canvas throughout the quarter for grades, so I really didn't know what grade I had at all. VERY homework heavy too.
Professor frank is wonderful instructor and knows his stuff definitely would recommend
Good professor but he is from an Engineering background which makes it hard for him trying to help you understand certain topics. Lots of assignments and harsh grading, getting docked points for small errors. Overall a very insightful class but very hard, however, CAD portion is self-taught basically and he doesn't have much knowledge of the prog.
Frank was a great professor and would highly recommend him to anyone taking ENGR114. He definitely has an engineer's mindset which can make some explanations difficult to understand at times but always works with his students to make sure they understand it. Just do all the homework and you'll pass the class with flying colors.
This felt like a 8 credit class. Not worth it if you have an option to take something else. Tests are hard HW is hard he has NO respect for your time.
Frank Lee is a solid choice. It's important to ask specific questions to him in order to ensure a proper response. He is direct, but easy to work with outside of class as well. Tests can be hard due to the time limit. Occasional time consuming extra homework sets which made the class feel like 5-6credits. I'd take again without a problem
Hes mean and talk bad to students
Although this is a 4 credit class it definitely felt like a 6 credit class. I had to spend more time on homework for this class than my 6 credit physics class. Everything is kind of self-taught, but he introduces new concepts well. Make sure to get the work done.
I know he is the only professor that teaches for every single quarter but think carefully cuz his class is so fricking hard and too much work to do. I totally agree that his class feels like 6 credit class while it's only worth 4 credits. If you are planning on taking this with another 6 credit class, it's gonna ruin your GPA.
Felt like an eight credit class. Horrible professor.
Good lectures and exam questions are reasonable, nothing that wasn't covered in class, if you do the homework and the recommended problems you will absolutely do good on the exam. Be prepared to study lots
Take engineering elsewhere. The class is listed as 4 credits but feels like 6-8 credits and directions are obscure. Read the text thoroughly as he explains little in comparison. The CAD portion is completely self-taught and in office hours, he answers questions with questions instead of explaining the thinking process; I felt stupid and incapable.
I legit feel like I have learned nothing. Even in a class with 18 people asking questions he just dances around them and doesn't answer or ever tell you what to do. He grades everything heavily and gives little to no instruction for every assignment. This class is required for a ENGR AA and since he is the only teacher if you fail go switch majors.
This should be a 6 credit class, so plan for that. A TON of work for no reason. "teaches" by posting YouTube videos from like 2013 and is extremely rude and condescending if you don't understand and ask questions during the class time or if you submit a request for an office hour. I stopped answering / asking questions after the first 2 weeks.
Saw the reviews, but gave him a chance as he's the only option for ENGR at BC. Look elsewhere. Day one, asked a question and before finishing, received "You can try to build a house with an axe". Disrespectful and demeaning responses are the theme of the class. Additionally, you can expect ALOT of assignments and grade reductions anywhere possible.
Basically as hands-off as a professor can possibly be. The self-study material has nothing to do with the way he wants you to solve hw/test problems, but neither do the lectures. The class is definitely doable, but be prepared for an extremely boring, tedious, and helpless 11 weeks. Quickly gave up on trying based on how un-engaging the class was.
Professor provided material and spent most of the quarter following videos online. It was easy to understand. For the last couple weeks, it got really confusing, but we were hardly tested on the confusing part as that came at the end of the quarter. I didn't go to any lectures. Good class for self-studiers.
Totally hate this class. You need above 95% to get an A, nearly impossible to get since tests are weighted heavily (85% of your overall grade!!) Homeworks are challenging and long. Very bad at helping, literally give you an attitude when you ask questions. Very unclear group projects. You have to figure everything out on your own. Its terrible.
He really disappointed me when I was asking questions about the material. I decided to drop the class after he told me that I would not get into the University of Washington based on the bad grade that I got in my first exam. Everything is fine however, I am currently attending at the University of Michigan studying Aerospace Engineering.
The class was hard, and the professor wasn't the best, but he does understand and knows what he is talking about, but doesn't interpret it well
Professor Lee was super great! He is very knowledgeable and kind. The grade was very dependent on exam scores (85%), but exams were fairly reasonable if you did homework. There was a group project at the end of the quarter. Some extra credit in the assignment category.
I found Frank Lee to be a nice person, he likes what he is teaching, and that is contagious. Unfortunately, the content in the class is large and hard to stomach, and I found myself staying up late to get things done. This class felt more like a 7 credit course rather than a 4 credit course. Advice is to practice! Class is reliant on old videos.
Bellevue College should hire more engineering teachers. Frank Lee is the only one there, so he can do whatever he wants. 85.7% based on 2 midterms and 1 final exam. 14.3% based on online homeworks on Pearson and 2 work assignments. Those homeworks are a lot, and they are not worth our time. Heavy on the exam. If you want a good grade, change school
Grading scales are bullshit. A lot of online homework, but worth 14%. Wasting time and effort. More than 85% based on 3 exams. If you get at least 70% on 3 exams and full credit on online homeworks. You just get 74% GPA at the end. He expect this class is supper easy so everyone can get 100% easily. ((70*3)/300)*85+14=74%
Frank is good professor and is able to convey difficult concepts but if confused and ask him for help, he answers in a condescending manner sometimes. His grading is harsh as his exams are 85% of your grade. His online homework at least does a good job of exam preparation so top that off with online videos from Prof Jeff Hanson and you'll be fine.
Overall a good professor, with a few drawbacks. Sometimes his direct feedback can seem abrasive, but the intent is good. He teaches the material well, but also generally expects students to "get it" quickly. More time practicing / studying will directly correlate with a higher grade. Tests are very reasonable and fair, as long as you studied.
Just some advice for you coming from a guy who took basically all the engr classes w frank: Do not cheat on the homework, you will get bad grades on the exams. There is no getting around this, you are probably not a genius and you will only truly learn the content if you practice it in the homework, and go to office hours w questions.
Be prepared to study outside of class, if you do you'll do great in this class. He cares most about if you understand the general topics that he teaches rather than you getting the right answer every time. Gives extra credit opportunities in optional homework sets and problems. Large majority of class is exams so lock in.
