Mr. Mayhew is FANTASTIC!!!! His class is fun, entertaining, and EASY! He gives reviews for tests, and will work with you if you need it. I love, love, love this teacher! If you can, take him!!!
Mayhew is a good teacher, but comes off as a hard teacher. As long as you do your papers, and the work for class you will pass. He gives you all the questions that will be on the test in a review, and he gives credit for other things. He is a great teacher.
Mr. Mayhew is awesome!! I hated history before I took his class. All you have to do is the assignments, which are simple, and review for the exam, which he gives you. He makes history fun and interesting he is one of my favorite professors!
Awesome teacher, scary at first, just to show you whos boss. But really nice after that. Love the class. Always gives reviews, and dicusses questions in class. Willing to help you.
Professor Mayhew is by far the best teacher I have had, HS or College. He says what he means and means what he says. He has a different style of teachng, but it is highly effective.
HE'S REALLY COOL AND FUNNY AND AN EXTREMELY GOOD TEACHER. HE MAKES HISTORY COME ALIVE. THE ONLY ISSUE WITH HIM IS THAT HE WILL KICK YOU OUT OF HIS CLASS IF YOU COME UNPREPARED WHICH IS KINDA HIGH-SCHOOLISH/JUNIOR HIGHISH.
This was a super easy history class. Prof Mayhew lays down the law from the very start - just be sure to keep up with your work and dont talk or he might kick you out of class. He gives a full review before each test. He even lets you complete the written part of the tests at home. There are two short essays and 4 tests total. Easy A.
Very passionate about teaching, Great teacher, easy to understand and if you do your one little assignment every week, you are good to go.
I took a summer history 1301 class with Mayhew at CCCCD. You have to write 3 essays every week outside of class and they are due the day of the exam (which is 80 questions long) plus a final essay which has guidelines that are much longer of course. You also have to read everything out of the book and answer questions. its hard but he gives A's
Took Mayhew for Summer II...Got an A! Some work involved, but if you do it you'll get an A. Highly suggest you take him if you want an A!!!
I took hin Summer II also. I agree if you are willing to work hard u will not have a problem. COME TO CLASS PREPARED and you will be fine. He made history enjoyable. It seemed like he knew G.W, T.J. personally :)!!! Would take him again
This class is an easy A. Just study the review which is exactly like the test and you'll be fine. There are essay questions due the day of the test but I always did them the day before and did just fine. He really loves historl and makes the class enjoyable. I'm taking him again for my next history class.
One of THE BEST teachers that Collin County has! I took him for two different classes and have urged all my friends to do the same as well. Not only does he have a passion for history and teaching- he is a really down-to-earth guy. His class is harder to fail than it is to pass!
Gives reviews before the Exams which are extremely helpful :)
I would HIGHLY recommend Prof. Mayhew to anyone interested in History. Not only does he have a lot of knowledge on the subject but he conveys it to his students in such a way that you wish he taught other subjects in college. Prof. Mayhew is just that awesome!
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!! do NOT take this teacher! He is anal about the simplist things. does not give any extra credit at all. if he did something wrong he will blame it on the student. stay away from taking this teacher for histoty!
Really GREAT professor. Do not listen to the person below me, this professor is one of the best professors Collin College has. Professor has a lot of knowledge of history and involves student in the class. Tests are almost exactly like the review, so it's not really hard. You will learn a lot and it's an easy A. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
Professor Mayhew was wonderful! His method of teaching was informative, interactive, and challenging. The key to passing this class is taking notes and DOING THE ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME. I highly recommend him, especially if History is your area of interest and if you want to be challenged :]
Professor Mayhew is a GREAT professor. I took him for Hist 1302 and after that I thoroughly enjoyed him that I decided to retake my History 1301 and get a better grade with Professor Mayhew. He is strict about his rules. NUMBER 1 rule no talking while he is talking. Do your questions assigned, and the essay questions and study for tests. Earned A
I loved this class and I HATE history. He made it fun and easy. Tests are almost identical to the review. Do the chapter question for discussion and the review and you wont get kicked out of class. Is strict on his rules. Questions are not difficult. Not many options for extra credit & two simple papers to write. Easy Class if you show up!
Prof Mayhew is a very nice man who wants you to succeed. Will get off topic occasionally and rant, but you'll learn a lot in his class. My only gripe is I had a minor formatting error on the only paper we wrote, and he gave me a 50. No comments on the actual content of the paper, just the formatting. So pay attention to the formatting guidelines!
Prof. Mayhew was awesome. Best teacher I've had next to my high school US history teacher. I'm a history major and I learned ALOT! Take Prof. Mayhew if you want an easy A. Just study the review and do the essays - you'll be fine. (Also for an extremely, extremely easiest A you'll ever get, take Prof. Keith Eppich with General Anthropology 2346)
I took this professor for 1301 and 1302, he takes high interest in students and enjoys talking with them even if they are no longer in the class. He is crystal clear in teaching and makes learning history fun! I had no interest or knowledge of history prior to this class. Take him, you wont regret it.
He was an overall easy teacher. He is very strict on his papers so follow his directions or ask for help if you don't understand. His reviews are exactly like his tests. I got away with great grades by studying for only one hour. He is a great teacher.
EASY A! Just go to class and study his test reviews. The test have the exact same inforation as the exam. Each test requires you to do 3 essays before hand, but if you go to class you can get all the info you need for these from his lectures. Great teacher! Will take again for History 1302
HE IS A GREAT HISTORY TEACHER.WILL TEACH YOU FUN THINGS ABOUT FAMOUS PEOPLE THRU HISTORY.TESTS ARE MC AND COME FROM REVIEW SHEET.EACH QUESTION ON REVIEW WILL BE A QUESTION ON THE TEST.TWO TERM PAPERS-PRETTY EASY JUST MAKE SURE # OF LINES AND FORMAT IS CORRECT.HATED HISTORY B4 HIM.3 ESSAY Q'S ON TEST BUT U DO THEM B4 THE TEST AND TURN THEM IN.
I loved this class with Professor Mayhew! Everything was explained so well, his study guides are so helpful to prepare you for the exams and I just enjoyed being in this class so much! I am planning on taking Frank Mayhew for HIST 1302 as well :)
Professor Mayhew is an awesome professor who really loves his job. You will really enjoy his class and if you will show up on the review day and study the review you will do great. I wish I could take him again I enjoyed his class so much. You will hear LOTS of stories, and he is a really funny old man who loves to engage his students. Take him!!!
Mayhew is a great professor who loves history. He does a great job of keeping it interesting and clear to understand. Tests and essays have clear instructions with very clear and reasonable expectations. Great class if you struggle with history! :)
Mayhew is awesome! There were 4 tests and 2 essays. He gives a review the day before the test that is almost the same as the test. The two essays are easy; all you have to do is follow the format he wants and you'll get full credit. I don't even think he reads them; he just counts the lines. I plan on taking him for 1302. Take him! :)
His reviews are exactly like the test which makes it easy to study. However, I started not to like him when he gave the class all zeros for not formatting the papers right..that wasn't much of the issue but his reasoning behind it was to "prepare us for REAL college." I've graduated from a university and professors dont care that much about format.
terrible teacher gave out a 30 page paper 4 days before it was due . too much work and talked endlessly about trains
This teacher is amazing. If you do the work and do the reviews you will have not problem getting an easy A. I hate history but he made it very interesting. At first he seemed very mean but it was by far who he is. He wants respect and gives it back.
Very rude. He yells at you and kicks you out of class if you get the wrong answer even after he explains that there's "no wrong answer" His grading is very weird. If you get lucky, you'll get an A.
Study his reviews. (they are just like the test) And follow his guidelines for his papers and you'll do well. Also, do his chapter outlines or he will kick you out of class. All in all, he was a wonderful teacher. I made an A.
5 exams. 2 papers; FYI make sure you follow his directions or else it's a 0, no exceptions. Make sure you answer the discussion items on blackboard or you'll be kicked out. The review is the test, but you have to write 3 essays and turn them in on test day. Aslo make sure the review is completed or else he'll send you to the library to complete it.
This guy rocks! He is very funny and very knowledgeable. He will assign you to a group and you are responsible for answering ONE question. He doesn't throw you OUT for having the wrong answer. You r thrown out if you do NOT answer your question, Lol. Very approachable & interesting. Do the work and you will PASS!
loved him, can wait for his next class
Great teacher, he loves what he does. As long as you do what you are required to do you should have no problems. Easy to talk to and willing to help. TIP: follow his directions for all writing assignments to the "T" and go to the writing center for help if you are unsure.
I really enjoyed the class! Mr. Mayhew is very knowledgeable about the subject and really likes what he does. I would recommended his class for sure!
Professor Mayhew was a great Teacher... I took his History class in the Summer for my Bachelors... He made an uninteresting class very interesting... He gives fair grades, and as long as you do your work and study you won't have a problem passing... He is very helpful and will go the extra mile to help you do your best...
I'm a very visual person, so I didn't do well in the class. He lectures the entire time. Very strict on term papers. Must follow guidelines EXACTLY or you will not receive credit. A very laid back person and easy to talk to. Personally, I would not take him again.
Professor Mayhew is the best History Professor. Honestly! He makes the learning process fun and interesting. I have learned so much from him about U.S History. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. Yes he does have strict paper guidelines, but they are easy to complete if you are a focused learning.
Fantastic professor. I have taken him twice and would continue to take him as his passion shows and I've never been more interested in history. Only con is he will embarrass you if you fail to give an answer to the class about some daily/weekly reading material from the book, but that doesn't matter as any answer is good to him-- even if wrong.
Best professor ever. History is not my subject, but he is so clear about explaining and his test reviews are helpful. MAKE SURE YOU GET ONE. He'll also go over the exams with you if you aren't happy with your grade and show you what need the most work in. Really wants you to do well, but won't hold your hand - just tells you what you need to do.
Absolutely fantastic professor. He cares deeply about history but more so about his students. He has his rules, but follow them and do the work and you will get good grades. He brings laughter to the classroom which is a great way to learn. He is not into a lot of date memorization but wants you to understand the people of the time.
Professor Mayhew is the best professor that I have had, so far at Collin. He is professional and passionate about the lesson and his students learning. He really made me develop a great appreciation for History. He truly made me look forward to attending class and listening to his lectures. I will miss being in his class. Thanks, Professor Mayhew!
Mayhew was the best history teacher I've ever had. I hate history, but his class wasn't boring. He LOVES history and knows a lot. Make sure you get his review before the test. Everything on the test comes from the review. No reason not to make an a in this class unless you forget to turn in an essay like I did. :) I would def take him again.
He really loves what he does and is knowledgeable! He relates the facts to personal life stories (helped me remember!) The homework counted as extra credit (DO IT), the exam review is a necessity, the 2 papers arent bad if you follow the formatting to the letter, and the tests arent too bad if you simply study well.Favorite teacher of the semester!
professor mayhew is the best ever, at first he may appear intimidating but he is cool and he loves teaching. was my first time learning about american history and he made it enjoyable
Mayhew is a great professor, you can tell how passionate he is about what he does. Expect to discuss and participate in his class. As long as you do the (easy) assignments and participate, there's no way you can fail.
Professor Mahew has a unique way of teaching that draws you in, and makes you even more curious about historical events. His test reviews are very helpful, because they have all the answers. All you have to do to earn the answer sheet is answer your own copy of the review then swap it for his, then compare your answers. Easy! You'll enjoy him.
let me say this, i took all three of his classes he offered and made A's in all three. Easy classes!! just study the review and do your essays like he wants and there is no way you cant make an A. Highly recommend
Very simple class if you do the work. There are discussion questions you must have prepared before class but they come straight from the book. 5 exams total and 2 essays. Reviews are exactly like the exams. He is a great professor and offers great opportunities for extra credit. You will pass easily if you follow the syllabus!
Professor Mayhew is AWESOME! He makes this class as interesting as he can and will always give you a chance to get extra credit! Loved him! awesome professor who loves his students and what he does! TAKE HIM!!!
Best History professor ever. I wasn't looking forward to taking history until I took Professor Mayhew's class. He is passionate about history and it shows. He is clear and straight to the point so there is no mistake in what has to be done. I am taking history 1302 with him in the fall!!
By far my favorite teacher ever! And so handsome! ;) He turns a boring history class into something interesting by lecturing the stories he has experienced as well as those stories of which have been passed on to him, making history feel more real instead of just memorizing dates and names.
Took during summer 1 and class was full constantly, very straightforward with homework, just do them they help you on tests. He hands out reviews before the tests to help you pass the exams. Textbook was a must I believe since all the homework came from there.
He was an awesome teacher
Don't take him if you're lazy. It's not difficult to make an A in his class if you take it seriously and know how to follow simple instruction. He lays everything out for you. His lectures are very interesting and he cares about helping you if you are serious. Wish I could x-fer with him to university. One of the best I ever had in 66 credit hrs!
I had him twice. It's upsetting that I hit my max credits for history. He is very funny sometimes. He is very good at making history interesting. You need to do your assigned question # on each chapter because he may call on you for an answer. You can print a review with blank spaces, answer the questions, and turn it in for an answer key.
I really enjoyed Professor Mayhew. He is easy to talk to and very willing to work with you to make sure you are on track. My advice would be to start working on the papers that he assigns asap and FOLLOW his directions to the letter. Participate in class and you will do fine.
Professor Mayhew has a passion for teaching and for History! This passion clearly shows up on his lectures. Tests are easy and no quizzes. Papers have specific guidelines; follow instructions and you will get an easy A.
In his class you had one paper to write from the American Heritage and during lecture he would assign you with one question and when he calls on you be prepared to answer that assigned question because if you do not he will feel that you are disrespecting him. Overall I enjoyed his class.
he is a wonderful teacher...I took him twice.
Loved his class. The tests were really easy if you studied the reviews and we only had two essay assignments. His lectures are interesting too. I wish I had taken him for HIST1301 instead of Professor Reynolds.
He cares for his student and helps you for everything. He was the best teacher I have ever had not an easy A but great professor if you are not lazy to do some homework
He is the best teacher I have ever had! (This includes highschool and college classes)
Professor Mayhew was an amazing professor! I took History 1302 from him and loved the class. I was truly sad for the semester to be over. Very clear grading guidelines, however, very strict in implementing them. However, he gives more than enough opportunities for extra credit and the tests are exactly the same as the study guides.
Mr. Mayhew is one of the worst professors I have ever had. He only gives you 3 tests, 2 papers, and a final exam as your grades in the class resulting in every score being critical. He does not read your essays and counts off a ridiculous amount of points for things such as not writing enough lines in your essay. He hands out zeroes like candy.
I loved this class. Mr. Mayhew is very nice but likes what he likes. If you do what he likes you to do you will do fine. everything is explain about how he would want his hw and papers done. He is university level teacher and expects university level work.
Professor Mayhew is a very good man. It is very obvious that he is passionate about history. He is very knowledgable on the subject of history. His top priority is to help you do well in his class. I loved listening to his stories about history. The subject can be boring but he is not boring. He gives clear directions on what he expects from you.
Professor is somewhat strict but very fair. Clearly outlines expectations. Assignments are not difficult, he expects homework completed on time with directions followed. In return he offers EC, prompt grading, and very helpful resources. Average workload. Come on people, this IS college after all; we aren't in high school anymore!
Great professor. Loved his lectures. Which I had also taken him for 1301 history. A world of difference from my other history professor. He has specific directions for how he wants his papers formatted, but if you follow directions and go to the writing center to have it checked you are golden. He prepares you for real life. He expects you to do wh
Has an obvious passion for his subject. Great professor and really funny. Be respectful and responsible and he'll like you. The exams are almost identical to the study guides so if you study you'll do well. Gives out a lot of extra credit! Love his lectures and I'm excited to take his class again.
Professor Mayhew is a great person to take! All of his exams are exactly like the review he gives you. You do have to do homework and it's easy. Just have the book and look for an answer. He doesn't care if the answer is wrong or right, he just wants an answer. He definitely knows his history and he is willing to help you if you need it.
Mayhew is a great professor. If you take his Texas history classes he adds a lot to the discussion with some cool stories. His toughest thing is his 2 Term papers, if you take them to the writing center and have them check the format, you will get 100%. His reviews are a MUST do, they are pretty much the test. Overall great professor.
Typically I struggle inhistory but with professor Mayhew I didn't he teaches straight from the textbook and as long as you pay attention in class you'll do well on quizzes and tests. He also does extra credit and gives you reviews. He is an amazing professor!!!!!!!!!!
Papers are no joke, but easy enough if you listen to lecture and just read/follow paper guidelines. Best history class so far as Prof will lecture from book and there are power point notes to go along - best part of class are is own personal input as it relates to the material! If you love history - book and living - sign up for a class of his!
I took professor Mayhew for Summer II and all I did was just copy what he put on the projected screen, print it out, study the reviews a little bit, and I passed. Easiest class I've ever taken. Did not challenge me what so ever. I'd never take a class with him again. Not worth the time and money for this grade. Take someone that's harder.
He is a tough grader on the mandatory essay. He gives you the full picture of U.S. History including tidbits of little known information. A good overall professor.
Loved his class, clear understanding of the lectures and really great structuring to the class. You will know what to expect and when to expect it. Just try and you will be ok.
Prof. Mayhew is amazing. I took the class in 2010 but I still have all my notes and assignments and reviews because there was so much information that I WANT to remember. Just do the reviews and the ONE take home question and you'll be good. I may take his class again just for the heck of it!
Amazing teacher!! He really knows his stuff. The best thing I loved was his story-telling. He's experienced quite A LOT in his time. Glad I got to take him again! One of my favorite teachers! Well-respected. 1 term paper. 4 Exams & gives you test reviews over them. The reviews are basically the test. BEST TEACHER EVER!!! Take him U won't regret it!
He is indeed very knowledgeable about history and he can be entertaining. However, he is a bit tougher for an undergraduate. In fact, he is hard to make a C in unless you are a great note taker. I study all the time and could not pass his class. I love history, but would never take him again. At times he can be a bit rude.
Professor Mayhew is a teacher that you do not want to miss. He has passion for his subject that is contagious, and will capture your attention during lectures. The class is simple and easy, but the real value lies in what relationship you choose to have with Mayhew. This is a class for people that are looking for an experience beyond just credit.
Im not a history person but this professor doesnt make things any easier. Tests are completely different than reviews, and even more so than lecture notes. My grade has been declining through the semester even though I read, study, do the reviews, and go to class. Its very frustrating.
His tests have nothing to do with what he spends the class lecturing on and he claims that the reviews are super helpful but they are not! Worst Professor I have ever had!
I really regret taking Professor Mayhew for Texas History. He simply reads off of his own copy of the notes. I am not able to keep up with him. He does not use any kind of Powerpoint presentation, so I just have to try to listen. If there is anybody else available to take for Texas History, I would strongly recommend taking them instead.
worst professor I've taken so far, goes off topic many times and doesn't explain the material AT ALL, all I've learned was him talking about quanah Parker, didn't learn any history at all, no extra credit or assignments only tests!! We had 4 exams, don't recommend taking him unless your fine with teaching yourself history
Professor Mayhew is awesome. You have to read your book and answer 5 questions from each chapter be ready to share with the class when youre called to answer, or he will send you to the hallway to do it. Test reviews are long but if you study you will pass. 4 test, 1 paper and a few pop quizzes! I recommend and would take him again!
I had this professor for TX history. He gives you fill in the blank mock test after every few chapters in the book before giving out the real test, so he's basically telling you what the test is going to be on. Is strict at first to show that he means business but as the semester goes on he loosens up. read the material and take notes.
