He's a great prof & a nice guy who really tries to make the material interesting as he has a lot of industry exp. He gives you hints on the tests/exams as well. Heavy use of the textbook and he provides lecture notes. The group assignment is fairly easy if you have a group who gets the work done. The midterm avg was low tho so make sure u study!
never went to class... there is a group project. Got a B in the course... just study the textbook and do the quizzes online they will help you out!
Great prof, and an exceptional person. Attend class and you will do good.
He's such a funny guy!!! Every class after his lectures he would show us a movie of The Apprentice to re-cap on what we just learned. He is such a nice proff, the mid term was easssssy and the final was simple too. I got an A- by just studying the textbook. This class is the reason why I'm majoring in HR right now. =)
This guy is the best MHR prof, GET HIM, just study the text book and do online quizes and you'll definitley get a B, THERE WERE NO ASSIGNMENTS! Hes super nice and easy ;)
Awesome class. Great Prof. Frank makes this class so very interesting. Quizzes & Mid-term, case project not difficult. Final exam, I found challenging. Don't study/memorize definitions instead know how to apply theory to real life situations. Lots of mini cases in the multiply choice questions. Excellent course. He's super nice and helpful. Got: A-
The ONE!
GREAT PROF!
What a prof!! smart, makes witty remarks, EXTREMELY knowledgable! does not put on quiz just definition, but incorporates them into examples: that's what university education should look like !
I enjoyed his class. If you want to pass OB, it's the teacher to go to. Just read the book and do the online quizzes. Especially the online quizzes. You can't go wrong. I recommend taking his course.
he is the best prof so far!!!
Best prof I've had so far. Isn't strict...isn't lenient to certain students. We had to do a 5 sentence paragraph on how we participated in class...I never ever participated and still got 5/5.... Just do the quizzes, read the book, go to his seminars and participate and you're good.... PS. We also watched The Apprentice almost every seminar
good man... thats all i gotta say, best guy around to have
AMAZING PROF!! it was totally worth switching into his 8am class!!fun ,laid back, and approachable. Best MHR professor to have
Awesome prof! It's too bad there's not more of them :(. Very helpful, clear and laid back approach. He keeps the class engaged by watching things like The Apprentice; would definitely recommend him to anyone in HR
He's the reason why I picked HR as my major!
He has a great approach in keeping the class engaged. We watched shows like The Apprentice, which enhanced the course overall. He is lenient in marking too.
He's really down to earth and wants everyone to pass, has alot of business experience and his midterm is cake if you just take the time to read the text, however I feel like our team should have received a higher mark on the group assignment.. he also had us watch the apprentice almost every class! Had alot of fun and would definately recommend him
I believe this course was a watse of my time. But he's a really good prof. Testing wise, pretty easy. And funny character. I would take another course with him for fun.
The best prof for this course. You learn a lot because of his experience in HR, and it doesn't even feel like class. He makes it as fun as possible by letting us watch The apprentice. I got an A - by reading the textbook (mandatory) and he hints at whats going to be on the midterm/final during class, so just be aware. Fair marker on Group project.
He has an attitude! Not the greatest.
Piece of cake! You don't even have to go to class or stay during the lectures for that matter. I believe after taking him for 2 HR courses, that he is a super easy prof! His testing is easy, group projects are marked well and the final he tells you what's on it! Overall, bravo Frank! Bravo! And oh I got an A- in both MHR405 & MHR650 with him.
If you need a professional related credit, take this course with him! It will be very interesting and easy. TRUST!
He is simply the best prof that i had over first year first semester at Ryerson. He is truly inspiring and his teaching methods are excellent! Every class we had youtube video that related to day's chapters. He makes learning fun and he makes jokes along the way. He is the best prof that I had in my first year at Ryerson!I 100% recommend this prof!
Great prof. Classes were pretty chill and he had cool stories to offer and kept the class interesting. Would definitely take another course with him again!
LOVE HIM
Contrary to all comments about him here, read so far. VERY VERY hard marker, 3 people in class we all know for sure did amazing jobs with project got c's n b- n not lenient at all with extensions to more than 4 people. 25% off/day lateness! MC on midterm seemed easy, but written part was brutal. Classes r fun,bt has trouble sticking with a topic.
Awesome teacher!
Excellent professor. Very engaging and keeps you interested and alert.
Engaging prof with lots of stories and experience. However, his marking was ridiculous. It was especially frustrating when his other MHR class (630-something) got A's for doing half the work. Maybe he was trying to get rid of the easy-marker reputation, but he did so at the expense of students who worked hard for nothing.
AMAZING!!!! His classes are so much fun! He is a tough marker, but if you do the work and do it well you will get a good grade
BEST BRO, TAKE HIM TO UP YOUR MARKS. MAKE SURE YOUR THE ONE THAT EDITS THE ASSIGNMENTS BEFORE HANDING IT IN AND CALL OUT THEM FOIGS IF THEY FAIL TO PRODUCE QUALITY WORK. BOTTOMLINE 1 MAN ARMY, DON'T RELAY ON YOUR GROUPMATES FOR ANY GROUP ASSIGNMENTS. JUST WRITE THERE PARTS AS WELL, CARRY BRAH THATS HOW YOU OBTAIN MAXIMUM MARKS. LIKE A BOSS BIG FOIG
Great teacher! Gets you interested in the lecture and a very funny guy. However, you MUST read the book before going into his class or else you won't understand a thing. Also, his assignments are marked fairly.
Frank is a great professor and communicator! He makes class interactive and fun, which is hard to do. He is a funny guy as well. In terms of the assignments, he is a fair marker. Group assnmt was marked harder tho... Attendance to seminar is required but I got a 5/5 even though I missed a couple of days!
By far one of the best profs I have had at Ryerson. Frank is extremely engaging and brings tons of knowledge and experience to every lecture. He does his best to keep the class interested and makes learning enjoyable. He is a very fair marker and is also very helpful if help is needed. Definite recommendation! Great Prof!
One of the best proffs i have ever had. Need to attend class because the excersises you do and case discusions are on final exam (you get a crib sheet too :)easy midterm and two small assignments. Overall great guy and a fun class.
He is a very experienced good professor and engaging. His class is fun too. However, he is a very very VERY tough marker, and his assignments are hard. As for the mid term, the MCQ was easy but the essay questions were too sophisticated and hard to know what does he exactly want. Studying from the text very well is a must! It's not an easy course.
He tends to make anything that should be easy "COMPLICATED". All his assignments and exams are very complicated, and even when you think you did your best, he gives you the most horrible mark ever! I got A in all my courses except for his course.
Very very very nice guy. However, very hard marker and test content was also hard
Kind man, very professional and well educated in the HR profession. I surely did enjoy his classes and would recommend him to anybody who is taking an MHR course. He is very fair in terms of grading. Knowledge and application of the content and theories is very critical in this course.
Exams are super easy. Not bad on the eyes ;)
Easily one of the best profs at Ryerson. Speaks very clearly and likes to joke around with the class as well. He's also an easy and lenient marker when it comes to the case studies as well as tests. Classes were pretty fun as there were activities geared toward the course content. Overall, great prof and fairly easy class. I recommend taking it.
One of my most memorable professors. Great individual with an experienced background in human resource management. Very pleasant to speak to both during or after class hours.
I was really excited to take his class because of ratemyprof reviews. I made a BIG mistake by giving him benefit of doubt. He wants students to participate and when they do he rolls his eyes and gives back a really bad sarcastic comment in front of the whole class. He is two faced i know everyone in class felt this way about him too. AVOID HIM!!!!!
Frank is such a good prof! He makes everything so much clearer and easier to understand and he also jokes around a lot so it makes the class fun! Would definitely recommend him
Amazing professor, ones of the best at Ryerson. His exams aren't easy but also not hard. The MC was from book the case study/short answer are similar to ones he takes up in class. There are marks for participation so attendance is a must. I definitely recommend him!
The lectures are interesting at times, but Frank really does help students out. The course is fairly easy if you study from the textbook. If you follow his guidelines for the assignment you should do fairly well in the course.
Great professor but very very VERY hard marker. The first quiz was an easy 80 but the midterm and the assignments are quite challenging.
Frank was one of the most inspiring and reasonable professors I have ever had. He is so knowledgeable and experienced in and passionate about his field. Understanding, on-time and organized. My recommendations: Don't miss the joy of being in his classes. Not too easy material but easy enough if you honestly study. He is truly fair.
Very difficult marker and made the midterm and final hard for no reason at all. I am a straight A student, and only managed to leave his class with a B+. He marked the 20% Group project very hard and many groups did poorly. He does a poor job of giving feedback on assignments. Going to lectures is useless because you have to study the text. Avoid.
He was a really good professor, but a very tough grader on assignments and case studies. Still a good prof, learned a lot
Frank is a great seminar professor for the class. With his industry experience in Human Resources, Frank knows OB inside and out. He's probably one of the few industry hires that can actually teach something useful to students. Frank is a fair marker; you just have to try on the assignments.
Frank Miller is one of my favorite profs at Ryerson. He really interacts with the students and wants them all to do well. He is very knowledgeable, you will be test on his slides and some textbook. His midterm, assignments and marking are very fair. Provides detailed help on what he is expecting. Not afraid to give out 100%'s. Participation 5%
He marks the assignments fairly but he was a tough grader on the final project. He goes over important concepts that are essential to writing and passing the final exam so go to class!
He is very fair marker, and you will surely get the mark you deserve. So hard work definitely pays off with him. He's a very funny man, which made a 3 hour lecture actually fun. I always looked forward to attending his class. Genuinely wonderful man. I would take another course with him.
Prof is funny and easy going. Participation matters as 5% of your mark is based on it. The quiz and mid term were both tricky and difficult. The individual reflection paper was easy. The group project was marked hard. And the exam was both fair and difficult.
One of the best profs at Ryerson! Would take again if I get the opportunity!!
Don't bother going to class. The class is not easy as he doesn't teach it well. Spend the 3 hours at the library reading the book and learning the terms. The midterm was generic MC questions and short answer. The exam was essay questions only where you need to know HR Planning terms. Read the cases he posts. I've had him for 405 before he was great
Good teacher, uses lots of humour to get you through the lecture. Tries to break the silence of all the gloomy, inattentive students who are more concerned about their "Insta" feed. Generally lets you out an hour early. Gives you pretty average marks. Walks around and doesn't use monotone. Great real world examples and refers to his own experience.
he's amazing. didn't try as hard as i should have but ended up with a A-. best 849 prof ever cause yap would rip your soul out. bravo.
Easy class, got an A. Should go to every class, he gives exam hints and all the hints were on the exam. Midterm and Final are very easy. Only thing is the group project, make sure you get a good group, he marks tough on it. The presentation should be creative, you get perfect for it if the presentations are interactive and creative.
Lectures are both informative and incredibly funny. He seems to have some magical formula to keep students interested. He explains the course concepts in crystal-clear details backed up with concrete examples. Tests are average in terms of difficulty. He grades fairly but the handwriting for feedback can be tough to read. Strongly recommended.
Frank was a great prof! The class content wasn't my favourite but he made lectures interesting and fun to go to class. You cannot rely on powerpoints to get a good mark because tests are specific but the powerpoints are helpful!
Frank is a really fun and inspirational professor. He is very engaging during the lectures, but he does expect the class to do the readings, so make sure you do so. The two midterms and finals are decent, not too hard or easy. He really does care about students and making sure everyone understands the concepts.
He is a hard prof. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Overrated !
Avoid at all costs. Not too friendly in one-on-one meetings. Really tough marker. Cannot just study off of his slides. He barely touches upon topics in class, just enough to give the bare understandings. You really have to understand the concepts in detail from the book.
He's a good Prof in that his lectures are interactive and he explains things well, but he doesn't cover all of the course material in class, you need to read the book. He grades pretty tough and you need to know the material really well to do well in his exams and assignments.
He is a funny teacher but doesn't cover any of the concepts that'll be on the midterm or final. You will have to read the book and self teach the course to yourself which isn't an easy thing as theres never a right or wrong answer in HR. You will have to purely memorize the textbook. Wouldn't recommend him.
Frank is a great prof. His exams are very fair and if you go to class you'll get a good grade. Would highly recommend him!
Lectures: Funny w/ relevant anecdotes. Don't miss b/c a lot of info on midterm & exam. Average 2.5 hrs long. Reading: Max 2 chaps per week. Group work: 1 essay. Midterm: Beware of M/C. Prof: Approachable. Helpful. Ask for help & you'll get it! Very experienced in field. Tech: A-OK to bring. Participation: Encouraged.
This class was not enjoyable due to the subject matters nature. It includes a lot of reading and team work related with simulation game which is hard to describe due to the blurry requirements of the assignment. The sense of humor of our professor just added more unprofessional feeling to the class. The final assignment case study was sooo long!
he is an experienced and inspirational Professor. He cares about students and making sure everyone understand the concepts.
He is an amazing guy ! VERY funny and makes an 8 AM class enjoyable. He is very knowledgeable and a fair marker, he just wants you to understand the concepts and he will give you perfect marks. One case study, a midterm, an online stimulation + report and presentation. Very approachable.
Frank is an amazing professor, his teaching style and humor make his classes enjoyable. He is straight forward on his expectations and wants you to succeed by showing you know the material.
Frank is a good professor, his classes are enjoyable and fun even though the course content may not be the best or most interesting. His midterms aren't difficult as long as you study.
He's a great lecturer, I absolutely loved going to his classes because he's so funny. The only disappointment with him is that he's a pretty tough grader. You'll be under the assumption that you're doing well in his class until you actually get back your grades. You really need to work for your mark.
He is a great professor and very knowledgeable in the field of HR. You have to take him once in your 4 years journey at Ryerson. He can at times come off as intimidating, but thumbs down,he is an amazing professor.
Frank is a great prof who does his very best to be both comical and informative. The course concepts are easy to understand and should be an easy A. There was a paper, group project/presentation, midterm and final. If you show up, follow the readings you will get an A for sure. Frank is a great guy if you don't mind his wacky humor!!!
Definitely a prof that I'd recommend. He was both entertaining and knowledgable about the course information. His lectures were something to look forward to. I'd recommend reading the textbook to emphasize on the material - tests & exams were multiple choice heavy.
This is a hard course but Frank is a good person to take it with. He is very knowledgeable with the subject matter and gives good lectures. Get a good group and be prepared to write for the whole final exam.
Really hard marker. Have to write a lot on tests. Heavy memorizing and wants textbook answers. So be prepared to write word for word what you memorize. For presentation, memorize what your going to say, dress in business clothes, make your PPT amazing OR you WONT get a good mark!! You whole group has to do this. All of you have to give 110%
He's such an impossible marker! Our class average was so low while everyone in the other class got Bs. There's no way you can do well on his tests or exam unless you literally memorize the ENTIRE textbook. Impossible! He has such high expectations for the group presentation as well. Wanted everyone to memorize and not read from even cue cards....
Hard marker...
Frank makes an effort to make class interesting and engaging for students. This course wasn't the easiest, the midterm was very long, lots of writing and mc so make sure you pace yourself. Make sure to get a good group for the group paper, he expects high-quality work for that. The final was a lot of writing but very fair!
Very good prof
Great prof, especially if you are in first or second year. Good at explaining concepts, however doesn't cover all the info that on the tests, in his powerpoints. Don't have to show up to class, could just read the textbook. Give hints for what's on tests and final exam. Found he marked fair
Miller's an amazing prof, he tries to get students to engage in the class and has quite the humor as well. MHR405 as a course is dry as hell and he makes it somewhat bearable. However, if u really wanna do well in this class it'd be best to memorize terms and theories.
Frank is truly knowledgeable in HR, and he makes his lectures worth going. I would recommend if you want to do good on the final exam and the essay, to attend his lectures after the first midterm, as they are the most important ones. Make sure you read the textbook or else you may not do good in this class. Frank makes everything easy to understand
Good prof, cares about his students
Cares about his students and makes the lectures intuitive and bearable considering the dry content this course has.
Frank is a very caring professor. If you go to class, he gives hints on what to focus on for the midterms and final. He makes a lot jokes and loves interacting with students making the class enjoyable.
One of my fav profs. He knows his stuff and helps his students in everyday. Go to every class because he drops hints about the midterm and final. Midterm and Final was easy. with this prof you can get an easy A.
He's a good professor but he marks hard on assignments and the final exam.
Amazing guy, very funny and nice. He makes the topics interesting and easy to understand. Currently in the middle of the semester so I can't speak about the final exam yet. But d he is one of my favourite professors and seems like a genuine professor that wants you to learn and do well. He is very specific in what to study & what he is looking for
This prof was honestly by far one of the best I've had at Ryerson. His 8 am lectures were great because he had so much energy and was enthusiastic about teaching. He was also really funny, but a tough grader. He wanted specific things but you get what you put in with this course.
My absolute favourite. Fair and a good teacher, I wish all my classes were with him. He's funny, honest and makes you actually want to come to class. Enjoyed every lecture.
midterms are easy if you read the textbook, but marks hard for the short answer and essay component. If you want to email him about him something, don't because you will get a lot of sass lol
For a boring course, Frank gets the job done. He's a funny prof and tries to engage his students during lectures. For his 2 tests, you need to read the textbook to do well because his slides doesn't cover everything and his tests could be a bit tricky. He also marks hard on the assignment. Final exam was fair. Not an easy course. Finished with A-
One of the best HR profs at Ryerson. He is very engaging and knows a lot about what he teaches. There is no way anyone can do bad in his class unless you truly do not put in effort. I would definitely take this prof again if he taught other HR courses. Easier than MHR 405 & less reading after the midterm.
Great at lectures, but a hard marker
I would take his class again if it was not for marks. The 2 tests (both mc) were kinda difficult but the final was fair (multiple choice and short answers). Pay attention to his instructions for the assignment as he's looking for specific things. I enjoyed his lectures and he is so inspiring. Do the reading, and come to class since he gives hints
Frank makes OB interesting and helps you see how it actually works and is applied to the workplace. Found it challenging to get good marks, but MHR lectures were a bright spot during a hard semester. Listen in class, as he will hint at what's to come for the midterm and final.
Frank always does his very best to explain concepts in a way that will be understood by everyone while adding humour in his lectures. He doesnt read off from the slides but rather draws from real-life experiences/events to elaborate which becomes really useful since a lot of his tests contain application questions & less on definitional qs.
Dont bother emailing this guy about mark boosts because he will just give you a lot of backlash for the grade you received. Very tough grade dont expect anything amazing on the individual assignment highly recommend switching out to another prof
frank miller use to be the best. Hes now EXTREMELY tough, and makes you go the extra mile to get the grade. Even if you write what the question asks, you still have to do more. Hes a HARD marker especially on group projects. And hes completely unsympathetic. In class hes funny but outside, hes mean and insensitive. Avoid.
dont take this class or any class with him. One of the toughest markers, let alone, does not compromise with students. Does not care what life commitments and issues you face on a day to day basis, will still not sympathize and feel for you what so ever. Never again.
I am not sure why there are negative reviews about Frank. He is literally one of the best professors at Ryerson. His midterm and final was no surprise if you attended class. He makes the course lively and explains concepts clearly. He needs to teach more HR courses. Also, he is not a tricky marker. I would recommend taking any course with him.
Frank is a good prof. He likes to do case studies with breakout groups and tries his best to engage the class during lectures. I found him to be extremely nice too as he's always engaging with the class during lectures. He does make you write a lot but the material he teaches isn't bad at all in my opinion. Take if you can.
He has a great sense of humour and is nice. He doesn't record lectures, so attend them, especially for group activities, which can potentially be on the midterm/final (drops hints). Textbook can be found online/recommended. He answers emails quickly. Major complaint is his exams, which are long answer and SINGLE-spaced, so get ready to write.
In the midst of a pandemic, he was able to improve my learning and make the most of the situation. 100% recommend.
If u have the option of being instructed by Frank, YOU MUST TAKE HIS CLASS. you would be taught by a tremendously accomplished expert in the field. His lectures are fantastic and the examinations and group project are quite easy. Don't miss this opportunity. He could very well be the one teacher that sparks the academic fire in you.
I don't know how this course is in real life... but online it's a different case. Two major parts of your grade come from the midterm and final which are case studies with 10+ questions all short answers (both add up to 75% in weight). Make sure to do decent on midterm because on Final.. it was brutal would add more to say but characters :( .
Great prof, really understanding.
hes so lame for that final he should at least be straight up and say the final is going to be f*cking crazy instead he lies and says its going to be easy most fake prof ever!!!!
One of the best profs I had this semester, had him for an 8AM but he made it enjoyable. Gives you hints about what will be on the exams overall really nice and helpful prof!
He is not a fair marker. Not very helpful or understanding. Good luck to whoever takes him. He plays favorites with a hint of bluntness in his personality. Would not recommend for any class.
