Hes an ok teacher if you like learning by yourself. Doesn't help you on papers and other students grade your papers, even though sometimes they don't know whats going.
If your looking for a fun exciting class look else where. It hell on earth.

Mr. Mixson is a great teacher! He is always there to help, if you are interested in learning and willing to work. My writing skills have improved immensely from taking his class.
I've had Prof. Mixson for two classes. I think he's an excellent teacher, if you really care about the class. Yeah, sometimes his assignments are a pain, but I left his class much better at the skills we discussed than when I started. Highly recommended, if you are serious about his class.

I dropped Mixon's class twice but am going back for a third round because although I didn't do too well in the class, I could honestly say that he did teach me a LOT. Yeah, it might seem like he drinks one too many beers the night before lecture, but this class will bring out the best in you. (for those who are actually in college to LEARN)

he doesn't try to make his class easy, and it's not. it is, however, one of the most interesting classes you will ever take. also, his writing system is still the backbone of every paper i write. you WILL leave his class a better writer.

Anyone who says Mixson is anything but great is just one of the dumbasses that had to take his class over b/c they don't understand the structure of an essay. He is the best teacher and my favorite. He’s very thought provoking teacher - always made class interesting. Although he does give a lot of work, it's not too overwhelming. As long as you keep up, you'll do good.
He was a wonderful teacher and he is very skillful. Not to mention he was smoking hot especially for an older guy. He really knows his stuff. Even if it is your first english lit class he really breaks down everything for you in an organized way. He is so good and anyone that says he was horrible it just proves that not everyone is smart enough to read. That is all you do in his class. That is the hardest part and also keeping notes. Reading and notes. Wow that is so hard- note the sarcasm in my writing.
Mixson is a great instructor, he knows what he is doing and teaching. I am amazed at his teaching skills. He teaches you as how to understand the structure of an essay, even though he does give much homework, the practice is worth it, because after you complete his class, your writing improves from a one percent to a 7- percent. I would compare his standards to how the military holds their standards, they're very clearly marked and absolutely unchanging, if you do it you'll do great, if not your screwed. This is a great instructor. He ensures you have the basics of writing a well structured and smooth flowing paper. He gave me the skills i need now in completing my masters degree. Tough grader, but you're guaranteed to walk out a good writer. Most importantly, you will lose your fear of writing.

I took this teacher for english 100,102,103 and would take another class with him just for the fun of it. He is a strict grader and has a true desire to help his students excel. He is an inspirational teacher and doesn't like slackers.

This is my third consecutive semester with professor Mixson, and I am taking him again next semester. He is an amazing teacher and anyone who disagrees was with me was just too lazy to do the work. I took Mixson's Shakespeare class in my first semester in college. He was pretty intimidating, but after a while he just wants to push you as an individual. A LOT OF READING, but if you enjoy it, it won't be a problem. Helpful to discuss the reading with classmates before class. Thats the only reason why I'm getting A's on my quiz. haha. B+ Teacher

Granted, I dropped his class because I couldn't keep up; however, he is a pusher & requires an utmost effort from his students. He's kinda scary & uber strict but he seeks for the best. Don't take this class if you're not willing to bust your ass off. it's imperative that you read & ask questions. I wish I could have kept up.
Professor Mixson is a hard-ass. But he will teach and force you to use your brain to analyze the data you received. If you are a weak student who doesn't like to show up for class or do reading, his class is not for you. If you enjoy a challenge and a real professor, enroll in his class. You wont regret it.
AWESOME! If you want to be a better writer and student take him! After two classes with him I feel like I'm at the level of any UC student. He really toughens you up. You will never be the same student after his classes if you work hard. As long as you are willing to work for your grade he will give you all the help you need. MAKE SURE YOU READ!!!!
I took an American Literature class with Professor Mixson some time ago, and from what I can remember he was and has been the most intimidating Professor I have ever met. However, Mixson is one of the few Professors that cares about your success as a student and person overall. He is smart and a silver fox, and I am so glad to have met him :-)
Mixson is one the the few profesors that strive for his students success. He taught me in two semesters what I should have learned in high school. Takes effort in a students part but he is 100% effective.

Grade is based on daily quizzes. You MUST READ to pass his class. His lectures are very interesting, and he makes his students better critical thinkers. He has a good sense of humor, and he strives to build confidence in his students. He always acknowledges his students. Do not be afraid to be wrong in his class, he appreciates the effort.

Best professor in the world! Although his midterms and final exam is to write 9 paragraphs in 2 hrs, and you have quizzes every class meet, I would take his class all over to continue my good working habits. Your grade is based on a daily quiz. His midterm is very straightforward if you kept up with the reading and paid attention during class. He is very helpful and nurtures good study habits. I recommend taking him.

Mr Mixson is a great teacher. He organizes the information well, he is clear about his expectations, and he is passionate about the material he is teaching. This is not an easy class, you actually have to put the work in, but it is so worth it. You really walk away with much more knowledge than you came with. Take his class,do the work. So worth it
While well intentioned, Mixson teaches adequately at best. Between wasting half the class on pointless quizzes and rambling about how he is preparing us for university, Mixson hardly spends time on the material. If you want to jump through hoops for your grade and do little engaging work,take Mixson. If you want critical thinking, look elsewhere.
Loves teaching, super helpful. This class is super hard. Expect reading multiple chapters a night and a daily quiz. Missing one or two quiz's will greatly ruin your grade. Long midterm and finals, but lenient on the answers. Never out early, come ready to learn. Notes are needed to pass this class, and he will help if you are struggling.
Frank is the best professor at the school and I would easily take his class over again. With quizzes every day and extensive amounts of reading this class can hit you like a ton of bricks, but ultimately you will love every second of it.
Amazing professor, this class definitely gets you into good study/reading habits. He is definitely a professor that sets the bar high because he knows his students are capable of it. If you're looking for an Easy A, don't take him, if you're looking to learn, then he's the right professor to take.

Smash mouth ego the size of Cerritos Passed the course barely but had to lower all my hours at work and drop all my other classes. Wouldn't take this course again with this Prof esp. with her. There is a lot of extra credit yes and there's tutoring but with the lack of turn around (grades were never up to date) and the amount of papers and papers!!

Mixson was a fiery version of Tom Cruise in a PE coach body and he walked around with a pencil in his ear walking around as if he owned the place; He would yell at students who were a minute late to class; kick students out if they came with no homework. This class is not structured well at all. FRANK sweats the whole time so it is very distracting. HES also got a orange tan with white hair tangerine grades like MIXSON is a Harvard professor. The exams and homework are very difficult, but the upside is FRANK offers A TON of extra credit worth a lot. You can FAIL all the exams and essays and PASS!!!
Her online class was disorganized. There's ALOT to read and write but it is an essay writing class. MIXYs no HELP I was a strong essay writer prior but I see reviews saying she's tough SHE IS!!!. Funny Essay and exam questions are not too difficult, but grading was a challenge because everything is tailored to how she wants it. Does not input due dates. Just puts in that it is due by Sunday at 11:59. Also, he is late with releasing the next module. It is late Monday and it is not online. Homework assignments are unrelated to lecture. If you want a funny and passionate professor, he's your guy. My one piece of advice is take good notes.

The only reason I'm giving Easy for this class was because he never showed up, & barely assigned us anything. I took this class in 2021 and he left midway through the semester. Had us buy a book we never went over, and had us do a potluck for the class that he did not even show up to and cancelled the class. We did nothing

Horrible as an online professor. Basically you are teaching yourself so much homework you don't fully understand the text especially if you have other classes. Professor is a big time NO. DONT TAKE MIX CLASS-SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR TIME. During the lectures, MIX will talk about irrelevant topics (because MIX is irrelevant) and will decide whether to have a quiz or not based on participation. Additionally, MIX due dates for assignments and ESSAYS are nearer than expected, so you HAVE to watch out for MIXXY!

Before class starts he assigns a lot of work, if you don't complete in 3 days EVERY little thing correct.. down to if you miss a number bullet point. He tries to drop you & make you beg him to stay. He doesn't go over anything, help you. He is hard,outdated, passive aggressive, and overall strict. Please don't take him.

harsh grader, the average in the class was a 50-60% on most assignments which brought down grades. Feels like he expects his students to be graduate level researchers when this is only a GE class. VERY VERY strict with grading, if you make one small mistake youre basically guaranteed half points gone off the assignment

Too much work and too little feedback. He WILL redirect you to a tutor. DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO DO HIS JOB. The only communication received is when he accused me of using AI multiple times in a paper. think he is really setting you up for failure. It's near impossible to do 8-9 stories every week with 40+ discussions per chapter. The pre/post homework is about 40 questions as well. I'm actually spending 40 hours per week just doing homework and that's kinda insane. 40/40/40
