Frank's lecture style is easy going with some bad jokes thrown in. He's pretty arrogant if you ever go in and see him in his office. He doesn't really listen, and you know that b/c he doesn't really answer your questions. The class is super easy, though, so just show up and sit through it
Frank is an awesome professor!! He is funny and seems to really want his students to do well. He is always available during his office hours, and is very helpful. He seems to enjoy the subject matter and it shows in his teaching. He is also involved in the ISUAPICS club,& encourages students to join

arrogant, his test suck
Very nice guy, a little unclear about homeworks, but willing to help you
Class was so boring. He is not the best lecturer. He assigns group members for projects so that wasn't the best situation. His test are split half and half with multiple choice and short answer. There is a lot of reading of really boring articles.
He tended to focus on topics/ examples you as a student couldn't relate to and didn't have back ups, which made it seem that he wasn't sure of his audience for the class. He doesn't let you have time to aCtually figure out problems before he tells you the answers so it is hard to tell if you know the information for the test.
I absolutely loved this class. The classes were really interesting. He brought in alot of outside information to the class. The professor makes sure that all the students are engaged. He is very smart and knows what is going on in the industry.
He cares about the students who care, doesn't so much about the ones who don't. You must get on his good side by participating a lot. He likes to have fun, but can't go an entire class period without using his "Montabon French". Lastly, he needs to have his wife pick out his clothes!
great class. watch grammar in papers--they need to be perfect!
I give him a thumbs up.
Hard class but as long as you try hard, ask questions, and show up for class you will do fine. Frank has terrbile sense of humor but willing to make fun of himself and get into light "trash talking" with students.
he hides in his office...
Frank Rocks! Learned alot!
This guy is sharp & knows his stuff. His office hrs helped. He also drops by the computer lab to see if anyone needs help on HW. He tracks & grades attendance/tardies, so be there every day & on time. He uses a lot of sarcasm, but never mean-spirited.
Great class. Montabon knows his stuff & is very passionate about the subject. Practice your presentation skills, he really watches for quality not quantity.
This professor is great. Some may question his grading practices but hard work pays off.He needs to implement the use of "carrier pigeon" on contacts. Overall I give it a two thumbs up.
Engages class everyday. Knows his stuff. Homeworks can be a little unclear at times but very helpful if you go to his office and ask questions. One of my favorite professors at ISU.
Ya really gotta show up for class to learn stuff. He's got a dry sense of humor, but ask him about home brewing and it'll open a new door!
Great teacher, his class is tough, but he's extremely helpful. Definitely go talk to him during office hours.
idk how ppl rated him arrogant and such bt go to cls and u'll know why he's one of my fav prof. entertaining while learning. thumbs up! tests are not easy tho, bt if u pay attention and never miss a class. tests are easy
He means well, but I agree with many that he spends a lot of time trying to make stupid jokes. Go to class so you can get 100% on assignments. Missing 1 dropped me to a 94% on homework. Tests are best 4 of 5. You do have to study, but if you go to class & look over slides, it's really not too bad. He's great at communicating ?s to the whole class.
same jokes over and over, talks about how students have had trouble with certain material, yet covers it for like 5 minutes. attendance is basically mandatory because he has random homeworks and none can be dropped.
Print the slides, they help a lot. Go to all classes, all the homework = a test grade. He is a great professor, the material is boring so he tries to spice it up with jokes, that aren't the best. If you sit in front he will pick on you like a stand up comic might. Do the problems, do the problems, do the problems - best way to study.
Very knowledgable in subject matter, has real world experience so he actually knows what he's talking about. VERY cynical about anything and everything. Wants the best for you and your future, so def take him if you can.
Had him as a professor in australia omg are all professors in the us that hot!! I couldnt wait to go to my lectures every week you guys are very lucky
He makes class interesting with his sarcastic sense of humor, but he does not prepare students well for the exams. If you want both an interesting class and a good grade, take it with Jennifer Blackhurst. I ended up having to go to her lectures in addition to his, because her exam reviews were extremely indicative of the material on the exams.
His sense of humor makes the class interesting. Tests were tough..Harder than SCM 424. He never tells the class when things are due or when the test is until a week before, which blows. In addition I felt the slides aided in my learning very minimally. You can try using the book to learn, but it has errors. Recommendation?=take with diff. teacher.
Keeps the class fairly interesting. Class seems like a rehash of the 485 and 424 classes. Has unreasonable participation standards of his students. Book was rarely used and the tests were difficult to study for.
He is the most enthusiastic teacher I have ever had. It was so easy to go to class because he made it fun by cracking jokes. Use the TA's to help you with homework and you are guaranteed to get 100% on them. Tests are multiple choice. The only bad thing is that he doesn't give a study guide and other teachers do.
This class was my 8 am and I was more than happy to actually get up for it. Very enthusiastic and uses easy real life examples to help understanding. Always keeps the class lively and makes us want to listen. Very helpful if needed and was a riot to have every morning. Grade based on some attendance, homework (hardest part) and tests.
Great teacher, always made class interesting and was always willing to help his students.
Frank is a fun and entergetic guy to say the least. The class is canned as they all teach the same material and use the same night exams. He could do better with getting grades out and communicating grade related issues. Overall, he's a lot of fun, especially early in the mornings. He may not be the easiest of instructors for this course however.
Prof montabon was hard, but I loved it. He challenged me to grow in ways I didn't know we're possible. His class last spring left me yearning for! I wish he were teaching scm-485. I guess prof grawe will have to do.
Montabon is a great professor and an awesome guy! The class content can be hard to grasp but he explains it so that it relates back to college and real life terms. I highly recommend Montabon, especially if you're not a SCM major you'll want him for this course as he thoroughly explains content.
Montabon is one of the best professors here at ISU. He gives lots of real life examples and how it relate to the course concepts. He tries to make every class fun and yet educational at the same time. All the homework are very doable as long as you put in some time and effort, and you can also compare it with the TA. I highly recommend Montabon.
Very knowledgeable professor, keeps class interesting with jokes and stories.
Great professor. Definitely knowledgeable about supply chain management and will make you work for your grade as you should in any class.
One of the best teachers I've had at ISU. While this was not an "easy A" course, it reassured my decision to be a supply chain major. Extremely knowledgeable and has the best interest for his students.
Prof Montabon was a very good professor. Every class was filer with examples regarding everything we were discussing. He was down to earth and very willing to answer question during class. Also quick to email back. I never went in to talk to him but I'm sure he'd be just as generous. I only used my book for extra examples for math. Overall goodprof
very helpful and U learn a lot for ur career but can be a GPA killer
Frank is a great guy... but perhaps not the greatest professor. Lecture slides were vague- you have to pay close attention to everything he says during class. Study, study, study for exams. Read the book. The saving grace is the two group projects- he grades rather easily on those.
Frank is by far the best professor that I have had at Iowa State so far. He uses his real world consulting background for class examples. That being said, don't expect and easy A or even a B if you don't put any effort into the class. Reading from the book really helps as some of the examples Frank uses in class builds from book examples.
He is always there for you in his office hours and will go out of his way to help you understand. Show up and try your best. Dude is a bro.
Frank is the by far the best professor I have ever had. The class was not super easy, but he is a very interesting lecturer and keeps the class fresh and engaging. I honestly love Frank and would marry him if he asked me. Shame he is married, and that I am a dude. He also gives very helpful life tips and has very interesting career ideas.
Not a business major but he explained concepts clearly enough to understand. He is incredibly helpful, but you have to make the move and ask the questions. Can come off a bit arrogant, but would definitely take more classes from him - he knows how to teach and how to make it entertaining and interesting.
First day he said truth in advertising about himself. He also said no curve and said it was a tuff class. But he did a great job making lectures fun and informative. A+ professor in my book.
I took this class as a tech elective, and I really enjoyed it. Frank is a realist and conveys the material extremely well, just go to lecture, and pay attention for an "A." He is also funny, which works. The exams are tough, only because of the memorization of terms and ideas. The math is easy (multiplication with a calc.) I highly recommend him.
Make sure to really participate and go in if you need help--he doesn't want you to fail, even though the class is hard. Lectures are worth going to cause he is so funny, it makes class go by quickly! All in all cool class but be prepared for a tough class.
If you go to class and complete the homeworks, you'll do fine. Frank is a good guy.
This Prof Really knows his stuff. The Lectures are somewhat conversational, but do the reading or he will start assigning points to in class activities to force participation.
Good teacher. Lectures are interesting. Participation is graded.
Great professor, learned a lot! Tough grader. He wants you to participate in class a lot (which is part of your final grade).
I highly recommend Frank as a professor. He is incredibly knowledgeable about supply chain and shares his knowledge with students. His teaching style emphasizes learning and applicability, not memorization and facts. Be prepared to work hard in all categories of class (homework, projects, participation); you will rewarded for the work put in.
Great guy. Very helpful. Understanding. If you're kind and respectful to him, he will be to you.
He is an amazing teacher that will give you a hard time but he makes sure class is fun yet productive. If your a marketing major he will give you hell, all the time about your major.
Frank is 1 of my fav profs so far. He makes the lectures interesting and practical. There were 4 tests (combined concepts and math). Math was easy and conceptual part was fair; practice the worksheets & read the book, you'll be fine. There were pop quizzes; show up, you'll get full credit. 2 group projects were okay. You'll learn lots in his class.
Great class but don't take unless you specifically need it. Prof is awesome but grades are very difficult to come by.
Great Teacher and lecturer although grading is hard
The class is very difficult but he is a great teacher and lecturer
Read the book and go to office hours to pass
Super funny guy. Teaches practical knowledge that you will need to know when you're working for "real money." Go to class and participate, its worth it.
Frank wants you to learn more than just wanting you to pass. Be ready to work hard but walk away knowing more than you thought you would.
He is a good lecturer that gives insight into real world supply chain topics. Participation matter to him and you are graded on that and your attendance. Gives hard tests but grades the two group case reports that he assigns easier. Very knowledgeable but be ready to do a lot of work for a good grade. Learn a lot in this class from him.
Super sarcastic with a bit of cynicism. He'll give you a hard time, but nothing truly offensive. He takes the whole class time, so don't expect to get out early. He knows the material, so listen to him if you want to actually learn.
Frank is a killer professor, I recommend taking any class with him. Lectures are engaging and really helped me understand the material. Tests and group projects are tough and worth most of the grade, but there is usually a curve at the end. A class with Frank may be harder, but I guarantee you'll have a better understanding of the material.
Frank is one of the hardest professors at Iowa State. He does not give nearly enough resources to do well on exams, the class average shows it too. Frank is very quick to put the blame on the students for not studying. Beware of his participation points. You are expected to have an input at least 3 times a class. His humor is borderline offensiv
He is a really difficult grader. Please avoid him at all costs (In the interest of full transparency, he instructed me to leave this review)
Fantastic lecturer and makes supply chain interesting to learn. Homework is hard but if you ask for help he is willing to help. Exams are extremely difficult so make sure to study or else good luck. Gives random attendance quizzes so class is basically mandatory. Frank makes an effort to get to know every student and make a personal connection.
He manages to make a dry subject like supply chain management interesting and fun. Great lectures most of the time and the tests/homework are easy if you study the lecture slides and go to class.
Excellent professor. I would recommend him to anyone taking this class.
This is a tough class with Frank. None of the material is that hard, but rather he makes the exams difficult and grades with the mentality that you must earn your points. Don't let this deter you from taking the class with Frank. Take notes before class and be prepared to listen attentively and discuss actively. Accept the challenge to get better.
Dr. Montabon is a great professor and does a great job keeping his lectures interesting, especially for those who may not enjoy learning about SCM. One homework assignment due before each of the tests, and the final was not cumulative. Attendance is necessary, but being in his lecture is worth it. Makes fun of White Claw and other non-craft alcohol
If you show up to class and take the homework seriously you will pass with an A. My grade was due to one botched assignment otherwise I would have had an A. I attended every lecture and felt the textbook wasnt necessary.
Montabon is a fantastic, passionate, and caring professor. You can go to him for any questions or confusions. Absolutely a top professor at Iowa State University.
Montabon is a great professor. He really wants you to leave his class with a strong understanding of the material. Show up to class!!! His exams are based off of his lectures, so make sure you're taking good notes. His exams are difficult. They're usually 25 questions multiple choice, so if you study hard you should do well.
Frank is a great teacher! He may seem intimidating but he wants you to learn and he is there to help. A better class if you are better with math - he goes through the math fairly quickly and there aren't many opportunities for practice. He teaches conceptual concepts great and I have a greater appreciation for SCM thanks to him. Participate a lot!
Professor Montabon, is a really cool guy. He believes in making you work for your grade, but not through busy work and other pointless grading. He is really good at explaining things and helping out with group projects. Basically, if you put in the effort (like actual effort), you will pass. (RIP Chile)
Great opportunity to work with a real company on a real business problem while getting international experience along the way.
SCM491 is a very tough class that Professor Montabon made very enjoyable. He was very helpful both in and out of class. I feel he is a tough grader, but he is a fair grader as well.
491 with Frank is awesome: he is there to answer any and all of your questions. His dry humor humans him and he has real life experience to relate to the class. It is a lot of group work but Frank will be there whenever you need him. Highly recommend!
Absolutely loved his class. It's solely graded on 4 HW assignments and 4 exams so make sure to study for them. Really tough exams but it's manageable if you go to class (his lectures are really good), take notes and study hard! Would recommend if you're planning on majoring in SCM, he genuinely wants you to learn and understand the material.
Wish we would go over the homework more in class but other than that Frank is a solid choice.
Prof. Montabon is great. I love hearing his dry humor at 9 am. He does a great job giving examples from his own career in order for you to understand the concepts better. However, his tests will catch you off guard if you don't study. He is super knowledgeable, hilarious, and responsive to his student's needs. Highly recommend taking his class.
Frank is very knowledgeable and makes the class interesting with his humor. This class can be difficult, though. There aren't curves or extra credit, and the exams can be rough. Some questions go into greater depth than what we discussed or practiced for the class. Be prepared to spend some time on this class and don't miss out on easy points.
Professor Montabon is a very solid lecturer and all around great guy. His teaching style allows you to earn your grade instead of receive it. He pushes group work a lot and participation will be a very large part of your grade. I would 100% take another class with Frank and I recommend any and all students to try a course with him.
Outstanding class experience.
Most of the problems we encountered were due to the company we were working with but Frank worked to try to fix them. Intense class, but fun and rewarding.
Professor Montabon is a very helpful professor! I attended office hours multiple time and he reviewed practice problems with me. The exams are tough but studying and asking questions will get you along way in the course. I would recommend taking this class with Professor Montabon. The course is very interesting and I really enjoyed the content!
Montabon is one of the funniest professors I have ever had, so his lectures are very entertaining. The course is pretty difficult, and you need to stay up to date with homework and the course material because he does not really go over previous assignments and exams. He is very light-hearted and easy to talk to if you have a problem or questions.
Frank is a solid guy. But sometimes, he is very nick picky about the smallest of things. Like a spouse who tries to find an issue in little things. (For example, he sent an email questioning why people went to the bathroom during 1 hour and 15-minute class). Like relax, we are human and have to use it.also a Harsh grader , but for good reasons.
He actually tries to prepare his students for the professional business world after college while teaching one of the most interesting classes. As long as you put effort into the class, you will be fine, even though he is a tough grader compared to most professors.
Frank is one of those professors that every SCM is bound to have throughout their major classes. He is awkwardly funny, lets loose in this specific class, and makes class more fun than tough. I appreciate him because you can tell he truly cares. Show up and participate? You'll get a good grade!
Frank Montabon is a good professor overall. He runs the class on articles and lectures on current events affecting supply chains, but he keeps things interesting and is upfront about his biases. He can be a tough grader, but his criteria are fair and you have to put the work in. There are a few longer papers for group projects.
The Good: Frank was a personable teacher and made classes fun to attend. He made an effort to answer questions in class when needed. The Bad: It seemed Frank took pride in the extreme class difficulty. If you care about a good GPA don't take this class with him. Grading was hard, limited exam prep was available, and speaking in class was required.
Professor Montabon keeps the class engaging with discussions on current supply chain topics. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of it. Unstuck AI was a great study tool that helped me prep for the papers and presentations.
He's a very knowledgeable SCM professor. His exams are tough, and he takes joy in it. However, he'll make funny jokes during lectures and ease the complexity of the content, making time fly by. I recommend taking him but be prepared for a challenging class and grades that may not be great. Also, I recommend going to his office hours if you can.
He wants the best for both you and the project/assignment given. This means he is tough on you and pushes you to be the best you can be. Overall this class was fun and helped me grow as a student. I can see this class being one of the most impactful classes of my college career.
Professor Montabon created a lively and fun class environment by talking about interesting topics that you wouldn't normally see in a classroom. Keeping the topics interesting, helped keep me engaged and made it easy to participate in lectures. All good things to say about Professor Montabon, and would recommend taking this class as a SCM elective!
Frank is a very personable professor; I will give him that. However, he takes too much pride in making the class extremely difficult. He gives almost no exam prep and wonders why we all do so poorly on his exams. The slides make no sense, and those are the only things we get. Take with another professor if you care about your grade.
The professor knows his material very well; however, he has trouble teaching it because the content is always confusing for me. He tends to use profane language and offensive remarks in class. If I were a supply chain major, I would have switched majors.
He doesn't post dates or have regularity of what day assignments are due so they are easy to miss. He likes that his class is hard and the average score on the exam was in the 60s for a introductory core course.
Nice and funny to a certain extent. Pretty difficult for a 301 class. Tough grader - no regularity to assignments/schedule. Read the chapters before class; the slides are just photos that he explains in his own way. Not much review for exams - he'd tell us to make our own questions to practice. Tophat everyday. Said if we miss 5 classes, we fail.
