JUST TOOK HIM FOR LAB AND GOT AN "A". HAS AN ACCENT. HE'S CUBAN. BUT SHOW UP TO CLASS AND PARTICIPATE IN LABS. TOOK QUIZZES A FEW TIMES. NO BOOK BUT A LAB MANUAL U NEED TO COMPLETE LABS. BUY A BK STORE FOR LESS THAN $20. U NEED A LAB COAT, GOGGLES (ALTHO I NVR USED IT) N HAVE TO WEAR CLOSE TOE SHOES. N U DNT HAVE TO TURN IN ANY REPORTS. TAKE HIM.
HE IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL EVEN THOUGH HE HAVE A STRONG ACCENT YOU CAN STILL PASS HIS CLASS U REALLY DONT NEED THE BOOK HE GO BY USING POWERPOINTS AND IF U FAIL EVERY EXAM FOR EX YOU GET A 50 ON IT HE OFFER YOU TO DO ASSIGNMENTS TO BRING YOUR GRADE UP I PASS WITH A "B" AND RECEIVE POINTS FOR COMING TO CLASS AS WELL!
You can barely understand anything with his heavy accent. You tend to lose interest fast. He just reads off of a powerpoint. I honestly did not enjoy his class at all.
I loooved the professor more than I loved the class. His accents kinda hard to understand but you get used to it. He really knows his stuff when it comes to biology and you don't use the book because all his notes are on powerpoints which he emails to his students. The tests tho were kinda hard. He does give extra credit so take advantage of that.
He is a good teacher but his accent makes the whole class looks boring. It only reads powerpoints and exams are hard. The good things are his extra points and that he gives 50% homework upon the grade of the exams. If you are bilingual take him, if no you are going to have trouble.
Professor Puentes is great! Attendance is mandatory as he mostly works off of his power points. The book is optional. Homework goes toward extra credit for the test. He has an accent, but you can understand what he says. He always answers your questions and constantly checks with the class to make sure everyone understands.
This professor's accent is completely incomprehensible. When you ask him questions about what he is teaching, he responds with a smart remark as if you should know everything. All he does to "teach" his class is basically read off the powerpoint that he brings and when he's presenting it...even he looks lost himself. I do NOT recommend him at all!
Professor Puentes is great. The entire course is presented through powerpoints so it can get a little monotonous and boring. The professor makes jokes and small talk throughout, however, so it never gets too bad. Exams were all open-notes in my class so it helped me incredibly.
AMAZING instructor. He has a slight accent but the professor is extremely helpful and goes out of his way to make sure you understand the material. Teaches through powerpoint, gives us all material needed for midterm & final. highly recommend.
This professor is by far the worst! He assigns you more than 40 pages to study for quizzes and only gives you five questions which may or may not cover what he went over in lecture. He does not lecture, he stands in front of the class and introduces the subject and doesnt tie it into the disease process. He is the "pitts." Do not take him #stayaway
The best professor! He is so funny! Also, he is very helpful if you show him that you are interested in learning. He is an MD and he knows a lot!! It's a very interesting class if you want to learn anatomy and general health and diseases. Tests were a little hard but 50% of the grade was depended on the writing assaingnments. Highly recommended!!
It was an amazingly interesting and relaxing class. At the end of the semester, we had an oppurtunity to think about origin of life. We couldn't stop talking about it even during a break. He was a very helpful professor and very funny, too! The exams were easy and very minimum assignments as well. I had a so much fun.
Had him for lab. Great class, I recommend Professor Puentes.
Professor Puentes is an excellent instructor very nice gentleman, hands on, took him for 1086 Lab. I really enjoyed his class and his learning style, he wants you to learn and will make sure you understand his class. Take him he is the best.
I cannot recommend this professor because it is very difficult to understand his accent. Also he has told us multiple times NOT to study certain areas and then he puts it on the test. He keeps his grades in a note book and you have no proof of your grades if he makes a mistake when posting them. He is also very biased.
Took him for my lab, he is a little hard to understand but that's all. I really like the fact that he went over everything that had been covered in the lecture so it was like a second review. he is very hands on and will help you out. he is very flexible and gives you many chances to obtain a good grade, like giving extra credit. good teacher!
Retook A&P 1 lecture with him. I received an F the first time with a different professor and received an A with him....grade depends on your effort and teacher! he was very helpful and understanding with us. especially since we had a night class. He understood we all had to work and were trying to better our lives. I recommend you take him.
he is very good teacher I recomend him
I took him for lab. Great professor. Count on your lecture to teach you the bulk of your information because he flies through his power-points. He is very hands on, will always help, creates a relaxed classroom atmosphere, gives extra credit, wants everyone to get an A. And he can be pretty funny too. Weekly quiz so get to class on time! Recommend!
Took him for winter 2012...Just barely made it with a B. He goes by way too fast and reads of the powerpoint. If you take him just be prepared to self study is all I can say but he does give extra credit assignment which boosted my grade. If you have trouble with accents then I suggest you take another instructor.
I took him for both A&P 1 and 2 and his labs. He does teach off his ppt but he also uses the book so have both. He's a great teacher very helpful & wants you to get an A but you need to study & put effort into it. His lectures are about physiology & how the body works & labs are strictly understanding the parts & how they relate.
Good guy. He wants everyone to pass. Very helpful and gives opportunities to raise your grade. You can tell he's passionate about anatomy but he's a little disorganized. He doesn't post grades. You have to stay on top of him and constantly ask what your current grade is. His grading system is a miracle worker. Came out with an A in both lect & lab
I've never taken the time to rate a professor. He hated answering anyone's question. He had to apologize to a student for being so rude. She reminded him that she paid for her education. Rude, test are ridiculous,I got an A and learned nothing from him.He always walked in frustrated to class and so disorganized. Take him for lab NOT Lecture
Prof Puentes is a nice guy but overall his class is not easy. You definitely have to study the powerpoints and understand his heavy accent. I took him for lecture and lab and barely got a B. His exams are difficult so you MUST study if you want to pass.
Great professor, very helpful to his students and will not move on until you understand. He is very passionate about the course and wants you to learn.
Highly recommended!! He is a nice helpful man and a great professor. Although he has a strong accent, he teaches the information you need to know and disregards all the additional clutter. The subject itself is difficult and requires a lot of memorization but if you take pictures of the models and attend class you shall Ace the course.
He does have a tough accent which makes it hard to understand him. But he is a really nice professor if you don't understand he will go over it until you get it. Overall I recommend him
He does have a thick accent, but he obviously knows what he is talking about. If you do the lab manuals and listen in class, you should do fine on the midterm and final. Quizzes, lab manual and visits to the Anatomy tutoring center are all extra credit. He is funny and sarcastic, I'm taking him again for BSC2086L :)
Honestly, he was a kind of cool guy, but he was not a good teacher. His test would be 20 questions long and you would be tested on 5 chapters at a time, so that definitely didn't make sense. I did amazing in his lab and failed lecture by a few points & he didn't even bother to try. I highly recommend you to NOT TAKE HIM.
Just had him for anatomy lab, to be honest I was frustrated with him at first, he rushed through the power points & his accent is so strong, half the time I could barely understand him BUT he was willing to help when asked & he really knows his stuff. Had 2 quizzes for extra credit & a midterm & final exam. Show interest and you'll do fine.
He does NOT have a quiz at the beginning of each class, as other professors, which is awesome. He gives you towards the end of the class 10 extra points if you completed the handbook. He is very specific on what he wants you to study for midterm and final. He does have an accent but you can ask if you don't understand. He is very cool
Took his lab 2 semesters in a row, got an A in both. Grade this semester was based on midterm (50%) & final (50%) & completion of lab manual (10 extra credit points). He did give a few students random points for correct answers and correct completion of an experiment this term. The midterm & final were very easy. He tells you what to expect.
All I'm going to say is RUN while you still can!
Good guy but hard to understand. Expects you to teach yourself. Dont expect to pass unless you go to the mocks. Take the extra time and do the extra credit. He has a kind heart but hes a very hard teacher and comes off as if he doesnt care about your grade. If you dont study or go to the ASC, YOU WONT PASS. ASK QUESTIONS CONSTANTLY!!
DON'T TAKE HIM!!! Hard to understand what he's trying to explain. Your grade is based on midterm and final ONLY (doesn't give you a guide as to what you have to study) plus 10 extra points he gives you for completing the manual, doesn't give any extra chances to improve your grade. I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
grades in his labs are based on midterm and final only. He gives extra credit for doing the lab manual. the tests are easy if you spend a little time studying what he tell you to
Puentes is a nice guy. just study what he tells you for the exam and you will be good
He does care about his students and their grades. He tells you EXACTLY what will be on the test. In a subject that is very hard he narrows it down to what is necessary. He has an accent but you can understand him. He is very smart and passionate about the subject. Show up, listen to what he says, do the mock practicals and lab book, easy A. Do it!!
Prof. Puentes is a very nice guy. He tells you exactly what you need to study for the midterm and final exams. If you pay attend every class and pay attention to what he says, you will get an A. Just remember that A&P is a tough class and you need to review the models, take the mock exams and memorize a lot. Take him and you won't regret it.
In order to pass YOU MUST go to ASC I repeat YOU MUST.. Ten extra points if you complete the book.. Strong accent grades are based of final and midterm so nail the and easy A
He's a great professor, he has a strong accent. he tells you exactly what will be on the midterm and exam and if you study all the material on the body parts you will get an A . I love the class very easy.
WELL JUST GO TO ASC AND YOU WILL DEFINETLY PASS. COMPLETE THE LAB MANUAL AND THAT 15 EXTRA POINTS. NO QUIZ PLUS GRADE IS OFF MIDTERM AND FINAL
Professor Puentes is excellent, he gives a lot of extra points, he don't uses the book which is awesome bc you don't have to read a lot, you must read the power points thats all, and he tells exactly was going to be on the test.
Great Professor. I'm taking him now, and I'm enjoying his class. Once you read the book, attend class, there's no way you wont get an A.
I spent a lot of time studying for this class. Puentes didn't make it easy for you to get an A in his class. He had a bad attitude toward the class most days. When students asked questions, he was reluctant to answer and if questions were answered wrong during the lab he would roll his eyes and be upset. He graded homework at weird times as well
He is a no nonsense type of professor but he knows his stuff. Do the pre labs and youll be fine. He also gives a 10 question quiz every other week but will never test you on something he didnt teach you. PAY ATTENTION!!!
He's a straight forward professor and he tells you what will be on the test and everything you need to know. Chances to get extra credit and tells you about easy pop quizzes. Do prelabs. I failed before and I passed with a B with him with minimal effort. Anatomy is already hard, so he's probably the best you'll get. Study a little and you'll pass.
Probably one of the worst professors youll take at MDC. The class is an hour and a half long and he only teaches for thirty minutes and takes up most of the time grading homework one by one. He will also give you a pop quiz every class with 3 to 4 questions. Last but not least, he doesnt teach! He expects you to read and do everything on your own
Nice guy, easy A - just don't miss lab
He has an accent but it is easy to comprehend what he is saying. Attendance is mandatory because it is a big part of your grade. Also, you will have a quiz at the beginning of each class on the previous lab. The quizzes are kind of hard but just make sure you review the lab and it will kind of help you.
Good professor you have to listen when he says something is important it will be on test. His quizzes are difficult but his midterm and final are exactly what he tells you to study. He is always willing to answer your questions.
Would not take again. Was not helpful. Gets annoyed when you ask questions. Have to use the ASC in order to pass.
he has a bit of an accent but he is a good teacher! he can be a little slow on giving grades back so you should keep track of your own, gives you extra credit for your pre/post labs and teaches every section well before letting you do your own thing in the class time.
Grading: 25% midterm, 25% Final, 25% quizzes, 25% dissection/lab work. Gives extra credit if you do the book questions/practice quizzes. I think AP 2 is easier than AP 1 tbh. BEWARE OF TRICK QUESTIONS ON QUIZZES, that's where your grade is most affected. If you study you'll get an A. But, take someone else if you have the option; not a first pick.
Professor Puentes is super sweet & funny! Tries his best to make lectures interesting & gives great examples all through out the lessons! Pay attention to the lectures & study for the tests, you'll pass.
Prof. Puentes is an amazing teacher. He teach you not only to memorize anatomy, but to think critically and understand physiology. He gives tricky questions on the tests, but if you really understood the material, then you will have no problem with it. Also, he gives a lot of opportunities for extra credits.
Very good professor. Specific. Test every week. Make sure you do the pre-labs they help a lot towards your final grade. If you don't care you won't pass.
My main issue is his terrible attitude. He is rude, disrespectful, laughs at questions. Every class he doesn't know which topic/material should be discussed and he doesn't teach, just reads off slides. He does not follow the syllabus, take this class if you have patience and time to teach yourself. He gives two quizzes per chapter/unit. Two exams.
Puentes lost his motivation for teaching. I took AP Lab 2 He went through PPP slides very quickly and dismissed class in 35 minutes. He doesn't teach. He uploads tons of material on D2L and you're responsible for it. His quizzes are very tricky, (poor writing). Towards end of semester he did give us chances to improve grades. Not 1st pick for cl
doesnt try to teach. he just runs through the slides and doesnt say anything. dont take him because you will just end up teaching your self. very unorganized. doesnt like when you ask questions. i had to take him because he was my only option.
AVOID AT ALL COST!!!! I MEAN IT!! I thought it was just be people exaggerating when I was reading the comments. First of all, he is so disorganized he doesn't even know what he is saying and takes him forever to start. I swear he doesn't know what he is teaching he contradicts himself. RUDE! Don't even bother having a question. He gets ANNOYED.
This is a class that requires you to read. Professor Puentes doesn't teach like other teachers, but he's willing to answer your questions. His PowerPoints are helpful. He's specific when it comes to studying for exams. This class is not a "walk over". You will pass if you are dedicated to learning.
Assignments are weekly quizzes and pictures to label for anatomy called practice practicas. He doesnt really teach just go by slides and the book but if you go with the flow amd do every assignment you can pass . Practice practicas are hard though and no answers references are found on internet
He acts more like a supervisor. In class hell just go over pp slides reading off them and then sits down. Each week you have a quiz and a practice practical, do those youll be able to pass. Flexible with deadlines but hard to get in touch with. All the homework he offers is extra credit. Not a first pick but he wants students to pass
He doesn't teach at all. you have to teach yourself. You have to ask if you have a question, he doesn't explain in detail. I don't mind teaching myself but if you are the type of student that needs helps or some guidance, don't even think about taking his class.
He has 4 tests. No midterm/final. For the 3 tests you need to study (has a study guide) and the 4th test is open book super easy. Has a accent but no big deal. If you talk to him one on one he will definitely help you. Plus, if you end up with a 67-69% he will make it 70% so you can pass. Try to get him for lab too! Be nice & respectful to him!!!
I love him! He has a heavy accent which makes it funny.. Overall, he know what he is talking about. He tries hard for everyone to pass and gives chances. Anatomy class is overall hard. If you get a bad grade, well that because you put in no effort. I would definitely take him again if I can. Had him for AP Lecture and corresponding Lab.
microscopic slides/ models each class I recommend you take pictures and study them they will be on practice practicals(quizzes), however, some slides will not be in the textbook or PowerPoint slides which are unfair, the exit quizzes are hard n you cant find answers online or course material, overall the teacher is laidback n team up 2 study
He is a very nice professor, his accent doesn't bother me at all because I can still understand him. If you study, you will pass the class. I took both classes with him and I passed both. Professor Puentes performs really well, he knows his material perfectly, I would definitely take him as a teacher again.
Good class
The homework was very easy and he tells you exactly what topics would be on the exams. Plus he always provides extra credit questions on the exams. Very easy class you just have to study a lot.
He assigned a lot of quiz that you can do at home. To pass this class you need to constantly be review the models and reading the textbook. You'll need to study a lot for this course. But Professor Puentes is understanding and a great professor.
He is an overall great professor. Lots of opportunities to raise your grade. He gives a lot of extra credit and extend due dates if needed. The connects are worth 100 points and the lab your prelab is worth a grade as well. Make sure you study and pay attention. He lets you know ahead of time what to expect. Also provide study guides.
Took this professor for lab and he didn't teach rarely anything. Basically taught myself the material. would not recommend this teacher. The tests are all fill in the blanks and you have to do pre labs BEFORE class. Do NOT TAKE. He wasted my time and I learned nothing. I learned more in a lecture with another teacher than him.
Nice professor, however, not very clear with his slight lecturing in lab. He tells you what you need to study and what will be on the midterm and/or final, though there is no actual study guide, you have to make your own. Manual is required, do the HW for EC. Show up and make sure you CONSTANTLY review models!!!
Professor Puntes was pretty chill, (I wasn't crazy about his teaching style so I had to teach myself but as a science major I feel like that's normal). Cons: He doesn't give you a study guide or clear answer of what exactly to study for exams Pros: If you study those models consitently & do the online quizzes and you'll pass
Teacher is difficult to understand!
Professor Puentes is the worst professor ever, please do not take his class. He is never prepared and his lectures are not helpful at all, he just reads powerpoints and does not explain the material well. He also never answers his emails and would not prepare us for any exams
Professor Puentes is an excellent teacher. He comes everyday to class ready to actually lecture with the PowerPoints as a guide. He provides a study guide with the concepts that will be on each exam. He also provides extra credit on the exams for creating a study guide for them. Overall I enjoyed his class, learned a lot, and didn't find it hard.
Quizzes/tests 95% fill in the blank, might be tricky cuz a lot of the pictures are different from the PowerPoints and APR's, a lot of people in my class felt like we were answering questions accurately and still got them wrong, took him a while to address this. 2 attempts at quizzes tho! Pushes grades back cuz he knew too many people were failing.
He's a very tough grader. You have to do online assignments for vocab and I thought they were completion grade because it doesn't give you a grade in the system it just shows you completed, before the class ended he graded that a 69
I took him online and will honestly not do it again. Although the HW/ discussions itself weren't bad, those exams weigh A LOT and we were not provided with any study guides, even though the class was only a month long. We did get an extra exam which was optional if the grade was needed, but overall..i'm just happy i made it through and it's over.
The professor provides a helpful study guide outlining what will be on exam. But quizzes & tests, mostly fill-in-the-blank, often feel misleading; even when answers seem correct, they're marked wrong,& with no way to review mistakes, you're left confused, which feels excessive for a one-credit class. I think class was easy as long as you study.
He doesn't explain things in detail, his heavy accent paired w/ him being very soft spoken makes it hard to understand the lecture, grumpy, must be on time or your counted as late, the powerpoints don't have much info so ATTENDANCE MATTERS. If you want to pass this class, your primary source of learning will be the textbook.
This class is very hands-off. The PowerPoints aren't interactive, and there's no real communication or feedback from the instructor. It's difficult to know what to focus on without structure or study guidance. I'd recommend taking this class in person instead of online.
This professor is tough. Quizzes are 10 fill in the blank questions in 15 mins and the 60 question exam was originally 60 mins. He added 20 more mins after I complained. No extra credit at all, and he's not willing to help you improve your grade. He gives 2 attempts for quizzes if you ask. Overall, I would never take this professor again.
