very fun class, test is just what he explains in class
Very helpful. Uses cool examples. Req. some work though.
nice guy but need to get on good side.has favs. if ur not 1 of them, gl
He makes the class very demanding and the exams are very long. However, he is a really nice guy and knows what he is talking about. He will keep you updated on the current news in the economy.
He makes sure the class understands and learns the material
He is a cool guy but he gives you alot of information to know for exams. I feel like it is high school all over again with all the quizes and homework as well. Easy B.
Good teacher but ask questions to get on his good side.
Enjoyed this class the most this semester. A lot of readings (book and outside articles) and online HW's (usually one per week). I bombed the midterm, but have made it up on the quizzes and HW's. AVerage grade in class is B-.
Take Mr. Ryan if you get a chance (I think he is teaching Fin 321 this spring). You will not regret it. He makes each class interesting and is very up to date. Very nice man and a good teacher. Just do the work and you will be fine.
Take this class. He is one of the best teachers at SDSU; very helpful and fair. You will learn a lot in this class
Frank is such a cool teacher. Everything is straight foreward, study the homework problems really well. Questions are repeated from the homework on the quizzes and also on the midterm and final. The material is a bit challenging but easy to grasp if you study!
ONE OF THE GREATEST TEACHERS AT SDSU. I WILL MISS HIM. GREAT JOKES!! MAKE SURE YOU SIGN-IN EVEN IF YOU LEAVE. DO ALL HTE BB HW ITS NOT TOO DIFFICULT. PARTICIPATE, READ THE WSJ AND MAKE COMMENTS IN CLASS. ALL THE EXAMS ARE REPLICAS FROM THE EXAMS YOU TOOK PREVIOUSLY PLUS THE NEW MATERIAL. DO THE WEB QUIZZES AND PUT THE ON YOUR "CRIB" SHEET. GOOD LUK
Professor Ryan is an asset to the Finance Department.
Very HELPFUL instructor & always available! Puts alot of time & effort into his lectures! Grade based on class curve which helps alot. Lots of homework on BB. I would strongly take him compared to other opinions available. Class average based on B-

Smart, nice, caring guy. Very helpful. Will push you, but not overly hard. Show up since he did grade based on attendance. Overall an awesome teacher for those that want to learn.
Prof. Ryan is one of the most organized teachers I've taken at State. Highly recommend taking Prof. Ryan for any Finance class. He has a way of making boring material seem interesting. Nice guy, very approachable. By the second class, he'll know just about everyone's name. Pretty good memory. He will make you work for your grade, but well wor
the best of the best, a lot of reading and a lot of work but very interesting
Excellent teacher. Leaves alot of HW, and readings. Midtern is ok as long as you study all the HW and quizzes. Overall very good.
A lot of extra work--busy work. Take this guy only if you have a lot of time on your hands to waste on just this one class.
The exams are hard, even when you do all of his homework and study all the quizes (and there are a lot). If you plan to take him, you better have some excess cash flow to get yourself a really good tutor. Otherwise, take someone else.
Lots of homework, lots of quizes to study for. Get ready to dedicate most of your study time to this class alone.
way too much unecessary work. And it won't even help you that much because the exams are way harder than the homework. Watch out for that final too.
Great Professor. Really cares about students. Available at all times by phone or email. You will learn a lot. Prepare to do a lot of work in this class. Easy to get a C but hard to get an A
Great professor but you must have lots of time to dedicate to this class. Way too much hw and quizzes and Midterms are very challenging. If you have a busy schedule then I suggest you take someone else.
Ryan is a very helpful professor in Fin Dept at SDSU. He is reachable by phone, email, schedule appointment. Email is the best way to get in touch with him. Yes a lot of homeworks, but it is how to learn to ace the quizes and midterm. Final is fair but a lot of prep. required. Be prepared to schedule your time accordingly and don't miss class.

This class is a combo of calc, fin, mngmt, stats, and econ. It may as well be taught in Greek because nobody knows what he's talking about. He puts these formulas on the board that don't make any sense. There is a ton of homework and reading. There's also 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Plus he grades on class participation.
This class is difficult in itself, his motto is that the learning takes place outside of the classroom. The only thing that helps in this class is all the homework. It may be time consuming but you can try at it as many times as you like and in the end its what boosts ur grade. There are 4 quizes, you study the quizes and you'll be ok for the midt
4 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final. 1/2 pg notes on midterm, 1 page on final none on quizzes. HW is done on BB and you can submit answers to see if you got them right/wrong and do it as many times until you get them right until the deadline. He is confusing sometimes. Study the past semesters quiz answers. Grades on a curve. Drops lowest test score.
This professor is the worst. He didn't care about helping me out when I ask for his help. Try to AVOID this professor if you can. I was suppossed to graduate this semester, and because of this jerk I have to take the class over the summer. He just talks about stupid things in the classroom, never teaches anything on finance at all.
if i never have to see this guy again, it would be too soon...this class made me HATE blackboard, so much busy work, its insane, if every class had this much work, i would have droped out long ago...avoid unless you dont have a life
Easily SDSU's BEST finance professor. My understanding in his 323 class got me through all the remaining finance classes I had to take. READ THE BOOK BEFORE COMING TO CLASS!!! The material is tough, and if you come unprepared, nobody can help you. Take advantage of his homework and how well Frank makes himself available (his cell phone).
Class felt like a six unit class since there was homework due every tuesday and thursday via blackboard. His tests were difficult and he made it almost impossible to use a financial calculator. Make sure to go to class and pay attention, it helps out in the end.
Very time consuming! Gives lots of hw on blckbrd but u can keep trying until u get them all right. 4 qzs but drops ur lowest score. 1 Midtrm & final. He'll give u last semesters qzs, midterm & final, study them good along w/hw! almost identical. Use fin. calc/Ti-83, he does not want u 2 but thats the only way ull finish on time. He also curves!
makes things more complicated than needed. unnessessary emphisis on class agenda.he expects u to know the material in advance and he just likes to commet. a lot of HW. grading is divided into HW, Participation and tests. he also gives u review tests, which is helpfull.seems like he is new in teaching field. has quality to be a Great Prof.
good teacher but a homework is due every day of class. he wastes a lot of time in class doing stupid examples that are not worth it. good class but a looooott of work
He is a stud. One of the few profs that have not given up. He cares and sets up class so it is hard to fall behind unless you ignore assignments and fail to attend. LOTS OF WORK but nothing is too hard and if you do the work you are well prepared. Available for anything any time. Will guide you on difficult concepts. SDSU's best!
Great professor, good class. Lots of work, but it's really worth it. Class is passable. Be sure to do the online quizes they help you for class discussion, tests, etc. He does a good job of making the subject interesting and entertaining. I highly recommend you take Ryan for Fin 326.
Txtbook is useless, photocopy some pgs. First 2/3 of class was very easy, last 1/3 too much stuff going on. Lots of online HW, but you can re-take it as many times until you're satisfied w/ your grade. Don't bother to read articles just know the basic content. Also pay attention to commercials he shows. 4 quizzes, drops lowest, 1 mid, & final
You couldn't ask for an easier class. You're virtually guaranteed an A.
Great teacher! Doesn't just read out of the book. Knows how to make the material relavent and intresting.
Great teacher, tough subject. He's very helpful and always available. My only wish was more practice problems during class. Tests are hard, but are just like the homework.
Great guy who really cares about his students. However, he sucks at his job. Too much busy work, required attendance, boring lectures that leave you contemplating suicide. I learned nothing in this guys class. He just plain sucks!!!
I ended up with a C but thought I was going to have a D. That was exciting. He knows A LOT about the subject, he just doesn't always teach it with clarity. He also has somewhat of an attitude problem and isn't the most approachable of teachers.
If you have to take finance I suggest taking him because I have heard nightmares from other professors. He knows what he's talking about, the class is not easy but he has mercy on his students. I would take it over again, busy work and all because he gave me a C, and I thought I failed!!
This professor was awesome! He really cares about his students and he goes out of his way to help us get make good grades. I highly recommend taking him for this class.
Hands down, best professor in SDSU finance department. Ryan teaches almost same courses with Seiver, you should stick with professor Ryan. He knows REAL WORLD FINANCE KNOWLEDGE and he is a great person in general. I worked very hard and end up an "A".
Great professor, really wants to you to learn the financial concepts. Has sample tests that help you a lot when you study. HW every week though.
Fabulous teacher. Don't expect an A. The material is hard, the exams are hard, but you will really learn this stuff. He keeps it interesting and her really really cares.
I took Frank for Fin 321, 323 & 326 and got an "A" in all three classes. Be ready for a lot of homework, but also be ready to learn. If you have any questions, he is always ready to help either by email, or by his cell phone.
WOW - tough class - good guy but keep up with it! He won't wait for you & doesn't suffer fools
Mr. Ryan is a very good teacher and I had Finance 321, 323, and 326 with him. I am currently taking 325 with him too. His classes are pretty easy. Private finance tutoring is not necessary.

SUX. classroom grade depends on how often you verbally contribute in class. basically, you get rewarded for asking dumb questions and making it harder for everyone else to learn. also grades hw, which he states himself is "more of a measure of your ability to plan your schedule" than actually grading you on the material. what an idiot. fire him!
Very knowledgeable, but all grades are curve-based. Since every aspect of the grade is compared to the whole class, it ends up being pure competition. Normally I don't mind some curves, but half the class has taken FIN courses that I haven't yet taken, so they have a clear advantage in grasping the material. Change the unfair grading policy!
This class is hard even with the help of an awesome tutor. We cover soooo much material that it's almost impossible to keep up. If you want an advantage over other students in the class, I strongly recommend private tutoring to gain an edge. It has worked beautifully for me.
Good professor. Difficult subject for me but he is very knowledgable and made the class interesting. Willing to help students grasp concepts in office hours or e-mail. Lots of homework. Tests are brutal.
Ryan is the best finance professor at State. Covers a LOT of information, assigns homework every week, 4 quizzes, and very hard midterm and final. Grades on a curve. This professor will teach you more than anyone else and class is fun. Make sure to attend, because your participation grade is based on your keypad questions in class.
The hardest class at SDSU. SO SO SO MUCH WORK. Have fun cause your life will revolve around nothing but Finance. You will eat and sleep finance. You will be sleeping and wake up and say " OH****! Finance! " I built a tent and parked it outside the Finance department. Prepare to have your butt handed over to the Finance Gods. Get my drift?
Frank Ryan is TRASH (I got an A in case you were wondering). Can you say ANAL RETENTIVE? 2 hr final & midterm without restroom breaks. Assigns ranks based on how many stupid questions you ask that interfere with other's learning. Hm...Here's an interesting question: How does he rank the 30 or so students that never spoke a single sentense in class?
Professor Ryan is a terrible teacher. He is not flexible with his students. He assigns WAY TOO Much homework for a single semester class. FIN 325 should be a two semester class. His lectures are incomprehensible. Only way to learn anything is READ and STUDY the book throughly. You do not need the professor for this.
Professor Ryan is the best teacher i have ever had. FYI, this class is only for serious Finance Majors. If you don't want to put in the time, take one of the other 325 teachers. This class will kill you if you're not 110% committed. But if you do put in the time and effort, this teacher will definitely get you prepared for 423 and beyond.
Best teacher I have ever taken. Nice guy, knows his stuff, cares about you. Will know your name by second session! Take him... but you better be serious!
Frank Ryan is the best professor at State. Not because he is easy, not because he is funny, because he knows how to TEACH! This is the one class that has been WORTH my tuition... remember we are here to learn. He puts a lot of effort in preparing, organizing, working with the students until they get it. His class will set you apart, take it!
If you are looking for an easy A, this course is not for you. Prof. Ryan's class is not easy! As any upper division class, it requires effort and dedication. However, if you care about your education; you will take prof. Ryan's FIN 321 and 325 classes. The results will be very rewarding!!
Prof. Ryan is the best finance prof. at SDSU. He challenges students to learn, yet he wants them to succeed. I took his FIN 321 & 325 courses. His classes may be frustrating, but students leave with so much knowledge. To whoever commented on 12/14, I must agree. We pay tuition to learn, not to listen to a student disrupt the professor & the class.
The greatest teacher I have ever had. Keeps you focused, is extremely organized, and actually tests you on what he teaches. You get to use a crib-sheet on the tests. I wish I could have Frank for all of my classes.
Great professor, works just as hard as students do by consistently updating articles and test.
Best teacher at SDSU! you will learn alot in this class but it is not easy. Make sure to take him if you are a finance major. Dont take moon song
Awesome teacher! Lots of work every week but it pays off. He makes you actually learn the material not just to pass his tests which are hard but are exactly from what he teaches. There are plenty of opportunities for points outside of tests. The book is essential. I learned more from him than any other class thus far in college. Plan to work hard!
One of the best professors i have had in college. Take him if you can!
I recommend him, but he is flaky. He avoids conflict whenever possible. Study and you will pass the class.
Lots of homework and studying. Tests and quizzes are really hard, even with a curve most of the class is still not passing. Nice and likable guy but not worth it. Take it with someone else.
This is not "jazzy" topic and if the student is not prepared to read and devote time to study; this is not the class or professor to take. Lots of homework and studying. Tests and quizzes are challenging, but you know in advance what to expect.
Time spent in class was worthless. I had to learn everything on my own. Test questions are from the homework and class quizzes but still very hard. Nice guy though
Not a finance major? Don't take Ryan. Great teacher for those who are and a really nice guy, but it is pointless working so hard for a C if it isn't your major. Not a fundamental class, be prepared to read the book cover to cover, doing a lot of weekly homework and studying. Class time is pointless, but mandatory for participation. Don't take him!
Course material is challenging, but Ryan is a great teacher. Midterm was tough, and then his final was pretty easy. Overall, great class. I will be taking him for 659 next.
He is extremely nice guy. I would recommend him to any frds. You have to read the textbook though, if you do so, be fine on quizzes, weekly hw. 2 tests, some questions are taken from old quizzes n hw. Sometimes, class is boring. attending is a MUST cause you may lose pts from Iclicker and participation pts. No curve. got B-
Prof. Ryan is an awesome professor, one of the best at SDSU for Finance. You have to show up for class, use iClicker, and be active in class for participation pts. The class is semi-tough, with 3-4 quizzes, midterm and Cumul. final, but he curves. I got a B in the class, and if I can, then seriously you can!
The subject material is challenging, but Frank is a great lecturer. He tries to make the class engaging and fun; you can tell he really cares about the students. Wish he would slow down a bit, it was hard to digest the material and take notes at the same time.
I've taken Frank twice and he's the best Finance teacher at SDSU. His classes are interesting and he doesn't just teach from powerpoints. Tests are long and challenging but it's curved and everything on the tests has been covered in class before. He has real world experience and is more than willing to help you as you start looking at jobs.
Great class. I would take any class from him again. Guest speaker is one of outstanding of the class. The material itself is hard. Class attending is useful. He made the material become easier. It is lots of works. Want to beat the class? Have to work harder.
If you are a finance major and wants to be financial analyst in the future. Frank is the way to go. He is the best lecturer in the SDSU Finance department and sets up a great plan to make you succeed in his class. Once again, if you serious about your future in finance, TAKE HIM!! Whatever class it may be...
Ryan will not teach so you can get a grade, but will teach so that you know what you are doing. This does make the class much more difficult, but it pays off with the knowledge you take away from it. He is a must take if you are serious about your education. If you do not care or see yourself in corporate finance, he may be overkill though.
I enjoyed attending this class for one reason: Professor Ryan. He makes learning fun. He is thorough in his teaching, clear, and extremely helpful. He cares about his students and works to help them understand the material. He does require a clicker which isn't ideal, but it's helpful in the long run. Test are very challenging, but he does curve!
Great teacher, makes the class exciting and engaging. He never teaches off power points and is always doing fun activities in class. You do have to study a lot for the quizzes and test in order to do well but he allows a page of notes.
Amazing professor, tough class. Seems like he actually enjoys his job & that's why he teaches so well. He offers you the previous years quizzes and tests to study for your quizzes+tests. They are always very similar. 2 tests- both pretty tough. Online book, I thought it was necessary to fully understand. Only negative is he requires participation.
He is one of the most inspirational teacher i've ever had. If your looking for a easy teacher then don't take him, but if you truly want to learn then he's your best bet. i took him for Fin 321 & Fin 325 and i loved it. 4 quizzes ( 6 T/F 6 Multiple) drop 1. 1 midterm and 1 comprehensive final. theres homework online every week.
He's pretty funny and he makes what he's teaching relevant with several clear real life examples. Teaches it in an engaging way. He has even owned his own companies and has experience. Never really studied and got a B so if you do, then it should be an easy A. Oh, and I never bought the textbook or online practice code either so that was a factor.
The course is supposed to increase our capacity to make decisions in a global economy. However, it is just Econ 101 with absurd amounts of busy work homework. This class is boring and he shows a lack of understanding of economic theory. As a non-mba grad student, If this class is a reflection on the bus. prog. I will steeply lower my view of MBA's.
Frank Ryan, you left me emotionally drained after every class. You placed a gnarly challenge in front of me and I accepted. Hardest C, (guessing) I've ever worked for and felt like a million bucks after. I got my monies worth. Everyone who has had him will never regret it. Remember, one thing at a time with his class. Best instructor in Finance.
Frank is one of my favorite professors because I feel he genuinely cares about students, and gives real world and personal examples to every thing we talk about. But the class has too much content, so it's at a frantic pace with a lot of homework . As well as a big group project at the end.
Professor Ryan, He is a great professor that genuinely cares for his student. Through hard work he paves your way for success, but note you have to work for it. He prepares you for the real world as much as possible and brings to class realism. He has a good heart!
Great professor. Make no mistake though, this class is hard. Never read the textbook, just payed attention and took notes in class. Remember the key points of the articles covered in class. Notes are allowed so be sure to write down equations and the steps to solving them. Equations covered in class will likely be on the exam. Curved at the end.
So far this has been the hardest class I've taken at state. The final is impossible and cumulative of the whole semester. Do all of the hw, definetely show up every class and participate/do iclicker points because midterm was hard and final was torture. Great teacher but exams are really hard, not meant to finish them during the time given.
Really great teacher. Interesting lectures. Homework heavy but all done online and is not that time consuming but is assigned every week. Exams are somewhat difficult but definitely fair. If you like discussion there is plenty of that. Not a fan of econ but I really enjoyed this class.
The lectures will cover the homework problems and mostly focus on discussion of current events. Be sure to take detailed notes as most of the heavily weighted test questions are based on the discussions in class. The homework is very heavy in volume, but not difficult.
Very difficult class but worth it! Expect to put in the most work out of all of your classes... around 8 hours a week of effort. He knows his material and is super helpful if you meet with him. Would take his class again.
Take Ryan if you're really interested in working in finance!! Hardest class ive taken but well worth the effort! You will be going to bed dreaming about finance after this class. Tests are tough and long(2tests). Homework due every few days plus many diff variations of hw. Participation matters. Grades on a weighted average for each grade category
You will live corporate finance for the four months you take his class. He will make you work very hard for your grade, but you will learn a lot in this class. I was hesitant to take him knowing how tough his class would be, but I'm glad I did. Best professor I have had in college. Period.
If you live and breath finance and are finance fanatic, then take Ryan. You'll be a slave of this class for the semester due to the amount of work. Midterm and final are ridiculously hard. He's extremely smart in finance, funny professor, and caring.
Ryan is a GREAT professor, enjoyed class. Your life will be corporate finance for the semester. I put in countless hours studying for his class. Practice exams are similar to actual, switching up T/F to ensure you know the matl. Had to read, lots of hmwrk. I will say that Ryan adequately prepared me for the finance world. Good 4 Finance nerds
Ryan is an awesome professor in Finance 325, best, ever.
Ryan has a great personality and extensive knowledge. However he does not know how to teach his concepts. Therefor his tests seem somewhat confusing.
This is the best professor you have the opportunity to take at San Diego State. You will actually learn and feel comfortable applying the material anywhere. This won't be easy but he is very fair test wise/isn't looking to screw you like many others at SDSU. Show up and put in the work, you'll learn a ton and have a strong chance of a high grade.
He really is a smart professor and wants his students to learn but when youre on the other end and dont understand something he isnt willing to help you. He is an unfair grader. He took 10 points off my exam when I had everything correct. Make sure to compare your grades to other students.
It is fascinating not only to learn CobbDouglas production function from slicing a melon but also to apply what we learned into real-life. Beacon Simulation project is a good practice to integrate different course materials. Besides, Prof Ryan is accessible outside the class. If you are interested in Fin, Dr. Ryan is a great professor to learn fro
You guys ever wonder what it was like for those brave American soldiers to storm the beaches of Normandy. Thats what it feels like going into a Ryan exam. Best finance professor at state though . Dont forget USA came out on top !
Class material itself was easy but he will make the class extremely hard for you his exams and quizzes are ridiculous and we spent the class time doing things that did not prepare us for the exam. A plus review did not even help just show up to class try and participate and study as much as possible!! Go to office hours
best professor I had in the Finance Department. He will recap and teach you FIN 323 and 325 combine, The workload was manageable. He made hard financial concepts easier to understand in depth. Highly recommend if you want to build a strong foundation, be ready to put in the work tho! You'll get what you put in.
Ryan knows what he is doing ensures that we comprehend the conetn. He teaches the necessary tools to do well in the real world. I had an internship @ a fund management firm in Singapore, and everything I learned in that class applied to what I was doing at that job. Stay on top of HW & make sure you study his previous tests/quizzes to do well.
Best professor I have ever had. I learned so much that was useful in 423 and even in future job interviews. He is a super nice guy and cares a lot for his students. I would take all my finance classes with him if I were able to. Just make sure you read the textbook and go to class otherwise the quizzes and tests will be rough
I had high hopes for Professor Ryan. This is one of the most toughest classes that I've taken. He assumes that you have taken BA 323, which is not even a prerequisite so he will not even lecture well for topics saying, "You gives should already know this."I have taken BA 323 and Fin 325 and I was still not prepared for this class.
Doesn't really teach but has predictable quizzes and exams. You get cheat sheets for quizzes and exams and you need to study all the hw problems because that's where he pulls questions from. Final was extremely hard though so not sure what my grade is at the moment, this is the hardest class I've ever taken so you will need to prioritize studying
terrible professor, avoid it at all costs. Everyone did terribly on the midterm and final exam and he talked about helping everyone out by rounding up their grades and completely lied. Terrible at explaining lectures, can't understand his handwriting, and goes way to fast for anyone to keep up with him. He should be fired
Professor Ryan was overall a good teacher. This was probably one of the hardest classes in my college journey so be prepared. It was very math heavy which I wasn't warned about before. 5 quizzes and he dropped the lowest, these were 12-question quizzes half multiple choice, and T/F. Midterm & Final were very difficult with filling in questions.
I would strongly encourage you to take another finance elective, this is by far the hardest finance course that I have taken at SDSU, he quickly goes over very hard to understand concepts and gives you quiz and exam questions that require a deep understanding of the concept. He is a very intelligent guy but not my cup of tea for a professor.
This is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. We have a test basically every other week and he expects us to remember every single detail said in class and will be asked on the test. We have a test and the midterm in the same week with 1 day to study in between. If there is any chance for another professor take them instead.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. He teaches differently from any other BA 323 class and it is awful. I have never studied so hard in my life and gotten such bad grades. My friends in other BA 323 couldn't even recognize the material. He is a good teacher though, but I wouldn't recommend. This class made me want to switch my major.
Professor Ryan is a finance whiz who really knows his stuff. His lectures are engaging, and he makes complex concepts easier to grasp. The workload is heavy, but if you stay on top of it and utilize resources like unstuck study, you can succeed in this class. Highly recommended for finance nerds.
Great professor, great class. Ryan definitely knows what he is talking about; lectures are engaging and he uses real world examples. Does not use finance calculators, so if you're not strong in math I would not recommend Prof. Ryan. Tests are difficult, but he is generous with partial credit. Would recommend this professor.
I would highly recommend this class IF AND ONLY IF you are a finance major. Professor Ryan is incredibly smart and a great professor. The material is important if you want to go into finance. There is a reason his class is way harder than the others: you actually learn and remember the important technicals. He is the best professor I have ever had.
Love the guy but this class is tough. Easily the hardest course I have taken at SDSU. The reading for each assignment is intense and you end up studying nonstop only to guess on much of the exam. Very few students even finish in time. He knows a ton and teaches a lot, but with no slides you rely entirely on huge readings.
Professor is very knowledgable but the class itself is extremely hard. You have a midterm, final, and quizzes basically every other week. You have to constantly read the textbook in this class in order to do well and he does not teach you how to use a financial calculator.
