Obsessed w/Charlie Chaplin - Don't expect too many new movies.
really hard tests...studied for it more than anything else that semester.
study for test, interesting class
This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He would help you, but you have to know the book front to back to do good on the tests.

I went to class every time, studied none, and did fine. Just take good notes and read occasionally the part of the book that corresponds to the lecture. I made an A, and studied very little. He always had a slight curve, and it pulled me up, got like a 90
Great teacher, interesting class and very easy, especially in the summer. You can miss quite a bit and it's ok, can still get an A.
SO SO HARD. I made a F and I'm a strait A student. It's long and can tend to be boring. Sometimes it's not though. He's a nice man but don't take this class!!!
Frank does a good job explaining everything in the course and his exams were so easy since they were straight from his essays. It was a great class and I recommend taking his course.IT was very helpful in interpreting films and looking at them differently
The class as a whole is interesting. However, I warn those who are considering taking the honors drill for honors credit. Think twice unless spending the entire semester planning a Chaplin conference and writing a ten page Chaplin paper sounds like fun.
study for the tests and they are NOT HARD. regular class is very interesting and enjoyable, but don't take honors. who wants to go to the Charlie Chaplin Symposium we have to plan? very hard to get through to him and his blank stare(mhmm, mhmm...)
Some of the test questions are out of no where, and you're not going to watch any films that were made after 1940, but it was still a pretty easy class. Just bring your pillow.
This is ridiculous. I'm a C student, I've got an A in this class, and I NEVER took notes...I just read the online material and studied before tests (which are multiple choice). It's a big class, though, so sit near the front. And you watch Memento(2000).

Though classes could be a bit dry, I often found the films very interesting. The key to doing well in his classes is studying the reading. His book for 1003 really is quite awful.
Good teacher. I think he could choose some better films. I learned a new way to look at film, and that's always good. Tests are straight from the readings. Needs more extra credit opps b/c it's hard to get to the ones offered.
Nice guy, kinda boring. The honors drill was a nightmare...we did alfred Hitchcock so the movies weren't terrible, but i was in that class from 2pm until sometimes 6pm. long time to sit and pretend to care.
Loved the class. He's one of the best professors I've had.
I hate this guy! I thought this class would just be a blow off class. But his test are insane! This was the hardest class I ended up taking last semester. Make sure you do all the bonus and extra credit or it will be very hard to do well in the class. Stacy his TA is also a b****. TO PASS=NO SCHEIDE
great professor. loves films and is very passionate about them. the class is easy. its a little hard to sit thru for 3 hours, but i found it to be relaxing to watch movies in the afternoons during the week. can get a little boring but would really make you appreciate films more. honors drill was fun
Horrible... HORRIBLE. Do NOT take this class. The tests are ridiculous. This is a core class that is required and it is way too difficult. His TA is not helpful or nice at all. Seriously, DO NOT take this class. I have a C right now... ridiculous for a basic class. I dread this class every week.
WONDERFUL!
given that no one that takes this class is a film major, my thoughts would be to make it easier. his test are ridiculous...and there are a total of 200 points possible in the class so unless you have an EXTREME passion for film and charlie chaplin then turn and RUN like simba in the lion king!!!!!!

This guy is an idiot with no life. this classes are VERY HARD. I am an A student and he makes film to be calculus. EVERYBODY hates him. All we do in class is watch Charlie Chaplin OVER AND OVER AGAIN! You have to know so much about Chaplin, This professor ADORES Chaplin... almost in a sick way. Take this class from the other professor, I beg you (t
umm he is EVIL!! dont take honors film lecture! ahhh he's SO mean!! so first of all our assignment was to plan Indigenous people's of america's film festival . . nobody cared one bit about it but we HAD to do that! and then when we signed for comitee's he wouldnt give us ANY direction whatsoever he would just be like uh ok publicize and we were like UHHH we're all freshman who dont know what were doing help and he as like studder studder NO! ahh he's mean and didnt help us one bit!! DONT TAKE HONORS FILM LE
I LOATHE this evil man. He told me to make a list. I asked him for the information. He sent me incomplete information. I sent him an incomplete list along with a request for the rest of the information. He chewed me out having a list that was in a word...incomplete. If you take this class DO NOT TAKE SCHEIDE. He will NOT help you!!
Takes his job way to seriously... film lecture was suppose to be a blowoff class, not with Scheide. his test are cummulative over the whole semester, which is next to impossible. Has a fetish with Charlie Chaplin in a sick way. Not a blowoff class.
i dont know whats wrong with these people...this class is so easy...he gives SOOOO much extra credit its impossible to get below a B...yeah some of the movies are boring...but seriously how easy can a class be by watching movies the entire time? i recommend this class and this teacher...
Ignore all of these impetent idiots that are whining about not being able to get an A or B. Go to ALL bonus opportunities and use CTRL + F on his essays and correctly answer the essay bonus questions. This = A. Period.
I have to agree with the other honors students, the extra hour is ridiculous and we dont get credit for it, he doesn't help just dictates and if he doesn't like it your not getting a good grade, everything and everyone is compared to chaplin BEWARE take the other professor's class not scheide!
The fact of the matter is: Scheide cannot teach. The sheer number of extra credit opportunities is rediculous, and you shouldn't HAVE to do them to get an A. His tests focus on minute details in his (very poorly written) essays, rather than broader concepts as in other CORE classes. I got an A, and I still say: Scheide sucks.
do not take this class with him. you will regret it. each test consists of info over 100-150 pages typed no margins of which he himself has copywritten. the fact that you must do all the extra credit to get any kind of an A shows a lack of teaching skills. film lecture i've heard is fun with other teachers; but trust me, definitely not frank.

Knows the material - in fact an expert! One of the best professors in the communication department and truly cares about his students. Very helpful and a very nice person.
Mr.Schiede is so nice! He's a very smart old man, loves teaching this class, and very helpful! I loved his class! Go to class bc the movies are great (even the silent ones if you open your mind a little) and read the essays for the exams(that's all they're over)! Loved him and loved the class!
NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS!!! It is awful. Frank writes all of the course content himself and then tests you on the stupidest details. The honors part is the biggest waste of time. You have to stay for an extra hour after and already 3 hour class. You accomplish absolutely nothing in this class. DO NOT TAKE IT!!!!
It's easy to get an A in the class, but it's not worth the torture! He lectures verbatim from the essays (written by Scheide himself) that you should have read before class, thus making his lectures redundant and boring. His test questions are over inane facts that may help in a game of Trivial Pursuit, but not in understanding film as meduium.
I liked the class, but I really enjoy film and actually have some interest in becoming a film maker. For others that do not share Schide's passion for film, it will probably be a really grueling class. Its three hours long and you watch alot of Charlie Chaplin films. There is lots of reading involved too.
The overall class is long but interesting. He has very good sense of humar (somewhat sarcastic). The test are somewhat difficult but he is willing to work with you!
Dry. His test are outrageous. Films are boring. Take the other section. They watch much better films. I lost respect for him when he let the class leave because time had expired then gave a quiz to a handful of students. He is a dirty old man. He knows what hes talking about, but not a good teacher. Do all the extra creadit and you should be fine.
Tough to follow but gives enough extra credit to suceed.

Just have to read his on-line essays and watch movies to get an "A" in the class.
The class itself can be extremely long, but it's not hard at all.
The class is long and can drag on for a while, but it definitely isn't hard. It's possibly one of the most stress-free classes I've had. He obviously knows what he's talking about and likes to talk about it too. It can be boring sometimes, but it isn't bad overall. It should be an easy A if you study for a few minutes before the test.
will not possible help you with your grade or grade on a fair system. ridiculously hard for an intro level communications course. i did the work and made an A until the final which pulled me less than a % point under an A and received a B.
terrible professor. no help and a grading curve that is skewed and does not make any since. do not get anywhere close to this class, especially if you were hoping to make an easy A in what should be an easy 1000 level class. down with mr. scheide.
Either read the essays or go to lecture, either will work. His movie choices are more black & white and silent than necessary, but it's an okay class. Pretty easy.
I do not recommend taking this class unless you are very interested in film. Scheide is very knowledgeable in the subject but does not realize that it's an intro class and the students don't care. His tests are way too in depth for an introductory course. Also, the class is extremely long and he gives random quizzes.
Not a hard teacher at all. You just have to read a few essays outside of class (thats why people think he might be hard). Yea, it might be best to get another instructor, but his class really doesn't hurt. Just read an essay a week and do the extra credit and you will have an A.
International Film - requires reading subtitles on a lot of really old classics. Can be a bit grueling because of the style of films. Dr. Scheide is one of the sweetest professor's by far! Awesome guy. Knows his stuff and helpful too! Tests are essay format. Must read text and know 3-4 countries discussed. You will be given options! Take him!!!
no textbook required, blackboard notes, always available for office hours and willing to help, very knowledgable and intelligent, class is long but interesting, grades fair and curves, would recommend him especially for American film. I had him for that class also and loved it.
I loved intro to film and look forward to taking American Film Survey next semester!
I wouldn't take him again. The class is insanely long, and this guy is not the best teacher. There are 3 multiple choice tests and they're not particularly easy, given the material. If you read the essays he posts on blackboard, you'll be fine. His lectures are straight from the essays and makes coming to class worthless, but gives random quizzes.
Do not take him.
Film from its inception to present. Tests and random quizzes are challenging, but if you come to class, pay attention, and study his online essays, you'll do fine. No textbook required. It's a film class, so be prepared to sit for an hour at a time. He's very helpful, cheerful. I highly recommend Dr. Scheide if you're interested in Film.
Very nice, respectful, and helpful. The class is 3 hours though, which is the worst part. Sometimes it's a bit boring, but it is worth it to go to class. He will randomly assign quizzes or give points for attending.
He is out to get you.
The class is three hours long and you start out with silent films and work your way to more recent films. He writes essays for reading, but they're very long and redundant. If you try to take notes in class, he goes way too fast to get the information down and gets upset when you ask him to slow down. This class isn't worth it
The class is too long, and most of the movies are boring. Tests come from the powerpoints in class and the essays that Scheide himself wrote. Tests are very difficult. There are three random quizzes. He gives out some extra credit. Avoid this class if possible.
Avoid. It is too in depth/uninteresting for an intro course, and note taking is a pain b/c he goes too fast, and his essays/powerpoints contain a bunch of useless info. I took honors apparently just to have to write a position paper that is failed everytime, even when I know its better, both in grammar and content, than the online ones he writes.
The bottom line is this: if you have a genuine interest in film and want to learn from someone who knows what he's talking about, take Scheide. He's wonderful. Don't like cinema? Don't take him because you'll think it's boring.
Awesome class. He knows film. This class is more about film as an art, so if you don't want to watch old movies then I would suggest another prof. If you're into film then this is the class for you. I made a B, but I was okay with that cause I slacked off some. You can also bring in snacks during movies and stuff. Really enjoyed it, No textbook!
This class is soo easy. You watch lots of (older) movies that get more interesting as the class goes on. You take lots of notes during class, but almost everything is common sense. I seriously study 15 minutes before exams and still get As. It's a long class, but attendance isn't mandatory. Just stay long enough for the notes and you'll do fine.
My favorite class of my first semester. That is because i love film. if you dont love it, then you probably wont love the class. its easy to make an a if you do all of the work outside of class and study. i think scheide is an interesting pofessor and he knows and loves his subject. great class
Very easy class. He gives online essays on blackboard. Just spend an hour before each class reading the one for that week and you will have everything. No need to take notes if you do the reading. For tests, study the bolded terms from the reading and know directors and films covered in class/reading, and you should make an easy A.
Very easy class. He gives online essays rather than a textbook. Also, lecture is verbatim from the essays. He also gives A LOT of extra credit points that really help out. The only thing is that a lot of the test questions follow the "all except" or "none of the above" format and can be pretty specific to the films we watch.
Never took him for Film Lecture but took Int'l Film with him and loved it. Don't know what the fuss is about. If you don't enjoy film and film history then you probably shouldn't be taking this course in the first place. He's really nice and really helpful.
This was the most useless class I have taken at the university. He is an extreme stickler and his level of clarity is absolutely terrible. I am a huge film fanatic, yet I had a horrible time in his lectures. He is super boring. Would not recommend this professor for anyone...
Professor Scheide's enthusiasm for the content of his course is so refreshing. Not all movies he screens are popular today, but he shows ones that display the development of the film industry. He does not distinguish information that will be on the test so read the essays. Also, attendance is not required but he gives pop quizzes, so go to class!
This Class was terrible. Don't take it.
He loves his film. Don't get the book if you are not in honors. Tests and lectures are straight from the essays he posts. Listen in lecture or study essays and you are good. Nice A
thought this was going to be an easy A...not at all. Dont take him if you have the option.
This class was life changing for me. I literally dived into my MA in the dept of communication without the slightest inkling of what my interests were. and the American Film Survey class changed everything for me. I learned so much about the history of film and essentially starting taking a keen interest in older films. HE IS AN ABSOLUTE SWEETHEART
I loved Dr. Scheide's class! He was an amazing teacher and he genuinely cares about the subject, all while understanding that some people could care less. He is also super easy to get along with!
Here's the deal. If you like film and are interested in that then take this class. He is a film historian and is passionate about this subject as well as very knowledgeable of it. If you are looking for an easy blow off A then do not take this class. He is very nice and easy to get along with. Lots of extra credit chances too. 3 hr class once a wk.
Frank is really nice. His TA Ketaki however is awful. And she's rude and nasty. Frank is really interested in his subject, which is great and all, but this was my hardest class. If you're looking for the easy A that it sounds like this class is, go to a different teacher. This class if for those who love film. Frank was nice, hated the class.
Frank really loves the subject and is extremely knowledgable about film. He is a great professor. Tests were somewhat tricky. LEARN the essays well. Also do the extra credit. I definitely had to study for the tests. Some of the films in the beginning were boring, but they get more exciting towards the end of the semester. Overall enjoyed the class.
He's a good teacher and offers some extra credit. Tests are pretty tricky. Go to class because there are sometimes pop quizzes. The beginning of the semester is boring (old stuff), but it gets better with the newer films. Scheide is helpful and very interesting.
He is the sweetest person ever, but this class is extremely difficult. If you are truly interested in the subject, he is a great professor. He writes all of the material you read for the class and is extremely knowledgable. This is definitely not a blow-off class though; I spent as much time studying for this as I did my pre-med courses.
This class is not the blow off class you think it will be.. Super long, no textbook (you have tests over essays he wrote), tests are very tricky. Movies do get better as the semester goes along though.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He makes you watch the most boring lectures & movies & then makes you write the LONGEST essays on them. He corrects your paper like an English assignment as well as what you have to say. He takes this class WAY too seriously for a basic course on film & isn't worth the stress/time of the assignments. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
As a senior already accepted into grad school I say he is the worst teacher ever at the U of A. Took online class and he would not release the weeks work during the weekend so you only had 5 days to work on it. He is not flexible at all. Talked with him and was rebuffed at ever suggestion. 2pg papers due every week after watching 2 to 3 hour of lec
DO NOT TAKE! You have to watch the most boring films until the couple weeks of the semester. Each film is like 2 hours long AT LEAST. He says your papers have to be a min. of 2 pages. Mine were ALWAYS like 10 just to answer all parts of the prompt and get all credit. SO AWFUL! 10 page essays every week is not worth a fine arts credit. AVOID!
People complain like crazy about how this class wasn't the "easy A" they were hoping for. Here's the key- actually GO to class and STAY the whole time! Also, he is soft spoken so sit near the front!! If you actually pay attention this class is a breeze.
all of the assigned reading is only papers that he has written in the past. The dates and information he gives in class are different than the information he provides in the readings. The lectures are long and the movies are longer. The tests are easy enough when you complete the readings. Attendance is Necessary every class!!!
2 tests, a final, and one paper. If you do the readings and talk about what the authors said on the test you'll get an A. He's not a hard grader. But class is so boring. We discussed the films and then watched boring documentaries. He never lectured. You learn everything from the reading material. But the subject is interesting
I was a little frustrated with this class. But overall I enjoyed it. Interesting material. If you read everything and write about it on the tests and your paper, you should get an A in the class
Dr. Scheide is a pretty boring professor. He doesn't really lecture.. When he does, he talked for maybe 10 minutes max. The rest of the time in class you discuss the films or watch a documentary. Not a hard grader
Lectures are long. You have to read essays written by him and theyre like 30 pages each. No spark notes. He says there "extra credit quizzes" but they count against your grade if you miss them. Do yourself a favor and take music lit because 3 hours of this class sucks.
Interesting subject, boring professor. Barely lectures, you watch boring docs in class. You'll learn everything outside of class
He writes all his own readings, and each reading is long.
I was excited about this class but its the worst class I've ever taken. Your grade is determined on test grades which are essentially random film facts. I would have rather had a paper or two to be graded on. Tests without a study guide on seven 25+ page essays and eight films are not reasonable for a required class. Don't take this class.
He is a great teacher and really cares about the subject but the tests are hard. You have to go to class and pay attention to the movies you watch. Facts form the newer movies aren't covered in the essays. If you read the essays very carefully you will probably get an A. but seriously READ THE ESSAYS
A teacher that really cares about his subject. The class is an easy A if you take the time to read the bold print in the essays. Take this class in the summer if you can to avoid a 3 hour lecture in the fall and spring semesters.
He's the worst. I could've come up with a better grading system than his 200 points a semester when I was 10 years old, and if I had 3 times the amount of chromosomes I do. He doesn't care at all about students or their grades, he's most likely on tenure. Worst teacher I've had ever, period. Do not take his class under any circumstances.
He is a great man who is a leading authority on Charlie Chaplin. His eloquent lectures leave his class in awe of his brilliance and mystique.
Class is pretty boring at first. He knows a lot about Charlie Chaplin. The extra point quizzes are super super easy and there's 12 of them, plus some other opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester depending on what's going on around campus.
There are assigned essay readings every week. These consist of 30 or more pages of reading and you are expected to take notes on it. The topics are very difficult and not interesting what so ever. He is an extremely nice man, however he is not very good at lectures. The way I figured out to how pass was to read the essay's and take notes during lec
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS MAN. DO. NOT. DO. IT. Unless you want to complain to your friends and family every day for 16 weeks I suggest you take this with another teacher. Grading system is the worst EVER and his tests are absolutely ridiculously hard. There are no words for how hard this class is. Its film lecture, not rocket science.
Film lecture was hard but not hard. If you do not read the assigned reading for the class that day it will be hard to pass. I loved the lectures and it was easy to follow in class and take notes. I did not read outside of class and that is why it was hard for me. You will complain about the class every week. Despite the class, he is a good man.
One of the most remarkable instructors I have had the pleasure of knowing and working for.
This man is amazing!!!! You have to be interested in Film to enjoy his class, his tests are very hard but as long as you do the readings and watch the movies, you will succeed. I talk about this class all the time, I learned so much and if you are willing to keep an open mind and pay attention you will be satisfied.
Horrible Professor. Disorganized. Contradicting information everywhere. Will tell you something won't be on the test..... then it's on the test. I STRONGLY discourage anyone from taking any of his courses.
Read the Essays. They are long, but his tests are very heavy on them. If you do this, and study his lectures, you will be fine. THIS IS NOT A BLOWOFF CLASS.
Scheide writes ALL the essays that the tests are over. There are 3 tests all semester, and then the final. My class was from 2pm-4:50pm. You literally watch a movie the first hour and the rest you go over the movie and notes. This class may actually be interesting if he didn't show awful movies; other film lecture professors show interesting films
Great teacher, really nice guy. He's helpful if you go see him during his office hours. His tests are kind of difficult but just make sure you show up to class and do the reading and you'll be fine.
MOST BORING CLASS EVER
This class is very hard to stay awake in. IT IS THREE HOURS long and very difficult to understand. The tests are very detailed and the material is very broad. I would recommend taking this course just not from Professor Frank Scheide.
Incredibly long and boring class. Frank Scheide is a nice enough guy but lectures verbatim from the essays which are required reading. The most entertaining part is actually watching him fidget and fumble with the lights and computer! Grading is simple enough: Participation (showing up), quizzes, and Mid-Term/Final. Key to pass: read the essays!
Try to get a different teacher for this class. Other teachers show interesting movies and get study guides for the test. This is the most boring class and the tests are very broad and were hard to study for.
He is a good guy and very personable. BUT, if you expect to learn about anything after 1941, don't come here. The class played 4 movies with sound the entire semester. This course ought to be named "The Essentials of Charlie Chaplin" because that's about all we watched. Pretty disappointing to be honest.
Worst class I have ever taken in my life. He was not specific on what we need to do to prepare for tests, and is incredibly passionate about a dumb topic. As a business student, I think it is horrible that I had to take a fine arts class in the first place, so unless you are planning on majoring in film lecture, get out of this class.
The average student who struggles with this class expects it to be easy. This class is NOT "just watching movies." It is a prerequisite for many art/media majors; it isn't just for people who have a Fine Arts requirement. You will learn the basics of movies as a form of communication and art, and you'll learn the theories surrounding them.
This class might as well just be a study of Charlie Chaplin. Half of our semester was spent on one actor. I signed up thinking that we would explore breakthroughs in film and innovations in cinematography, instead, we watch silent movies for a couple months. The number of movies with sound that we watched can be counted on one hand. very boring.
I took Film Lecture during a 5 week summer session. Lot's of work!
He is the worst professor I have ever had. Do not take this course under any circumstances, because you will regret every second of it. All you watch is Charlie Chaplin films the entire semester, and every other professor that teaches this course is ten times easier.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. The classes are very boring and extremely long. It is very hard to study for the tests and other profs give tests reviews. He does not. You watch very old, boring movies while other film classes watch current movies. Not the worst class but not the best either.
The course I took with him was online. Maybe it's easier to be rude when you can't see the other person, but I was not impressed with him. He's a tough grader but always gives feedback. I felt like some of the grades I received weren't fair because I did as the assignment asked. Avoid taking this class from him at all cost.
Do not take this class. I took a very challenging semester of business classes this semester, and this was the only course I got a B in. No material for tests, and he punishes students for not having the same insanely weird passion for film that he has. I would do anything to go back and not take this course.
Just show up and do the reading; the tests are based strictly on the provided essays. The material is fun, and the tests are easy. Take it as a summer inter session if you can.
American Film 4143- Really interesting class, LOTS of material. He is not terribly forgiving if you slack. He does give plenty of feedback and overall is a fair minded professor. Very good material choices and lectures! Be prepared to work for it.
Notice that all the negative reviews for Professor Scheide are from COMM1003, an intro film class. These are nearly all freshman who expect to be spoon-fed an easy-A in a class that they expect to be easy. "It's about film, how hard could it be?" Professor Scheide is a very fair grader that only expects his students to act and preform like adults.
Took this as a 5-week summer course plus another one while working full time and raising a child. Yes there is reading material + quite a bit of work, but nothing I wouldn't expect from a normal college class. You get the grade you deserve, plain and simple! He grades fair and always gives feedback. Put in the effort and you'll do great.
Franks lectures are very boring. You cant keep up because he will read his slides quickly and then move on, so taking notes is very difficult. He writes his own essays which are all way too long to try to learn from. The test are very specific and are very difficult. I dont recommend this class to anyone.
The people who rate this class poorly expect this to be a blowoff class. It is harder than the other teachers and focuses heavily on older films. The essays have all the information in the lecture. The tests are multiple choice and are based on lecture, so if you pay attention in class, you don't need to read the essays. There is bonus points, too.
I loved. Dr Scheide! I came into the class expecting to hate it because I am a double science major. However, I thought it was a great basic intro to film, and I got three core credits out of it. Dr. Scheide is kind and passionate about what he teaches. Just do your work and you'll do fine.
Show up and get your participation points. The exams are straight from the essays he posts to blackboard. There is no reason to not get an easy A if you take notes over the essays and pay attention to the films shown in class
I've taken several classes with Dr. Scheide. He just expects you to pay attention and at least try to have a basic understanding of the reading. He cares about students and grades pretty easy on the essay tests in his upper level classes. Encourages discussion and truly wants to hear all points of view about a film. Great guy!
I really enjoyed my first class at Arkansas with Professor Scheide. I took him for intersession which was intense, but manageable for sure! He's straight forward, communicative, and provides great, classic movies as a part of the requirements. You're assigned 12 essays to read but they're identical to the lectures so just pay attention. Highly rec!
I had him during an intersession (May 2020) for 9 days total in the summer. I recommend taking the Intro to Film class as an intersession since he grades pretty easy on your essays then. Your exams are over what you watch and talk about in class. Pretty easy, but I have no clue if he operates the same for a regular semester course.
This class can be fun if you are a fan of cinema. Scheide is a pretty harsh grader and is super strict about discussion post responses. If you read his essays and incorporate their ideas into your papers, you will get a good grade. He loves Chaplin !
Not a bad class but it is a lot of work. You will read essays that Dr. Scheide wrote (usually around 20 pgs)weekly, watch a film, most weeks write a 3 page/900 word analysis of the film, & participate in a disc. post a few days a week. Really disliked how exams are only open for 24 hrs, esp for an online class. Essays are 6 pages/1800 words.
SO picky and hard grader. I was in his online class and the exams are on Fridays open from noon to midnight and they are 4 page essays - you do not know the essay questions beforehand. Something is due almost everyday and you watch at least 2 or 3 movies a week which would be fun if they were good movies that didn't put me to sleep.
All time favorite teacher, but will say that he does require attendance and does grade rather hard. STUDY for his exams or you will not pass. Overall, one of the most understanding and caring professors on this campus.
Professor Scheide had the best intersession class that this school offers. It was such an easy credit and he's passionate about what he does. The lectures were actually pretty interesting as well as most of the movies shown. Attendance is obviously mandatory for intersession. Great class overall and great teacher.
For this class it was Native Americans in Film. We had to buy 6 books for this class and Graduate level had to buy 7! This guy is super nice and is understanding but he expects way too much of you and will call on you in class.
Exams were harder than expected for a beginner film class and you have to understand technical aspects of film or he will count off
prof is pretty engaging and understanding, class is medium difficulty, attendance mandatory
Professor Scheide's film class is an engaging experience. While the exams can be challenging, staying on top of the readings and engaging in discussions helps. I found Unstuckstudy great for study prep alongside the textbook.
I have four college degrees, three of which are from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Scheide was a rare memorable bird.
