He definately knows his stuff. He doesn't come accross very well all of the time. Expects a lot from everyone. Expect to study. Grades only on tests and quizzes.
Brilliant Teacher, helpful, and nice. Exams are crazy. One tips is try to do the **most difficult ** questions and ask him if you dont know how to solve them
the worst teacher i ever had
This is the most difficult math course I have taken in my life. I had to seriously haul @ss to get that bare B. No curve. 60% is a C but be aware of how difficult it is to get even that far ...
This is the hardest teacher I have taken. He shows no eagerness to help anyone out of class. The tests are basically your grade in the class, so do yourself a favor and dont take him
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!..and if u have no choice but to take him make sure you do that extra credit probs thing because thats the only way you can possibly get a C or better!! NOT RECOMMENDED!!
The hardest teacher I have ever taken, brought my straight A's down with a C (only one A in class, 2 B's). You will study your ass off, and still fail.
Easy!!! I did no HW EVER. i slept 60% of the time, I crammed for each test the night before (and that means 2 hrs max of studying), and I got an A. LOL!
very hard, the person below me saying this class is easy is either a genius or full of bs.. be ready to study a LOT for this class. Covers way too much material too fast.
Extremely difficult! He expects you to know the material as if it's the only class you're taking. Don't take him...it'll only bring down your GPA!!!!!

breakdown.3 exams and a final.and a Lab thingy you must do every friday.he likes to use applications (word problems) on his test.for me,this class was hard!he's nice, but i didn't like his teachings.i was lost like every class session.i don't recomend him.
This was by far the hardest class I've ever taken in college. As a person, Mr. Soler is a nice, friendly guy but his tests, book, and teaching style are extremely difficult to comprehend. Only 1 A in our class, 2 B's, the rest C's, D's, and F's.
He is really smart himself, also fun to talk with. He covers materials WAY TOO FAST! He expects you to know everything, 3 midterms are really hard! However, he gives A for the course to whoever scores 90% on his final, which is not so impossible!
he's a nice guy, but that doesn't make up for all the sh*t i had to go through in his class.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN AT DEANZA. He's so hard, its unbelievable. He doesn't help you. Expects you to know it. Expects you to read a chapter in one night and know it all. DON't take this teacher if you want to get out of DeAnza!
DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER FOR MATH. He can't teach AT ALL, he expects us to know everything already. He writes the textbook which we use in class and that text book is a PIECE OF CRAP. I will not recommend this teacher AT ALL.
the differnce btwn test and quiz is huge. i got 10/10 on all pop quiz. Cs on all tests. funi dude. married. british. hecka smart. i hated the labs and that computer program. they were ++++ hard.
he is very helpful and knows what he is talking about. He wrote the book which is easy to fallow. His test are hard but they are open book and notes. you can attent any math lab you want to get extra help. huge opportunity for extra credit. great teac
The Worst Teacher I've Taken EVER!! .. not recommended
He is the most knoledgable in De Anza Math department. If you want an A, don't take him. If you want to learn what's Statistics and experience how a teacher can influence your whole life, DON'T MISS HIM!!!
I studied my ass off and got an 45 on one of his test. Worst teacher ever
He is pretty hard. better study!!!
He is funny, but that doesn't make up for his lack of explinations on STATS. He went WAY TOO FAST and if you asked a question he would put you on the spot. He expects you to be an expert in Stats. Don't take his class! Open note tests though..so good luck
Mr. Soler, once in class said, "You have to feel pain in your stomach, and you have to vomit, to learn how to think and do well in this class!" Mr. Soler is a good guy, but he has very POOR teaching skills. Do not take his class. He will not le
very very very fast. better than nijibam but still very fast. only recomeded if you know everything already. labs suck cause they are nothing like the classwork. final was amazingly hard.
great guy, fun in class, helpful. wrote the book and hw is everything in it but never checks hw or attendance. grade's based on tests alone, exchanges extra credit for lowest score. tests are very hard and based on lectures more than hw. but you do learn.
easy grader. show up every day, pay attention do ok work and youll pass with at least a C.
He refused to help me after class, he will put you down if you ask him something. He is a Cuban guy with a very low self steam, and he will get out on you. DO NOT take his class!
I am a straight A student and am failing this class. Impossible tests, unclear teaching and book that he wrote is hard. If you want to pass stats DO NOT TAKE HIM. He expects way too much! I study 3 hours a day for this class and still have a really hard time. Warning you while you can dont take him!
this is me: did no homework, got B on both midterms, didn't do the special extra credit homework, paid hella attention in class, Aced the final, aced the class. Yes, it is an easy boring class, his policy (summer 2002), no matter what your grade before final, if you get an A on final you get class A
Good luck getting an A on the final dude. Don't listen to this gibberish. Soler is a very nice guy but a horrible teacher. There were 2 A's in my class, 3 B's and the rest C's, D's, and F's. Avoid this professor.
He teaches very fast. If you show up everyday and act interested he will help you. Very nice man. Class is easy for math majors, but very difficult for everybody else
mr.soler is hella nice and helpful...i dunno what the rest of you guys are talking about..the class is freakin hard(dats so true) though...just do your work and show up in class everyday..ask questions!!!find some other resources that can help you in the class such as tutorial sessions...good luck!
Horrible teacher! Tests are nothing like he describes they would be. He makes some butt-ugly nerds grade his papers who barely speak english. Don't ever take his class! He will never give an A to anyone. Good luck reading the book that HE wrote.
good teacher
super hard class, boring, he is very unhelpful and not clear.
this guy is so difficult to understand
He's not a good teacher. He sucks when it comes to explaining. If you don't know the material he treats you like garbage. He'll embarrass you in class. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!

THE hardest teacher i've ever had. sure statistics is a hard subject by itself but this is how he explains questions... write down stuff so fast w/out much explanation n then goes, see this is easy right? no sh*t its easy for u. hard course but fairly nice guy. take it if u're a hard worker
Got an F for working my butt off.
worst teacher ever. dont ever take this guy. you will fail. take anyone but him or his friend lau
i cant believe you would put out such a bellow-average book. its a complete challenge to even understand your examples. i know for a fact i am not alone on this. change your book or change your profession, no offense or anything.
He is the worst
It was my FIRST class at DeAnza back in FALL 2001. The hardest teacher EVER!!!! 2/3 of class drop out by the middle of the quarter. The grading is: 0-0 : A's 0-1 : B's 1-3 : C's 3-5 : D's rest of the class - F's To compare: The next consecutive quarters I completed Calculus 1A, 1B, and 1C with ALL straight A's.. Soler gave me "D"
this was an extremely challenging class, but you have to admit the guy knows his stuff better than anyone else. read ahead and the lectures make much more sense. if you want an easy A look somewhere else, if you want to learn stats take it from this professor
He is a sketchy teacher. He makes nothing clear to you when you ask him to clarify it. He cannot explain anything without making you more confused. And he's not that nice of a guy, and he aint that funny neither.
Frank is a nice guy but unless your a stats major your in the for ride of your life. Even his "specially chosen T.A" is lost. Let alone lacking proper english skills.
Great teacher. Very friendly and helpful. Got an A in the class. Not exactly an easy A but it wasn't hard either.
Great guy. very friendly and funny. Tells a lot of jokes. He should be a comedian instead of a professor. He knows his stuff though.
This guy expects his students to read and learn the materiel, this is college after all. If you work hard, go to office hours and talk to him like a human being i guarantee you will like him.
textbook not user friendly

he is extremely nice. really does have some decent jokes. some will get you laughing for a while. he is extremely helpful. i mean really great. any question you have he can answer. virtually any. but be advised he dislikes slackers. like w/any college class,if you arent comitted then y go 2 college in the first place. no EZ A but surely can b done.
to tell you the truth... all his hard lectures will be come in handy when you take stats at uc... he matches the level of hardness from ucs so that you wont struggle hard when u transfer to UC. THX soler u helped me alot! and all u have taught me are being practiced here at UCSD. without i will fail my stats class!i got an A in my stats UC class
all the best. that's all i can say. he is funny and intelligent, but.. explanation? argh.. i always come out of class with more questions than feeling answered. but anws, he's nice (:
really hard and not very helpful
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS...Statistics is a easy subject, but he makes it wayyyy to complicated! he will just throw the stuff up on the board and except you to know the material right off the bat. Corny jokes...don't get me started...!#@$
ALthough math 10 is really hard subject, i got it because of his teaching. He helped me a lot. His class is trustworthy at De Anza college. If you get A in his class, almost all math teacher will trust your skill! People who don't study will dislike him because his class is really tough. If you wanna know what math 10 is, go take his class!
Great Math teacher. I can't wait to take him for calc. He really trys to prepare you. Nice guy, he cares about his students. He is difficult, but only because he excepts people to study and be prepared for class.
his book on stats is great! i dropped his stats class due to too much course load but i still have the book and plan to keep it because of how much i like it. his book is filled with real world examples, so that along with stats u increase your knowledge of what's going on in the world too. i think the book is fairly readable.
I have to say it's not the easiest class in DeAnza. I took him b/c I didnt get space in any other class. Nice guy and he does really prepare you for statistics. If you really want to learn stats learn it from him
His class isn't the easiest class. He expects you to study from books, and have unannounced quiz. His quizes and tests are all open book open notes and calculator allowed. His quizes aren't that hard either. If you are willing to learn, he helps you a lot. Just keep up with homework and you will do just fine. I got As in both classes. Wish h
He teaches a VERY difficult class. That being said, he does a good job of presenting the material in his lectures and will always work out problems with the students. Do not take him unless you are willing to study.
Mr. Soler is a nice professor. He presents lots of materials in the limited time. His explanation is clear, organized, and precise. Apparently, he knows the stuff very well. His book is certainly very interesting. He connects statistics with American culture. I feel very lucky that I took his class and enjoyed it a lot. I highly recommand him!
mr soler is kind of funny. all tests and quizzes are open book/notes but this doesn't help at all because the class is too damn hard :[ not reccommended for those who struggle wtih math
He is alright. If you are looking for a slacker class, this is not it. I missed a few days of class, but it was not difficult for me. Not exactly an easy A, but it was not difficult. I didn't really read his book and just did a few practice. Only around 20% get As. I got an A. You will too if you are not dumb or just study.
i admit, frank's class is not easy. but youll learn a lot if your really concentrate on the material. plus frank has really great personality. you might not like stats, but youll definitely like the person that he is.
He is a very nice guy but his class is very challenging you are forced to cram a lot of information in a short period of time. If you really concentrate and show him that you want to do well he will help you out. He is always happy to help if you visit his office hours too.
He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. I would never recommend taking his class. Not only is he not very helpful, he also doesn't fully explain anything. Also, if you are terrified of asking questions he is definitely not the teacher for you.
if you want an easy A, don't take this class. if you want to learn stats, take it from frank. he knows EVERYTHING about stats and is more than happy to explain/answer questions. his tests are challenging but fair. the key to succeeding in this class is doing practice problems. the tests are exactly the same, just with different numbers
i didn't like him at first because his teaching is way too fast and hard. the only way i overcame was reading the book ahead of class and work on the problems. if you read ahead of class his teaching is very clear. if you don't read, u'll get lost any second. he is a fast going teacher. not recommended for lazy students. muy smart, funny prof.
great guy. HARD class but once you get it, its interesting. HIS labs are pointless and they DONOT Help u on the test. MAKE SURE U DO THE PRATICE PROBLEMSSS!!!!!! also the book is really horrible at explaning things.
His class is made for people who are intuitive in maht and probability. If you just don't GET math very well, don't take his class. If you find math easy, you won't find a more relaxing class anywhere.
i got an A in precalc at sjsu by killing myself over the book. i tried to do the same here, but apparently, mr. soler's favorite thing to do is quiz us on stuff we've never seen before, and then laugh about how "easy it is to figure out". this is a class in mathematical talent and creativity, not calculus. watch out if you're not gifted. it hurts.
This class is NOT easy. The tests are open book and open notes. The tricky thing is that all of the tests are mainly conceptual. So just knowing the formulas isn't going to get you too far. Labs are pretty easy and what can save you in the class is doing the probs. Those are extra credit and if you do all of them, they will replace your lowest midt
Here is the distribution of final grades for the three sections of Math 10 I taught during Spring 2006. Enrollment after first two weeks: 74 students Students taking midterm 1: 72 students Students taking midterm 2: 65 students Students taking final exam: 57 students Final Grades: A = 5; B = 15; C = 18; D = 10; F = 20 (11 did not take final
waste time, waste money. The worst teacher I have ever seen in my life. Don't ever take his class. Trust me...
this class is not for slackers. some people show up in class unprepared and expect to do well, and WHEN they don't, blame it on the professor. If you read the book, and you do the problems on your own, you will not find this class hard. Mr. Soler is very helpful and he really wants his students to learn. Just do your part!
Math 23 with Prof. Soler is bad. Avoid it if you could. You won't learn anything really but worry for your GPA all the time. No exam, no quiz, just assignments and a final. Assignments are hard, long and take 4-6 hrs every week. Final exam is impossible. If you dont have to take it now, wait and take it in UC, you won't regret...
Best math teacher I have ever had. Approachable, animated, great sense of humor although many students did not get many of his jokes because one must pay attention in class. This is a tough course and you will work hard. If you can get through it you will be prepared.
I've always been good at stats, and I generally don't take De Anza classes too seriously because of how easy most of them have been for me. Frank is hard though. The average for the first midterm in our class was 61! Frank is funny and he likes sports, and he always asks me about the Giants. It's a bit weird how he always touches us, but not sexual
Prof Soler is the best statistic professor, math 23 is definitely the class you want to take in De Anza if you want to pursuit your career in finance, business and many other disciplines. Math 23 is the course that is exactly the same as courses in university level. Definitely take it, you will learn a lot and be prepared for upper division course
doesn't take attendence. no hw. 2 tests which are open notes and one final. however even with that, the class average for both tests were 50. no curve. he's not a bad teacher because he's really smart; he's just extremely hard. to do well, it takes A LOT more than just going to class.
Nice guy, funny. If you already are good at stats, this is a good class bc he doesn't take attendance/collect hw, only 2 midterms and a final, and labs every Friday. But if this is your first stats class, you might want to take someone else, unless math is easy for you and you learn quickly. I would say easy B if you put effort, achievable A.
He is a helpful person, but to get a good mark you need to work hard and attend all of his class.. if you want to take statistic take from him, because you will get a lot of achievement.
um. HARD. stay away.
This class will be hard if you're not naturally good at math, especially word problems. Soler lectures precisely by the book since he wrote it himself. Attendance not mandatory but it's crucial, missing one class will result in a lot of confusion. Go to the tutoring sessions, they help a lot. Easy B. Hard tests- average was in the 60s-70s.
Don't recommend him, he doesn't know how to teach maths, make easy stuff hard to understand.
He isn't a responsible guy, not willing to help student.
He is a funny teacher, and explains things well. I liked the guy even though he threw a marker at me for asking a silly question in class. I recommend taking this instructor for statistics.
Soler is an Okay teacher. I would only recommend taking him if you are pretty sharp in math, because he doesn't really have lectures, he just picks a couple problems to do in class and you're basically supposed to learn the rest on your own. He's not for everyone, if math isn't your strong point, I'd recommend a different teacher
He's book is the worst book I have ever seen. A lot of crap, expensive price for a cheap book, my essays are better than that book. Unclear, Difficult... Take Ky... but sadly Mr. Ky uses his book... Mr. Ky should write his own book...
Frank is a good teacher. Although his class is sometimes hard, if you really take time to study then it shouldn't be so bad. He's more than willing to help during his office hours. He's a very nice guy who cracks jokes occasionally. He's easier than Mosh, FOR SURE.
He explains the materials very well in general. It is not an easy class. But this is MATH! It is not suppose to be easy. Frank trys to teach student in a more interesting way. He grades student strictly. The highest grade he gave was B in my class.
Attendance is Mandatory!! You will be lost if you do not go to class every day. Trying to understand the book without his lectures is difficult. If you go to class, then Stats is EASY. Also, don't be fooled because first 5 wks were so easy I never opened the book, then came Central Limit Thm and my grade plummeted bc of it, so don't slack off!
He wrote the book, so that makes the class that much worse! I normally consider myself pretty intelligent, but NOT in this class. The material is clear as MUD!
The best professor ever! He's materials are hard, but is extremely helpful once you transfer. Upper div. Statistics is almost the similar level with his class. If you are wanting to know the material, then study, go to his office hour. He is there because he loves to teach. He just solely love students.
Frank is not an easy teacher. However, he's more willing to help during his office hour. And his like a grandfather-figure at times. But I don't think I will take another class with him again, final exam was SUPER DUPER difficult.
Frank is a really good teacher hands down. He's an overall nice dude and does a good job of explaining the concepts which really shows his passion for the field. Just show up to class EVERYDAY, and keep up with the reading, you should be fine. I suggest taking the 730 class for more hands on attention, and if you're a baseball fan, you'll love him.
I don't know who wrote the comment below me, but we are in the same class and I have to agree! Frank is a great teacher and he takes the time to explain the concepts. I would take his class all over if I had to. Also make sure to read the book and go to class or else you'll be lost.
I'm also in the 7:30 class and I really like Frank but I'm not gonna lie, the class is HARD. he speeds through material so keep up with studying but overall frank is a really nice guy
He is very demanding. If you fall behind he is not really willing to help you like other professors would, which is fine. but he is mean about it. He is always on track and he is not really clear what is going to be on the test. I give him an F since that is what he gave me If math is your thing and you can really basically learn on your own take i
One of the greates teachers in De Anza college. My grade is far lower than I thought, but I know it is my own problem. He gave us very clear explaination.Although I don't like math, I loved the Math10 after taking class with him. He did the surgery on Wed, but he still insisted to give us class on next Monday. You will feel guity if you don't study
Professor Soler teaches a college course in statistics. He is organized, prepared, knowledgeable, and fair. Quizzes are unannounced. Also, computer lab projects, 2 midterms, and final. He returns graded papers on the next day. Everything is open book/notes. Questions are not easy and require deep understanding. The course prepares students well.
Frank is hard, bottom line. He goes through sections VERY fast and makes you study hard. Tests are challenging as well. But he is absolutely HILARIOUS. He makes Stats a fun class since he's always joking. He's very organized and as long as you keep up with the work, you should be fine. Just remember, STUDY. His tests require thinking.
Frank is actually a very nice guy. He goes through the material pretty fast but willing to help you with any question. His test is not easy and you definitely need to read books. He never takes roll and doesn't drop people for not showing to class.
never take math 10 with this teacher, he wrote the book by himself, and he also tried to make examples to explain it. While most of the students got confused. Anyway, i don't recommend him~trust me
Well, I think I personally do understand the people under thought, but the thing is that college maths is hard, you can't look forward to pass the class easy if you are not concentrate, either you are not in a math related major which I would like to suggest stay away from him, otherwise, he is a really nice guy and would like to help if you ask.
He is a very nice and kind professor. I often laugh in his class.
Frank is definitely a great professor that I'll recommend. He is charming ,humorous and he explain all the concept well. However, it's in a fast pace so read the textbook prior to or post class is mandatory. He is also thoughtful as he will give reminder for important events.I think I'll probably take his class again if the grade is not satisfy:)
First and foremost, he is a very nice professor. His humor is a bit dry so be prepared for that. He is HARD. Be sure to read "his" textbook prior coming to class. Do NOT miss any of his classes or you can fall behind quick. His textbook is just a supplement to what he teaches. Only good thing is his exams are open notes.
I have to drop his class after 4 weeks. Difficult lectures and quizzes are way diferent from what he teaches. Long lab assigments that nobody is able to complete on time because the computers don't have the program he needs. On top of that he wrote the textbook, which make things more unclear. I don't recommed his class.
Tough class and grader. Useful material. Best to read material ahead of time. Bad news to fall behind. Frank sticks to daily schedule. Interesting examples and connections to the real world.
Tough grader, most of the things he mentioned on the final review were not covered on the final. Most of my friends felt betrayed on this. He intentionally made student to study and give a tough grade; Unannounced quizzes will make you to come to the class everyday---- 7:30 am morning class ! His Spanish accent and bad hand writing will also effet
