Good teacher! His teaching is pretty straight forward most of the time. If you get lost he will take the time to help you out and he offers extra credit. But he often talks and writes on the board at a very fast pace, so you better make sure you can keep up

Tran is a great professor who is always available before/after class. Though, he makes lots of his own mistakes. He lets you correct your exams in order to improve your grades. Basically, he's an easy going professor.

well!u'll get at 10 points before tests by doin the easy worksheets he gives u like 2 weeks before the test, he gives 5 points extra credit on the test(which is one from the worksheet),he lets u re-do the questions u have wrong on the test,so there goes at least 20 extra points. strongly recomended.

This teacher is ok - for a math teacher. You can persuade him to give group quizzes if the whole class looks clueless. for the projects, if you ask him how to do something, he would directly tell you what to do. He does talk fast, but he wants to make himself clear - so tell him to repeat, he don't mind.

He may be a nice guy and let you take group quizzes and all, but his tests are HARD !! Some things just pop up on his tests out of nowhere. There's no point of doing hw... the tests are nothing like it!! He ADMITS he's a tough teacher! But it's bc he wants you to learn... so use his office hours as much as possible!!

Dull dude. "This is how we do" is comical, though. Miss quite a few classes in a row, but managed to ace the first couple of tests. Let's you earn half the points on your tests for incorrect answers. And he's very lenient as far as homework goes. Good guy. Boring dude.

I honestly hate math but he made it tolerable. People say he's boring but it's math, what did they expect? He gives tons of extra credit, does group quizes, and is very willing to take time to answer questions without being condescending.

Tran is not an easy prof. yet he compensates by offering e.c. Pop quizzes are group quizzes and scheduled ones are individual. Tests come straight out of his practice sheets and lecture NOT the book! If you struggle with Math don't take him, as he goes very fast, and if you are good I HIGHLY recommend him for an easy A. Makes good use of time too!

Tran is hard becaue 181 is a hard, but he teaches good. He grades the work easily, on the exam you have to show him that you know the concept. I freak out on every lecture because i didn't understand what is he talking about. I studied at home and know how to identify problems then ask him in his office hours. He gives Group quizzes.

Great 181 teacher. Definately one of the harder teachers but you will learn it well. Don't be afraid to go to his office hours, my friends and I spent about 3 hours everyday in his office bugging him about stuff and he's really nice about it. Try to persuade him to give group quizzes as well, he will most likely oblige.

Oh, man, I just bombed Tran's final. He's a good professor though. Just do all of the assigned worksheets and you'll do fine. The worksheets and quizez are very similar to his tests, so don't disregard them.

Professor Tran is extremely smart. His accent can be tough to understand at times, but it doesn't really affect his lecture. Calc 2 wasn't easy, especially the exams, but I know that I didn't study as much as I should have. However, I passed the class. Put the time and effort and you'll be fine.

Frank is a great teacher. He gives his students lots of review before quizzes and tests and chances to ask questions. Sometimes he does move quickly though. As long as you pay attention and do your work an A is easy.

I took him for Math 180 and 185. If he teaches Math 280 next semester, I'll definitely take his class again. Extremely helpful, very nice guy as a person. His handouts and quizes are sometimes hard, but it's totally for your benefit. Very patient with students too. Take him!!!!!!!!

Excellent teacher!! He makes sure you know the material before moving on. Teaches some great shortcuts. His exams are exactly like the h.w. handouts and easier. Gives all kinds of extra credit an ways to improve your grade. My first math teacher (homeschooled before) and I DEFINITELY recommend taking him. Just be sure to do the hw and not be absent

SUCH a good prof! Gives study guides before each test which can add up to an extra 10% on your test grade! Always willing to help his students in anyway he can, takes any questions. An A is completely possible, just do the homework and study for the tests and quizzes. But he tells you EXACTLY what you need to know before them. Take him if you can!!

The material is difficult, but not impossible for a 6 weeks course. Tran is great, but don't expect an easy A. At this level you have to expect to put some work i. I would deff take him again. He reviews before every test and quiz and on occasion gives out extra cr. His final was really hard though so study!!!!

This professor is very tough, but taking his class will prepare u for the higher level classes. he will clarify if you have trouble understanding a concept. Took him last spring. This guy's a beast! He was teaching too many classes and it was a night class so he was so tired; his lectures were decent but not good enough for his questions on exams. I ended up studying tough concepts (esp. in linear algebra) by myself using outside material. However, he's arguably the best prof for this class. Got an A

He was a mind-blowing teacher. He inspired math and made me love math even more. He was a hard teacher though. There were times of struggles during his tests and quizzes (especially his group quiz). Nonetheless, he was very good and smart. I recommend to take his class if you can.

I was hesitant to take this teacher because of reviews I read ... but he was actually pretty good. WRites neatly and explains step by step. I did end up dropping the class cuz it was a LOT of material to cover in a short 6 wk session. I wouldn't hesitate to take him in the future during a normal 16 week semester.

He was a pretty tough professor. Luckily, I wasn't taking that many hard classes this semester. His class requires a lot of time. He literally puts everything from his notes on the exams. Exams are only based on his notes. I tried really hard so I got an A, do not recommend him if you are unable to give all attention to math.

Im currently taking Proffesor Tran and I LOVE his class. Summer is 6 weeks rather than 18 so it is definately ALOT to cover, but he is MORE than happy to give one on one time. Goes just a bit fast but WILL slow down. Has a sense of humor. 6 quizes(3 of which are group), 3 tests & FINAL. Not as bas as it seems. I have a B :)

He has the reputation as one of the best math professors on campus. Best meaning he is challenging (but reasonable) and will drive you to become better at math. You will learn interesting shortcuts and he makes math interesting. His extra credit helps you get even better at math. If you want to improve your math, he is the one! Study hard for an A.

Tran is a very understanding professor. He does whatever he can to try and give you as much points possible. His tests are pretty much based on his examples from lecture. Make sure to do all the h.w and tutor lab hours and you will be fine. It can be challenging but show effort and he will grade you accordingly!

Though he is the hardest math professor I've had, I will say his lectures are great. Homework is not always from book, which makes it difficult to check for correctness, but he will help in class and during office hours. I struggled with this class because I had work and other classes. I recommend him only if you can commit many hours to the class.

He actually explained the concepts to help us understand what we were learning. He wrote very organized notes on the board that were easy to study and made it very clear what would be on the test. His tests were challenging, but fair. Homework was actually useful because he gave us less, but more difficult problems, similar to the test.

If you do your homework, ask questions, and pay attention to the lectures, you can definately get A's on your tests. He does use a lot of shortcuts, so it is hard to follow. Professor Tran is a BEAST at calculus and just math in general. If you actually wanna learn calculus take him and he will make you a master at it. He has some amazing shortcuts that I have never seen and they work. He gives extra credit for each test. Although would not recommend him in the summer. Its too fast paced for a difficult class like his.

He is one of the best math professors at MTSAC, he is very clear and his notes make the most sense out of any math professor I've taken. He doesn't rush the material and will help you if you don't understand something. His grading is extremely fair and his tests can be somewhat difficult. He is a great guy! He is very passionate about the subject!

Although Tran tends to assign harder problems on the test than other professors, but he prepares you well for Math 181. Almost half of the class dropped out after the second exam, our average was around 60. But he gives worksheet 2 weeks before the exam which worth 10 points extra credit. If you make good use of this opportunity you should do fine.

He's a nice kind person, and good at teaching and very clear. Once you r not understand, ask him for help. He's very helpful. All his quiz & tests are from his notes. Book is useless, just take notes during class and focus on your notes after class. NO HW! Do extra credit questions to cover losing pts from final cuz his final is very hard!

Math 181 is a hard class since there is just so much material to cover. Professor Tran does a great job on explaining the concepts, though! Tests are tough but there are no surprises. He spends time to do in-depth reviews with us before every test, and offers extra credit with worksheets. One of the hardest classes I have taken so far.

He is hands down the best math professor I've taken at my time at MtSAC. He literally tells you what will be on the test. The Saturday before the final, he went through EVERYTHING that would be on the test and final day came and it was exactly as he said. His extra credit adds 10 percent to your tests! Take him if you actually want to learn Math.

I loved taking this class with Prof. Tran! He goes through the examples step by step (skips steps once in a while) and is willing to explain everything! His tests are long, but they're literally the same problems as in the notes!

College student study hard. That's all you need. His tests are like for kindergartens compare to Phebe's. I passed Phebe's 180 and Tran's 181 with As. I was not smart, I was making efforts.

Professor Tran is great, really helpful too. Take notes because his lectures are similar to the exams and he also lets the class know what will be on the exam. I was intimidated at first because I had heard that Prof. Tran was really hard but in the end I'm glad I took Prof. Tran. 9/10

He is amazing professors. Took him for 181 and he is super helpful, will stay with you 2 hours if it's necessary. Very clear unless you are stupid and are taking 181 for no reason. Tests are completely from notes and quizes. People it's 181 you should study!!! Professor Tran makes a lot of effort for you to understand everything. Don't fall behind!

Genius, and happy to explain things. Take him if you want to truly understand diff calculus. Avoid if you're just trying to get your math class ticked off. Gives hard work, but gives you the tools to handle it. Do the difficult pre-exam sheets for extra credit (train hard, fight easy). Great on partial credit. I wish I'd taken him for 181.

Tran is amazing. Yes his tests & EC may be hard & long, but if you put in the time & work, you'll get the result you deserve. His exams are literally another version of his notes so take good notes! He's willing to give up his own time to help those who take the class seriously. Hard class+amazing prof+hard work knowledge & the grade you deserve

Great prof. Does make you work for the grade but it is worth it in the end. If you are ok with math be prepared to put atleast three hours of studing every day. Do the homework, not just for the credit but because it really does help pass the class.

Tran is amazing & genius! I had taken him for 181, took him now for 285. I don't know why student complain about him for being hard, when he asks you the normal amount of work. 3 exams, 6 quizes,3 of them group quizzes. He asks what he says in the lecture, nothing extra. Review always for the exam&10 points extra credit. Available and very helpful!

Awesome professor!! I took him for 181 and he is amazing! He has clear and concise lectures, and tries to add as many people as possible. He also offers extra credit, and his exams are exactly like his lectures in class. HE doesn't grade too harsh, so if you make a couple mistakes don't worry. He's amazing take him!!

Took the class in winter sem and came into the class feeling scared cus havent touched math in a long time and had a C in Precal. Professor is great at lecturing and makes everything easy to understand if u pay attention and apply yourself. Lots of studying if taken in winter semester (4hrs/day in tmarc) definitely not a class for slackers.

Prf Frank and Prf Phebe are famous for their freaking hard long exams, and an hour and a half quizzes. Yes, you didnt misread it. However, i enjoyed their classes because i was so prepared for the test. If you are a serious student, or if you are into math, dont be afraid of his tests.

FYI math 181 is the hardest math class ever, it isnt easy, so you must study. Tran is a REALLY good teacher. TIPS: dont do the homework to study, just study your notes and example questions that he emphasizes. To study for tests, go over notes and quizzes and do extra credit if you can. He is a really good and nice teacher, but class is hard, GL

You have to show up to class in order to pass. He gives out extra credit (that goes to your exam score.) It really helps your grade. His lectures go really fast (but you can always tell him to slow down and he'll explain it to you and ask if you understand it). His quizzes and exams have the material that he wants you study.

Tran is the best there is. His level of difficulty may be high up, but he prepares you for the exam. Take good notes, because his exams are similar to the notes. Study the notes and the quizzes to prepare for the exam. Do the worksheets, not the HW. Tran cares, the help is there, just gotta ask. If I could take Tran again, I would in a heartbeat.

This is the honor class for 181. You have to study outside of the class, there is not enough time to understand all the lecture in the class. Lecture heavy, around 2-3 chapter a day. Exam take higest % of the grade, make sure to do the worksheet (extra credit, and you can get max 10 point add on to the exam). If you passionate in math, you are ok.

His class destroyed me, but I learned a lot. If I didn't have to worry about my GPA, I would take him again in a heartbeat, because you'll really learn a lot. Beware of group quizzes, make sure you have a good group. I averaged B's on the exams but my quiz grade killed me. Overall, take him if you're willing to put the work in.

Taken during Summer intersession. Very clear and concise notes/lecture. 3 exams, 4 quizzes (lowest dropped, 1 group qz), 3 extra credit worksheets worth 10pts ea. added to the correlating exam. His exams are literally another version of his notes. He literally TELLS YOU what will be on the quiz/test a day prior. One of the best math prof. I've had.

Fast teaching style - uses math shortcuts a lot. You won't need the textbook except to do assigned HW - his lectures explain enough. Uploads lecture notes to his site - easier to focus on listening instead of trying to keep up copying down notes. Always reviews quiz/exam content right before taking, including the final! MEMORIZE THE UNIT CIRCLE!!!

He is amazing professors. Took him for 180 during the summer. He explained everything very clear and well-organized. Tests and quizzes are completely similar to notes. Before the exam, finished extra worksheet, u will get 10 extra credit add to ur exam grades. His class is very fast during summer, and he didn't collect HW in short semester.

This class is honors class. Professor Tran makes you work for your grade. his test is super hard and he goes super fast in class. it is better to study before the class because you will lose yourself during his lectures. study hard, his 180 class prepares you well for 181. I choose to take his class because I want to work hard and learn well.

He is a easy professor, easy A. Take his you wont be regret if you just pay slightly effort onto it. It is tbh really easy.

DO THE WORKSHEETS that arent worth points! I wouldve gotten a B if I just did those worksheets. Took him during the Fall and he was really good, kind of fast paced but clearly lines up the stuff thats gonna be on the quizzes and exams. Study ALL the questions he assigns for the final, it will make or break your grade !!!!

He is a wonderful professor. I was super afraid of 181 the first week because of how much is thrown at you everyday. I will admit this course is definitely far from easy, but Tran does his best to help students pass. He clearly tells you what to study for every quiz and exam. If youre taking any math course, I highly recommend Professor Tran. The 181 course is tough, as are almost all higher end mathematics classes. He does group quizzes followed by individual quizzes, so make sure you rewrite notes after lectures and do homework daily! If you slack off you wont pass. Dont skip lectures or youll miss tips for exams.

His lecture is so clear and his grading system is so mature. The quizzes worth very little and serve as a heads up for the exams. There is also extra credits which are exam review worksheets. Review your notes and finish your extra credits then you are almost A guaranteed. Very heavy work because it is a hard class.

One of the excellent professors I've had. Clear lectures, although very fast paced. No surprises on exams. If you understand the lecture and practice it, you'll pass the class.

You'll hear these quotes quite a bit in Math 290, where you need to remember important algebra techniques involving factoring and manipulating the problem to integrate, solve a DE, applying the Laplace Transformation, etc. Practice your methods of factoring before taking this class! You won't regret it!

sounds cliche but he definitely cares about his students and is more than willing to work outside of class. Office hours are very helpful. Overall he explains things pretty clearly, my one and only criticism is sometimes he will answer a different question than what is asked. Seriously, other than this he is fantastic.

Professor Tran has been one of the best professors I have gotten for math at Mt. SAC. Even with everything going online, he managed to make lectures engaging with the fill in online notes. As long as you follow his lectures, ask questions when you need help, and take good notes you will do great.

I did not do well in this class. That is not Frank Tran's fault. He is a very capable professor IF math is your thing. If you struggle, like me, maybe don't take his class. Frank Tran is still the man. He's fast but he's concise. Homework was optional, test prep is extra credit. "Baby problem, just algebra." "I just make a little spicy."

Professor Tran is the best Math professor in MtSac. To be honest, Hes just amazing! I took his Math 180 in Fall 2020 online class. It went smoothly! He has such patience that he would do that problem again and again to help you if you dont understand! Hes lecture is fast but very clear and step by step approach!

Don't understand all the negative ratings. I'm poor at math, but Professor Tran helped me all the way. You need to study and attend class, but that should be expected from college calc. He's amazing at lectures and if you don't understand, he's always helpful during office hours. My favorite math professor to date. Exams reflective of class.

Professor Tran is a very caring person. He always cares about how students do on the hw & his lectures. He is very patient with all the questions asked. His lecture is easy to understand. There are 3 Exams, 8 quizzies(# of quizzies depend on his teaching process - half individuals, half groups), and one Final exam. Easy A class :)

I took professor Tran's 160, 180, and also 181. He's lectures are amazing! He explained concepts extremely well! The most important thing is he is extremely patient with students. He would explain the same problem over and over again if you do not understand. I wished he teach 280 but sadly not.. Overall, he is my favorite math professor in Mt Sac!

Gives homework extensions when asked, tells you exactly what's on the tests, group quizzes, thorough lectures notes, uploads lecture notes and videos, answers all questions thoroughly... He moves fast but slows down if you ask. Always asks "Did I go to fast?" and makes sure the class stays with him but this might be a tough class for a slow learner

Prof Tran is a good teacher but goes really fast during lectures and assumes you remember material from prior math classes. He is understanding when life happens and you need an extension. Go to office hours and ask for help on the homework! Also, review basic 180 concepts before you take his class. To get a good grade you actually need to try.

Teaches like he is trying to win a race in first place. If you blink youll probably miss a couple steps. Caring and soft guy who can be very lenient on due dates. His tests and quizzes are exactly what was taught in lecture and what shows up on the hw.

Super nice and really understanding however he teaches so so fast it can be hard to keep up. Exams are hard primarily because they cover so much information since we go through quite a few notes per lecture. Overall, its a very difficult class if math isnt for you but hes a great professor.

Took him over the summer for Differential Equations. The class was very fast paced and he lectures very fast in order to cover the material. He is very nice though and is clear what will be on the exam. Be sure to know how to do the problems, exams and quizzes are very long Fair grader and great professor. To be honest, he is a good professor. He will teach you shortcut and cover all the materials that will be on the exams. However, he teaches very fast. You HAVE TO be focused on all the lecture. Watch recordings if you missed a class.(He wont respond to email) It's a hard course but if you really want to learn better. Take him.

Professor Tran made calculus super easy to understand. Really love his straight-forward teaching. His explanation for every problems are practical and superb. Above all that, he's a very caring person. Don't be afraid to ask him questions and he'll ensure that you understand a topic. If you struggle a lot in math, Frank is the move!

Mr. Tran was an excellent teacher, his work/lecture is very easy to understand. He tries his best to make sure the class understands the steps, don't be afraid to ask questions. His exams are based on all the notes/class examples/ homework, so exams were not that tough. He offers great extra credit which are a huge help.

He was a really great teacher, genuinely loved teaching math and taught it great too. However, he did make many minors mistakes and never caught them unless another student corrected him. Don't be afraid to ask questions, bc he'll always answer them to the best of his ability.

Lectures are crazy fast and he explain things that make it complicated so I had to learn a lot by myself. He does explain things better in his office hours. Tests were hard. I was averaging around 10-15 hours a week studying for his class. When you do homework you have no clue whether or not if you are doing it correct as he doesn't post answers.

Very good math professor despite short six weeks online course in Mt Sac. He offer clear explanation on our lectures despite sometimes messy lecture, he will offer you extra support you need to ace the exams and the final as well. He does care about your success as a student especially in an advanced math class.

Great professor. He's surprisingly lenient when it comes to grading on tests and quizzes. Just make sure you have solid algebra and trig foundations, or else you'll get lost pretty easily. Also, don't skip class too much or you'll end up falling behind pretty fast.

Professor Tran moves fast in lectures, so be ready to put in extra work outside of class. However, he's helpful if you attend office hours. Use unstuckstudy ai and the free textbook to supplement - they really helped me stay on track in this challenging but manageable course.

Professor Tran is one of the best math instructors I've ever had! He is incredibly knowledgeable. He reviews key concepts at least twice, outlines exam material clearly, and answers questions despite the fast-paced lectures required by the amount of content in Math 285. He also holds daily office hours to provide additional support.

Prof Tran is an amazing and caring professor, he explains things really well. But I do have to say his quizzes & exams are not easy, but it's possible to get an A if you put in your time and effort from the first day of school till the end, and i would 100% recommend utilize his office hours if you have any questions!

Great Professor if you are willing to take notes. Homework is optional, but most questions on the tests and quizzes are based off homework and extra credit worksheets. Success is high if you copy the problems he does on the board, and re-do them on your own time. 90% of the time they are the same problems on tests/quizzes which are the only grades

Tran is great at helping students understand the core material. He goes really fast in lecture, but the shortcuts and tips he shares are really helpful. He doesn't grade HW for 260. I highly recommend going to his office hours—if you explain your thought process, he's often willing to give points back or clarify any confusion.

Tran was a good professor overall. Practice exams are very similar to actual exams, easy to talk to outside of class. Content is hard, but if you put in a few hours every week studying, the class is very simple.

Very easy, will drop the lowest exam score, and the lowest quiz score, and lectures are very important, you do NOT want to miss a single day. Study guides are given 1 week before the exam and are very similar.

The best thing is how his tests match a lot of his notes. He gives a lot of cool shortcuts on how to solve difficult differentials/integrals. He demonstrably cares about his students and is willing to show grace when other teachers won't. Do the work and attend the lectures, and you will do well in the class. Best profs I've had at this college! :D

Prof. Tran's class is not easy, but math itself it not an easy subject anyway. His exams are similar to homework problems and sometimes provides worksheets for extra credit. Not a harsh grader. I went to his office when it was not his OH but he was always welcoming.. nice professor. He makes his own problems so not easy but doable!
