This professor is really nice. Took his ethics class over the summer. It was a lot of work but learned a lot of interesting stuff. The class consisted of 4 papers and discussions each week. Recommend him!
Excellent teacher! You will learn so much. Class is fast paced but doable. He is fair. Assignments are not super hard but you will have to think about it;no easy A's. I reccomend him for marketing.
This was a good class. He has a lot of background information to provide and good stories. There was a group marketing analysis project & presentation this semester that was a pain, but you have the entire semester to work on it (depending on your chosen project presentation date) and you get class time to work on it. Learned a lot from the project
Took the class online.Very interesting topics discussed. No textbook, but you have to read many articles and stories. Stories may be long but usually very interesting and you actually want to read them! Doesn't overload you with work, but there are four 2-3 pg papers throughout semester. Weekly discussions & bi-weekly quizzes. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND.
Really awesome professor. Always gives feedback right away and extremely helpful in understand material and actually learning.
Professor v was helpful and always returned emails with lightning speed. He's a good pick!
He was the most helpful professor I've had this semester. This class was a lot of fun.
Great professor, really funny, really helpful, and very reasonable when you have a problem.
GREAT professor. It was hard for me to focus in class because he talks pretty fast. Except, he is always there for you if you have any question, about the class or about anything else. If you approach him after class with a question, he will give you a lot of time and the MOST DETAILED answer he can possibly give. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Professor V. is easily one of the top 3 I've ever had. His class is very engaging and gives you the opportunity to work with real world companies. He's always willing to listen/help if you have issues with anything. The classes are interesting and you'll want to attend. Must take!!
This was may second class with Prof van Vliet I enjoyed both of them. He was very understanding and interesting. I learned a lot from him.
Prof van Vliet is a great instructor and his class is worth taking. He is clear on his expectations and his requirements and fair.
Prof. V is friendly, helpful, and by far a great teacher. He holds your attention and makes sure you understand the content without rushing through.
Class was easy. If you attended class on a regular basis, and turned in assignments on time, you couldn't fail.
Professor was very clear with directions. I enjoyed the class as a future business major. Professor was very nice. Information was straight forward. I enjoyed this class very much.
Professor was awesome. There were 5 quizzes which came right from the textbook, 1 page case summaries due weekly, and two group projects. NO MID TERM OR FINAL. Teacher was very helpful in every aspect. I would recommend him to anyone; he know's his stuff!
Very fair grader and considers reasonable requests.
Nice teacher. Always around to help and give advice, and very clear. Gives good constructive criticism.
Professor Vliet was very fair in his grading. Be sure to participate on the discussion boards daily to ensure an easy A. The test were not complicated with questions taken from the assigned readings. I had to retake the course and he is feedback on my papers was positive and helpful.
Professor Van Vliet made this subject very interesting and was very helpful throughout the semester. Very easy grader as well!
I like the class mainly because I am interested in business. It was extremely knowledgable. Showing each step of starting a business and pitching your business to others. If you are not interested in business i suggest not to take it.
I enjoyed the class because I am interested in business. Showed the full process in detail on starting a business and pitching your ideas. I do not suggest people who are not interested at all in business to take this class.
He is one of the best professors at UB. His dedication+willingness to provide the greatest experience are apparent during the entire semester. The course expectations was well explained. I also had the opportunity to have him as a sub for an in-class Mktg course. He was GREAT! Explains everyth well+gves great examples.
Prof V. is a fair and very understanding professor. I have taken two classes of his. I enjoyed both of them.
Prof. V is AMAZING! His marketing 460 was such a treasure. As a marketing major I am extremely bias, but his class is interesting, not complicated, our quizzes were online, come to class, participate in class discussions, work with your group & youll do fine! He's such an asset to UB! Every MKTG major should take him for 460! you wont be sorry!
The organization of the course was great with a nice balance between theory, current applications and projects. Prof Van Vilet was very enthusiastic about the topic and made the class interesting. He's very helpful, super responsive by email and very approachable. One of my best lecturers and and this was certainly on of my most memorable classes.
Professor van Vliet has a great knowledge and experience of the content. He also encourages his students to challenge themselves and think outside of the "normal" thinking patterns.
Wow he is the best professor ever, but you have to bring your "A" game. overall I will recommend everyone who has to take this class with him.
Not only is Professor V extremely knowledgable in his field, he genuinely cares about his students and their sucess. Some students might categorize his class as "easy" ..but that's not the case--> Prof V is an advocate for class discussion, which in my opinion, is the best way to learn. I recommend his classes for students who are eager to learn.
AWESOME!
Professor V is pretty awesome. He makes the class very fun. I took IDIS during the winter time and I almost dropped it when he posted the amount of work we had to do. But he made the class very easy and organized way of learning. It is a lot of reading but that is easy to deal with. The quizzes were in class very easy and papers were not hard at al
Accelerated 3.5 week course, met twice a week. Alot of writing. Thought provoking discussions
Prof. V is great. As long as you try and show interest you'll have no problem. You won't regret taking him. You'll learn a lot of real world knowledge!
Professor Van vliet is a great professor. He is extremely helpful and if you do as you are supposed to, I guarantee that you will learn a lot! You will also have the opportunity to receive a great grade as long as you participate and follow instructions
He is a great professor! do not let the high level course scare you. Best teacher by far.
Prof. V is fantastic! Very knowledgeable. Relates the info to real life and makes it very understandable. The class isn't difficult, but you have to put the time and effort into the readings and assignments. Lots of class discussion that challenges you to think outside the box. Highly recommend!
AWESOME professor! Prof. van Vliet is organized, caring and knows his subject matter extremely well. Not an easy A, but if you follow the syllabus and turn your work in on time you will learn a lot and receive a fair grade. He makes the class fun and interesting. Hands down the best instructor I have ever taken!
This was the best class I have taken during my time at UB. It was very demanding and really pushed be to be organized and consistent. The content of the course was informative, interesting and engaging. This was an online class but I felt a true connection with Professor V and my classmates. I would definitely take another class with Professor V!
This was one of the most interactive online classes I have taken. The information that was pesented was very organized and clear. Each student must commit to studying and submitting on time. Professor van Vilet knows his stuff, and you will have to know yours!Do the work and you will pass. All in all, a great class.
Awesome!! I really enjoyed this class! Prof. van Vliet did a fantastic job of encouraging everyone to do their best. This class has a lot of work, but as long as you do it, you will pass and learn a lot. I can't wait to take another one of his classes.
I really enjoyed this course! The professor provided great, relevant articles to read and yes it was a fair amount of work (posting 3-4 thorough comments a day plus readings) but it was enjoyable.
Very engaging class. Discussion posts kept my interests.
This was by far one of most challenging and amazing classes I have ever taken. This was my 3rd time taking this class with Prof V and it has always been an experience worth while. I highly recommend his classes.
He's very straight forward. He's helpful if you need help. As long as you stay on top of the discussion forums and the 3 case studies, you should get an A.
This Class was great. It seemed as if we were in class discussing topics. Prof. Frank Van Vliet makes sure the students stay engaged. If you complete your discussions and the case studies you are pretty much guaranteed to pass. This was my first class with him I will defiantly take more classes that he teaches. Great Teacher!
This was a great course. It was the most interactive online course I have every had. Professor really wanted to act as though we were in a actual classroom discussion. I will definitely take any other class he teaches
When people say Prof. V is knowledgeable and easy they were not kidding. Excellent, excellent, excellent professor. If you want to "just pass" don't take him. If you want to learn business/societal ethics and maintain that knowledge throughout life, take Prof. V. Amazing professor. SUPER EASY assignments. 15-20 discussion post a week to ace class
This class was amazing ! If you an an inspiring entrepreneur or even want to learn the ins and outs of having your own business, this class is amazing,Professor Frank is no doubt the definition of an true caring professor about wanting his students to succeed! I would take this class again in the 300 level course
The professor was a working professional, in the field he was teaching, which made the material believable and applicable. I was attending as a government employee, he gave concrete examples on how the material applied to what I was doing.
Very fair guy.
Best professor ever. Read the content and complete all the DQ's on time and you will breeze through this class. Interesting topics, engaging discussions, and written assignments were also very interesting to complete. Take this course.
Professor V. is one of the most helpful professors. His class in very interesting and he has a laid back teaching style. Do your work and you'll do well.
No point in buying the text book. This class was long and boring, but he is a very good teacher. The assignments where simple and easy. If you pay attention you can learn a lot in the class. You can tell the professor really cares about what he is teaching, so if you are a business major then this is a very useful class for you.
I enjoyed the class however I did not enjoy the final group project only because of the amount of time given to us, I felt as though it was not enough time.
such an AMAZING professor. He make sure the students understand the material really well and takes his time to reply students email. I would definitely take his other class again. AWESOME professor in UB.
Best Professor at UB for sure! This class is a huge experiental learning class. You do real life Marketing Plans for companies in need. The experience you get is great. it can be a lot of work as long as you keep up with it, you should easily get an A.
Great experience creating marketing plan for actual organizations.
Professor V is a wonderful professor who encourages his students to give their very best through his weekly expectations of 15-20 posts per week for the Discussion Forums. Other assignments for the semester included 3 case studies, 7 quizzes, and 1 final paper. An A is obtainable if you do your work and turn assignments in on time.Take him!!!!!!
Took Prof v's 5 week ethics class this summer. Please be advised, IT IS A LOT OF WORK. That being said, YOU CAN GET AN A. Professor v is one of the most helpful and knowledgeable professors ive had. He will help you get through this class but you MUST do the work.
Great class, great teacher! I took the 5-wk class. The info and classwork keep you busy but was very interesting! Also, good conversation throughout the class. I would definitely recommend Prof. V!
He is vey precise and understandable. Real life experiences are shared in class
This was an excellent course. Professor V is incredibly enthusiastic about the topic making it easy to get involved. I would strongly recommend taking this course with this professor.
Great professor!
Overall, the class was great. It will keep you thinking, but at the same time it'll be fun. I took the 8 week summer course and the pace was fast. I believe everyone will learn something from this class. My suggestion is to make time to do the work; once you get involved you'll actually enjoy it. The material is relevant to everyday life.
This professor has strong teaching skills and goes straight to the subject. He is extremely efficient and know how to pull the best of a student. Hard work and consistency led me to a good deserved grade. Discussions are the best and most challenging part. Are rewarded only those who really participate.
Great Professor. He really knows his craft! His topics are dynamic and relatable.
Best professor.
Very well organized, great interaction, proficient, responds to every concern expeditiously and with detail. It is a considerable amount of reading. The readings are interesting and the teacher is very involved in the discussions questions. You can get a good grade as long as you follow the syllabus. He is a very through instructor. Enjoyed!
Best Professor ever. This professor made the class fun. Study and keep up with the discussions and you will do fine. It was a great class.
Thank you for opening my eyes.
I enjoyed the class
He is a good instructor he expect the best from his student. He requires sophisticating writing and he is very strict on plagiarism.
This class was fairly easy if you paid attention and came to class. All of the assignments are out of the books and the quizzes are easy if you read the material. He answers your questions in-depth so that everyone understands. Also, he keeps everyone engaged in the class with his jokes. Highly recommended professor.
While Prof V is super nice and very helpful, the work required for his class is too much. There are 4 papers, 7 quizzes, and multiple (read: many) discussion posts throughout the course. To me, the discussion posts (15-20 weekly) seemed like busy work. Many major assignments were due on holidays.
Wonderful teacher! Helps whenever you need it, gives clear directions, understands student's everyday dilemmas and real life problems. One of the best teachers I've ever had. I'll miss his course!
This class was a really well-rounded history and discussion of ethics. The only thing I would have like was to have more interaction with the professor and to hear his opinions. I assume he didn't do that so that the students could be heard.
I've learned so much since I enrolled this class. The ethical theories that I learned are egoism, virtue, utilitarianism, Kant's duty ethics, and relativism. Ethics help me justify people's actions and behaviors on the news.
He is a great professor.
Professor Frank van Vliet is a great professor to take for IDIS 302. I have also taken him for another subject that and he was great in that class also. Would highly recommend this professor.
Really great class. Do not take it if you want an easy A. Prof. Frank makes you work for you grade, but as long as you participate in the weekly discussions you should be fine. I would take a class with him again if I had the chance.
not very interesting subject matter but Van Vleit made it not so bad
Professor. Van Vliet is a great professor. He teaches us the skills in marketing we need in order to understand marketing. We had several great projects that we have learned so much from. It has been very entertaining and knowledgeable to have guest in our class and team efforts to present presentations. Professor. Van is the best professor I have!
Professor V was an excellent teacher. I would definitely take him again in a heartbeat. He is very knowledgeable about the subject and makes sure that you learn it as well. His life stories were funny as well.
Professor V is definitely a fair teacher. If you do the work as he wants on his syllabus then you really shouldn't have a problem. Participate as much as you can in the online discussions, complete your papers on time, and do the quizzes. His quizzes and papers are fair too. Definitely recommend him!
Professor Van Vliet is a phenomenal teacher with no question asked. If it would come down to it I would certanly take his class again. He gives you incredible tips on how to run a business and how to suceed in it. He's expeienced in the field of business so he's very knowledgable of what he's talking about.
I love this class!! His stories are so interesting and really knows what he is talking about!!! Must take class!!
I loved Prof. V's class and learned so much from him. He is funny, enthusiastic, clear about his expectations and takes an interest in each students success. He is extremely knowledgeable in marketing and shares his experiences as it relates to the topics we discussed. I would jump at the opportunity to take another class under Prof. V
I absolutely loved him! He is a great professor, excellent lectures. But, he does expect you to do the work and do your best, I didn't mind. Overall, if you do your work and actually care that you suceed, you'll do great.
Enjoyable lectures. Prof. v knows his stuff. He really engages the class with a lot of good questions and examples. He outlines his expectations clearly at the beginning of the semester. Prof. v was very approachable and interested in seeing his students succeed. Do the work, participate and you should do well.
This class will not only help you succeed in your career, but also in life. Professor van Vliet put it best when he stated "we are all people and businesses are made up of people." Ethics are applied to everything we do and a solid understanding can help guide us through all of the decisions that we will face.
Prof. van Vliet is open with what he expects. Work hard, pay attention, and contribute. Really enjoyed this class, learned a lot and classroom dialogue was constant. Time went by fast in class!
Professor V helps open your mind regarding current event topics through open discussion forums and research. I learned to respect opinion of others and be tolerate of differences. I took during a winter semester, so class was fast paced. I would take a class from professor v again and recommend him for others.
Great professor. Took online and there is a good amount of discussion posts but if you stay on top of your work you will do fine. Responds to all emails in a matter of hours not days like some professors. I would definitely take him again.
Great Prof! Best part is he doesnt require a text book, just alot of reading. He's pretty good at responding to messages and prompt at returning hw and giving feedback. If you have an option of professors; TAKE van Vilet!
He doesn't explain things. Which can be very confusing, but if you ask for help he will deliver. You always have to intiate though. His lectures are very boring and lots of videos. They are also not very informative. He also expects anyone taking his class wants to run their own business! NO!! Other than that he is a good professor.
He makes you work for your grade, as it should be. He is an incredible man and professor.
One of the better professors I've experienced at the University. Not your typical Academic, instead an experienced guy from the corporate world who has a natural gift to teach. Students won't be disappointed - you'll learn if you care and show up. Curriculum is more "real world" and practical and less text book. Pick good group mates.
He is an excellent Professor! You have to attend class & complete assignments on time. Consultation, case study and presentations are the major parts of this course. This course is about putting what you learned in previous marketing courses into action. If you are serious, you want to learn; here is your guy! He is also kind, respectful, and FAIR.
I enjoyed Professor van Vliet class! He made learning exciting and used real life experiences to make the class more interesting! Take home test !!! loved it!!
this class was extremely useful when it comes to what direction i want to take in my college career, it allowed me to think outside of the box and challenged me positively.
Prof. Vliet teaching style was simple and clear cut. He stated the requirements for the class and assist whenever necessary. I would take this class again because it challenges me. This class brought to light things current and of the past, worldwide and allows us to share our views on the situation. Very conversational. I love it.
Very precise and more specific especially in giving instructions, inspirational, answers questions and emails as needed and less complicated. Would recommend this teacher to anybody wanting to take IDIS 302 next semester for you wouldn't regret. Would definitely take him again if I see his name under another course.
Very interesting, simulating class. I would take another course by this Professor.
Nice Professor
The class was great
There was no text book but there was a lot of articles that he provided to read. Some articles were very interesting others were the norm. He is very clear as to what he expects for this class and as long as you adhere to the syllabus you will be fine. If taken online there is a lot of work.
You must post multiple times a week. Ideally you will post to the discussion forum every day or 5 days a week.
It was a challenging and insightful semester.
Set very clear expectations and gave great feedback on assignments
The lectures, homework, and participation grade was clear. The course subject and comments about others opinions were enjoyable to write about. Three pages for the papers are standard, but the topics kept me writing even more.
Very informative! Great Prof. I took the class in an online format. Do not take this class if you think that you are taking a class for an easy grade. The material is not super hard, but you need to dedicate the effort. There are mandatory weekly discussion forums that are a large part of your grade. This is in place of the traditional lecture.
I took this class this semester and he was pretty horrible on having a heart. He was so strict on having this be like the real world that he forgot that things happen, the real world even accepts that things happen and gas sympathy for certain situations.
He is a great professor. Really gets the students engaged. Even though there are several group projects in this class, it was a fun class and I never minded going. Just show up and do what is expected of you. Easy to get a good grade in this class!
If you show up, participate and do the assignments, you will pass. There is group work associated with this class and the schedule can be demanding towards the end of the semester. He is very passionate about what he teaches and tries to encourage and give advice to help YOU! He makes the class fun! Thanks for another great semester Prof. V!
I took this class online. Great teacher and well organized. Allows you to start on your assignments ahead of time. You must participate in weekly discussions or else you will not pass the class. You also have to read articles that are associated with ethical principles. You will have four papers to type in this class but they are fairly easy.
Great teacher who knows how to incorporate his life experience into his teaching. Helps students succeed by informing students on different opportunities to enhance their skills. Full of knowledge and is more than willing to share.
Well-versed and knowledgeable in both marketing theory and real-world application. Emphasis on group projects and case studies. Be ready to collaborate with classmates. Gives opportunities through projects to develop and hone practical marketing skills. If you are looking to be taught by a true marketer, give him a try.
This class and the material covered was standard, I am not fond of group projects too many personalities, this does not reflect negatively on the prof. His goal is to teach people to work together, this was my only issue but I would select him as a professor again
Van Vliet was a great teacher. You had to work for your grade and working with groups was mandatory. If you pulled your weight and showed that you are trying you will do well in the class. There are a lot of individual case studies, but these will help prepare you for the bigger projects that you will have to complete with groups.
I enjoyed this professor and this class. It was an online class, but the instructions were clear and concise. If you participate and put in your best effort, it's an A+.
A solid teacher
Frank van Vliet is a great professor and the ethics class was very nice. However, you have to work for a good grade. There is a lot of material to read throughout the semester. Great class and interesting!
Great online class. Do your work early in the week, do it good, and turn everything in on time. Recommended
I really enjoyed taking this online class;he made very enjoyable
I took him online and it was overall a great class. I would reccommend it to anyone!
Frank van Vliet was a great professor. However, you have to work for your grade. You're required to log in EVERYDAY at least three or more times a day to post your response to different ethical topics. And you will have a lot of reading material throughout the semester. It was a Great class but it requires a lot!
Professor V. is well respected by students. The topics covered are quite interesting and engaging. I would definitely recommend him to future students. Take this class if you don't have lots of other classes, because it is very engaging and requires lot of readings, assignments and quizzes, and papers. But this class is very interesting.
I really enjoyed this class and it was very easy to engage in the discussions because of the real life cases involved. Professor V is fair to say the least and his criteria to pass is clear and to the point. All you have to do is the assignments, (BE ON TIME) discussions as outlined and you are guaranteed an A. He's an awesome professor also.
Clear as to what is expected in each assignment
Professor V. is a very good teacher. The topics covered are interesting and engaging. I would definitely recommend him to future students. Take this class if you don't have lots of other classes, because it is very engaging and requires lot of readings, assignments and quizzes, and papers. But this class is very interesting.
Great class! Professor van Vliet expects much but it is worth your time. You will learn so much in this class that makes you have a greater understanding of the world around you.
Professor Van Vliet was great. He was clear on expectations. He also made the lectures fun and entertaining, it had me looking forward to learning. The way he teaches this course really makes you think and apply what we have learned in class. In order to do well, you have to stay on top of participation and engage.
Great Professor. Pay attention in class, complete the assignments and the class is easy.
Best Class I Have Ever Taken!
Tough but fair seems to be his teaching style. He's not afraid to let you know what you need to work on.
He really wants you to learn, It is a bit tough, but it is a great experience for taking his class.
This is my final semester and this was the best instructor I had since attending University of Baltimore.
Thank you, Prof. van Vliet!
Professor is very thorough you work for your grade but he provides you with everything in order to be successful
you will get easy A, if you do all the assignments on time , there are many homework that you should aware of them. but in general he is the easy and great professor.
get ready to take on a ton of work. Overall I learned a ton and enjoyed the experience
Well done.
I enjoyed taking this class. Though there was a lot of homework and tons of readings, Dr. van Vliet was very thorough in what he expected from his students. He gives a step by step rubric for everything, so if you follow the guidelines carefully you will easily succeed. P.S. I wouldn't take this with an English class; reading and writing overload.
Great professor. I wouldn't say hard, just do the work be creative and take his advice. He knows what he's talking about.
No reason you shouldn't pass if you do the work. Fun lectures that won't put you to sleep, and projects are done in groups.
Great Professor !
He's an awesome professor! I've taken his classes a few times during university and always like his teaching methods. his lectures are fun and interesting. If you get the opportunity to take this class or any of his class, do it!
His Expectations are very clear and laid out for all the projects. There is a relaxed atmosphere and a very creative setting.
Awesome professor! Makes the class interesting by sharing his personal experiences with class. He's willing to help his students succeed.
The group projects are great because participation matters a lot. People who do nothing suffer. Only criticism is that there are no reminders for online quizzes.
I loved Prof. v! I deff recommend him! There were cases due every week toward the middle of the semester, some online quizzes, endless presentations and group projects. Overall he offers a crystal clear grading criteria, just show up to class and do as you're told. He's also pretty funny.
Very informative class. He gives you the opportunity to express yourself . You must be willing to participate.
This class was great. We were given the opportunity to express ourselves in a variety of topics and the professor was VERY involved even though it was an online class (which is unheard of). He gave great feedback and great insights into ethics. In order to pass, you MUST participate! No easy A and be prepared to participate in lots a writing that force you to dig deep.
Professor V has very clear grading criteria and makes you think in the class by posting forums and articles to share your opinion and comments. I really enjoyed his class and his teaching style. He posts the grading rubric for the papers and what he expects from the students. After hearing all of the hype about Mark Bell, I am glad i took Prof V.
This was a very day retake course .This professor is not hard at all . I can rate this as top pick .
Great class and prof.
Professor V made my semester so easy. He was clear with what he expected, was always available to talk, and graded everything quickly. We did have to do weekly readings, quizzes, 2 exams, and 2 group presentations. But it was so simple, as long as you participate. 10/10 would recommend.
Excellent. Professor V made the class easy and simple. He is accessible and grades very quickly. With that being said, you must complete your assignments and participate. You will not succeed in life by doing the bare minimum.
This professor was great and shows he cares. Even with his real life experience in the marketing world is shown through his lectures. I reached out to him to be a mentor before I even took his class that's how great he is. The group projects are preparing you for the marketing world and are really good to help develop various skills that are needed.
I really appreciate this course at the time of my career. Thanks.
The course is informative and forces you to think outside the box. Be prepared to participate in the online discussion forum.
Good online class, that requires daily discussion board participation. No answer is an wrong answer, as long as it is coming from within your personal perspective (i love that). The daily participation could be somewhat challenging if you have a demanding job schedule, but you do what you have to do. Never met the professor but i like him
Need to spend lot on study. Lot of discussion need to post almost every day.
Very Knowledgeable!
I took this class online in the summer. Get ready to read at about 40-90 pages per week. Lots if homework! If you make submission on Thursdays or Fridays its counted against you. If you work hard you will pass the class. This class can be an easy A if taken in the Fall.
Great professor. Very knowledgable and encourages participation. If you are taking online class be prepared to post a lot in the online discussion. Requires a lot of your time, but it is very manageable .
Clear expectations, interesting materials, stimulating questions, positive feedback... I leave this class with a wealth of knowledge that I can apply in real world of business.
Professor Van Vliet was fair and held all students to a good standard level of participation, he gave great accurate feedback. I truly enjoyed his course and would take any of his classes again.
Very great professor Requires you to spend great amount of your time on readings, and discussion forums Provides good feedback on the papers. Tough grader to certain extent Follow his rules/syllabus and spend time on discussion forums and it would be achievable to get a good grade. Despite many readings and some videos, very interesting discussions
Hes a great teacher very talkative but great stories
He is an overall great professor. If you don't know much about business or entrepreneurship, you quickly become well-versed in the terminology and methods of good business. He has plenty of stories to draw you in the first couple weeks and he helps you succeed by giving feedback on your presentations. After all, he is a professional marketer.
great prof. , you do everything online and you dont need to worry about it. i love how in every class before the exam he gives us 10 questions with the answer from both the midterm and final exam. overall great teacher i recommend taking him. If i had another marketing class i would take him , but i am not a marketing major.
Prof V is a wonderful teacher and person, I would love to take another class with him
Professor V is well versed in creative marketing tactics. In this class we had to build a marketing plan for real life small businesses/non-profits. So beware to work in groups, actually 80% of the class is group work.
We had two big projects, one partnership and one group. His feedback on the partnership wasn't very specific, but we got an A. He talks and tells stories in class which helps remember things but he tells the same story a few times. He's fairly easy going but you don't typically get much time to ask or answer questions.
The Marketing project for Furbish in my opinion was too involved. The company itself was not established enough in marketing plans for class to expand on. Very difficult and lost interest for the project.
Professor V is a great professor! He's the perfect mix of professional, personable, industry knowledgeable, and humorous. His marketing expertise does not go unnoticed either. I've taken two classes with him thus far (ethics/marketing), and would serve under his teaching for a third class if available. Get ahead of the class readings and papers.
The professor was great at lectures.
Great professor with great lectures
This is class is the best I have taken as it taught me what I will face in the real world. Companies presentations and professionals talks were inspiring. I will definitely recommend Prof. V to any students taking individual projects and marketing.
The class was great. I felt as though I deserved the grade I received.
actually learn stuff in his class. he keeps it entertaining and engaging. definitely would take him again for any other classes if he taught them.
The professor definitely gives a lot of work and makes me wish I had taken the course on campus instead of online but i definitely learned a lot in the online forum. Very harsh grader, If you miss an assignment then tough luck. I wish that I felt like I could email or talk to them about assignments but not that type of class.
I would definitely recommend this class. Best Professor that I have had in a very long time. He is fun, lectures are never dull, and he makes you think.
I like him a lot. Hope to have another class with him.
He was such a great professor that I'll be taking another class taught by him! He gives great feedback and keeps the lecture light and fun. His expectations are clear and grading is concise. One of my favorite liked professors I've had!
Overall, it was a good class.
Extra credit to bring up your grade and participation in events.
The class was easy as long as you do all the requirements. For online class - participate in daily "discussion forums," take chapter quizzes (full credit for just taking them), two tests, and one paper (analysis of a company). Professor V posts very interesting DQs that make you think. He responds fast, gives good feedback, and grades fairly.
There was a lot of work to this class but it was do-able. If you sign on every day and comment on discussions, do the LearnSmart online assignments on time, and overall keep on top of things you will do fine. Overall it seemed like a lot of work but it wasn't really hard work, more of busy work.
Awesome class. The discussion forum is where you learn your material. I loved the way the independent learning was supplemented with class participation.
He's very passionate about Marketing! I'm happy I was able to have him for a few classes.
took his online class.. Lots of discussion post overall pretty good professor. Responds to emails got an A- I was sure I would get A+
Hes awesome
He is very nice, very helpful professor. I would like to take him again .
The best professor I ever had in my college career. Really knows his work and I learned a lot from him.
Prof. Van Vliet is one of the best professors at UB. He tells jokes and keeps class interesting. His assignments were challenging but provided real life information and experience. Hope to have him again
Prof. V makes you feel like he actually cares. He is knowledgeable and tells interesting stories that make class more fun. He provides his own real world experiences which is helpful.
Do the homework and participate
A very straightforward class. Work is clearly outlined and not heavy.
The class wasn't helpful whatsoever. He gets side tracked very easily by questions that are irrelevant to the class which makes the rest of the class that wants to learn affected. He grades way to harsh for this to be an intro class. And doesn't give feedback on what you did wrong. Make sure you staple your papers or that's about 5 points off.
Great teacher. Has a wealth of knowledge. Be ready to figure out things on your own. Is ready to answer questions when you need to ask.
Prof. V is awesome. His passion for teaching shows through his lectures and feedback. He's also got tons of stories to share.
Was my favorite class of the semester! Professor van Vliet was a breath of fresh air.. being a marketing major I feel like the class reassured me that I was majoring in the right field and made me excited for the world of Marketing. Very prompt grader, gives extensive feedback on all assignments.. attendance is necessary and a percentage of grade
I really enjoyed Prof. v's Marketing course at UB. It can feel overwhelming at first, but if you stay fully involved and keep up with the discussion posts and readings, it is definitely rewarding. I learned a lot in this quick 5-week course, and Prof. v was always VERY quick to respond to email questions.
Really great professor overall, extremely respectful towards students. Answers questions in a timely manner as well. As long as you do the work and show effort you'll do well.
I have taken this professor for all of my marketing courses and have never had a complaint. He brings real-world experience to the table and makes it a lot easier to learn the different concepts.
I really enjoyed this class under professor V's leadership. Prof V provided great resources for learning in class and to reflect upon when the course is over. The weekly discussions, very engaging. Prov V posted interesting content that required us to read, learn, and reflect on the topic. The simulations/great. Professor V SUPER FANTASTIC!
As long as you complete your assignments you will receive a good grade. Easy to connect and gets back to you quickly to answer any questions.
This was my second time taking a course with Prof. V. He's a great professor that cares about his students. I took MKTG405 as an elective and it had a ton of great information about how to market yourself or your business online .
In this class, the professor provided us a lot of material, both text and video, to read and comment on on top of the required text. Whereas this did make this a time consuming course, the additional learning was enriching, and did not feel like busy work. I look forward to learning from this professor again.
This is my third class with Professor V. and my first online class and I have enjoyed all of them! I have learned a lot through the simulations we had to complete this semester and they were very fun to finish! I highly recommend Professor V. for anyone that is ready to learn a lot in a way that is actually fun!
I've had Prof.V for 3 classes now, he's extremely knowledgeable, very encouraging towards his students and their success, and all around really cares about what the students take away from the course. The assignments are very straight forward, any questions you have he is happy to answer, and his discussion really get you thinking and engaged.
This is my second time taking professor van Vliet and I do not regret it. He truly cares for his students and wants them to do the best that they can. The class was organized and set up to actually learn rather than a pass or fail. I would definitely take another class with him.
Professor VanVliet puts a lot of work into is teaching and expects his students to do the same. I have had him multiple times and he is a demanding teacher that should be taken only if you want to learn a significant amount and improve your study habits. I have no complaints except that I wish he was a teacher for some of my core classes.
Prof. V is excellent. He is concise with his assignments and discussions, quick to answer any questions you have via email, and just an overall great teacher. The weekly discussions can be a bit much sometimes, 74% for the initial post, then 2% for each additional response, but if you come ready to participate you'll likely get an "A".
I was really impressed with how thorough he was in the online digital marketing class. Most professors I've had in online classes haven't kept up with the class and engaged with students as much as he has. Make sure you check in every single day to complete the discussion forums! You can't BS the forums in this class.
By far my favorite course at university of Baltimore. Would highly recommend for marketing students. Students will help non-profit organizations develop a business plan for their company. Had 2 exams at the early part of the class and the remaining was preparation for the marketing plan. Prof V is by far my favorite professor at UB.
Very great Marketing professor who uses his years of knowledge and combines it with up to date concepts and tools. I was able to apply what I learned in real time, The marketing consultant project is fun, it's a lot of work but It's worth it if you are serious about a career in todays Marketing.
Great professor, was able to use a social media marketing simulator and what I learned applied in real life with my own businesses
I like this class. It was an online class but there was a lot to learn and i did learn a lot. It was because of clear teaching method.
Professor van Vliet is a fantastic professor. If you do your assignments on time, you will be fine.
he was really good with being on time about returning your work so you know what you need to do to correct yourself for the next time.
As long as you participate in forums discussions and complete your work an time, you shouldn't too difficult a time.
As long as you participate consistently in discussion forums you'll be fine! Case studies and quizzes are challenging but you'll have no trouble if you completed the reading. Also, no text required! Yay!! Professor always encouraged students to offer their perspectives to topics. Great experience, would definitely recommend!
This is my 3rd class this year with this professor and if possible I will take him again for as many of my Business/Marketing classes possible. He is the real deal and his knowledge can be applied in real-time. There is nothing negative that I can say, if you have the option take his classes you will come out of it learning more than you expect.
Proff provided me with relevant feedback in each assignment I submitted. This enabled me improve on each of the subsequent assignments. One of the key areas of feedback I received is in relation to participation in class discussions. The grading criteria was spot on. It enable me plan for my work.
If you are willing to put in the extra work to keep up with this professor's expectations, you will get more out of this class than you would with an average professor. If you are looking for an easy A in a class looks low committment, then you've chosen unwisely.
This is the type of professor you want for a capstone class like this. The amount of work in the first six weeks was equivilant to a whole semester of an easy class, allowing him to guide students through the truly impactful work we completed in the second portion of the class.
Professor V. is very knowledgeable and an expert in the field of Marketing. He does a great job challenging the class to reach their full potential. Professor V. also does a great job making himself available for any extra help. He is an overall great professor.
Professor was great. He helped me when I had an issue with the books. Great communication. I would recommend him and I would love to have him as a professor again.
It was an easy class if you kept up with the discussion and read the chapters. The textbook is required for quizzes and case studies. He answers emails so quickly and is very helpful with everything.
Literally asks students to leave a review on here, so dont take them too seriously. One of the most annoying instructors I have ever had. Unorganized and one of those instructors who will never give you a 100% on anything. The amount of work he expects is insane. I could go on...
If you're looking for an insightful learning experience on how to compete in a digital marketing world or building your own SEO, this professor will help you take the plunge to understand all aspects and the fundamentals of this topic and more. What differentiates this professor is content utilization for discussions and engaging learning tools.
Not a bad professor but not the best either. Sometimes I feel like he acts like he is better than everybody and everyone sits below him. At least the weekly quizzes were not worth a lot but he will help you on your projects, just email him. Not super demanding either just ask for you to come to class and throughout he gives a few extra credit.
I love Professor Van Vliet! I've had him in a few classes and I love each one. Discussion is huge in this class and the projects take some time but if you show him you put work in he will give you a good grade. He's also easy to get in contact with if you have any questions about the homework or tests.
Professor Van Vliet is a fantastic professor! He knows what he is talking about, relates stuff we are learning to something we all commonly know, will help you if you are having a hard time understanding. He does have a little bit of an attitude but overall a fantastic and good professor! I would take another course by him!
Professor Van Vliet is a really excellent professor. He TRULY knows his stuff and how to teach it. He will relate the topic we are learning to something we all commonly know. He is very clear to how he wants things done and how they are graded. I would take him again.
It was great
A really good professor. The workload is a bit on the high side with discussion form posts being your initial post and 10-15 replies to get 90-100%. Besides that, he is a fast communicator with emails and very helpful. Don't be afraid to reach out to him for help.
I enjoyed IDIS302. Prof. v does require a lot of discussion posts, at least 10-15 comments a week. There are 8 or 9 quizzes based on weekly readings. And 4 major papers are expected throughout the semester. If there are any questions or concerns, Prof. v will respond to emails pretty quickly.
Prof. V. expects a lot but he is fair. There are a lot of discussion posts that make you think and you are required to participate heavily in discussions. Every issue or question has been responded very quickly. It is a great class that made me think outside the box, and helped me to grow as an individual.
This is my second time having this professor at UB. He gives clear instructions and grades fairly. Although there is a lot of reading, it is is college after all. The reading is crucial in passing this class. I felt that he really wants his students to pass his class and always replies to emails in a timely manner.
Professor van Vliet is a great teacher and I would definitely recommend him to others 100%, be prepared to be on your A-game all semester because he will not take your excuses for late assignments so make sure you stay on top on your work and pay attention to the due dates.
I LOVED this class! Professor V is super attentive, replies to emails super quickly, and does everything to help you. Plus the discussions are not boring it is always some interesting subject. I have learned so much about Digital Marketing in this class and it wasn't hard to get a good grade. I will definitely take my next marketing course with him
Prof. van Vliet is a great teacher who uses readings to explain/apply ethical theories. If you have taken philosophy you will be familiar with most of the theories used but you will be asked to apply those to real world case studies. Participation in discussion forums is key, but if you follow his directions you will easily get an A in the course.
The course is a tough one, but not impossible if you follow the guidelines from the syllabus. Its writing heavy! But Proff. V is always accessible for students. Though it was challenging I feel the information I learned here was worth it. I also loved the discussion forms!
Professor V is the best marketing professor that I have had! He cares about the topics and about the students. He is super flexible, laid-back and want you to succeed. What I liked the most about his class is the real-life exemples that he gives when explaining a concept.
Overall, I enjoyed Professor van Vliet. He was clear and up front with his expectations from the start. The only negative I had about this class was that the course load is pretty heavy and you are expected to have 12-15 discussion posts a week. I understand it was meant to replace in person class conversations but it was a lot to get used to.
He is a really nice professor. I took the course online, but anytime I needed to email him, he would respond right away. The amount of homework is bearable. I don't have any complaints for this semester and I would take him again. You will get a good grade if you do the work and try your best.
Professor v is fantastic. He encourages in-depth discussions and is very supportive. There is a lot of reading, but it's practical. His papers are not complicated, but he has a stringent grading policy. He always lets you know what to expect, so there are no surprises. Professor v helped me graciously through several personal issues his semester.
Prof v is fantastic and engaging. He set clear grading criteria and was there for me when I had several personal issues. He also served as my faculty advisor for another project. Participate and ask questions- he is very easy to talk to and takes the time to ensure comprehension. This was a great class.
The class itself is tough! , but it is manageable. I learned new things regarding ethics. You will definitely need to set aside several hrs. a week for this class between LOTS of reading , weekly quizzes ,& daily posts. Professor V made the assignment directions clear, and he gave PLENTY of heads up about due dates. The feedback was very helpful!
He is there to help you and he helps!! I feel more prepared for a marketing career more than ever!
Prof V is engaging and provides clear guidance. There's a lot of reading, but the assignments are manageable. Attendance is mandatory, but worth it to dive into thought-provoking discussions. unstuckstudy ai was super helpful for staying on top of the workload.
I enjoyed the class, especially the marketing simulation, which was eye-opening and helped put the lessons into perspective in a real-world context. I did find that we didnt have as much guidance on the simulation as I would have liked, but I was able to find online resources to help.
This class pushed me to completely rethink marketing..not just as a business function, but as a powerful tool for growth. The materials were current, the examples were practical. As a business owner, I walked away with real strategies I can apply immediately. Highly recommend this course and to anyone serious about building a brand for business.
