Best class I've ever taken! Highly recommend!
Very cool, hip teacher. He even has his own band. I loved his class. It was an easy A but I had fun learning and listening to music.
easy class, teachers great, and you only have 3 tests the whole semester
one of the fun class ever existed in CSU...I just loved it...I learned a lot and had fun as well...
Very nice teacher. Tests are based off the lectures. He lets you know exactly what's going to be on the test (reviews class before test). I hardly went to class due to my schedule but wished I could have attending more often. I took my own notes according to the syllabus and his review and passed w/ an easy B.
Best class ever!
This class was amazing. It was interesting and kept my attention every day! If it weren't for this class I would have skipped com 211 every day!
Awesome teacher and great class. Lecture is fun and educational. Easy A if you pay attension and review. Interesting stuff that almost everyone likes. Great stories and teaching aids to reenforce main points. I would recomment this to anyone.
The EASIEST A you will ever get!! Counts for a GenEd. But you have to go to class just to absorb the info and take notes. Shows lots of videos towards the end of the semester. Don't buy the book. He told me that!! Fun class about the roots of American music. Something there for everyone to enjoy. And he's TOTALLY laid back.
Very good professor. Really enjoyed being in class. A lot of videos to watch. I loved his tests cuz they were extremely easy.
hes great!
GR8 TEACHER..ESAY FUN AND ONLY 3 TESTS FOR THE WHOLE SEMESTER. HE TAUGHT ME ALOT
Easy class. Must attend lectures though if you don't have the book. Lots of videos shown throughout the semester. Laid back atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone.
Hottie ;)& a great professor.
Very easy class if you attend and take notes. Shows videos and recordings of performances quite often. Attendance not mandatory. Tests are 50 multiple choice questions. Be careful though as he will include questions that were only discussed in class and not in the book, which we never used. A great teacher and a nice person.
I loved this class. He made it so interesting and fun. The exams were super easy as long as you go to class and pay attention. I hardly used my book because he told us everything that would be on the exams. Great teacher!
NICE TEACHER & CLASS.
GREAT CLASS. Dont buy the book!!! he never made us use it. He gives all the same tests. Study the notes. Doesnt take attendance. FUN class
He's really funny and nice. It's a fun class. It's an easy A. Take it if you have a chance.
He was an amazing teacher, this class was worth going to, he was not only very informative, but he made the class fun and a great experience. Definitely take roots of rock & soul if you can!
Great teacher. Very passionate about music. Made the class interesting and enjoyable. I highly recommend him for Roots of Rock & Soul.
One of THE best teachers I've ever had! He knows everything about the class and more! All you have to do in the class is take notes and you'll be fine! DEFINITELY take Roots of Rock & Soul!
He is AWESOME! The class is never boring. Even though attendence is not mandatory, he goes over a lot of notes that are not in the book. If you show up, pretty much you pass. This is the easiet class you could ever take.
a direct quote from Frank Vazzano would be; "At age 5, i soon realized that it was Johnny Cash and I, vs., the Man." Enough said.
His tests are very easy. He wrote the book so you have to get it and the homework (which is extreemly easy)comes from it. Frank seems like a really good guy and he's an excelent teacher. Take this class if you need a easy G.P.A booster.
Took this class Spring 2010 when he used a different book, but reading the others I'm assuming the class is otherwise unchanged. Had three 50Q MC exams with plenty of chances for extra credit. Class included lectures, listening to period music, and watching biographies that you would find on any music channel. Highly recommended for an easy A.
Easily the best class I have taken here! Very interesting, he is hysterical and extremely passionate about the subject. I would recommend his class to anyone.
This class is highly easy and the only real homework that we have is the chapter reviews in the book which he pretty much gives you close to all of the answers. The exams are also very easy all are multiple choice scantron so you dont even really have to study. Last but not least The Beatles section that he teaches is awesome/take it for 4credits
Frank is a riot and knows a ton about the subject. Material is easy too!
Very nice guy. Made the class very fun and super enthusiastic about the material. Easy A if you come to class and take notes.
Cool guy, interesting class.
Although the class is not mandatory, the tests are completely based on lectures. Only need textbook to do the Chapter Reviews worksheets. Very easy class if you can stay awake and pay attention during his lectures. Be prepared to watch videos every class.
as long as you show up and pay attention, which isnt hard because he makes it interesting, you will pass. He is a fantastic teacher and very helpful. The book i bought was ruined and he copied all the homework and emailed it to me so i could still do it. Plus he is kinda sexy...just saying
Extremely sexy which makes concentration on the lectures effortless. Attendance is mandatory because exams are almost exclusively lecture based. Love the topic and the musical selection is phenomenal. Highly recommend.
Coolest professor I have ever had, easy class just attend and listen
If you go to CSU, i don't care who you are, TAKE THIS CLASS. It's really fun, the guy is down to Earth, and you can listen to REAL music instead of that Nicki Minaj crap. Attending lectures gets you all the answers for tests, and homework is 1/4 of the final grade. IF YOU GO TO CSU, TAKE THIS CLASS. I am pushing everyone to take it ASAP.
He is not only hot, but so passionate about music. He keeps the class interesting. It's not mandatory to go to class but i suggest not missing the lectures.
Don't go to class and study off the book. FAIL! Go to class take notes. ITS AN EASY A CLASS. Did I say EASY A??? Anyways he keeps the class interesting, jumps every where down to earth. Great class.
He is awesome at what he teaches. He makes the class very interesting and we get to listen to music and watch movies. I loved his class!!! I highly recommend for everyone to take it. I was very satisfied.
SO AWESOME
BEST PROFESSOR!!! VERY EASY A ONLY IF YOU READ THE BOOK, STUDY FOR THE EXAMS, ATTEND CLASS!!! WE WATCHED VIDEOS AND LISTENED TO MUSIC!! ABSOLUTELY LOVED HIM!!! HE IS VERY ENTHUSIASTIC
Good teacher. Made the class fun and easy to follow. You do need the book for this class, just for assignments that are due more at the end so you have time.Other than than that there isn't any homework.
Great professor. If you don't attend class - YOU WILL BE SCREWED OVER. The textbook ends around the 1960s, but we still continue to learn up to the 80s! SO GO TO CLASS OR YOU WILL FAIL. I went to class everyday and everything about the course was very interesting. Very fair tests and grading. He's awesome and high on life.
He is a real fun guy that lightens up the class room. He is more than willing to help students. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended for success in the class. The text book is required for homework.
Prof. Vazzano was an amazing teacher! I'm going to miss not having his class anymore. He is very chill, laid back, and hilarious. He makes class fun and his apparent interest in the subject shows through and makes the class more interesting. I genuinely enjoyed his class. The material was very interesting and presented well and the class was easy.
Definitely take this class if you have the chance! Frank is awesome, and you can tell he enjoys teaching the content. Great for music lovers and people curious to learn alike! BUY THE BOOK. You need it! Especially helpful if you miss a lecture or two, but also because there are homework assignments due at each midterm. Very easy class.. very FUN.
Hes fun the class is Fun ... the book you'll need ... attendance is only mandatory if you want him to tell you what exactly is on the test he tends to underline song titles and emphasis names that will be on exams ... the class it self is fun and i recommend it
Great class to take. I highly recommend it to all. Professor is high energy and keeps the class engaged. The content matter is very interesting. I would recommend attending all classes as he brings up things only mentioned in the lectures on tests. The last week of lectures are crucial to passing the exam.
I loved this class. The entire subject of the history of rock and roll is really interesting, and it's really nice when you have a professor who genuinely loves what he's teaching about. As long as you go to the class you'll pass. Awesome class, even better professor. Definitely recommend taking this class to fulfill a gen ed requirement.
He was hands-down the best Professor I've had so far. You need to go to class (although not mandatory) and buy the textbook. he's so interested in the topic which makes class more interesting for you.
Hot and enthusiastic! This class is fun and if you ever watched VH1 or listened to your parents music you will get at least a B. Oh and he's a hot middle aged man lol.
Great teacher, great class. Definitely recommend everyone to take it.
Professor Frank Vazzano is Awesome!! I enjoyed every single lecture with him. Very easy course, only 2 exams and 1 homework assignment. Attendance is not mandatory, but exam questions are straight from class notes. it was my very first class at CSU and got A-. Easy Course!!!
Easy class, fun lectures. Honestly the only class I looked forward to. Frank is attractive too for an older gentleman, so that's a plus. Just show up and you will be alright.
He was an amazing professor that i would love to take again for a different music class. Show up, take notes, study the notes, and you will do great on the exams. Homework is pretty easy as well. I will miss his class!
easy class the only thing i didnt like is that the final exam is all from the lectures not the book at all, so for the second half of the semester you have to show up and take notes and you will get a good grade
Loved this class as a gen-ed. He's very engaging and really into the subject matter, not to mention funny and outgoing! Tests weren't bad as long as you took notes in class.
Best teacher yet, truly one of the best. Kind, polite, smart, funny, and outgoing. He tells great stories. You spend many classes just listening to music. Easy credit, I highly recommend the course.
If you're interested in rocksoulfunk music at all, odds are you'll enjoy class. Frank has a unique way of storytelling that is insightful and engaging. It's an extremely easy class that you can blow off and still get an A, but you ought to respect the guy for being such a down to earth teacher. Absolutely take this class.
Great Professor. Inspirational to others including himself. He is very passionate about his teachings. Read the texts before going to class so that you may have a better understanding of the lecture. Easy A class I would recommend to everyone. Tests are off the notes so show up to class if you want an A.
Vazzano is insanely into music and the history of music and makes for great lectures. He is absolutely hilarious and I loved the passion he has for the material he teaches. I would love to take more of his classes but unfortunately I am not a music major!
This class was fantastic. I would take it again if I could in a heart beat. Frank is always so excited about what he is talking about, hysterical, and you can tell he truly loves what he does. Definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in music, or looking for a fun class.
Good overall teacher. He used to be or maybe still is in a rock band so he's passionate about what he teaches. Don't think that just because the book ended there's no more class because your wrong. The final is always based on Lectures so make sure YOU GO also the way he writes his notes are kinda all over the place so make sure you pay attention.
Amazing!! I love him so much, the class is an easy A and even if you're not into music he's hilarious and you will enjoy the lectures!
This was the best class I think I'll ever take at CSU. Professor Vazzano is passionate about music and because of that, he makes the class extremely interesting and fun. This is a class you need to take notes for. Some people seemed to write nothing but a name down with no description; I wouldn't recommend this. If you love music, take this class.
Hilarious and makes the class very easygoing. No powerpoints just him lecturing so make sure you take notes and go to every class. We use a book he wrote himself for the homework and there's also like 3 tests but that's it.
Hands down the best professor anybody could ever have at CSU. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches, making the lectures interesting. If you're into music, this class is one you definitely have to take. I wish I could have him as a professor again!
Straight-forward lectures with a relaxed vibe. The textbook is required for class, and it DOES cost a pretty penny, so prepare to photocopy or cough up a hundred bucks. No papers. Doing homework is pretty close to studying, but he will go over key topics to study the class before the exam. Approachable and funny.
Frank is so hilarious and makes sure he cares about what he teaches. Take this class even if you don't like music, he will MAKE YOU like different topics and makes the class super interesting.
One of the best classes I've ever taken at Cleveland State! He is really funny and he really has a passion for what he is teaching. I really enjoyed he lectures, they aren't mandatory and he doesn't take attendance, but if you don't go, you'll be the one missing out. He's really chill and he is extremely nice to his students.
This professor was great. He is always cracking jokes while giving amazing lectures. Many teachers seem like they are apathetic or just teaching for a paycheck, but this teacher is truly passionate about what he teaches and he always keeps his students entertained. He's funny, passionate, and always keeps the class interested with his music class.
Frank is such a cool professor. His classes are very relaxed and he makes them really fun. Although the subject is kinda boring to me, I loved going to the classes just because of him. You only really have 3 tests and 3 homework assignments but if you show up to class and take notes, they're really easy. Overall a really fun class!!
He's an amazing professor and actually cares about the material he's teaching which is SO refreshing. He's so passionate about music which makes the lectures worth going to. He wrote the text book so everything he writes on the board is on the test. So show up to class and it'll be an easy A!
Professor Vazzano is passionate about music and makes his lectures interesting. The downfall is that he plays A LOT of videos, which makes it feel like a total waste of time to go to his class. The videos often repeat what he's talking about. It's slow paced and you could pass without attending, just make sure to read the textbook and study
He is an amazing teacher, and I highly recommend that anyone interested take this class! Make sure you take notes in class because that is what you are tested on. Especially for the last exam its all lecture notes.
You never have to participate but make sure you take notes because those are his test questions. He's very knowledgable about this course and makes it interesting. You MUST buy the book though because it has homework in it, which is expensive. If you want a good grade you need to go to class! Overall, a good professor that I would take again.
Frank is one of the best professors ever at CSU. I never thought that I would love his class as much as I did. I went to every single class which he takes notice of. The textbook is mandatory but the topics are not hard. If you read over the notes from the lecture the night before the exam you'll get an A. Would love to take another class with him.
The absolute best at CSU.
Vazzano is HILARIOUS! very easy going and chill. Attendance isn't mandatory technically, but its mandatory. By this I mean that if you miss class, you better have someone to get you amazing notes or just don't skip, because you will miss something important. All of his exam material come from lectures, so be diligent. 10/10 would have again. Funny!
I didn't know ANYTHING about music and I LOVED this class. Taking tons of hard classes and stressing only to attend this class and hear a great lecture made my semester. Do your homework ( I got all of it done for the entire semester in the first 3 weeks) , take notes he writes on the board (They are literally your exam) & There's your A!
Definitely attend class and take notes. Because the test is usually from the lecture notes. VERY EASY A.
Hes was really funny and it was a good class!
You don't get lots of homework for the semester just two things, so the exams are all based on his lectures and if you don't have the notes from the lecture you won't pass, he doesn't post lectures online or slides he uses a chalkboard most of the time.
The homie Frank. Easy and very cool class. Super cool and funny guy. Dont buy the textbook. Just come to class and take notes and itll be easy.
Professor Vazzano is not a boring professor. His classes were always interesting and he taught with enthusiasm. There wasn't much homework to do and his tests were easy. This is an easy class as long as you attend lecture and take notes.
Pros: Class is always entertaining and fun. Professor vazzano always gives everything you need to pass. Cons: lectures can be all over the place, because the professor is so passionate he gets sidetracked and goes out of order here and there. Also, the in class tests can be somewhat difficult and theres not many assignments so study hard.
So easy to learn from this professor, you will fall in love with the subject matter. One of the best teachers I've had at any level of education
This is not an easy class to take as an elective. If you don't know a lot about the history of music already, then get ready to study hard. he wrote the textbook that is required for the class but still wants us to buy it.
A really nice guy, actually enjoys the topic he teaches. Attendance isn't mandatory, but as long as you have a friend who takes the notes for you your fine. The notes he gives you are basically the test word for word. The book I would say isn't mandatory but if you need something extra to study with then you might want to invest in it. Good Luck!
As an admittedly lazy student, Vazzano has been one of my favorite professors at CSU. He's clearly passionate about both the subject and his students, and is always up for chatting after class if you have any questions or comments. Easy quizzes if you take notes during the lectures. Highly recommend for anyone considering taking his class!
Rock and Soul class was fun! His lectures are entertaining. However, he never responds to his email and as a shy person I'm intimidated by the small crowd that gathers around him after class to ask questions. I missed a week due to covid, but he wouldn't respond to my email. Things were said in the lecture that weren't in the textbook.
Class was comprised of only 4 online quizzes and 3 in person exams. Exams were fairly tough but easy to study for if you pay attention in class. Lectures are the entire in person meetings but his lectures are fun and I generally enjoyed the class.
He has so much passion for what he is lecturing about. If you take well notes, you will do good on exams. Class is not mandatory, but all exam material comes from lectures. Make a friend in the class for notes if you ever miss a day. I enjoyed all his lectures. One of the few classes I was actually excited to go to.
Roots of Rock & Roll was such a fun class to take. Was surprised that the class didn't ask more questions, comment on great video collections. 1930s-60 music must seem ancient history to today's students. The ones of us who lived it, appreciated Frank's storytelling and class content.
The way he lectures and talks to us really connects and i can feel everything he says, great projection and style of teaching, almost wish i could take this class forever!
prof vazzano roots of rock and soul class is extremely easy if you go to class!! everything he writes on the board is on the exam. quizzes are online, and he will choose a random day in the middle of the semester to start taking attendance. he really enjoys what he teaches and is a very flexible person!
Professor Vazzano's MUS161 class is a fun and engaging experience. He's clearly passionate about the subject, though his lectures can sometimes get a bit disorganized. Attend class, take notes, and use Unstuck ai for extra study prep - you'll get an easy A.
