He's a great teacher. As long as you show up to class, take decent notes, and keep up with the reading, you should do well.
Very good teacher. If you do your homework, the tests will look very familiar! If you don't understand something, go get help, he is very willing to help you out.
This class is great if you're a guy. Just take him out to eat and you can up your grade. But if you're a girl- good luck. There is a ton of memorization of equations and ratios required for the tests.
Frank is really good. The man loves accounting and loves talking about it. Study the web page problems for the tests and you'll be golden.
Frank is a super nice guy and is willing to help you if you put the effort in. I think he is a bad teacher though. He doesn't really teach you so you can learn, he teaches so you can pass his tests that is all.
I've taken his class, I am a girl, he was great. Terrific sense of humor-and bakes cookies!
He is unethical. Don't appriciate the fact that he lets students take him dinner and bring him gifts. He needs to change his ways.
Professor loves accounting! It was a hard class for me, because I don't like accounting, but if you study the homework problems and examples in class, you'll pass the tests. The class was large so it was difficult to get one-on-one question time with him even during office hours.
he is by far the best teacher i have ever had. go talk to him and he will give you as much help as you need and he is willing to work with you. i hated accounting and he made it fun for me and interesting to learn. i am currently thinking about changing my major because of him.
Great teacher. He's there all day everyday helping out his students.
Frank taught me absolutely nothing about consolidations. His idea of teaching is to pass out the same packets he's been using since the dawn of time and let you work on it yourself while he chats with students to decide where they'll take him to lunch next week.
A very hard-complicated-(high graded) exams are given a lot of grades. He speaks as fast as F16 you could not follow. All the answers on his multichoice questions contain ?none of above? which makes it even harder. He claims that acct 2020 is thinking class while he give students a review looks exactly like 2-3 questions.
Frank is a fun teacher. I felt like sometimes he was just teaching us to pass his test (that he wrote 20 years ago) and not to actually understand the fundamentals of Accounting. Overall, though, he was a pretty good teacher.
Frank was a great professor! I was sort of dreading taking accounting but he made it interesting and even enjoyable! He doesn't give cakewalk exams but he's not out to trick you either. He's really good at explaining the concepts and logic. Come to class and do the homework you'll be fine. Would definitely take from him again!
unethical. He is only willing to help if you suck up to him.
I really liked Frank. He is a stand up guy and real nice. His class was good because he taught you by doing problems similar to the ones that he assigned you, which helped me learn accounting much better.
Frank's class is not one to take if you are looking for an easy A. But he makes it very clear how to do well in his course. Overall I found him to be one of the best professors I've had. His teaching style is very clear and he was not boring at all. He genuinely cares about his students and their success. Take this class!
So hard. At least if you aren't hardcore into Accounting. But if you talk to him he will work with you and help you to try to get a good grade? but wow, this class killed me, such tough material.
Frank is awesome. You should not expect an easy A in this class, but his class was structured so well that you knew exactly what was required. And he is always willing to help anytime.
Frank takes pride in teaching at the Huntsman School of Business. His test's are not easy, but they are fair. You will need to study for them. Class and book is a must.
I love Frank. The way he teaches makes Accounting more enjoyable, it is not a breeze through class but if you listen and do the homework you will do great.
Frank is easily the best accounting professor at USU. His classes are difficult, but you will come out knowing the material if you put forth the effort. His teaching methods are superb.
Great teacher! Really explains the concepts well and gives plenty of examples in class on how to do things. His tests are problems just like the ones we do in class or on our homework, just changed up a bit. Very good teacher who sincerely cares about his students!
Frank is a super nice guy. He's not super entertaining, but he gives plenty of examples and as long as you keep up with the homework you will be able to do pretty well in the class.
Frank gives a reasonable amount of homework, and the tests reflect the material well. If you do the homework (and not just copy as he goes over it), you should be ok on the exams. I would say, however, I feel as though he gives preference to USU athletes. There's a point where you are too much of a fan. Doing the Scotsman in class? Waste of time.
Most effective professor i have ever had. If you can take Acct 2010, 2020, or 3110 from him, do it! He will teach you truckloads and make it seem easy. Very methodical and clear in his methods with no wasted "busy work." Great Professor.
Nice guy but his teaching style didnt work with me. He make you try to do something before he teaches it. Frustrating class.
One of the best professors in my USU life. He can change someone's life. Extremely helpful. He understands student's problems and always extends his helping hand. If there were 40% professor like him in college there would be less college drop out rate.
Just do the homework, as questions, and go and talk with him in his office BEFORE tests and you will do GREAT!
Tests are the killer. There are only 20-25 questions per test. If you miss 1 or two it takes a hit hard on your grade. Go to class. Pay attention. He tests on principles covered in class. Final Exam is a fill in the blank, not a scan-tron test. Class average was a 104/140 on the final. He is very organized and doesn't adjust the schedule.
Frank is the best accounting teacher at USU. teaches very well and wants to see you succeed. He is very understanding and willing to help students succeed.
I hate to leave a bad review because he is a nice guy. However, I just can't learn from him. The tests make up the vast majority of the grade and each question is worth tons of points. The first test requires you to memorize 17 formulas front and back and also when to use them. Needless to say, if accounting isn't your thing, you won't do well.
Frank is a very effective teacher. Accounting can be a very difficult class, however I think Frank gives you every opportunity to succeed, (if you go to class.) I wont take the next class without him!
Frank is great. He's always willing to help and will help you out if you let him know you're having trouble. He does tests every two chapters, and the tests are mostly conceptual, so it's easy to predict what types of things will end up on the test.
All we ever did in class was do problems out of the book. His explanations were not clear and he gave no substantial reason for what we were supposed to do just that was how it was done. Can see why people would like him for 2010 or 2020, but not a good upper-division teacher.
Frank is an awesome teacher. He is really clear and easy to understand. attending class is a must. If you're there everyday and keep up with the homework (which isn't that hard) you will do great in his class
Frank explains things very well and is fair in his testing. If you understand the homework and practice exams, you can do well on the tests. He is difficult, but helps you succeed.
Frank is an amazing teacher. He is passionate about accounting, and he makes it fun for the rest of us. he gives us lots of freebies if we work hard.
He's a good guy, not good teacher. he is fast pace and skips steps. really not that great of a teacher. take someone else if you can
If you do the homework and understand it you will do well on the test. The problem is the test are only 25 questions typically so if you just miss a few that is 4% a question. He is a great teacher in explaining but you will have to learn really learn the concept to succeed in the class
One of the best professors at USU. Cares about his students and them understanding. I struggled with Accounting but Frank took time to help me and make sure I passed. Can't say enough about how good this man is. Thanks Frank
There's no doubt in my mind that Frank cares about his students and their success. He was extremely willing to work with me through some health challenges I experienced throughout the semester. The class itself is an accounting course, enough said..
Frank is super nice and helpful. Go to his office if your struggling he is great. He expects you to read before class because he basically just does examples in class. read the book and doing the homework as you go is your best bet
Frank is one of the best professors that I have had. He is very funny and very willing to help you out if you go visit him. Straight-forward as long as you actually pay attention in class and do the homework problems. Really enjoyed this class!
I love Frank. I took ACCT 2010 and ACCT 2020 from him. His lectures are interesting, very clear, and they prepare you very well for the tests, although you still learn the information well. He is also fun. I'm not an accounting major but these two classes have been two of my favorites at USU. I thought he was a very competent teacher.
While I don't love accounting personally, Frank makes it as good as it could be. He's very helpful for anything you need.
Frank is the man. Had him for 2010 and 2020. Its a hard class but accounting is hard. What makes him different is hes extremely helpful and wants you to succeed. Very genuine and sincere. Be prepared to work hard and think hard to get a good grade but its worth it.
Instead of lecturing, he does practice problems in class which helps you learn a lot faster than just talking about a concept. I would say he is by far one of the best professors I've ever had.
Frank's class is very straightforward and he makes accounting make sense. His tests aren't very tough; just go over your notes and do the part B of the homework to prepare for them. Only read sections of the book that correspond to the concepts he covers in class. Nothing on the tests will ever surprise you. Frank is definitely worth taking from.
This class can be tough, but if you just freakin do what Frank says, you'll get an A no problem. He never deviates from his syllabus, and he'll never ask something on the test that wasn't covered in lecture. Just don't be lazy and you're gucci.
Best teacher I've had in my opinion. He wants you to succeed. He keeps everything simple and does a lot of practice questions. EVERYTHING on the tests, he goes over in class. If you see him during his office hours, he basically gives you the answers to tests without telling you! Incredible memory! Highly recommend taking 2010 and 2020 from him.
Frank is a great teacher. He covers the material very quickly, but he uses a lot of examples to really help you understand it. There is homework after every class, but his tests are exactly like the homework, so if you use all your resources to make sure you understand the homework you'll do fine in the class.
Frank is awesome. Most students don't like his lecturing style, but it really helped solidify all of the concepts for me. He helps you prepare for each exam.
Frank is great. He gives fair tests. If you go to class and write down the examples he does on the board and do the homework, you will do great on the test. All of the test material will be things you have seen before. Don't get behind with the homework either, staying on top of that will be beneficial.
I took this class from Frank because he had the best reviews out of the accounting professors, however he was NOT helpful. I worked hard in this class. I never skipped and attended the tutor lab twice a week and still struggled. He was rude multiple times when I went to his office for help and one time asked me straight up if I had ADD. Hard tests.
Maybe I am the odd man out but reading everyone else's reviews on this professor really confuses me. I HATED Frank's lecture style. It may work for some people but it is far from traditional. He'll dedicate about half of each class to you figuring out a concept he hasn't even taught you yet. He SPEEDS through everything else. Would not take again.
Evidently, people have very different ways of learning accounting. So one professor's style will work for some and not others. For me, Frank was incredible! I took him for both 2010 and 2020 and loved it. I had tried 2010 from a few other professors and felt hopeless. His structure worked perfectly for me, though. Highly recommend.
I took acct 2010 and really enjoyed the class. I had one of the highest scores in the class and felt I understood accounting fairly well. Apparently not, I felt totally lost in Franks class most the time, who goes way to fast and doesn't explain problems well, he just tells you what the answer is and moves on without explanation of how he got it.
Frank is the best accounting teacher. He is more than willing to help you to ensure that you understand the material. It is an accounting class which most people do not enjoy, but Frank makes it worth while. Even other teachers will talk about Frank, and everyone in the class says "I love Frank!" Just stay on top of the assigned questions.
Shuman is a great professor and just an all around good guy. He is very accessible and is great to help when you don't understand. His class is difficult though, tests are hard and he flies through material pretty quick during lectures.. but just pay attention and stay on top of the homework and you'll do well.
Frank goes through a lot of material fairly quickly, but if you pay attention and keep up on the homework you'll do fine. If you ever need any help, Frank's office hours are fairly open. He will go through and explain the problem step by step. He does give out handouts in class that you work out in class while he wanders and answers questions.
accounting is not my forte and he is a heavy tester. Be ready for exams
Frank is honestly one of the best professors I have had in my academic career. In my Accounting 2010 class, I barely scraped by with a passing grade. But in Frank's 2020 class, I not only got an excellent grade, but I came to understand accounting principles that I've never understood before. He's very caring! The tests are just like the homework
Frank is a solid teacher at helping you better understand concepts, but you better know what you're doing as he is extrmy test heavy. The good thing is the tests aren't too hard and mainly consist of homework problems and problems gone over in class.
Great teacher despite my dislike of accounting. Frank is an awesome guy and will work with you one on one anytime!
Frank is overall a really smart professor who knows his stuff. You will need to go to class, because he helps you understand which topics from the chapter are important, and makes them easy to understand. His tests are crazy insane. He is really good if you want to teach yourself and actually learn accounting. He will make you use your brain.
Frank was one of the best professors I've ever had! If you don't get something taught in class he will gladly go over it with you during his office hours. His class made accounting not so bad. Overall, an absolutely amazing guy.
Frank is nice but that's the only think I liked about his class. He FLIES through lectures and if you ask him a question during a lecture, he'll just say the same thing over again. Never checks for understanding. He has all his lectures memorized down to the numbers and so he just goes way too fast. I would never take this class from him again.
I use to hate accounting but after this class I am now majoring in accounting. Can be difficult but he lays out the class perfectly that if you do the homework seriously, you'll understand the material and the test will be a breeze. HW is not bad either. He does fly through lectures but at least goes through them very clear. Definitely take Frank.
Frank is such a great professor. Accounting is not a super fun class, but he makes it entertaining and teaches in a way that is understandable. There is homework but it really does help you learn the subject. He is a little "old school" and likes to give in class tests. However, he really helps you prepare for these tests and you know exactly when.
I was scared to take Acct 2020 because I had such a horrible experience in 2010, but I LOVED Frank's class! He's a great professor! This is a class you actually have to put in a lot of effort to get a good grade. Stay caught up on the homework and go to his office hours if you have questions and you'll do fine.
Be prepared to be confused if youre a procrastinator. If you stick to Franks schedule and do the HW when he tells you to, youll be fine. Dont, and youll pull 80s and below. Frank is a great teacher, but dont hesitate to ask for help if his method isnt clicking with you. Hes a good teacher, dont listen to the haters.
COVID-19 saved my life in this class by making it way easier than it was supposed to be. Frank tries really hard to be a great professor, but he's very old fashioned. His way of teaching doesn't work for a lot of people, and it's easy to get lost. Frank does care, but he isn't the best at explaining himself. You have to study hard for the tests.
Frank yelled at me in office hours for asking a question. He didn't let me finish my question, and yelled something like "just do it" while pounding his fist on his desk. I almost cried so I didn't say anything. It was so unsettling that a month later, the other student who was present brought it up to me and agreed it was unwarranted.
My class was half Zoom, half in person. Lectures were posted on Canvas, which was nice. Make sure you study for exams; there were 4 exams and 1 final exam, and homework doesn't count for much of your grade. Don't bother with the textbook, he posts everything on Canvas. Lectures are long and often drag on.
Frank is a little old fashioned (tests are on paper, he writes notes on the whiteboard) and your grade is determined almost entirely by tests. Lectures are tough to follow because he moves fast. Stay caught up in the class (reading/homework) and you'll do well on the tests. But if you test poorly/have test anxiety, I would steer clear of Frank.
Frank is a great professor. He is always available for office hours and doesn't make you feel stupid for asking a question. His tests are not bad but you have to study hard for them. Just study the handout he gives you for review and the homework. I wouldn't want to take this class from anyone else.
Frank is a good professor that wants to see his students succeed. The grade you receive is almost entirely based on exam scores. I would not recommend buying the textbook, as all needed notes and homework can be found on canvas. Tests require diligent study as most of the content needs to be mastered in order to get a solid grade.
Tests made up 85% of my final grade, so study well for those. You don't really need to get the textbook. Sometimes, you'd be fine to miss class since every class you just work through a worksheet that is posted on Canvas. So you can check ahead to see whether or not the material will be difficult.
He expects you to enter the class with the knowledge of the professor that taught your 2010 class. His lectures are incredibly boring, he shows no sympathy for those who struggle, refuses to give an online/zoom/covid option, and he grades too quickly to consider your answers. HE TAUGHT EXAM 1 MATERIAL A WEEK AFTER THE EXAM.
Didn't memorize the textbook? Fail the class. Don't understand his lecture? Fail the class. Asked a question? Condescending response. The man could not care less about you and your grade.
He says everything once- you dont catch it in class you miss it on the test- no additonal help offered- no TAs
Frank definitely knows his stuff. However his lectures are like listening to a recorded audio textbook. He never applies the material to real world situations and his material is all old worksheets that have been scanned and projected onto the screen.
Frank is very rude whenever you ask questions at any point. Interrupted me several times while trying to ask questions and didn't get the right answer. His lectures are nothing like the exams and he does not care about your test scores and takes it personally if you don't understand something
His class is the best structure I have ever witnessed. Everything that is on the test has been explained in detail in lectures and on the homework. The exams are FAIR. If you put in the work, you will get an A. There are similar problems to the homework, and in-class handout copy answers. Put in the work, and you will fall in love with the class.
I love Frank! I HATE ACCOUNTING! I have a super hard time learning this material but I met with Frank regularly and ended up passing the course. With any other professor I don't think I would have. Frank genuinely cares about his students. Get to know him personally and it will pay off. Take notes in lectures.
The hate on Frank is completely unwarranted. His tests are literally the homework assignments pretty much exactly (he will even tell you it's the exact same as the homework) I can guarantee the people who rate him poorly don't go to class and don't put in good effort. If you're a somewhat decent student and put in some effort this is an easy A.
Frank goes above and beyond to help you succeed. He teaches the material slowly so it's easy to understand. I hated 2010 but LOVE 2020 because of Frank. Your grade is mostly based on tests that are taken in class. Frank made me switch to an accounting major. He is a great teacher and a great person. This class is hard but worth it. Study a lot!
I'm not sure why Frank's teaching style works for me, but it just does. I almost failed 2010, but I did much better here thanks to him. He posts lectures on Canvas, which makes studying and learning much easier, which is great because tests are closed notes.
He's so bad that my test scores went up by 20% when I stopped attending the lectures and just used google to teach myself the principles. You don't get to see what problems you get wrong in this class, so improvement is impossible. I thought I was bad at accounting because of this class, but having a real teacher makes a difference.
Frank is amazing. Before every exam he gives a handout sheet to go over in class and 70-90% of the exam looks exactly like that handout sheet so study that like crazy. GO TO HIS OFFICE he will go over random hw and say this is important and that is the other 30-90% of the exam. Hw is super chill he gives you answers to similar problems, its a guide
This is honestly one of the worst professors I have ever had. If you want to actually have accounting explained to you in a way that makes sense DO NOT TAKE HIM. I'm surprised by how many good reviews he has honestly take any other accounting professor he is a horrible teacher.
Frank is Amazing, do the homework, in class assignments, especially the in class assignment right before the exam, if you did only that one you can get at least a 75% on the exam. The exams are literally made up of those things mentioned before. Go to his office hours and he will recommend things to study that are always on the exam.
Frank is an absolutely amazing professor and understands a lot of people only take his class as business acumen. He's super willing to give out extra credit and his office hours are so helpful. If I had taken the class from anyone else I would've failed. The one problem is that his tests are the majority of the grade but they are multiple choice.
Gives Hard but fair tests and is more than willing to assist you outside of class when necessary.
Frank cares so much about his students and wants them to succeed. It's a hard class but Frank gives you lots of opportunities to learn and pass the class. He is truly one of the best professors I've had in college.
Frank is the best professor I have had. His canvas is so organized and the course is laid out so cleary. His canvas has so many great resources for you to really understand the concepts. His office hours are great and he will explain everything to you. His test are almost exactly like the homework and handouts in class, so understand them well.
He sets clear expectations and is so willing to help - hes very accessible and adds extra office hours near assignment deadlines and exams. he also likes to get to know you even in massive classes. 10/10 Frank is the best
Very old fashioned, exams are all paper and he teaches with his whiteboard rather than an online presentation. I loved him as a person, patient, understanding and funny guy, just wish his teaching strategy was different. It was very hard to keep up, he moves very quickly and with a large class that's hard. The work isn't impossible, but it's hard.
Frank is the man! Fun guy who loves teaching and loves accounting. He is also super helpful outside of class or if you just want to chat. You will need to commit to coming to every single class, and doing a new homework assignment after every class as well. If you participate and ask for help when needed, you won't have a problem passing.
The GOAT of Accountancy. All Hail Frank.
Professor Shuman is old-school but effective. He moves quickly, so staying engaged is key. The workload is challenging but manageable with the right study strategies - using unstuck AI and attending office hours really helps.
Who is Frank? For the blind, He is the vision. For the hungry, He is the chef. For the thirsty, He is the water. If Frank thinks, I agree. If Frank speaks, I'm listening. If Frank has one fan, it is me. If Frank has no fans, I don't exist. ALL HAIL FRANK
Most amazing professor, cares about every student
Frank is the way. I've never had a professor care about students like Frank. Frank is the reason I joined IMA, and he was willing to give me a referral to a job. He is always available to help in his office hours and he is a great teacher. Frank is exactly what you want in a professor.
Frank genuinely cares about each of his students, and it shows. Lectures can be a bit rushed and he does all of the math in his head, so you may need to ask him to stop and clarify. Practice the HW and practice tests a lot before the exams. He is very accessible outside of class and wants you to succeed. Awesome person, awesome professor.
