Hard to understand, 93.4% for A, too much emphasis on which stocks he owns.
Very helpful with problems, good about allowing extra credit
very hard, and the notes he gives are terrible.
VERY FUNNY!
get the hang of his accent and your good to go
Sometimes unclear, asks stupid questions on the test
Ehhh, Have one too many Martini's and your system crashs.
funny guy. he tells you exactly what is on the exam. question 31 is beautiful answer B.

Very entertaining lectures, funny guy. I enjoyed the class.
I'm not sure what the curriculum is supposed to be for this course and neither is he. He tends to have the course based on anything he finds interesting and that may have a loose connection to technology .

Lectures and exams are completely irrelevant to what this class is supposed to teach. And he lotteries to give one student 70 extra points which will harm your grade in the end. He should write a magazine, not teach a class.
Hard class, but funny teacher. He gives 70 extra points to different students to help boost your grade after final grades are done.
He rambles, repeats. To do well in this class, write down what he tells you to write down and memorize the book because the exams are a "crap" shoot. On the upside, he can be funny and he gives tons of extra credit, if you whine!
Enjoyable lectures, funny guy. The class is interesting because he talks about the news and stuff that you need to know in general. MIS is a really broad and general course. I am sorry for those who don't appreciate his useful info.

Make sure you go to class! You can get lots of extra credit. Study your lecture notes for the test, it's mostly what he asks about.
Tests are very detailed but class is sometimes interesting and he gives lots of extra credit so its worth going.
Not too difficult if you go to class. Lots of acronyms on tests so know those. Extra credit is possible if you go to class, too.
Knows a lot about making money, because thats all he talks about. Basically rambles on about new items on the market and "name of game" ideas or products. Tests are random questions from notes or book...so just study all.
He can be hard to understand at times, but he's not too bad. As long as you go to class and take notes, you should do fine. Most of the exams covers materials from his notes, and a little from the book.

I liked him a lot
Easy Ex Cr
He is hard to understand sometimes, but his jokes are funny if you pay attention. "Let's go ladies and gentlemen!"
All I can say is "Coupla point for dat one"
the tests suck, theyre over such minute details, and he talks about such random stuff in class (do we REALLY need to get a daily update on how your google stock is performing?) The only reason to go to class is the extra credit
Most of the time, talks about random stuffs. Wants to make money off students by giving extra credits that can benefit himself. Like pick good domain names so he can buy it! Or download software and give it to him for EC. Test are confusing!!!
like everyone else says...he talks about random things, fun class, he enjoys FAC! but the tests do suck
worst professor I've ever had doesn't know how to teach Gives points based on a lottery with a powerball being worth 140 points which makes a mockery of the educational system 90 percent of what he says if not flat out wrong it's outdated not in touch with the real world.
Just ask about extra credit and you will do fine. I got 25/56 on my final, but with extra credit I received a B+.
Fred is a very smart man. If you listen to him you may make a little money. He gave our class a stock tip last fall, the company was called Google, maybe you have heard of it. This guy is brilliant and deserves the money he makes here at ISU. Lecture was always fun and he gives lots of EC.
All I can say is fred is one of kind. His tests blow he asks some dumb questions. But if you go to calss and get the ex points then your ok. But you have to read the book. and foolow his stock tips they will make u money.
It is very hard to understand him and he will ramble on about things that make no sense at all. Also he tests over things that you may never have learned in class that are also not in the book.
You like the google? I like the google, very fine company. You want ticket? I try and help you with ticket. I need correct information on ticket or my system cant help you.
Wow, an interesting guy. Hard to understand at times. He offers lots of extra credit, and also random stock tips. His tests are hard, he asks some random and difficult questions that youve never heard the answer to or only maybe once in lecture. He lika da Google.
We take da data, we process da data, get dat data to generate some meaningful information. Good professor, does the job for fun. True he is difficult to understand sometimes but an overall effective lecturer.
Told me i couldnt make up an exam for my grandfather's funeral until i emailed the chair of the MIS department. That made him change his mind.
Fred is defenatly one of a kid, prolly the best teacher I've had at ISU. His tests are hard, but if you read the book and goto lecture they are word for word from the book or lecture. So you gotta pay attention, plus you can do unlimited extra credit.. So no reason to fail his class. :)
Class was good, if you want to make some money then listen to what he has to say. I made $22,000 on Google and I owe it all to him. I paid all of my student loans off and am doing well. Take his class and go to FAC with him sometime.
This class is f*ing hard unless you have previous MIS experience. The professor makes the tests impossible to get a good grade on if you are just a typical student with no MIS experience. He also favors the people who know about MIS. Too bad he's the only prof for this class. We need a new prof!!
this class wasn't that tough, at least if you went to class, but i suppose it helped because i had every test but one(but i wasn't one of those schlubs that never goes to class, i believe i only missed one or two classes)
took it back in 1999, bet teacher i've ever had. he's hilarious, and if you want -- "you caaaan have martini with him at cy's rooooost". listen to his stock tips -- the man is a genius!
Choobineh is really hard to understand. What is up on the slides and what he is talking about never match so its hard to know which is important. Questions on test can be found on book's website, but only about 1/2 of multiple choice. Screws you over on test because each question is work like 7 points. Think it will be impossible to pass. UGH
probably one of the hardest to understand professors ive ever had. He has insane tests, which he tries his best to make as hard as possible. There should be another choice of professors for this class.
Go to class read the slides, do the extra credit you WILL get a good grade. He is a nut really enjoyed his class
do extra credit, go to class, because the rest is uncertain, and the tests ******* ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He makes class fun. He does a lottery if asked, and gives you tips for stocks.
Go to class, do the extra credit, write down the notes he tells you to in class and you will do just fine. Somewhat difficult to understand but does not affect how you should do in the class. Very nice guy, highly recommended, keeps the class fun.
Go to class, take the notes he points out, read the book, and you will walk away from this course with a good grade. Pay attention to his stock tips because he can make you a rich person.
An excellent teacher, able to make anything interesting.
This guy is really fun and you probably won't learn a whole lot, but make your self read the text because you can do really well in this class with how he curves tests and does lottery.(which is extra credit) Go to FAC with him some time. This guy is a blast
this guy is awesome, funny, the test are tough though but he gives lots of extra credit and stuff
Very easy, EC all the time. Test are little hard. Can be funny sometimes. Thank God for da Google. Very good if you show up to classe. I nicknamed him "chernobyl" becuase he's a blast!
Gives tons of extra credit which makes up for the difficult tests. Didn't learn a whole lot, but show up to class and read the book. Entertaining guy, really cares about students
Class wasn't bad at all. Tests are difficult bc they are over several lengthy chapters,so there is a lot to study and then only 36 Qs on each test (you end up studying stuff you don't need to study simply bc you never know what'll be on the test). The Qs themselves are straightforward. Curve wasn't huge, but go to class and it's an easy B w/ the EC.
He gave you useful hints for real life for instance with stocks. He basically tells you what is on the tests if you attend class and take good notes.
this guy was awesome! he is really smart and drove a taxi in new york for summer work, yeah. his tests can be confusing but somewhat easy, get him to do the lottery and its in the bag.
Better buy the book, 80% of test material is from it. Also Anything, ANYTHING talked about in class can show up on a test. Even obscure little things, like one one test he wanted to know the Name of a Canadian Energy company talked about in a film where the talked about the company for like 30 seconds. 30 Seconds in an hour long film. Be Perpared!
Read the text book and get an A. He grades on a huge curve so most of the class passes. Lectures are boring but you need to go because information given not found in text will be on test. Very funny!!
Really funny guy. He offers extra credit all the time, so be sure to attend class so you can get "those digits" (in some cases that means no FAC!). Has a lot of entertaining stories to tell as well as many memorable quotes. I'd take his class again.
A hilarious teacher, lots of fun to listen to in lectures. Be prepared for ANYTHING mentioned in lecture to be on the tests. Also make sure to really read the book and you can ace the class with minimal effort.
Everyone seems to like him because he's a "character" or something, but frankly, he's a horrible teacher. Lectures are disorganized and rambling and the material itself is this wierd abstract crap that is completely non-applicable to real life. I tried, but I don't think I actually learned a damn thing all semester.
I think he makes class interesting and fun. He calls the class "fun 330". He plays music before & after every class. The guy knows what he's talking about so take good notes. I wouldn't buy the book, just use the book's website that he gives you in class.
He goes over a lot of information quickly and it all will appear on his test. His test questions come from everywhere and you will have no idea what to study except everything.
Choobineh is endearing with a lot of character, but his teaching is haphazard at best. He doesn't have much structure to the material and sounds like he'd rather be a Finance/Investment prof. Because the class is just based on exams (despite lectures, are mostly out of the book), you never apply the knowledge, making it useless. Funny guy.
I hated this class with a passion. I only went to lecture because he is a funny guy. He has some great stories, and knows almost everything about Da Google. He sucks as a professor, but the only one who teaches 330 and does so for free. Funny, but sucks
Goes on and on about stuff not related to class. Constantly trying to sell "Da Google" stock. No structure to class, just goes off on whatever crosses his mind at that time. Suppose to be a class about computers in business, yet he is still using overheads from 1990s. Upgrade to powerpoints!
Go to class, pay attention you'll do fine
The tests seem like random questions thrown together out of nowhere. Go to class to get his extra credit and your pretty much guaranteed a B. For the tests study the practice ones he posts and many questions are directly from that, the rest are easy if your a good guesser.
Lecture can be boring. Powerpoint quizzes are how you pass the tests. Do all the extra credit--you'll need it!
He presents current topics in the class he teaches
He has interesting stories to tell. Class time is mostly about his personal investments and favorite websites. Not very related to MIS. Go to class--he gives you a bunch of extra credit and hints of weird facts on the test you'll never be able to guess.
zzzzzzz. Pretty boring and I can't say that I learned much. He's a really nice guy. It's funny to hear about "The Google" all the time.
Class is all trivia. Didn't learn anything. Fun guy to listen to but don't expect much from the class. Do the extra credit and you'll be fine.
He's not a bad guy to listen to, but most of the information in class isn't relevant to the tests. Make sure to do the extra credit and be in class for the lottery and it will definitely help you. Study the book slides and read the book for tests and you'll do okay.
This class sucked. Fred is an extremely boring teacher and his lectures are meaningless to what MIS actually is. The tests were stupid and mainly over random things he said in class. This class was mandatory for my major, if you have a choice I would recommend avoiding the class. Also, he can't control the volume of his voice.
Attend class and he gives a lot of extra credit, HOWEVER, he has a very sketchy extra credit grading system that you he likes to call the loterry. You think you're getting a lot of points, when in reality it will only add up to 3. Horrible tests, very random. read the book. If you can ask people in the class before you for answers it will help.
"BUY THE BEAUTIFUL CABBAGE PATCH, BRING TO CLASS FOR EXTRA CREDIT!!"
Guy is a genius, however he is hard to follow. Lack of structure in the lessons. Go to class and get points for extra credit and you will pass. Sit up front so he sees you every day, he'll give you points just for seeing you.
great professor... do NOT buy the book, i repeat... do NOT buy the book. Just go to class and he'll tell you whats going to be on the test. One more thing, review his online practice quizzes before exams... easy b with extra credit.. GO TO CLASS, DO NOT BUY BYE THE BOOK
I think that you should actually go over the material that is going to covered on the test, and not random stuff that doesn't relate to the class. You should get out of teaching!
Complete waste of an hour and if you aren't listening to his music he will turn it up so you do.Material taught in class is about websites not MIS. ointless.
At first I honestly thought I would fail this course & I'm normally a A or A- student. My 4 tests were D, C, B, and D although I paid attention in class & read the book. Since I came to class every day, I got the jackpot extra credit & also some additional random extra credit he offered. I honestly don't know how I got an A- tho! Just keep trying!
Good, not great
talks about unrelated topics. Google is the one thing he talks about all the time. ISU should change MIS 330 to GOOGLE 330. waste of time, testes are jokes, half of the stuff are not even related to or in the book. word of advice take the class and get over with it.
Fred is a very interesting man, although I cannot say the same for his notes. I didn't learn much in this class, but enjoyed Fred's random lectures. Pay attention to his stock announcements to make money! Go to class to get the tickets. Unfortunately, Fred's passion for MIS didn't transfer to me.
Class was fairly interesting if you plan to continue with mis. He wants you to do well, basically show up do the extra stuff and i garantee u an A or B.
Go to class for the tickets- they help! Also, memorize every chart you see in the textbook- his test questions are VERY detail oriented and may be over things we never discussed in class!
no one could understand him, his tests are all out of the subject, he picks the smaaaall stuff and leaves the important big stuff, and all his stuff are random. bottom line, he sux.
Is one of these teachers that you wish if you never had in your life. his lectures are soo unrecognized and he stick with slides form textbook, and some random information that has nothing to do with Management Information System. I'm sure that in his class you will learn how to fill the bubble sheets for the exam!!yeah that all you will get
One of my favorite professors. Tells awesome stories and makes class interesting. Tests are compete memorization, just read the book and memorize the online review slides. Do all the extra credit and you will "enhance your portfolio and have quide a beet fun over dere" One of the few classes i looked forward to every day
He is a nice guy, but not a very good teacher. His lectures are very unorganized and the only way to pass the class with a good grade(unless you memorize every word he says and the whole book) is to do all the extra credit.
Uses outdated information and videos. Has a strong accent. Tests are very random and hard. Do the extra credit. Talks about "De Google" every chance he can.
This professor is ridiculous, all he wants to talk about in class is Google and (I kid you not) his affinity for Cabbage Patch dolls. He offers "lottery tickets" which are a way for him to take attendance. His tests are over irrelevant material like Google stock information. He doesn't speak clear English and only shows slides for 2 seconds.
He isnt a bad teacher, have to go to class if you want a good grade. Do the extra credit it helps a ton. As long as you do average on the tests and also do the extra credit you will get an A. He can be kinda funny sometimes too.
Professor Choobineh is awesome-he will help you get a good grade if you go to class. He loves "DA GOOGLE" & will talk about it all the time! I should have gotten a B because the material is tough & there is a lot to know but @ the end Fred bumped mine up to an A since I did all of the extra credit & was there for most lectures. GO TO THIS CLASS!
He's the man!
His classes are useless. His questions on exam are ridiculous. Textbook is always be your best friend, u could probably not going any of his class and do all the reading yourselves( i mean every single part). He gives lottery and extra credit. So if u decides to follow him, focus on these two part and do your reading( go every class)
Hard tests, but show up to class for the lottery tickets and do all the extra credit and you'll for sure pass!
Class was extremely unorganized. He is very mean to students who want to talk to him. Many weird questions on the test. Why do I have to know what year DA GOOGLE was founded? Go to every class for lotteries. And do all extra credits. This is just too weird!!!
He's a great PERSON. Really funny and likes to have a good time, but he is not a good professor. Hard to understand, tests are HARD. There are 4 and that's what makes up your grade. You really have to read the book because his questions are very detailed. A plus: he gives out A LOT of extra credit opportunities. Take advantage of them! No final.
Hard to understand. Very weird grading system...there is just four test worth 250 pnts. (36 mult choice questions). Test are fairly challenging, I have never gotten below a B- in any course in three years here I got a C+ in this one. Just read the book, taking notes pointless, but do go to class for extra credit.
He is a funny guy, and he offers tons of extra credit. I failed 3 out of 4 tests and still got a C+ he offer lots of extra credit and curves it a ton. The test are really hard but if you study the slides and do decent on them you will do fine in this class with all of the extra credit and curve. You don't need the textbook either, I bought it but never used it.
amazing he is the funniest guy ever! love all the extra credit haha
He is not hard. The only way he will fail you is if you dont attend and are doing poorly. He is easy and this class is a cinch
Really bad.
Awesome prof., funny guy and he gives out lots of freebies. Go to class everyday (be in the system, as he would say) and you will pass! Tests can be hard but the tons of extra credit makes up for it, this was my favorite class this semester, regardless of my icky schedule. Da Google!!!:)
I averaged a B- on the Exams, but I came to class and got an A b/c of the extra credit he gives. Essentials to Acing this class: even though going to this class is pointless, he offers extra. Read your book & pay attention to the case studies in it. Bring your laptop because he talks fast, and you'll need something to do keep you busy.
This class had me worried at first since I basically failed the first test. Be sure to take advantage of every extra credit he offers and go to class. He sometimes gives you extra points or an answer to a test question if you are in class that day. He can be interesting when he's talking about something other than MIS.
A very good teacher! He is extremely smart and trys to make MIS as fun as it can be, after all it is MIS! Go to class, get extra credit and you will do well.
Fred is awesome! His class is always entertaining. He offers so much extra credit so it is easy to boost your grade. He also offers a class curve and individual curve which helps even more. You must read the book, take notes, and go to class to do well. Great guy. Would reccomend taking this class with him.
Extremely intelligent professor. He tries to make this class as enjoyable as possible. Attendance not mandatory, but show up every day because EC is given out constantly and you want to be "part of the system" for the lottery! Accent can be difficult to understand, but good prof overall!
Good professor, but tests are difficult.
Fred has been around for a loonngg time now and is on his way out. He is good about making things fun and entertaining at times since this is a required class. Many extra credit opportunities. Tests are hard and scores often disappointing but the curve and extra credit will make up for it. I had a mid-C and got an A with extra credit and the curve
Choobineh has a great, fun personality! GO TO CLASS, he gives extra credit at least twice a week! Tests are difficult, but if you go to class he gives you around 8-10 questions that will be on the exam. He is very helpful outside of the classroom!
Amazing professor. He truly cares about the class he teaches and the students he teaches. Go to every class and do the extra credit and he will reward you for that at the end of the semester. i averaged a B on all the exams, which were mostly based off his lectures and the slides he provides for you on his website. Ended up getting an A-.
He's a funny guy. Gives out a lot of extra credit-do as much as possible. I recommend attending class, he collects "data" randomly and gives extra credit for it. Take notes. He gives a lots of test questions in notes. Best way to study-make notecards. Overall not too bad of a class/teacher.
Fred Choobineh is very nice person. He loves to help his students and provide them with all tools that help them to pass his class. I enjoyed his class. For all it is an easy "A".
He is very knowledgeable about MIS, but test are challenging. If you show up to class you will have no problem with getting a C. He does offer extra credit, but you have to come up with it yourself.
Long lectures, only talked about google the entire time and how much money he made buying and selling random things...
Fred gave us take home parts for the first two exams and gave us a number of questions word for word for the final. Lectures are quite long, but go to class, stay focused, and participate in class, your "portfolio" will be helpful when final grades are calculated. He does really like Google. One note, I took this over the summer for 4 weeks.
Goes over material very quickly and is sometimes difficult to understand. He uses his own website for posting notes and grades which makes understanding your grades and getting notes far more difficult than it needs to be. Overall a pretty easy class, Choobineh just makes it harder than it has to be.
Didn't respond to any of my emails. He moves through important slides quickly and is at times difficult to understand. Fred is a super smart guy and knows a lot about real world problems but when it comes to the topics in class he moves too quickly.
He is very into his content and loves what he does, but he spends a ton of time talking about random things that aren't in the lecture notes or slides that he posts online. And, unfortunately, the majority of the tests are on this content. So go to class, take good notes, and do the homeworks and you should be fine.
You need to go to class and take notes if you want to get an A. He won't post notes online. You also will need the book to read. I was able to find a free pdf of it online. He spends about 40% of class bragging about his stocks. You should go though because he gives random quizzes. Do his extra credit.
This man should not be employed by the university. 90% of what you cover in class is not on the exam. Insanely hard tests becasue you literally have no idea what is going to be on them and there is really no way to study them. Brags about how he is rich. Doesn't use blackboard but does use his own websites that are impossible to use basically.
I enjoyed Fred not knowing what to expect in an MIS class. Tests are tough but he gives you extra credit to make up for it and I heard the course is curved at the end if you participate. He is very insightful when it comes to stocks and market portfolio (Doesn't have to do much with the class, but still interesting). Overall, I'd take him again.
He is hard to understand and goes through slides very quickly. Should bring a laptop to class otherwise it will be impossible to take notes in class. He posts the school lectures on his website. DOES NOT USE BLACKBOARD. Never passes back old exams so you have no clue where your at in the class. Nice guy and is pretty funny. Gives out a lot of EC.
He gives a ton of in class attendance points so you CAN'T skip class. For his exams he is very specific, you must be able to take amazing notes or else you will miss information that he will test on. He does give an unlimited amount of extra credit if you ask him for it which is nice.
Fred made this class MUCH harder than it needed to be. He didn't use blackboard and always talked about his personal stuff (such as where he invested). He didn't do a good job of preparing for what were on his extremely difficult exams. I had to study for HOURS more than I should have to scrape by with a B. Over half of my class dropped by midterms
Does not make material interesting or fun for students. Goes too fast through lectures with irrelevant information.
Fred has fun lectures but he makes it as hard to study for tests as he can. Tests are over roughly 120 pages + lectures, which would be fine if he stuck to main ideas or gave study guides, but he does neither. There is also no class schedule, and he does not reply to emails. He also only has his PP slides up for a week.
Tests are way harder than they should be. No regularly scheduled homework, just random assignments for random point amounts that he assigns. Fairly heavy accent and somewhat hard to understand. Very set in his ways and hates cell phones.
Strange class. I had a really tough time with the tests. You really have to pay attention in class and copy all the notes and everything he says to do well on the exams. Exams are very hard. You will probably need to do extra credit to pass.
The class is on management information systems yet all he talks about is stocks and how rich he is. A lot of his powerpoint slides have the same info on them as the last slide and he just repeats what he says. The only reason he is still employed is that he gives his paycheck back to the university. Dumb lectures and hard tests
Prof Choobineh is a nice teacher, but his grading scale and exams make the course difficult. He does offer lots of extra credit to make up for the difficult exams and quizzes. Going to class is critical as he offers a lot of the extra credit only to those who show up.
Refers to himself as the google man. Loves talking about stocks and other generally unrelated topics. Unreasonably specific test questions. Lots of extra credit.
Attend the class. Do Extra Credits oppt which is unlimited. Take notes. Easy A class. One of the best professors I had so far.
Class lectures are not very helpful, but you have to go to pass. Read the textbook. Exams are over very odd information, and overall class is near useless.
Can't understand him. Tests are near impossible and are on random things. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH FRED!!!
Everyone is scared of taking MIS with Fred, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The tests are not too hard if you take notes in class. Everything is pretty straight forward, even for me and I don't know anything about computers. Don't be scared to take this class with Fred, I have loved it!
Choobineh is such a gem. His lectures can be a bit boring, and the class material is dry but he means really well and cares for his students. He enjoys getting to know students on a personal level and offers lots of extra credit to ensure you'll pass. He's been teaching at Iowa State for 30+ years and does it because he enjoys it.
Fred talks a lot, but is actually fairly interesting to listen to. He talks about current things related to technology. If you take notes from his lectures and review them before the exam, you will do above average and get a fine grade. Not too much homework, but class is largely graded on exam scores so it is important to pay attention and study.
Nice guy and means well, however his exams and many quizzes are extremely difficult and have things on it that he might have mentioned in lecture once. I am a strait A student and seriously struggling in this class!
Fred was one of the worst professors I have had at ISU thus far. Luckily next year is his last year. If you want to learn anything about MIS, DO NOT TAKE WITH HIM.
I was fortunate enough to have Fred during his last semester teaching. He gave us the easiest quizzes, made class enjoyable and offered us lots of extra credit to make sure we all passed. He genuinely cares for his students and is a really nice man!
He's a good lecturer, but he does not provide enough feedback or solutions to his practice problems. There is no homework, only exams and quizzes. This makes the class more stressful than it should be.
