Very boring, lack of pictures/figures made him hard to follow.
funny, makes things interesting, not boring at all, tells decent jokes. fairly easy, but tests are fairly hard
Needs to change his shirt every now and then...yelled at my friends and I for having highlighter fights...he's boring....DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS....
He does his best given the material he had to work with. His tests are aren't too hard if you stay awake to listen...note "if".
Very good prof. Fair exams. Tests only on what he goes over in class. Funny. Uses examples from things like Wayne's World. Pretty easy course, good science option.
He's so boring and you have to go to every class because he makes you copy overheads of notes for the entire class. The exam are fairly easy if you like to memorize as it is word for word what his overheads said. He's however very nice and helpful.

Does a good job with the dry material he has to teach us. Fair exams. He'll also lay the smack down if you make noise in his class...good entertainment. Highly recommended...if you are unfortunate enough to have to take eas.
easy for an eng'g class. prof is a dick though. kicked me out for "distracting body language" good prof...but a real jerk.

Good prof I think, although I went to class less than 5 times.
Exams are easy if you study. Very intelligent man, expect he speaks a mile a minute. He needs to slow down ... besides that the pink hair at the end of term was wicked solid.
He's a bit dry. He talks nonstop for an hour and a half.
Great proff, dry material but he does his best to entertain you through the class. Luckily he gave you a 5 minute break after 45minutes so you could wake up. Tests were fair and he was very respectful to students, I enjoyed that he didn't allow students to talk. Excellent.
He is a bit odd...half-robot, half-military commander. If you take this class be prepared to be whipped into "no talking". He just reads the notes from the course pack, so there is no need to even attend class.
Someone please let this man do research. Teaching is obviously not his passion. No need to attend, it's all in the coursepack, and you can read them on your own at ~10min/lecture, and if there is a critter you don't know, google it - he uses few pictures anyway.
Very dry but hilarious in his own way. Doesn't use much in the way of pictures/animations etc which was unfortunate. His exams were pretty easy if you studied even a bit. I think everyone respected him and he respected us as well. I would definitely look forward to another class taught by him.
Being a Bus student I didn't know what to expect but wow, good class. First class where I didn't skip once ,but that's cause I wanted to show up. True everything is in the course pack, but he emphasizes what you need to know. You're spoon fed in the class so with some effort it'll be easy for ya!
He's got an extremely dry sense of humour and he's pretty cool in a nerdy & geeky sort of way. All the info is in the coursepack which he reads through at an incredible pace. Exams are easy if you know how to memorize. He does explain things pretty well. Overall, it's not going to be the best class of your university career, but it's worth taking.
Now, this guy is really boring. HOW can you have a course pack with SO much info in it and no pictures or anything interesting whatsoever? It becomes extremely difficult to study that crap. He needs to revise his course notes to help avoid people from falling asleep (both in class, and while studying for it!!)
Rocks are just plane boring, but Dr. Clark makes it as interesting as possible. I love that he actually kicks people out of class for talking. Notes are very good and all that is needed for the exams. I would not buy a text for this class.
This guy is incredible, makes me want to go into geology than engineering. Serious kids, he's the #@IT! for Rocks for Jocks.
He was a good prof who taught his class like a prison. Now I don't mind a prof kicking out a student for being obnoxious all class, but to waste 5 minutes (10%) of a class listening to him lecture a student who whispered something into there neighbours ear is a huge waste of my time and money. Although the silence does make it easier to sleep.
WOW!! Wicked prof!! I loved the fact that he kept the room silent, and that he made the most reasonable exams ever. He covered everything really well and has a fun sense of humor. Is there anything this man doesn't know?? Textbook and rock almanac were useless, though.
Hilarious! He's an awesome professor. This class is really hard, but he makes it so interesting that you don't notice just how much you've covered until you have to study for it. He cares about his material and his students, and presents the information well. no text, and the notes are in the coursepack. The tests are brutally hard, full of detail
Has a good sense of humor but isn't that funny. There is a lot of info to know, but not too bad if your good at memorizing. Knowing details is very important, esp. extinction stuff for the final. Tests aren't very long and all you need is a $10 coursepack. One bad thing about the coursepack is that there is blank spaces so if you skip you miss alot.
I went into the class thinking it was going to be really interesting. All it was, was this prof rambling on for an hour and a half reading from the notes. in addition to that his exams were extremely hard. i don't recommend this class to an arts student but the people in sciences didn't seem to have a problem with it.
very good prof. It was his first year teaching 233 and he was the best prof i had. explained the content of the course very well, though some of it is difficult to grasp. creates a great learning environment. highly recommended.
Oh Freddie, what did we do to deserve you? How did you make dinosaurs uninteresting? Not so good, folks, not so good. Far too much was expected for a 200 level course taken primarily by those not in EAS. If you think this is a GPA booster, think again.
Interesting course, found the material nice and easy to understand. However, the prof .... wow .. gimme a sec ----- HORRIBLE!!!!! I cannot say enough bad things about him. Very unfair professor. Avoid this class if possible, esp if Dr.Clark is teaching it.
Sweet Prof. Kept te class quiet, which was really good. Really funny guy as well. Made the class interesting and tried to make you understand the material.
Good sense of humour. Material can be dry, but he keeps the class going at a decent pace so it's never overly boring. Do not talk in his class and he'll be more than fair. The labs for the class really suck, however. That is unless you love identifying rocks and drawing topographic profiles.
He can be a bit dry and monotone but has a wicked sense of humor (but he'll comment with a straight face so you have to stay awake to catch it!) Very clear and to the point. His exams are easy to study for and while I would never call him easy, he's very fair. If you like organized notes-take your classes with him!
Did not enjoy his lectures, exams were pretty random. Too much info for a 3 week course.
Prof was incredibly monotone, and kinda dry. However he was funny in his own way, and he was very clear in explaining the material, and kept a very organized schedule and had very organized notes. Class was easy if you study his notes and pay attention in class, labs are the worst thing in the world. He hates talking, but if u keep quite very fair
Notes were clear, what he actually says during class did not seem to show up on exams. All material was from the notes. Don't even drop your pen during class or he'll ask you if you have a problem
EASY don't need to go to class, BUT the labs are really difficult unless you have an easy TA. Class is useless, just gets notes from someone at end of semester.
Great down to earth prof who was cool to talk to out of class. Knew his stuff, but holy crap, the notes were terrible. Boring, dry, and no pictures in a class about dinosaurs = death. Class is pure memorization and easy if you're good at it.
The class was pretty hard and he did a good job in teaching it. One thing I didn't like was how fast he went. We were learning some pretty complex stuff and he would already have parts of it done so you couldn't always keep up or follow what he was doing.
Great prof and he teaches an interesting class. Gives notes ahead of time online, then leaves some words blank for you to fill in over the lectures. Motivates you to come to class, but makes it easy to have all notes at the same time. Makes time to give extra help when needed. I would take another class with him again for sure.
Funny prof... not the greatest voice in the world, but his lil jokes he throws in make it worth listening. Just don't talk to other people in the class and you'll be fine... labs are a bit tricky though.
decent prof overall, though I found his intolorence to anybody speaking at all in his class made me feel like I was in high school. Pros: his notes are awesome, and since he tests only from them it's easy to get a good mark. Cons: monotone lecturer, even his jokes sounded rehearsed as if he says the same exact thing evertime he teachs the class.
He is a major dial-tone, but he has excellent notes that are fill in the blanks. His dry humor brings a little light to the boring material. Attendance is mandatory if you don?t want to buy the text. Tests are very easy m/c that are straight out of the notes. (2 midterms and a final, all m/c)
Have to say I loved this calss, although I missed quite a few. Great notes, and great lectures if you prefer taking written notes. Yes, he's monotnonous, but his dry sense of humour and pop culture references from decades past keep the class flowing. Approachable and most of all fair. Textbook utilized mostly for lab, which is harder than 100.
arrogant, no tolerance
His writing style is very confusing, which makes the lecture notes confusing.
Ugh so terrible! Very hard exams, so much boring material. Has fill in the blank lecture notes so attendance is mandatory. Don't buy the textbook you don't need it at all. Skip this profs classes!
Great Guy! You for sure need to work your butt off....text book is useless....but of you work you will do well...Really approachable guy 2....
Bad pro ever.... talks really fast which nobody could understand clearly......
hardest course ever for civil. He's speaking too fast to understand. The notes suck. his printing notes leave some blanks for you to fill in, but also totally handwriting notes.
Terrible lecture+notes; Goes extremely fast on follow along exercises and explanations. Helpful on office hours. Was a generous marker, considering his Lab midterm was extremely difficult. He Would joke around about the 48% class average on it. he doesn't curve the class. the TAs, labs, and textbook are your best help at learning the material.
Fred Clark is awesome. Yes, he speaks very quickly and with a monotone cadence. This is only so that he can impart more knowledge to you, something for which you should be thankful. It's worth going to class just to watch him yell at talkers and people with cell phones.
All you do is go to class and fill in the stupid blanks. Review them and your going to gret a B or B+. The lab is funny because everybody is working to together since they have no idea how to figure it out.
I feel sorry for ESL students as Clark speaks fast and it's sometimes hard to keep up. Same old fill in the blank notes. You end up needing to refer to different texts if you want visual diagrams. Is extremely helpful in office hours, but in lecture he will speed race through the material. Don't talk or text in class; he will call you out. Avoid!
This is the third time I've had him for and it amazes me every time how much of an a** this guy is. It's almost impossible to pay attention to in class due to his speed and incredibly boring tone of voice. On top of that, his tests are extremely difficult as it's difficult to decide what to focus on due to the enormous amount of notes.
DROP HIS CLASS! He will destroy your GPA. Has terrible fill in the blank notes so must attend every class. He also doesn't curve his classes because he "doesn't feel that many people deserve A's" His tests are impossibly difficult because you don't know what to study and he marks them very hard. I beg you save yourself, get out now!!!
Terrible proff. Talks too fast during lectures and quite hard to understand. His notes are terrible as well, like everyone mentioned, its all fill in the blanks. All the things that i learned in his class was from the textbook. His exams are fair though, not that hard but not easy either. The lab for this course is a killer.
Terrible Prof! Notes are very confusing, and all fill in the blanks. Midterm was very hard and class ave was a fail which he refused to take any responsibility for. Very monotone, rude and pompous! GET OUT! GPA ruiner!
Gives you a ton of notes, with a lot of useless information. All you need to do, to do well in his class is read through his notes and condense them which is not hard to do. He may explain an entire concept in 5 sentences because he uses so many extra words that are relevant, and these 5 sentences can usually be summed up into 4 words
Interesting course, but really dislike the fill in the blank notes. Because of this it was really hard to figure out what you have to study for the exams. SA was marked hard. Hates people who talk during class, so get it all out before class or during the break.
Anyone who complains about him having a hard class needs to learn how to be a good student... 50% of the class did not show up to lectures regularly.. no wonder they did bad. His notes are simple to follow and easy to study from. He even gave 10% extra for every lab if you gave a fun fact = AWESOMEEEE!! Straight forward prof! Yay!
I cant say I like him at all, he would go off track so fast. Every 20 minutes you would hear '...but thats not in the scope of this course.' Just so its clear; If attendance is lacking then, lectures suck... end of story. Make a friend in his classes!
Strict and if he doesn't like your class, he will make the exam harder.
Terrible prof. Class average always around 50 on exams. Exams do not indicate whether you know the material or not, only indicates if you pay attention to useless details that he throws into his notes. His notes are terrible and give you extra info that you dont need and you dont know what to study out of them because of this.
He does not like you texting in class. His style of lecture is fill in the blanks but he's changing it for the upcoming semester. The one thing that bugged me about his tests is that he would want you to remember specific numbers. ex. like how deep is the Mariana's trench? He'd give you numbers that have the same numbers, like is it 750 or 75000.
He was a horrible prof. Very dry. Very rude and stern. Read straight from these long word-processor notes that had blanks in them he expected you to fill in. You have to scramble through his intense monotone novel-like notes and filter out what MIGHT be important. You have to memorize countless dates and names, ancestor and descendents... Horrible.
This class is NOT interesting because of his approach to it. Avoid it at all costs unless you love creating your own timetable over millions of years, with what "might have" led to what. He yells at you if you look at your phone or ask someone for a pencil. His exams are stupidly hard. He tested on things he said he wouldn't. Stay away
Stern, but EXCELLENT. Most people complain because you actually have to READ your notes and understand them prior to writing an exam, but it's quite simple to get a 80+ if you skim through his notes every one or two days. Actually, I think its suffice to say that he will prepare you for university in a way most professors can't. So, STUDY.
An awesome teacher! His exams are half short-answer and half multiple choice, and if you can get a hang of his midterms than you'll be prepared for just about any class out there. Remember to study! (You can tell who didn't, based on the people that gave him a bad review -- you can't BS the exam by studying only the night before. Sorry, guys.)
Stern but fair. Did not baby you but set you on the right path to do things for yourself. He has a very dry sense of humor which I enjoyed, but I can see finding his class boring if you don't since he has a bit of a monotone voice.
Hardess class EVER. Notes terrible. Exams ridiculous. Just the hardest class ever. ENJOY.
The most monotonous professor I ever had. This guy could make Harry Potter boring. Awful notes (very wordy) and fine detail is tested. Even the font he types in is boring; how he has a job where he's allowed to speak is mind blowing
Really boring tone of voice, exams are pretty difficult. Isn't really personable.
Not a terrible lecture to attend and i could have enjoyed the class, but his tests are ridiculous. Only half of it is based on legitimate course material, the rest is based on useless and trivial details that you will never find in your notes or the textbook. I would avoid this prof unless you have no other options.
This guy turns out the lights, shows you pictures of rocks and speaks in the most monotonous voice possible. I once drank a ginormous monster in his class and STILL fell asleep.
Dr. Clark is a great lecturer and if you have any interest in the course material i strongly recommend his class. Yes, his tone is dry and his lectures aren't exactly a party, but he gets the point across and has very thorough notes. People who dislike his class probably struggle with university as a whole. He has fairly tough tests, so study.
Amazing Prof. Easy to get along with, and incredible helpful if you put in the time to visit his office. His exams are tough if you don't pay attention, but if you work to learn and understand the material, the little details come along in the process.
Very logical notes, always posted, detailed syllabus which actually helps students learn. Clark is very helpful at office hours and once u get to know him, a very nice guy despite his old-school techniques:dislikes those who disturb lectures. U will learn not only course material, but also how to deal with future courses and life. A true professor!
Class is hard, just requires a lot of memorizing.
Dr. Clark is a great prof, but he's an extremely hard test marker. In 5 of his exams I've taken, he never once tested on anything outside of his notes, but you MUST show up to class to get the notes, he only posts outlines. Lots of memorization in this course, but if you review well enough in advance and learn what he expects you can do well.
taken three classes with him already. although test were hard, but he is an awesome professor.
This prof talked so fast. It's all written for midterms and finals. If you are a petroleum engineering student, don't take his class. It's all memorization. He made the exames so hard that the average was like 50%. Strongly NOT recommended.
OMG is what i can say right now. Poor the PET E students, Got their brain tortured by the useless notes, boring lectures, and a terrible prof. I did not learn much in this class. I used to love EAS. Now it has all gone. What a sadness.
A little monotonous, but not a bad prof. Great class overall. Exams are fair and not super difficult. Course note outlines could be better written, but great detail and very interesting material. Make sure to attend every class for the iClicker questions (participation) and notes (only outlines posted on eClass). Don't use your cellphone in class!
Boring class, boring lectures, and a lot of memorization. But the notes make sense if you read them on your own time, despite of not paying attention in class. Exams are all from notes and questions are fair if you have read the notes well. However, you do need to show up to class to "fill" in the incomplete notes/outlines.
Dr. Clark has been my favourite prof. His notes are half-filled so you need to attend class. He will call you out if he sees you using your phone. He uses iclicker as a participation grade, so it's an easy 5% percent if you attend each class. He really knows what he's talking about. I enjoy his classes. Decided to take 209 cause he was teaching it.
Dr. Clark is a great prof once you get past how boring his lectures are sometimes. If you actually show up and read the notes after class, the exams are extremely fair and not that hard. Anyone who says 'his class is hard' is clearly incapable of showing up to class or reading a set of very comprehensive notes. Take the notes, read them, get an A.
Awesome prof. Notes are so organized. Actually a really funny guy sometimes. Tells you what not to study. Great class.
very boring to listen to, noted were basically a GIANT word document that you filled in class, therefore it was kinda hard to know what to study for. I studied mainly the broader concepts and got a B+ so not bad. Tests are pretty easy MC and 2-3 short answer. Textbook needed for the diagrams!!
Clark's class was okay. I didn't care for the note style he presented (especially since our notes lacked diagrams), but the blanks (whether you like them or not) are a very effective method for getting you to come to class. He is a bit monotonous, but he does make an effort to bring humour into his lectures and is willing to help you if you need it
Dr.Clark has the breath of a giant. He speaks too fast in class to understand concepts with fill in the blank style notes. BUT!Once you look over the notes they are easily understandable. He is always willing to answer students who are engaged. Definitely recommend if you can memorize plenty of dates/numbers.
I found his notes organized and you have to go to class-they're fill in the blank. iclicker questions were found on exams. I found his class hard, and he was very condescending. the comments he gave me on assignments were quite rude. I found the exams difficult. He wasn't really open to helping me and answering my questions.
Dr.Clark is a very condescending, and seems to not care about the well being of his students. His exams were fair, but his notes were very poorly explained and honestly he’s just a person i would have rather not met.
FIND A BUDDY. Fill in the blank notes are not everybody's favourite. If you miss a class, you miss all the notes. But if you and a friend work it out so that at least one of you is there when needed, you'll be fine. Also, you don't need the textbook!!! Notes outline important dates and material. Clark is an old school prof, but nice enough.
Dr. Clark knows his stuff but his voice is rather monotonous. I enjoyed the class because dinosaurs/extinctions are cool, but there is A LOT of memorization. Exams are fair but he sometimes tests on obscure facts. Written portions of exams are quite fair, and based on fairly important/well-covered parts of the course. Great grading scheme.
Definitely recommend the prof. His notes don't contain diagrams and they're fill in the blank so you HAVE to have the textbook to review at home. DO THE ICLICKER QUESTIONS and know them well- an easy 5% and half of the exam is the exact same questions! Fair exams- if you studied, you'll find it a breeze. Doesn't try and trick you.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class! His notes are clear, easy to follow and to fill in during class. Exams are straight forward and mostly multiple choice apart from one long answer question which are fairly marked. Participation and assignment marks lessen the exam burden... slightly
Posts fill-in-the-blank notes on eclass, but you must attend class to fill them in. Since I didn't pay 600 bucks to skip class, I had no problem with this, and actually really liked this note style. Clark is very knowledgable, helpful, and clear, although he can speak rapidly. Deliberately vague about final exam content, but I still managed a B.
memorize notes and u will do well. simple as that
If you do not have to take this course, or any course with this teacher for that matter, please... PLEASE don't. I took EAS thinking it would be interesting, and somehow Dr. Clark found a way to make it intolerable. Class drags on by the minute, he marks EXCEPTIONALLY hard, and because he is the main EAS teacher, almost every EAS class has him. Run
Avoid taking any classes with him! Notes are fill-in-the-blank Word documents that do not match the powerpoint he uses in class so it is annoying to take notes. There are no diagrams in the notes he gives so you basically have to memorize 30-page essays for exams which test very fine details. Avoid him if you're looking for A- or higher!
The topic itself wasn't interesting, so it isn't like going to class was exciting every day. But, his exams are very clear cut; study his notes, you'll do well. It's really that simple. He doesn't trick you with dumb questions and although an A isn't easy because of the amount of material to know, it's easy if you put in effort and study his notes.
This class had A LOT of memorization, but if you give yourself time to study it was pretty easy. Exams are not hard if you studied and was very fair, everything is from the notes, he will never test you on something he never said. Make sure to attend class to fill in notes and do iclicker questions!
He will spend two or three lectures on plate tectonics but these questions take up 3/4 of both midterms and the final.
2 midterms & final, term assignment 5%, iclicker; fill in the blank notes. no readings! Exams mc/written make you connect the dots but everything's in the notes. MEMORIZE EVERYTHING INCLUDING ICLICKER QUESTIONS! of exams was iclicker he did in class. Really nice guy, straightforward & easy to understand. Go to class, study the notes & you're good
Dr. Clarks lectures are quite dry and boring. His notes are fill in the blank so go to class! Iclicker marks are an easy 5% and some of the questions he presents in class will appear on exams. Exams are tricky and you have to memorize everything! DO not take if you're looking for an easy A/A-.
Dr. Clark was an excellent instructor and I really enjoyed showing up for lecture every TR. He was enthusiastic about the material and his note structure was fluid and logical. Midterm and final were fair, but be ready to memorize as there is a lot of content. Participation marks were given for showing up, which shouldn't be a problem with Clark.
Very interesting class, but the material after the second midterm (mass extinctions) was rather dry. You need to memorize EVERYTHING in the notes to do well. His notes are good, but lack the images he shows in class, which is a bit annoying. DO take if you're a bio (ecology/zoology) major.
The hardesd course ive ever took. DONT consider it as a GPA booster just bc it talks about dinosaurs... A lot of stuff to remember and multiple choices are very detail. Definately not recommend. I put all my effort on this course and barely passed...
I love his style of teaching - very knowledgeable. I love his dry sense of humor too, it's great.
Dr. Clark's lecturing style can be a bit dry at times but he's very thorough in explaining concepts; his notes are clear & have all the information you need to do well. I definitely agree with the below poster-he's actually really funny if you appreciate his dry sense of humour & I loved the irreverent cartoons he put included in his lectures.
Lectures were long and dull, but this class was super easy. Basically show up to class and pass. There was no homework assigned, but there were two midterms. Questions were taken directly from the regular iClicker quizzes. Although I found his teaching style uncreative and boring, Professor Clark was enthusiastic. Easy GPA booster.
Second class I've taken with Dr. Clark, and as much as some of the material itself is boring at times, it can be interesting if you make it that way. His tests may require you to remember almost all of the notes, but there is zero ambiguity in what is asked, and the questions are more than fair. Would definitely take another class with him.
I struggled in this class, I appreciate that Dr. C made an effort to keep things interesting but his lecture style is dry. It is a passable class and attending class was important. There are only 3 exams and the final exam is 45% of the final grade, MC portion of the exam was easy but I lost marks on the written response every time.
Dr. Clark gives out outlines that you have to fill in class, so skipping class is a terrible idea. Exams are exactly from the notes, so you have to memorize all the notes. Not enough time given for exams (2 midterms- WR and MC, 5% iClicker and final) and its a struggle to finish. He is helpful out of class, but rather rude and uncaring.
Dr. Clark is a terrific professor. He took a terribly boring subject -- unless trilobites, jawless fish and animal ancestry is your thing -- and made it more than bearable. There was no required textbook for this course. All of his questions come from lecture notes, however, you must attend class to complete the notes. As in, you MUST.
I would really emphasize not to take this course if you think it will be a GPA booster. I thought it was and boy was i wrong. He really makes easy concepts so much harder and boring. If you don't attend class you wont get the notes online and you will not pass. Him being so monotone and uninteresting made it hard for me to engage in his lectures.
Clark is an excellent prof, though it can be hard to pay attention due to his monotone voice. 2 midterms and 1 final, M/C and written response which are fair you just need to make sure you pay attention to concepts emphasized in class. will test on a few tiny details such as names/locations. I-clicker questions DO show up on exams
Great lecturer, fair exams. Overall a great prof. Really enjoyed his class!
I took this course after taking Paleo 200, so the Paleo background definitely helped out. Tests are super fair since everything is taken from the notes, but you do need to know the details to do well. You can't skip because of the template format notes and iClicker questions, but if you show up and take them all down then you're golden if you study
Two midterms worth 25%, iClicker participation 5% and a final worth 45%. The test were a cumulative with one short answer. The class is mind numbingly boring, it's not as easy to get a very good mark in this class. Most will end the class with a B
He was great, memorize the notes and the class is a breeze. Going to lectures is necessary to fill in the notes + the iclicker questions show up on exams, sometimes he made jokes. Knows alot about earth science, passionate. I winged the final worth 45% and got a 75% on it just cuz I went to every class. He says he doesn't curve but he does.
His class is a little bit plain, but all contents in the course are covered. His explanation to certain definition or academic phrases is very important because these will largely appear in exam. All class notes are the range of the final exam so the text book will not be always used.
Tests straight from his notes, zero continuity. So a lot to memorize. Lectures were also very dry, and he has fill in the blank notes, so attendance is mandatory. However, if you are good at memorizing, then i suggest you take his class. Other than that, avoid him.
His notes are just too boring and contains too much unnecessary details. It's very hard to study from notes.
Kind of boring to listen to for 80 minutes but really knowledgeable.
Dr. Clark has been teaching for 26 years now, and his experience shows--clear criteria, very organized (he returns midterms the day after! what?!), respectful to students and expects and receives the same from them. I really enjoyed having him as a prof. His methods are slightly dated in that he doesn't post slides, but his note packages are great!
He's funny when he calls people out for being loud. He teaches the course very well and constantly gives applications for what you're currently learning about. I came into the course, thinking it was going to be super boring, but he made it pretty fun!
If you're taking this class as a GPA booster because it has "dinosaurs" in the course name, go to Beartracks right now and drop it. This person is one of the most punitive (and dull) professors I've ever encountered, and cares very little for his students. Take something more interesting that'll actually help your GPA, this class isn't worth it.
I enjoyed Dr. Clark's class. It's clear that he's knowledgeable in what he teaches. You need to come to class every day in order to fill in the notes, plus iClicker questions which do show up on the tests. Tests consist of mostly multiple choice with a written response portion. The better you are at memorizing the notes, the better you'll do.
Great prof and the only prof so have fun. The labs are stressful but my tips are to talk to everyone sitting around you and help each other, and don't be afraid to ask the TAs for information. 95% of the substance of his exams were covered in notes, other 5% from iClicker questions, so write those/their answers down! Good luck.
Overall a good choice for a professor, he tests straight from his notes and his iclicker questions. His exam questions are straight forward and don't actually require that much critical thinking. He can be a little dry and the course covers a lot of material covered in other biology and zoology courses on vertebrate development.
fun class. Very clearly state what he wants you to know so easy to study for
Dr. Clark may seem a little dry, but I found his lectures engaging due to my love for the subject. I found the textbook useful for the lab component of the course, but unnecessary for the lecture component. You do need to show up for class, as he posts lecture outlines that are filled in during class.
Dr. Clark is so passionate about geology and earth sciences and it makes caring about the class a lot easier. Partial notes are put on eClass and then during lectures, power points are gone through with the missing notes that you need to fill in. Pay attention to iClicker questions as a lot of them are on the exams.
I can see how Clark's lectures could be boring if you have no interest in Earth Sci, but if you do then he is great. Lots of local examples and the format let's you sit back, relax, and learn some cool stuff. Lots of his iclicker questions show up on eclass and the man grades tests at the speed of light.
This professor gave a lot of course material. Yes you learn a lot. However, he tends to speak in a monotone voice which can cause minds to wander. No phones are allowed to be seen by him. If you're looking at this course because it says dinosaurs in the title and you think it will be fun, I would drop it. iClicker questions are on the exam.
My favourite professor. Really caring and passionated about his field. The course itself is not easy but if you are interested in paleontology and geology, he is the best person.
Honestly Dr. Clark is the best prof I've had at the u of a. His notes are pretty bad as he doesn't post completed slides but the lectures are so interesting that it more then makes up for it. 10/10 would take again
Fred is extremely passionate about what he does and it truly shows in his lectures. He tries is absolute best to convey the boring material as effectively as possible. The downside is you have to sit through every lecture. He will absolutely not provide notes outside of lecture time. These notes are essential as his exams are structured around them
