What Students Say
“If you want to waste an hour and a half of your day or you just need a place to sleep I recommend this class because you'll just sit there and listen to him ramble on until you forget the topic of the discussion, he is a nice person and can speak of good topics but at the end of the day you'll wonder why you even went to class that day”

Very nice guy & highly intelligent however, I don't feel like I'm learning anything.
Conquest is an easy teacher. Anthropology is an easy class. This class is the definition of an introductory 100-level class.
I spent a lot of time in his class listening to him talk about his thesis for his PHD (something about rings in a tree and how that shows how much water its had...whatever...) He is very monotone and could put anyone to sleep.
Monotone, and very very easy to pass. He just gave everyone in my class A's as long as their work was turned in, regardless of quality, though out of laziness I don't know.
When the Webster needed to know the meaning of monotone, he visited Fred Conquest. Very easy to pass but stay clear if you're actually interested in learning.
This man knows his stuff, but he's not well-suited to classroom lecturing. He's monotonous and loses his train of thought easily, but is highly personable with easy, easy assignments. He'll give you all the time in the world to catch up in class, but lectures are dull and often repetitive.

Every other word he says is "Okay". One student in the class literally tallied up how many times he said "Okay" to 115 times. Easy A if you can put up with the boredom. Generally lets the VCR teach for him. One of the worst I have ever had.
I had this guy my freshman year and I have yet to find a professor more disinterested in the education of his students. INTOLERABLE, BORING, AND TOTALLY USELESS ANTHROPOLOGY INSTRUCTOR.
Good professor, I thought he was such a good professor that I enrolled in 3 of his classes during a couple semesters
Has serious problems staying on topic. Hands out A's with minimal effort required. Should not be teaching in a college environment.

I think he's a great teacher, but he talks too much, and he doesn't even make you open the book as much. What's the point of having a book, when he doesn't even open it. He needs to add something in his lesson plan, because during class his boring. He doesn't make things exciting.
He takes long ass breaks in his sentances, and then he forgets where he left off. He has a very **** view on things. Good subject, bad teacher. DO NOT take him
Seldom stays on topic. Comes to lecture unprepared. It takes literally no effort to get an "A". Doesnt even force certain students to turn in the assignments and gives them token A's anyway. Talks about all of his experience, but never goes in depth in a relevant way. Should not be teaching.
If you want an easy "A" take Conquest. You watch movies everyday and when he lectures, it has nothing to do with the book. He tells you to read, but you don't have to. Don't even buy a book, because he tells you what will be on the test the class before the test and then you have a term paper, which I don't think he even reads because he never handed it back to me, but he told me I got an "A"
HE DID TEND TO GO OFF THE SUBJECT, BUT HE WAS STILL INTERESTING.
Extremely easy A. 2 tests, one take home, and one paper. If you write the paper, you're pretty much guaranteed an A and as long as you make an attempt to answer all the questions on the test you'll get an A or B. Was interesting at times.

I Don't know why would you drop this class? You got to be really stupid to fail, its really EASY TRUST ME! It consist of two tests mid-term/final, take home essay and book review on the two books he assigned. Don't worry he gives ANSWERS to the test. Be warned he talks alot, his notes tend to be allover and he does have negative view on things!
Very easy class. Lots of movies. He repeats what is going to be on the test 2 or 3 times, so if he says something more than once write it down.
Wow, this man is the worst person I've ever met, all we do in his class is walk in, he waddles in, then he complains about Republicans and America for a good hour. After that, we then watch a movie with weird villages with nude people running all over the place. Just the other day he was telling us who we should vote for in class. Bad teacher...
Took him for ANTH 102 in the summer, ANTH 202 in the fall. He is a very very boring teacher. However, he is an easy grader; I didn't turn in the main paper, and I still got a B for the class. If you fail his class, you probably showed up once the entire semester.
If you fail his class, you must not have attended class what so ever. He's so easy, I don't know how you can fail even if you don't try.
Good teacher. Easy if you pay attention.
Great Professor and class
Aweful. Dreadful. Blah. If you want a class where all you do is watch movies and listen to random babbling, this class (and this professor) is for you. It's an easy A - do the paper, take the tests, get on his good side - attend the games or talk about the CSN baseball team and you'll be good to go!
this guy is great I have taken him for 4 of my anthro classes and I got A's in all of them. He makes athro FUN and all you have to do is watch movies and you will PASS
Ya know, I heard this easy A stuff from other students and I have to say, there is nothing easy about the essay questions on the exams. However, the prof is not too strict on the content on your answers as long as you grasp the concepts. Lots of interesting movies. Plan to take all my Anthro classes through him. He's a good easy going instructor.
I enjoyed this class. I would say that Professor Conquest was a little essentric but not dull. He has a dry sense of humor and sometimes people don't get his jokes. The tests were not extremely easy, but as long as you study and pay attention in class (you are only allowed to miss 3 before a grade is deducted) you should come out with a A or B.
Took the class over summer & it was very easy. There were 3 tests, 1 being take home. He grades easy as long as you grasp the concepts on the short answer. Just show up to class & watch the videos since they are on the test. He gives a review that covers the whole test the day before. Cool teacher & good for you gpa if you need this for requirement
The coursework is interesting and easy. The teacher can ramble. He gets very worked up about politics, economics, and the such - so if you're not into that, then choose a different professor. He has 2 midterms (one take home and the other in T/F & multiple choice & a few essay questions format), one final, and a final paper. A Breeze!
He's a pretty interesting guy. He can ramble, but he likes when you ask questions and get involved with discussion. Never uses the book until it's time for texts/exams, when he'll let you know the chapters required. Movies 90% the semester. He's extremely nice, willing to help with any explanation regarding tests/exams. Gives plenty of extra credit
Dr. Conquest is the best!
Excellent teacher & great resources to aide in learning
Easy class, difficult to follow his thought process
This professor is a "unique" individual. But I'm glad I took the class, the movies are actually interesting, the tests are very straightforward. His reviews are good and cover everything on the tests. You will learn things that will stick with you, and Dr. Conquest will be a character you won't forget! haha
This class was very boring. We watched a movie almost everyday that wanted to put me to sleep. It's an easy class but bring a comfortable pillow!
dumb. he doesnt teach out of the book and makes it up as he goes along. test are a joke. essay questions you can write whatever you want and get ir write, even if you write you dont know the answer. super easy A but you wont learn a thing.
Dr. Conquest is just so hot and nice to us baseball players. Man, his picture doesn't do him justice. His soft voice was so sweet, too. Fred, if you're reading this, I LOVE YOU!!
Let's the movies teach for him. Supremely easy to pass, if you can stand the boredom. Never opens the book, it's not even necessary. Attendance isn't mandatory. Not a good teacher but a good scholar once you join in the discussion. No clear lesson plan and he loses his train of thought constantly. 1 in-class test. 1 take home test that he gives 1 m
I am currently taking Dr. Conquest's class. At first I thought he was really funny, and a good teacher. But now that the semester is coming to an end, he can't seem to get organized. It is very hard to tell when assignments will be, unless you straight up ask. His videos are EXTREMELY boring. I did not learn anything new from this course.
If you pay attention to the videos you will actually learn something. His lectures are great, again if you pay attention and show up. Join in the discussion you may learn some stuff.
You will watch videos out the ying-yang that have almost nothing to do with the subject, but you still have to take notes and pay attention cuz it's on the test. Take notes on what he says and writes down, do the readings in the book, take the tests, collect your A. You'll probably end up learning more things unrelated to Anthro in this class.
He's a great teacher
Currently in his class fall 10 easy A. 2 midterms one take home. 1 final. Lots of videos. Just pay attention to videos and his review before the tests and you'll do fine
Easy A. Attendance not needed, there is no sign in sheet. All you do is watch videos and the tests are take home and the questions are so vague that you do not need to read ANY of the books to answer them to get an A. Don't expect to learn anything. I was very disappointed to say the least.
watched alot of videos, take home test was useless.
I don't understand why CSN even hired him as a professor. You will do absolutely nothing other than watch videos on stuff that has nothing to do with Archeology. These videos are VERY boring but needed for the tests. Complete WASTE of my money and time. I dropped the class after the midterm it was that bad!!
EASY class, watch a bunch of videos, no home work, easy midterm... take this class for an easy A... I didn't need the books (only needed for midterm)
the class is just watching videos that occasionally have something to do with the assigned reading. the lectures are a series of tangents, no productive, but they do tend to be entertaining. the homework is read the book. midterm and a final were simple, 30 true false, 6 short essay, easy class
This is the 3rd class I have taken with Conquest. It's an easy A. 3 tests total (1 take home) EASY! EASY! EASY!. Not much use of books. 70% videos/10% discussion/20% lecture. Take this prof to boost your GPA. Dr. Conquest is really easy going/lazy. Wonderful scholar (as this is my major) but horrid instructor.
His classes are so boring! The only thing you do is watch videos every single class meeting and sometimes they have to do with what the topic of the course is about. The only grades are a midterm and final paper which I don't think he even reads. His classes are very easy A's if you can handle the boredom but you're not going to learn anything!
I have taken a class with him previousally, show up so you can get all of the movies for the test questions. Take side notes, and read the books required on your own time. He might be a bland speaker but everything he talks about is intresting, and gives food for thought.
I liked this Professor, this was the first college class I had taken and really enjoyed it at the time. I took it Summer of 2011. As long as you take good notes I really don't see how someone wouldn't get an A. I also found what he had to say interesting, not boring at all like the other comments here..
Dr. Conquest's class is very interesting. He covers a lot of world archaeology in this course and is always interesting to listen to. The videos he shows us gives us a lot of insightful information as well as food for thought. There is only a midterm and final exam and they're pretty easy.
This class is very interesting, Peoples and Cultures of the World. There are only a few assignments: a take-home midterm exam in which Dr. Conquest gives you ample amount of time to complete as well as a presentation on a specific culture. Very easy class and Dr. Conquest is full of knowledge he is always sharing. Highly recommend him.
Organization is very lacking. Syllabus is vague, no set due dates or grading rubrics. Has difficulty completing a point. We watched videos and listened to him talk about water conservation and desert agriculture. I turned in nothing, skipped the last few weeks, and got a D. Good for an easy grade. Take someone else if you want to learn.
I love taking my Anthropology classes with him! He is always there to answer questions. If you miss a few videos he will give you links to watch them online... Super easy class. I don't find him boring at all. I would rather watch videos than listen to a professor talk the entire class. Maybe that's just me... Do the exams.. Watch the videos. Easy.
Dr. Conquest is a great scholar. He has vast knowledge he shares on many different topics but it all relates to the study of anthropology. I felt the videos he showed in class were very informative and interesting. The assignments were also crystal clear. I would recommend taking any anthropology class he teaches!
The films Dr. Conquest shows are really interesting and give you something to think about. It's all relevant to the field of anthropology and so are the books we're required to read. This is a really good class and I recommend it if you're looking to learn a lot of useful information!
so boring but so easy a caveman could do it, 3 grades, two take home finals, eassssssssssssssy
Dr. Conquest is a great scholar and definitely knows what he's talking about. This class consists of a lot of films but they are all related to the course material. The grades are based off a take-home midterm exam and an in-class final. He grades very leniently as long as you back up your answers. Recommended for any anthropology class!
Everyone I know that's taken Conquest has talked about how easy his class is. Every single class, we watched a video and took notes. I literally fell asleep in a few classes and still got an A. Midterm and final are mostly short answer questions about the videos shown and maybe one or two from the readings. I bought the book but never opened it.
Super easy classes. Dr. Conquest primarily teaches by showing videos; some lecture. Though he isn't the most organized of teachers (no clear due datesassignments), there are few homework assignments and only two tests- midterm and final. Show up so you can complete the notes (journals) to turn in, pay attention, and tests are easy.
If you are looking for an easy class to pass here it is. You do not even need to buy the book, don't waste your money. All you do is watch videos and take notes on them. We had one mid-term and then a take home final & an in class final. I never even read the book and I got an A in the class.
Fred Conquest is the coolest! He's highly intelligent and his lectures are pretty fun to listen to! He pretty much just shows videos, but they relate to what he's talking about! Take him! Nice guy and easy A!!!
If you are trying to boost your GPA, I highly recommend this class. He only shows videos (so take good notes) and there is only an essay based midterm and final. You hardly use the assigned textbooks so if you can just go to the library and check them out there or buddy up with someone who bought it.
Awesome class to take, everyday is a video about a different ancient civilization. Books are only needed for the mid terms, some questions pertain to the books. Only two mid terms and a final. He's a nice guy, likes to joke. I'd take a class with him again.
Oh Conquest... I was quite interested in Anthropology and you made it very confusing and fuddled and down right boring. Lectures were almost always documentaries that don't feel as though they entirely apply and you constantly talk over them anyways. If someone is looking for an easy A, this is pretty much that, however, be prepared for some bull.
He was probably my favorite professor so far at CSN. He is so chill and all we pretty much did was watch videos. He is really funny and he tells you a lot of cool facts. As for his tests they are a cake walk and he even gives extra credit on them. I have to take him again in the fall and it will be nice to have a stress free class again.
If you want to waste an hour and a half of your day or you just need a place to sleep I recommend this class because you'll just sit there and listen to him ramble on until you forget the topic of the discussion, he is a nice person and can speak of good topics but at the end of the day you'll wonder why you even went to class that day
Don't get me wrong. Fred Conquest is a really nice guy, but way too easy. I got a A in his class without having to really work. When I took a higher Anthropology class with someone else I was totally unprepared especially compared with students who had someone else for Anthropology. Be careful if you have to take anymore Anth after you have Fred
i took his online course & for someone that had never had interest in anthropology i learned some neat things, anytime i had questions email response was right back to me ASAP , u can work ahead, 14 quizzes is ur homework (can take twice) , final exam was challenging had me up late nights but if you give 100 he will give you 100. great professor.
Very easy class, Doesn't care about attendance but if you need extra points later on to boost your grade he wont do it unless you showed up. Watch A LOT of videos and listen to him talk that's about it. Quizzes are on the book so you need it. Grade is take home midterm take home final and a few quizzes. Overall easy and great way to get credits.
We watched videos everyday and some were actually interesting. Attendance isnt mandatory. Grade is based upon quizzes and 2 take home test. Quizzes are t/f and short answer mostly from the book and some from the videos. Take home tests are essays about 4 questions and each question had to be answered in 2 pages minimum.
The whole class is watching youtube videos while he sleeps in the back of the class. The midterms are 12-page papers based on the videos that I am fairly confident he does not read since I turned in the same paper for both the final and midterm and got an A on both. It is an easy class but I would recommend other teachers for learning anything.
Conquest is a unique professor to put it bluntly. He'll grade you with 2 take home essays, and a test or 2. You'll watch movies every meeting, so if you're reading the book you can actually skip the last two weeks if you want to finish your paper. He's odd, but very passionate about Anthropology. READ THE BOOK, you're required to write a review.
If you don't mind coming to class to watch movies, then this is your class. I think we only had one lecture that he actually taught us. The movies are informative, but seems like a waste of time. He knows what he is talking about, but it's boring watching videos every class. Easy A, we had a paper and only took one quiz.
14 quizzes, 25 questions each, work at your own pace, final exam is a written work. No DP's. Well-organized class, chill professor. I LOVE this style of teaching. Very rich learning resources, such as National Geographic, TED talks, and reading from the book. Very straight forward. Navigate enjoyably one's own way through the course. Life changing!
Conquest talks in circles and just puts on hour-long videos each class. You don't have to show up because he does not take attendance, but he puts questions from the videos into the tests. He is kind of clueless and makes crude jokes. I would not suggest taking the class if you want to learn.
There are 4 assigments(50pts, 50pts, 50pts, and 150pts) Take this if you are trying to get it out of the way, but know you won't learn anything of substance. Just finished the course and didn't speak to him once. It's all opinion essays and skimming through History channel episodes. Really a shame. CSN needs more professors for this class.
3 assignments-- 2 midterms and a final, all take-home essays. 5 questions per midterm, 2 pages per Q. Only 2 questions on final. Very easy class, nice and lenient guy. He says you need 3 books-- you can fake it. Video every day of class because he believes it's how students learn best. Take for an easy A, not if you want to major in anthropology.
DR. C was amazing. You watch a-lot of videos which I like. As long as you take great notes its not hard to get an A. I took Anthro 101 and 102 both classes I got an A. Pretty easy going guy.
I took the summer 4 week course. This course was straight forward and self paced. As for grading, there are 14 quizzes and a final. There are a lot of videos. I honestly did not touch my textbook until the final. The final was written but nothing too major if you stay on track by watching your videos and reading your textbook.
I took his online class. He doesn't communicate with us at all. His canvas is very poorly organized which makes it difficult to find the midterm and final. The midterm and final is not multiple choice. Watch the videos and read all three books he assigns. He gives no guidance whatsoever.
The WORST. Online class was very confusing. I recommend taking another professor.
Dr. Conquest is a very nice guy and anth 101 was a super easy class. Its pretty under stimulating for someone who doesnt care for anthropology though. Dont expect anything to be posted on canvas very often either. Overall, really easy, and hes cool to talk to. I would definitely take again.
He doesn't teach at all. Don't take his class if you want to learn. Take his class if you want an easy A.
His online class is very confusing. There were no due dates and it kept messing up with what was due like quizzes. But not too much work. A bunch of videos, reading, 14 quizzes, two lists of what you learned, and two essays. Not a lot of work at all. I predict I will have an A. It is just confusing because I don't think he is tech-savvy
The professor only posted announcements-not assignments. If you miss the announcement, you wouldn't even be aware that there's an assignment due because it doesn't even show up on your to-do page. I ended up missing my midterm because he didn't even make it an assignment so I wasn't aware when it was due! (also nowhere to submit?) So annoying smh.
Extremely easy class, just showed documentaries that barely taught anything. Do not buy the textbooks, they are used in one question each, and those questions are very easy to make up the answers to. Only three assignments that amount to busywork, very lenient grading, should be impossible to get lower than an A. Very old, beware of some bigotry.
I have 4 week summer class. Only midterm and final exam, just read and make one essay, make 20 things for the midterm and 20 thing for the final. He's will gave u full grade as long as u turn in on time and make it enough.
To be fair, I think he has gotten a bad rep and he's really a nice guy. He does post a midterm and a final, but you have to wait till he creates it and it shows up on the to-do list. If you want to submit it earlier talk to him and then email it. He was a little vague but he always answered my questions. Why give a one star and get A+.I liked him!!
This class is very easy, if you are looking for a class with heavy lectures this is not the one. There are no assignments other than having to read the books assigned and the tests that are given every so often. Personally I did not have any troubles and class is easy to get through.
I have taken two to three of Professor Conquests' classes, and he is such great professor. He does teach by a lot of videos, however the videos are extremely interesting and very valuable to Anthropology majors. If you have any questions or want more resources he always has office hours or emails fast. I highly recommend this professor!
Took the 8-week course, there was 1 midterm and 1 final exam. Had to buy the textbook and 2 other books totaling $60. The midterm and final exam were extremely easy but time-consuming. Easy grader.
I took the 8-week class; it's an easy A. Just videos and book reading. There isn't much discussion to be had, which may actually help for this class. I'm not talking about discussion posts, but if you want to get something out of it, you'd be better off taking it in person. The books are easily found online for free using pdfs and stuff.
Conquest is a forgiving professor. The exams were the only assignments, and they focused heavily on opinion. This is way better than multiple choice or whatever because it allows students to actually think about the material. The texts were cheap and interesting. As long as you show up and pay attention to the videos, you can get an A+
4 week summer-Professor Conquest provides clear instructions in Canvas at the start of the course.I had to reach out to the professor once and he replied almost immediately and was very friendly. If you have no real interest in anthropology, consider taking an in-person class instead, as the study materials are very in-depth.Lots of videos/reading.
