Coolidge keeps the lecturs interesting and fun, but study for the tests!
He's a great teacher, but a lot of students tend to think he's a little arrogant
he spends most of his time telling us how smart and wonderful he is. Entertainer
What was expected in assignments was unclear and the TA was of virtually no help

He is the worst professor I have had in my four years here. If I had him for another class, I would either switch schools or change my major, in order not to deal with him again. He is very arrogant and ungrateful.
Arrogant, pretentious and at times verbally abusive. Even worse, he's a terrible teacher. Stay clear.
I really enjoyed Fred Coolidges intro to psychology class. He knows what he's talking about, and he's very funny (not boring). He wrote the textbook for the class, too, which to me indicates that that he's up on the subject.
I took his stats class, he failed me. I earned a C & had all work to prove it. I emailed him for 9 mos. asking him to change my grade. He admitted in the first response that it was an error. It wasn't until I threatened to go to the dean that he fixed it.
He tells students that if they are a psych major, they must take his stats class to graduate. However, CU Boulder offers a correspondence class that you can take for the same credit. Avoid Coolidge - verbally abusive and disorganized.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. If you thought any less of him, you are an idiot. He is passionate, and creative. If you can't learn from him, you're lazy.

Please Fred, cut the mullet. Thank god that self-proclaimed attendance-Nazi thing. Otherwise, I might not have made it through advanced statistics!
He was a very good prof for this class though I had heard rumors, and subsequently did not take his stats class and opted for another prof. Take the dream interpretation class, you'll see a different, less anal side of him.
does not belong in a position of influencing people who wish to become psychologists.
He says that you can get an A as long as you are doing the work and you have to basically be jumping up and down screaming to fail but I know a lot of people who didn't do too well in the class. The TA is incredibly anal about the way that you write out the answers. Take only if you are willing to work hard and learn from your mistakes.
coolidge was probably the funniest prof i've ever had I laughed non stop in his class. He also explained the material very well, I probably would have failed with any other professor. He's not as scary as he seems some people need to just relax.

Great professor. Do all of your extra credit. Attend every class. As long as you pay attention and you will do great. If you miss even one class you may not pass. :o)
Very anal in the way he grades but it is an easy class if you go to all of the classes and do all of the extra credit. NO TESTS which is awesome but there is a lot of work. Go to the TA for help if you need it..Coolidge is very opinionated but if you can ignore it he is actually funny. VERY EASY if you follow all of the rules and do well on the hw.
By far, one of the best professors at UCCS. The text he wrote for this class is witty and interesting. He is an interesting person who is very generous with his time and sharing knowledge/experience. Go talk to him! People who have a problem with him need to grow up and take responsiblity for their own education. If you don't care, why should he?
I learned alot from this professor and he makes the subject matter very interesting and even entertaining at times! He isn't arrogant he is passionate and enthusiastic about his work...anyway even if he were arrogant, he has earned the right to be...Helloooo...give respect where it is due! GREAT TEACHER!
tough, but fair. kinda wacky
Coolidge is an excellent teacher. I was scared to take stats, but his love for the subject matter, real world examples, and thorough explanations made it fun and easy. The text goes perfectly with the lecture; and as long as you pay attention ask questions, and read the book when you get stuck, you will get an A. He also gives away lots of EC.
This Prof has won all of the teaching awards possible and for good reason. He is the best and does really care about us learning the material and applying it to real life. I would take every class possible with him!
This prof is the absolute best...the text,(he wrote!!!) is awesome and the class was beyond compare!..I will take every class he teaches!!!
Dr Coolidge is the absolute best prof ever....he is tough but he expects the students to be adults and take responsibility for their world ... a great life lesson. Those who dis him are soooo immature and should be at community college!!!
Wow, what a great class and the text was outstanding! I loved the real world examples. Coolidge is funny, but very smart. If you pay attention and are willing to work, you can get a decent grade in this class.
Dr. Coolidge is brillant, interesting, passionate about statistics, and has earned his accolades. He is also, unapproachable, condecending, and extremely difficult and unfair in his grading methods. He will take 5 pts off of a 20 pt paper for a missing comma. Seriously, An A is impossible in this class, unless it is the only class you take.
Great class...and BTW, I am earning an A right now! A little hard work, attention to detail and it is very possible.
Pros: He knows his stuff & genuinely wants classes to succeed. My class has 3 TA's, help is avail. Gives extra credit. Cons: HW grading is sketchy at times (once got more pts. off than were avail. on HW).very picky. Been docked for side of the paper I showed my work. This class'll either be great for you or it will stress you out beyond belief.
The class is honestly not difficult. He really knows his stuff and how to explain it. The book helps immensely. He's a stickler for accuracy, but getting an A is not impossible and extra credit comes our your ears. Though, make sure you have lots of paper. This class is a bit of a tree killer ;)
He likes to talk about himself. Don't be surprised if he is not interested in your life or your problems with the material. Make sure to be very specific on your homework-the TAs will take off points for little mistakes...I left out one word and lost 75 out of 200 points.
Great class...great prof!!
I love stats, got a 5 on my AP Stats test but a C in this man's class. He justifies his grading by saying that journals are very stern about their format, but none of the articles I've read have followed the format he taught. I'll never forgive UCCS for not accepting my stats test score.
This guy is great! Funny and makes stats totally easy. No tests, just have to do the homework. If you go to class and do the homework, easy A.
He is a stickler and full of himself.
The class material is time consuming but the outline is given to you. I am very detailed, so its not an issue for me when he wants the work done his way. He makes the class interesting. The homework is graded a little inconsistently. However, you can approach him with questions and he will have the homework regraded.
The most energetic professor I've ever seen, dedicating an amazing amount of time to those students of his who work hard at the material. Clarity in writing and lecture is fantastic.
Really smart and informative. You have to go to class though and work hard to get an A
I felt like I was really challenged and appreciate that I had the opportunity to learn with such a passionate professor.
He's really fair about regrading, since his TAs do all of it (somewhat inconsistently) and the only grades in his class are the HW. You really need to pay attention to details in this class & it's a piece of cake.
Pay attention to detail and you'll do fine in this class.
If you want to be graded on a backwards curve, take his class. It was unclear that receiving a 77% in his class would warrant me a D, and that extra credit would not count whatsoever. He was unhelpful and even upon contacting him during the semester, he would never respond. Never again!
I never worked so hard to fail a class. Grades extremely harsh on grammar, punctuation and context. Nothing on calculations themselves. He needs to be kicked off his soap box.
Yes this class is extremely difficult, BUT if you follow Coolidge's outlines there is no reason you can't get an A in this class. Attendance is a must! No test but your entire grade is based off homework. He grades extremely hard but if you work hard it will pay off!!
Grading is completely inconsistant, you never know what you will miss off for. I have never worked so hard in my life for a B. You can have all the math right and completely understand the point and get the just of the assignment and still fail over ridiculous things. Also he is obsessed with himself and brags all of the time!
Surprised by how hard it is to have correct grammar for the write ups. The math is easy. No tests. Can be a little self absorbed but I will be too when I have a PhD. There is a list of what points you lose for what on his page so you can prepare yourself. Definitely a lot of work.
Coolidge can be tough if you are not willing to put all your effort into your homework. All you really have to do, is do exactly as he says and don't think you can leave out a comma if he tells you to put one in. No tests. Not too bad overall.
Like he always says, "Can you be flexible?". If you follow the directions an A can be simple! He is a very intelligent man and his teaching skills are awesome. It's a college class, he expects that you are knowledgeable enough to follow directions
Loved this class! I thought Dr. Coolidge was a great teacher, full of humor and passion. When you take this class, definitely be OCD about your homework and triple check it. There's no tests and only about 7-10 homework assignments.
He is dryly boring and is hard to approach with questions.
Great professor, very passionate & knowledgable. However, he does not take the time to help you when needed; no email response nor availability during office hours. VERY hard grader on homeworks, he TRIES to find things to dock you for. Only class I received less than an A in...
Coolidge is no doubt an intelligent guy who knows what he's talking about, however, he's more interested in following protocol rather than encouraging actual learning. He (or his TAs) are ridiculously tough graders about pointless things. I failed the first few homework assignments because he thought I didn't capitalize the letter F in an F score.
Fred is an OCD kind of guy, who lives to tell people you will fail unless you are his mindless robot (or Frankenstein in his words). The book is key-- he wrote it so. His TA's will help, and one is there pretty early before class which is nice. Fred, though, also LOVES to brag about the things he has done. So, get ready for an OCD, bragging man.
Good teacher, very passionate. However if he doesn't believe your question is valid he will attack you for asking it. Strict grader. The worst part for me is that he continually uses the word 'retard' and 'retarded' it's offensive and repulsive. He has degraded the school of nursing here at UCCS during his lectures too. Just a rude man.
Hes rough, if you don't follow his rules he sets you will not pass. The book is a must. If you follow the exact steps that are in the book you will be fine. Grammar is a must he goes coma crazy. Hes a good professor though, and slightly crazy. No tests so homework is your entire grade the final is 13 of your entire grade don't procrastinate!
Dr. Coolidge is a great professor. He is very specific with how he wants assignments done, but if you do them that way there is no reason to not get an A. He frequently uses humor and self-depricating stories to put you at ease with learning statistics.
He is so hard to pass, very strict standards and unclear
Prepare to fail! Unless you do absolutely every little thing he asks. The grade is based on homework, and he looks for stuff to knock you off for, by the end of the semster i was spending hours on homework so he wouldn't give me an F on it. Has to be PERFECT. This takes a lot of effort to pass. Attendance MANDATORY. The upside is he's kinda funny.
Grading is ridiculous and tough. He is full of himself and talks about nothing but his own accomplishments. I will never take another class with him.
Taught the class very well, and made it less horrible to be taking a summer class. His tests were very fair, and as long as you read the book you were fine for the problems. Finished the class with a fairly complete knowledge of statistics.
At one point I was unable to complete a quiz on time because of some personal issues, he allowed me to retake it no questions asked. I then had enough points for a B+, according to the syllabus, but he entered a B for my final grade. After contacting him he changed my final grade to an A-. He was very kind and helped me out a lot in nursing stats.
He acts as though he's untouchable because of his tenure status. I asked a question regarding his grading and his response was very condescending. Very strict grader, full of himself, has favorites. Avoid him if you can!!
I was two minutes late to class, handed him my homework where he just wrote a big zero on it. He is a good professor but he is ridiculously tough and you're going to have to be able to adhere to his strict regime in order to pass otherwise just take the class online because he will NOT cater to any of his students.
probably the worst prof i've taken so far. tough grader, very condescending. good luck!!!!
I absolutely loved Coolidge! He wants what he wants but as long as you follow his guidelines you'll be fine! Very intelligent and charismatic teacher, somehow made me look forward to a 8am class.. which is very rare for me!
Coolidge is a very strict prof, but he is definitely the best prof I've ever had! Don't skip any classes and pay attention, and you'll pass the class. Coolidge is very funny and entertaining to listen to. Avoid taking an early class with him! I would recommend this prof to anyone!
Professor Coolidge is very specific with want he wants. You only get homework in this class, no tests. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss more than two classes you will fail. Pay attention in class and you will do fine. He tells you exactly what he wants!! Easy if you follow direction.
A lot of people dislike him because he's strict. He is very, very clear about what he wants from you. Literally all you need to do to pass his class is follow his instructions. Do what he says and you'll pass - it's simple. Also, if you feel the TA made a mistake grading your HW, he's great about giving it another look & giving you points back.
The only thing you have to do to pass is do what is expected of you and use your resources. He is a tough grader but he is very clear on what he expects and he is very understanding. The TAs are ALWAYS available and you'd be stupid not to utilize them. There is no memorization. Just take good notes and read when he tells you to. It helps so much.
Ridiculously strict attendance policy which he fails to follow. Miss 3 classes: you're automatically failed. But he missed 3 consecutive classes for a convention. More than 5 minutes late? Counted absent. He interrupts the class to tell you that being late is an interruption. -5 points for literally every tiny mistake. Even spelling. In STATISTICS
Definitely recommend taking this course in class and not online. Coolidge is tough but he clearly lets everyone know what he wants and if you're stubborn and like to challenge the teacher on stuff, then you'll probably have a hard time. He walks students through what to do and makes things understandable. If you take good notes, then you'll pass.
Overall grading scale is different than typical classes, 74.99% and below is failing. He grades extremely strictly!! I have only been marked off once for my mathmatical errors and the rest has been for spelling, grammar, word choice and other things that should not matter in a MATH class. No clear grading scale at all for the homeworks.
He is literally the worst person I have ever met. His TA's are terrible at grading and he's so rude and condescending towards everyone. He is very full of himself and makes his students feel bad about themselves because so many people don't do well in his class. Overall 0/10 would not recommend him for ANY class.
This man is arrogant and does not approach math intellectually (he should stick to psychology). He has written his own textbook and is not moderated at all by the university. He creates his own rules and has no love for educating his students. If fellow mathematics teachers observed his work, they would not be impressed.
Fred is able to teach the class well, knows the material (even wrote the book). There are no tests, only homework which is GRADED BY THE TA's. He will help you gain some missed points if the TA's graded too harshly which they will. As long as you are flexible with what he wants to see on the homework (correct symbols, grammar, etc.) you will be ok
He's very detailed oriented on the homework for the smallest things you could lose 50points for such as not correctly drawing a capital letter F.
When he walks through the door, the breeze flows through his luscious hair like a Calvin Klein model; wafting the delicious scent of his sexy sandalwood cologne. He greets the class with a voice like melted chocolate and toasted coconut. His arm veins ripple as he boasts his intellectual prowess. You will learn to treasure every moment with him.
The class content is pretty straightforward. The problem is that the homework is graded ridiculously hard, you can lose points over the smallest things. Just follow what he says and you should be ok and work with the people around you. Show up to class b/c if you miss more than 2 you will fail. Also read the book, and just be flexible for the class
He is an extremely harsh grader. I missed a lot of points on one of the big homework assignments and found out I was going to fail. I emailed him about it and agreed to meet, however, he never emailed me back. I went up to him after class and tried to talk to him and he didn't really answer and just walked away. He never emailed me back.
Excelling in this class is as simple as putting in the time and effort, doing what he clearly expects of you, and being detail-oriented and meticulous with your work. If you slack off and don't go to class or put in the time, then yes, you will not do well in the class. He offers a ton of extra credit so do that and you'll be fine.
He is passionate about what he teaches but his grading criteria is terrible. He will deduct more points than an assignment is worth. He does give you the chance to go over the homework with him to see if you can get points back though. If you are close to passing he will work with you to get the grade up, even during finals week.
He is a very hard teacher that teaches a very hard class, but he is actually a very nice guy that will only put as much effort into you as you put into his class. I failed his class but at very little fault of his own. Only complaints would be the turn around on grading times for homeworks. Sometimes you turn in stuff before you receive assignments
Theyll dock points on the homework any chance they get. Also he has his TAs grading, and sometimes what they ask for is a complete opposite of what he asks for. Generally a pretty good rule just to go with what the TAs say, usually theyll send an email reminding everyone how they want a specific assignment done.
I am currently taking his psych stats class for my minor and even though the information is interesting, Coolidge makes me very angry. He is good at explaining the material, but as a grader he is harsh. As a person, our morals collide. For example, he took a student to the dean which was a dramatic act after the situation that was at hand.
I took Psy 1100: Professions of Psy with Fred. He has other professors come in each week to teach on their specialty. But, it was for the best because the couple times Fred taught it was hard to understand what he was teaching and follow the lectures. You have 2 exams and a couple other assignments so there are not many grades, but it's an easy A.
He is a very laid back guy that looks teaching stats and psychology. His TAs were helpful as well. The criteria was clear and he told you everything you needed to do for an A in the class. I actually learned something too! Do not skip class, you have been warned. There were no tests, just homework. I would definitely take it again with him.
I took professions with Coolidge and while the class itself was very easy, it was extremely boring. There are two exams and (I believe) 2 other assignments in the whole class. Overall an easy A, but tedious and difficult to study for.
Heard high praises about Coolidge in the past, so I took his online statistics course. His grading rubric does not match up to the grading on Canvas (his is waaay harder). On Canvas I had a C, but according to his rubric I had an F! Thats just to put into perspective how hard he grades. Make sure to look at the SYLLABUS to keep track of points
Don't miss a single class! Try to develop a solid relationship with Dr. Coolidge if you want to do well in this class. Don't wait until mid-semester to seek for help. No exams but requires an average of 3hrs per homework assignment. Purchase the scientific calculator the he recommends. Be aware of the La-sha joke, your spelling and FATAL ERRORS!!
Coolidge is rude and demeaning to students. Unless you have a 100% in his class he will treat you with disrespect. If you miss the class more than twice you automatically fail. There are homework assignments that are worth massive points. There is no final but one massive assignment in the end. He is not usually accessible outside of class.
Coolidge is great! Had a medical emergency halfway through the year and he was completely understanding of my situation. Literally, for stats all you had to do was exactly as he said and you would pass. If you didn't listen to him just be prepared for harsh grading it's literally not that hard just do as he says and you're good.
He's tough on you, he expects you to work hard. Coolidge also helps you every step of the way. He wants it done his way, and if you do, you are rewarded. He is very thorough. His life experience and career experience is invaluable. I wish all professors were as invested in our learning as he is. Don't let him scare you at first, it will be ok!
While it is obvious that he knows what he is talking about, I still had a hard time following his lectures since he does like to talk about personal things frequently. Homework is all you are really graded on, he wants things a certain way and you can be and will be docked for the smallest errors.
Crazy specific on what he wants done, and he will doc you on the smallest things on the homework. No tests just homewor, but the homework is worth major points. Just listen in class, read the textbook (easy read) and listen to his specifics and you'l be fine. Also, GO TO CLASS you miss 2 classes or half of two classes and you fail. Great professor.
Fred is the best. Just follow his rules & expectations EXACTLY as demonstrated & you'll be fine. He's a nice & funny dude, but he is very particular. Listen to his instructions. All of the points in the class are based off of homework assignments (no tests) & he shows you how to do the assignments step by step in class.
I went into this class afraid he was going to be really rude because of all the things I heard about him. But he's actually really nice and respectful. Don't believe in every bad thing you read on this site. He's a tough grader and do exactly what he wants. As long as you are flexible you'll do fine. <--- he says this all the time. He cares a lot.
His online Abnormal Psych class is set up very nicely in that there are only 2 quizzes a week based on chapter readings. This makes the class seem relatively easy, he provides two practice quizzes before each quiz as well as flashcards to help you prepare. However, many of the questions on his quizzes are repetitive, poorly worded, and irrelevant.
This class was fun and incredibly informative. Dr. Coolidge is fun and engages students as he lectures. There is a quiz each week, which if you read and do the practice tests prior, are an easy A. Loved this prof and the course!
UCCS doesn't give A+ or I would have put that as my grade as I got a 98% without any extra credit. Coolidge wrote the Stats book and it's incredibly easy to follow and do the quizzes each week. The directions in the book are like stats for babies, he makes it so simple anyone can do it. I nerded out and really enjoyed taking this class.
Your grade is 15 quizzes, and that's it. The textbook is filled with typos and a lack of explanation, which makes teaching yourself really difficult. He is impossible to reach and won't respond to any emails. He makes the work wayyyy more difficult and complex than it should be to learn how to do simple stats.
Fred is very nice and smart, but the hardest grader Ive ever had. You must copy write ups word for word out of his textbook and if you forget a single word its 50pts off each time you dont write it. He is not flexible with grading and anything below a 75 youre failing. I am a A student across all my classes and he failed me.
The textbook (that he wrote) is full of errors. He doesnt grade based on right answers. Miss a period or comma you get docked 50 points. Spell one word wrong, another -50 points. He doesnt care if you know the material he cares how well you can copy from the book and lectures verbatim. The actual math is the least important part of the class.
Fred knows his stats. He teaches things SO clearly. The people who did not do well in his class simply couldn't follow instructions. He laid out step by step how to do each computation, and even emphasized what grammar points were important. To do well in this class, just laugh & follow his instruction step by step. He definitely focuses on details
Coolidge took over for my PSY honors stats class and did so flawlessly. He is a kind teacher with VERY straightforward instructions. Rumors say that he is a "hard ass" but once you actually take one of his courses it's clear that those rumors were from people that are unable to follow directions, and frankly, lacked the aptitude for statistics.
I got an A, so I know that it's possible to do well, but he makes it very difficult. He has a very high opinion of himself and his way of teaching and is unforgiving of any mistakes. I didn't feel like he respected his students and considered changing majors just so I wouldn't have to take his class.
Anyone I have ever met who likes his teaching is oblivious to how badly he treats his students. Unless you treat him like a superior, he does NOT care about you. It is a lot more telling of a professor to see how he helps those who are confused and he blames students for not understanding. Worst teacher I have ever had.
Fredrick is a GREAT professor. Yes, he is a tough grader, but he always show where the mistakes are made on the homework. He has himself and great TAs to help you be successful in the class. The textbook he required in the class is HEAVLY used, and its written by him. Everything you need to know is in the textbook for quizzes and homework.
This class was taken online, which I highly recommend. Lots of negative feedback from peers who took the in-person lecture class. The textbook is essential, especially if math is not your strong suit. A condensed course, 2 chapters & quiz a week. Take the time to do the computation examples. Time management is imperative to success in this class.
Took class twice and almost passed the first time. Grading scale is very different 75 is passing but below and your done for. Took the class in person the first time and found the online class was WAY easier and the quizzes simple. TAKE IT ONLINE!
I'm not sure Prof C is just radically different in-person, but his online lectures are captivating and easy to understand. The quiz questions come straight from the questions at the end of each chapter of the book and the book itself is very easy to comprehend. I am awful at math, yet found this course and its concepts incredibly easy thanks to him
I don't know what to say. This online class was less than beneficial. He seemed like he would be great in person... I have zero idea what being taught. Make a friend do the online quizzes together. Awful. But an A. Now what for the next stats class. Terrified as I have no idea what happened in this class.... Beware.
I love the stories that Prof. Coolidge shares during his lectures -- really helps in remembering the content!
Prof Coolidge is a fantastic professor who enjoys the subject and thoroughly enjoys when teaching his courses. I have a computer science background, but I took evolutionary neuropsychology and abnormal psychology under him, and I did not want to miss any lectures. I absolutely would take more courses with him.
Very inconsistent. Rude and demeaning. Expects you to know things he never taught. Entire grade based on a few assignments. Did I say inconsistent?
