if you have to/want to take a psc class go somewhere else! i have never had a teacher as bad as this one. i don't know how to explain what makes him sooo bad, but it is just everything he does. it is too late for me, but you still have the chance to take a good class.
Gives out a TON of work - he seems to think students are taking only one class (his). Overreactor about plagerism. Tests are extremely hard.
Whoa! I am very surprised at some of these comments. I had Prof. Monardi last semester and I thought he was one of the best professors I had at CCSN. He does expect a lot, but you also learn a lot.
His mannerisms, his tone of voice, his reactions to student questions and his overall character make it very hard to learn from him. He does not motivate, and of all the professors I have had he is the absolute worst. Do NOT sign up for one of his classes!!
he is very rude to students
Two or three students always complained for no good reason and it sounds like they are writing this smack. Everyone else in the class thought he was good or great.
weird sense of humor, high expectations, very helpful, specific...of course, not a very socail person you would say but is accessible, and has a passion for the subject teaching. hes a good teaxcher overall with a few rough edges.
AWESOME!!! The BEST experience I've had at CCSN. His PSC 101 is really interesting, and you will have a wealth of knowledge after taking this class, but you must be willing to LEARN and apply yourself. Very enjoyable professor!
Mr. Monardi not only knows what he is talking about, he's passionate about it. I wanted to drop from this class during the first couple of months because I thought it was difficult but I'm so happy I didn't, not just because I needed the credits, but because I learned so much about the subject and then some. Trust me, you'll be proud of yourself.
he is the worst teacher i have ever had in my life. It was so horriblei even dropped his class.. Usually i tough classes out but just his precence made mad. He was the rudest teacher, and he treats you like your a child i am sorry but we are allin college
To commend him, he doesn't spout off his personal political beliefs. His tests are moderately hard, multiple choice and 1 essay but they're not too bad if you study. It helps if you show up and take notes. Requires a 6-8 pg term paper. He is a stickler when it comes to somebody trying to make up an exam. Kind of boring at times.
This is an internet course: 4 credits so there are a lot of assignments, studying, tests and quizzes. Monardi is a little crude and thinks all students are stupid high schoolers. But if you take his online class there really is not much contact and insulting comments become avoidable. I would recommend his online class.
Very Professional. Expected liberal offal but was educated instead. It would be folly to bet on his political party. Subject matter,at times, can cure insomnia but he managed the class in such a way as to get through such times quickly and efficiently. For those seeking an education, I highly recommend his class.
Okay teacher. the classs was not difficult but very boring. His teaching style comes off as being aimed towards highscoolers. His behavior can seem rude at times and decent at others. Not a bad teacher but not a great one. This one is average. You could do much better, and much worse. Be warned of his demeanor, it seems condescending attimes
Overall, I think he was rude and condenscending at times. I agree with other students that he teaches more on the high school level rather than college. I think for the amount of work he gives we should have been show some consideration but he did not care. Out of my professors he was one of the hardest. I would consider taking a different prof
Took this class online, there was alot of work, alot! Tests were multiple choice and were hard even with the book in front of me. I did get an 'A' but it wasn't easy. He did allow for a second try on the quizzes and tests and the grades were averaged between the two of them.
I thought I was not going to like this class, but Professor Monardi made it interesting. Take good notes in class. The material he really emphasizes are usually on the exams.
I loved him. He got on top of tabels reciting quotes from Adams. He made 4 hours of class seem like 1 hour on a Friday night. He was very easy to understand. True, there might be a lot of work but you learn a lot!!!!
he was very rude .no positive reinforcement if we did good or got good grades .he thins that if i got good grade is because his questions were not hard enough.i did not enjoy his class
While Professor Monardi is hard, you learn a lot! I have never had to work so hard in my life. But, I enjoyed the discussion topics, writing the short papers, and the readings. YOU MUST DO ALL THE READINGS IN ORDER TO PASS THE EXAMS! As long as you stay on top of the workload an A is possible!
Took his class in the summer, and all in all it was a good experience. Professor Monardi was fair, reasonable, helpful, and organized in every way. You get two chances per test, and only have to do 10 out of 14 assignments. Discussion topics were interesting too. I have no complaints about his class and am very glad to have taken it.
I took this class online and thought it was very easy. All it is, is discussing your views on his weekly political questions that are posted on the discussion board. quizzes are very easy also.
Took class online, was not hard as long as you work and study. Quizzes and tests are a little tricky, but you can get by if you study. Even online you need to study because you won't have enough time to look up answers. Prof. also responded to our concerns and questions. Went beyond what he could have.
This class was difficult but enjoyable. I learned a lot and the instructor was great. He was very helpful and he kept the class involved. I highly recommend taking PSC 101 with Professor Monardi!
Took online and it was a pretty easy class, but qith alot of writing. I did not like the small book "Clued into Politics" that we had to write our papers from..it was a collection of opinion articles...overall, not bad..would recommend Prof. Monardi
He was not a good professor and didnt learn anything from his class. He doesnt really know about politics he just reads it in a book
Good class. You will learn a lot. Fairly high expectations on papers. Professor has a dry sense of humor that some students did not understand.
never take him!! it's the worst class and teacher i've ever had. it's more difficult than any other senior leel class. it's not 101!!! he's also so rude. online class has unlimited work. i hate this class
Don't take his on-line class. This is the WORST!!!! There are too much things to do and his expectation is too high. Plus he is RUDE!!! He thinks he teaches at Stanford or Harvard.
I'm taking the class in person and he is not so bad. He has his powerpoints online along with review sheets to help you study. Before a test, he will give you a paper on what you need to know. As long as you come to class and pay attention to the powerpoints, you will do fine. He's not difficult and wants to help you so disregard other comments.
Professor Monardi's class was Tough. He is knowledgeable and he is an excellent lecturer, but he does not give A's hardly at all. Be prepared for hours of reading and writing. He reminds me of an east coast professor. HIGH EXPECTATONS
This was one of the better online classes I have had even though there was a lot of work. There were a few students who would not read the announcements or instructions and then complain on the discussion board. I thought the Professor was patient with them.
I liked that we used the I-Clicker in the classroom. It helped in reviewing material. If too many got the answer wrong, the professor would go over it again
This is a labor-intensive class - lots of reading and writing, but it's a well-structured class. The assignments do a great job of reinforcing the lessons and makes you think about them instead of just reading and answering some multiple-choice questions. Be ready to work, but it's well worth the effort if you're serious about Political Science.
Fun class uses a lot of online tools and programs. Sucks that you can't sell the book back. took online summer course, pretty intense with reading, but not unreasonable. He allows you to have an opinion as long as it has substance. Take the class it's great! But do the study guides! the multiple choice exams online are tough
He uses powerpoints which you must take notes because there things he says not in the book. Read the book. He is enthusiastic. No papers. Attend class. Reasonable teacher. You must work for your grade though.
I took this class online. It is a lot of work. There are a lot of assignments and the reading is necessary in order to do well. This is a class you have stay up on, you cannot be lazy while taking it or you will not do well.
You will work for your grade in this class. Must attend and Read book along with Power points.. Helpfull to print them out. Never Gives his oppinion, if you have a comment he'll ask you to back it up, and why? Hitler when taking test. He watches like a hawk. If your late you will get points marked off. Don't use your phone or you will pay the price
This 8 week online class was really hard. If you do all the study guides and take notes you can do well on quizzed and test. Start early on assignments. Answer all questions thoroughly and you will get a good grade. Also don't slack on any of the discussions. I learned a lot about politics. Great class!!
This is not a fly by class. Don't expect to pass just by glancing through the material. I took the online course thinking it was going to be easy, NOPE! Must do the internet activities as well as give a thorough opinion on discussions. 2 quizzes and 2 tests. He gives several many assignments and takes the highest score from so many. Be PREPARED!!!!
Good Teacher, did online course be prepared to read a LOT! Make sure you give well thought out answers to all assignments and discussion post. Make sure you read ALL of the material and do the study guides. I passed the class, but could've done better but I slacked a little.
slow on rating homework, boring class
Never clear. Rambles a LOT..for the final he didn't give us any sort of study guide or advice, just "potential" questions. He doesn't care if you pass or fail. As he told our class "GPA doesn't matter in the workforce." BAD professor.
Interesting class. Learned a lot, but you need to take really good notes and keep up with the readings. Very helpful during office hours or email.
I loved this class, but then again I love politics. Dr. Monardi has you complete 5 papers between 300-500 words which is so short and easy! I love that he posts current news articles so we can comment and get credit. Each comment earns you 4 points and once you hit 60 points, you don't have to comment on additional posts. This class is great.
He is horrible. Just rambles on and on and doesnt help people that dont know much about politics out.
I enjoyed the class, but I don't think the papers were that easy. He is pretty tough grader, but the comments were helpful in writing the future papers. Need to study more for this class than most other classes.
overboard on homework
Beware unless you have a medical issue your not allowed to leave class, he completely rambles on makes not a lot of sense doesn't give examples doesn't make the class enjoyable.... Your best to find another teacher. He's horrible.
The grading is ridiculous on any paper which he assigns. Make sure to put forth an unnecessary amount of effort on your first essay or he will consistently give you low marks. One of the worst experiences with a professor that i have ever had. Avoid him like the plague.
Interesting class. I had to study harder for this class more than others, but exams were fair and he does hint at potential essay questions.
Tough teacher, posts notes that pretty much has nothing to do with exams. must study hard to pass. dropped it on the first week because i didn't like his teaching skills. I would never recommend him
The key to getting a good grade in this class is; be humble. The class is really busy, Although the key to success is setting aside your opinions and exploring other opinions in your writing.
One of the worst teachers I've taken. As a PSC major he gave me the worst grade I've ever got on an essay. He comments on things that are questionable, marking you down for what he feels is right, even though the essay is based on our thoughts! ridiculous! And there is a bunch of reading. Take someone else if you can. Life will be simpler
Monardi is definitely one of the hardest professors I have ever taken. It is near impossible to get a good grade on an essay. However, he does post study guides and will email you back if you have questions. I have a love/hate relationship with this class because he does challenge you to develop a different opinion, but the essays are brutal.
Tough class but interesting. You need to take good notes and read the book. He is very willing to answer questions on email or during office hours. Has a dry sense of humor that a lot of students don't get.
This guy has no idea how to teach political science. He doesn't know political science, he is a slave to his texts. It's pretty simple to get a good grade in his class, do the readings and remember them thoroughly. If you're looking for an insightful, opinionated class, this is far from it. Very dry and useless class. The book lectured, not him.
professor Monardi is a horrible instructor! He can be very rude and treats his students like they are in high school. he often times rambles about nothing, forgets what he is talking about, and says "whatever" at least 100 times during a lecture. he is not passionate about it and often seems unsure of what he is talking about. worst professor ever!
Definitely not a blow off class but not impossible either. Take good notes and read the book. Write the examples or explanations he gives, not just what’s on the power points.
Unlike High School Civics, you will actually learn something in this class.
Worst Teacher EVER. He used verbal pauses after every other word. Never seemed to know what he was talking about. Lectures were pointless to go, never learned anything there. The course it's self was easy if ur an independent learner. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CLASS, YOULL REGRET IT. Im so upset w/this class that I will be writing his chair.
Professor Fred Monardi Just to let everyone know watch your spelling and grammar he grades like a English Professor.
Do not take this course with this professor! He gives you so much work, each week around 2 pages and gives you study guides every week that have nothing to do with the actual tests or exams. You will have to put in a lot of time into this class its not an easy course to pass. If I could go back I would have chosen a different professor.
I had to spend 20-25 hours a week on this course to get an A. I did learn a lot, but there is a fair amount of writing involved. Study guides help you focus on what's going to be on the test. And you do have to study for those. The best thing about this class is that the instructor did not grade based on one's political opinions.
Monardi expects objectivity from his students. Like a previous student said, humble yourself. Expect to spend 20-25 hours a week with this class. If you are looking for an easy A, look else where. If you want to learn, take Monardi. This class is excellent so far.
I dreaded this class because I do not like politics, at least the politics you see on TV. But that is not how the class was. It helped you think about some issues a little differently. So I will not believe that politics on TV anymore. Professor Monardi has a sense of humor, but you have to listen carefully for it.
Good with his teachings overall but he is to concerned about what the individual people in class are doing I spoke to him one on one and he talked down to me as if he was better than I If you get up to throw something away in the middle of class or leave early he will be very rude about it wouldnt recommend unless you can read the text covertocover
Took the summer class and I studied 20 - 30 hours a week. It was a lot of work, but you're in college so suck it up. I loved it. Learned a lot and I'm disappointed that I can't take Monardi for Comparative Politics (I'm a geology major). I really earned my A.
Fred is a wonderful professor. If you're looking for an easy class then look elsewhere. You will be required to do a lot of reading.
Fred is a nice guy but I don't like his way of teaching. He tends to ramble a lot, and skips a lot of important information.
Overall, the class sessions were interesting, but can drag occasionally. I did not do well on my first paper, but he gave a lot of comments and then I did better on the next ones. So make sure you follow his comments!
He walks out of class when students ask him questions.
This class is not for slackers, if you're looking for an easy grade, look elsewhere. Professor Monardi, is a great professor, but if you don't want to learn then this is not the class for you!
Good class
DO NOT TAKE! Let me put it this way, its like asking a dungeons and dragons master to explain his deck... yeah. He is very passion it about his craft but you will never understand what he is talking about. Also: This teacher is also EXTREMELY moody. Dedicated hours of time researchingstudying for this class and finished with a "C"
If you ever want to make strong political arguments (Facebook doesn't count) that doesn't make you sound like a fool, this is the class for you. He gives precise and honest feedback and exposes students to various mediums of media. His expectations are laid out clearly. It's a nice relief to write papers based on substance rather than format.
I really enjoyed this class, Professor Monardi is very entertaining, and helpful if you ask him for help. This class is not for slackers, you have to read your book, and use the study guides he provides. Good class, would take again.
Really enjoyed this class. Professor Monardi is funny, and very helpful.
5 research papers, 3 quizzes, 3 exams, & lots of reading. Students can print off the notes, which helps. He goes off his notes & what he says in lecture for quizzes & exams. Study past quizzes too! The 5 papers really suck! You will need both books, which I have for sale on craigslist for cheaper than the book stores. Good Luck!
Passionate about politics. Not the best fitted to teach about the topic though. Prepare to be taught by Monardi as if you are already are an expert on the subjects; if you have any questions, most of the time he will brush it off, tell you to look it up on your time off, or simply say "whatever." Grades like an English professor on exams & papers
Good professor, would take again.
He really seems to like being in the classroom and helping during office hours or by email. Make sure to read the feedback on papers. He likes really specific examples in the papers.
This is by far the worst class I have taken. I submitted a paper early February and it is now the end of March and he has yet to grade it! He is not clear with his instructions on exams, and quize's. Does not respond to emails. Grades too hard. Has something due every other day. I feel so lost, I wish I would of take a different instructor.
Is not clear in any lectures he does. Unfortunately he does not stay on topic. Strays away and talks about irrelevant things. Also if you like to be graded on a rubric that he gives you and expect to get a good grade even if you do exactly as the rubric states your wrong you will get a c at the most. 4+ tests. 6 essays. Let the confusion begin.
I did not think I would like political science, but it was more interesting than I thought. Professor Monardi has a lot of enthusiasm for the subject. The I-Clicker is helpful for reviewing material. Also very helpful during office hours.
Assigns several short papers. Read paper instructions carefully. You have to talk about the readings in the essays. Just don't say random stuff.
This class was structured as a hybrid class. The in portion lecture was A COMPLETE waste of time. His lectures are extremely boring, he goes completely off topic, and does not provide good information for test and quizzes. You are better off taking this class online. He seems to know the material he is just terrible at presenting it. 4 quizzes
Fred Monardi loves his subject... unfortunately, he doesn't understand that many in PSC101 are only there because "they have to be." He knows political science and teaches it like a 200 or even 300 class. Very passionate and quirky. Be ready to read and to write... I personally loved his class.
Professor did not seem to push a political agenda, although he seemed skeptical of the Tea Party.
I can only speak for his online course. Super easy. You write 5, one page papers for the semester and three exams. there are discussion topics due twice a week, but they are simple. There is plenty of reading required but overall not a huge workload. Teacher is not very good about getting back to you on questions and graded assignments.
Pretty good professor, has a tendency to ramble off topic sometimes but laid back and helpful. No homework but a lot of reading from the book and modules.
2 quizzes/2 exams/1 bibliography/1 paper. Attendance is graded, so you have to show up. Lectures are kind of pointless, he rarely uses the lecture to develop test questions. If you do the time-consuming study guides for each module, you'll be completely prepared for quiz/test. A bit of reading but if you just get through it the tests are very easy.
One of the best professors that I have had at CSN. Exams were a mix of essays and multiple choice.
The class: 8 Internet Activities for a max of 30 points ea. Also, Discussion Boards for a max of 4pts each, max earned 60pts. Both add A LOT of reading AND research. 2 Quiz (60pts ea)/2 Exams (150pts ea) with Lockdown Browser software. He adds new work unexpectedly with a few days for completion. Practice test pts do not count towards grade.
This was the worst online class that I've ever taken. I understand that regardless if you're an in-class student or if you learn everything online that there is going to be a workload that follows. But this teacher's grading is ridiculous and unreasonable. I have never failed an essay assignment before and was given horrible grades.
He's a very tough grader! Wish I would've taken a different class. Much readings and both quizes and exams are hard!!!
The worst professor I've ever had. I recommend any of you to not take this professor at all! I learned nothing from his class. If anything all I learned from him was that all he talks about is himself & how he considers himself a cheese head. He cracks jokes which are most of the time very offensive & does not care at all about his students. Shame.
Make sure you take good notes in class, not just the power points. I was angry at my first paper grade but after I took his suggestions and carefully read the paper instructions, I really did improve my ability to make a political argument.
One of the best classes I have taken at CSN. I was a little worried because I did not know very much about politics. But the professor explains material well and responds to emails. Need to study and take your time on papers. His humor is subtle.
I took this during the election. While we did not ignore talking about Clinton and Trump, I thought it was interesting that he wanted to focus more on the political system itself and less on personality. Make sure you take good notes in class! Do the readings!
Professor is enthusiastic and interesting. From class sessions and writing the papers (which I hated at first) I do think this class helps you think a little more critically. Take good notes in class and make sure you give examples in your papers.
Does not know how to be good teacher and listen to his students.
He responded to my questions in a timely manner but the readings were a bit much. Heavy work load and A LOT of reading. Very nice respectable teacher and is willing to help his students but prepare yourself to read.
Sometimes tests on details so play close attention when reading. Since my class was online reading was heavy. Get ready to participate in online class discussions. Several short paper assignments are given throughout. He is a tough grader but gives excellent feedback on how to improve your paper!
The class is more challenging than most classes I have had, but not impossible. But taking notes and reading is essential. Even if you miss one class, there is a lot of information. Replies pretty quickly and thoroughly to emails.
I liked there there was in depth analysis of the political system. It was more than just the usual depressing things on the news (although some discussion of that also). From my experience and talking to a few classmates, if you are putting an effort into the course, he is very willing to help. If you miss class a lot, he may not help as much.
If I had a question he was very quick to answer, but the work load seemed unnecessary sometimes. I felt like he nitpicked at my internet activities even though I did them exactly how he asked. Make sure to read the chapter word by word because if not, taking the tests will not make for a fun time.
He gives a ridiculous amount of work. I learned absolutely nothing in this class. His assignments are such a waste of time. It's just very over the top and I would never recommend anyone to take his class.
IF you do not put in the effort to apply yourself, then do not take this professor. You will only pass if you take the class seriously. He is a TOUGH grader. He is very helpful to his students, all you need to do is ask. I worked very hard for my A in his 8 week summer course. It was definitely a challenge but it's not impossible to get an A!
Monardi is alright, I mean theres nothing egregiously wrong with him he's just... there. 5 papers due, 2 pages each, they're not hard just time consuming. There's like 3 tests and I did well on them, I didn't study, but others weren't doing as well. If you have the option to get a better teacher or class go for it. Easyish class but long and boring
He was an okay teacher. The textbooks that he provides are basically your life in this class. You have too keep up with the readings or you'll fall behind. You have to study a lot and although I passed with a B, I worked really hard to get it. I would recommend to chose someone else if you could. If you chose him already, then good luck!
A great professor. A bit lecture heavy, but there were some good class discussions. There were some immature students who not only distracted the professor, but also annoyed other students.
One of the best professors I have had at CSN. You have to take notes and read the book. I missed one class and I missed a lot of information. Turnitin is used.
I just finished the 8 week summer class. The assignments and websites we looked at were interesting. There was a lot of writing, but there was some choice in assignments and discussions. Grades the work fairly quickly.
Took this class online just to get it out of the way. His grading wasn't too hard but you have to take the time to put in the work. He was kind of a fair grader but it just depends on how much work you put in. You will need to use the book though.
He frequently argued with students in his class. The class is easy to get left behind in and is very unforgiving when it comes to missing lecture/work. Seems to have some anger problems. Would recommend trying to get into another class. If not, good luck.
He has good energy!
He really reads your papers and gives you good feedback. He likes to see examples in the papers.
Clear, organized lectures with some discussions. Need to take notes. Need to read!
This professor explains course material very well. Exam and quiz questions are from class and the readings. There were a few papers to write. He provides feedback to improve future papers
I do not recommend this teacher. He is disorganized and rude. He requires you to download a special program on your computer that can not be downloaded on to school computers, ipads or lap tops. so if you are a student who relies on school computers, this is NOT the class for you. I can not believe I paid for this class.
Great teacher! He has 3 quizzes & 3 Exams throughout the semester. The exams consist of questions from the quiz and we do weekly kahoots in class which really help! He does not try to trick you, he tells you exactly what is on the test. Some took advantage of his kindness. Show up, study, & you'll exceed! Textbook is not really needed but helpful.
I had to study harder for this class than any other class except A & P. But now that the semester is over, I realized that I learned more in this class than most others. The humor is very subtle.
8 Week summer course was fast. The assignments were interesting though, even though. Professor responds quickly to emails.
I really enjoyed this class. I did not expect that at first. The professor is enthusiastic and explains material clearly. The weekly study guides help.
So much reading! The information on the study guides he provides does not reflect the questions on the quizzes and exams. Incorrect page numbers were posted in the modules throughout the semester, so I was often reading the wrong information. I would not take this professor again; he's curt, disorganized, and his tests are really difficult.
I was not happy with this class at first. The first couple of quizzes or exams are hard. But he gave great suggestions to improve. Listen to that. I appreciate how much I am learning now.
Goes off topic about politics so you dont know whats important. His study guides & notes have a lot info thats not even on the test. A lot of reading. You have to memorize 12 words but there are only 2 on the test & 3 essays but 1 is on the test. Grading system is so awful, many people were confused and upset. Pretty much busy work for no reason
this professor is very disorganized, hes always off topic. and every powerpoint is completely different from the textbook. when quizzes come you have no idea what to be studying for! he messed up the grading scale. he makes you remember 12 vocab words and only puts two on the test. would not recommend taking this professor.
Monardis class was alright and made me wish I took someone else but it was the only class available. His class wasnt an easy one and will only pass if you take it seriously. So much required reading and much of the test questions didnt reflect on study guides or lectures. I would recommend taking a different professor if you can.
Let me be as clear as possible hes not a bad tescher , but he definetly is a 0 in every other area. He goes off topic on lectures often making it difficult to single out whats important. He assigns a MOUNTAIN of reading. His study guides will help very little . Worse of all he is not the nicest guy socially (rude). However his papers areflexible
I had a very hard time following along with this class. His lectures made no sense because he would go off topic often. Butt ton of readings and study guides to answer that do not help you whatsoever on the test. When asking him to clarify something he would say to just drop the class instead of helping. 100% would not recommend this professor.
Professor Monardis syllabus is intimidating, He states that is best to not work while taking his class. That is how demanding his class is, his online class has 5 timed quizzes and 4 timed exams. 5 papers and weekly discussions, his study guides are extremely long for each chapter and go by the book. Be prepared to read and search for the answers.
I had this professor in the Spring. He was one of the few professors that prepared us for the shutdown. I was not happy it went online, but he started talking about what we would have to do if there was a shutdown. The transition was smooth in this class. Not in others.
I had this professor in the Spring, and though he wasn't my favorite professor, I really don't think he's as bad as some of the reviews claim. I did not like his politics nor having to do papers, but he was at least accessible and his exams were pretty easy so long as you read the book. The class at least served its purpose.
Interesting lectures. Need to take notes. When he would repeat something or really change his voice tone, that was a likely question on a test. Very helpful outside of class.
Good clear lectures. Nice guy. Helpful outside of class.
I would advise NOT to take this professor. EXTREMELY disorganized and not open to any questions. Always acts like you are bothering him. Hard to keep up in class as he is all over the place like hes on drugs. Strange person.
Great class. Lectures and discussions are organized. Take a lot of notes. More than just the power point slides.
I was struggling at first. Went to his office hours a few times and asked questions online. He was very caring and helpful. He did not think my questions were lame. Then I got the hang of it: how to study and approach the papers.
Lectures are very hard to follow, goes off topic a ton and I have absolutely no idea what he is talking about the majority of the time that I am there. Acts like everything bothers him whether you come to class a minute or two late or use your phone to take notes. There is always something more that I did not like walking into his class every week.
Fred Monardi is a very unprofessional instructor. He berates belittled and talks down to everyone. The purpose of a Professor is to mentor, instruct, lead. We students are paying a gigantic amount of money at College of Southern Nevada. No wonder CSN only has a 13% graduation rate. This was disgusting what I witnessed in this class.
Avoid this Professor Fred Monardi like the plague. Your on pins and needles everyday. Don't bother emailing or asking him anything at school because he will treat you like your beneath him. He has a ton of 1 stars. Trust me don't enroll with him
I had him this last spring. Tough at first, but I got the hang of it later. He responds to emails quickly and was helpful during office hours.
I took a hybrid course with this professor. Not many assignments but they are worth a lot of points making it harder to improve if you do not do well on one. He is very picky with his papers and does not let you redo any assignments. Lectures are long and hard to follow. He forgets that this is an intro course and we are learning new material.
If you do not turn in one paper you risk failing even if everything else is like 100%
So much reading and regurgitating boatloads of information on tests. My entire grade rested on memorizing random bits of info from the textbook. There was so much info that it made the class harder than it needed to be in my opinion. You're reading all by yourself and teaching yourself the concepts. He's very picky and critical with essays, too.
He assigns a lot of assignments that are worth a lot of points, and he expects you to be there but won't grade you on attendance. He also posts everything online in canvas, the readings and the slides present so much different information, and the tests itself require a lot of studying because he wont tell you exactly what is on the test.
He was pretty straight forward in his syllabus and grading rubric. Although the class was online and we never met on call or in person, Monardi quickly responds to emails within his office hours and majority of the time everything needed is already provided in his canvas posts! It is required to write 4 essays with 4 of the 10 essay topics hegives.
Mondari was the worst professor I have ever had. He asks you to write papers, but won't allow you to quote or paraphrase a source, which led to a lot of confusion on how we were suppose to use a source. He will mark you wrong if you use MLA formatting. I met with other students in this class and we were all struggling. Very unfriendly professor.
Unprofessional, unclear about what he wants from a paper. Lectures run off into tangents completely unrelated to the subject at hand. Exams are taken online and in-person, but the tests are based off of the textbook, so what's the point of attending his useless lectures? If you need to take this class, take it online, or find a different professor
Lowkey chill guy, he does lectures every day and makes little jokes here and there. Class isn't difficult especially if you come straight out of high school and did US Government cause it's exactly like it. The only assignments you'll have are 8 papers which you can choose 4 to do and quizzes/tests. He'll always answer your questions and emails.
Professor Mondardi responds quickly to emails and is kind. Unfortunately, this class was not for me as someone who really struggles with reading. If you love to read and can write really great papers, this class is great! He will humble you with your writing, though. His classwork formatting online is pretty clear and user friendly!
He treats us like we are in highschool still. We can't leave to use the restroom and he's very strict about the little insignificant things. It's all textbook based and he lectures the entire class. We have 4 papers due, but he doesn't let us quote anything but we need to have sources. Online quizzes but in person tests.
The lectures are engaging and the prof is approachable. Lots of reading, but using unstuck study alongside the textbook can make the workload manageable. Attendance is mandatory, but worth it to understand the material.
I really don't appreciate these rules: - Arrive 10 minutes late? You're absent and he'll condemn you in front of the class. - Need to leave mid-class for the bathroom? Nope. - Have a full-time job on top of school? Too bad. - Family death? Personal injury? Get ready to be investigated by a force rivaling the CIA, Professor Monardi.
A lot of people struggle with this class, but if you come out of high school having taken American Government you should be fine. Professor Monardi is a tough grader and makes you do the readings. As long as you pay attention (Which can be difficult at times as he talks a lot) and do the readings, you'll be fine.
Wouldn't take this class again. He often gets completely off topic. Your better off just reading the text than paying attention to his lectures.
The class that I took had clear cut instructions and assignments. Professor Monardi really emphasizes using and reading the syllabus. I rarely corresponded with him, but he had everything put together. Grading technique is hard to understand.
