Fred is the man, there is no doubt of this. I only wish I'd become a mathematician instead of an accountant.
He relates almost everything to beer or bars, it worked for me. Kinda dorky but if u study for tests you'll do fine.
I hate math and was scared to death of statistics and did great with Russel. He makes the material very clear and you know exactly what he wants from you for the tests. One has to basically attend every class, as the notes come straight from the blackboard. Take notes & study and you'll do good.
Very unhelpful and boring. Not a good teacher.

fun, cool guy, kinda dorky
His tests are exactly like his homework assignments. He explains everything very clearly and is very straight forward. He doesn't test you on information that he does not go over. He is an excellent math teacher.
All I have to say is BLAM, BLEEP, BLAM, BLEEP, cud Fred is the man that you want for math ppl. holla He loves beer and Ft. Liquordale
Great teacher. Had him for calc and now for stats. Not too hard if you pay attention and do your work. Not saying it's easy, you def have to work, but it's ok. Weird jokes, but keeps the class a little interesting...BLAM
Horrible teacher!!!! He is so boring and mean. He doesn't explain things well and does not like to answer questions.
Great teacher. Most people find him to be boring but he's cool. If you have trouble in the class talk to him, he will help you out. Im taking him again for Mth 1560..i would really recommend him.
Worst math teacher I've ever had in my life!! He was sooo boring and didn't care about his students at all. I could only pay attention for the first 15 minutes of class, after that i thought i was going to die of boredom!! If you want a teacher that keeps u interested in the subject..dont take him!!!!!!
I was scared to enter calculus, but with him it was easy. His tests were like the homework, and we hardly used the book, just take all the notes and you'll pass the class. His notes were easier than the book. Very dorky though! Blam!
He was a horrible teacher. One of the worst that I ever had. I fell asleep in his class a couple times because it was so boring. He is unhelpful. However, one good thing is that he writes everything down on the board. But, I had to study for 16 hours on one weekend for his test. It was a lot of work and I had to figure a lot out for myself.
WEIRD!!!!!!
I hate Math, I hate Math teachers, I surprisingly passed his class. It was very hard and he moves very fast, so if you struggle in math I dont recommend him, he is a little wierd, and tells jokes that arent funny alot of the time....felt bad for the guy
Math is easy for me so I don't have a problem with his teaching. But if you get bored easily like I do, keep a BLAM and BLEEP counter. The record so far is 12 BLAM's in forty-five minutes and 8 BLEEP's in an hour.

He's an awful teacher, I suggest anyone who is bad at math to not take him. He's unhelpful and he not only confused me but he confuses himself!!
teaches th esubject very well. Just show up for all the classes and do the homework and you can pass the class. He makes stats easy to understand. Weird sense of humor, Oh bleep! And then whatta ya know blame just like that its over!!
Take this professor if you struggle in math... he goes too much into detail its boring. i finished a problem by the time he just wrote it on the board. he writes EVERYTHING on the board.
the worst teacher i have ever had! he does not teach anything, makes you do some DUMB maple crap in the computer lab on your OWN TIME as if his class is the only one you have and your life revolves around it! He tells the same story every single class "back in his day, if you failed math you went to war" blah blah blah DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!
He is an excellent teacher. He explains everything very well and is very straight-forward. Easiest math class I have ever taken in my life. His class is boring, but he is a great teacher!

God have mercy on your soul if you make the mistake of signing up for his class. The Maple assignments suck and don't teach you anything. His tests are on the hard side...I never got anything higher than a B. My final grade was a B but I would not recommend him not unless you like hearing about Vietnam and having all the green clothes you want.
STAY AWAY from him if at all possible!!!! He wants to see people fail. gives everyone big lecture on how they need to have no life except for studying. wont meet with anyone in his office before/after class. wont let you use any notes for the final. Stay away, you have been warned!!! oh yea, and did i mention, NO PERSONLLITY whatsoever
He is very dull! he does know his math though! He writes every possible thing down on the bored so lotsssss of notes! I think he is an ok teacher I would not recommend him though! be prepared to hear the word BLAAAMM a whole lot!
He is definitely boring, but he teaches OK. Not in his office for office hour, will not his telephone during office hours. Cannot ask him anything while he is teaching--it does something to him (he is definitely strange) makes corny jokes, but you cannot comment on them. HEAVYFOOT.
Very unenjoyable class. He is a very boring and does not like questioned asked during class. He is not very helpful at all. He talks down to the class and repeats every sentance a least twice. His only good side is that his examples are very good and he basiclly writes your notes for you.
i am definiely not a math person but i thought he was a decent teacher. we got to use a notecard on every test. it was very fast paced because i took it in a summer session but he writes everything on the board and explains everything very well
Wierd-o but a good stats teacher. He writes everything down and explains everything well. He tells lame jokes and says the word BLAM way too much.. which actually makes the class funny at times. The class is boring overall but GO if you wanna pass.
he is boring, i had to take him for 3 different math classes because he was the only one that taught it at the time, now there are 3 different teachers that teach the maths, maple problems suck
His teaching style is a bit boring, but he does break everything down to the basic. He allows you to have a note card for the exam. Make sure you don't slack off because it's easy to get left behind because of his relaxed teaching style
worse teacher I have ever had. Gets annoyed when you go to him for help during office hours. Dare not ask a quetion during class he will not stop to explain it to you. You are expected to follow along silently. Not a goo teacher if you are struggling in math.
I did not have a problem with him as teacher. In high school I struggled with some of the topics that are gone over in this class. He does a good job breaking things down, and does not require much. Pay attention, come to class, do your homework, maple projects and study. Don't come to class late, drink/eat, or have cell phones on.
Professor Russell is an "old school" instructor. He stands and teaches the entire time. If you like this method than he is for you. He is lacking in social skills and sometimes seems weird or strange. However I will say he is super at math instruction and if you are in school to learn he is who you are looking for. Great Instructor!
He does a wonderful job at explaining everything. Tests are easy and like the homework. His jokes were a little corny but i liked them. lol.
He's a great teacher, but he's very weird, I would say socially inept. If you need someone to be your friend and stroke your back don't take him. However, he knows his stuff and is very good at explaining everything, he writes more than you'll ever need or want to know on the board. Make good note cards. I'm hate math and I got a B.
He write more than he talk, he is not helpful at all. Does not show any effort for his stuggling students.
He is a very odd person. I had a hard time recognizing what mood he was in because he face doesn't change lol, but this guy is an excellent teacher! He is extremely organized with his notes. You need to pay close attention in this class though. For the love of God, don't take your phone to class! He needs to work on helping those who need it more.
Great teacher....teaches by his notes and gives u on tha homework exactly wats gonna be on the test....all u have to do is show up aand listen and take notes....he could teach calc to a monkey.....great teacher, although his jokes are corny and he is kinda weird....still an easy A!!!
Off the bat I'll make it clear I failed this class. He is EXTREMELY BORING. Also he is NOT helpful. He writes the problem and he solves it; he expects you to understand it. I think he wants you to learn the math on your own at home. He can be great for people who are amazing at math, but for people like me who need help... DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Hard prof!!! Excepts you to learn everyday before class, and uses class as a review. Doesn't like questions asked in class, but he'll answer them. Makes you feel stupid. Avoid him if you can.
He expects you to at least look over the text before class, like most teachers do.His notes are clear and are written on the board word for word which was really helpful. He also reviewed the test giving you all the information that would be covered.I am not good at math but his method of teaching seemed to help.I would def try to get him again.
I had him for Stats. If you have to take Stats, he's the teacher to take it with. He explains everything, goes step by step, breaks it down so that you can understand it. His tests a hard! You def. have to study. I would though have appreciated it more if he would have given us a homework grade. Never miss a class. If you do you will be lost.
I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Russell's class. He is straight to the point and very clear with his notes. One of the best math professors I've had.
Stats i took him in the class room he put everything you need to know on the board all test have a study guide and you are allowed a note sheet on the test not so easy but if you do your work you will get at least a B.
If you have the option don't take his class, last day of class there were 8 people left in the class cause so many people dropped it. I've had 2 friends fail his class, and I thought that I was pretty good at math it wouldn't be a problem, I failed it. His tests are impossible. He gives you no class work and he writes on the board all class.
I had him for 1120, 1200 & 2300. He's a great teacher. Everything you need to know, he puts on the board. ALWAYS do the homework. If you can do the homework, you can do the test. Take notes, do the homework, and you should be fine. People who complain usually don't take notes or pay attention. HE KNOWS HIS STUFF! If you want to learn math, take him!
Great teacher. He teaches what you need to know. How many people dropped his class or failed it is irrelevant. This is college. You don't deserve an easy A. The fact that he does his job, and does it VERY well, by teaching a college level math course, isn't reason to give him a bad rating. If you fail, it's because you didn't put the effort in.
He is a great professor. I had him for Statistics. He writes everything, and I mean EVERYTHING on the board. There's no homework in the class, just Minitab and Exams. He gives a really good review sheet for the Exam so you'll get a good grade on the Exam as well. TAKE HIS CLASS.
I honestly hated him. I am not good in math to begin with so I needed extra help. He would not respond to any emails sent to him because he hates technology. He will freak out if you bring food or even a bottle of water into class. I did not like him at all.
Terrible. Unable to connect with students. Avoid at all costs
He's a great professor. He writes everything on the board. If you need extra help with homework, then visit him during his office hours.
Probably the best math teacher I have ever had. Great teaching abilities and excellent class skills. He wants to see you succeed. I recommend him 100%. He might not be the funniest but definitely the best.
Mr. Russel was the best Math teacher I ever had. He's not the most hip teacher but he knows math and how to teach it. He makes everything very clear and writes it all out on the board. If you like to eat or drink in class then don't take him but if you want to get a good grade and understand the material then he's the best!
I liked him as a teacher, but once I started struggling he avoided helping me at all costs. He never helps with any of the homeworks and he has an attitude when you ask questions in class. Otherwise, he is a good teacher.
this was my first time having him and i thought he was pretty okay. he goes really into depth with problems that even if you're horrible at math you actually understand!
Professor Russell isn't very effective if you are not good with math. He doesn't replies to email, and is very impatient when going to see him doing his office hours for help. His notes are clear. However, when you take his exam. He seems to put things on there that he doesn't go over. Beware, Beware, unless you very good at math.
The class is hard. Great teacher tho. you have to really study for the exams. Statistics is not easy you really have to study. Overall study and you will past.
Very clear in his notes. If you take notes while in his class you're golden. He is a bit quirky though. Overall I think he is an awesome teacher because his teaching style is very clear and easy to follow.
I took MTH-1120 during Summer semester and he is EXTREMELY helpful. He thoroughly explains everything we need to know. He breaks down the concepts and gives good notes. Learning was easy. He showed us how to utilize the graphing calculators and gave little tricks. His personality is a little off but overall very good teacher! I highly recommend
Didn't seem to know what he was talking about a lot of the time. We as a class would correct his mistakes he made while doing a problem on the board and he would try and joke saying it was on purpose.. messed up a ton of people's notes.
Fred is a great professor. He's a little unorthodox at times, but it's funny. He's thorough in every lecture- write everything he writes- it's worth it. He's organized and gives practice problems with answer keys for every unit. Study those and make your formula notecard neat and you'll pass. He 's very helpful if you get confused!
Very fair teacher- drops your lowest grade. He's very clear on what to expect on the tests so as long as you show up, take good notes and do the assigned problems you should be fine. He's a little socially awkward and boring but definitely knows his math.
By far the WORST professor I've ever had. Obnoxious and rude. He even made a weird yelp towards the end of the semester so we would be quiet but it was only a few people talking. Does unnecessary stuff. When you ask a question he'll beat around the bush to give you an answer. No extra credit. Read this review & do yourself a favor, don't take him
If you're not all that great at math you'd probably like him. He explains everything super slowly, and writes down most of what he says on the board as he works out problems. He's also super willing to answer questions. The one thing I didn't like was that he didn't give us the chance to work out the problems alone before we did them as a class.
Fred Russell as an individual is kindhearted and funny, but as a teacher he is disorganized and not helpful. Absolutely no grades were entered throughout the entire semester. Russell offers extra help when asked but his explanations are unclear. His method of teaching is to write equations on a white board and not offering any worksheets.
Fred Russell is very hard to understand, rude, and doesn't help you at all. I highly reccomend that you do no take him. Today I was taking my exam and I came in feeling confident, I had a little over 15 minutes left and he start rushing me. Previously I asked for help with my homework, and he said he couldn't help me because he has not looked at it
If you have the option, I highly suggest that you choose another professor. He is very disorganized. A couple times during class he would talk to his dad's "ghost" and it would make me very uncomfortable. He's not very helpful when you ask for help, and doesn't go over any practice problems.
Professor Russell haves a lot of mistakes in his note, homework, and Test. The students are often correcting him, and it makes you question what your learning. He grades your homework by choosing random questions that he wants to grade, therefore, it sometimes leds you to have a bad grade and your not getting the grades you deserve.
Had for Calc II (last semester) so it was a hard class to begin with. He was an ok professor though. Knew his stuff and did plenty of examples. Super Crazy though. He would get off topic frequently over the weirdest stuff and waste lecture time.
He was a good teacher. Hates everything that has been invented after the 80s. Hates food in the class. Boring. But a good teacher.
Very confusing and unclear, when you ask a question he doesn't explain well at all. Very dry and in organized lectures.
Lecture entire class and did not help much when you had a question.
Wonderful Calculus teacher. Gives you what you need to know. Absolutely terrific.
All he does is lecture the whole time and does a few examples. He then gives homework similar to what you did in class but 10x harder and for being a smarter student, the homework took me hours. He doesn't answer question well. He's not a bad teacher and knows what he is talking about but it was hard with him. Also very monotone.
One of the best math professors. Very lecture heavy, gives great examples. Show up to class, it helps with examples. Offers a note card for every test! Take advantage of note card. Gives out homework, grades homework on correctness not completion, get a study group together. You will have to work, but you will learn
He is an awesome Physics professor. He gives very clear notes in class, and great examples to help assist you on the hw. He hand writes the notes on the board while he teaches, which is very rare, but is more effective (for me). His homework questions follow his lectures to a T, and his exams look just like the homework. I really liked his class.
I am currently dropping the class now. It was terrible, I ask for help he refers me to look at my textbook for 6hrs outside of class. I currently have a tutor and still do not understand anything especially when I come in his classroom. He teaches the material but doesnt explain any vocabulary, why things are this or that, and barely does examples
Professor Russel's lectures can be very confusing, especially if you're not the best at math. If you have your phone on your desk, even if it's not being used, be prepared to get chewed out. One time my classmate went to sharpen his pencil while he was teaching and was scolded in front of the whole class...
Mr. Russell is an interesting physics teacher. Unusual teaching style, but it works! As long as you show up and take good notes, you'll have no problem in this course.
He does a lot of lecturing, in fact there is pretty much no type of hands on work or group participation at all. He writes EVERYTHING on the board, even random stuff. He will zoom through it and say "you got it? ok" as he erases the board. He is an overall nice professor but get ready to do a lot of independent work and studying.
It's all lecture but because he's also slow and writes examples of every problem on the board, it helps. Really having a ton of examples and the steps made it easy to understand what was going on. Note cards for tests. However he is definitely not someone to ask for help. Fits my learning style though.
There were not many assignments so grades are based mainly on tests. The entire class is a lecture EVERYTHING is written on the board notes are a must if you want to pass the class. There is are not any real interaction between Professor and class, just copy what's on the board and then take an exam.
gives lectures every class but you will use all of it. has a review session before each exam, there are homework assignments but not a whole lot. tries to make the lectures a bit fun by telling goofy stories and odd questions. overall a good professor but not for the lazy student
Jaded. You can tell he doesn't want to be a professor anymore but does what he can. Has come to lectures hungover multiple times and 90% of his examples are beer/alcohol related. A great guy that will help you but you can tell he isn't where he wants to be and he's hurting. You can use cheat sheets galore so it's an easy pass.
Hes teaching style is horrible and its more of a lecture class which is a bad way to teach for math. He will repeatedly tell the same stories that have nothing to do with math and if you need help he will tell you to go to the resource center or stay after class
DO NOT TAKE PROFESSOR RUSSELL HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN ANYTHING HE TEACHES ONE WAY I HAD TO DROP MATH BECAUSE OF HIM. NO AMOUNT OF TUTORING COULD HELP ME.
almost every class is a lecture. any class that isn't is a review or an exam. for calc2 and 3 he has 3 or 4 exams for the semester, they aren't hard if you go to the lecture. he allows one index card for a cheat sheet. he says a lot of out of pocket things but its the comic relief to the lecture. will end class early if all material is done for day
