great teacher! smartest man i have ever heard
One of the best in the business college. Uses great examples to get his point across.
Actually cares about his students. Highly intelligent. Good communicator.
Teach more like a professor not an auctioneer!
He's very cool, really cares about the students, go to class and you should get a B at least. tests are srtaight from the notes. Goes out of his way for the students!!!! Great Prof.
"Fast Freddy"...I had him for 3 classes, great teacher, very professional/business like, great guy. I learned a great deal from him---best teacher at IUP.
Great teacher. Very helpful and relates material with many stories. has a good sense of humor that helps class go smoothly.
slack is a great teacher...very knowledgable about many subjects....nice guy....loves USA Today today
Awsome guy, knows what he is doing, really fair, gave me an A grades reflect your effort
Fred Slack rules!!! Take him if your not part of the "Save the Trees Effort"...He hands out a large amount of power point slides, but takes all the test questions from them. I had him for 3 classes and got an A in everyone of them.
One of my best professors in four years at IUP. Exceptional.
Fred is not the best, but very fair. He teaches like a former Management Consultant would. It seems too much like he is trying to win us over. Class time is not utilized the greatest, but entertaining. He is open to criticism.
Easy going, entertaining, and fair. Slack is a very open minded professor, and one of the few I've had that is more concerned with you actually learning the material than making sure that his test curve isn't messed up. Grades reflect effort.
Dr. Slack is one of the best professors IUP has ever had. I have been in six of his classes. His mgmt development plan will literally change your life. He is fair. He expects excellence from his students. An outstanding professor, a cut above the rest.
He is a genius. He teaches his management class by actually applying the different theories of management to how he runs the class. He is the best that ECOBIT has to offer.
Very Easy class, but he gets off the subject very easily.
Slack is the best. Easy class and you got to love his attempted humor. Fun class.
class is a bit difficult. he covers the material very fast and gets off subject very easily. not a bad guy though.
Who can describe slack... Sometimes you hate him with passion and wish he would just shut up, and sometimes if you look deep enough what he says is so great and meaningful that its hard to believe sometimes.. Take him, you'll be better for it and aggrivated also, but that keeps you more productive.
Simply put...GO TO CLASS and talk with mic. He likes to tell stories about past experiences and it feel like the class is dragging. But he a good guy, even if he tells you he's not. Watch out for the "skunk eye".
Boring pointless lectures, but sometimes. Lots of powerpoint and rambling about NOTHING relevant. To get a good grade, ALWAYS talk on the mic and go to every class. Take notes in the book to pass tests (can be hard). Class avg was quite low but i did ok. Sit in the front so he knows your face!!!!!!!
3rd Semester taking him. He is fine. Not always the best lecturer, but entertaining and very fair. If you don't do well in his class, you should be ashamed of yourself.
I reccommend him to anyone he is very knowledgable of many subjects and is always willing to help.
His class is boring and probably very pointless to go to EXCEPT he grades on attendance and participation... so go, talk on the mic... and make sure you do all of his little assigments. tests are very hard study the book and you will do fine. Our class had a 20point curve on the 1st test!
This prof is horrible! Doesn't teach just gives examples. Very unclear on homework. Tests are hard, but he curves. I refuse to take him again!
Slack has a lot of life/work experience he relates in class. He has great networking skills and you can learn a lot about how the corporate world works. He has an alternative sense of humor that is remanisient of the dry humor prevailant in the 1940's and 50's.
He's a funny guy. His humor is a dry type but makes me laugh. If you take him be sure to be knowledgable on all the spongebob squarepants episodes. Fred's a spongebob kinda guy, he's always ready, he's ready, he's ready. I'd recommend him to anyone who must take this class. His test are curved reall
class is ridiculous with his boring jokes, but he makes up for it come test time, tests are curved reasonably, talk on the mic to boost grade.....
this guy is boring as hell but he tells you everything you need to know for the tests. Just go to class an participate
he didnt really teach during class, just talked about stupid things that had no relavence to the class, and sitting there and listening to it made you go crazy. He curved awesomely though/
Fred is fred. He's a pretty good teacher, but he gets off on tangents. He's quirky, but likable. His tests are very reasonable. Read the chapters and study the powerpoints and you will do fine. Nothing he asks is unreasonable.
The online class had a lot of reading, the test questions were a little confusing, although I think the tests came from a book not the prof, but it wasn't a bad class overall. He emails you back right away if you have any questions and gave extra points for questions I thought I shouldn't have gotten wrong.
UMM I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THIS GUY.DOESNT EVEN TEACH MANAGEMENT, FEELS LIKE I AM IN HISTORY CLASS. VERY DRY SENSE OF HUMOR. THE ONLY GOOD THINGS ABOUT HIS CLASS IS THAT HE CURVES BIG TIME AND ALWAYS GIVES EXRTA CREDIT.
What can you say about Fred? The guy definitely knows a lot about management. Just go to class and make sure you at least try on the tests. He is very generous in terms of curving and as long as you speak out in class, he will see to it that your grade doesn't suffer. Class can be a little boring at times, but he finds ways to let out early.
Fred is a great guy and that is the bottom line. For those of you who think he doesn't teach during class and just goes off on pointless tangets, think again. Each lecture fred gives, or each story he tells has something to do with the days management topic. If you would actually pay attention and not talk during class you might realize this. A+
Fred has a world of work experience to share with the class, some of who have not been out in the real world as of yet. He incorporates his experience with the context of the chapters which gives the student a reference point to study from. He is a great professor and role model for life experiences in the business world.
This teacher is awful...he makes you print out power point slids and then he just skips around saying "yea, this one is important, stuff...stuff.stuff..." He doesn't teach which sucks because I think he is the only 310 teacher...curves but still a lousy teacher and BORING!
Complete ridiculousness. Doesn't really teach, just tells strange stories all period. Final paper is HARD, but not much you can do to get around it. Just go to class and TRY to make sense of what goes on. It's a challenge...
One of the best Techers the Business Dept has. Brings real world experience into the class room. He tells stories and lets u spak ur mind when u have the chance. Real quality character.
I had MGMT400 online this semester and the discussions were easy, but the online tests I found difficult. In my opinion I dont learn anything from online classes because you dont do any of the readings cause everythings open note. I didnt have a choice b/w an online class and a classroom lecture, if I did I would have chosen the lecture!
had online class, highly recommend.the tests are hard because there are so many questions and it's hard to look at the computer screen for that long of a period. He puts a big curve on the test so it kind of makes up for it if you get a bad grade. very nice guy because i also had him in class and i enjoyed him, and the seinfeld comments,my favorite
Great teacher had him for MGMT 310 also go to class and look at the powerpoints and you will pass. One of the few professors there that have really been in the real world and brings it all into class. Would take him again but graduated.
He's a pretty alright guy. HW is easy, tests are long and hard but they are open note and there is a curve. Also offers one bonus assignment.
Class is very boring. He seems like an alright guy, but he doesn't really teach. Rather, he just talks and talks. He needs to explain what is going to be on the test, not tell us about his career as a consultant.
Don't bother buying the MGMT 310 book. Just print out the slides and mark the ones he tells you to. Go to class and do the assignments. It's pretty easy to do well.
borrrrrrrrring. he talks alot, probably pertains in some crazy way, but very hard to pay attention. hands out powerpoints and everything is in the i-drive. i suggest taking it online, you're going to be teaching yourself anyways. DONT BUY THE BOOK!
What can I say? Fred is the very definition of consumate professionalism. He creates interesting and applicable examples that make even the most complicated topic saliently clear. I would recommend any of his courses to anyone that want to truly understand business. My only criticism: he never lets us out early. - Sponge Bob rocks!
Boring as hell. I think I fell asleep in almost every class. Do not buy the book, you wont open it. Tests are standardized and really hard. I recommend taking this class online.
FRED is DaBomb! He has years of experience and many stories to tell. He uses the "narrative philosophy" approach to teaching this course and if you actually sit back and listen you will figure out that he is deceminating useful information upon you. There are three exams and several homework assignments. Also, ATTENDENCE counts so go to class.
Dr. Fred is the consummate professional. You will learn a great deal about business when he speaks so listen up! I had seven classes with Dr. Fred. Who else could teach mgmt. classes as well as someone who has over 20 yrs. experience as a business executive? Fantastically interesting and very humorous. He knows how to hold your attention!
I couldnt take his class. nice guy, but he has no life at all. He put me to sleep almost every class. even the classes that he was giving away stuff. its not that bad, but remember one thing when you go, CAFFINE.
Dr. Slack is an excellent professor. If only the majority of professors were like him than grad. school might actually be interesting. I learned so much in his class. I would recommend him to anyone. His tests were easy and the final paper was as well.
AWESOME SPONGE BOB RULES
I had Dr. Slack over the summer for three hour a day classes. I wouldn't have wanted to have anyone else. He tells alot of stories but if you listen closely all of his stories relate to what he is going over in class, even the ones about his son. He can be a little dry but he is great. I am currently looking for another class to take with him.
Easy A, but the biggest waste of my time. I could not bear listening to a word he said. Since he is obsessive compulsive with attendance, I had to think of things to bring to class to keep me occupied. He's extremely anal retentive & wastes A LOT of paper. I believe he cut down the entire amazon, which made me very angry. Thumbs down to Fred Slack.
The class was very interesting. The tests were challenging though especially with the number of chapters used for each exam. Overall, good class and professor!
I liked Fred Slacks class. He gets a bad rep. but hes not bad at all. If you just attend class you're sure to pass. I thought he was really funny and enjoyed the seinfeld references.
Fred Slack tells a lot of stories to fill time. If he didn't this class could be taught in two weeks. Tests and material are really straightforward. All you have to do is study what he says and show up most of the time. I can't understand how people bomb this class. Take him.
He is a good professor. Most students shut down when he starts to tell stories. LISTEN TO THEM, they actually do relate to the matierial that he is trying to teach. I think he does a great job at getting the 150 person class involved. If you go to class and pay attention, and study for his tests you will pass.
Dr. Fred Slack is by far the best professor I have had in the business department, maybe the best one ever. I just had him for a class 6-9pm and he made time fly. I never felt like I was there for 3 hours. He tells great stories that actually help you learn the material. And you always know what will be on the exam. Take him, you wont regret it.
He is a good teacher, everyone should take him. Tells stories that help you learn the material. Go to class, he takes attendance everyday, and it pays off in the end! Good class, take him!
I think I would rather chew on cardboard than go to this guys class. Yes, he is THAT boring. He tries to come off as your best buddy and then will just screw you when grades come out. HE IS A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR.
First off, don't cheat in his class! He caught two girls on the final and took their tests from them in front of 140 ppl. You want to talk about embarassment! Lastly, Fred, regradless of what he tells you, is a great guy and fun to have as a professor. Great stories and ridiculous conversations about his life. Take him!
I took this class in the early summer session.. it was soo easy! I would definitely suggest taking him. He does tell alot of stories but they really helped me remember the material. Go to class, pay attention and you will be fine! If I can I will absolutely take Dr. Slack again.
I didn't have in class yet, however as an Advisor, he rocks.
0 classes missed, A expected. This class was a waste of time. I think that Fred sees teaching as a distraction. The only reason he is in the area is to take care of his parents and provide a more stable home to raise his kid. He wastes a lot of time on the people who are not there to learn and neglects those who are there. I want my money back.
I thinks Fred is the best. He is always there to help and he wants you to succeed. Yes there are alot of stories, but they do help and as he says fact is stranger than fiction. If you have the chance take his classes, I have taken him 3 times and will continue to take as many classes as I can from him!
I loved going to this class. He made me laugh every day..He's not your typical prof, he is very unique and I doubt you will ever have another one quite like him..Just go to class & listen to what he has to say, you won't be disappointed!!
A competent professional. He kills trees and he might have a paper mill in back yard. Other than that, I have enjoyed every one of his classes. I have taken him three times in a row and I am looking forward to finishing out my degree by taking him a fourth time next semester.
If you have even the slightest sense of humor you will find a large portion of what Fred says to be hilarious. Those who see him as a boring robot either don't go to class, don't pay attention, or are in the wrong class. Just go to class and listen to the narrative philosophies of Fred and you'll do fine in the course.
I love compensation class! The projects were helpful and the class was interesting.
Fred is very easy to get along with. He lets you know what you are responsible for. You never wonder what the next class is on as he hands out agenda's weekly. Recommend him and think he is one of the best professors I have ever had.
I took his online class and he is a very funny guy. Really seems to care and is not just here for the pay check. Will work with you if you need it...online class was GREAT

nice guy - seems to really love teaching. class is never boring. he's always saying something goofy and his stories are pretty interesting. HOWEVER IF YOU WANT A PROFESSOR THAT'S GOING TO ACTUALLY TEACH YOU WHAT IS ON THE TEST DONT TAKE HIM. HE TELLS RANDOM STORIES THAT I GUESS RELATE TO MGMT, BUT DOES NOT TEACH THE SLIDES OR INFO ON THE TESTS.
The class itself was relatively easy but it was a complete joke. He made us turn in random assignments like ripping off the front page of the Wall Street Journal and turning it in for attendance points. Class consists of him telling random stories barely related to the topic. He also zips through the power points without really going over them
You can easily pass as long as you read the book because he gives out really in-depth study guides, so don't even bother wasting time reading the book until he gives them out. Despite passing pretty well, I don't think I learned anything and I wasted my time and killed brain cells attending class. I will never take him again. Period.
An hour and fifteen minutes of "narrative philosophies." Really Easy, but really boring.
Fred is a great professor and I learned so much from him! I cant believe people are saying the class is a joke, its not true. Fred just has a unique teaching style, that I personally love! I never thought I'd learn MGMT by watching Seinfeld clips! Fred makes this class fun and he's really laid back. He cares for his students, I would take him again
Fred is a cool guy. He has a lot of work experience, and you can learn from it. Easy tests, gives you practice questions. Overall entertaining and fun, but still learned.
Great teacher! Would recommend taking Fred. He is very helpful and has a lot of "real world" experience.
I have had slack for mgmt 310, MGMT 400 and MGMT 405. I prefer him for every class that has his name on it. He isnt boring like certain professors but he is definitely in the top tier of business professors. Uses seinfield and spongbob and apllies them to real world practices. Fred "Nails" Slack is the teachder of choice
He is one of the greatest professors ever. Makes class fun with his constant joking, Seinfeld and sponge bob references, and hilarious stories. You definitely should invest in the book and know the "terms to know" for each test. I will take all my management courses with Fred.
Some people claim that his jokes, videos and stories are not related to the subject. HINT:read the chapter before going to class. Fred is amazingly organized, professional and cares about students. He encourages commonsense thinking and uses WSJ in class. I enjoyed his multimedia presentations and class dynamics. Busines Genius
I believe the previous negative student comment is referring to another Professor who is team teaching the course with Dr. Slack. My experience with Dr. Slack has been that he is always willing to accommodate students needs and schedules, as I had him in MGMT 300 before this semester.
"Slack isn't such a bad guy after all" actually he's AWESOME not only does he deliver the material in a way you can unerstand it he has real world lessons that stay with you
Very intersting class - based on today's management practices and situations. Professor Slack very helpful and fair. If the student shows interest, completes work on time and tests then Professor is willing to work with student. Great class to take through summer because there is a lot of material to cover.
He is a great prof. He knows his stuff and can relate it to real world experiences which helps out so much and makes it more interesting. I do have ONE question...when does this guy sleep!?! But seriously- amazing guy, if you have the chance to take him-do it! He is truly an asset to IUP.
He doesn't teach much during class. tests are easy. got D+A+A and he gave me A because of attendance points. don't get the book.
He's really nice, funny, and understanding, but i think he takes his story telling a little too far, and doesn't teach the course material enough. He gives you you're homework so quickly, you have no idea what your supposed to do. And he will arbitrarily ask to see things such as notes, "to do list", wall street journal, etc. for "participation"
One of the better professors for business. In reality, he teaches a lot even though you don't realize it. A lot of examples are used in his class including Seinfeld and Sponge Bob. How can you beat that?
Slack is the man. He's really down to earth, but knows his****. If you get less than a C in his class, you are a complete idiot. Take him for any class you can. I would.
Fred is an okay professor. His tests are hard but he has a ridiculous curve (24% is a C with full participation). Have to go to class, he takes attendance. He's funny in class, always tells stories, jokes, and plays Seinfeld.
This class was completely worthless. I didn't learn anything that I already didn't know. Just memorize the powerpoints and you're good. But GO TO CLASS. He is ridiculous about attendance and participation grades. By the way he talks about "IUP-land," you'd swear he hated the place. Do us all a favor, and just leave Fred.
Slack is a intriguing professor. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who had to take a MGMT course. His tests are based off of the PowerPoint slides and are relatively easy. GO TO CLASS. Just because he is laid back doesn't mean he doesn't keep track of when you skip class. He uses a lot of videos in class. TAKE HIM!!
Fred is a unique individual.I have taken MGMT 310 and 300 from Fred. Loved both classes. He is a laid back kind of guy, as he would say.talks about IUP land and rate my Fred a lot. Would Highly recomend Fred!
Says attendance is mandatory, but I had him in an auditorium class with 100+ people... do you really think he kept track? His tests and assignments are very easy, and his curve is insane. He's a funny guy, but I learned nothing new from this class. Every time I tried to speak to him personally, he was very rude and not helpful at all.
Fred Slack is awesome! As long as you come to class regularly and participate it's an easy A. He is an extremely nice guy and if you're respectful to him he will help you any time you need. He is incredibly intelligent and has a good sense of humor, I think.
Just a warning, this guy loves to tell stories. In the beginning, it was very difficult for me to take notes. Sometimes he'd zoom through the chapter powerpoints in favor for his stories. I finally figured out that I'd take notes in my text. However, he gives lots of different ways to earn points. Plus, his grading is quite lenient.
Fred Slack is a great guy who means well. He loves to talk about himself and his experiences all the time. He tells stories "philosophical narratives" or something... that are supposed to pertain to the course material. VERY VERY hard course though. He doesn't teach relevant material in class. AVOID if possible
Expect to teach yourself everything. He tells too many stories that hardly relate and go off into long tangents. He asks for you to kill so many trees. I don't care if it's less than a water bottle, it's still a waste. His jokes get worse as the semester goes on. Take this online or with someone who knows how to teach.
Fred is a business genius! I feel lucky that he chose to leave the corporate world to teach students. His stories help me to remember material better. They're even humorous sometimes. It's a very laid back class but you MUST go. Random attendance is taken. It's interesting you never know what story Fred will tell...
Great professor. The test are tough however he gives bonus. I have taken three of his classes and enjoyed all of them. Be prepared to do a lot of reading.
You'll be teaching yourself. He doesn't go over the material at all. He tries too hard to be funny, and he tries to relate everything to real life experience but spends too much time on stories and not enough on the material itself. The tests are worded in a complex manner. You have to go to class, but you learn absolutely nothing. Don't take him.
Once this guy received his tenure his feet went up and his care for students and their education went out the window. He assigns projects with no direction or grading criteria and when students turn in irrelevant information and pretty graphs he grumbles, "this is A+ work". 75 remaining characters wont do justice to how disgraceful he is.
I had him for an online class (MGMT 401 Management Develop & Training ) it was pretty easy and he was clear on what he wanted.
Dr. Slack is one of the hardest working & knowledgeable professors I have encountered. I am a "non-traditional" student that was fortunate to have him as a professor for two classes. He is a wealth of information. A higher education should not be obtained easily, an easy class is doing you no favors. My advise is learn all you can from him.
Fred Slack comes off as inattentive, but he rows on you. You start to realize that he knows that you don't want to be there. His grading is fairly easy. One of the tests, he let us group up and take it. He's pretty funny at times too. He will definitely help you if you have a question.
You have to teach yourself the whole semester. He talks about his life stories all class about things that seem irrelevant . Tests are hard but he gives extra points for essays at the end. Would not take him again but seems like a nice prof.
Fred is such an Awesome guy. His classes although boring going over slides constantly are pretty entertaining. He's a hysterical man with some pretty Awesome stories. I've taken him twice now and recommend taking him if you get the chance. He's an easy B class but if you take it seriously an easy A
I had him twice, once for MGMT310 and then again for 400. In 310, he's alright. He gets irritating with all his irrelevant rambling, but it's pretty hard to fail. 400 is a different story. He covers absolutely no material that is on the exam. Zooms through the notes in favor of trying to make everyone laugh. Exams in this are a killer.
Fred's pretty funny, but if you actually wanna pass, you really have to read. He doesn't really explain his slides and often skips them.
Slack is the best and funniest professor I have ever had. His tests may be a tiny bit hard, but if you study the slides you will easily get a B. He gives a lot of good life lesson which I enjoy and makes the class interesting and fun. He doesn't let anyone get lower than a C. I would take him again!
Take him if you're serious about learning. His exams aren't bad if you read your book.
This class isn't like most others you will take. At the end of the course he explains that it's 50% content and 50% behavior. You get what you put into this. You will need to read the book to pass the tests. This is a great class and Fred is a great professor but if you have a bad attitude you will "fail."
Fred has a one of a kind teaching style. You'll come out of class somehow with more life knowledge than class knowledge, which by no means is a bad thing. He appreciates people who are helpful and hardworking. Attendance isn't mandatory but you never know if that's the day he's going to give everyone who came a study guide. Effort pays off.
I took and online class and regular class with him. He is great I would recommend anyone to take him!
Nice guy. You get a good laugh in lectures, but reading the book is the only way to do well on exams. Exams are a tad brutal, but stay on top of the class and you should do okay. Just because she skips over a slide does not mean it won't be on the exam. Lectures are practically pointless, but you kinda have to go to maintain a good grade
Easy but haven't really learned anything about management. Class includes 3 tests on 7 chapters a test. The three test are your only grades so it is a lot of material. Tells jokes all the time in class but I don't think I have ever heard him laugh. Management did not interest me at all but Fred Slack made it a little more intresting.
Frank Stack, er, Fred Slack, was one of the more memorable profs I've had. His blend of dry humor and SpongeBob sound bites kept the lectures interesting. Make sure you show up and don't play on your phone, since he grades a significant portion on behavior. Also, make sure you read through the chapters.
hes a really cool and funny guy but makes your work hard for your grade. You will learn a lot in class and he makes the material interesting but showing many demonstrations or examples. your grade is made up of just exams, and they are pretty tough. Good guy and will help if you ask
I LOVE FRED SO MUCH. HE IS THE BEST. IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO TAKE HIM, DO IT!!!! He is so funny. Sit in the front row, and whatever you do, don't sit in the back!!
Easy A. No need to buy the book. Grading based off of 3 exams.
Read ahead, attend class, sit in the front and turn off all electronic devices. Attendance isn't taken but you never knew when he'll have you turn in an easy in class assignment and give bonus points for it. Fred's a decent guy with a lot of real world experience. Some lectures are simply him giving career advice in the context of the material.
Dr. Slack, better known as Slack, is one of the best professors at IUP! While he tries to come off as just an ordinary guy, he goes above and beyond for his students. He teaches "corporate in college" and gives a real world perspective. If you want a professor who cares about students, and challenges you to grow as a future professional, he's it!
Some people don't like him, but I really don't get why. He seems to be very knowledgeable and tries to pass that onto his students. I imagine he knows the subject material isn't the most glamorous, but he tries to make it fun with some humor. If you have the opportunity, take him, you really will learn quite a bit!
Dr. Slack, worships the almighty dollar, and is just there to make a buck. While you would think this is a bad thing, it really isn't. He genuinely cares about students, tries to make lectures interesting, and very knowledgeable. While he can ramble on, he does try to be funny and by the end of the class, you really have learned quite a lot!
Fred Slack or as I like to say Slack Daddy is an amazing guy, truly one of a kind. Best professor not just at IUP but world wide.
Dude is straight up baller. Plays Spongebob and Seinfeld in class and it still somehow relates to material. Do the work, show up to class and you'll pass. He throws so much shade and sass at people who don't do the assignments or come to class. Dry humor for sure, but he makes it work. GOAT
Professor Slack was FAIR and a pleasant distraction summer the summer semester. His syllabus was CLEAR, he encouraged interaction between students and/or faculty. He reminded us that at GRAD Level, you are required to write in a specific format---this should not be a surprise to anyone. Exams were posted in a timely manner to achieve maximum result
Attendance isn't mandatory, it can be bonus. Don't need a book, puts all the info online.
Spends so much time talking about irrelevant personal stories. Didn't learn a thing in the class. He gives a lot of bonus but the tests are impossibly hard. Can't get lower than a C in his class but good luck getting an A
Took Slack twice. I got my degree in 04 but and now just taking the time to give Slack the credit he credit he deserves. 2 of the easiest As I had at IUP. Literally go to class and take notes and the exams were a breeze! Cant say enough how much I enjoyed the easy grades. He wasnt the most exciting guy in the world but neither is the material.
One of the best professors at IUP. Highly recommend a Fred Slack class. He also tells the best stories!
He takes attendance so go to class. Lectures can be boring at times but if you review the power points, read the chapter notes, and take his practice quizzes you will pass with an A.
Your whole grade is 3 exams and they are difficult but he curves them so you can't get below a C. Lectures are helpful to go to and he tells you what will be on the exam and he gives a lot of extra credit if you go to class and do what you're supposed to do. DO NOT WALK INTO CLASS WITH YOUR PHONE OR ATTEMPT TO CHECK YOUR PHONE HE WILL KICK YOU OUT!
Doesnt tell you to type up homework assignments. You better be psychic and know that you have to type it up. Makes you attend class, because who wouldnt want to miss his irrelevant and pointless lectures. Says he doesnt want anyone to complain to dean about leaving early, Im tempted to secretly record his bogus lectures and show them that.
Well, Its impossible to fail this class. Yes, Slack is a one of a kind prof but hes the kinda prof we all need. You cant get below a C in this class & gives a redicoulous amount of extra credit. Show up, respond to his whacky stories and youll get extra points. Ill really never forget Slack and his class.
I have taken Fred 3 times now for different classes and he is still my favorite professor at IUP. He's an awesome man and is always willing to help you out in his class and in any other situation in your life. He's extremely understanding and will always put his students first. He's the best! 10/10 would recommend. Thank you, Fred!
He's a good, caring professor. His lectures are really chill and he's very understanding. Easy class overall. You have 3 tests and an easy discussion assignment almost every week. Do not buy the textbook, you won't need it. Go over Power Points and quizzes and you'll be fine.
Fred Slack is such a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you want a ton of extra credit, show up. His class is only graded off of 3 exams, but if you study using his practice quizzes, they're easy to pass. He lets you pick your final overall grade on the final exam. I should've gotten a C but I said I deserved an A and got an A.
My boy Slack is the best professor that I've had in management by far. If you go to his class and just listen to his stories and answer the questions you will get an easy A. Also study the supplements!!!
Very understanding and good professor. Show up to class and participate and you'll receive enough bonus to get an A or at least a B for sure. Does a great job providing real world examples rather than just textbook definitions. 10/10 recommend
Cares about student's success and well-being. Lectures are amusing and contain many real life examples and applications. Easy and valuable course. Class is 3 exams, study and you'll do great. Come ready to participate in class discussions, bonus is given.
Fred Slack is my favorite professor I had at IUP. Provides great real world examples as well as his life stories relating to the topics. Show up to class and you will get an A. One of the funniest, most enjoyable classes I've taken. Would highly recommend.
All around great guy. We had a night class that was two and a half hours long. He made the class very fun and engaging and made jokes. He asks for you to look stuff up and participate every once in a while. If I could give him a 6 I would. Would take again
Fred is a very interesting guy, his lectures sometimes do not make sense, he tends to skip through a majority of the lecture slides and then the info he skips is on the exams. Study lectures! He tells good stories and is funny, but there are times where you learn nothing. Attendance isn't mandatory but go, because he gives test hints.
When he says attendance is not mandatory he means that he will talk bad about you when you don't go because you're a poor decision-maker. It's hilarious. If you want to be in his jokes be a bad student. He told fascinating stories and he likes Mcdonald's. What he says in class is not on the test it's a joke, what's on the test is in the PowerPoint.
Overall great professor and a great human. One of the best professors this university has to offer. Very easy course.
For a good grade, go to classes and check the D2L page! Lectures are interesting and he gives a lot of insight onto how to prepare for exams. Interesting guy who cares about students success. Participate and answer his questions in class! 10/10 would take again.
Wasn't sure what to think when I started the class. As the semester went on I got used to how he taught. 3 exams not too terrible if you study and read the book. Participation matters and even though attendance isn't mandatory it helps if you show up.
Fred Slack is a really awesome guy. He tries his best to relate everything in the lectures to the real world and tries to have some sort of story to go with it. Definitely don't think it's necessary to purchase the required text. I literally NEVER used it.
I love Dr. Slack as a professor and an advisor. This semester he operated on an "A or B" course, meaning you only could get an A or B in the class as long as you showed up and participated. This made me want to learn even more because I have tester anxiety.
Dr. Slack is literally the definition of the G.O.A.T.. This man is by far the greatest professor of all time. His class is very engaging and there isn't a dull moment. He is very funny and relates the material that he teaches very well. The assignments he provides are very straight forward and he doesn't beat around the bush. Great guy!
Take any course you can with Fred Slack!! Best professor I have had at IUP! Very glad I had the chance to take a class with Dr. Slack. He is caring, kind, works at a great pace, and is very smart.
He is amazing and super caring. I take him every chance I get and highly recommend! All you have to do is show up and engage in conversation and I guarantee you that the class will fly by. TAKE DR. SLACK!
