Easiest class I ever took. No homework--3 tests
Extremely easy class, however the lectures are very long. Very nice guy.
Really, really, nice guy. The class was also very easy, but I don't think I learned all too much. I would take him again.
Very nice guy. Even though his lectures are long, I managed not to get bored. That is probably due to me liking history so much. I would recommend him to anyone. :)
Super easy, extremely nice guy. made history interesting. Knows alot of unknown facts. Classes were long but all you had to do was be there and listen, even had movie nights with snacks!
Very nice guy. His lectures become a bit dull, and drawn out due to his southern accent, but he's overall truly concerned with how much his students learn. Very easy "A"...
He was a great instructor! An easy A. Rambled a little bit, but overall was great!
This guy is probably the best teacher I've ever known. Because he's such a good, caring, person. You'll also learn a little history, and you'll enjoy it.
The best teacher :)
Great at lechtures. He was wonderful. The first History teacher that didn't put me to sleep.
Awesome teacher. Probably the best one i've had at msjc just because he was so nice & actually cared about all the students. Very easy A. All you have to do is take notes & he even let us use them on our midterm & final which is all we have besides the paper. I got an A after failing it with someone else last year & actually learned a lot.
Easy A. I hate history and did not want to take this class. All you have to do is show up to class, take notes, take his 2 OPEN book exams and write one paper. I loved this class and would take another one from him.
Easy A. Not much effort required. Nice guy and very flexible in working with students.
He is very caring and always willing to help. He is genuinely caring professor, compared to others I have had. He makes the class interesting and makes it fun to learn. He follows protocol, but makes one want to come to class. Take him, tell the administrators to hire him full time.
Really nice guy, very enthusiastic teacher, loves the study of Calif Indians - made me love it too.
Easiest A you'll ever get! I took his class for History 112 & History 121 & got an A both times! He let's you use notes on the exams... what other teacher let's us do that? Plus he only takes attendance maybe the first few classes. Take him.
online course sucks!!
2 open note tests. Stuff on Ishi made me feel like I was participating in objectifying people. That's why I hate behavioral sciences, because they objectify and analyze. But if you have to take one, take ANT 121 with Standley. Nice guy, very easy, not 2 boring. Sure beats a psych class. You might even be able 2 double count units as ethnic studies.
Awsome instructor: awsome personality, makes class easy.
AMAZING. He is genuinely concerned about his students, and is EXTREMELY understanding. He's willing to do anything to work around an honest, hardworking student. Lectures get drawn out, but theyre not too bad. It feels more like storytime when he teaches, compared to other classes. Extra credit is ABUNDANT too, and super easy to get. Very easy A.
very informative, easy to work with. His classes are fun.
Wonderful instructor and a very good person. I would take every class with him in every subject if I could. If you are really trying he will go way out of his way to work with your needs. Just listen and write notes. The 2 tests are both essays, but he wants opinions not names/dates so it's easy. Don't buy all books. Won't need most of them.
Mr Standley loves history and wants his students to really learn. Take notes in his class and you'll get a good grade. Back up with research and you'll get a GREAT grade.
Best instructor at the school. Easy classes but you learn more than in hard ones. No busy work. Easy to listen to, funny. Everyone like him.
I'm doing a Special Projects class with him and he has been very helpful and easy to work with. When I couldn't find a book he lent me his. He has gone out of his way to make the class what I want it to be and while he is there for any questions/guidance/instruction I need he is letting me choose how I want to approach the subject matter.
Very Easy but interesting. Took this as a 6 week class. I definitely recommend, esp. if you hate history and want to get it over with quickly. He will make it easy and enjoyable. DO NOT BUY BOOKS! YOU WONT NEED THEM! Did not use mine once and got an "A". He has great lectures and covers everything more than thoroughly. He really enjoys his subject.
Great to professor to have. i took the fast trak class and loved it. Will be taking every class I can of his. Delivers the knowledge of History very well. If you have to take histor, Get in his classes.
Take him!! The greatest teacher ever, every school should have a teacher like Mr. Standley! He is smart, passionate about his profession and the kindest person.
This professor is well worth taking.
Awsome teacher. Listen to the lectures and you will do good in class on the test.
Great Instructor. Genuinely loves history and enjoys teaching it. He is very enthusiastic and entertaining, and that make a big difference for students. Highly recommended.
Mr. Standley was wonderful. His enthusiasm for his work is admirable. we had a take home exam for midterm, all essay answers. he wants to know what your opinion is on the subject. i would highly recommend him, he is a sweetheart and truly cares for his students. Thanks Mr. Standley for a great summer class.
Took Him for the second time. Very Good teacher. Loves what he does. Makes learning fun and very easy to follow. Hope he comes back next year. Will take again.
My favorite instructor. Makes you want to come to class. Really makes a difference for his students. And cute too.
Great teacher with great lectures, makes sure all students understand what he is lecturing.Takes interests in what students opinions are and questions
Very cute.
I definately recomend this teacher. Some might find him a little boring but I really enjoyed his class. I wish he taught more classes! He was very helpful and he seemed to care about each student. One word to describe him is sincere.
super easy, no homework, take home midterm and final, only one research paper, very nice guy, class was canceled three times already and we are three months into the spring semester
super easy but super boring, no homework, take home midterm and final exams,
Really great teacher. Loves to talk and makes the class interesting. He is really easy! It is not a necesity to come to class but he does notice when you are not there.
Mr. Standley was one of the best teachers I have had a MSJC. He was very kind and understanding but above all a fascinating teacher. He really gets into his lectures and its great to listen to him. I would definately recommend Standley to anyone who needs someone to understand that they have a life outside of college. Awesome! Awesome! AWWWEESOMe!
This class is easy, but Mr. Standley made history interesting because of his love for the subject, and the way he made it relevant.
I'll be honest, history isn't really my thing so in my opinion it was kind of boring. lol but Mr. Standley is a great guy who really loves history and shows it! There's no hw, just an essay midterm and final which are usually take home. If you miss class a lot he knocks points off of ur tests. But if you want an easy class, this is the one! :)
Im new to the college thing. Standley was my first teacher at msjc and i couldnt have asked for a better teacher.
Not a history fan, but this class was very enjoyable & I learned a lot.
BORING very boring. He takes role til about halfway through the semester then stops. Take home mid-term, 1 research paper do at the end of the semester, and in class final. He doesn't like hard teachers and he is not 1. Only A's & B's in his class. Dont buy the textbooks. I never used mine nor read the book Ramona (final questt.) & past with an A.
Very nice teacher. He is very passionate about history and loves his students. He makes history interesting!
He is AWESOME! Best class I ever took. Very talkative, he makes history cone to life with his lectures. Just make sure you write down notes as he is lecturing because it goes fast. Recommend you take all his classes!!!
He is a good instructor. A little too hard on himself, but keeps things fun with his humor. He notices if you are not in class, or if you come in late. Didn't really use the text books, and the work load was light... mid terms and finals were not too bad either.
Mr.Standley really knows his history and is working toward his doctrine. He is an inspiration to all ages that anyone at any age can accomplish a degree in college. His lectures are very thorough with the timeline of history and prepares you for your midterm and final.Awesome Instructor!!
Mr. Standley was awesome! I really had no interest in the subject prior to class, but came out with a better understanding of the CA native americans. He is a very easy going professor who works hard to relate to every student. Class is a breeze, just do the papers and you're pretty much guaranteed an A. Don't buy the textbook, not necessary!
excellent teacher was the best i've ever had such a wonderful person super nice and makes history fun if your going to take a california indians class then i strongly recommend him
I had a hard time focusing on his lectures just cause of the way that he talks so slowly but he was a good teacher. He is very helpful and understanding.
Great Professor. I had him at CSUSB, and it shows that he cares about his student's learning of the subject. He has a passion for California History. Attend his Classes. It is worth it!
Awesome!! You must attend class, test are based on his lectures. Great man really cares. Loved every single class I just wish he taught more classes.
great teacher, he really cares about his students and helps you understand everything, he is a very laid back guy and i HIGHLY recommend taking his classes if you get the chance to
Great Teacher, easy class. Essay questions are what his classes are all about, so take good notes.
Such a great professor! easy class!
Loved Prof. Standley. Take good notes, as his tests are all essay questions. Attend class!! I missed two classes and really regretted it! Lol. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed! I hope to take more classes with him in the future.
Excellent professor. His extremely approachable, and friendly. It helped that I was interested in the class, but makes history exciting. He doesn't have a problem with stopping in the middle of the lecture to make sure everyone fully understands the material. I would take him again in a heart beat.
He is an excellent teacher. His class was super easy as long as you pay attention, he lectured the whole time. two midterms, no homework, and one essay at the end of semester show up to class because what he lectures will be on the midterm and could help with your essay. He is an amazing and i recommend him for history class.
Professor Standley is a great professor. I took his 8 week course History class and it was really straight forward. no HW just, just a midterm and a final. Oh and also the research project but it was easy! would recommend him
Professor Standley is an amazing professor. History wasn't my forte until I took his class. He finds a way to keep his lectures interesting with his humor and story-telling. I took his 8 week course and it was the best history class I took. I highly recommend him and I would take him again.
Standley loves history and his class is a piece of cake! Midterm, Research Paper and Final that's it! He hands out A's like it's candy. I have taken many history classes and this by far was the easiest class I have ever taken. I took the 8 week course and I never bought a book. I did fine with online sources. All assignments are take home.
SUCH a nice guy! He's super helpful, makes learning fun, and plays videos from time to time. I'd recommend his class a million times over.
I took hist 112 and it was easy and fair grading. As long as you do the work, he will give you an awesome grades in return. There are only few things that you have to worry in the class. First attend the class, midterm (3 questions for 1 12 to 2 pages long), same as final and lastly, the research paper (8-10 pages I believe). easy right?
His lectures can be a little dry, but if you like the subject you'll like the class. Obviously cares about his field AND his students. Show him that you are engaged in the material (he wants you to participate in class discussions), and he will be understanding about extenuating circumstances (was fine with me being regularly late due to my job).
I don't like History but you'll love it wprofessor Standley! He is really interesting & he hooks you in with the material. His mid term & final are just a page and a half of an event or person he spoke about. The book isn't needed, mid term, final, and research paper. I loved this class that I 'd take his 112 and Native American class if I could!!
Professor Fred Standley is an incredible teacher. His background is extensive and he teaches with passion. He makes History very interesting which makes History fun. I would absolutely encourage you to fight for his class. You will have a take home midterm and take home final exam and a 8 page research paper. His lecture is fantastic.
This man is someone to look up to. I will never forget his first lecture he had me in tears. He believes in education and is very understanding. Mr. Standley is a great professor that assigns only research assignments. I wish the best to anyone taking any of his courses because he is just amazing. You're in good History Hands. God Bless you Mr. S
Mr. Standley is a professor I will never forget. Although his course was a mere 8 weeks, my person is changed for a lifetime. I admit that upon entering his class I was totally uninterested in history. Now, I am wishing I could take another class with him. Take your history class with the best history teacher, Dr. Standley.
He's a great professor! He really cares about his students passing and he does his best to remind you what will be one his tests.
Professor Standley makes history interesting. He knows what he is talking about. Grades are based on mid term and final, which are simple take home essays. Definitely recommend this class.
I took his Summer class, and it was the best. Honestly, just show up to class, listen to his lectures, write the required essays and turn them in on time, and you will do just fine. Standley is a passionate professor that you will love! I hope you will enjoy this class as much as I did.
Professor Standley is a great professor! I took his summer class and I am glad I did. At first, I wasn't looking forward to learning about history, but Professor Standley made it interesting and fun. Now, I can honestly say I enjoy learning about history. Thanks Mr. Standley! :) I would definitely recommend taking his class!
Standley was one of the sweetest and passionate teachers Ive ever taken. Not to mention, theres only 3 easy assignments. 2 tests and a research paper. Take this class!
I usually dislike History but he made the material simple, clear and easy to learn. If you show up to lecture you will pass the class. I suggest sitting near the front because he is a soft spoken Professor.
Mr. Standley is the most adorable, knowledgeable, sweetest man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I took his summer course and I'm glad I did. His lectures can get a little boring, but he's just so sweet and huggable that it made me pay more attention.
Absolutely Amazing Proffesor !! This Man knows his History and he Loves it and he helps you become a lover of history too . Probably my most favorite proffesor ive ever taken. There are 3 assignments A mid term which is 3 papers 2 pages each final is 3 papers 2 pages each and a research paper 8-10 pages reading novels a must
Professor Standley is very good professor. His lecture is very easy to understand. For the test, he gives essays only. For summer class, he asked 2 essays. One 6 pages and the final 10 pages. No bad at all. Just be read to read and to write. That's all.
Do not expect fluffy truth about the way Native Americans were treated. He gives a up-front, truthful view of the way it was, has been and current lectures. Passionate of his teachings, do not neglect your work, participate and he will motivate you to learn a new reality of the United States. No truths held-back. I really learned more with him.
The most kind instructor i have ever taken. You will be glad to have taken his class because it is super easy and very informative. In this class as long as u show up to class and pay attention u will be able to get an A+. The midterm and final is a take home test in which u will get most of the credit as long as u do it. Just show up and u'll pass
Standley is a legend in my book. Take his class and you will pass for sure! Very kind person who really cares about the subject and will always try to help you. Attend class and do the essay assignments and you will get an A in the class. He says the books are necessary but i never once read a page and still got an A by just listening to lecture.
This is my 4th attempt at this particular course (different teachers). If someone would've asked me 3 weeks ago what was the reconstruction era about, I would have not been able to answer it. In these 3 short weeks, I feel like I've learned more than the 3 previous times before. He conveys history in a relatable way. Great teacher!!
If you show up and listen to his lectures and take notes.. you will learn and laugh! 2/3 books really used. But the 1 other book is helpful for referencing since he basically lectures out of that book. He is a honest and caring teacher, he doesn't want to give more work than he has to, to his students. He wants you to succeed!
I hate history and took his summer class. Honestly this class was such an easy A. I basically slept through the class and passed. His exams are just essays so if you do your research on the topics you choose you'll be fine. If you listen to him when he lectures you'll find he's pretty funny and kind and has a strong passion for the subject.
Professor Standley was truly inspiring. I took his Native American Hist class last fall and was truly touched. At times it brought tears to my eyes. Do expect to attend class. Midterm and Final are take home essays. Lectures are very informative so you don't want to miss. Besides his smile lights up the room and his charm will captivate you!
Is a caring professor that will do everything he can to make sure you pass. He is very understanding if you communicate with him. For the midterm and final essays he gives, you are given 10 questions, he assigns everyone 1 of the questions and you are able to choose any 2 of the other questions to answer. Both are also take home exam essays.
Is a caring professor that will do everything he can to make sure you pass. I highly recommend because he is funny and gives great feedback on essays . He is very quick to answering emails and questions about anything. He is absolutely amazing and respectful!
Professor Standley is awesome! I took the fast track class and he only gave three assignments all semester. His midterm and final were both take home and the last assignment was a research paper. Over all, it was a fun class that I got to learn about stuff I had not known before from a guy who has a major passion for history. I loved the class.
The lecture was pretty boring in my opinion BUT the class is easy so it's up to you, just be prepared for that! His explanations of assignments are pretty vague which can be frustrating and he got mad at me for asking about it after class saying he already explained. Strict about attendance also. Personally this class just wasn't for me..
Awesome! He has been very easy going with me missing classes due to personal reasons but if you do the midterm and the final correctly, it's an easy pass! He's really funny and very nice!
Took the 9 week class.3 two paged essays for midterm and final, on any topic gone over in class .8 page research paper on anything before 1877. Bought the four books but never opened any of them, just used notes from lectures and google for the essays. He does not use canvas, so you won't know your grade until you get your paper back.
He is such a nice and caring guy, he is entirely invested in your success and wants you to take away something from his class. He gives out several papers but they are not hard at all as long as you pay attention and do the reading. This class is not hard at all. I took the shortened term class, kept on top of the work and got an A.
Professor Standley is a wonderful teacher. I took his summer course. His passion for history will give you a different outlook on it. No PowerPoint lectures so attendance is important otherwise youll miss important topics. There was a 3 question midterm answered in essay form, 1 research paper, and a 3 question final.
Such an amazing professor! Very passionate about history and seems like he loves teaching about it. Only six 2-page essays (midterm and final) and an easy 10-page research paper. Definitely, recommend. Easy A and you'll learn a lot!
Professor Stanley is the best such a great instructor super nice and is extremely easy to pass he grades on attendance and 3 Major Papers all you have to do,he will put you to sleep though so be prepared to spend 1 hour 1/2 listening to him just lecture and talk really boring but worth it. There is a Midterm & Final 6 Pages Each and 1 Project 10 Pg
An AMAZING professor. He is very caring about his students and their studies. You will definitely learn in his class if you sit through his lectures and write down notes. He is available before class and through email. I took his 6week class. I would recommend taking his class.
He is honestly the sweetest guy ever. He understands you have other responsibilities outside of class. It is very easy and he truly loves this subject which is amazing to watch. Take him you won't regret it!
Professor standley is an amazing teacher, his lectures are so interesting and how he explains things makes it very easy to follow. He is so sweet and understanding and will work with you.
He is such a nice guy, his lectures are great. He doesn't assign homework and he does take attendance. Mid-term and Final was a take home essay assignment, and gave us a week to do it. Didn't need any of the books, only requirement was to read To Hell and Back and Uncle Sam wants you. He is not a hard grader with essays as long as you give detail.
Mr. Standley is possibly one of the nicest teachers on campus, hes really calm and loves teaching his subject. I love when he goes off about his stories when we discuss certain points in history. There practically is no homework besides the mid term and final.
Professor Standley is awesome! He is one of the most laidback and caring instructors I have encountered at msjc. He only requires papers for his exams and a research paper, which he gives you many options to pick from. Standley's lectures are interesting and I did learn a lot even though I am not into history. I would recommend him 100%.
This is by far the best professor at this college. Iv never had a professor that is so understanding and he is very helpful as well. Im taking his class again for fall.
This class is a easy A, literally you just show, listen to his interesting lecture, and write 2 research papers. You're required to read To Hell and Back, and Uncle Sam Wants You and write a research paper.
LOVED this class! He is the sweetest professor and his lectures are so interesting! I normally dislike history, but I actually enjoyed every minute and learned so much from him! Highly recommend his class!!! Take notes from his lectures and your work will be so easy to complete.
Mr. Standley was an awesome teacher! He is very passionate about history which makes the material way easier to engage in. He also makes past events very relatable and easy to grasp. Doesn't require homework aside from 3 essays, which are fairly easy to write based off in class lecture. I also was able to find the free pdf version of each book.
I took this class during the summer 2019, it was a great class! He does have heavy lectures but it was really easy. In that class attendance matters and he only graded on the essays.
Easy A, TAKE HIM!! Doesnt give a lot of assignments. When he lecturing its as if your in picturing it in your head. Hes really repetitive (helpful though, if you miss something) ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU! Just message him. When he teaches its NOT as if you hearing something out of textbook (he wont bore you)
super nice and caring. you can tell he loves what he does and doesnt make it boring. only assignments are midterm and final. which are 2 essays each time, one based on lectures and the other on a books he assigns to read. I didnt read the books and still got an A. Hes pretty easy as long as you dont procrastinate youll be fine.
Very well presented. Maybe too much reading material, but the overall assignments and tests were fair.
I took Professor Standley's California Indians class at MSJC. This is the class that led me to my degree in American Indian Studies at Cal State San Marcos, and to my current Graduate Studies in Indigenous Education at Arizona State University. Thank you, Professor, for challenging me and giving me the courage to continue with my education.
