Very fun teacher. Makes jokes all the time which keeps you focused, he's not boring at all. Just study the material and you will do great. He is also very helpful and will make himself available if you need extra help. Awesome teacher i reccomend him!
He's a very good teacher, explains terms in a very clear manner and is willing to help.
Excellent Instructor, tests can be difficult but he is great at explaining things as many times and in as many different ways as needed. Always approachable and always willing to spend time out of class for additional instructing. I would definitely recommend.
OK PEOPLE NOW VOGT IS KOOL, YES HE IS WILLING TO HELP AND ALL.HOWEVER, HE TEACHES HARD AND TOUGH! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM FOR NOONE! HE THINKS THAT HIS CLASS IS THE ONLY CLASS ONE HAVE!TO SOME PEOPLE BIO IS ONLY A PREREQ NOT THEIR MAJOR, BUT THAT IS HOW HE TEACHES!! PLEASE DO NOT TAKE VOGT!IF YOU ARE ON ANOTHER TEACHER'S WAITING LIST WAIT! PLEASE
Great Teacher keeps explaining the subject till everyone understands. Always makes the lectures bearable by jokes. Very knowledgeable and always willing to help.
Excellent teacher and would recommend. He is very funny and always make jokes. He always is there for when someone needs help. Very cool person to have for Bio class. Definitely would recommend because he is just awesome.
Take Mr. Vogt if you are up for a little challenge. Despite his tough tests, he offeres a lot of extra credit assignments/questions throughout out the semester. I have total respect for mr. vogt, funny and very knowledgable man. I would recomend him, youll learn a lot and have fun doing it.
Funny and keeps things interesting...
Very good. I had him for a 8am class (which is hard to begin with) but he really tries to keep everyone involved and awake. He always was willing to help and reexplain something that isn't clear. Class is hard, but its a science. Its expected. Good teacher, definitely advise him. :)
I loved Mr. Vogt, he is very funny and makes anyone like bio. He does not hand out a lot of homework, but his tests are hard so pay attention. Attendence is not mandatory but it is if you want to pass with a good grade. Overall he is awesome and I would recommend him to anyone!!!
This class is one of the most fun and intresting classes I have taken so far. If you want to pass with a grade make sure to pay attention to every little detail. For the downside be ready to rip your hair out after studying for hours on end then examine it on a cellular level and somehow be able to exit this class sane hopefully.
Mr. Vogt is one of the best teachers at ECC. It?s amazing how helpful and devoted he is to his students & his work. He is also a very funny, down to earth guy with a great sense of humor. Although he gives the impression that he is a relaxed and easy going teacher in class, his tests are hard. However, I had a fun summer with Mr. Vogt!
Although Mr. Vogt was helpful, he was very confusing. He doesn't give back homework and expects you to memorize study guides. But when you get to the test, you are supposed to analyze the questions before you answer. Everything is a trick question. Reworded COMPLETELY different to where you can't even tell the cooralition to the study guide.
Mr. Vogt is absolutly amazing! The best teacher i have had at ECC by far. I love the fact that he asks so many questions to the students to make you think and come up with the answers on your own. Also it's so nice to see how much he cares about his students. He wont move on till he's sure that you understand. I HIGHLY recommend this teacher!
He's a funny guy and class was always pretty fun. I thought his lectures were very clear and interesting, however, his tests are extremely hard. I always felt like I knew everything on the study guide but had a hard time with the essay questions. I heard he's one of the best bio teachers at ECC but he's definitely not an easy teacher.
He is a very good teacher. I struggled with this class. I found the tests very difficult, but whenever I needed help before class, he was always there to help out. Very helpful and I highly recommend him. I just hope I passed!!!!
One of the better professors I've had at ECC. He puts all of his notes on PowerPoint which makes studying easier.
Professor Vogt is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and very knowledgeable as well. When it comes to tests and grading in general tho, he is batspit insane. The tests WILL NOT have anything to do with the study guide. I have a 3.6gpa, aced chemistry last semester, and I am failing his class. No way to know for sure tho, he won't post grades.
Like everyone has said he is a nice guy, but his test stray far from the material he wants us to study. I would have taken Bio with O'Sulliven if I had a chance to.
Knowledgeable. He uses power point as a teaching aid. I like the easygoing spirit he has. He races through material when we get behind. Tests are easy only if you studied the week before. Homework are graded papers, but only about one every other week or so.
He is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is always well-prepared and uses PowerPoint to lecture students. The class is not so easy though. You have to attend the class regularly to have a higher grade. However, I mostly used my notes when I studied for the exams. I would sign up for his class again.
Vogt is a hard professor. His tests are very complicated, and if you don't study for hours before a test, you won't do very well. He's a nice guy and the lectures are entertaining, but the overall class in difficult
OMG hardest class i have ever taken. His test are way to hard even though he is a very nice guy. Lab quizzes are the hardest, expect to know every little thing. He is very helpful but you need to be a BIO expert to pass.
Prof. Vogt is definitely one of the best professors I have ever had! He is hilarious and tells jokes all the time. He makes a class with challenging material so clear and fun. He is tough, but he is helpful and always available to his students. Take his class, he is great!
He is hilarious.. Although tough when he says spend 3 hours of studying a night he means it. He is one of those teachers that lives on powerpoints.
He is SUCH a great teacher. You can't slack in this class and good study habits are needed, but you learn so much from him. He's fun and he'll make you laugh and enjoy the material. I hated science before his class, but now I really understand and enjoy it.
He is a very tough teacher, but very knowledgeable. His lessons are always planned out and always flow. He does take awhile to grade, but overall very good teacher.
Professor Vogt's class is HARD, but you'll learn A LOT. If your interested in Biology and don't mind working for a good grade, he is the teacher to take. If your just looking for an easy class for a requirement, stay far away from this class.
Very hard teacher.BIO108 (non-sci majors)-Very hard & hard to understand. His grading sux. Super slow. Lab should be in middle of week, then quiz at end; not middle of next week.He did powerpoint but wouldn't post to D2L! Takes forever to return papers. Scammer! Found out was failing after refund date of class so dropped. If stayed;GPA would drop.
He is an excellent teacher and very smart. However, he expects you to study a couple hours everyday so the tests are hard. I'm taking Bio 108 and struggling right now. He can be funny though, so the classes aren't too bad to attend. Take note that this class is very hard for non science majors. Half the class dropped because they couldn't pass.
One of the best professor's I've ever had. Vogt's class is challenging. He's knowledgeable but expects students to work hard for their A's. Although his tests are relatively difficult, he offers AMPLE extra credit opportunities. If you're confused and need help he always tries to clear things up and makes himself available outside of class.
His test are super hard regardless of how much you studty. He offers NO extra credit for Bio108. Do not take this class with him!!!!
vogt is very clear the first day of class that he expects studets to study and boy do you need to study. In my class the higest grade was a 88% so i was happy with my 77%. plus he is really nice and funny.
Very good teacher. His tests are VERY hard, you must study A LOT to get good grades in his class. Overall, very knowledgable, funny, and always available for extra help.
This is a very difficult class, but Mr. Vogt is very willing to help when needed and he makes his high expectations known from the start. You will need to spend many hours studying in order to do well on his very difficult tests. I would not recommend taking this class in the summer. There is too much material to pack into that small time-frame.
Took his class over the summer and I don't recommend this course in the summer, but he is a great teacher. Even tho I got a C I'm fully prepared for anatomy. His test are harder than the average. I'm currently getting an A in anatomy and I fully believe it's because of him and his class. If he reads this I wanna say thank you!
Vogt is a great teacher. However his tests are pretty difficult and you must spend lots of time studying in school and outside of school. He is super funny, down to earth and willing to help you. You'll definitely get the grade that you earn, but it is possible to do very well if you put sincere effort and dedication into his class.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Everyday is by power points and expects us to all live by it. Takes forever to grade. Rushed out of class. So you could never gets hold of him. Tests were the hardest thing I have ever experienced. He is also very full of himself and honestly an ass at points. Not everyone is a bio major. I would not recommend this class to anyone.
Highly recommend for health science majors. Tests are brutal, they're practical applications. You must UNDERSTAND the information not just memorize it. One of the most compassionate teachers I've had. Quirky, funny, & fast paced. Heed his warnings seriously, he's not kidding. His expectations are high, I never regretted taking this class.
his tests are super hard. you have to clarly understand the material. i only passed three of his exams and i ended up getting private tutor in order to learn the material. if you go to office hrs he is always willing to help out specially if you have interest in passing. this is a good class to take if you have time to study
There is no homework. Notes are clear but to long for each section. The tests have no multiple choice questions and most aren't covered in the notes. Class should be for honors.
Hardest class ever!!! I recommend only taking 1 other class with Vogt! He is a great professor, always willing to help, but you must put the effort in. Go see him in his office, email him. Show him that you care. I cannot stress how hard this class was but it made me a better student.
He is very easy to understand, but his test are hard. Make sure you put the time in to understand the material. He is very helpful and is always willing to make sure you understand his material. Very funny and will use very interesting examples.
Mr. Vogt is an amazing teacher. I defiantly recommended him. The class is easy if you attend every lecture and never miss a class. There are a lot of notes to take, so buy a big note book! His tests and quizzes are fairly easy if you study all the notes you took in class. I will defiantly be taking him for biology 110!
He wants students to want to learn. quiz every week. exams on mostly from quizzes. 3 exams, 2 lab exams. take notes! power points aren't available online. Every lab is better than the last! Real interesting teacher; fun, funny, informative. I liked his teaching, which is why I'm ashamed I didn't study more. fairly easy
This was a v dry intense class, but he was an amazing professor. I learned so much in his class. I have used the information from his class in many of my other classes.
Mr. Vogt was one of the best teachers I have ever had! If you are serious about your education and are going into the healthcare profession, take him! He will give you a great foundation for your future bio classes! Don't expect an easy A - you HAVE to study and put the work in. He's VERY understanding and very willing to help! Great teacher!
Mr. Vogt is a very good professor. I had him for biology 108 and 110. Although his tests are hard he always gives great advice on passing his course and he's very understanding. Bio 110 was extremely hard, but that was because I missed class a lot. If you don't miss any class and attend all the labs you can easily get an A.
His tests are extremely hard so make sure you study and attend class regularly. He also throws weekly pop quizzes so be ready and read the material. Despite his hard tests, he is always willing to help and you can approach him anytime. .
He is a very tough grader, but true to grades, you get what you deserve. TESTS are hard so take good notes and study!! All over.. he is a good teacher that is funny (in a sarcastic way) and cares for his students! He is willing to help you as much as you need so I recommend going to his office hours.. prove to him that you do care!!
Very good teacher hes very nice and funny.
He's great, really. I'm taking this class over the summer at the moment and it's the hardest thing ever. But I'm actually enjoying myself. I'm getting a B right now and I've been working my butt off. I definitely recommend Vogt. So helpful and such a good person. Funny, too.
After Q's section, don't start slacking. Memorize every note you take because it will be on the test. You definitely need the lab book every day but you don't need the textbook. Try to go in outside of class to study the lab material because a lot of the slides are very similar. Don't worry too much. Everything is easier after BIO113.
I took this course in the summer so it was constantly a lot of information to cover and grasp in a short amount of time. I met during his office hours and stayed after class to get a slower, more detailed explanation of concepts I didn't understand initially. Study groups were extremely helpful and essential to me performing as well as I did.
Master in BIO, University level lecturer who's hard to keep up with; read material BEFORE-hand. Amusing & memorable demonstrations; lectures are engaging. Be on your toes, come to class prepared, be succinct when answering the short answers on exams. Use study guides, write things precisely in your notes when told to as it will be on next exam
I THOUGHT HE WAS A VERY HARD TEACHER. HE EXPECTS YOU TO BE MISERABLE AND SPEND ALL YOUR TIME STUDYING AS IF YOU DON'T HAVE OTHER THINGS TO DO. BESIDES THAT HE'S PRETTY COOL AND LAID BACK BUT HE DOES MAKE YOU WORK FOR YOUR GRADE. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IF YOU ARE JUST TRYING TO GET BY WITHOUT DOING ANY WORK.
Vogt is hilarious, but his exams are VERY challenging. Make sure you read the text before class, he will ask questions about it before beginning notes. He makes class enjoyable, but gives A LOT of context in one class, so don't take his course if you know you will have to miss a lot of class. Labs are mandatory. Overall, tough teacher, but good guy
Worst class I have ever taken. I had to go to his office hours and get help constantly and go to tutors because the way he explains things was not enough. The amount of studying I did for this class was ridculous. He treats everyone like they want to be a bio major. This is probably the hardest college class I have ever taken.
Study guides are the farthest thing from helpful. Tests are impossible, class average on one test was a 42%. Avoid this professor!!!! He is incredibly smart, but not helpful or skilled in teaching at all.
Gives you all the resources you need to pass and will help clarify things well but you have to do a lot of studying and reading on your own time.
Class wasn't too hard, I've taken A&P classes before so this stuff came pretty easy to me. His lectures are boring. His tests can be long and slightly confusing. Labs were easy. He's pretty clear with what he expected and if u do the work u shouldn't hav a problem passing the class. He is on the awkward side and tries to be funny. But I enjoyed him
He is a great teacher. He knows how to make the class laugh and even though the lectures can seem never ending, he makes it interesting and connects the lesson to real-life examples. He helps you really understand biology.
This professor is overall great teacher. He does have long lectures and hard tests but he does make lectures entertaining. He likes to joke around with personal stories he has about the material which helps understand the topic. If you do not show to class, then you are done for in this class. He does not give extra credit. And no late assignments
I took for Vogt for my first semester of college and going into the class I was a little nervous because of all the reviews on here, but after completing it, I definitely recommend Vogt for Bio. He is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. Test are a challenge, but he gives a lot of opportunities for more points (hw, quizzes online)
Vogt is an awesome teacher. He wants everyone to succeed and will help get you there. Take the opportunities to contact him for help. Class is tough, it is a lot of material. Tests are on the tough side but you need to study! Online quizzes help pull your grade up. This guy is a laugh riot! His stories are so funny.
GOOD professor, clear lectures, notes, examples and will answer any questions you have and makes class interesting . Test are difficult, you are expected to apply what you learn to real life situations in free response . Online quizzes help boost up your grade. READ before hand, come prepared, and STUDY. This class is not easy but you learn ALOT.
Great teacher! If you are ever stuck, just reach out and he will help. Lectures can run long, but taking notes is key. His quizzes are based from notes and he likes to re-use the quizzes for the actual tests. Online quizzes are a good way to keep your grades up.
Vogt expects you to read on your own, tough class if you miss class, uses the online code, he has a weird sense of humor, tough exterior but is helpful when you need it.
Pretty easy to do well in the class as long as you pay attention and take good notes. Tests and quizzes are based on lectures, so attendance is mandatory.
Vogt is honeslty a really funny guy. Whatever homework he gives is not too difficult. You rarely use the textbook, but you'll need the workbook. His test questions mostly come from the notes and quizzes, so study those and you'll be okay. He gets really excited if you volunteer answers during class.
Not only is this teacher tough but he talks to you like you were a bio pro. We are obviously taking the course to learn!! His exams are super hard, 60% of it is written portion. His study guides are no help. His rude, and does not offer extra credit.
Vogt was an awesome Bio110 teacher. He really knows how to make the subject matter understandable; makes excellent use of both lecture and lab hours. I would take another class taught by him in a heartbeat! Don't realize how good he is till ur stuck with Bell.
Professor Vogt is so funny and he does everything he can to help you succeed. The material is definitely not easy to understand, but if you go to his office hours he explains the material in more depth. Having the Laboratory manual helps a lot. Him and Doctor Qasmieh for BIO 114 are the two best combination of professors.
Professor Vogt is the kind of professor that wants you to succeed but makes you work for it. The majority of his students are nursing students, so he makes sure everyone knows the material for, as he said, "If I end up in the ER, I want you to know what you're doing". He's hilarious, and the lectures are fun. Study hard because it's a lot of stuff.
Even though his classes and tests are really hard, he is a tremendous professor with great characters and humor. He expects you to go beyond the context of the textbooks and apply the concepts to real life knowledge because he wants you to really succeed in the "healthcare profession." You have work super hard and ask a lot of questions to succeed.
Professor Vogt is pretty straightforward about expectations and grading. It really pays to know the lab book material as he wrote it and some of the testing material comes from the manual. Tests are 1/2 multiple choice and half written in Bio 110 so expect to apply the information that he's covered. If you put in the time you can do well.
Vogt is an amazing instructor. His class and tests are extremely difficult , but it has made me become a better student. He explains things very well and his lectures are interesting. He's a funny teacher and a nice guy. Be prepared to study a lot. Grades exams very fast and responds to emails quick. I would definitely take a class with him again.
Interesting lecturer, nice guy, minimal homework. Tests are very hard and require a lot of study time, and don't always reflect the lecture. He often says that for every hour in class you should study 3 hours outside of class. This is definitely necessary. His final is comprehensive- everything you learn in the beginning will be used again.
Vogt is a nice guy. You are able to witness that in his teaching style, because he likes to tell stories, interact and get to know his students. Fred is a very tough grader, he's not a teacher that generally will help students receive more points in understanding their short answers. If you don't read, you will not succeed. Be prepared/attentive.
Biology is going to be difficult no matter what professor you take it with, and Vogt is honestly one of the best professors that I've ever had in the field. If Biology is easy, not enough material is being taught. People that complain on her are most likely just bitter because of their grade.
Vogt is a nice guy in his office compared to class. In class: "Hm well if you aren't gonna interact with the class then all I see is you failing." Quizzes EVERY Wed."Weekly vitamin" If you don't study sometimes you luck out. If you do study you may still fail. No cumulative final, 2 lab exams, online homework. I got an 89% & he wouldn't bump it up
Vogt worried me at first that he would be a bit of a stickler but I think he wanted to make a stern first impression, and it worked. As long as you turn things in the way he wants, on time, and actually make a solid effort on his exams, you should be fine. Found myself laughing a lot more than i thought i would in a bio course. Take this class.
Although Mr. Vogt may be a difficult instructor, I definitely recommend him. He is very passionate about biology and teaches with precision, interest, and excellence. His methods help you refine your study habits and really show how important it is to spend time outside the classroom to study and learn. Your grade in this class mirrors your effort.
You wont like him at first but once you warm up to him you will. He's shares some good examples and metaphors and will give you another if you don't understand something. His tests were HARD tho. about 8 people in my class had to drop because they were failing. Put in some hard work, ask for help, study in the lab time and you'll pass.
I had Vogt for Plant Biology. This class is for non-majors and therefore not a botany kind of class so it is supposed to be easier. However I would say that while it is easy, It is much more detailed than I thought from the description. Vogts lecture style and labs are not the way I learn so I struggled but I think most students could do well
He is available out of class, he didn't really take attendance for lecture but he was very strict for lab. He gives good examples in his lectures. If you read the textbook and listen to his lectures you will do fine. The final is multiple choice with past exam questions.
Mr. Vogt was one of the best teachers I have taken during my time at ecc. Bio is a hard class but he makes it for everyone to learn and gives people time to learn the material before a major test. If youre going into bio for sure take him, you wont regret it!
Caring, if you care about your grade. Willing to work with you outside of class. Always an open door.
"Weekly Vitamin" quizzes. Exams were based of quizzes & notes but we never got the answers or went over quiz answers. Study guide he gives is no help on exams. He would verbally say important things that would be on quizzes/exams and would not write on board. If asked to repeat he would get angry. Only take him if have a good memory or good at bio.
He was a very odd person. I had to drop his class because his exams were very very difficult. It was hard because we only took one exam before the drop date. So basically if you do bad on the first exam and you dont have confidence in the course I would drop. Ive talked to other profs and they say he makes his exams harder than they need to be.
Really dislike this professor, I learned more from the Amoeba Sisters on Youtube than from him. Your grade only relies on test which he chunks chapters together by the time you're done learning the 3rd chapters you've already forgotten the first 2. The only thing I like was that we were let out early most of the time. Wouldnt recommend him.
Professor Vogt is one of my favorite professors to date. If you do not put in the work and effort, you will not do well. He's knowledgable, cares and respects education, and gives you the tools you need to do well in this course. The concepts you learn in this class are applied to all advanced biology classes, so you should care and try.
He will not post your grade until finals week. You should attend class or you won't pass- lectures every day and labs are big! He has a very strict first impression but really he just wants to make people laugh but he barely laughs, or smiles, himself. He is very intelligent but it comes off like we are suppose to have as much knowledge as he has.
His tests are so much harder than what you learn. He will give lectures, assign videos to watch, make you read the textbook, but the stuff he asks on exams is so tough and something you could never think of. Acts like his students are bio teachers too. Such a bad professor please please do not take him.
Took his class online due to the pandemic, the virtual labs are so long and very confusing. YOU NEED TO KEEP TRACK OF YOUR GRADE he will not update anything on d2L. His lectures are useless because trust me, YOU WILL BE LOST while taking the exams. PLEASE take someone else. His jokes and sarcasm are not funny. and he requires a camera to be on
If you like having exams every week this class is perfect for you. Many exams, lectures, labs and homework quizzes. Fail one and get ready to struggle for the rest of the semester. Many questions of the exams do not make sense. He lectures part of the material and you have to do the rest on your own. Good person but make sure you pay attention.
Professor Vogt is easily the best professor I've had at ECC so far. He really made online learning work for this class. He gives super clear directions and lists of what to do every week and even though he likes to put out a mean front he's hilarious. He's super nice and understanding and is always willing to help students out!
I took Mr. Vogt online due to COVID and he is a cool guy but as a teacher especially online he is not very good. Unclear as to what is actually going to be on exams, he forgets his own due dates and at the end of the semester pushed exams earlier that what the syllabus went by. He is just very unclear and tries to teach beyond what is needed.
Took Vogt due to the pandemic & it was not easy at all. He does not do reviews for exams and tries to cram a lot into lecture which half of the information is not even on the exams. His tests are in a structure of application in the pov if you were a biologist. Cool guy but as a teacher, very unclear and inconsiderate of student life in a pandemic.
If you're looking for a professor that understands the workload you have already, you've gone to the wrong place. I had him in person/online because of COVID. He is the reason for most of my freshman breakdowns/almost first C. Tests are obnoxiously difficult, pop quizzes even worse. The way he emails is snarky & rude. He does not care about you.
Lectures won't help on the test. It's not specific, thorough, or helpful; it's more helpful to just read and take notes on the book itself. No grades put into D2L. Doesn't put quizzes up until a random time the day of (I checked the same day once and it wasn't there until late). Condescending when you ask questions. Even his answers are wrong.
This is coming from a person who doesn't really like science. Professor Vogt is a great professor. His lectures are interesting to watch and they really help you with the exams. Labs are due Thursdays (don't wait till the last minute to complete). If you do well on the quizzes, you will be fine on the exams. He's also not a tough grader.
A lot of assignments with due times at weird hours (5pm, 11pm) and does not follow Schedule online, he emails each week what is due. "Vitamin" is based on lecture so make sure you listen to even to weirdest details (example- someones favorite animal). Besides all of that his lectures teach SO much and he is extremely helpful. I learned so much!
Listen to the one/two star ratings. Doesnt answer emails, not clear with grading and grades harshly, lectures do not help with quizzes and tests. Also be aware of quizzes popping up during random days of the week and be prepared to take exams on Sundays. Please stay away from this class if you can.
The thing I struggled with the most was the random due dates in this class. I always forgot that the assignments were due at 5:00pm instead of 11:59. The grading was a little harsh. I got points deducted from onw of my projects because of sloppy cutting. I think if I were to have taken this class in person I would've had a better experience.
Organized weekly tasklist. Responsive. If u keep w pace, its an easy class. Qs on the quizzes will prepare u 4 exams! His Vitamin quizzes are closely related to lectures. Ive struggled w lab classes before but the info clicked in this course. The real world connections was my fav part. He wants 2 see u connect the dots. Hes an all around smart dude
Here's how to succeed: (1) LISTEN TO LECTURES! There is a ton of info on test/quizzes that is found only in his lectures (2) Do the practice quizzes in Pearson - some test questions are straight up copied from these practice quizzes (3) GO TO OFFICE HOURS! I'm not a science major, but he's my fav prof by far! Would love to take more of his classes
I could never get a good read of him. He was nice if you were in a small group, but talking to the whole class was kind of condescending. Class is very lecture heavy, lots of reading, grade is dependent on labs and tests. Barely gives extra credit and if it is available is only offered to a few.
It was hard to get a good read on him as a person, but he was always willing to help out. He gave a clear list of what was to be done every week on Sunday's. When you had an issue with taking a test he was willing to try and help you out or give you another chance to take it. You keep track of your own grade if you don't want it to be a surprise.
He is awesome and always ready to help outside class hours. He encourages his students to be better all the time. BIO 110 was a difficult course, but Mr. Vogt made the class more bearable. Just get ready to study every day. Take notes in class while also listening to him. Trust me you will pass.
Vogt was honestly one of the best Biology professors I've had at ECC. I took his Bio 108 class and it was fun. He incorporates a lot of humor into his lectures, the class is lecture heavy but you learn a lot if you pay attention. Weekly "vitamin" quizzes aren't too bad, and exams aren't too difficult. Labs are always the "best lab of the semester"!
Vogt is clear on what he wants from his students. Vogt is practical, but talks fast in his lectures. Bio 110 was a tough one and you really need to go through lots of studying and reading outside of class. If you are all about the easy A then this class is NOT for you. Vogt stresses that he is ready to help when you need it.
always helpful if you wanted to meet with him outside of class hours. the class is a LOT of taking notes and thoroughly understanding the material, but he gives out study guides and like i mentioned, always willing to help out.
Overall the course was amazing, but the class itself is very challenging but prepares you well for going into pre-med. Exam heavy but if you put in the work along with keeping up with notes the class itself is very doable.
Vogt was always super friendly and his lectures were well thought out and easy to understand. Plus funny. There was a lot of quizzes and tests, but they were never super difficult. He gives study guides too, which were super helpful. Always keep past quizzes and tests to study because he reuses questions!! Would recommend
Professor Vogt is really nice but his class is very hard. Weekly quizzes that are 15 questions usually every Wednesday and four unit exams throughout the semester that are 50 questions each. The quizzes and exams are very challaning and you really need to take good notes and do the study guides in order to have a chance at success on those.
Great lectures, a few papers and lab quizzes, and the occasional unit test. The labs were the best part, with him taking very real interest in the subject. Very good professor!
Very funny, labs are fun, class isnt too tough
Overall hes not a bad teacher but he tests excessively (about 7 tests including the lab quizes which weigh as much as a test) and the test are long and hard. You have to study every day and thoroughly understand everything, there is no leeway at all. But he generally wants to help and see students succeed besides this.
Fast paced lectures and lots of tests but his study guides are very detailed and he provides lots of study resources. He gets to know his students and makes his lectures funny and engaging. He encourages students to ask for help and enthusiastically answers questions. Overall, I enjoyed his class, and feel he really cares about his students!
Despite Vogt's tough personality I grew to like him. Class is very test heavy with all the information coming from lectures. The majority of your grade is dependent these tests and quizes, but plenty of study material is provided. The majority of his low rating comes from people not used to strict, no nonsense professors. Show up and youll pass.
Professor Vogt is one of the best professors I have had at ECC. He showcases what teaching should be in a college course setting. He expects you to do the work, learn the material, and complete assignments. Straightforward learning with great lectures. I recommend his class to any student who is willing to learn not just trying to get an easy A.
Strict professor, fantastic teacher. I learned so much from his class. Not everyone appreciated his dry sense of humor but I thought he was downright hilarious. This class is no-nonsense. Show up on time, have your work prepared, and take notes. Bring a stapler. Four unit tests, two lab quizzes. If you pay attention, they shouldn't be too hard.
I took Professor Vogt during the fall semester of 24' and this teacher was nothing short of amazing, he actually cares for his students and their grades. His lectures were memorable and funny. The course work is a bit challenging, but he will get you up to speed whenever you need it. Overall amazing teacher you'll never find one quite like Vogt.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU ALREADY HAVE DIFFICULTY DIGESTING BIOLOGY! If you are pretty confident with biology, by all means, you will thrive in this class. But if you already struggle to grasp concepts, this course will make you regret every decision up to that point. Please take this warning!
I would not recommend taking Professor Vogt's class, if you're already having a hard time digesting the information. He expects his students to know the material beforehand, and get quizzed and exam every Wednesday. Furthermore, he won't let you retake any of his assessments, so you better in luck studying, otherwise, you will fail this course!!
He's a nice guy for the most part, the test were super hard in my opinion. they are multiple choice but it's like a-e and each answer is the same just one word difference. He's helpful and will offer it when needed. his class is mainly notes so if you're more hands on and a visual learner this probably isn't the best for you.
Honestly some people may have not liked him, but I had gone through mutiple professor for Bio 110 and he is one that is actually willing to explain and talk to you about what you can do to fix your mistake. Gave many opportunity for extra points, everything was graded for points small assignments and everything.
PROS: (1) Interactive lectures; expects student responses. (2) Accessible out of class; patient with students. (3) Wants to see you succeed, but also expects serious effort. CONS: (1) Initially intimidating; get to know the guy. (2) Few grade buffers; mostly reading quizzes and exams. (3) Exams require analytical understanding and lateral thinking.
Overall, He is a fun prof to have! He slips a lot of jokes in his lectures and does goofy things in them. I will say that if he asks a question and no one answers, he will wait till someone does. He does have an "extra" credit packet as well. Make sure you write down whats on his slides but also what he says, and if you miss it, ask for it again!
He was a really good professor but also really strict. Prepare to take many notes and stay on top of your work. I passed the class with a C and that was honestly my fault. I've had a D throughout most of the semester but towards the end I started locking in and managed to pass the class with a C.
Very strict, to the tune of one letter grade deducted if he catches you with your phone out. I did a hybrid class where labs were irl and (recorded) lectures + tests/quizzes were online... in practice this meant tests were open book/open internet, no system in place to stop cheating. Attendance is MANDATORY. Labs were decently fun at times
