speaks very fast; slides are always blurry and hard to see even in front;
Very enthusiastic about the course material.
Concise and well prepared
I can't wait to take a course with him again.
makes lectures very interesting rather than dull.
There aren't many profs you can just talk to, great guy!
Hard to leave his class not wanting to take another course with him
Has a mean left hook. I tried to take him down, but he got me in a leg lock.
Good professor. Nice guy. Liked him alot.
More down-to-earth than the other 107 profs, but rather loud and boisterous.
NICEST BIO TEACHER EVER
wasserman is the man!
SO NICE
He is awesome. Very helpful and he actually cares about his students and wants them to do well.
if you want to see a bunch of pictures of birds, then this is the class for you
this guy is amazing. sooo nice. i have him as an academic advisor, he's very helpful and down to earth.
loud and obnoxious. take his class if you like looking at pics of birds.
Sprained his wrist first day of my class, kept teaching for the entire period. Nice, but can be confusing.
so far... very good and I've heard he's wonderful. I'm all about the interactive classroom he gets going.
interactive and you cant sleep cause he'll call on you, but maybe thats a good thing
Great guy really trys to get students involved in the course and actively draws you into the class.
he's a really cool teacher..best lecturer i've had. VASSERMANN!
Boring as hell! We spent 2 days on Hardy-Weinberg, while he tried to explain how to square a decimal! Uses too many boring examples, and does not focus enough on concepts. At least we can sleep through the movies ...
Very good lecturer.. I love going to his class. He is very interactive so pay attention or he'll call on you. Good at demonstrating material instead of just retelling it to the class. Definately take him
Not a big fan of the class in general. He spends no time on actual concepts, only examples and then he tests over those examples. So if you don't want to go to class or fall asleep in class you won't do well. Kind of funny though.
Very Helpful
Very nice man. Spends a lot of time on interesting examples which is good because it helps to explain the concepts that for some are hard to grasp. His movies are really cool too!!
awesome guy...he makes a potentially boring topic interesting. always keeps you on your toes too. he really wants to get to know the students too.
He is not that great of a lecturer. Sometimes he'll end up even confusing himself, but he is still able to make the concepts clear and easy.
A very easy guy to talk with, Wasserman explains interesting examples and tests only on lecture material - SO PAY ATTENTION! He often calls on people who are sleeping...so sleepers beware! Take his class. You'll enjoy it.
talk to him. he really knows his stuff. he's a BIG help.
He's a pretty good teacher, very into the topic, but he spends too much time on just examples w/out really explaining the concepts.
I love Wasserman! I'm a bio major, but after hearing Schneider for the first 4 weeks, I was starting to change my mind. Professor Wasserman really made me love it again and was so interesting and funny! Plus he shows "little films" that are alwa
He's funny but he purposly walks up and down the aisles to pick on those who are sleeping and doing other work. To target these ppl.. he puts on examples from class on the test.. so if you don't pay attention you're screwed! But good overall
A very bad course. On tests, he cares more that you have memorized his examples than that you know any actual biology. I was considering majoring in BIO, but after taking his portion of the 107 class, I am now a physics major. GO physics!
Wasserman's interest in birds and poor teaching is reflected throughout his lousy lectures and apparent enthusiasm, which actually inhibits the opportunity to learn the material we should be learning!
Wasserman is an interesting lecturer, but his tests focus on examples that he pulls directly from his slides. Study his slides! He does not however extend the concepts that are illustrated in his examples to the rest of biology. Office hours are key.

obsessed with birds but really knows his stuff- has great, very entertaining movies, tests were fair and is a good lecturer-- don't take 107 if you tend to fall asleep in class- he will embarass you in front of everyone
Tests can be pretty hard, but he is explains material well. As noted before DON'T fall asleep in clas!!!
Great teacher, really knows what he's talking about. It was one of the only classes I had to look forward to having. The test is fair. One of my favorite teachers this semester.
I think Wasserman is the best of the 4 lecturers for BI 107. It's so easy to follow his lectures, and he makes sure everyone knows Hardy Weinburg before moving on. His movies are really interesting!
Doesn't focus on the content at all. His test is pointless because all it does is test you on his examples; what happened, rather than why. Don't try and learn the concepts, you'll do bad on the test. Because of the rotation in bi 107, you will have him at some point. So annoying...
go to lecture. and definitely definitely go to student-to-student. it will guarantee you a good grade. kind of jumpy going to lecture if you dont know wth is going on, but he expects you to since you're in the class. the book is useless for his section.
I don't like this guy. All he does is examples and the tests are completely on them, so if you don't go to the lecture, you're screwed!!! Schneider rocks!
Great professor, not only took the time to learn my name out of a class of 500 students also was extremly helpful during office hours.
Very nice guy, knows his stuff. Tests can be a breeze if you study in the right manner by reviewing all of the specific examples he gives out in class; dont even bother looking at the book when studying. It is essential to pay attention in class to do well in this course.
Not too bad of a teacher. He uses a lot of examples and he asks a lot of questions to the class and picks on students. His test wasn't too hard though
Pay attention in lecture and you're set for the exams.
the only hard part was the lab reports, besides that the lectures were clear, and he makes the class really interesting. i def. recommend it!
fun and interesting man, but lectures are so disorganized and consist of randomly strewn videos and articles. there are no assignments, grade is based on two tests and a lab grade. has a tendency to teach his opinions rather than scientific fact. but yes, funny man. interesting course.
Best Bio professor ever! He is so clear and thorough, but still fun! He makes boring concepts interesting, and he is always willing to provide extra help. No wonder he won the Metcalf Cup. I definitely recommed him.

Informative, engaging, lectures make attendance worthwhile. Image-heavy presentations emphasize examples, guide notetaking. Teacher enthusiastic (about birds, at least) and eager to help. A good start to BI107.
Very funny and interesting and nice. Also he is almost the spitting-image of Hyman Roth from Godfather II. Expect to infer a lot of things form his visual-style of presentation. Good overall.
Incredibly interesting guy, by far the best Biology professor in BI 107. Really immerses you in the topics he teaches, has the best powerpoint presentations. However, can be a bit disorganized, and I have to admit I've found his exams to be harder than the other Biology professors' exams. But he is bound to get you interested in the class/your major
I enjoyed his enthusiastic, clear interest in his subject, yet felt he was talking a mile a minute but never saying anything. For a course like BI 107, you need a straight (ORGANIZED) lecturer.. like Traniello or Primack.. no coincidence that the average on W's test was by far the lowest of the 3
Fred is extremely passionate about the materials he teaches, and therefore, is very easy to be carried away by the topics about which he felt emotional. Be prepared to watch tons of funny videos in the class. The slides he posted are not that easy, but the readings he assigned are. He sort of tells you some of the exam questions in class.
Wasserman is extremely enthusiastic and passionate about the subject matter and his evolutionary beliefs. He backs up everything he teaches with biological evidence. Brilliant speaker/professor. Honestly, he is one of the top three professors I've had at BU
He is really great, enthusiastic to his core and definitely understands the material unlike anyone else. A creative teacher.
Interesting class, even if you're not quite intrigued by eco classes (I'm not). Only prof i've had who actually TRIED to get us to do well. Really really concerned about our level of understanding & our general feelings. Loves participation!! Really willing to help if you ask, but lectures are really clear also. Tests short answer.
One of the first science prof. I've had who really seemed interested in teaching undergrads. Class was interesting, challenging and dare I say, FUN. This guy rocks!
great teacher
nooo noo noo. Dont you dare try this nutcase... he will try to be entertaining, he is a bit nutz has little jokes and corny comparisons. But his tests are hard and the guy's on something. expect to see him make an arse of himself durin lectures and get brain numbingly bored...memorize the book/his presentations
Very nice guy, but focuses a lot on birds. Memorize powerpoint examples, especially the bird ones. Go to class but don't bother reading the book.
Really sweet guy. Take him for Core Biology if you can, he's really easy.
Great guy! Very passionate about what he's teaching. His exams are tough so STUDY! Focus on his slides more than the textbook. He also makes himself really available to student so take advantage of that.
BU gives out two awards per year to outstanding profs--Wasserman won them both. In the same year. I cant understand why. Hes a nice guy, obviously very intelligent and knowledgeable. However, he goes off on wild tangents & neglects to fully explain concepts. Basically incomprehensible at times and sometimes doesnt even speak in sentences.
I had Prof Wasserman for 107, 302 (vert zoo) and 407 (animal behavior). If you had him for 107 only I'd say that you missed out on how great a professor he really is. He's human - he has typos on his handouts, digresses every now and then - but these things don't end up hurting you on exams. loved the recent articles, the videos, and the debates.
He's really passionate about the subject and he tries to make it interesting, but he jumps from topic to topic really quickly. You have to go to class if you want a good grade. Tests are hard--the average for my class was a 66.
Wonderful teacher, one of the best teachers I have had over my entire life, he is really interested in what he teaches, and he really, really, really wants you to do well in his class, so if you go to lecture and pay attention to all the fun movies and stories, you will do fantastic and have a good time
He is engaging and interesting, but tends to jump from topic to topic and go off on wild tangents. Tests are easy because it is rediculously easy to figure out exactly what questions will be on them. Overall, his course was good but not hugely helpful.
Wasserman is a nice guy, but this class is impossible. LAB IS EXTREMELY TIME CONSUMING!!! AVOID THIS CLASS!!!
Wasserman really enjoys teaching and wants you to understand everything. Tests are easy if you go to lecture and make sure to pay attention to the movies. Easy to figure out what he is going to ask on the test. Labs are pointless and the independent project is time consuming but overall not a bad way to fulfill a bio requirement.
I seriously cannot stand him... he makes no sense and just babbles on for the whole class about seemingly unrelated topics.
wasserman is great! he's passionate about what he teaches and it makes you enjoy lecture. for the test just study the examples he used in class, you don't even really need to study from the book. i would advise reading the book first though, just because he jumps around quickly in class.
He's a decent professor, certainly not the greatest out of the 107 professors. Jumps around a lot to unrelated topics so just be warned. For the test know examples, examples, examples...thats it
Great professor. Really passionate about teaching and makes going to lecture worthwhile. Test was tricky, but overall the class was enjoyable.
Most enthusiastic out of the BI107 lecturers. His exam wasn't the easiest, but it wasn't tough either. He makes it clear what will be on the exam, so attend lecture.
You'd be lucky to have this guy as a professor. Nice, intelligent, caring, enthusiastic. One of the best at BU.
Great guy. Makes lecture really interesting and tries his best to get you to like the subject. I know significantly more about Ecology than I did before. Those people in my class who criticized his lecture style generally got really bad grades on his exam. I think they're comments say more about them than about Fred.
Awesome
One of the nicest professors I've had at BU, will go out of his way to help students and get his points across. Sometimes lecture can seem a little convoluted but when he spends extra time on a topic it usually means it will be on the test. Ornithology is every other science course you have taken mixed into one you also get to study dinosaurs cool
I highly recommend taking this course. Professor Wasserman is by far one of the best, if not the best professor I have ever had. Some people have problems with him because they do not put the effort in. if he sees you are putting in the effort, he will give u the appropriate grade. He shows lots of videos and tells u exam content. highly recommend
PROFESSOR WASSERMAN WAS AMAZING! THE NICEST, FUNNIEST, SWEETEST, MOST PASSIONATE PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD AT BU! HE LOVES WHAT HE TEACHES AND DOES A GREAT JOB TEACHING IT. LECTURES ARE INTERESTING AND TESTS ARE EASY IF YOU TAKE GOOD NOTES AND PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANY CLASS OF HIS :)
Good professor, he does a good job of keeping the class engaging. Pay attention in lecture, especially the examples he gives, and you'll do fine. Nice guy with a sense of humor.
Awesome professor! Highly recommend his class!
One of the best professors and best courses at BU! Wasserman genuinely cares about his students and wants you to do well. Highly recommended.
GREAT JOKES BUT SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE HE SPEAKS IN A MONOTONE
Absolutely wonderful! Genuinely cares about students and presents subject material in a way that makes it interesting and easy to understand. I would highly recommend any class with him! He is such an amazing professor, one of the best at BU.
very knowledg!!! great prof; interesting lectures; dont need to read a lot; exams not very easy- know examples; shows many videos- making the class easier. hard class but he is very nice and helpful!!!
I was most impressed with Prof Wasserman's enthusiasm with Biology. It was fun to have a class where the teacher was still excited about his field. Go to class, pay attention, print his slide and take notes, enjoy the Nova clips and you'll do fine. Labs are confusing and not in sync with class tho.
Love this man. I'm an English major who took 107 for the req, and it was so amazing I took 407 just to have another class w/ him. If you go to class, you have to really be consciously trying to not do well. Enthusiastic, interesting, straightforward, and fair. The lab isn't bad at all, either.
Wasserman is awesome!! So enthusiastic and wants everyone to do well. Great class to take over the summer.
Professor Wasserman is by far the best biology professor I have had at BU. He lets you know exactly what he expects you to know for the test. A poor grade in his class means you just didn't try. Exams are written and are very long.generous grader, passionate teacher, interesting lectures. I would recommend this class to ANYONE!
Engaging lecturer, boring course material though. No textbook use whatsoever, but he constantly hints to the questions on exams. just print out the powerpoints and take notes on them and you'll do fine.
The exam was totally based on lectures. The student2student tutoring review sessions were a must before the exam! Great resources are given and if they're taken advantage of you can exit his portion of bio with one of the highest grades in the class.
Such and interesting class! Wasserman is great! We just discuss different papers and then watch movies on them. The discussion is a lot of fun & he tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests! Do NOT even buy the book, it's all from lecture. He also goes through many controversial papers and lets you form your own opinion which is nice.
Very knowledgeable in his subject, but he talks very fast and it can be difficult to follow him. Tests were very specific to examples given in lecture. Gives many hints to what is on the tests throughout lecture.
Don't bother buying the textbook because all you need are the powerpoints. Wasserman tells you exactly what will be on each test. Take notes, study hard, and you'll get a good grade.
Great, great professor. Best I've ever had. Super caring guy. If you make any effort, he will match it to help you learn and achieve. The more you put in, the more you get out of it -- the way it should be. If you screw up, he understands and tries to help you fix it.
Best professor I've ever had in every aspect. He is so excited & enthusiastic about the material-he really loves birds. Long written exams but could not be more fair-he told us about 90% of the questions that were going to be on the exam. Very smart, very funny, sweet, sweet guy. Honestly cares about his students. I plan on taking all his courses
don't buy tb, use powerpoint. incredibly amazing man, knows his stuff, passion for birds is there, makes class interesting and fun, watch movies. so sweet and helpful, tells most of test q's prior to exam. if you want to actually LEARN at BU and have a great time with an amazing prof, take any of Wasserman's classes
He knows his material and I was really enjoying the class but he wasn't very helpful in assisting outside of lecture. I was looking for support and guidance on the material but he was too busy too help and seemed annoyed at the request.
I love this man! He has great, old man humor and he is incredibly interested in his area of study. He's a great lecture; a rarity at BU!
He's pretty straight-forward & his tests aren't too hard. Slides are posted but go to lecture - he tells you what to focus on when you study. He LOVES examples, so study those! Pretty easy.
Professor Wasserman is a great professor. There is no doubt he knows his stuff. If your a student who likes to study from slides and lecture notes than this is the class for you. I came into this class open minded but found it much more challenging, the material is great its just you have to study without much guidance. Good info fun videos
He was interested in what he was teaching and his tests needed great detail
one of the best professors at BU. classes are very interesting and involve a mix between lecture and videos. BOOK IS NOT USED so do not buy it. Labs are cool and almost never take 3 hours. Tests can be challenging but he often tells you that certain things will be on the exam. If you are a bio major you should take this class
Wasserman was enthusiastic, fine. He was also disorganized, constantly rushing through powerpoint slides without explaining them properly, rude to students who asked reasonable questions, and generally seemed self absorbed. Tests was near impossible and rarely focused on important concepts. Memorize details of his examples if you want the grade.
As a sophomore in this class, and having prior experience with professors at this university, Wasserman is definitely one of the best. Explains everything, and tells what to know, tests are based off lecture and there are a billion bioportal resources to use. overall great professor and person. love the guy.
I took his ecology class over the summer. summer classes are long, however he did an amazing job of making sure you know what he wants you to know. His tests were extremely fair. He tells you ALL of the questions on the exam and it is really just memorization. If you like written exams where you just spit back out whatever you memorized, he's great
He is a nice guy, friendly, cheerful, and overall fun to talk to. His lectures are interesting. However, his tests are terrible. He writes questions on insignificant details from the powerpoints, and it is near impossible to find/study every single one. I recommend coming into this course with prior knowledge of Biology.
While he is quite a fun teacher, he is very disorganized with his material and rushes through slides, half of which he fails to explain. Yet, you are expected to know details (DO ALL EXAMPLES) for his exams, which are hard. Not the best professor to start Intro. Bio with.
This was my favorite class! He expects you to remember each important experiment covered in class, especially the graphs and what they mean. If you understand the material and study, this isn't so hard. Be prepared to be tested on small details. He is extremely interesting and very helpful. If you don't like memorization, don't take his class.
Loved his teaching. He had lots of pictures and videos to make things interesting and he always points out specific things that would be on the exams.
Awful. Teaches examples with no overarching concepts to tie them together. Powerpoints are disorganized and hard to make sense of, yet you are expected to memorize every detail in them for exams, despite the fact that you get nothing intellectually out of doing so, other than memorization skills. Come on, this is college, not grade school.
WHAT HAPPENED??! He was my advisor and so sweet up until I took this class! He became unhelpful in office hours, and interrupted me while I asked a question in class. Then, he just flat out refused to see me when I asked to clear up some questions a week before the final. This class is too challenging if he isn't going to be a helpful professor.
Wasserman's videos are amazingly interesting. He has a lot of unnecessary info on his slides, but I guess that helps him. It's really important to note down everything he mentions even though it's not on the slides because it will be on the test, which can make it tricky, but it's definitely manageable. I enjoyed him.
Wasserman is extremely enthusiastic about the topics he teaches in BI107, however his power points can get confusing, as there is way too much unnecessary info on them. His exam is mainly based on lectures (but not all of the tiny details on his slides). I would recommend going to the S2S tutor sessions for his exam.. tells which details to know.
I took this course during the summer. It was much easier due to the extra time to study. Exams are extremely fair and only cover what was taught in lecture. There is a lot of information, but Wasserman presents it in examples, which are easy to remember. If you work hard to study and complete lab assignments, you will get a good grade.
He's really nice and outgoing. He loves using examples so pay attention to those.
Wasserman is a superb lecturer. He is very energetic and has a voice that carries across the lecture hall. The only issue I had with him is that he would not give much time for clicker questions, and sometimes, he would have clicker questions at the very beginning of lecture, so if you were coming from another class, you would miss them.
Very energetic and enthusiastic about what he teaches. He follows the textbook, but also incorporates a lot of examples about relevant research. One of the problems is that he heavily incorporated his examples on the exam although he briefly went over them in lecture. Questions are heavily detailed. A fair course if you put enough time to study
Wasserman's a great lecturer and very straightforward with his examples. Likewise, he tries very hard to help you out with the clicker questions and asks if he needs to repeat something. Do watch out since he loves to use his personal examples from his lectures on the exam.
Material was really fascinating & it was refreshing to be in a class where the teacher loves the material AND teaching. Makes lectures hilarious and easy to pay attention to. Don't skip ANY classes, record ALL lectures. Exams are unnecessarily stressful bc it's all memorization and not telling us what to memorize. Lab is fun, but reports are tough.
Super boring, can't pronounce normal words, least interesting class I've ever taken.
Extremely easy exams.
Tests you on random examples he gives in class instead of the actual content you might use further down the line. Very frustrating.
If you are a Bio major, take this class. Ecology is interesting and at times challenging. The Professor let the class choose what is going to be on the test . If you have to be absent or late, let him know. Your success is top priority. Students are so privileged to have such a wonderful Professor at BU. Don't miss out! Take your chance!
While attendance doesn't matter, he does like full participation for those who attend and will call on names. However material is interesting and the videos are enjoyable. He tells you possible test questions, so attending class makes the exam easier to prepare for. He wants his students to succeed and will hold office hours after class to clarify.
If you go to his office hours consistently, he will let you pick what is on the exam and will tell you EVERY question that he will put on there. I wish I knew before the first exam that he did that. I got 100 on the second exam. Go to office hours and you'll get an A. Simple. He calls on people in class to answer questions. Lab is easy.
Vert zoo was very evolution heavy, so be warned. Lectures were okay, lab was tedious albeit comprehensive. Attendance encouraged, didn't open the textbook. Wasserman is kind and understanding and really loves what he does even if the material wasn't very interesting. Lecture exams are easy - he clearly emphasizes what he wants you to know for them.
6 testsentire grade. 3 lab/3 lecture. Fred is a really nice guy & obviously a very smart guy. Sometimes slides are confusing and can be very detailed. Prepare to memorize for both lab and lecture. The upside is that Fred gives you most lecture test questions beforehand. Don't take if you're not willing to commit time. Overall interesting course.
Dr. Wasserman is probably one of the friendliest professors I've had. He is funny and makes lectures interesting by showing videos and interacting with the class. Overall just a really great professor and a fun class.
Prof Wasserman is a super sweet lecturer. He's very enthusiastic about the material, so that makes it easier to digest what he's talking about. His specific examples are all over his test.
Very fun and enthusiastic about Biology. He teaches his material well and has a wealth of videos to enforce concepts. BI107 is fun when Prof. Wasserman teaches. Enjoy that feeling while you can because the exam will throw you for a LOOP. There are so many example-specific questions on his exam so pay attention and study his lectures thoroughly.
Prof Wasserman's class was my all time favorite class I've taken at BU. He is very enthusiastic about the topic and shows lots of videos. He really wants everyone to succeed. He'll tell you everything you need to know for the exams. If you can, take a class with him. Best professor in the bio department.
Prof. Wasserman is a really kind professor. In office hours he will go over exactly what will be on the exams. Lectures can be a little slow, but the papers are interesting, he shows cool videos, and you can tell he really loves what he is doing, which makes the students love it too. Be ready to participate in lectures, he WILL call on you!
Seriously awesome and personal in regards to approaching the material! Dr. Wasserman really strives to get students motivated and individuals who take an upperlevel course with him will certainly reap the rewards. Do watch out since many classes like BI302 are graded by only a few things (often only exams) so make sure to stay on task!
loves his subject, great professor, wants you to do well
His lectures are very example heavy and so was his exam. Overall though, he was super funny and nice, and I actually miss him as a lecturer. Some moments can be dull, but he wants you to do well and will bluntly let you know what's important and what's not for his share of the course.
At first I was nervous about his lectures because they were just examples, but his tests are EXACTLY like his lectures. As long as you study every example he gives and memorize them you will do well on the test. Also he makes it clear to tell you what you do and don't need to know for the exam, so just listen to him and you'll be fine.
Amazing professor and human !!! Very clear and interesting !!! Best 107 professor
Wasserman is a legend in the bio department, a genuinely caring and fair professor all around. Exams are all in the form of long responses, but very doable if the work is put in. Also a plus in big classes at BU, he actually learns your name and gets to know you. The material is super interesting, and he adds new studies all the time. A cool dude!
Professor wasserman is very old fashion he expects students to know all the figures and being able to explain them in details. He stated that: he likes to teach more than you need to know. Hes a tough grader, the lectures are very long and so are the test that can last 3 hours. Very exhausting!
cold-called this kid in lecture and it was so stressful for everyone involved, not sure how i feel about that
Prof. Wasserman is very lively and loud - def will not put you to sleep. Got an 85 on his exam and only studied the night before, but make sure to know ALL of the examples! His test is pure examples. BEWARE that TAs might not be accurate about what's on his exam - some things they told us to study ended up being almost irrelevant and vice versa.
Professor Wasserman is a fantastic lecturer; he is seriously passionate about biology and is accessible outside of class. He will get to know you. Don't be surprised if he calls on you in lecture. The exam threw me for a HUGE loop, however - all of his examples from his lectures were on there. Don't make the mistakes I did. KNOW EVERY EXAMPLE.
First of four professors. He has entertaining lectures that are packed with detail but sometimes hard to follow. He is very sweet and wants to see his students succeed. He will tell you some of the details on the exam and it is imperative to know his examples, so study the powerpoints. Take the S2S advice with a grain of salt and study the details
The lecture material is extremely interesting. The grade is determined by lab + 3 exams. Each exam takes 2-3 hours and can be aced mostly through pure memorization. Fred comes across as friendly, but he's not exactly nice. He's very much a I've-been-doing-this-for-40-years professor who doesn't consider anything from the student's perspective.
He's very enthusiastic about the subject matter, so it was super fun to learn from him. He presented everything in a straightforward manner, and has interesting videos. You have to know literally everything that came up in lecture for the tests, though. Sometimes he'll tell you exactly what examples will come up on the test, so pay attention!
Dr. Wasserman is a lovely first professor ! He was the first lecturer I had my freshman year and although sometimes he can go a bit fast and you might sometimes wonder why you are going over some highly specific stuff, he's actually a great professor. I definitely want to take him again for higher level courses, even though he's not in my field.
Dr. Wasserman is so passionate about animal behavior and bird behavior. He tries to make his lectures really appealing even to students who do not have that much interest in ornithology. He tries to encourage participation during class and does this really well. He is really approachable by email or OH. He is also a nice person in terms of grading.
One of the most disorganized and unnecessary lecturers. He will rant about things irrelevant to the class so much so it will confuse you and not consider the lab as the same course. Get ready to memorize a ridiculous amount of taxonomic data for lab, you will not pass if you dont study for a crazy amount of hours
go to lectures and take good notes. Know the examples and specifics in the slides. He will tell you exactly what you need to know and will specify what examples will be on the exam. Don't need to read or refer to textbook as he often disagrees with the textbook anyway.
When teaching evolution, Wasserman consistently called religious beliefs stupid. There is a way to effectively teach the theory of evolution without bashing other world viewsjust teach the theory of evolution. Close minded and intolerant and truthfully embarrassing for an institution that stands for inclusion of all beliefs. Average overall.
Professor Wasserman is an amazing lecturer. His lectures are never boring because he gives very interesting examples about the topic. Thus, his tests are heavily based on his lectures. If you skip class, you will not pass, and if you do not pay attention to little details, you will miss a couple of questions on his tests. Would recommend.
Wasserman made BI107 during COVID-19 amazing. He cared about each and every student and made absolutely sure we knew what we were talking about. His lectures were clear and informative, and he was very rowdy and entertaining when he talked. He worked with others' schedules and knew that a lot of us were stressed during these times. Recommended!
Professor Wasserman is one of the only teachers at BU that genuinely wants his students to learn the given material rather than trying to "test you". He is so passionate about what he teaches and makes it very clear what he expects from you. Truly wish more professors were like him.
one quiz at the end of the week is basically your only grade, there are only 10 questions and you take it on a platform that records your video and audio, and the professors never shared that with us, I had to look it up myself. These quizzes ruin the class and prof Wasserman makes the quiz extra confusing.
This man is a GEM and must be protected at all costs. He is caring, approachable, and really wants you to do well. Praises female colleagues for their undervalued research, and lecture is interesting and filled with videos. So kind.
So many wonderful things to say. He is such a great professor. Truly, genuinely cares about all his students. Respectful and encouraging to all and an absolute sweetheart. Funny, pure, supportive. A 12/10. A good egg. The absolute best.
Wasserman is super nice and definitely loves biology. For the most part his lectures are straight forward, but he isnt the most engaging. His reading assignments hardly line up with the lectures. The content is easy but his quizzes will ask you about a random video he showed rather than the actual chapter content.
Prof Wasserman is an ok lecturer. He was good at explaining some concepts and bad at explaining others. He does take the time to go over missed questions on quizzes to make sure you understand though. I didnt like his teaching style though because he often went off on 30 minute tangents about topics that had nothing to do with the class.
Shows tons of videos during lectures, asks questions and expects participation but doesn't grade by it. One of the best professors you will ever have, so caring and accessible!
Wasserman is the sweetest, so you love him as a person, and you want to love him as a teacher. I guess it depends on your way of learning. He teaches mainly through examples, and it's kind of on you to figure out what that example is telling you. Because of this quizzes required a lot of memorization of concepts you didn't always understand. ASK Qs
This man is the gem of the bio department. Even in an >100 person lecture, he makes sure to learn everybody's names. No exams, only quizzes based on lectures, which are super interesting. One of my favorite classes I've taken at BU.
Wasserman is very enthusiastic and very good at explaining things. However his examples that he uses to explain concepts make things more confusing. While he is a very engaging professor his materiel strays from the content in the book which makes it hard to learn outside the classroom.
Wasserman is a very sweet guy however his lectures are all over the place and his exams are based on very poor examples of the content. it's a hit or miss but if you don't find his lectures useful, go to the tutors or use the book.
Easily favorite professor at BU, he is so caring + accommodating and an easy grader. Just participate a bit and you will be a favorite. Super interesting lectures
Amazing professor and person. He is truly one of a kind. He makes his courses super interesting and engaging. He is one of the best in the biology dept.
Fun class, the exams are short answer/essay based, however he shares the prompts before the exam so you can prepare examples from the related articles/slides. Overall the exams are easier than multichoice, and lab is fun
really great guy with clear and engaging lectures. cares about students and will tell you quiz questions in advance in lecture (whispers it asmr style into the mic). very kind, go to oh with questions and to get to know him. bi107 is a boring class for premed but he makes it much better!
He is very charismatic and is passionate about biology. He wants us to do well in BI107 and wants us to stick with biology. He is also very nice and tries to engage us during lectures. He is also very knowledgeable about issues like systemic racism
He gives quiz answers in lecture. If you can't show up, WATCH THE RECORDING. Great, engaging, professor. Watch the lectures, use the S2S notes for sure, watch the quiz review sessions!
He is really kind! The content is kind of boring, but he teaches it well. Quiz review sessions really help for the quizzes.
such a sweetheart who wants students to do well. go to lectures! during lectures, he lets you know exactly what you will be tested on which makes the quizzes very easy. i found that sometimes questions on the quizzes were worded poorly, but it is still easy to do very well. class average was like 85% on each quiz.
very caring and accommodating professor, we didn't have any exams, just weekly open notes quizzes based on the lecture content, which made the class low-stress and very easy to do well in. he wants all students to do well on quizzes, so during lecture, he'll usually mention when content will be on the quiz. overall i highly recommend!
3 exams 66% lab 33%. labs are kinda messy but not too difficult at all. exams are open response explaining papers voted on in class, so not too difficult. lectures kinda dense but he is very passionate and clearly loves to teach. cares a lot about students. class can get philosophical. prepare to write a lot. overall great class with a great prof!
Sweet, amazing
Professor Wasserman is an exceptional professor who is not only knowledgeable but also caring and thoughtful towards his students. He teaches with emotion and truly enjoys what he teaches. He provides clear explanations of test answers and questions during class, making sure that everyone is well-prepared for exams.
Prof Wasserman is truly an amazing person. He is very passionate about what he teaches and wants everyone to be engaged. As long as you're trying and showing up, you will end up with a good grade in his class. Lectures are long but entertaining (shows a lot of videos). Would definitely take his class again.
He is a great person that genuinely cares about actually imparting his knowledge onto his students. Lectures are long, but full of examples/videos and lively explanations (including test questions). Slides can be hard to follow, so def recommend attending lecture. As long as you put in some effort in, you will get a good grade in this class.
Professor Wasserman is kind and caring for all students, and conveys his passion for biology well. Lectures can sometimes be hard to keep up with, but there are other resources that can help you supplement your notes. You will be totally prepared for quizzes thanks to his help!
I love Wasserman, sadly I don't think he's going to be teaching 107 going forward but I can just tell that all the classes he teaches are all taught the same way. Super nice guy, he's really engaging and I found it very easy to stay focused on what he was saying during lecture. I would highly recommend Wasserman regardless of the class.
He is awesome.
Professor Wasserman is a caring, passionate instructor who wants students to succeed. Lectures can be fast-paced, but engaging and full of helpful test prep. I found Unstuck study's study tools and ChatGPT to be great supplements. As long as you attend class and utilize available resources, you'll do well in this course.
My favorite professor at BU. He is one of the most caring people at BU and is very funny. Basically the definition of a grandpa. Not only does he get to know your name, but he also is very knowledgeable in his classes. He cares about everyone and will sit down and talk with you about anything. Would take his class again.
wasserman is wonderful! he is passionate, kind, and understanding. the content is not too complex but pay attention to the lectures since he cold calls for attendance and the weekly quizzes are heavily specific to the lecture material.
He is so lovely. He is super knowledgeable and cares so much about everyone. His class is very interesting and he has a great sense of humor. He's also legendary in Animal Behavior classes.
