He was a very nice professor but was also just not good at teaching. I learned nothing from going to his class, might as well skip. I had to learn everything for myself online. Everything was on ALEKS which I hated because it was very specific. He did allow cheat sheets for his test which saved my grades.
Thick French accent, VERY soft spoken. Spent two weeks on the syllabus. Be prepared to teach yourself most of the material, he teaches himself more than anyone. I did not go to most classes, I did most work on ALEKS. He allows cheat sheets - use them to your advantage.
He is a caring teacher and his heart is in the right place. All homework is on ALEKS. I spent most of the lectures doing his homework. He does not take attendance and allows you to bring a cheat sheet to all the tests, and will allow you to retake your missed questions on the test. I taught myself most of the material, overall not a hard class.
He is so understanding and wants all of his students to do well in his class. HIs classes are not mandatory but they are helpful lectures. Easy class to get an A
Great professor overall, go to his lectures and you will do great
He is a verynice and understandingteacher. His lectures aren't the best but his notes are easy to follow evenoutside the class. The only things he grades are tests homework and the final.Thereare roughly 8homework assignments assigned throughout theentire semester. They arerelatively easy because theyhave examples provided.I would100% take this class
very understanding and always ready to help. He Gives extra credit and creates a welcoming good learning environment. professor Bien has an excellent understanding of the practical relevance of statistics and brings the real world into the classroom. Provides notes with blanks that you fill out as you study and then he reviews them while teaching
If you want to learn stats there is no better teacher than Mr. Bien. He genuinely cares about his students success and has a deep passion for statistics. Attendance is not required but he definitely remembers who comes. Would definitely take again for math.
I absolutely loved Professeur Bien! He's a kind-hearted man who just wants his students to actively engage/learn. Sometimes his lectures were very slow-paced, and I wish we did more word problems in class to help us understand/apply learned topics better. Overall all the tests were easy as you can bring a cheat sheet. Easy A if you pay attention!
Professor Bien is the best! He is the sweetest and genuinely wants his students to succeed. Attendance is not mandatory and the only grades are homework and tests. He allows students to bring a cheat sheet for each tests and gives extra credit to those who do which is super helpful!
Great guy. Just not the best at lectures. Do the homework and study for an easy A.
Frederic Bien was a nice and understanding professor but he wasn't the best when it came to lectures. He tends to get off topic a lot and we end up wasting class time. The only reason why I got a A in his class was because I went to STATS tutoring weekly. As long as you do the homework and study well enough you should be okay.
Don't take him if you can't learn on your own. I got an A because I did the extra credit and taught myself outside of class. He tries to apply statistics to real life instead of just teaching us the content and it makes the tests difficult. If you do all of the homework and practice you should be good for the tests, b/c he allows cheat sheets.
10/10 Loved Professor Bien so much!! He really wants his students to pass and would always be willing to work with you when you needed extra help. Such a sweet man would def recommend!!
Easy class, just stay on top of homework and lectures. offers extra credit and has plenty of opportunities. does do class participation.
Professor Bien is a great professor, all of the homework was through Aleks and he would even extend the due dates, providing us with more time. As for test, they did not require lockdown browser however you did have to go in order to get the passkey. His is very understanding of ones circumstances and genuinely wants everyone to succeed.
He is a very sweet and caring person, and yes there is a lot of homework, but they are doable. He also gives a lot of extra credit, and opportunities to retake tests. There isn't much to the course, although his teaching is not the greatest, he still cares about his students and their success. Personally, I loved how helpful and genuine he was.
Honestly he was a great professor I would 100% take him again he is very understanding and gives lots of extra credit. He will try and work with you the best he can!
LOVED PROFESSOR BIEN! The most understanding guy ever. He reopened homework at least 5 times for me alone. Allows cheat sheets on exams that also count towards extra credit so do them. He does get off topic easily but I still learned from him. Sweetest guy ever, take him!!!
Professor Bien is one of those professors who really care about his students' success and will help whoever asks for it. His classes are straightforward and he details everything so you can do well in his class.
Dr. Bien was great. He was very organized, gave clear instructions, and provided lots of helpful resources. His communication was excellent, so it was easy to know what to do and stay on track. Even though it was an online course and I didn't experience his lectures, the online setup was really well done.
I took professor Bien for Stat and it was one of my favorite classes I've ever taken. Not only was he super easy to learn from, he's also super kind and personable. He also lets you use a cheat sheet on tests (1 sided 8x11) and on the final (front and back 8x11). Attendance isn't mandatory but his lectures are fun and make the class feel easy.
Take Prof Bien! He gives 3 tests plus a final and has study guides and hw are pretty much what's on the test. Also has weekly supplemental instruction sessions that are really helpful clearing stuff up. Nothing in this course is difficult if you try at all.
He's just a very chill guy fr
Mr. Bien is a incredible teacher. His class is very doable even for people who don't like math. He lets you use a cheat sheet for every exam and he gives you plenty of time for the homework and tests.
Professor Bien is a professor that wants you to succeed, He is kind and friendly, he is always encouraging students to ask for help. There are 3 test and a final exam. He gives lots of opportunities for extra credit (they are very easy). The tests are based on the homework. Homework every week. There aren't many questions not the test. Take him!
Very passionate about statistics: loves to use extra credit assignments to share that and expose students to what statistics actually means in the world. Hard to pay attention to in class due to tone of voice for someone who has ADHD, but the course itself is pretty easy to teach to yourself at home through ALEKS if you miss things in class.
He is a super friendly and understandable teacher when it comes to having difficulties understanding certain materials or exercises in class, but I think he could work a little more on Alex's assignments to understand them better and when it comes time to take an exam, we would understand it according to the unit studied.
Professor bien is a great person—just not a great professor. His lectures are kind of all over the place, he tends to change the topic quite frequently to irrelevant things which don't really have anything to do with the class. He gives extra credit, but I wish he helped us more with the hmw since the tests are a lot like the hmw.
Cool guy. Allows you to use a TI-84 app on your phone. The tests are all online but done in class and are not lockdown. HW is ALEKS. A cheat sheet is allowed.
hes very nice and funny, makes witty jokes. tests are all on aleks, no lockdown browser, homework for each chapter on aleks about 20 questions- pretty easy class to pass. take it!
Professor Bien is a caring and understanding person. His lectures are lengthy and he goes fast so pay attention in class. When he teaches he sometimes gets off subject to apply real world examples. All exams are online with no lock down browser and all homework is assigned on ALEKS. I do recommend going to si sessions to expand your learning!
Professor Bien cares about you passing the class and understanding the material. I have a very demanding full-time job, which he was understanding of. I asked if he could open up some homework that I had missed, and he had no problem doing so. He encouraged us to ask during our class before break. The lectures can be boring but he also uses Quizzs.
Professor Bien is obviously a great guy and I respect him for that alone. However, I didn't really enjoy his lectures. They were tedious, dry, and, in my opinion, unnecessary. I really struggled to get through them at the end of the day. I got through the class easy and didn't attend every class.
Professor Bien, was a good teacher. He genuinely cares for all of his students. What I will say is that he often gets side tracked, has a strong accent, and often mumbles. He is a great teacher as long as you put in the effort, he is more than willing to give extra opportunities if you try. Overall he was a good teacher I would definitely recommend
Professor Bien is a nice teacher! He gives many extra credit opportunities and is open to reopening homework for a valid reason. The tests are online in person but a cheat sheet is allowed. Homework is done in Aleks. He does get sidetracked a bit, but overall he is a good teacher.
absolutely do take 1401 with him. he offers extra credit and lets you use a cheat sheet to help you on each exam. you can turn in the sheet to get extra points on the exam if your notes are good. he's so sweet and cheery. you can tell he genuinely cares about his students and loves what he teaches:) take mr bien!
Professor Bien is there to help every step of the way. He, along with the SI sessions I took, allowed me to excel in Statistics. Would take again and highly recommend him.
Professor Bien is a very good teacher. He is really accommodating and truly wants his students to succeed. Cheat sheets are allowed and the homework really does help.
Professor Bien was an overall great teacher. There is weekly homework assignments, that are seemingly easy, and with valid excuses, he provides extension of due dates. There were a total of three until test in which you are allowed a one sided cheat sheet. If you do the homework and practice test the actual test is easy.
Professor Bien was a great teacher! I'm not very good with numbers but he was very helpful throughout the semester and without his help and moral support I don't think I would've pushed myself as hard as I did to pass. He's understanding and flexible with deadlines if you have reasons for missing assignments. Would definitely recommend.
He is honestly one of the most caring professors i've had so far! Provided so much help and support for all the students in his class. Coming from someone who sucks at math I managed to get a 95 in his class. I highly recommend you take him as he's not only a great person but an amazing professor who truly loves teaching Statistics!
Prof. Bien genuinely cares about his student's success in his class and life in general. He is more than fair with grading and gives lots of support throughout the course. He made Statistics less painful for me - would definitely take any of his courses, if possible.
Prof. Frederic was a great professor. As an online students, he always made us aware of using resources if we didn't understand. He had his assistant do sessions to help us with homework and test reviews which helped. Great class, just need to make sure you focus and understand.
This professor is really nice, you can tell he cares about the students and give us plenty of opportunities to retain the material. One thing I will say, is I didn't find his lessons to be very helpful, they were helpful a good bit but I found myself going to the SI sessions more than his lessons, because I found myself understanding more in there.
Very good! Amazing teacher
Dr. Bien spends lecture time focused on personal code debugging and self-talk, which detracts from the learning experience. This is especially noticeable during 50-minute periods, where these noninstructional activities consume 15 minutes or more. Dr. Bien often extends the lecture post-class, inconveniencing students with back-to-back schedules.
Mr. Bien is one of the best stats teacher!I would suggest yes take him bc he really cares about their students, if you having an issue or any problems and you talk to him he could reopen the hw for you! He might distract but he is so helpful! You can use cheat sheet note on his test! Do all the hw (it's easy) and extra credit you will do good!
Overall, very good professor who helped me understand statistics easily through his notes/lectures. The homework/practice tests he assigns are good tools for unit tests: those gets you used to how tests will be formatted. He is also quick responder with emails involving questions and understanding to personal situations you are experiencing.
Overall I enjoyed this professor. We got extra credit on test if you had a one page cheatsheet to help you with parts you may struggled with.
This professor was one of the nicest I had this semester, he was very caring and always had the best intentions for his students
Professor Bien is an excellent professor. He cares about his students. If you want better he'll give you the opportunities to be better. He is very understanding if you talk to him. There is homework often but you have 3 chances to make the best possible grade. His class environment is really calm.
Professor Bien was very rewarding to students and always responds on time, great time in stat 1401.
While Professor Bien's lectures aren't the most exciting, he is a great professor and guy overall. He is incredibly generous with extra credit and helps out his students as much as he can. I wasn't able to attend every lecture, but still maintained a good grade thanks to him. I would definitely take him again given the chance.
This was one of the best and most useful classes I took while at KSU. It helped me in job interviews, and I use now at work the R programming skills I learned in this course. Professor Bien was a caring and inspiring instructor. He illustrated the material with fascinating stories. I highly recommend taking this course if you can.
The notes are hard to understand, but the pacing is reasonable and I enjoy the use of Aleks. He is very flexible in the amount of tries per question, which has allowed me to learn more efficiently, stress free.
Absolute sweetheart of a teacher and wants the best for all of his students. Overall, a very caring person, will help if someone needs individual help, and very lenient on if you can't make it to class. Dad behavior, super caring, extremely nice, feels like a school-dad who just wants you to do the best you can. Love this teacher!
I would say his lectures were pretty boring and not a lot of people came. He takes participation grades with a Quizizz. Other than that, he was really sweet and I felt bad whenever no one paid attention during his lectures, but he really is a professor that wants the best for all his students. If this is a prerequisite class, definitely take him.
If you ask Mr. Bien questions and to go over what you got wrong on exams, he may give extra credit for at least putting in effort. Willing to help, cares about your grade. HW is on ALEKS which was very helpful. Attendance is based on your participation on Quizzez but it shouldn't affect your grade much. Posts completed notes on D2L.
Professor Bien was wonderful; he genuinely cares about his students' success, and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. The lectures can be boring, though, but it is all relevant information. Overall, I would highly recommend him.
Prof. Bien is a very kind man and cares greatly about his students. Anytime I needed anything, he was willing to help me and work with me and my busy schedule. I would totally recommend taking his class; the work was not hard at all and he posts all the completed notes. Tests are in class through ALEKS and mirror the practice exams really closely.
Very cool professor. Class exams are very similar to the practice tests he gives you so it's very easy to study. He allows you to exempt the final if your grade is high enough. Attendance is mandatory though
Prof. Bien was a great professor. Super nice & caring. The class is very easy as long as you take notes and do the homework. You're allowed cheat sheets on each exam and the tests arent hard. You definitely need to understand the material youre learning though. If you want a a chill stats class take this one.
He was very nice and always made sure everyone understood what he was teaching. The 3 exams were very easy since they were just like the practice tests, and you could have a cheat sheet. He also gives multiple extra credit opportunities. I definitely recommend taking this class with him!
He is super nice and cares about his students!! If you do the practice exams/ the hw you will end with an A in the class. I would 100% recommend him!!
Best professor ever! He truely cares about his students and is very understanding! Only 3 test and homework due once every two weeksish. The practice test are super helpful and he's always willing to answer your questions. Great class to take!
Really caring guy who wants you to succeed! The work load was super manageable along with my harder classes. The notes he provided for us really helped, and there was only 3 tests with minimal homework for the whole semester. Highly recommend!
Overall great guy, Will open up old HW's if missed and will give full credit because he just wants to make sure his students are learning. Test are in class but are not locked down and allows a notecard. Great guy, easy class, genuinely cares.
The best professor that I've encountered at KSU! He works with you to ensure that you are successful in his class and is very understanding. He genuinely tries to make the lessons engaging, but I found that many of the students wouldn't paying attention, which made me feel awful because he truly tries to make it enjoyable.
he was very caring and if you needed help with anything or more time he was always understanding
Class was very easy. If you do all of the work and pay attention you'll do good. Also he replaces your lowest test grade for your final test grade, so overall W!
Honestly easy teacher, finished with a 97 barely went to class and ended exempted from final. take class to get an easy A.
He is a really care and kind professor. I took him for online course which is just watching the video lessons and taking note from that. 3 exams for 3 units, and 1 special quiz. It is a super easy class which I got over 94% total grade and 100% on the special quiz, that I am exempted from the final with an A.
Great professor! Everything is on ALEKS. Pretty straight forward. 3 test, midterm, final. lockdown browser and webcam. homework every week. hard class but if you do the work you'll be fine.
Frustrating is the best word to describe this class. Only take this class with him if you need it for credit. If you just want to learn R, you're better off finding a course online, or just teaching yourself. He spends the entire lecture debugging the code he's demonstrating rather than actually teaching what the code does. AI teaches better.
Professor Bien is an exceptionally caring and kind educator who genuinely cares about his students' success. He offers plenty of partial credit opportunities. He occasionally strays off-topic during lectures, but his passion for teaching is evident. Overall, he makes learning enjoyable and accessible! TAKE HIM!!
Professor Bien is a lenient grader, understanding, and easy to communicate with. He gives leeway when needed, provides significant feedback on assignments and is willing to meet with you outside of class to clear up any points of confusion. I enjoyed taking his class over the summer and will never forget the things he taught.
Great class! The course was fast-paced, but the professor explained concepts clearly and was always available to help. I learned a lot about R and data analysis in a short time. Highly recommend!
Professor Bien is very caring. He wants his students to succeed. In his programming in R class, he was always willing to give my partner and I feedback on our project before presenting it. Everything that we are tested on is in his R code teaching templates. He also is very willing to give points on quizzes. If you try, he will give you points.
He has a high focus on mental health.
Overall Good
The professor shows strong professional ability, teaching with clear explanations and real-world examples that make complex ideas easy to understand. He provides precise, timely feedback that highlights strengths and areas to improve, creating an effective, supportive environment. His approach keeps students engaged, mastering material.
Enjoyed taking his class. He taught me a lot.
Dr. Bien is an excellent professor. He is passionate about his subject and genuinely cares about his students. He is very understanding and supportive, though he does require mandatory attendance and active participation. Overall, I would definitely take his class again.”
Amazing professor
Dr. Bien is a passionate, supportive professor who maintains engagement through required attendance and participation, gives helpful pre‑presentation feedback, and offers extra credit; I would enroll in his class again.
Professor Bien is passionate about statistics and often shares interesting “fun fact” stats with a few jokes mixed in. Attendance is mandatory, with one unexcused absence allowed. He grades fairly and offers plenty of extra credit...Seriously, do the extra credit and complete all assignments, and you'll do great in his class.
Great professor
Overall good course and professor.
