This teacher has a wonderful attitude she loves economics. Students need Math 50 skills for this class. She takes the time to write every note that you need for the test on the board. Her conduct is professional and she is polite to students.
She is an easy grader, which makes the experience a bit less painful. Her demeanor toward students is often condescending, and sometimes rude. Her lectures are unclear and rambling. Says OK and You Know alot, as if this somehow clears up the confusion.
She's alright, I got an A in the class. She comes off as rude and she is often unclear, but her tests are from the notes, so thats nice. The homework is easy and you get credit so just do it. And don't even think about leaving early cause she hates it.
She rambles, but if you show her that you want to learn she'll be eaiser on you. Ask LOTS of questions, and be friendly... she'll return the favor
She is a pritty nice lady. She tends to ramble on about things. Expect 4 tests and a group debate. Tends to be a little easy when grading. The class can get VERY BORING! Does not grade on a curve. You can turn in assignments late. Some tests take home. Dont leave in middle of the class.not veryfunny
The class can be a lot of fun if you get involved. When you sit in the back and don't say anything, you are wasting your time and will be bored out of your mind. If you show sincere interest she will respond with anything you need! Give her the respect she deserves and you'll do just fine!
she likes to tell stupid stories. she talks down to the students. her tests do not reflect the text book or the notes, which just give basic definitions. she draws on top of her graphs so you don't even know which subject she is talking about.
Rambles on till you're very confused. Draws on board then erases & paper ends up being a mess. Her hair ANNOYED me every day. She is boring, I slept behind the computers just about every day. Is strict and kinda hard but was nice enough to give me the C I didn't deserve to pass the class
She's a great teacher and will give you a good grade if you show her that your really trying your best....
she is a very weird professor and extremely boring. her class is pretty easy as long as you actually go to the class but that is the hardest part. u can turn in everything late and still get credit. the hardest part is actually going and staying focoused
She knows exactly whats she stalking about... and if u get lucky like i did.... you will get take homes tests (the power went out)...lol

Exams come right from the class notes so it is important to go to every class. It is difficult to get a B or A if you don't study or do your work. Overall, nice and fair teacher. Tests are still difficult though.
so this is boring but easy if you know economics. the first part of the semester I usually brought an mp3 player or fingerboard. She's cool though, do the homework, it doesn't have to be right either. take her or lee.
She is a great lady, she's willing to help you when you need it, the problem with her class is the students that don't care. I mean she made the midterm a take home and people still didn't turn it in! Read the text, do the very easy homework, and listen...it's school, its what you have to do to succeed.
Very easy. Tests are straight from the lecture, just pay attention and take notes, look over the night before test and you'll get an A, guarenteed, easy!
Very easygoing. Sometimes the material is confusing & she doesnt' work through the text systematically. Lectures are information intensive, but she is very willing to explain over & over. I liked her a lot.
Great Econ Teacher!! Taking good notes in class and reading the chapters will give you and "A" in her class!! Highly recommended!!
Accepts late work. Drops one exam. 1 Take home exam. Group final. Good class for people who are taking demanding courses.
Pretty boring class (and teacher), but you need to show up to get all the notes and do well on the tests. She is understanding when it comes to help or needing more time. If you show her that you are trying your hardest she will most likely give you a passing grade. Gives group tests also which help a lot. turn in your homework even if its late!!
Easy class. Allows late work and gives full credit for shoddy work.
Boring. Very passable class if you care. Group final, drops one test, so it's manageable. Showing up helps your grade but I got a B showing up 30% of the time...
She's a nice lady, always willing to help. Allows late work, gives one take home exam and the finals are in groups. Her class in pretty boring, but you definitely have to show up to get the notes because she test mostly on her lectures so the book isn't as helpul. If you show that you care, she'll pass you.

I recommend taking this lady bc shes very clear in what the subjects are going to be about. I actually passed this class and got a good grade. Her personality is ok but the teaching is OUTSTANDING. I like this lady as a professor, I just wished everyone else was like her.
SHE JUST LECTURES ON AND ON HARD TO STAY AWAKE... IF YOUR LOOKING FOR an easy A defintly not the class... She means well and is nice (kinda) but her test are hard and her grading is totally off the top off her head at the moment... so two people could write exactly word for word the same thing and get way different grades lol
She is very helpful and flexible with a lot of the work. Had one take home test and a group final. I did not enjoy her teaching style. Her lectures are VERY BORING! I would not take her again.
she was good. i liked her. but it was not an easy class.
No point in buying the book she has one on reserve in the library. The test are random and she never gives you the right answers for the homework.1 group project, where she asks you questions to death.GEt use to teaching yourself 'cause she's not so great at it.
the good things are that the third test is take home and the final is an open book group test. you basically only have four days of homework the assignments are due before each test. group poject is easy and you can take micro and macro because she uses the same text and uses the old cheap editions her lectures are boring and she is a weird grader
Terrible teacher. You will go crazy, I know I almost did. She has a very annoying voice which makes it impossible to even listen to ehr let alone learn. She is very unclear but she will accept almost any excuse for late work. I would NOT recommend her.
I'm not sure if Freddy even understands what shes teaching. If you are passionate about econ and want to learn it, don't take her. If you're looking for an easy class or one you can slack off in, then yea shes the one for you.
I didn't have a whole lot of interest in this subject when I signed up for the class but I needed it for my major. She squelched any interest I may have hoped to have fo economics. She is very smug and if you answer a question she will tell you you're wrong and just repeat what you said in different words. Infuriating, confusing, and self-righteous
Horrible. She gets off track easy and is very disorganized. You WILL be confused. The grading system is very weird, you'll never know exactly what grade you have in the class. Attending class is useless 90% of the time but she takes it into consideration if your grade is borderline. She's a nice enough person but she's not the most... coherent prof
I took this as a summer class and I have no idea how I got an A! Her material tends to be boring and can get confusing, but her lectures are tolerable. Just take advantage of every extra credit opportunity, pay attention, read the book, attend regularly and you should have a good chance at an A!
Professor just rambles on and on, gets off track and is boring. She may be a nice old lady, but not a good professor at all! Stay Away!!! Unless its a nite class and you have sleeping problems, because she will definitely fix that! ;)
She isn't as bad as everyone makes her out to be. Yes, you have no idea what your grade will really be but she'll help you figure it out. Her test and quizes are another story. She told us class was based off the lecture. NOT TRUE! Her quizes r fricken hard and are word for word answers no summerizing. She gets mad if u leave early.
She can be a little frazzled at times, but if you ask her to clarify she will! Her tests aren't too bad and she drops your lowest test grade. She is also super friendly! People can complain that she isn't a good teacher, but its Economics people.. YOU have to put effort in if you want a good grade!
Freddie was a trip. From Santa Cruz? I still cant believe I got an A. I busted my rear studying and reading, but she doesnt believe in As. Has a political bias and is an institutionalized educator. Would love to have a beer with her and debate politics, but not my style of teacher. Nice lady, super chill, but her mind wanders. Cool if you want a C.
i think she is a very good teacher. Economics is very conceptual and hard to get, but the way she explains it makes sense. Going to class is very important. If you go to class, do the homework and study, you will get at least a B. I got an A, but I am a very good student :)
Political bias takes up time. Rambles a good deal. Takes too much time to explain simple concepts. I've had good teachers, and she is not one of them.
I took the class in summer 2012. Too much time was spent on the early chapters. This caused the later, more difficult chapters to be crammed into a week and a half. Then we had to take a group final. Taking a test with strangers on all that material dropped my grade down to a B. Oh well.
Just like everyone stated below, easy grade, talks a lot and very unorganized. Too much time in first 2 chapters and cram the rest. Nothing is according to her syllabus.
I absolutely hated this class. If you can get past the extremely nasal tone of her voice, you might be able to absorb some of the stuff she teaches, but most of it is principles of econ then she tests you on other stuff. Befriend smart people because she does group quizzes/tests/projects. Easy but awful.
I took micro with Barbara Behr and I now appreciate what a fantastic teacher she was after having Care. Oh my word... She is awful at explaining topics. She expects you to teach yourself complex topics not to mention her methods are awful. She's a nice enough person but geeze... I hated this class.
Really don't recommend! She grades tests harshly, is totally disorganized, and is not very good at explaining this difficult topic. Also she goes off on tangents even when she knows she is behind on teaching the material. Honestly boring and annoying. Take only if you must, and be prepared to read the chapters and teach yourself!
Yeah, Econ is not a very good class to take online.
she is not a very clear teacher and i would not recommend her to any one. I gave her ones because i couldnt give her negatives.
In her online class. She distributes learning materials as word documents. That's not even the bad part. They're set in COMIC SANS BOLD, are you freaking kidding me?!
She does nothing in class but rant for the entire period. I don't know why she's a teacher if she hates the edu system so friggin' much. I would NOT recommend this 'teacher'
While she is nice, I do not believe her to be a proper teacher for the following reasons: -Lectures are often incoherently tied with stories of her life that do NOT pertain to the topic -Does NOT use the textbook she required -Changed syllabus several times -Did NOT give clear directions -Poor grader -Instructions were vague and inconsistent
I took this class for my BA in Business and I must say that She did not help me at all. She barely responds to emails and didn't use the textbook she required us to buy.
This class is super easy, provided you can read and understand the material. She gives unnecessasary lectures on Blackboard Collaborate, grades in a really confusing way, Quizzes are a joke and most can be C+P from a search bar. Teacher isn't helpful without offering an irrelevant story. I learned nothing and passed with ease. Just do tests.
She added 100 extra points to the grading criteria the day AFTER the semester ended. Really? REALLY?!?!!?!?! She extended the online homework and quizzes for another day but those were 1 or 2, maybe 5, points each. AND it was only for people who hadn't turned it in. We couldn't redo any of it if we had already turned it in. This class was a joke.
Really don't recommend! She grades exams roughly, is totally disorganized, and is not very great at explaining this difficult topic. Also she goes off on tangents even when she knows she is behind on teaching the material. Honestly dull and annoying. Take only if you must, and be prepared to read the chapters and teach yourself!
So, even if you turn everything in, not all your scored points are added to your final grade. I should've gotten an A- but instead I got a D- because 'those points were counted to someplace else.' Don't bother with her class, you'll just get screwed over.
While she is a respected professor in her field, I must say that her classroom conventionalities are questionable at optimum. She does have classes that are quite revelatory but then there are times where her lectures are nothing but rodomontades of a counterproductive temperament. Personally, I prefer an instructor with more fervor.
I cannot believe what a joke this class is. I'm so happy the semester is over, it never ended. She lectured on extremely specific points but her tests would be on something completely different. I wouldn't take this again unless I had to. If you show up and read the book, you'll do fine. If you just take notes on her lectures, you'll be screwed.
I took this class because I actually enjoy reading about the economy and I just wanted to know more. Had I known that Carr would be this unhelpful, I would've put that money toward a babysitter and gone out for the night. She disrespects her students and doesn't answer questions. Skip her. I wish someone had told me that.
I swear, I didn't learn anything useful. She barely used the book she graded us to buy. Yeah, she gave us credit for buying a $250 textbook. Then she never referred to it or assigned us to read any of it. When she handed out the final she said she hoped we read the book because thats where she got her questions. Nice warning.
I'll be honest, I'm not the best student. However, I can tell when I have a bad teacher. She does give extra credit (there's a limit, of course) but she only gives it when no one in class will answer her when she asks us something. Even then she doesn't write everyone's points down. She changed the grading rubric at least twice a month. Avoid her.
Do not bother with her. She's not clear and changes the rubric constantly. I had a C and got downgraded because not all of my quizzes counted toward my final grade. WOW.
Her class is like watching a terrible movie because your friend asked you to see it. You wait for it to get good then it just ends. Save yourself the trouble, don't take her class.
She doesn't give many tests but she does make them really hard. Her class seemed pretty easy until she kept changing the schedule and grade points towards the end. I don't think any student of hers walked away with a good grade. She's a fine teacher but I don't think of her as a professor, at least a Jr College level one.
She ALWAYS talked more about her own life than the subject. I wouldn't recommend her. Some of what she said could've been applied to econ but all in all, it wasn't worth my time. I'm just glad I dropped out in time, my friend stuck it out in her class and he was constantly nervous about the tests.
She demands respect but refuses to give any. I tried being nice and suggest she give us a reference to where we can read in the book so it can help us study and she told me that the book was unnecessary. I just bought the txtbk for $189 cuz she required it & said we'd lose a letter grade if we didn't have it.
She would put us on the spot and ask us questions to subjects we hadn't learned yet. There were several occasions where I just left class cuz she made me feel so bad for not knowing an answer. I know it may seem unethical but it wa hard sitting there while she just stared you down till you croak an answer out.
I dint know what some people are thinking with these comments but she's not that bad. She will email you back and answer your questions to the best of her ability. She's a bit unorganized but who isn't in college? Her tests were really hard though. Just pass the tests and you'll be fine.
If you want a teacher that sticks to the syllabus, don't take Carr. She changed it at least 8 times in the last month of the semester. Drove me insane.
She does give extra credit, but only to a point. It barely helps though. She doesn't give many tests but when she does, they're really hard. Read the book and try to keep track of the charts and graphs and equations and definitions if you do have to take her class.
Have you ever run a marathon and when you cross the finish line, your completely worn out but it was worth it? Yeah, that's what her class is like except for the feeling of worth. It was exhausting trying to keep up with what she WAS teaching and then what she WASN'T teaching. She would waste entire class periods with just ranting. Dont take her.
Just read the book and do the work. You won't like Carr but it's an easy A if you just submit.
I'm seeing a lot of negatives, which cover pretty much everything. So I'll say something nice: She was detailed in her graphs and would respond to emails quickly. That is all.
This class was such a joke
She's not a good teacher, but if you just read the book (which she ignores by the way) and do good on the tests, you'll pass. Just ignore her, sometimes, inappropriate ranting and don't bother taking notes in class because half the time she's wrong anyway.
I will say this, she seems like a good person, I'm just not sure teaching is her thing. She tends to rant and not teach us anything that will help us. She enjoys telling stories of her life but not about economy. I wouldn't recommend her as a teacher but just pay attention to the book and her online notes.
No one takes economy for fun. This is not a fun class but just show up and read the book and you'll pass. She's annoying but in the end, who really takes a class for a teacher? Unless they're awesome or funny or something.
Shes alright, its just a boring subject
She's not too clear about instructions, she's so vague sometimes that it just makes you want to tear your hair out. But her lectures can be helpful, especially during a test, sometimes she lets you use your notes. Not bad but be prepared to work.
She's great! I loved taking her class last semester! She's a good person with a kind heart, take her class!
Most of what I understand are things I learned in high school Econ. Worst part is the group project: its hardly mentioned and "teamwork" is nonexistent. Carr can see I've done my part, but without a complete project, a good chunk of my grade is going down the drain. LOVE that she offers extra credit. Do all the homework! Use study guides for tests.
This class was helpful as an introductory course to Macro-Econ and Prof. Carr is very available to help with questions and concerns. That being said, be aware that Homework due dates are not included on the syllabus. Because of this, I had to always double check that I wasn't running behind on coursework. She can be scatter brained but is helpful.
Professor Carr's 8-week class is highly doable and recommended. I look forward to taking Econ 121 as well with Professor Carr. Read each chapter, the tests, quizzes, and assignments will be quick and familiar to you if you do. Email her anytime with Q's or concerns and she will respond promptly, she can save your semester.
Easy Class to pass, but you will learn nothing about economics. All the knowledge that I attained from this class was from google searches when preparing for the Exams. Needless to say if your trying to learn anything about economics please take another teacher. I have no problem saying "This is the worst teacher I have ever had".
Its better to take it online with a different instructor. Be ready to read the textbook. Her syllabus doesn't say anything about the homework so you have to go through her unorganized canvas to figure out what is due. Half of the time I had no idea what was going on.
Took her fast track course. She made everything very clear in terms of grading, expectations, and how to do well on tests. Show up and pay attention and you will do fine. The day of tests she goes over exactly what will be on the tests. She gets off topic every now and then but overall this was an easy pass if you just put decent effort.
Hard class to figure out in the beginning. Took it online and was pretty structured except group project. Things due weekly, and 2 hr test almost every 2 weeks. No lectures, learn on your own. Tough if you are not self disciplined. I didnt learn any material cheated through it and passed, so easy class for that.
teacher has a very wonky class with little rhythm. compared to all the other classes ve taken online in the pandemic this was the worse. her own response to my issues was that she's been doing this for years and clear doesn't want to improve her class or make it better and more accessible or understandable especially for an intro class. don't take!
I really struggled with Econ because I was taking this class in high school in order to receive early college credit. She was always there to answer my questions or listen to me freak out. I could not have gotten through the class without her. She is super sweet. She gives you many work opportunities which allow you to pass the class.
Avoid! Pros -Extra Credit on exams -Sheet of notes for exams Cons -Lecture heavy -Limited explanation of new concepts/formulas -No practice assignments provided -No study guides provided for exams or final -Final is 1/3 of total grade -Material on exams does not correlate to material covered in class *Most students would not show up to lecture
