Fred is Awesome, the best english teacher I've ever had. Paper topics are always challenging, but in that good way.
He is by far the best english teacher. He is funny and will take the time to help you. He makes class so enjoyable that you look forward to it the next day. Even in the summer. I will be sure to take him again. I wish all teachers could be this way.
stupendous class and teacher.
Best english teacher I've seen
easy course...funny guy...never a boring class...really about being a good teacher
Great professor. Very funny and keeps the class lively and interacting. There is a lot of writing papers and he's a very hard grader but deffenitly worth it!
Really good guy, made boring things interesting..Very passionate about what he does....Tough grader, but he is fair and knowledgeble....If you find English or Lit. boring, then take Fred....He will atleast keep your attention most of the time...
Everyone seems to like Fred, but I don't! I think he forces his opinions on students and doesn't give them the chance to think on their own! He concentrates too much on lame jokes...TEACH English!!!!!
He's really funny, has interesting stories to tell and he's good at teaching. He's read practically everything. He's cute too :) In that nerdy professor kind of way.
Fred rocks! He makes literature interesting, so much so that after taking his class I became an English major. Very relateable and helpful. Thinks of college as a place to learn and Gen Ed classes as places to shift your ways of thinking, both good things
Fred grades all his "journals" with his OWN opinion, and then gives you an 'F' because you do not agree with him. I think his class was unfair, and if you are not on his "good list" he will fail you for sure. He is funny, but not at
took him for a road narratives class a while ago and still think it was one of the best classes I've ever had. (Not to mention, he is so dorkily cute)
Had Fred for an Introduction to Literature course fall of 03. The class changed not only the way I view literature, but the way I view any piece of text, as well as my life as a young man. Fred is charasmatic and insightfull, but he over rates the Doors.
Awesome and hilarious
absolutely by far the best english teacher i have ever had. i took him for two different classes because he's that good. i never did good in engligh in HS, but i made straight A's on nearly all his papers. fabulous teacher.
Fred was the best professor i have ever had. UNF ruined my life and i just left, but i loved his class and everything about it. he opened my eyes to a different way of looking at things, he was funny, yet sincere and offered WONDERFUL insight on any piece
Fred is cool. He's very sarcastic and makes the class interesting. I think he grades extremely fair, and he makes you see things in a way you never thought you could. Good class.
Make sure that if you take Fred you are aware you wont have a life. He is not understanding in the least bit about personal considerations and will basically just tell you that you will fail for things you cant even help happening. Very opinionated and self absorbed...likes to hear himself talk...EW
very cool dude
Fred is an Excellent teacher!!! His classes are really enjoyable, he really keeps you awake, and he has very interesting points of view on every single piece of text. Hard, but you can make it through. Very creative (TOO creative sometimes). I had never liked literature until I took his class!
BEST EVER! I love this guy. His class was the greatest.
Fred doesn't even teach you to write. He has no consideration for people's personal lives. He gives horrible topics.
Def. the worst teacher I have ever had at UNF. He puts down creative writing and you can only right his way or you fail. He tries to be funny but he is not at all. And he is very self-centered.He thinks he challenges you ,but he doesn't he just pisses you off!
Best class I have had in the longest time!! Fred's energy rubs off on you and you become just as excited as him. you learn to think outside the box. He is also one of the funniest teachers I have ever had! I think I gave off a snort or two in every class. Take his class and enjoy every minute of it!
Mr. Dale seemed cool at first but in the end that notion was proved false. He loves to hear himself talk especially about the hard topics. He is not specific about the way he wants the papers to be written. The topics suck and he likes to put his own twist on a book which is which is confusing.
One of the best teachers here. Do the work, go to class, get an A. Easy as that. He's always willing to give help and explains anything you might be confused about..IF YOU ASK. The people that failed and complain probably didn't do this. Very good class...worth the money.
Freds The Man, everyone hating prolly just failed his class. Cuz I hate school...and he makes it tight for me. Wish I had more teachers like Fred...
worst teacher ever. cubs suck. and your not hot fred. frost sucks. grow up and learn to teach.. totally into himself. ugh. F- for fred.
Excellent professor! Class is not easy if you are not willing to type essays, but he is very lenient and helpful. One of the best!
Before I took this class, I heard that Fred was ****, but that wasn't the case at all. I think that he is a very hard grader. You must read because he gives you pop quizzes all the time and there hard. If you can't write, then I suggest you not take this class.
cubs suck. and so does fred.
I have always made As in English and have won awards for my writing. This professor doesn't have a good grading system and will grade based on how well he likes you. Its the first time in my life that I ever I made a bad grade in writing.
Fred was the best teacher i've had so far. he knows his**** and you can tell he loves teaching. while class could be a bit dull, it was a summer course and he made it as interesting as possible. He grades hard, but overall, it's worth it. DEFINITELY take a class with fred if you get a chance...you won't regret it!

kick ass teacher that actually cares
Dale makes the air more breathe able. I hear sounds that I have never heard before. Food tastes better.... but he does grade hard...oh wait this is college.
BEST dang teacher I ever had. Want to take him again if his class would stop filling up so fast!
i completely lost interest in his class... i'm not a fan of his attendance policy

Worst teacher I've ever had. He enjoys screwing his students over.
A professor that actually cares for students and ensuring that they learn. Boethius would be proud.
fred absolutely rocks...he actually wakes me up in the morning...hard to do in an 8AM class. definately want to take him again!
Fred is the man!! I had him 3 classes in a row and he KNOWS his stuff. Do not test him when it comes to writing skill. As long as you do the work and make an effort you will do extremely well in his class.
I actually enjoy going to class. Fred Dale rocks!
He was helpful when I was sick. Grades papers fairly. You have to work for your grade, but isn't a hard teacher.
he's a good teacher and his funny. just keep up with ur readings and you'll do fine
Best teacher. Period.
The best teacher I've had at UNF, and one of the best I've ever had, period. He will make you work, but if you're willing to do the reading you'll come out of the class appreciating literature more than you ever have before. Plus he's hilarious.
he is a very fun and motivated teacher. if you read the readings and participate in class it can be really fun. he is a fair grader but he pushes you to do become a better writer. deff. recommend him
Fred was an awesome teacher! I took him for two different classes and aced both of them.
HE IS A GOOD TEACHER FOR SUMMER, HE MAKES IT FUN AND HE STILL KNOWS HIS STUFF, COME PREPARED FOR CLASS, GET ALL THE BOOKS, AND HE IS VERY HELPFUL!
Take him for any class possible! He is hilarious & I actually learned something from this class! He won't be an easy A, but he is fair!!
HIS TOPICS ARE HORRIBLE.."Which are better new or old movies" 1000 words...Wow...who cares He is the most sarcastic teacher i have ever meet. He is a very hard grader. The thinks hes funny but he really is not. Wouldn't recommend this class.
Takes attendence, freaks out when your phone accidentally rings, gets mad when you're late...IT'S LIKE BEING IN HIGHSCOOL!
He is a Great teacher, you actually learn from him. I had him for ENC 1101 and I am also having him for LIT 2110
Fred is super interesting and his class is riveting. He is very knowledged on topics, and engages the class well. Not super easy, you do have to read, but it is worth doing so. He does not like to give out bad grades, but will not give you a grade you didn't earn, I highly reccommend this teacher.
have to write 9 essays each worth different points. very hard grader. i am a pretty good writer and i got Bs and Cs on my papers. the essay topics are not that interesting, and you always have to take a side and make good arguments. never used the book, waste of money to buy. i do not recommend the class if you are an average writer. very hard clas
Fred is SUPER HOT!!!! Wish he wasn't married. Great teacher as well. Grading isn't too difficult.
Great teacher!! He really got me interested in analyzing literature & makes the class really interesting! He is a fair grader, so don't expect to get an A if you slack. As long as you come to class, participate, & try your best you will be successful.
Great Teacher. Come to class on time to take the easy quizzes or else you lose 10%. This class was not challenging. Teacher gives lots of direction for papers only if you ask for it. Would definately take him again, if needed
A very good prof. I loved the way he graded papers. He will tell you exactly what was good, bad and how you could have improved your grade. Class is easy, but a LOT to read. He is an easy going. Very heplful too.
fred is a great teacher! his class is really interesting and fun. he is hilarious! i actually looked forward to coming to class. the books we read were pretty good, and the paper topics actually made you think! so if you dont like using your brain, this class might not be for you. but i really loved this class.
excellent teacher. i wish i had him for all my lit classes
Awesome teacher
Fred is awesome! By far the coolest teacher yet. He is absolutely hilarious. Class was actually interesting and went by fast. If you're a good writer, you will have no problem with this class. He does NOT give out any grades. You get what you earn and he will tell you like it is.
Fred is definitely one of the best!! He is very easy going and funny:) Class is easy as long as you read the required texts. He's pretty good on grading and gives helpful hints to help you improve. Easy man to talk to about ANYTHING (not just lit stuff!). Great sense of humor!
I LOVE him, he is an awesome teacher. Hilarious and easy to talk to. I had him for my Lit2000 class and took him again for Lit2932. You do need to read the text and think in his class but he is a great guy. Take him if you can.
Fred is the best teacher I have ever had, hands down! He makes class fun. The atmosphere is very easy going. Knows literature very well and is good at getting the class involved. Not a teacher you are afraid to talk to. I suggest everyone take him if you get the chance!
FRED'S CLASS IS EASY, FUN, AND HE IS VERY FUNNY. YOU WILL LEARN ALOT, AND YOU WILL NEVER WANT TO MISS CLASS.
Fred is one of the best professors I have ever had! He is funny and very easygoing. I was a bit worried about his grading style, but he is very fair and extremely helpful. Always welcoming if you have a question. My only regret is I didn't take him sooner for ENC 1101 and Lit 2000! Highly recommend! You need to take one of his classes if you can!
Awesome teacher, know how to write a decent paper and you'll do fine.Take advantage of his office hours,he's always willing to help and very easy to talk to
Fred is the junk. He's funny, great to talk to, and easy on the eyes. Take him for Lit 2000 or 2932! You have to have some brain power and know how to write, but Fred makes it fun! Take him if you can!
He is an amazing professor! HILARIOUS! If u go to him to check the paper you wrote he will gladly show you what you are missing and you will get an A if you listen!
Professor Dale is INCREDIBLE! He is always willing to help and he never ceases to make you laugh during class! Make sure you go to class though, but you NEVER want to miss, because you learn so much! He grades his essays pretty tough, but you walk out of that class writing A papers for sure!
Fred is cool. He made getting up at 8 in the morning, worth it.
fred is a great teacher. this is the second time i've taken fred and if i get another opportunity i would take him again. he is cool and young and keeps class funny and interesting.GO TO YOUR MY WINGS ACCOUNT, TO THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER LOOK FOR LOOK UP CLASSES OR ADD OR DROP CLASSES AND REGISTER FOR HIS CLASS NOW. GOOOO!
this class was super easy and a lot of fun. fred doesn't make things too complicated but yet he's really intelligent and knows his stuff. he's great. i would take him again. not too much reading, papers were easy.
He is a great teacher for incoming freshman. He's hilarious and makes you think during discussions. He does tend to get annoyed if certain people don't speak up in class, so DON'T be shy and speak your mind!!
excellent teacher. very inspiring
Pretty decent professor. He creates a discussion based atmosphere, which can be fun. He has a nice sense of humor, and tries to get the students involved. Nobody seemed to care that much though. He seems a little private and to himself, and leaves immediately after dismissing class. I didn't like that.
He is a tough grader on the papers that are worth more. Class seemed dry in the beginning but seemed more comical in the end..maybe it was just because the class was use to him. He did at times seem distant but made clear that his office hours were always available if anyone needed help.
Probably the best Lit teacher I ever had! You don't purchse a textbook, just four little books that you can purchase from Barnes and Noble. You read the book and then write a 1500 word paper. Sounds hard, trust me I know, because I am no English major!! But his class was a lot of fun!! I wish there were other classes I could take with him!!
The class was funny....but it was hard to learn some of the details because of all the jokes, but if you like comedy, i suggest this class...
He treats you like an adult, and only goes by his first name, Fred. His class is fun, and I always looked forward to going to it. His humor is one of a kind, and very entertaining. The class is fair, you have a few papers but never more than 1000 words. You are allowed to miss 4 classes with no penalties and isnt very strict on it.
Fred is a humorous teacher who does his best to keep class interesting. He assigned eight papers, some of which were very difficult, but was available to help during office hours and grades fairly. Unfortunately, much of the literature we studied was about sex, which made for a number of awkward moments and some monotony in discussion and writing.
Dale changed the way I write. He makes you write a lot of papers, but honestly, your writing improves. He is very fair. If you use fillers in your essays, you will not pass. This class makes you think diff about literature. I loved it. Hes funny and cares about his students. If you are prepared to work, you will really, really tenjoy this class
He's one of the funniest people i have ever met. That alone is a reason to take his class. He helps you if you ask for it and truly believes that anyones perception of a story is valid. He grades on quality of work, not on grammar. Great professor, wish i could take him again.
His class was funny but the jokes got old kinda fast. Good teacher though, very well-paced class
Very fair grader. He's a funny teacher, but can assign a lot of reading and at a fast pace. But I would take him again tho!
Fred is a great professor, best I have ever had. He has completely random quizzes on the reading that are either you know it or you don't, so do all the reading. He believes that lecturing is not teaching when the teacher spews out his/her interpretation and expects kids to write on it. It's yours. There is no wrong interpretation! Great professor.
Fred is an AWESOME teacher! I've taken him for ENC 1101 and LIT 2000 and I plan on taking him for 2932! I have always been horrible at English but he makes the class so much fun, and he is so funny! He gives out quite a few tough essays but grades them pretty easily and has quizzes on assigned reading. So the class is really not too hard.
If you can avoid not taking him do so. He spends so much of class time talking about nothing. He rambles about his life which has nothing to do with what we are reading. We had 4 papers that we a min of 1500 words not to bad but isnt always clear of what he expects. He jokes around alot and he isnt very funny.
Good number of papers but he is very willing to help. Covers all material well and he selects interesting literature. Very funny and enthusiastic.
I took the TLO New Orleans class he taught. He's a great teacher. Very engaging and is never dull. This class was harder than my LIT2000 and ENC 1101 classes. It had 5 very long papers, and I would advise annotating the books he requires you to read, no matter what class you take. My best advice is keep up with the reading!
I broke my collar bone, and missed some classes cuz of it, and from of that I failed. Another person in the class missed some bc she had surgery, and she failed the class missing too many He definitely chooses favorites, if he doesn't like you, he grades your papers harder. I recommend Eileen Maguire for english courses.
He was the best professor I had this past semester. I had Fred for the New Orleans TLO and it was the best thing I did. The papers were confusing at first, but Fred was able to explain what he wanted for the papers. His clas was super easy, and the papers were based on the books assigned. I'm taking him for LIT 2000 in the fall and I can't wait :)
He can be funny and interesting but talks a whole lot! He shows off a LOT about his life and rich family. His paper's are confusing and he isn't an easy grader. If your not good at writing, take someone like Turney to help you learn more. Flower's is a funny guy too! Don't take him, he doesn't try to help at all.
I love him; Best professor ever! The class scared me silly at first, but if you put your heart and mind into your papers, you'll do well (A). He favors interesting vocabulary and fresh ideas. His office is always open for help on the material. He genuinely cares about his students, and acts in humility towards them. Did I already say I love him?!
Fred has ended up to be a very good friend and will be one to you as well. He's a great professor for beginning students at UNF to get these students where they need to go. I've taken ENC1101 and LIT2000 with him as well. I completely recommend him. Good job, Fred. See you in class again soon. -The Irishman
Is Fred a cool guy? yes, probably the funniest professor/ teacher I've ever had. Will you learn alot? probably not. Fred is a tough grader and much of his class is a waste but you need to go to understand some of the material, but as someone to took AP English senior year, this class taught me nothing. He grades based on how well you argue.
very funny but not a good lit professor did more writing then reading and is very critical
I took this class 6 years ago as in incoming freshman, and let me just say that if it weren't for Dale, I'd probably still be writing 5 paragraph essays. It's pretty simple...do the work, learn from his comments, and your writing will transform. His expertise will provide you with the writing skills you'll need well beyond your freshman year.
Class is a lot of work. Fred is a cool guy, but his assignments can get pretty difficult, especially if you wait til the last minute. I took him for LIT2000, I suggest other teachers. If you are searching for a teacher that you expect to learn a lot from, it's this guy. But if you want an easy A and english isn't your major, try another teacher.
American Road Narrative. We read four novels, and grades came from weekly reading quizzes, four essays, and a "road narrative" of our own. Discussions were interesting, went through the text with us, which helped a lot. Really improved my writing on novels. Would definitely take another of his classes.
He was rude and told the class you'd be lucky to get a C. He gave quizes on the stories we read and asked stupid questions like "what color shirt was he wearing?" If you want a teacher that thinks he is a comedian but isn't funny at all he's the perfect guy for you.
He was definitely an amazing teacher. The class was challenging without being too difficult and he was incredibly funny, despite prior comments stating otherwise. I would definitely recommend him!
A great, fun professor for ENC and Lit. Jokes a lot, real easy, very friendly, and helpful professor.
Great teacher! very funny! It was hard to keep a straight face in the class. He makes the stories interesting. His grading is hard but it makes you a better writer. I would take him!!
Fred is a good teacher. While he may not lecture and teach you about grammar and writing, you should already know how to do those things. He enjoys discussing and creating his own metaphors within books which can sometimes be a stretch. If you don't agree with what he says, write an argument in your paper and he will still give you an A if is good.
Dale is a great professor!! I most definately suggest taking his class if you have the choice. He grades a little on the strict side, but it all depends on grammar and following the question for the essays. Reading is necessary, but his choices are very interesting. He makes everyone in class laugh, really funny. Makes you want to go to class!!!!!!
AWESOME PROFESSOR! He grades papers tough but it honestly makes you a better writer, also he provides so much feedback on your papers that you will understand completely why you got that grade. He dose not reward people who half-ass their papers. The texts were interesting and fun, overall a wonderfully rewarding and enjoyable class! Thanks Fred!!!
GREAT teacher, grades papers tough but i never made less than a B on one. Very interesting and entertaining. Attendance is mandatory,. ALWAYS read required books. They were very interesting nd u have a 4-6 question open ended quiz on every assigned reading but they are EASY. Aside from quizzes, only 5-6 papers make up grade. Loved him!
I took his summer class, we only had to write 3 papers and we had a few in class quizzes. They were simple if you read what was required. He's a very nice teach and is ALWAYS in his office willing to help.
Dale for any of his classes is extremely helpful, inspriational and willing to work with anyone. Has a great sense of humor and is a great writer/poet himself. I recommend him for any incoming freshmen or sophomore for LIT or ENC!
I have taken three classes with Fred (Intro to CRW, Intro to Poetry, and Intro to Lit) and it is safe to say that he is my favorite professor at UNF. He makes every reading enjoyable and really takes time to both challenge and help with the papers he assigns. His Creative Writing workshops are structured efficiently. Take him for any class.
One of the best (if not the best) professors I've ever had at the university. I took his poetry course, and it was phenomenal. He's hilarious and serious about the work his students produce. He also gives very helpful advice. If you skip out on class you'll pay for it. If you're on the fence, jump off and take his course.
This is possibly my favorite writing class I have taken. He made coming to class fun for me. My favorite thing about him is he assigns writing by bring in objects for us to use in the story. An example would be he brought in a ziploc bag of tylenol and told us to write a love story incorporating the tylenol in it. Seriously, if you can take Fred.
GREAT teacher!! He is hilarious and he is a deep thinker but explains himself very clearly. Little A.D.D but he is very helpful and easily relatable. Doesn't seem like a teacher, but a humorous 40-yr. old friend. You have to write 3 short (500 word) papers and 3(1000 word) bigpapers. A few super easy quizzes. Overall very enjoyable class! Got an A!
Fred was the epitome of an excellent college level professor. He expects a lot so it's not a terribly easy class but its not hard to get an A if you put in the time. I enjoyed his enthusiasm and love for the topic. Took summer and it wasn't horrible
Fred is a great teacher and a great person. I took a six-week summer course during which he assigned three 1200+ word papers and read a short novel. This class was not easy and it helps to be a strong writer, but Fred is extraordinarily helpful. He is very friendly, funny, and passionate about teaching. He is always willing to help with your papers
Super awesome dude, fun, helpful
Fred is a great teacher. If you don't like to read or write, avoid this class. He expects a lot of his students, but he doesn't give you more than he knows you can handle. He's very funny and smart and he's passionate about teaching. I highly recommend taking his class.
FRED IS AWESOME! Coming into his class i dreaded english. Now, it is a tough class and he does grade your essays rough. But if you take your rough draft to him and ACE you're guaranteed at least a B+. Besides his grading, he's over a funny guy and made a 4 hour long class enjoyable (i took him over summer b)
I did not find Freds class helpful one bit. While he is a comedic professor, attendance is mandatory or you will be flunked. His surprise quizzes on the readings are irrelevant and make no sense. Fred was never helpful in helping someone to be a better writer.
Fred is an absolutely amazing professor. Very accessible to his students. I despised english prior to taking his class. His passion for english and teaching truly shows, and helped me get into the works we read. Attendance is importance. He's a difficult grader, but he is extremely helpful. I would recommend his class to anyone!
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He is very passionate about his work and one of the most helpful teachers I have had. I recommend him to anyone who has the chance to take him.
If you have to take an English class and can write decent papers, take him. COOLEST PROFESSOR EVER!
This class required writing essays on other people's essays. I found the writing boring, but if you pretend like you are interested, you will get A's on all of your papers. Quizzes are really easy, staying awake not so much. He's very nice and helpful!
I'd rather have Earl teach this class
All time favorite professor, I highly recommend. I was very uneasy about taking this class at the beginning but Fred is so passionate and actually makes the class fun. It's a lot of work but definitely worth it in the end.
Fred Dale is the probably the best professor I've had at UNF thus far. The reading selections he picked were always entertaining and at times thought-provoking. He has good literature taste. He also focused some classes on poetry, which is the main reason I started to like it because he taught it in a new way. NOT TO MENTION FRED DALE IS SUPER HOT.
Very enthusiastic about his material & teaching. Very funny guy. Had to withdraw because I was falling behind. Gotta stay up with your assignments & the writing center will be your best friend.
If you are looking for an easy class, you need to choose a different teacher. Fred's class is not an easy A. The work load is a lot. There are 7 papers total. Reading is assigned everyday and then he uses pop quizzes for attendance. He grades extremely harsh! IF YOU ARE NOT READY TO WRITE PAPERS EVERY WEEK, THEN DON'T TAKE HIM!
I loved his class. His papers require thought and work but overall he is a great and more importantly FAIR teacher.
Probably the best professor I have ever had at UNF. Fred has such a passion for literature, and he has a way of using the text to make it something interesting and relatable. Tough class but Fred is so entertaining that the time just flies by.
Before taking this class I was terrified that I wasn't going to cut it when it came to college English. Yes, it's not the easiest class but Fred was extremely helpful, funny and I had a great time taking his class. I highly recommend him!
Fred will make you laugh all class long and somehow still teach you the lesson. The guy's passion is obvious in his immense knowledge. He is always ready to help whether by email or in person. He has high expectations for his students but is happy to help you meet them. Feels more like an old friend.
Fred is an awesome guy and hilarious but his class is definitely hard. He makes class very interesting and he will give you good feedback on your papers and will help you but there's 7 of them and not to mention quizzes almost every day. He's awesome but only take him if you're willing to write a lot.
I loved this class. Fred is very funny if you like dry humor or sarcastic comments, and it makes the class go by quicker and more enjoyable as a whole. He does require a lot of reading and writing, but it's nothing that's too difficult for a college course. I didn't think he graded very harshly and he does provide a lot of feedback.
His expectations raise as the class goes on, giving students a slight challenge. Propels you to do your best. Pop Quizzes are often, yet easy. Although he is often funny in his lectures, some of his jokes fall flatter than month old soda. If you wanna make him laugh, make puns in your essay titles.
Fred is one of the best professors I've had in my college career. His abundant passion for poetry is contagious. He makes every student feel emotion by the end of the class and gives constructive feedback to ultimately make your writing better. He's also HILARIOUS with a dry, witty humor. Even if you aren't into poetry, TAKE HIM!
Fred Dale is the GOAT. He has no chill. Take him for a great class.
Fred Dale is an amazing professor, while some of his classes are a little on the early side, he keeps his students entertained with his on point humor. This class is not an easy A, expect to write essays that are well thought because he is a relatively tough grader, and he also takes attendance via quizzes. Please please please read the text!
Fred is an amazing teacher. He is so passionate about what he does and it shows. He is always willing to help and gives great feedback on all your papers. He is hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Awesome professor. Super kind and funny. Attendance is a must though, as there is a low limit of how many you can miss before your grade begins to lower. Easy class but educational too. You read, talk about it in class and write papers. Fun class, you won't regret taking him.
Summer B ENC 1143 Fred was an awesome professor. He was a tough grader on essays, but he gave good feedback and told you exactly what he was grading for. I would take his class again. He was good about answering every question you had. If you need help, go to his office hours, he is extremely willing to help you. Fred was also pretty funny.
He's a very funny guy and makes class interesting. He is passionate about creative writing and it shows. He made the class much more enjoyable and made me want to do the work. The feedback he gives is short and concise, but very clear.
I am a student that conforms to what professors want. For Fred's class, it was almost impossible to do. He has favorites and if you are not one of his favorites, good luck getting a B. Fred is extremely rude and he offers little to no feedback on his critiques and during his office hours
Fred was the funniest teacher I've ever had. He makes it a fun and enjoyable class! There will be reading, quizzes, and quite a few essays. However, he is very clear and if you write well and put thought into the essays it is not difficult to get a B or an A. If you wanna skip class, don't take him. I would take him again if I needed more credits!
Prof. Dale is fantastic. He has a great sense of humor which helps the class go by quickly-the guy is hilarious. He provides feedback on every single paper, very detailed; what he likes dislikes about your paper and HOW to improve. Very constructive and helpful. I feel like I have grown as a writer. His expectations are clear.
Fred transforms his standard English class into something worthwhile and memorable. He cares deeply for his students and keeps the material interesting. Yes, he has higher standards for papers, but it is also easy to make a good grade by utilizing his office hours and the Writing Center. Would totally take another one of his classes.
I took Fred for Intro to Poetry and honestly, I found him to be somewhat rude and kind of condescending. I was really excited about this class, but it turned out to be one of my least favorites. I wouldn't take him again, to be honest. I thought he was a pretty unfair grader.
This is the second class I have taken with Fred. He is very helpful, funny, and his expectations are clear. I highly recommend taking advantage of his office hours. Great person and professor!
Hilarious, his lectures are worth going to.
Fred is such a great guy. He clearly loves what he teaches about and often shares some of his work with the class, allowing for vulnerability. His humor is sharp and his compassion for students is great, though he hides it with jokes. Lots of reading, but totally worth it.
Love this professor. He made class enjoyable with his sense of humor. Lot of papers, but he will help you if you take the time to go to his office. It would be beneficial to your grade not to miss a class cause he spends most of time talking about the reading material to prepare you for the papers. If you put forth effort you will get a good grade.
He's clear about his expectations and you have to really work for an A, but it's worth it if you want to improve your writing. He has office hours - TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM. He gives you stuff to work on. He's also the funniest person ever. You won't regret taking this class.
YES One of the best professor's I've ever had. Down to earth, open to new ideas, wants the best for his students. Just keep up with the reading and actually participate. 3 big papers and a few small papers. Some are tougher to write than others but he's available outside class time for help
Professor Dale was so great. He is very funny, and he made coming to class fun. There is always a writing assignment due, so there are a lot. However, there has never been an assignment over 750 words. He also gives great feedback and genuinely wants to see his students writing continue to improve
I have taken 3 of Fred's classes. I highly recommend him to anyone thinking of taking a poetry class. He is funny, but more than that he feels like a friend. This gives leverage in a poetry class because he's relatable. Overall, he is a great professor who is a poet above nothing else, so he is willing to help his students. Take his class!
While there were a lot of readings, everything was helpful and interesting. 3 of 4 of the assigned texts were collections of poetry, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Despite being lot of work, I didn't feel overwhelmed. Poetry critiques are incredibly helpful and even fun. 100% recommend Fred's class whether you like poetry or not!
Fred is one of the best professors I've had at UNF. It really feels like he cares about you and pushes you to do better. He is hilarious and always making the class laugh. His lectures are great and his coursework was not too time-consuming outside of class. Longest assignment was 750 words. You should 100% take him for your third english credit.
Both the textbooks are cheap and you need them to pass the quizzes at the beginning of the week. Fred is hilarious and genuinely cares about each essay he reads. He believes there is creativity in a paper even if we can't see it. There is no final exam nor midterm. Just creative essays with creative prompts. He does focus on grammar a lot!
While he grades hard, Fred always gives good feedback. His class is filled with hilarious stories, both in and out of the text. Theres never a boring class or paper topic. I would recommend his creative writing class but his literature class is fun too.
Fred is SICK! I look forward to his class, was literally sad when I got sick and couldn't go. He is so so funny and tells interesting stories that may or may not relate to the class. His papers are fun and as the class describes... creative. If you don't try on the papers (including critiques) your grade will reflect that. Anyways. Take the class.
I really cant accurately describe how I feel about Fred and his class in 350 characters. So know this, TAKE HIM! He can be a bit of tough grader at times but hes always willing to help. Theres never a dull moment in class. Hes incredibly funny, down to earth and truly cares about each student. My favorite professor thus far! Love ya, Fred!
He is a fantastic professor. He is funny, relatable, and gives good feedback. There was a decent amount of writing but nothing crazy, and it was on interesting topics. I definitely came out of this class a better writer. Attendance is mandatory, but he gives about four absences before it becomes a problem.
Hes a really great person but his poetry critiques are very bad. Hes so nit picky about the line count or rhyming pattern that he doesnt focus on improving your art at all. He grades the critiques harshly like theyre a college paper and not you just giving feedback.
Fred Dale, I thought, was going to be an awesome teacher. But as the semester went on, I soon realized I was wrong. Fred brings too much politics into class, instead of writing. I felt like I was in a debate class and not a creative writing class. Fred is also extremely judgemental so beware. The class was easy but I didn't enjoy Fred.
Fred's class was moved online due to the pandemic so he does try and keep it lighthearted and funny (which is hard to do in a zoom call) you just need a good group. The writing is not as overwhelming as the syllabus makes it seem. He is on the more harsh side of grading but is pretty fair overall. Just put effort in and you'll be okay
Fred can be a bit intimidating at firsthe has a very blunt sense of humor. He gives good feedback on writing and wants to create prompts youre interested in. Participate in your group and turn everything in on time and you should be ok.
If you dont take Fred youre missing out. People who complain on here just didnt utilize his help. Hes always available to help you improve your writing. Use the help he offers. His class isnt an easy A but you will come out a better writer. This is beneficial to any field of study. Going to an average prof wont be helpful to you. Take Fred!!!
Although he can be a tough grader, he tells you what he expects out of your work and if you put in effort you'll be fine. Took this class online cause of covid, he made it bearable, even fun(which can be difficult to do through zoom). The man is absolutely hilarious and overall a great guy. TAKE HIM!! You're missing out if you don't!
I seriously enjoy his class. His prompts make the writing interesting and actually fun. There is a decent amount of work, but nothing crazy. He is quite reasonable with grades. Put effort into your writing, take his feedback into consideration, participate in your group and lecture, and you'll probably end the class a better writer.
Fred made a typically boring class great! He's super clear with you about what he expects, his grading is super helpful, and he always responds to emails politely + quickly. All we did were a couple of papers on some fun/odd topics, but make sure you try because he is a fair grader. I genuinely looked forward to class. He's the best, take him!!
Fred was a fantastic teacher. We only had to write 6 essays the whole semester all of which were around the 600 word limit. He is a character and a little cringe but if that is your kind of humor, it was mine, then you will enjoy his class. Make sure you have a webcam because he requires cameras to be on. And prepare for doing class discussions.
Fred was a gem. He was sarcastic but funny. He gave 5 papers but they were 700 words & less. He was always available for office hours. Go! they will help, especially with papers & critiques. The class was online but he is in person now so the class should be more interesting. Seriously helped me with my writing skills and made me more confident.
I loved taking this class with Fred. ENC1143 was my first English class in college (Zoom) and he definitely made it one to remember. He's cool, understands that students have lives outside of class, and gives great feedback on essays. As long as you show up, pay attention in class, and show him respect, this class will be fun and easy for you.
I chose to wait a while after I graduated to give my experience with Mr. Dale and unfortunately, I have never had such a disrespectful, inaccessible professor in my entire time at UNF. Poor grade? Refuses to help or explain your struggles. I expressed my worries, he got offended and linked me the Ombudsmen of UNF and refused to talk with me. Wow.
I took Fred online. I needed one more English credit for my degree. I am a science major, but this English class was my most favorite course. I enjoyed showing up every time. I felt comfortable presenting. We wrote 5 essays. The longest and final essay was 1000 words. Not bad. Answered my emails promptly and was fair. Wish I could take him again!
Fred has been my favorite professor in college so far. He gives good feedback for essays and the work is pretty straight forward. There are quizzes that come straight from the readings that arent hard if you just read. Hes incredibly funny and cares a lot about what he does. Id take him again if I could.
Fred is my favorite professor. Took this class at 9am and never dreaded going. He makes class fun and interactive while actually teaching you how to improve your writing. you wont regret taking this class!!
Overall, easy class, but very heavy on attendance.
Genuinely looked forward to his classes every week. Tough grader, but gives great feedback that makes sense and is easy to apply in later assignments. Gives pop quizzes on readings, but as long as you read it you will get a 100. Very funny, very personable and interactive with the class.
His class is really fun. He lets students engage in conversation with him and keeps it really entertaining. My favorite professor Ive had at UNF so far. He gives short quizzes on readings which are easy if you read and the writing assignments arent bad. I genuinely enjoy the class and look forward to attending. Attendance is mandatory as well.
Greatest professor in the English Department, dare I say... UNF? Fred is so funny and never ceases to amaze the class with his passion for poetry. The conversations in that class are priceless. Fred's grading can sometimes be harsh but just ask him for help. He just wants to see you become a better writer. Take him! You won't regret it.
I loved taking this class with Fred. He gives you clear expectations on what he wants. Gives great feedback on how to improve your writing. The quizzes are based on the assigned readings. Quizzes are very easy as long as you read it. You can guess what he is going to ask based on thee story. Dont miss class though, attendance affects your grade.
Fred is a really chill guy and is pretty clear about work. Make sure you show up to class though because attendance is a large part of your grade. If you miss enough classes it can be multiple letter grades off. Overall enjoyable class.
Fred knows his stuff. Took his class in the summer and loved it. He keeps the class engaged and tells lots of funny stories. His reading quizzes consist of 5 questions over certain chapters in the book. Clear grading criteria and I would take him again. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Heavy workload for a freshman, but not impossible. In post apocalyptic literature we read 3 books and had to write essays on those books. work overlapped and was stressful at times. Overall great teacher, very funny, and you can tell he genuinely enjoys teaching.
Fred is a great person and genuinely cares. I would recommend him but know he is a tough grader and expects you to have a lot of prior knowledge of the subject. With that, he gives you PLENTY of opportunities to receive extra help from him.
I've never written a rate my professor review, but I had to for Fred. I wish I could take his class again. He is entertaining and genuinely cares about his students. He is clearly very passionate about writing and wants his students to succeed. If I ever get the chance to take another writing course, I'll make sure to keep an eye out for his name.
Fred is the best professor I have had in college. He makes learning enjoyable, as his lectures are engaging, the assignments he gives are interesting and he gives great feedback. He genuinely cares about his students and has a great sense of humor. He is overall just a wonderful person. As long as you attend class, there will not be any issues.
Love this guy
Chill attitude, although may be nitpicky. Lots of essays, but generous time given to write them. Likes interaction whether in class or during office hours.
had him for lower level poetry which is no longer available at unf. i loved his class so much, the best professor i've had at unf. he made me appreciate the art of poetry, and is so knowledgeable about poets etc. he is truly one of a kind and helps you appreciate writing poetry. he is so impactful!! and is very passionate about poetry
BEST PROF EVER. So funny. I've never had anyone better. Great feedback. Strives to see you grow as a writer. Not an annoying sarcasm that some art profs have. Gave extra credit on a quiz at the end of the year. Fair grader I'd say. You won't be able to fail with him if you just try.
Amazing and funny professor. I loved being in his class and discussing the flash fiction we read. Manageable homework. It's not extremely hard, not super easy. Mostly writing/ reading flash fiction. I will give you a reading test on flash fiction. Kinda a hard grader but gives good feedback. Definitely learned a lot.
Took him for CRW2000 & ENC1143 at the same time. He is a great professor who is knowledgeable, caring, funny, respectful, & overall a great human being. His class was definitely 1 of the easiest I've ever taken, which made him a great professor to take while I took upper LVL courses that were insanely hard. Do the work, show up, & you'll get an A.
This professor was not the best (for me). He was very nitpicky and cared too much about very subtle things that did not make an overall difference. Very harsh grader in my opinion, among other things... If you want an easy class to fly by in & you don't like writing 'like that', do not pick him!!!!
This class isn't as easy as it might seem. He's a funny guy, but a tough grader and it can become boring. He was nice and helped at office hours, but unless you're a creative writing major or minor, this class isn't worth it. There are also quizzes, but they're pretty straightforward as long as you keep up with the reading.
We did lots of readings and writing, but he was a really funny dude and did his best to make his lectures interesting. Only thing I have is that I wish we had more creative freedom over the short stories
Professor Dale is a fantastic teacher who makes learning enjoyable. His class is engaging, with interesting assignments and great feedback. Attendance is mandatory, but as long as you put in the work, you'll do well. Unstuck ai can be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
Don't take this class unless you like to write. He's very nit-picky and critiques the smallest things that aren't important. He's funny but his grading bothered me because there's times where I got a C- or a C+ on my essays and I feel like it should've been a B-. Read 3 books the entire semester and had a quiz on the pages we read.
Professor Dale is funny and a good professor. A lot of the bad ratings are just because they didn't get the grade they wanted. Yes, he does grade a bit difficult but he gives great feedback attached onto the assignments which can help you get an A next paper. The lowest essay grade I got was a B- which turned into an A due to his feedback.
