his exams are pretty easy. his final is exactly the same as the study guide. if u dont get a 100% on ur final then u must be dumb. only bad thing was that u had to go to 4 concerts which costed 15 bucks each and write a report on it.
his class is kinda boring, 1/2 the time you watch movies. The concert reports you have to do are soooo easy. he has too many students to read them all, so he literally gives you full credit for just turning it in with proof that you actually went. EASY
Teacher does not like 2pac.. Very boring videos and lectures about jazz.. All of beverly high is in the class.. Not enough diversity in the class.. L.P.P. FO EVER
one big factor is that he DOES NOT LIKE TUPAC. which is a concern for me and other fellow tupac fans, it kinda concerns me that a black guy does not like tupac, i think theres something wrong with him, but over all its pretty damn easy. 2PAC 4 LIFEE!!!
I took lyles b4--n he didn't no how 2 teach. Both prof r boring, but atleast u get to have some real notes 4 studying. Its a fairly easy class, just do ur EASY concert reports, and study 4 ur written tests and ALWAYS show up to class. Ur bound to get an A
I am a fan of jazz, so I very much enjoyed his class. He really tells you everything you need to know about the subject and he is a very nice and intelligent professor. If you don't like jazz, BEWARE.
Easy class... IF you have the tests to start with. IF you dont, they are way to hard, you dont cover everything on the tests in class. Tests were to long. BUT concert reports: EASY
Easy Tests... Easy Concert Reports.... Easy teacher...and finally Easy A...!!
I took Keith's jazz ensemble which was a great experience as I am a musician. Keith picks some great tunes which are both challenging and fun to play. Lets you put your own input into the tunes, and you meet some great musicians. Get to play shows!
"one big factor is that he DOES NOT LIKE TUPAC" What do you expect? It's a JAZZ class, not a Tupac class. If you hate jazz, then why would you take a jazz class? I love jazz, and Keith Fiddmont made me love it even more. If you're a good musician, take his jazz ensemble too. Great experience!
He is a nice gay.He gives alot home work.He gives you 13 chapters to read weekly in the short session. If you are not perfect in English you will get D or C.Do not take him.
Well to be honest he's not really a bad teacher. He does his best to explain everything, but it's the students who don't respond. Most people are just there to fulfill the IGETC, so they tend not to pay full attention to the class. There are some concert reports, but they're not that hard.
ONE OF BEST TEACHERS AROUND.
ALL I KNOW BESIDEs LEARNING GREAT MUSIC IN JAZZ WITH THIS GREAT TALENTED TEACHER IS THAT HE IS SOOOO DEFINITELY ....A MAJOR [not minor) HOTTTTIEEEE !!!! Great soprano SX player and a very fine bun too !!!!
Keith Fiddmont is talented and knows what he's talkin' about when it comes to being jazzy. He feels the music in the raw. This man is totally handsome and fine! What a sexy dawg.....he smells good too and wears nice clothes ... he's got it goin awnnn!
Fiddmont is the easiest of the easiest. dont take lyles!! take fiddmont. I got an F with lyles an A with Fiddmont. Hes really experienced Jazz musician too. Really nice guy.
easiest class i ever had in my life. i didnt do anything exept concert reports and as easy as possible i got A.
really easy!! my test point were berow the average point, however i got A. just do the consert report, go to class. That's it. lots of extra point available.
Dude is the bomb. He is in my opinion a bit too tolerable of the idiots I was in class with. They talked like little girls most of the class and he only kid one of them out once. He knows his stuff and Jazz seems to be his passion. Just do the concert reports and study for the tests and you will do great.
GREAT TEACHER, DO ALL ASSIGNMENT AND YOU'LL DO FINE, READ SOME OF THE TEXT AND YOU'LL DO GOOD. TAKE HIM.
He is definitly tooooo lenient when it comes to the annoying children that sit in the back and talk all period long. Most people in the class cheat and he never "sees" them or punishes them. But definitly learn a lot about jazz and a very easy class if you do what he wants.
I took Mr. Fiddmont for Music 32 and was so great, I decided to take this class. This man knows and loves what he's teaching! He really makes it easy and is the nicest teacher ever. I just wish that the idiots(my class was full of them) could shut up and listen to the information he was giving us. Mr. Fiddmont deserves way more respect!
Not knowing anything about jazz, I didn't know what to expect. Well all I can say is that Mr. Fiddmont made this class so interesting! I really liked his lectures and I loved going to the "Jazz Bakery". You can tell this man loves what he's teaching. I agree with the others who say that he's not getting the respect he deserves. Truly a great prof.

interesint class, you will learn about the origins of jazz in america. powerpoints plus text. can get by w/o text just make sure you are clear the exam material. 4 short essays, 4 multiple choice exams, 2 listening exams.. class enrolls 100? students so it is sometimes difficult to hear lecture when there is some sh*tface behind you yapping away.
I got an A without putting much effor to it. The test questions are from the study guide and listening exams are super easy. Many ppl take this class to improve GPA b/c it is an easy-to-cheat class. Super laid back class and easy A. Highly recommended
He sucks. overrated. I got a B and I worked.. dunno how everyone got an A
Jazz Ensemble. Damn. If you don't know Jazz like the back of your hand don't apply. He is not there to teach you, honestly he's not. He is there to get you to challenge yourself and a chance to play with a band and get concert experience. Not for the Average Joe, seriously. So if you know Jazz Theory its an easy cool class. Funny guy too.
Take his classhe is very kind and nice teacher. And also he is very helpful! Take him!
Great teacher. Always clear and always helpful. The only time he ever got upset was when people wouldn't stop talking while music was playing or he was talking (class is in an auditorium). An easy 'A' unless you slack off or don't learn how to study the material properly.
wow, i would be extremeley surprised if there was an easier class to get an a in the world, let alone smc. Thats all you need to know..good luck you wont need it
Really easy class and you would have to try really hard not to learn something. You walk away with an A and enhanced culture!
If you are not a horn player, then don't bother trying to talk to him. I played guitar and not once did he ever acknowledge mine or the other guitarist presence nor did he speak one word to either of us during the semester. It's an easy class though. But, his selection of Jazz is pretty bland though, no diversity. Sticks to big band stuff mostly.
Great Professor. Went into class expecting an easy A, but it was somewhat challenging and extremely rewarding class. Absolutely wonderful experience. Highly recommend to anyone.
My only complaint about this teacher is he needs to put some of his students in their place. I took this class during the 6 week course and there were way too many disrespectful high school students.
its not an EZ A if that what u are expecting, u do need to study before tests and pay attention to his lectures. his tests are not as ppl say, but the final is open note so its EASY. concert reports are annoying to do but they are easy A, and listening test are fun to do~ his very nice and intelligent, just too many ppl in his class were rude&loud.
Fiddmont knows his stuff but can't keep his class under control. Getting an A isn't hard, but the class was made up some of the most irritating and stupid people I've ever encountered.
He is the nicest man I've ever met! He knows his stuff. If you can not get an A or B in this class your just plain lazy ..... he wants everyone to pass.
He is supersexy when he shouts or when he is mad at students....SUPERSEXY...
fun, easy class but don't take it over the summer if you have zero tolerance for immature high school students (he spent too much time telling them to be quiet when kicking them out of the class would have been faster).
I took his class in the Summer of 2009. There was MANY immature student, and he constantly kept telling them to shut up.Besides that, he uses power point.Easy to understand. READ THE BOOK.Once again, READ THE BOOK. Complete Jazz Concert Reports, DON'T turn them in LATE. His test are pretty medium-easy. Overall great teacher!!
Awesome professor. Highly recommend him. Just don't take this class during the summer. The class was about 150 plus with immature high school students who didn't care about learning. I actually think this professor may be Buddha in disguise for putting up with all the kids. Again, simply awesome. Take this class, and have fun.
He does everything to give his students A, if you cant get an A from this class, you are an idiot! 3 concert report, 3 listenig test and multiple choise exams. He gives detailed study guides before all the exams.
He is a really good teacher. Pretty funny. Loved his class. Pretty easy to pass. Not too much work. Take it!
Fiddmont is an enthusiastic teacher who makes history of jazz interesting! I really ended up enjoying the class.
Pay attention to lectures or at least when he gives out the answers for the study guides. The final is open book. Just memorize for the first couple minutes to his listening tests and turn in your 3 concert reports. Its an easy class.
Awesome. Very knowledgeable.
Seriously an amazing person. Not only does he sincerely care about his students he's also excited about what he teaches. It's a fairly easy course and you'll definitely enjoy the videos during classes. You have a few concert reports and tests.
VERY Easy!! Ask around! Everyone will tell you that this class is an easy A! I went to class once a week and I ended up being 1 of the top A's in the class!
I LOVE PROFESSOR FIDDMONT! TAKE HIM TAKE HIM TAKE HIM! :)
SUPER NICE AND COOL DUDE!!!! K.FIDD IS THE HOMIE!!! Easy class and if you want to learn you can learn a lot from him. He is incredibly knowledgable. However for the most part, everyone is there for an easy A and the class can be intellectually un-stimulating. GO LAKERS!
Pro: Jazz is interesting. Cool youtube songs. Early dismissals. Concert reports are fun. Very nice professor. Very lenient. Cons: Hard Tests. No AC. Need to memorize. Too many immature, disrespectful high school students. feels like high school all over again. A total joke!.....do not take if u really want to learn. SO happy the semester is over...
Awesome teacher and easy A. Highly recommend it!
Easy A. Very organized and informative. Took him for fall semester and he was very direct in what you need to memorize and study for listening exams and tests.
one of the best teachers ive ever taken at smc, he is a really chill guy. I was expecting to hate the class because it is history and ive taken it before and straight failed with drayton, but hemade me actually really enjoy the subject...ohh yea ez A
the class is EASY!plus we have take home final this time ! Will receive full credit in concert report !?Most students got an A !
Great lectures. He is very knowledgeable. Also I didnt turn in one of the concert papers, and he forgot to put in a 0 for my grade, so it was like I was never assigned the paper. How about that.
Get at least a C on all the tests (you have to study, four tests); turn in the concert reports on time; get 100%s on the listening tests and boom! You'll get an A
EASY A. Get at least a C for test and hand in all the concert reports on time, then you will be fine.
Fiddmont knows what he is talking about; make sure to do the concert reports on time, but do not be discouraged if you do poorly on the exams. Pass the exams and you will get an A in the class. Try not to disrupt the classroom and he usually lets you out early.
Fidmont is a nice guy. Just do all the concert reports and get A's on the listening tests, and try your best on the exams. Theyre not too hard.
This professor is a little boring in class but his tests are easy as long as you review the guideline he gives to you.But you have to finish two concert report in one semester which is not easy.Anyway, it's easy to get a A if you work a little bit hard on this class. Highly recommended class for the students who just begin their college life!!!!!!!
Take a good grade on your listening exam and your concert report and you will be fine
He was such a nice professor. When student 89%, he grade A. No HW and he give the studying guide before exam which almost cover all content in the paper. He had given us all A in our concert report. He do not require the text book because he upload the ppt in ecompany every time.
he is very nice and funny guy, best prof in smc
He pretends to be more strict than he is. You do have to do 2 concert reports for the class, but they're fun and easy to do. He is not a tough grader with those. Taking a class from a prof who is passionate about jazz and musician himself is what makes this class extra special.
Fiddmont is a cool guy. But his history of jazz course is basically one big powerpoint presentation; he throws a lot of facts at you and just wants you to regurgitated it back onto tests. Sometimes he shows youtube videos or tells some more in depth stories, which is cool. Mixed feelings. Could have been much better.
TAKE HIM!!!!
I wasn't interested in the subject, but he is a nice professor. Easy A and would take a class with him again.
Professor Fiddmont has great knowledge to impart but his classes were sometimes on the verge of chaotic. He could use more planning and organization.
I took this class in summer. Easy A even without extra credit. I found the material pretty interesting as an international student. No homework. 3 tests, 2 concert reports, and 2 listening tests.
Whether you like jazz music or not, Fidd's class is worth taking. He knows that majority of the kids taking Music 33 just need the credit, and he delivers it as long as you turn in the 3 assignments. Fidd is a real life hip sax playing jazz cat, and also a funny and cool guy. Just take his class- even if you're bored, you'll still get an A.
Took this class over the summer and I can honestly say Professor Fiddmont is truly brilliant. Prof Fiddmont provides clear grading framework. Only 3 tests and 2 concert reports. Concert reports are a breeze just make sure you don't procrastinate, they're easy points. For tests, just take good notes and review with classmates. Take him! :)
take this class during winter session, Prof Fiddmont is really nice guy. Classes are fun and he is brilliant! 3 tests, 2 concert and 2 listening tests just review the study guide and Powerpoint, you will be ok and get A. Take him!
Fiddmont knows his Jazz- His way of teaching is interesting and engaging. He shows youtube videos, movies, and plays the piano for us. Fiddmont is a genius in many ways. I knew so little about Jazz and I came out of his class ready to learn more. I would recommend this class for sure. Wonderful- Beyond words.
I did not like having Professor Fiddmont. Whenever I would have questions/concerns about the assignments or exams he would never respond to any of my emails. Even In person he would just look unapproachable and have attitudes. I'm not saying he's not good at what he teaches but you're not being a good professor if you lack communication.
Took the scholars class. Was not expecting it to be a history of Af. American culture. I realized how much the CA school system was really failing us growing up with how much I learned about slavery, reconstruction, Jim Crowe. Found out I love the "cool" genre. Recognized a Miles Davis song in a recent film. My world has expanded thanks to Fiddmont
I took his winter course and I really enjoyed it. His grading is straightforward and he really wants students to pass his class with a good grade. 3 exams, 2 concert reports and 2 listening tests. He's very understanding and works with students
If you are not a musical genius, or not willing to become one during this course, I advise you not to take his class. I took online music appreciation with Fiddmont since I really enjoy music and music theory, and have taken a music appreciation class before; however this was one of (if not THE) worst class I've ever taken. Please save yourself!
I like Professor Fiddmont as a person- he is very kind and passionate about music. However, he is unorganized, horrible at responding to emails and his grading criteria is never clear. I was often confused about when tests/lectures were, what was required in concert reviews, etc. He never told us about the final or said goodbye, which made me sad.
Getting an A in this class was just from luck. Do not take this class if you aren't interesting in studying music. Lots of reading and timed quizzes w proctoring! Started off fine in the beginning but workload got more intense. At the end of the semester I was drowning in work from this class.
Basically gives full points for every assignment but the tests. I didn't show up for classes or watch any lectures. I only went on the days he was going over the tests. I was able to study day of and I made sure I knew the study guide answers he went over. Easiest A. Take the class online only, trust.
Took his class online, and he was the best. Frequent tests and lots of material, but as long as you listened to his lectures and read the worksheets you'll be fine. Fair amount of homework, but very easygoing on grading. Show some effort on your papers and he'll give you full points. Just remember to memorize for the tests and you'll get an easy A.
Had a great time learning about jazz history. Really made me appreciate the genre and the struggles musicians had to go through especially African Americans. Prof Fidd made class very fun and interesting. Very easygoing and passionate about jazz.
He does PowerPoints and shows videos during lectures. He usually ends them early which is nice. The assignments might take a while but you'll do well on them if you follow the instructions. There are 3 tests and they're okay but sometimes there are questions we didn't cover in the lectures. He's a nice guy-- I'd take him if you need the class.
I took Jazz appreciation and I completely fell in love. Thoroughly enjoyed Fiddmont! I actually learned and was able to enjoy the course. Was online but had zoom with him and still saw the passion he had for music! To me its all about learning. Real learning. If you are in college to enjoy every class you take.. then everything will come easy A.
I took his class over zoom and it was an easy A! the course consisted of only 4 assignments excluding the tests which were also easy. Overall laid back guy with lots of knowledge, would take again!
Even though the class itself was easy, the structure was questionable. It didn't feel organized and you could easily get lost. The advantage, however, is that the hardest part of the class is the three 50 multi-choice tests which you will get a study guide for. The rest is very easy.
If you're trying to get an easy g.e out of the way take this class. There are only 4 assignments to do. If you take this class in a long semester there are 4 tests (including the final) and 3 tests in a short semester. You can find the test answers anywhere on google.
Easy class. If you are an international student, take this class. All the answers are online and you just have to memorize the jazz songs for the listening exams. Three concert reports, which are really easy to do as well.
A very fun class with engaging topics. Grades fairly and doesn't mind if you don't like jazz just as long as you do the work. Biggest tip is to look over the study guide and make him go over every question. His slideshow doesn't cover everything on the tests. Great guy, actually got me into jazz as someone who likes mainstream music.
I took Professor Fiddmont for Scholars MUSIC 33, and he was kind, understandable, and overall a good teacher. I wasn't confused by much, had clear instruction and walk-throughs for exams, and was able to balance my grade (got a 60 on listen + analyze, still ended up with an A). Highly recommend Fiddmont for academic music courses for all students.
Very interesting class, if you do all the work you'll probably get an A. Easy and interesting class.
Professor Fiddmont is a very caring teacher with a passion for education. I've taken his jazz ensemble class multiple times. I'm not a very talented musician, so I got some advice from him and it helped me get better. I've never seen him treat a student harshly or condescendingly, always respectful and helpful.
Amazing professor who is super passionate about music! I am not someone who is very interested in music and took this as a scholars gen Ed requirement but found myself knowing a lof of the materiel without needing to study too much. Four tests, two or three listening exams, one project and three concert reports. Fun class you should take!
This guy is amazing. Literally do not sweat it. Also the final is a live event, which was so fun to attend!! This class didn't even feel like work, it was sooo enjoyable and definitely the most fun I've ever had at college lol
Took him for winter and he's an AMAZING teacher! his lectures were engaging and well-organized, making the material easy to understand. He created a really enjoyable learning environment without overloading us with work. On top of that, he genuinely cared about his students success. Highly recommend his class
Easy class with interesting jazz history. Assignments are manageable, and study tools like Unstuckstudy are helpful for test prep. Passionate professor who makes the class fun.
Took the scholars section. All exams are taken at home except the final. The only other assignments were 3 easy concert reports (2 pages double spaced) and an easy presentation.
