Not very clear in explaining topics. But, nice teacher.
the 5a he teachs is eally easy...especially the exam....
A little weird but a very nice teacher. Collects the homework consistently and the tests are pretty straight foward.
He is very funny and has an effective way of teaching MATH. His tests are fair and he always explains things to you if you need help. He is not an easy A, but he is not overly strict. all around a good teacher.
omg this teacher is horrible! his stuttering makes it so difficult to learn! and his analogies don't make any sense. also, he DOES NOT TEACH! i didn't learn anything from HIM in the class. i had to learn it all myself!
don't take his class if your math is poor , otherwise it'll get worst !!! his teaching is super borning , even if you listen , you won't understand , you better read the book byyourself. His grading is funny ,not a good thing !
Dr. Keene is a true pioneer in teaching mathematics. He made a complicated equation simple to understand by using example common to human life. I can hope my next math teacher knows him.
Absolutely the worst math teacher ever. DO NOT take him because he will bore you to death. So much homework and teaching style horrible. If you want to take him make sure he is the ONLY class you take if you want to survive!!!!!!!!!!!
bad teacher
HE'S THE WORST MATH TEACHER IN THE DEPARTMENT. I WAS TAKING HIM DURING FALL 2003 AND I JUST 2 DAYS AGO. THERE'S ONLY 10 STUDENTS LEFT IN THE CLASS. HE DOESN'T EXPLAIN ANYTHING. HE HAS NO WAY OF TEACHING. WE EVEN COMPLAINED THE DEAN OF MATH DEPARTMENT;
ABSOLUTE WORST TEACHER. This guy can't teach. Hard to understand. Tests are scored unfairly. Homework overly excessive.30-40 problems a night and he does not ease up! Can't learn ANYTHING from him! I highly do NOT recommend this "teacher?"!
He gives a lot of homework..and he is driving me crazy~~~!!!
He is a nice teacher. He is willing to answer your questions, but sometimes find difficult to understand the concepts. His test is not that hard if you study.
He is a very nice teacher. If you ask him questions, he will be very kind to answer. Pay attention in class, you will understand what is he talking about. Sometimes his explaination is not very clear. I think that's ok.
He's a very understanding professor and often tries to help. A complaint though that many students in my class have had is that his explainations and lectures arent very helpful.
Although he is always willing to help, he may just confuse more when you ask. He is a nice guy but his way of teaching(babbling) might have the best of him.... Do not take him during a 6wk span if you aren't that great in Math. This is a sef-taught class.
This teacher is not good! He cannot concentrate, he is the worst I've ever had!

forget what all the above said, prof. Keene is the BEST MATH teacher PCC!!! very helpful. all u need to do (and understand) the hw. tests are not confusing, so if u get the hw, u will be very successful in the class. i got a B during the winter session!
He is possibly the worst teacher i've ever had. He doesn't explain anything, and if he tries, he'll confuse you even more. He babbles on about nothing, and takes a year to show you how to do a problem...it was a big mistake getting him for a teacher.
may be confusing in his lectures but very passionate about math (if you can believe that. he will also go out of his way to help you with problems.
Dr. Keene does not like following the text book. He doesn't teach new math concepts step by step. If you are not strong in math, do NOT take this class! I aced math 125 and am completely lost in math 131 with Dr. Keene.
a lot of homework, but grades fairly. passionate about math & it shows through his lectures. go to his office hours, he's more than happy to help. his final isn't too hard as long as you reviewed. he got me to understand things that i couldn't get in HS.
First of all, this guy is really wierd. (you'll know what I'm talking about if you've seen him around) One thing I might add is that DO NOT take him during the summer sessions or winter sessions. He's too fast paced, so i encourage not to take him
This guy is awful. He's got a total math brain and can only think in terms of math, which will make the class difficult for those not proficient in math. His lectures are nonsense as he can hardly ever finish a thought and the boy needs a break from math.
I took Prof. Keene for the summer and I must say it was the most difficult class I've ever taken. He is a fair grader, though. Long, drawn-out explannations about math and its origins, but he'll help you when ya need it. He needs a chalk eraser, though
Horable! No way to pass, unclear, confusing and the professor confuses himself w/ the explanations!
his lecture is very hard to understand for people who are not good in Math. I got B in summer, but there were less and less people after weeks lol well he is really helpfull when u go ask him questions. if u r gud at Math, go for him.
he is the easiest i ever see in this school, but if have to study on your self and at the class you will not really understand all, and you'd better know this course already
Dr. Keene is a sweet man (you people making fun are horrible). The problem is, even though he is a brain, he isn't good at getting his point across. I used to come to class and zone out and then do the work on my own.
He's not easy, but the important things in life rarely are. If he sees doubt in your eye, he will attempt to explain the problem more clearly. He gives partial credit, where it is earned. He's such a great teacher that I'm taking him for calculus.WARNING:His passion for math can be contagious!
if you do not do well in math do not..take..he is the most confusing teacher i have ever taken. its wierd how many poeple have commented on him...hprrible teacher...
Dude...I must say it was really tough. He will help you until you get sick and tired of math. I don't know why people are complaining too much. He's an awesome teacher!!! The only thing that kind of bothered me was the fact that he assigned TOO MUCH HOMEWORK! Other than that, A+++
Dr. Keene is the best! MAJOR CURVE! You would know what I mean if you take his class. F could turn into a C, C could turn into an A. He's so helpful "IF YOU ASK HIM". You shouldn't be intimidated by him. I'm planning to take him again for Calculus in the future! A+++ Thank You Dr. Keene!
i took this class over winter.. kinda tough, because he teaches two chapters at once (that means a test after test..) he's very enthusiatic about math.. his tests can be a little hard.. you really have to understand the topic to solve the problems..
The worst teacher i've ever had, and I got an A, so you don't think i'm just mad, he is very nice, but he's not physically fit to teach, he stutters, he's very hard to understand, you HAVE to learn on your own, he spends 20 minutes on one problem so there's no time left for others, he can't even see
He is cool.
Adorable, sweet, little old man. To the person two below me- You are evil. He has old school style teaching techniques and is hard. Who cares if he studders or can't see? I bet you smell like B.O. so shut up.
He sucked!!! He never explained how to do anything, he just would mutter to himself..hmmm..said...said...!! He loves word problems and they are worth 20 points on each test--and there will be 5 of them plus other problems. Worst teacher i have ever had.
Very hard because he teaches 2 chapters at the same time...doing the harder exercises before he teaches the basics.
Worst math teacher I've ever had. Math is already hard to understand by itself but with him it just makes it impossible. He stutters and mumbles so you can't hear him. Wastes a lot of time on 1 problem and his teaching methods arent great. Gives tons of homework which wouldnt be too bad if he explained it right. Avoid him if you can.
he is not cool!!!but he is a nice person!!!but he is terribly hard!!!!impossible!!!1he is not good in teaching!!but go ask a question alone then he will teach you nicely!!!i think thats more effective!!!but he is damm dam dam hard!!!!!so take it at your own risk guys and gals!!!ummaaaaaa.............
i agree that he is nice but he is not good at teaching.. he seemed like he didnt prepare for teh class. if you are taking calc. then you need someone who teaches really well. who motives u. so dont take him if you are not good at calc. also.. socrates is really good!
He is the most difficult math teacher i've taken, but if you are a good student, you will be a better student for taking him. If you prefer to be told how to do something rather than be given the opportunity to figure things out for yourself, take someone who will tell you what to do. Dr. Keene, I hope you have a great summer!
Horrible. I took him for summer intersession and dreaded the class. He was okay and sort of nice, but he had no knowledge of his subject. He was also very easy, and I passed his class, but I felt that he didn't prepare me for other classes. Prof. Zhuang is better, take him for this class. Stay far away from this teacher, far, far away.
Meh, Prof. Keene is okay. I think for a Pre-Algebra class, his class was way, way too easy. It was more like an Arithmetic class. I just felt that he wasn't very nice, nor clear. He wasn't clear on what the student needs to do. His tests were okay, but after I finished the class, I felt that I didn't learn much after completing the course.
This teacher is one of the best math teachers. he keeps on explaining the work you dont understand until you do. his tests arent so bad and he is a nice man.
he is a nice professor...but he doesn't teach. all he does is go over homework and half the time he's lost. he keeps going back and forth until he loses you. better off teaching yourself. his tests are okay... but no clue on what its on. homeworks are pretty much the whole section each night.
he's a nice person, but he doesn't know how to teach, he wasted time on the lecture and just going back and forth. tests are ok,not very easy, but grading is fair. i think he's fine for teaching lower level math courses, but not those need detailed explainations
Mr. Keene is a really nice old man but he just cannot teach.Half the class time he only goes over the homework which is a whole ton every night and his test are pretty hard. Really nice but not just right to teach. So if you want someone easy DO NOT get KEENE definitely DO NOT get KEENE!!
I think his class is easy because I'm good at math.
this class is VERY HARD! he gives a lot of homework. the only good thing is that he's willing to answer questions, but you cant be scared to ask! he curves SOME of the tests. if you do your homework and understand it, you'll do fine, otherwise, prepare to fail.
Dr. Keene is a very nice man, but I had a hard time understanding his teachings. On the other hand, he does keep on going over the work until everyone understands it.
he's a love or hate type of guy. i like to take it slow, it helps me understad the matieral, so i liked his class very much. as for the homework, most of the other professors give much more.
very smart guy, but his teaching style can be very difficult. class time is 80% reviewing homework questions and 20% lecture at the end. so be prepared to study on your own. diffult exams, but doing the homework is a big part of it.
Took in winter intersession, big mistake. He changes subject a lot, goes over HW longer than lecture. Doesnt teach he simply writes on the board & doesnt explain. He makes mistakes when working out problems which confused me more. Gives lots of homework, tests are hard. Likes to work in groups, which doesnt help because no one works. BAD!
not easy to follow at all! didn't go over the nights homework but expected you to do it by reading the book and the next day he would go over hw problems. When asking quyestions he wouldn't explain why. All over the place and would not recommend.
He only teaches the material after the material is due. Very hard to understand him- he mumbles a lot.
He is very nice. He didn't take roll in his class and just let us sign the sign-in sheet. I can leave whenever I want and I still got a B in the class.
Nice guy, but teaches completelly different from the text, and expects you to know things that he doesn't assign, or go over. Grades on answers instead of process knowhow. Is often wrong when showing how to do problems. I reccomend NOT to take his classes. I regret it.
I took this class over the summer and i'm not gonna say it was very easy, but he tries to help you out and his grading scale is very fair knowing that it is a summer class. I recommend him if you are looking for a kinda hearted teacher who is interested in helping you learn.
he studers a lot.
After we finish the hwk the night before, he will ask if there are any questions on the hwks and he spends almost the whole period trying to help you understand the problem(s). Same thing with tests. He is very helpful and nice. Also, you have to pay attention to him even if you understand everything because he will yell at u if u don't.
He's nice but not good at teaching. He gave us lots of hw, and he spent time to answer our questions. His schedule and gradings are clear. But sometimes he can't catch up the schedule, you have to study yourself and still do your homework. I had his morning class at 7, he's on time!
Dr Keene is so great in teaching!
Dr Keene's test are fairly easy, but his class lacks interesting anf fun. He knows his stuff but he lacks in explaining. The average grade of his 5B class is B, so that he is an easy professor.
I would highly recommend against taking this professor. He seems like a very smart guy, but he doesn't convey his methods very well. He also stutters a good amount during lectures. His tests are about a 9 out of 10 in difficulty. The specific problems he tells us to study in the book only cover about a third of what is really on the tests.
Math 8 with this professor is HELL. He stutters a lot and says "said/say" A LOT, I counted 140 times in an hour, gets annoying. He cannot convey his ideas very well. Too much detail in his lessons, just give me the dam formula! The problems he gives for review is often not on the tests. TAKE THIS CLASS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
he just can't teach. spent 85% of the class time doing one or two problems from the previous homework. lectures are very unclear, unfair grading,
Dr Keene doesn't explain his lectures very well. i agree with the other comments, he does spend most of his time on Hw problems and sometimes he can't solve them! he can be an unfair grader, so watch out and compare points taken off with other students. Dr Keene isnt so bad if you know math. if you dont, beware you'll have to learn math on your own
hrmmm.....said who? this teacher love to say said and say..someone should ask said or say who? personally i dont think hes a great teacher. he can teach his stuff but like previous comment sometimes he dont know what he is doing. he is helpful but be warn u have to study yurself. all u do in class is going over the homework. test are not the same
Dr. Keene may know his stuff, but he is a horrible professor! He cannot convey his ideas, his lectures are unorganized, and he makes a lot of mistakes. He gives way too much homework and spends too much time going over it. Highly advise not to take his class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER.He does not know howto teach even i think he knows math really well he just doesnt know how to explain.Gives you hw that that is due daliy and that you have to do online.Wat he teaches yu in class and wat he gives u for hw is not on the test.If u want a good grade either take another teacher or u better be ready to teach yo
The man has one eye, but he is a master mind straight out of MIT and UC Berkeley. His lectures are breathtaking and filled with anecdotes about the history of how certain mathematical formulas/methods delevoped! This is a 2 in 1 deal! A math class and a history class! AWESOME PROFESSOR!
This professor has a lot of bad habits that bothered me. He always has chalk all over himself and always says say/said when he doesn't know how to explain something. He is really smart, but he doesn't know how to convey his ideas to the students, so most drop out. My class went from 40 to 10.
Not bad. He is easy.
Im wondering how this guy can be a professor. He has no skills at all. The funny thing is when I was trying to add his class, he refuse with less than 20 stundents in his class. ROFL!! He is the type of person only working for money. He just wants less people in his class. Dont take his class if you are looking for a PROFESSOR cuz he is not.
He's a funny little old man. He only has one eye!! Its an easy class, but he really doesn't help.
do not take his class. he doesn't know how to teach, very hard on the test(he just try to make u fail), he give no partial credit on the test. only thing good is that he cruve the class, but
Do not take this professor coz he is one of the worst professor at PCC. He can't teach, and he is really a non-organized guy. sometimes he might lost your hws. His tests are not easy. (maybe the first 2 tests are somewhat easy).
The man is a weirdo! In addition, he is by far the worst math professor in history! He assigns hw that he didnt even lecture in class. He never explains anything propoerly. He just writes a bunch of**** on the board and expects you to understand it. Take my word for it, DO NOT GET THIS PROFESSOR!!!
ONE, I mean, TWO WORDS: WORST PROFESSOR! his class was sooo boring and is not helpful at all! he expects u to know everything about calculus! He might have a PhD but that doesnt mean hes a great teacher. DONT TAKE HIM! IF HES YOUR ONLY OPTION, STUDY LIKE CRAZY!!!
He reminds me of grumpy. His lectures are not that great he talks about how the concepts and equations came about. he's boring and i fall asleep in class. doesnt care about tardies just sign in on the sheet. do your homeworks which he collects the day of each test. basically teaching yourself from the book -_- he's really not much help
if you actually pay attention and try you will get at least a B. he is a good teacher for all you complainers. AND he curves the class. i got an A and was taking 2 other classes. i think people are just put off by his personality but i would take a high grade over personality any day. CURVES!!!
He makes things way more complicated than they need to be. He often loses track during overly abstract lectures. He almost never uses the book. His lessons are not pertinent to the homework at hand. He is enthusiastic at times, but not without causing utter confusion. He makes many mistakes that confuse those who take his teachings literal.
Worst professor I've ever had, by far. Avoid at all costs.
This old man is really nice and kind, but he doesn't do well in teaching math. sometimes he made me confused, and he like to put the graghing questions in the test, but he never taught us how to draw them just let us do homework online, which made me lost at least 50 points in total
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! Don't take unless you u really know math, he's old, confused, and senile. Never take for your life, unless u wanna fail. I think I'm going to fail as well. Teaches useless , unnecessary crap that doesnt reflect hw, heck he doesnt teach anything at all, I'd rather jump off a bridge...
he is a terrible professor- super boring, goes all over the place, and not comprehensible, but his tests are easy. if you know what you're doing and are only taking his class to clear a prereq, it's not hard to get a good grade in his class.
The worst math teacher I've ever had. I was jazzed about Trig, and he killed it for me. Never gets to the point in lectures, confuses himself all the time, no connection between lecture and hw. Tests on material he never explained. It's bad enough the textbook does a poor job, he makes it more confusing. Avoid him like the plague.
I would avoid taking this class if you haven't touched trig in a while. If you've just come out of math 8, you will stand a chance because you remember what you have learned. This prof. barely teaches anything as he proofs the formula instead. You have to self-teach/remember the stuff. His test aren't that bad but new stuff will destroy you.
A nice guy as long as you dont interupt his class. If you are not good at Math do NOT take his class.
Disappointing, I would recommend to avoid. Does not cover all material needed. Does not explain concepts well. Can be mean and/or sarcastic at times. You will have to put a lot of effort to get a good grade (i.e. teaching yourself.) However, aside from the final(very difficult), the 6 tests are very easy. All homework is done online.
He's a nice guy he is howevr past his prime in teaching. I had 2 take this class due 2 a lack of options and unless you do too DONT take him. He literally; yes, literally, cant cmplete his own exmpls. Will give up on them in class if he gets to them at all. If ur proficient in math youll survive if not DONT TAKE HIM. U will have 2 teach urself!
If you have any other options, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Lectures don't cover the homework very well at all and he expects you to do 60-70 problems online a day. His review problems are often not relevant to what is on the actual test. often includes problems from other chapters on the test. Easily the worst math teacher I've ever had.
He's a nice guy, and is kind of funny. He made airplane sounds when describing the curve of sin(1/x) near the origin. I like how he has the class break of into groups and discuss math amongst each other. The downside is he can be slow when solving problems, so you'll just have to figure some of them out on your own or from other sources.
I feel really sorry for him. He's a nice guy but he has trouble explaining things and has a tendency to be wrong. The tests are ridiculous because he doesn't go over the content, but if your good at math and you practice, you'll be fine. I disliked this class so much that I just stopped going.
One of the nicest persons you can meet. If you just go to his office hours to ask him a question, he'll stop everything he's doing & will give you the most descriptive answer possible. He's a math nerd, and he can be difficult to understand sometimes. I loved listening to him talk about the origin of equations. BEST mentor ever!!!
I placed into trig, but thought I should start back in algebra for practice. This prof was the worst display of intelligence I have ever witnessed. He can not complete a single math problem with out 2-5 corrections from the students. simple addition and subtraction are serious problems for this man. You will teach yourself math or you will fail.
The worse professor on campus. I'm a math major, but he completely destroys my passion for math. He grades your hw and tests based on nothing. My friend and I did exactly the same on hw, but I ended up with an 8 whereas she ended with a 10. Totally unfair. Lectures are not helpful at all. My class only has 8 people. Do NOT take him!!
Sweet professor, however, that doesn't cut it. His lectures are unclear, most of the times it seems like he's talking to himself. You basically have to teach yourself or get a tutor. He curves, so that's why I ended up with a B and surprisingly not a C or a D. If you're really bad at math, do NOT take him, you won't learn much.
Best Professor ever, he loves his students. He really cared about his students
It's a difficult class, but he is very helpful if you take the time to go to his office hours. Explain what you don't understand, and he will be very patient! He will help you pass the class if he sees you are trying. He cares about the subject and his students.
He is a great teacher. He is very helpful. He isn't always clear , but if you ask him he makes sure you understand. Its a very easy class
A very nice guy, but honestly he is not the best teacher. His vision and hearing are awful and he takes half an hour to explain one problem. He sometimes gets problems wrong and the students have to correct him. About 2/3 of the class dropped. You basically have to teach yourself. If you're already really good at math, take him for the easy A.
Great class. The best at PCC. He is very helpful.
