very nice guy. tries to make lectures interesting and class as laid back as possible.
He's the worst teacher. You have to learn ALL of his notes for the test. The review sheet has everything in his notes. His words are complex. He doesn't know what will be on his test the day before it. His papers are very deep and it's hard to get a good grade on them. He seems cool but he's really not. Take Knapp, he's straightforward and cool.
really good teacher. humanities isnt supposed to be a cakewalk. its hard material. ive had teachers that taught the same exact class that were so hard on us you would think we were humanities majors or something. mr owens did a good job taking it easy on us. his lectures flowed together nicely, and he knew a good amount about what he was teaching.
The person that said he's a good teacher must be on some kind of drug. He does't help you in his office & his papers are way too hard. Don't study from his study guide, it lists EVERYTHING talked about in class. I don't think it should be easy but it's NOT a graduate level class. I made an A but my study guides I made were 12 pages typed each time.
Thinks that Jesus is black. Cool teacher that makes it possible to get an A if material is studied well. I would definetly recommend him to anybody. Interesting class lectures. If you take him, you will gain a wealth of knowledge.
HARD CLASS, BUT HE IS VERY INTERESTED IN WHAT HE TEACHES TO YOU.
This guy is an excellent teacher. He makes his class really easy if you study the study guide and turn your papers in on time. He gives quizzes, but you could fail them all and still get an A if you do good on the tests and papers.
Young guy. Very intellegent about his area of study. Tough class for slackers. Covers ALOT of material. Goes by the text. Not too harsh on students for sleeping, tardiness, ect.---Knows that his class is not for the faint hearted.
Wow! This guy was so interesting,a good, very easy teacher. His papers are not hard, everyone gets at least a B. His tests are so incredibly easy. Most people got every answer right. I mean, 40 of the 50 questions are no brainers. I never studied , am not good at humanities and I got As onall the tests so did my friends. This dude is cool.def takehim
HAVE to come to class, no real need for the book (unless you want some extra help), few papers that he really isn't too strict on as long as you write the required amount of length, tests are easy (just study some), & can get notes off of Blackboard. I say take him~
One of the best teachers that i have ever had. Knows what hes talking about and doesnt just read off the projector. Easy papers, and test are a breeze if you go to class, and if you dont, just get a study guide. I'm taking him again for HUM2
Hes a good teacher, and his lectures are fairly interesting, however his class is structured like crap. theres only 2 tests that cover a crap load of material, and his exam reviews arent much help. he takes off 10% of your grade if you miss more classes than allowed. dont recomend.
Awesome professor! Interesting lectures, multiple choice tests, short papers on broad topics. Young guy, intellectual and well spoken. He doesn't try to trick you, and exam isn't cumulative. Attend class, he makes it worth your time, and if you listen you won't need a textbook. If you don't attend, its all in the text, just much more reading.
He's very easy. The quiz are easy, and so are his testes, especially with the guide he gives. The only catch is you have to attend his classes. Oh yeah, and his papers are a walk in the park, blind-fold, if you have good grammar.
Very hard professor, very cocky, tries to impress the class with his vey extensive vocabulary. Hard to follow without getting sleepy. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. His study guide's are the most useless thing ive ever seen.
Incredibly articulate, even though his lectures can get dull. The tests are much easier than one might think when starting his class (majority of class makes A's & B's). 2-3 short papers. You'll learn a lot in this class.
He is the man!!! Very easy class, it seems like the tests are from common sense. Literally never studied for tests and always got at least a C. Take this class!
He ALWAYS uses big words that are hard to understand! He doesnt explain in detail what he expects of you! I dont think you should take him if you have a hard time paying attention or if you have a hard time understanding HUGE words!
This teacher is very....just there. If you have any problems with anything, he is pretty strict and doesn't bother. Not to mention he doesn't have a heart. but I mean the class was good because I love the subject.
seriously if you just go to class, listen to what he has to say... youll get a C... if you want a A/B you go online and print out the notes FROM CLASS and study a little bit and thats it... thats his class... you write a couple essays and do the tests.. overall a good teacher!
I took him for both sections got a b in both but hes soooo boaring all he does is lechture his papers are impossible quizes are ridiculous but the tests are easy. The final is going to be cumaltive starting fall 08 so beware, he makes this class way to hard its hum at tcc take someone else if u want to be interested in the least bit!
Whatever he places on his syllabus is EXACTLY the way he teaches and grades. Very straight foward. Fairly easy course.
He is so passionate about his subject. He captivated me during his lectures. He does expect a lot from his students in the four (I think...) essays he assigns and it can be brutal, but otherwise this is a really great teacher.
Owens is the best prof. at TCC. He is clear, organized, and interesting. If you are at school with the intentions of actually learning he is the man for you. He treats students like adults, which is appreciated. I LOVED his class.
Interesting Interactive Intelligence Inexplicable. You'll feel smarter as your vocabulary and knowledge expand in ways you might not have imagined.
Wonderful teacher; the notes are ppts and he posts them to blackboard. HE DOES NOT ANNOUNCES QUIZZES!!! U must come prepared, he does give the 1st quiz 1 week after classes start. He grades hard on papers. His test were very simple, just study the pictures and terms given and you will excel
great teacher! he's very easy to understand and i never even bought the book..you don't need it at all...he gives all the material in his notes. he makes it easy to learn if you just pay attention!
it wasan o0k class. you just have to pay attion and you should do fine... i took it over summer so it went fast and it wasnt that hard to remember stuff for test.. quizes r o0k just look over notes before class everyday so u know some info.
Worst teacher I have ever had! Do not take him. He is extremely vague when it comes to the material for the test...basically study everything he says. Never follows through with what he says he will do.
First off ladies he is good looking and once you hear him speak-game over you will have no problem attending his class. Just review your notes prior to class and the pop quizes are easy. Do buy book, essays-he gives redo's, and test lets say I made an A on all of them and never studied. Just reviewed my notes and attended class. Very easy A!!!
I enjoyed this class over the summer. It was not hard at all. Study the slides and you will most definitely pass the pop quizzes. He gives you a chance to correct your essays for a higher grade. His tests are based more on historic events and culture. In other words, know the slides, but pay more attention to the detailed information.
really interesting subject the way he presents it. has pop up quizzes every other day! so attendance is mandatory. study quides are literally 10 pages long. expects you to know every picture on the test nearly, without a word bank or putting up the pics on the study guide! good luck with him on essays too. isnt clear on what he wants on papers.
I'm not wild about the pop quizzes but he's a hottie and explains the material clearly :-) His tests are pretty straight forward.
Does not have a quiz "Every other day" He only gives 8 pop quizzes a semester. He speaks in a way that keeps you interested but he is a bit monotone. I am really bad with attendance... I never missed a single lecture of his because he keeps you interested. He is very critical when it comes to grading your essay but he gives you a chance to fix it.
He is a great prof! The class is ridiculously easy. He gives you 8 pop quizzes over the course of the semester, but thats the worst part. His tests are very easy, even though he gives you study guides that will scare you. He is very helpful and I enjoyed his class.
This teacher is very helpful and his test are so easy and straight forward. If you go to class you shouls ACE all the exams. He has quizzes but their easy. This is a great professor make him one of yur choices to take humainties.
great teacher give 8 pop quizes and 3 essays he give you a chance to redo them im taking for hime hummanties 2
I rated this prof before taking his class, he had good ratings so i chose him. Hardest teacher ive had yet, his pop quizes are hard. And his text are harder. He only has 2 test all semester so if you do bad on one then you do bad all semester. Only teaches from slides, miss class and your screwed.
Enjoyed Mr Owens in Humanities 1 thats why i took him for humanities 2 he is a easy teacher but grades essays very hard but a very likeable guy i say take him
Awesome teacher, seriously. This is the one class I look forward to attending. I learn lots everyday in his class. He is very clear. He puts the stuff for quizzes to study. His tests aren't THAT bad, if you just come to class and listen you'll make a B.. study some & you'll ace it. He dislikes it when you're late. He KNOWS his****, I love his clas
He is a great teacher! Knows his stuff. Attendance is mandatory, has pop quizes but he makes the material very interesting!
Great teacher! Loves humanities! There are 3 essays, and he allows revision for a higher grade. It's a lot of information, just memorization. I love art and sculpture so it was very interesting to learn! Lots of pop quizzes, about 8. Fairly easy. Attendance Mandatory, he knows when you leave early or come in late!! I got a B.
Ownes was one of my FAVORITE professors! He explained everything we needed to do in detail, and he always answered any questions. He had three tests, which were only based off readings we covered in class. He did have pop quizzes, but they were easy if you read what he told you too. We also had journals about the readings due every couple of weeks.
MR. OWENS IS A GOOD TEACHER. AS LONG AS YOU COME TO CLASS, PAY ATTENTION AND STUDY A LITTLE YOU WILL BE FINE. HE IS STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. WHATEVER IS IN HIS SYLLABUS IS WHAT GOES. LOOKING FOWARD TO TAKING HIM FOR HUM 2.
Good Professor. Made lectures interesting. Tests were all multiple choice and all content was covered on tests were covered in class.
His test were easy because of his lectures and he gave you a study guide. Only hard part was the pop quizzes if you didn't go over your notes.
Very boring class, he just reads the text out loud even though you have to read it before class because he likes pop quizzes. Test are pretty easy if you do well on quizzes and journals.
I took his class at 8am. I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON so I missed alot of classes. He gives 5 point quizzes the first 10 mins of class:( I met up w/ him during office hours and he goes over whats discussed in class. His test are multiple choice and gives the review way ahead of time. Go to class and review youll be fine.
Overall, pretty good teacher. Gives attendance quizzes, so it's in your best interest to come to class. He lectures for the entire class, but never tests you on anything he doesn't teach. Review sheets are given before each test and are very helpful!
Humanities II - easy class if you attend. He takes attendance and you will have about 7 in class 5 question quizes. Nothing too challanging. You have 3 essays. He gives you a chance to revise them after he returns them for more points. You don't need the book. Final is not cumlative. His teaching makes the class interesting!
this teacher lectures for the whole hour and fifteen minutes. Very boarring, uses huge words that are hard to understand, and he's the hardest grader when it comes to your essays. Also be ready to take about 4 pages of notes every class. He's not impossible but he treats this class like its a 4000 level course.
He is a great professor and has an interesting class! He really knows his material and likes teaching! He uses big words but any of us with half a brain knows what he is talking about! He is crystal clear and tests are straight to the point. He deserves a raise!
I am a regular student, but I know to recognize a great teacher, he prepared and knows his material he present his with knowledge and enthusiasm. Get at class on time and be prepared for pop quizzes after he end a chapter, give on time the essays and if you don't get a good grade is just because you didn't do you work.
8 random pop quizzes(5 pts each), 4 tests including final(has study guides), and 3 essays(40pts each) for the year. Books not mandatory, and he uses blackboard very well. He shows a genuine interest in the humanities and it shows. Lectures are very detailed so I'd recommend a good attendance.
really good teacher, he really seems like he enjoys what hes doing. really cool though
If you go to class, take notes, and do the study guide you will pass. Be prepared for pop quizzes, if you pay attention they are easy. Very interesting class, but he lectures the ENTIRE time. He does NOT post the notes, which are def the best way to complete the SG so you must come to class. The book helps but if its all you depend on you wont pass
I loved the class...the best teacher ever!!!!!!!!!!! Take him...you wont regret it...
great teacher! makes topics intresting, but be aware that he is a hard grader with the essays (3 total first 2 are eligible for resubmission)and there are a total of 3 exams all multiple choice. overall i would highly recommended him. one of my favorite teaschers here @ tcc :)
There are 8 pop quizzes that cant be made up. There are 3 mandatory essay's that you must get atleast a %70 on to pass(the first 2 can be revised and resubmitted for a better grade). 3 exams including the final. Unfortunately the study guides have no organization to them and are very broad in subject. Must show up to class. Tough grader.
intresting class 3 exams and 3 essays dont waste money on the text just show up and take notes and you will be fine but be aware that he is an extremely hard grader when it,comes to the essays ( the 1st 2 are eligible for resubmission)
i loved being in his class the tests were easy and so were the journals. Make sure you come to class because it helps on the tests and he also does pop quizzes so make sure you read. Over all one of my favorite teachers I RECOMMEND!!!
Taking world lit with Dr. Owens was a genuine pleasure on a day to day basis. Be sure to keep up with the reading because he regularly pop quizzes his students( about one a week) Insightful, well read, and regularly excited for his job are legitimate ways to describe Dr. Owens. The best part about his class is you can write about nearly anything.
Favorite Teacher of all time. This class was two parts: one semester on campus studying as much art as we could fit in, and three weeks in May traveling Europe to find the artwork in various museums and galleries. Dr. Owens' class requires a lot of study time, but you develop a much greater appreciation for art and culture. I'd take it again!!!
Dr. Owens super smart prof. His lectures are the best. He posts all images that you will need via blackboard. His tests are 50 questions multiple choice. Test #1 all I did was show up and listen to the lectures (front row and I mean I really listened) made a 76 on the first test with 0 study time invested. 3 mandatory essays these are tuff but fun
AMAZING professor. Took him for 8 AM MWF classes and he makes everything so interesting and you can tell he knows his stuff! Just show up to class, take good notes, study, and you should be good!
Dr. Owens was awesome. Super great lecturer made all the information very easy to understand and made me want to come to class. 3 tests and 3 papers make up most of the grade . Papers are mostly opinion papers and test are relatively easy.
OMG he was so awesome. I truly learned so much. The class is very exciting and fun. He gives 8 pop quiz, 3 essays and 3 test. I took the express class this summer and received an A. He is not very easy but if you come to class and complete the study guides you will be fine. I recommend him to anyone who really wants to learn and earn the grade.
Very Hard, unless you really really really like the stories. All of his tests, and quizzes are short answered with two essays for each test. None are multiple choice. He's a very tough grader on journals too. If he doesn't agree with your opinion on your journals he will deduct points. I took his class based on the ratings, and now I regret it
Great teacher, he is very clear about dates of tests and exams and gives you an option if you want to turn your essay in early for a chance to resubmit it or wait 2 weeks to turn it in. One of my personal favorite teachers!
Dr. Owens Frederick was an amazing professor in my opinion. He just lectures on the material and tests you on it. There are a few pop- quizzes, but after the first one everything is easy. I never used my textbook and I received a 98% on the first test. Just show up, take notes, and you should be fine. I wish you the best of luck.
Dr. Owens is one of the most informative and engaging professors I've had at TCC; he is also incredibly friendly and understanding. Just show up to class everyday and take good notes, and making an 'A' in his class won't be a problem. Highly, highly recommend!
Great guy! He cares deeply about students and is very clear about all material. I highly recommend keeping a good attendance record since he does cover a lot of material. No textbook required! 55 stars!
One of the best professors I have at TCC!
I took Professor Owens for two classes, and both were two of the best decisions I made. While he's a tough grader, he explains everything incredibly well, and answers whatever questions you have thoroughly. I recommend you take him for humanities, you won't regret it. His american lit class is also really interesting.
Frederick Owens is easily the best professor I've ever had! He explains everything very thoroughly and will answer any questions given! He makes the lectures interesting and he's very passionate about what he teaches. Great guy!
Excellent Professor who knows his stuff. Class is not difficult just listen and take notes attentively and you will pass with an A for sure. Study Guides are gold for the tests!
He is a great professor, who is very passionate about his work & students. As long as you go to class and read the stories, you'll get an easy A!
Professor Owens is probably my favorite professor! He is so passionate about what he teaches and it makes the information much easier to learn! Definitely a great class.
I took Professor Owens for both HUM1&2 and I thoroughly enjoyed the classes. He's so passionate about what he does, if you go to his office hours (which many don't take advantage of) he will tell you exactly what you need to study for and he's very straightforward on assignments. Received an 'A' in both class and I would definitely recommend him!
Hands down the best professor! You can tell that he really knows his stuff so when he explains it, its not difficult to understand. You do have to come to class everyday because he goes over a lot but that shouldnt be a problem. I definitely recommend him, you wont regret it at all
started off not liking him, but after a few weeks his voice became a little less awkward. take notes because they are what you have to study off of, and STUDY. i did not study and could have gotten a better grade if i had. would take him again, but this time i would study.
He is very organized and great at responding to emails. He is also good about helping you keep a good pace with assignments because he would always email at least once a week with things that would be coming up. The hardest part was the exams. Make sure to really study every part of his power points. He did give extra credit and curved the exams.
He asks basic question and expects you to respond with a complex answer that's really not needed. You can respond with a correct answer and he'll mark it wrong if it's not fully detailed. Only thing good about the class is you DONT need a textbook.
Takes forever to grade turned in work. Responds to email slow. The work is outlined in the syllabus well. I didn't like how he graded. Will avoid in the future.
I took Humanities online with him. He doesn't use a textbook, but records all his lectures over powerpoints. He is EXTREMELY detailed. Most of your grade is 2 essays and 3 exams. Takes a long time to grade and respond to emails. He expects you to be very thorough when writing. I'd take him again, because he's interesting. Not an easy A.
Very passionate about his class. Go to class and you'll pass the class. 8 pop quizzes, easy though. No textbook so unless you go to class, you won't learn the material. 3 tests. 2 papers. 8 pop quizzes. That's it. He's super nice and lectures in a way and tone that is pleasant. I got a 92. 10/10 would take again. HUM2020
A few essays, several tests, discussion questions and some quizzes. He gives amazing lectures on his powerpoints but there is a lot of info. Tough class so make sure you know your eras of music, art, and theatre. Lots of identification questions matching images and videos to eras. Interesting class but difficult.
I took Humanities online with professor Owens and I enjoyed the slides that he provided through the course. He is highly knowledgeable in this study and provides as much information he can in each module. Quizzes are easy as well as discussions. You HAVE to study the slides AND notes in order to pass Exams. Not great at communicating.
Professor Owens is a great and is very passionate about humanities. I took HUM2020 and passed with an A. My advice? Take notes , attend class. Review you notes as much as possible too BC he gives pop quizzes. Also for the writing assignments make sure to have him proofread your assignment before turning it in it really helped me out.
Phenomenal PowerPoint presentations made his online course absolutely enjoyable. Very engaged with the students. Professor Owens is the best!
Very easy class
He is a very nice professor and made a subject that I didnt think I would enjoy more interesting. He does give pop quizzes but theyre easy and prepare you for the next test. You dont need to buy a textbook, and we only had 3 tests and 3 essays to do along with 8 pop quizzes.
Professor Owens class is one of the best classes ive taken. There are 8 pop quizzes 2 essays and 3 tests. You must go to his lectures or at least have someone to get notes from. He is so passionate about humanities and its very clear to see that in his lectures. Such a nice dude
overall if you read the articles he give you you will pass he gives extra credit just be ready to read
He grades way too hard on essays. 1st essay received good comments that it was sound, then decided to say I need to organize better and gives me a 70. 2nd essay he took two weeks to grade it- and waited to make us turn in extra credit and still kept me 1 point from a B. No comments on the second essay-not sure he even read it.
Tests are pretty hard. If you don't keep up with the readings and create your study guide for the tests and truly study it hard, you won't pass. Tough grader on discussions and papers too. Work hard 100% of the course like there is no room to slack off.
I took him for online humanities. He gave huge amounts of notes, which isn't the worst, but its a lot of material to cover to be ready for his tests, which are difficult. I have emailed him twice this semester, and both times he took at least 5 days to respond.
Professor Owens is very straightforward in what he expects in the course. In this world literature course he expected you to read the stories. In class he went over key parts of the stories and gave us the analysis of them. If you show up to class regularly and listen to his analysis, the tests are a breeze.
Mr. Owens was an odd professor. He speaks very proper and uses top-quality grammar. Lectures were boring! If you want to pass this class, I advise you to attend each and every single class and take down notes of every single slide. He provides chapter reviews which was a relief but study hard for those tests. Questions are also hard to understand.
Professor Owens is really nice but his lectures can be hard to understand and hard to follow. The tests are very hard. He grades slow and is bad at answering emails. Definitely not the worst professor Ive ever had but not the best either. Wouldnt recommend unless you are going in already knowing a ton about humanities.
Took the class online. The verbal powerpoints are so boring. I couldn't stay awake or I would have to listen more than once because I couldn't stay focused. Rude when asked for assistance. Ended up dropping class. took class again under a different professor and it is so much easier and professional
prof Owens made this class easy to comprehend. Quizzes arent hard just make sure you take accurate notes. He also gives you study guides
Mr. Owens was great. I really liked his class. I would take him again if I could.
Real easy class that actually makes you learn without overwhelming you with work. Would take again.
Very nice and amazing professor, enjoyed his class very much.
Gives you either a written discussion or a 10 question quiz every week and every couple of weeks gives open note tests. so easy to pass if you use notes and he is easy to access outside of school. I recommend him to everyone! Humanities is written off as such a hard class but his was so easy. (took him completely online)
This was probably my favorite class so far, although I loved ENC1102. Dr. Owens gives incredible lectures and his enthusiasm about the pieces is contagious. I found myself reading ahead and wanting to know more about each piece! If you show up to class and listen, you will pass this class. He makes everything so interesting and the class flies by.
I'm taking him right now and he is by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is clearly passionate about the subject matter and gives a great analysis of the texts as we read and is more than happy to engage in class discussions as we go over it. Assignments are not difficult and so long as you show up and pay attention you will be fine.
You can tell that he loves what he does, he's always smiling and he really cares for his students, I wish he taught all my classes. He also has a very soothing voice.
Mr. Frederick gave me the easiest class that I have ever taken. All you need to do is show up and listen to him talk like a movie of some sort. Even if you dont show up its very hard to fail as all the tests and quizzes are open note and he puts up the powerpoints and notes on canvas. Only missed about one question all semester.
Does not answer emails right away or during normal business hours, so don't expect to be able to access him for emergencies. Extremely wordy and uses repetitive language with many typos. Don't trust his review sheets, as they don't always highlight everything you will be tested on. Get ready for heavily western centric humanities.
Easy class if you go through the PowerPoint lecture and document to describe the PP slides. There aren't many assignments, so one bad grade can pull you down quickly.
Honestly he was horrible because after assigning like 1 assignment a week he took a month to grade them and roughly. Barely understood what I was doing nothing was explained he literally just graded assignments and barely that.
I'm currently taking his class online, and I think it's good. He posts word documents and PowerPoint slides every chapter, then he'll assign a quiz or discussion post every one or two weeks. The unit tests and quizzes are pretty easy as long as u study the material from the word document and PP slides. No other homework besides discussion posts.
Gotta read material throughly to pass
Professors Owens has great charisma. He is easy to understand and it seems he has a lot of passion for what he does. The only problem with this class is that the only grades are tests, quizzes, and a few discussion boards. If you try hard and pay attention during lecture (which can be hard sometimes) you can pass this class easily.
Grading scale is absolutely unclear and frustrating. Assignments don't open until two day before due. Readings are boring and monotone. If you disagree with his interpretations, you'll likely get points off. This class is essentially menial labor. Don't expect to get grades back within the month, either.
His class requires a lot of reading but if you pace yourself accurately and really pay attention you can get it done. He is a very tough grader so it can be hard to adjust to what he expects from you in your analysis of the text.
Genuinely the most unfair professor I have ever had. Takes weeks to respond to emails, weeks to grade anything, and will blame you for anything you have concerns about. Don't try to reach out explaining any personal situations for any kind of grace, he does not care at all. One of the easiest classes ever but due to his grading it didn't matter.
Professor Owens is a passionate instructor who makes the course material fascinating. Staying engaged and using resources like unstuck study for study prep can help navigate the challenging grading. Overall, a rewarding experience.
Professor Owens clearly cares about his job and what he's teaching. He sets clear expectations for assignments, so don't turn in any B.S,you can't rerock him. I just wish he were more responsive, because he takes forever to reply to emails. Other than that, he's ok.
Professor Owens has a passion for what he teaches, and that shows when he teaches and grades his assignments. He is very kind, and his exams and quizzes are simple if you pay attention and do the work! You're guaranteed an A in this class! Don't hesitate to take his class; he was awesome.
Best professor I have ever had. Absolutely love the way he puts so much passion and care into every lecture he teaches. Truly the best learning experience I have ever had.
