Very interesting instructor with a wide knowledge of the subject matter. My only critisisms are that he refuses to cover conflic/radical analysis and criminal psychology. He refused to discuss analysis of mass/serial murder because of it's rarity.

Very good teacher. I loved his class. He is a funny man. You do take alot of notes and make sure you read the book. I took him in Summer 2003 with my sister. My sister enjoyed it so much she changed her Major to sociology.

Yes, I am very aware of the annoying kid up front!! Roth is a cool prof. You have to read the book if you wish to do well. About 25% of test material is from his lectures. He is very loud and very energetic, so it is impossible to fall asleep in his class

He's the kind of man who laughs maniacally at his own jokes, even though no one else wants to. He is also the embodiment of Click and Clack from NPR's Car Talk. If you can get past that, he's pretty good.

I feel that professor Roth is one of the most interesting teachers I have ever had the priviledge of learning under! He has great enthusiasim and makes the class a joy to be in. I feel that it is a class I will attend every day.

The book itself is very interesting, but, the course material is somewhat boring. DR. Roth does an excellent job communicating the course material. A well motivated, and passionate speaker. Easy A if you are willing to put forth the effort. Be prepared to stand on your own merit in his class.

Cool, funny and you'll learn new Yankee words like "hoosegow." Lots of interesting stories. The tests are HARD, but if you bomb a test you can redeem yourself with the 2 papers you have to write. The big paper is worth 40% of your grade, only 8 pages so don't let it scare you. It's not so bad.

Being a CJ major that had already taken Theoretical Criminology the prior semester, this class was not that difficult for me. With the exception to the final, about 10 - 15% of tests are from the book and they're pretty easy questions if you've taken CJ courses. Highly recommend this class and Dr. Roth makes the 2.5 hours go by in no time!

Loved him! Very funny and understanding. He takes attendance but it isn't apart of your grade. Just something he does incase you're on the border between two letter grades. Take him if you ever get the chance. Plus, his accent is very hott.

I read the ratings for him and took the class. I wish that I would have done otherwise. It was a complete nightmare, the essays were nearly impossible to get all the credit for and it was the longest hour and fifteen minutes of my life. I would most definitely not recommend him to anyone.

Kept the class entertained. Tests and essays are difficult. The project he requires can be difficult. Doesn't lecture from the book but requires you to read certain chapters. Tests come from his lecture and the chapters he assigns. Tests always have an essay part.

Dr.Roth is a traditionalist, serious professor. His lectures don't have powerpoints. His material is incredibly insightful, carefully selected, and well researched. He has an interesting personality, and a good sense of humor - doesn't take himself too seriously. This professor is an excellent choice for a serious sociology student.

Not so hard if you pay attention. He's a no nonsense, no BS professor. Good sense of humor. If you don't want him to believe you're a fool, then think before you speak. And for goodness sakes, learn how to spell and put a sentence together when you write your papers. He's a stickler for grammer and structure.

One of the greatest professors. He does make fun of you but thats the real world. I was surprised to find he was married because his students seem to be his world. He thinks he has to be tough acting (He is male). Yet I like him better when he is charming and smiles.

Criminology. Roth is one of a kind. Dont buy the textbook, as with all of Roths classes, its worthless. I also had him for deviance, and that class is all theory. Criminology has 3-4 weeks on theory, which is the worse part of class. Show up to class, talk to him and get an easy B. Worth taking to see his style of Jersey/Loudness!

At first I did not think I was going to like him but after the first week I realized I really did! He is not hard at all the only thing I did not like was you had to write a lot. Professor Roth is great! The first day of class was intimidating when he told us about the 8 page final paper, but if you can write clearly and on-subject then you are pretty much guaranteed a B. He is hilarious in class, doesn't teach from the book often, so it is always entertaining. Very helpful if you talk to him!

His lectures are fairly interesting and he loves to go off on tangents. He appreciates discussion and looks for students who care. He grades the essays harshly (somewhat), but if you put in the effort, you can get a B. If you know the material from lecture and text, your tests should be A's or B's. Dr. Roth is funny and makes the information in the class interesting. There are no exams, only quizzes and 5 5-page papers. You will have to read outside materials and write papers on them, but most of the time they are actually pretty interesting. I probably won't take another sociology class, but I'd take Dr. Roth again if I did.

I love Dr. Roth! I loved attending his class because he presented the material in a way that was fun, but also informative. He grades the essays pretty harshly, but I found his feedback helpful. Dr. Fredrick Roth is a very fun professor to have, his class is very lecture heavy and you absolutely have to be in class to pass the test because all through out the semester you only have. 1. a 500 paragraph essay due. 2. Some tests. 3. 8- page research paper due at the end of the semester. There is absolutely no homework. Beware. Awesome class.

Dr. Roth's class is not difficult as long as you show up to class. You have few assignments, but the ones assigned are not difficult as long as you pay attention to his lectures. He lectures in a way that is entertaining and intriguing.

I liked Professor Roth. He was quirky and tried to make the class light hearted, even though his jokes were a little weird/inappropriate at times. Most of the grade comes from papers you write on books. Come prepared to read and write. However, if you're good at writing and have a basic reading comprehension level, you'll do fine (A or B)
