He always get straight to business and knows too much of biology. There is nothing easy about his exams, even though he gives you objectives. If you are going to take his class, beware to work extra hard and oh do that objectives.

This is one of the best teachers I have EVER had. Hard exams (I am a good student and got a B on all 10 exams I took with him), but he is very passionate and interesting. Another plus is INSTANT TEST GRADES! Awesome guy :)

Class overall was interesting. He encourages class participation and wants you to learn the material. The only way to get everything for the test is to show up for class. The tests are difficult but he pretty much lets you know whats gonna be on it.

Don't belive the other posts about Prof. Terranova. Study the objectives he gives you and you will do well on the tests. They only cover the objectives. He also always makes sure everyone understands and encourages people to ask questions. He doesn't give make ups, but he drops the lowest test grade. Just make sure you go to class, it really helps.

Terranova is awesome. He's a fun guy that's enthusiastic about Biology and always gives you the oppurtunity to ask questions. one of my top 3 teachers ever. Relatively entertaining and attention getting. His notes and explanations are really easy to understand and remember to get an easy A on exams.

I only had him for lab, not lecture. He seemed nice enough, but also seemed to be perpetually annoyed at the students for not fully understanding what was going on in the lab. This was the first lab for most of us, so that's probably a valid feeling, but it made him seem a bit prickly and unapproachable. Not bad to look at, though.

Professor Terranova is the best. I had him for BIO101 and took him again for BIO102. He's intelligent, very clear in what he is talking about, and always answers questions thoroughly. I highly recommend him for anyone who is taking biology.

If you've got the attention span , Fred is brilliant - he truly loves Bio and explores every last sentence of the material, no holds barred. Keep an open mind at times tho, he can drone every now and then. As a person, he's pretty cool too. Sort of spacey, but very friendly and polite.

I had no interest in BIO before, and now am a BIO major. Powerpoints available on his website. Take advantage of them. Print them out before class, then add notes to them during lecture, it makes studying very easy. He is very helpful and makes it known that if you need help he is there for you. Also gives as much time needed to complete tests!

I had Professor Terranova for the summer semester. He is a very sincere and helpful professor. I found his objectives to be extremely easy to follow. If you go to class and study the objectives you should have no problem recieving an A in his course. His tests are straight-forward and come completely from the objectives. I highly recommend him.

He is great as far as explaining the material, especially after you've done the Objectives (which he takes questions that he uses on the exam) before class...everything comes together. its not 'hard' persay, IF you are doing your job as a student (coming to class, doing the objectives, skimming through the book). I had Mr. terranova for both bio 101 and102, and by far he has to be one of my favortie professors of all time. I was already interested in biology before i took the class, but just seeing how passionate he is one the suject gets me even more interested. I recommend him for everyone who has to take biology whether your interested or not.

I have him for the first Environmental Survey course, and he makes it very interesting. I am more interested in the environmental science part of it, personally, and I can tell it's hard for Fred to stay away from being too scientific in the course. I'd like to take him for a Bio course soon! Good professor, very smart.

Terranova is not hard, but he does make you work for your grade. All his exam Qs are answers from the objectives, so no surprises, and his powerpoints are online for your convenience. IT IS A LOT TO CRAM IN ONE NIGHT, so if you do not keep up with it, it WILL be difficult then. He is fabulous and passionate. I got a D because I didn't apply myself.

Pretty much the best Biology professor known to man. His lectures are entertaining, fun, and useful. He hands out objectives which are pretty much the exams. So if you do those before lecture and exams you'll do well. I failed AP bio in HS and now I'm doing well in his class because he makes bio interesting. This guy is LEGIT. Just do your work.

The class was hard, but im not interested in bio so that was to be expected. Got a B. Hes easy to talk to and very understanding. All he wants is for people to participate in class and not be rude (ie using cell phones, reading for other classes etc). Says attendance isnt mandatory since he only wants people there who want to be there. Great guy!

Best profesor i;ve had in the two years i was at NOVA. I hated biology and he made me understand it! You have to try..i was expecting a c and i got a A because hes that goodof a teacher and very enthusiastic about the subject. You will learn and earn ur grade!

This was a necessary prereq I took in the 1st 6 wk summer session of '08. I am not a strong science student. Fred gives you all of the information you need in his slides (the book is unnecessary). If you go to class, take notes, read his slides and do the objectives you'll have no problem earning an A.

He is the best science teacher I had in my entire life. He is so helpful and basically gives clues in what to do on the exams. Will answer every question you have about BIO. And very hot for a professor.

One of the very best professors that I can remember. 5 exams, drop the lowest of the first 4. All lecture notes online, and hands out all exam objectives in the beginning of the semester. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you go to every class you will get the material easily. Answers all questions thoroughly, beyond helpful. Hilarious as well.

Great teacher! i had glick for 101 and he was really helpful too, but his tests were really hard, ended up with a B. But Terranova's tests are a little easier because you get to pick the short answer questions. and his lectures are a little more interesting compared to glick. both are good teachers. attendance is madatory for both!

You have to start studying for his tests a few days before, if you start the day before, it won't help, even if it was for 10 hours. but great teacher, lectures could get long but he tries to keep people entertained by his drawings :) make sure your cell phone is OFF or else you have to leave. only 5 tests in the semester and 1 gets dropped.

Probably the best professor I have ever had and I've been taking courses on and off for over 20 years. He loves what he's teaching and makes the concepts crystal clear as long as you're paying attention. If you do your homework and know the objectives he gives, you will get an A. Very interesting class. He makes the topics fun to learn and bases his teaching on understanding the material rather than memorization. Complete the objectives beforehand because he expands on the material in class and draws pictures to help students grasp the information. I highly recommend this teacher for lecture and for the lab as well.

He is a super easy and really down to earth professor. I didn't even buy the book and I got an A on every exam. Just download his powerpoints and answer the objectives with them. There is only 5 exams and one is dropped. He is really nice but make sure you sign up early because his classes fill up quickly, especially the lab.

Funny, nice professor and also really cool. He basically gives you the questions (objectives) and answers (powerpoints) to every exam beforehand. Just study the day before and get an A. Make sure you memorize the short answer question and write it first on exam day. Attendance doesn't matter. I missed 6 classes, still got an A.

honestly best teacher I've ever had. He'll stop after every powerpoint slide and wait for a good chunk of time to answer any questions. Obviously loves what he does, I'd recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat

I only had him as a lab instructor, but I found him to be really helpful. He did expect students to be well prepared and would dismiss a student if he noticed they had problems with coming to class prepared. Just show up prepared for lab and you will be fine. Overall, I'm glad I had him as a Lab Professor.

Don't listen to those recent views on Professor Terranova. He's honestly everything you can ask for in a biology professor. He tries to put himself in the student shoes and lectures from there. His tests are straightforward and a directly from the ppoint slides. Just memorize and put some time into it and you'll pass easily.

Definitely take Terranova his lectures are very clear and concise. The whole semester I used the text book only once because the slides cover everything perfectly. Presents information well during class and is interesting to listen to easy A if you go to class and take time to study

I can't believe people say he is not easy. He is the best instructor I ever had in my life. He's perfect in every way you look at his teaching skills. You just need to turn off your cellphone and listen to him during his lectures. Then, study his Presentations and objectives(Only) and you will receive an easy A.

He is a great teacher. I received a very high A in his class. He makes it crystal clear exactly what to study to get a 100. Drops lowest of five exam scores. All that is necessary is studying the objectives right from his power point and attendance to lectures. I never once used the textbook. 3 extra credit questions on each exam. Must Study For A.

Great professor knows how to teach the subject of biology better than anyone I have had in the past. Put the objectives on note cards it REALLY helps

He is definitely not for everyone - he does not tolerate tardiness, electronic device use, sleeping/talking in class. With that said, the entire classroom is focused on the lecture, which makes it easy to learn. Powerpoint presentations are crystal clear, and he does not rush. 5 exams, drops the lowest score. They are easy IF YOU STUDY FOR THEM.

I had him for lecture, not lab... great class! His power points are very detailed and that's helpful when studying for tests. You can tell he really enjoys teaching. Tests are multiple choice and he tells us what the short answer questions are before. DON'T BE LATE, THOUGH! He's nice, but he really hates when people arrive late or interrupt him.

Terranova is only easy if you study the objectives and answer them fully, I had him for BIO 102 and could have gotten an A, but I was pretty lazy in his class. He is very helpful and all his examples help for the tests, be warned he does not like talking and hates if you don't pay attention. If you do not pay attention, don't bother showing up.

Best teacher at NOVA! I had him for 101 and got an A easy. I didn't get an A in 102 and honestly it was because I missed a few two many labs being stupid. His test are easy if you study the power points which are perfect. My class asked questions and if we stumped him he would write it down and next class tell us what he found every time.

Great professor. everything is kept on subject. hates distractions i.e. walking in and out of the classroom. actually asked someone not to come back after they left. no homework. but tests can be challenging. his notes match what is on test. come to class and pay attention and you will get the grade you want.

TERRANOVA IS A GREAT professor he gives you the test questions for all tests at the beginning of the year the only problem is that you must know the material front to back before you take one of his tests or you wont pass. If you understand the objectives then you will pass the class dont miss classes he goes over objectives for tests every class.

He gives you a handout with course objectives broken down by chapter for you to do and use to study for his five tests (the lowest one drops!!). That packet was my LIFE! Good teacher to take. There are 5 tests, the lowest one gets dropped. Everything that the professor covers in class will be on the test. At the beginning of the semester you will receive an objectives packet if you can answer the objectives you will pass the test but it takes work.

I am a person who HATES biology, but this professor makes me want to be a bio major!! I had a bio teacher in the fall 2014 and dropped her, then read some reviews and took him in the spring for 101, now I take him for 102, I get A's on my exams, just study with the objectives and ask questions! Terranova is the man.. going into bio 101 i had almost no prior knowledge on the subject and was pretty scared, but Terranova made it so simple. Excellent lectures - He is very clear and the class is fairly easy. His lecture notes are the test questions. He states that you need to show up to class (I would not recommend skipping classes often), but if you miss a few classes here and there, not a big deal. I took him last summer for a 6 weeks class. I had 0 biology knowledge prior to his class and was able to get a B. He really tries to help you learn during his lectures. He has clear outlined for his test. To be successful in his class you must study and if you really want to understand read the chapter prior to class. I highly recommend this class.

There are a lot of great qualities I could mention about Professor Terranova, but his best asset as a teacher is his desire to provide his students with an environment where they will actually learn the material. He will make sure that his classrooms are free of distraction and he fills the time with meaningful, pertinent information.

A great prof. I took him for 101 and 102. His lectures are great. All you have to do is pay attention. His tests come directly from his course objectives, like word for word, so you know exactly what you need to study. He doesn't try to trick you he just wants you to work hard for a good grade.

Awesome teacher. I took him for both best decision of my life. I am not a fan of biology but I did learn a lot in this course. His lectures are very clear and easy to understand. His grading is extremely fair. All you have to do is do the outlines come to class, study and you will succeed. Make sure to study for exams, if you don't you will fail.

Great teacher! Course is dense and there is a lot of readings, but if you watch the videos and study, you will pass. It is not an easy class but he gives good lectures. he is very responsive to emails and questions. I wished I had him on Bio101. If you can choose, do not take the hybrid class because his lectures are very interesting.

FT is an awesome teacher. His use of objectives makes it really easy to know what you need to focus your attention towards. Pay attention in lecture, but more than anything, just READ. Everything is in the textbook and powerpoints. Only downside was that I took an 8am class and he was awfully perky at that hour.

I had him for my BIO 101 Lab. He is a nice teacher, but be ready to be treated like a kid during his labs. Other than that, you have to show up every week, otherwise you won't get all the points. Over all nice professor

Prof. Terranova is a great teacher who truly cares about his students and has a passion for Biology. The class I took with him was a 5wk hybrid Summer session, but was very well structured with excellent study materials and clear expectations. Not a science major, but pulling off an A was easily doable with some effort and following instructions.

PT is one of the gems of NOVA. He really knows how to teach biology to anybody by making the complex simple. His objectives are very straightforward, and the low stress of knowing exactly what will be on the exam helps with learning. His powerpoints and lectures contain everything you need to get an A on the tests, of which he drops the lowest one.

Terranova is THE BEST professor I have ever had at NOVA. I took the hybrid option - once/wk in-person lecture and online material. He records short video lectures so that the objectives learned online are easy and straight-forward. Wish I took Terranova for lecture too, he's amazing. Labs are fun and easy to understand and he's very cool and caring. All assignments and labs are very clear. Just make sure you're doing the assignments and reading what he assigns out of class. Will get an A if you do everything he tells you too which is very doable. Highly recommend.

Like so many reviews say, he's SO good at explaining even difficult concepts and has such an enthusiasm for the subject. As someone who actually likes bio, I've genuinely enjoyed at least the overwhelming majority of his lectures. As for exams, he tells you exactly what you need to know on the objectives and if you understand them you're set.

very respectful, responds to emails quick. I got an A and I am not that smart or any of that. Just do the objectives as all the questions on the exam comes from it. only extra credit is on the exam, about 2-3 questions. Exams all multiple choice. Study his powerpoints and objectives and you're guaranteed an A. Some objectives are only discussed in class so going to class is a good idea if you're serious about getting an A. Overall grade is made up by just 5 unit tests. Really great professor.

Only 4 exams and they has soo easy. He drops the lowest one. He gives an objective sheets with questions that are on the exam. If you know all the answers to the objective questions, you should get 100% on the text. Its the exact questions and he even gives you the short answer and extra credit questions. easiest A and you will learn.

Professor Terranova is a great professor. Biology is not my favorite subject but he makes it bearable. There are 5 exams throughout the semester, only 4 count for your grade (1 can be dropped). He's definitely the professor to take if you're really into biology and plan on pursuing that field. If you're not then who cares cause he's one of best.

Frederick Terranova is an excellent professor. He and his multicolored beard strive to help all of his students reach their fullest potential. If you love bio take him he is very engaging; if you don't still take him as he explains the material well.

Terranova is amazing!!! Knows his stuff and is cool. If you love biology I would highly recommend taking him, he has lots of knowledge to share. If you hate BIO I would think about it. He can sometimes be discouraging if you get something wrong or don't follow directions to the T. Other than that he's great and super helpful!

He is a very intelligent professor and in order to get an A in his class you just have to know the answers to questions he gives on a sheet. If you know the answers to these questions, then you're good for the test. This means you do have to study and ready all the questions. Responds to emails right away, and he is very very fair.

Professor Terranova replies fast to emails. Show up to labs and work maturely and you will pass. It is imperative that you listen to him. He doesn't make labs hard.

This prof is AMAZING all you have to do is the objectives which are optional hw's and you will be prepared for test it is exactly the same. So i did not buy a textbook, but I did take the class online due to covid 19. He answers emails very quickly and he is organized I actually learned bio from him. Excellent professor!!! 5 exams, but he throws out the lowest grade. To be successful, complete the Study Objectives (homework) for each chapter; it's ur study guide. Caution: know the material thoroughly. The timed exams have several questions leaving little time to think about the answer. Example: 50 minutes to answer 75 (T/F) questions.

Professor Terranova is hands down one of the best instructors I've ever had. He puts so much thought and effort into the material that's literally designed for you to pass. Just show up, listen, answer the objectives and you'll be golden. Truly a gem of a man.

Prof. Terranova has been one of my favorites! He does an amazing job making the lectures very engaging. He is very good about sending reminder emails, so its hard to forget things. He also responds to student emails very quickly. However, the only grades in lecture are 5 tests. He does drop your lowest test score.

He's a decent Professor, you didn't really need to go on his zoom calls because he had most objectives recorded and labed for you to watch from. My only real complaint is the test was worded very weird and the time 80-90 questions and a couple of extra credit too for only an hour of time, so you had to go fast. No lockdown browser.

Professor Terranova was so amazing with lectures and you will learn a lot through them. He is also really good with his explanations and makes sure that you understand the material thoroughly as well. There are five exams but the only thing that you need to do is study all the objectives which are your study guides really well to prepare.

Dont get me wrong hes very nice and energetic but it can get a little bit annoying sometimes. For grades and assignments you only have 5 exams in there so you need to do well on those or you might not get the credit. I wish he had homework or something graded too so I could bring up my grade. The exams are all true or false (like 82 questions).

Took him for BIO 102 lab. He is a very knowledgeable guy who is passionate about the subject matter. He is also really organized and has clearly published dates and deadlines. Lab reports are relatively easy and not too long or tedious to complete. Overall, a truly great professor whom I would recommend for anyone to take.

Professor Terranova is a great lecturer and answers any biology questions you may have. There were only 5 exams, although the lowest is dropped and the second lowest is dropped if you come to the second to last class. Nothing else is graded, but the tests are fairly easy if you study the objectives.

I love Mr T so much, I had him for bio 101 and 102. if you study the objectives and make flashcards, you'll pass. the exams are long but the questions are all t/f so that helps. SUPER knowledgeable and sweet, very accessible and will help in any way he can if you're not understanding the material. seriously take him you won't regret it

Just studied the guides 100% successful. Know the syllabus, ask what part is essential(per slide), watch videos, write down only what he says u should take note of(so u can pay attention). review 2 hrs b4 exam, complete assignment b4 lecture(helps). Hes super chill and enthusiastic! Trust the process! Dont fall behind. Hybrid class

Had for BIO101 and 102 lecture and 101 lab. He is a really nice guy who cares a lot about the students. Lowest exam gets dropped and is all True/False. Extra credit questions offered on the exam. My class was hybrid and the online lectures posted were about all you needed to get an A on a test. I'm not a big fan of the T/F tests but many like it.

He's very clear on what you will be tested on and he is funny in a serious way

Professor Terranova is an absolute gem! He is very kind hearted and cares deeply about each one of his students. He gives amazing lectures and explains everything perfectly. He is also very accessible outside of class. Attend class, takes notes and study and you should pass with flying colors! By far, the best college professor I've ever had!

Had him for lab over the summer. Not a bad guy, and the class wasn't too hard. Just try ur best, show up to class, ask questions if u need to, and you'll def get an A. If u have any questions, he'll do his best to answer. Sure, he's not like AMAZING, but the other bad reviews are rly harsh tbh. He's a nice and jokey guy, and I enjoyed taking him.

You can tell how much effort Professor Terranova puts into his class. He makes his own powerpoints and exams. His lectures are compelling and explain everything you need to know for the exams, nothing more, nothing less. It's an easy A if you pay attention and take notes. I wish he taught all my classes.

I took the class at 8 AM so it was tiring and somewhat boring, the professor is very clear with the material. exams take no more than 30 minutes and are mainly true or false questions with a few extra credit questions towards the end.

He's one of the better professors. If you hate reading, don't take his lectures. The exam content focuses on the textbook, videos, and labs. There's many questions, but they're not difficult. He'll always be in class beforehand and answer any questions you have during and after class. Canvas is super organized so there isn't a reason to do badly.

You work in bigger groups and never do anything alone. No individual work. Ever. Makes it easier to get things done during dissections and writing answers. He'll help you during the lab and none of his quizzes/reports are about something that you won't have learned from the lab. One of the best Lab professors I've had.

Passionate about biology. Makes it fun, even for non-majors. Class structure is simple: read/answer objectives each week, watch his videos, read the textbook chapters. The objectives are what's on each exam! Labs are group work, he's super chill, just follow directions/be safe. Patient & will answer any question you have. 6 week hybrid course.

Professor Terranova is very serious about Bio but is also passionate as well! He's pretty strict when it comes to lab safety and timeliness, but he's very engaging and I learned a ton and had fun as well! I would highly recommend him to anyone willing to learn and put in the work, you will receive a good grade if you do!

He operates labs very well and follows the rules stated. ATTEND LAB. He will drop your lowest lab score. There are only ten labs, so try not to miss more than one. My group usually left an hour and a half to two hours after the start time. No phones and no drinks. Each lab either has a quiz or report.

Phenomenal teacher both in lab and lecture. Homework was to either read a couple of chapters in the textbook, watch a couple of videos, or both. He had 5 exams, all true or false, and the worst exam grade out of the 5 gets dropped at the end of the year. VERY passionate about biology and teaching the subject. Funny guy as well.

Prof Terranova is a nice person, but sometimes he would be sassy. Also, if you're doing something wrong he'll announce it to the class without saying your name, but at that point everyone knows who he's talking about. He talks loud and forces us to put our phones away because of the new "policy." His labs were pretty easy and he is willing to help.

He's a great teacher! Took his BIO101 summer course and it went by really quick. Attendance matters! His syllabus is clear and it's definitely recommended to have some time outside of class to study for the exams. He gives great examples and was easy to follow along. I drove all the way from Arlington area to Loudon so that should say something.

Took him over the summer (hybrid). Very straight forward professor. He is big on everyone reading directions. He is very helpful during lab if you are struggling. he drops the lowest lab quiz and exam. exams are True and false only which seemed scary, but it wasn't that bad because he gives you sample questions. Absolutely amazing professor. If you are struggling with the concepts of biology you need to take him. Graded on five exams, no curve, but all true or false. The quizzes are hard to study for but easy if you know the material. If you study and prepare for the exams properly you are guaranteed an A. He's super friendly and understanding.

Overall he is a good professor. He's VERY straight forward and doesn't care to call you out in front of the class. 2 quizzes for every lab. 1 at the start of lab from your previous lab, and another at the end to test you on the lab you did that day. He grades fairly. If you show up late he will not allow you to stay. Just be on time do your work.
