Funny guy who responds well to jokes. Long, but entertaining lectures. Biggest problem were his quizzes. Only requires 5, but they are very specific and hard. Midterm and Final are 3*1-page essay format that require very descriptive answers.
Quizzes are multiple choice and challenging ( to test us on the textbook readings), very fair essay exams from the textbook. Good teacher and likes his job!
Very nice and easy to work with. Responds very quickly to questions. Test and quizes are hard but easy if you study the material. Very good teacher to have.
One of the worst professors I've ever had... he seems like he is a nice guy, he is very funny, but all we are tested before he teaches the subject, his class is very boring, don't take his class!!!!!
He's nice, funny and entertaining.
Its as if he tries to trick students with his exams (which he gives before his lecture) if I had it to do over again I would pick a different teacher. Maybe one that wants to teach us before they test us. His lectures though are clear and interesting, if only he gave us the test after the lecture
Excellent and fasctinating lectures.
Best professors I had! Amusing, nice, makes history REALLY interesting. He's the reason I changed my major to History. You must pay attention and read to do well in the class, but overally he's very nice. EXTREMELY UNDERSTANDING!
worst teacher ever..he gives quizes before he teaches and his test is all short answers and essay..he grades really hard...on papers, it has to be perfect unless he wouldnt give you good grade and on test, you have to write with full of details to able to get A. He is really hard teachers..if i was you, i will drop him and take another teacher....
Awsome professor. The quizzes are the hardest part of the course. The tests are easy...if you study. Not a class you can just cram for the night before, you have to study throughout the whole course. As for the quizzes...he gives them to you before the lecture, but the quizzes are on the book, not the lecture anyway. Highly recommend.
You have to be functionally retarded to fail his quizzes. The questions are pulled straight from the book, and are very easy to predict. Good professor, and the class is easy as long as you do the assigned reading and go to class. Anyone who complains is just plain not doing the work, and he can't hold your hand the whole way through the course.
He was a pretty awesome teacher. He made history interesting. He was very very understanding as well. I really enjoyed his class
he's awesome, very funny, and will help you if you want to be helped. take his class seriously and he'll be very helpful, but if you **** it, he wont be too appreciative. make sure you read the book
If you have any question about history, this guy knows it. His class is hard, so if your looking for a BS class, dont go here. If your into history, then take him definitly. Very good teaching style, but alot of work. alot of reading, alot of quizzes, and dont be rude
Great teacher - lectures are interesting, tests are easy(if you pay attention and study your notes), quizzes are a pain because you actually have to read the book. The book Discussion was stupid because everyone decided to change the topic and he didn't stop them. Make sure you show some interest or he will not appreciate you as a student.
Great teacher. Very into his subject. The class was hard, but if you read the book you'll do O.K. He is real funny and entertaining in his lectures, but don't treat the class like a high school history class. If you don't do the work, he'll come down on you.
I like his teaching style, but if you dont like to read dont take his class!
awsome teacher !!!!
Good teacher, tests you before he teaches... if he doesn't want to give you a good grade, he won't... no matter how well you do on the papers and tests. stay on his good side and he is very fun.
This is an intesive course and you must put effort into your work if you expect a good grade. Participate in Class!!!! Even if your shy make an effort to ask questions. Yes you must read the text book for your quizes. I don't know why people freak out about this, quizes make up less than 10% of your final grade. He's a great professor. Study Hard!
Brilliant
You get out of this class what you put into it. It will explain many facets of the present (racism. propaganda, pop culture, war, geography, economy). Be ready for a heavy workload; 400 years is a lot of years! There are several opportunities to be creative.
i droped it
He makes it clear what he wants from you and will give you deadlines... but be ready to present before the deadline. after the first test you should get a pretty good idea of what he wants, exact dates, names, events... so be ready to memorize a lot, or fail the tests. he is extremely social and funny outside of class, not a very good teacher insid
he is a fair grader. He is big on participation, just make sure you participate every so often if you are not good at it. Also he knows his history, and is very understanding of people who stuggle with history. I am not a big fan of history at all, but i worked hard and got a B.
Professor Campbell is brilliant, understanding and genuinely cares about his students. Be prepared to buy and read the textbook, but no worries, there are no surprise quizzes. There is a research paper, but you can choose the topic. I'm a History major and learned SO much in this class. Highly recommend!
He's a very good teacher and learner. He's modest when he's listening, and he's proud of himself when he's giving the lecture. He's reasonable with quizzes, exams, and grades. He's funny and thoughtful. He's a big helper as well. He'll be very happy to help you if you show him that you really want to learn things.
Tough but fair.
there are 12 quizes, but you choose only4. There are 2tests that require massive essays. all theessays come from the focusquestions of all chapters. If you write an essaybefore thetest hewill tell you what needsto be improved.butu would haveto write 12 mock essays&only 4 are on the test. Gives the BESTlectures!! requires great reading&writing skills
Great teacher. He demands a lot, but it is well worth it. His class is not only very informative, but it can actually be fun. He gives you everything you need to succeed, and it is purely up to the student how well they do.
awsome teacher!! lectures are very helpfull, and he is always willing to meet with you anytime to help you.
AWESOME TEACHER =) I HATE history, but taking his class has been extremely beneficial. Dont get me wrong, its hard, but you learn soOo much its totally worth all the reading. He's tough... but direct, he cleary tells you what is required... and if you do the work you will def. get and A and a new vision on the world around you =) highly suggest him
Professor Campbell was my favorite teacher. Before attending his class I hated history, now Im majoring in it. He is very helpful. He used to sit with me in his office for a long time explaining anything I didn't understand. The greade is all up to you in this class. He gives you everything on the exams ahead of time.
Took him for 111 & 112. If i were a four-year University I'd hire him for chairmen of the history department in a second. He's that good. Wish he was teaching at my University now. Hands down the best professor I've ever had. Thank you Professor Campbell!
Study and use his office hours he is there to help you!!!! GREAT TEACHER
I've never taken his class, but I asked if I could sit in one the other day and it just blew me away. He method of teaching is extremely humorous and refreshing after taking a bunch of classes from university professors who don't give a crap about their students. The best part is that it's so relaxed and entertaining that you learn without trying.
He can be a jerk when he wants to be. There's a huge amount of reading and it's so easy to fail in his class. There are so few quizzes and so few questions on huge chapters. A lot of time needs to be invested in this class. A short answer in his opinion isn't just a sentence or two and he still gave me a crappy grade and the info was right.
He's a wonderful professor. He's good for anyone going into a History or English field. If you like writing, he's the professor for you! He is also a great lecturer.
GREAT TEACHER -- Before his class I hated History. I learned more about american history in his semester class than I did in my year long high school AP course. Get the work done you get an A, and he's ALWAYS willing to help!! He makes it interesting & his love for history becomes contagious!
Professor Campbell is by far one of the best history professors at HCC. He demands a fair amount of work, but will help you every step of the way should you choose. His test questions are known the first day of class so it is up to you whether you want an A or B, because if you follow his directions you will suceed.
Professor Campbell is a great teacher. He tells you exactly what he's looking for from the start and what you need t do to succeed. I was struggling the first half of the class and he instructed me on what to do to earn a good grade on the midterm i earned an A on the midterm but a B for the class. If you dont follow directions he will call you out
Has a ton of good information. Power point slides are pretty good; however, hes got a lot of them with info towards the bottom, so if you're in the back of class good luck reading it. He will not stand up. If you need to make eye contact with someone lecturing to keep interest; sit in the front. Overall, great content and execution of lectures.
amazing teacher. just do the papers, and study and you'll do fine
Really funny teacher. Always has some jokes ready to say
easily the best professor I've had. He's extremely passionate about History and always makes every lecture interesting to the point of excitement. All teachers should be like him. Just study for his exams and do the papers and you'll pass with flying colors.
He's a great freaking teach. one of the best in the world!!!
I took his honors 111 class, but I loved him so much, I ended up taking two other classes with him: a study abroad trip and Hist-112. Out of all the teachers at HCC. Campbell is the best by a LONG shot! :D
wonderful teacher! Took one class with him and then two study abroad trips with him. Learned so much!
Prof. Campbell is an amazing teacher! Had him for one class so far but taking two more just because he is so much fun but also so challenging. His class is alot of work and you MUST give it your all to get a good grade but he makes everything as easy as it can be, you just have to put forth the time and determination.
Took his class during the winter session. Tons of reading and writing required in his class. Which wasn't a problem for me; however, if you're looking for an easy grade this might not be the class for you. He is serious about history and kicked a student out the first day for texting. We never saw him again. Do your work and you're golden.
needs to be more of a teacher
Mr. Campbell is a really good teacher, one of the best I've had. If you're just looking to get by with the easiest class, you probably don't want him as a professor. If you really want to learn, he is great and his lectures are interesting and even funny! He is always willing to offer extra help (before it's due!), you just have to work.
Really helpful and makes learning history fun. Never had an interest in history prior to taking his class. Reading and writing intensive, it is not easy. But worthwhile if you can put in the time and effort.
If you want an easy class, do not take this one. Though he was an awesome professor, offers any help you need before anything is due. This was definitely my toughest class of the semester, but it was also the one I got the most out of. He's hilarious and very nice! You have to read and study hard to pass.I hated history before, but not anymore.
Professor Campbell is the best teacher I have ever had albeit one of the most difficult. His personality can be abrasive but he is hilarious once you get to know him! Great guy, excellent instructor!
Great teacher, very helpful. Explains material with utmost clarity, allows for maximum retention. Highly recommend taking any class he offers.
He makes history pretty fun. This could be a really easy A if you don't procrastinate. He tells you exactly what will be on the midterm and final on the syllabus, so be proactive. He can be a little bit... abrasive at times, but he doesn't mean to hurt, just to give tough love.
I loved him as a teacher. I got a B in the class but it is very easy to get an A. You have all of the materials for the final/ midterm on the first day of class you just honestly need to have the time to study or you're going to be screwed. He is really funny, and very helpful with everything.
Best professor by far!!!! He gives you everything you need to pass, you just have to study and honestly it was an easy A afterall... By the way he talked about people dropping the class I thought it was going to be hard, but because he kept it interesting it made me want to learn and made me excited to be there!
Wonderful professor! Really knows his history and is passionate about it. I took three classes with him and I enjoyed every one. He is difficult at times, but that is only if you don't try. He's very honest and will tell you what you are lacking in order for you to improve. A great guy too! Go on study abroad with him if you can!!
Great professor. Cares about history, knows his stuff, and wants to see his students succeed. If you dont like reading or writing, dont take this class because thats all you do for homework and tests respectively. However, he makes everything crystal clear and tells you what is on every test on the first day of class. Oh, and he's funny, too.
If you want to transform the way you think about history, politics, and current events and your place in them, PLEASE take this class. Be willing to put quite a bit of work into it if you want to get an A, but having Professor Campbell is worth it. You come out with a lot more than memorized dates and names.
His lectures are great but he quizzes you on the chapters before the lecture so be prepared. His tests were all writing paragraph summaries of terms and essay answers. Not to mention he scheduled all our big things in one week with weeks of just lecture so that made it difficult. However I will say he was always willing to help and answer questions
GREAT Professor. I could care less about History before taking this class. Professor Campbell is funny and makes time fly by, and he is always willing to help and even stay after class to show you exactly what he wants if you have any questions. A lot of writing and reading. A lot of reading and writing. Take him and you will not regret it.
He's an excellent teacher. He's very friendly and knows his history. This course is writing intensive so expect writing a few papers and for tests. Over-all he's an interesting teacher and will give you a reason to enjoy and learn history.
Professor Campbell, has to be a top 3 professor at Howard Community College. His quizzes come from the book. His testes are based on the chapters. He cares about his students, all you have to do is put in the work. Please take him if you can.
great lectures and a great teacher overall.
Just put the work into it and follow his instructions carefully and you will be fine. ;)
He turned probably the most boring subject in the world to the most interesting subject ever! His lectures really engage you. I hated history before I took his class but he changed my outlook. He also gives really great life tips and is somewhat inspiring.
Professor Campbell is excellent! I took this as an interdisciplinary core, and it was one of my last classed at HCC... He is VERY funny, always willing to answer questions, he grades very fairly, and he always has your papers back to you within a day or two. This is not an easy A, but it is the best class that I have ever taken.
Dr. Campbell clearly loves his job and it shows. He explains things in a way that's relatable and fun. I went into this class not knowing much about history, and not liking history much. Once I got into the class it was the best class I've ever had. Also, made me think about being a history major. Lectures were fun and enthusiastic.
His class is extremely difficult and overwhelming a first. i got very discouraged but i am glad i stuck it out. easily the best teacher i have eve had. whatever you do don't fall asleep or your might see some real stuff!
He definitely knows what he is talking about and absolutely recommend him. His quizzes can be a bit hard but definitely do the reading. Participation is a must. I do not know why people thought he was hard. There are no surprise assignments, everything is on canvas the first day. You won't be bored in his class.
Great professor who conducts great lectures, grades with forgiveness on essays, papers, and exams, but issues very difficult quizzes on material before lecturing on it. Fortunately, the quizzes are not highly weighted while the class is focused on exams, papers, and participation. Prof. Campbell inspires a passion for the study of history!
He is the best instructor I have ever had. He knows his stuff. Studying is VERY important. He is willing to help you outside of class. Come with questions he will answer them. Be a productive student. His lectures are very informative and fun. He's really a great instructor
Professor Campbell makes this class way harder than it needs to be.
Yes, he's entertaining, I will give him that. But he makes the class so much harder than it needs to be. This is entry level history, yet you're expected to read 100+ pages for the first assignment. He quizzes you on the textbook before he lectures you, and don't miss a single detail in that reading because those quiz questions are very specific.
There was 3 essays, 3 tests, and 3 class discussions for the semester. The test is 1 essay and describing 5 important terms in detail. There is also a quiz almost every week, based on the reading. You need to read to do well, because the quiz is given before the lecture, but you can only take 6 quizzes per semester. The bulk of his class is lecture
Campbell is extremely passionate about History, so it makes for an entertaining class. However, he makes you take quizzes on the chapters before he lectures on them so you have to know the chapter inside and out. The quizzes ask very specific questions so they can be very hard. Other than difficult assignments, this was a great class.
Good professor, but you need to be ready to study, read, participate in class, and write.
Makes history fun and interesting. 3 exams, 3 essays, 3 discussion, and 6 quizzes. Participation matters. Don't sleep or use your phone! Trust me, you don't want to go through that. The hardest part the whole semester were the quizzes. You are quizzed before the lecture, so you HAVE to read, because the questions are very specific.
He assigned us to read the each chapter for 30-40 pages before the quiz and he won't tell us what's gonna be on it. Also, He expected us to talk during class about something in order to earn participation grade, even though I'm not aware of anything.
I have never ever enjoyed a history class until I took one with him. His lectures are AMAZING- both hilarious and informative. The quizzes and tests were manageable and the papers were fairly simply. It makes a world of difference having a professor that is passionate about what he teaches like Campbell is.
Professor Campbell is tough when it comes to doing the assignments but he is very specific on what he is looking for. He wants to know and understand the material which is why he can be tough when it comes to grading. But other than that, you will not fall asleep in his class. He is hilarious!!!! Ask him who is least favorite president is..
Professor Campbell is easily the best history teacher I've ever had throughout college. He is extremely passionate and cares about his students. He teaches you the material you need to know and expects you to put the same effort in the work you turn in to him, its that simple. He's hilarious and makes his lectures to be very entertaining.
Prof Campbell is great! I took his Celtic Ireland History class (for the Ireland study abroad trip). We had a week of lectures before we left, which was a lot of info to take in. Throughout the trip he helped us connect what we were seeing with what we learned in lecture. At the end of the course we had a book report and a research paper due.
Professor Campbell has extremely difficult quizzes followed by average-difficulty tests. We only had to take 6 quizzes out of the 12 or so offered. Late work is accepted for a penalty. If you don't show up to class, you will fail...5% per absence and multiple classes have discussions. Dry humor livens the class and makes lecture enjoyable.
Professor Campbell, is a great guy but not my cup of tea. Made us read 30-40 pages and expected us to take a quiz the next class meeting on stuff that he hadn't taught. Spent the class after we took the quiz explaining what we took on the quiz so that wasnt helpful. Hilarious dude, but thats about it. Unless youre good at history stay away!
He made this clss much harder then it should have been. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM. He requires to much reading and the test and quizzes are to difficult unless your a history lover. He failed me because they accused me of cheating on the final exam after having a B he gave me a D.
Campbell is very funny. He keeps the class interested with jokes and modern references. I normally hate history and can't stay awake ever, but I never once fell asleep in Campbell's class.
Oh my god... It was WAY too much work and the exams were WAY too hard... Gave really good feedback on work though.
He's a great guy. As long as you do the readings, you'll pass.
Took Campell 10 + years ago, best professor I ever had, even after I transferred to a 4 year and moved to another state, you generation Z softees need to get a grip, yes you have to work for a good grade, and crying about reading 30 pages? Wait till you get into the real world! One word of advice Professor, less Howard Zinn and more Thomas Sowell!
Great in class discussions. He's always willing to help you get ready for the tests, and pulls test questions right out of the textbook so you can prepare.
Rating professor Campbell again because I went to Ireland with him. One of the best history teachers I have ever had! He definitely gives alot of work, but ya know this isn't high school. He is an engaging and funny teacher, who is passionate about his teaching. Go on study abroad with professor Campbell!!!!!
Professor Campbell is an amazing professor. He makes his lectures fun and brings in current events every now and then. HOWEVER, he is not always able to cover everything, so when the test comes, youll probably have to teach yourself the material. There are also quizzes that are taking each week, where you have to teach yourself the material. 10/10
I beg all of you! don't take a single class with this man. He's HARD and can be very disrespectful
He isn't bad. He gives a lot of work but easy work if you manage your time. He's a tough grader.
I took his online course. If there were any concerns about grading or assignments, he answered them promptly. The Mid-Term and Final are weighted heavily in this course and you really do need to study for them. I enjoyed his class a lot. He is a fair grader. I would definitely take another one of his classes! Highly recommend.
This man truly helped me learn about history and actually cares about what he is teaching
