Prof. Harrop's class is wicked easy...he gives detailed notes...and does not make you memorize formulas...as long as u take notes and do some of the homework(which he doesnt check) you'll pass his class easily.
Very easy instructor, but I really wanted to be challenged in the course. Not sure if I really know the material or not.
very thorough notes - formulas on the tests - doesn't collect homework. Okay, so he seems a little neurotic, but so what? He's a good teacher. I HATED Math before I took Prof. Harrop, and kinda still do, but I managed to get a "C" (and could have done better if I made more of an effort).
one of the few Math professors teaching 139 who doesn't have students do "group work." If you're shy like me, or don't like working in groups, this is very good!
good teacher not that hard of a class. hes a strange guy, if you've ever seen "falling down", hes alot like the main character. simple math class, nothing hard unless you dont show up and dont do any hw.
very unclear and all over the place with notes.his proofs on exams were ridiculous.if you do better on the final than any of your exams, he drops your lowest exam and replaces it with the final grade.extremely boring and hard to understand..for that matter hard to stay awake!
Really knows his stuff, unlike many RIC professors. As long as you go to class you will do well. I didn't buy the book or do the homework. I am horrible at math and ended with an A. Personality wise he is very "Monk"-ish, and apparently loves the English language.
He's a nerdy little man, who LOVES math. He looks like a Mathemitician. He's a shy guy who knows his stuff. He's very thorough, and the exams are easy as long as you pay attention in class. Decent Prof.
Very boring but very easy, outlines the book, nerdy, lack of communication with students, alright tests.
I enjoyed having his class. He always seemed a little hyper and went through things quickly, but I completely enjoyed the class.
he is the soo nerdy, I almost feel bad for him. He studders and that makes it hard to understand him. He gives toooo much unneeded information and is all over the place. His tests arent hard but his teaching style is crappy. Overall he isnt that bad for math, you can skip class and not really miss anything.
Very easy. Tests always include theoroms and equations, no need to study as long as you went to class. Ok to miss a class once in awhile and not fall behind. Homework optional, works at a slow pace.
Professor Harrop was very enjoyable. Took this class with my daughter. We had a great time in his class. Very fair instructor.
I hated his lectures, he's boring and goes fast and studders. But, he's so strange that he's entertaining to watch sometimes. You have to do the homework, for me that was the only way i could pass because i didn't understand his lectures. he'll help you if you need it. Day of exam he lectures the first hour and the exam is during the second hour.
Prof. Harrop really knows his math. His teaching style is kind of boring but he makes it understandable.I seriously went to class like once a week and he never said anything about my absences. Attendance doesn't matter, and I was able to pass the class by reading the chapters in the book and doing the practice problems. I got an A.
Prof. Harrop is a great guy! I'm horrible at math, and he got me through it, painlessly. I worked really hard and went to most classes (which I knew I would need to do). He was willing to meet with me outside of class and explain things I didn't understand the first time around in class. If math is not your forte, take a class with him! No regrets!
I think Professor Harrop is adorable. He wants to make sure students do well and is willing to take time after class to make sure you understand the lessons.
Well well well. Harrop is an interesting character, that's for sure. He tries hard to get his ideas out to the class but I think he's a bit shy. He can be boring at times and he can distract you, but he gives you loads of opportunities to succeed. He's got a final grade scaling policy too. I thought i was bordering on a B+ and an A- but I got an A?
I would HIGHLY recommend Harrop. I won't lie, the material is hard, but it's not so much his teaching that will help you as much as his grading. He has an awesum scaling system which can boost you up like a whole letter grade. In addition, on tests, he gives a lot of credit, even if the answer is wrong. Show work and he will only take off a little.
professor harrop is such a nice guy. he definatly is shy around his class-- won't make eye contact! he keeps his eyes closed when he faces the class. he does his best teaching the material and if you attend class, do the hw & study for his exams you should do just fine. if math is not your thing, take his class. you'll do well & learn a thing or tw
Prof. Harrop is a nice guy. most of the ques on exams are right from class, homework, etc. takes his time to teach every lesson thoroughly, so you won't get out early, but its worth it to get the most out of his lessons. Not a huge deal to miss class bc he will go over hmwk if u ask questions. reccommended.
He is a good teacher, and amusing. He is very dry and boring, but that makes him hilarious. He is a shy guy, but he will teach you very clearly, and hes awesome.
very nice Professor. easy grader. gives you more lost of point if you do the right proccess in the test, even if you don't get the right answers.
Highly recommend him. He can get a little repetative and studders at times, but he's a very clear teach. He explains things so you understand them. Easy grader. Gives credit for all of the work you do. Doesn't collect homework but it is helpful to do it and he explains if you have questions about the homework problems.
He's the best math teacher ever!! Very clear, and will go out of his way to help you if you need it. He tells you exactly what to study and his lectures cover the lessons very thoroughly. If math isn't really your thing, Harrop is the teacher for you!!
1 of the best Prof@RIC fair grader,do the assignments & you'll do fine.1 COMPLAIN: gives 50 minutes to take the Exam,I think it's not fair or at least not to me,exams are not hard but they are long enough to have more than 50minutes.I rushed through to finish his exams but no luck:(If you take him,use your both hands on the exams Highly Recommende
Very helpful if you show interest in his class. Works at a good pace. Do the work and you'll do alright. Took him for QBA II. Overall good experience.
i really don't understand why this professor has such high ratings, it is very hard to follow him in class he is constantly going off on tangents and takes forever. lets just say i'm glad i sat next to a smart kid or idk if i would have passed
great guy and teacher, knows his stuff. Once you can get past his roundabout way of saying things you're fine.
By far worst teacher ive EVER had. Not only @ RIC but EVER. He is way 2 smart 4 his own good & he makes you feel like an idiot all the time. 4 exams which r hard. Does "replace" lowest exam which helps. Besides tht DONT TAKE HIM! I dont understand why people said he is a good teacher he is HORRIBLE! Rude, boring, hard 2 understand overall AWFUL
Brilliant with math. Willing to help. Assumes you're trying your hardest. Quirky, and funny at times. Always has little bits of random information throughout his lectures. Homework, attendance, and participation are not mandatory but highly recommended. if you intend on taking higher level math classes, he will help build a solid foundation for you
Awesome teacher! explains everything out perfectly, does enough different examples for sections to be prepared for the exam. Replaces the lowest exam grade with the final. would deff take him again!
Professor Harrop is such a sweet man. He cares very much about his students and he explains everything clearly. I didn't have any trouble with this class and I didn't mind attending it. The material is very easy, but tedious. He's an overall wonderful professor! Highly recommended.
Definitely recommend this class. Attendance isn't mandatory, nor needed. Homework isn't checked, but if you do it you have a better chance at doing well on tests, which are exact replicas of the homework. Harrop makes this class as easy as possible to pass and scales. You'd have to try to fail this course.
If I hadn't taken pre-calc prior to taking this class I would be extremely confused. He jumps around way too much from different things and makes the stuff more confusing then it has to be. I had a B in high school calculus and an A in pre-calc and he somehow manages to confuse me.
great professor i took him in the summer. does not collect homework but will assign it. gives you plenty of examples and his exams are all from his notes. i would take him.
Dr. Harrop has to be one of my favorite teachers. He is such a sweetheart! He assigns homework which is not mandatory, but his exams reflect off of the homework. Understand the HW and you're good!! Explains some problems in a complicated way, but he is always there for help! I definitely recommend this professor.
Never take this teacher. Attendance is optional. Teaches with his eyes closed. Very strange. Not very clear. Doesn't really know what he is taking about. Never take a class with this professor.
Dr. Harrop is not that great at lecturing. He spends way too much time on one particular problem. However, his exams are practically a reflection of the homework. In other words, do the homework you pass. Also, he is very helpful during his office hours and encourages students to come for help.
Dr. Harrop is an intelligent professor who meticulously explains the material. He's an easy grader, and he uses plenty of class time to discuss homework to ensure that nobody gets left behind. The only drawback to the class was that it wasn't as focused on proof so much as memorization of theorems. Either way, I recommend him!
Professor Harrop is a sweetheart. Yes he has his flaws in which he stutters and mumbles alot, but overall you really learn in his class! I recommend you take notes and attend class because it is very essential in your studying. He is enthusiastic about making sure everyone understands the material! Take him, you'll learn, not the hard way!
Really smart man extremely helpful
Works hard to make sure his students get the most out of his class. Sometimes even very humorous
Okay so this class is easy, only 5 exams thats including the final. There not long&the material is relatively easy if you study. Now i say study because he is a spazz&I can barely keep up with him all class&is a pretty strange dude. So i took his notes&studied that&the book. If i could understand him i prob wouldnt have to study. Dude is frazzled
He tends to over specify a lot of things, which can be more confusing when you thought you understood the material. Also he assigns 2 textbooks, the "Student Solutions Manual", I promise you, you will not even open once (and its really expensive to rent). Do yourself a favor and JUST rent the actual textbook, not the student solutions manual.
Very nice man but he is very unclear when he teaches and if you do not go to class you will do poorly if you are not strong in math. There are a lot of tests and these are your only grades
Dr. Harrop is a pretty good professor, his lectures are a bit on the heavy side,he does not offer extra credit or re-do's,but he's a lenient grader, he wants to see his students do well. He's accessible outside of class. I recommend getting the teacher version of the book. Attendance isn't mandatory but I HIGHLY recommend you attend to take notes.
Professor Harrop is a great guy, he does stutter but not so much where I dont understand what is going on. The exams are super easy and so is the material. I didn't study for a single exam and never got lower than a 93. As long as you go to class and take notes this is the easiest class I've taken thus far in my college career.
He is quite odd; however, he knows what he's talking about. He gives examples to the topic and shows step by step how to get the answers. Although attendance is not mandatory, everything discussed in class are on the quizzes. An easy class to pass, and getting the textbook is pretty much optional.
He knows his stuff but he is very lecture heavy and doesnt give practice problems in class which makes it more difficult
I would not recommend ever taking him as a professor. I never had trouble with math until this course. He doesn't teach. The course is an hour and 50 min long and he spends 50 min on one problem from homework. The only way I learned was through my tutor sessions twice a week, never in his class. I didn't learn one thing from him.
Good teacher, he spends time doing examples step by step and while it is tedious it does help.
He goes very slow and goes over problems step by step (Sometimes unnecessarily) b/c of this the class can be really boring at times but I'd say that if you're a student that struggles with math, you SHOULD take him. If math is easy for you and like to go a little fast DO NOT take him. His exams are straightforward. 4 exams + Final. Hw is not graded
He's actually one of the worse professors I've ever taken at RIC. There are only 5-6 questions for his exams but each exam is 25% each no cumulative (during the summer time). He's forgetful, whenever he's teaching, my class always have to correct him. Will not give extra credits or makeup exams. Will not try to understand. He's very weird.
I cannot understand his handwriting, he also writes very small so make sure to sit at the front of the class. If you're bad at math, run, and fast! I learn nothing in class. I rely on tutoring at OASIS or youtube videos. He also cannot hold a normal conversation with you. The first exam, 6 students passed and 13 students failed.
I took this class during the summer session (6 weeks) I will say that he did make some mistake in own problem. His handwriting can be sloppy but I think is understandable. Had 3 exams which had 4-6 problems which all came from the notes. If you don't understand his handwriting ask he will tell you. Also, don't speak when he lectures! But easy class
Professor harrop is a nice professor, but he is a tough one. Specifically, all of his math exams are tough and one word of advice to any college student is to try your best and sometimes go to the math center for help if professor harrop gives you a hard time.
If you dont have patience, RUN. Harrop is nice, but his lectures are all over the place. He spends almost the entire class going over homework, but can only complete 2-3 problems because he takes FOREVER to explain them. His exams are pretty easy, but make sure you do the homework because he doesnt really teach. Very scatterbrained.
if youre not good at math, take Harrop he explains everything clear and gives partial credit. You will pass if you show up and review the textbook. If you get bad grades it is because you put 0 effort what so ever. Exams easy, course easy, SHOW UP. Hands down best math teacher in RIC college history!! Take it, show up, pay attention, youll get A)
I dont understand how people could give this guy a bad review unless they didnt show up or pay attention. Just take notes, use the textbook for help, and his exams are easy with partial credit making it very hard to fail. Most understanding professor out there. I was bad at math before but this class gave me confidence again. Thanks Harrop
Very easy and self explanatory... just show up and pay attention. His exams are easy and he is not anal with grading. Gives very much partial credit so its hard to not pass. Such an honor to have had him as a professor versus some Johnny pencil pusher who doesnt care whether students pass or fail
I went to every lecture except for one and I still left his class with only a C. He's very unclear when talking about what we should focus on, often hard to follow in lectures as well. Only grades you on four tests, each worth 25% of your grade. There are far better teachers out there for this subject, and his teaching made my understanding worse.
STEER CLEAR OF HIM!!! Gave minimal notes. Seriously gave so little notes I had to teach myself. Spent 50 minutes to one hour GOING OVER ONE HW PROBLEM! If you distract him he will go off on a tangent and make the whole class fall even more behind. He talks with his eyes closed, and will yell at you if your talking. Like seriously yell.
I didn't go to class unless it was an exam day. I still passed with flying colors. The material is easy and he sends an email a week prior to every exam explaining what will be on it, so there are no surprises. Just buy the book (not the student solutions, you won't use it), and you can practically teach yourself. He's an odd one, but class is easy
He goes over everything in his lectures. 4 exams and a final, grades you on those. Attendance isn't mandatory if you understand the material. He does assign homework but doesn't collect and goes over examples in class. Buy the book and study.
Very hard class, he lectures with his eyes closed, if you talk in class, even a single word you WILL get yelled at. He stutters constantly and is very hard to follow. If you TRY to ask a question he cuts you off before you finish. If your bad at math steer clear, at least he doesn't make you do hours and hours of online homework.
Professor Harrop is really sweet, he is always available outside of class. Can be weird a little weird during class and gets off track easily but his lectures are really straightforward, he only teaches what will be on the exams and even gives a formula sheet.
Professor Harrop is one of the better Math professor's I've had at RIC. He is very fair in his grading and absolutely will not let you have no credit on an exam work effort so he will give you points. His exams are right out of the book so do homework. Pre-calc is hard but he made is easy with his extremely straight forward exams. Very nice guy!
A hot mess to stay the least. STAY AWAY!! I had to withdraw and retake because I learned nothing. I went to tutoring and nothing helped because I had nothing from class to work off of. Grade is 100% exam grades. Doesn't give a homework grade. Talks about random things and rants on and on. So unorganized and just stay away if you can.
Professor Harrop did not hold synchronous lectures, but he did assign homework and videos to watch to teach the material. Grade is based solely on EXAMS. I would only recommend taking him if you are good at being self-disciplined, he will not be there to guide you.
Grades only off of exams. If you cant self teach dont take him. If you ask questions he points you towards syllabus and handouts but does respond. Take your time with your exams every single point counts.
professor Harrop gives you materials to succeed, only grades are exams, prepare to do some homework to be ready for exam and make sure to ask questions
Does not wear his mask. Extremely annoying. Doesn't teach. Rambles like a mf. Do not take this class it is miserable
Professor Harrop is a nice guy but he is not a good teacher! He will ramble on about things that have nothing to do with math and he's a little all over the place. He gave very few examples during class that weren't helpful and didn't go by the online textbook so it was very hard to even get help. Graded only on the exams through the pearson lab.
He stutters so much, I've only had him for about 3-4 weeks and I can't switch now. He stutters so badly, he mutters about random things while teaching an speaks quietly in the start of class. It's difficult to understand him and it's so annoying. Would I suggest him? If Ingrid is teaching the same thing and she's the only professor then yes.
His class is insufferable to sit through due to his rambling. It's gotten to the point where I just use the online textbook to teach myself because he is literally wasting everyone's time by rambling on and on about random stuff.
If you are a self learner then by all means take this course
I made a review but here's an update: I withdrew from his class to save my GPA. He is very disrespectful and cannot teach. He never directly answers questions and does not discuss homework. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. He talks for the whole class but you don't learn anything. Trust me, I tried my absolute best but even that wasn't enough.
He made math super easy because he explained everything in great detail. If you go to class and take down the notes he writes on the board, you will pass with a good grade. There are 4 exams and a final exam, all which are very easy and an exact reflection of what he teaches in class.
Most of my education was at home using the required MyLab videos and questions. I found Prof. Harrop hard to follow. He has 4 tests which are easy multi. choice (if you study), and optional homework. This class is for self-studiers who can spend about 80 bucks extra. Final Advice: DO NOT BUY THE BLITZER EBOOK BUNDLE (you only need MyLab imo).
This is the sweetest old man I ever have met. Many classmates are too mean to him and I feel as though these negative reviews do not accurately describe Dr. Harrop. His passion for the job is apparent. Homework is even optional. Please treat this man with the kindness he deserves, he is amazing.
Professor Harrop is a sweet caring old man who likes to ramble about random stuff during lectures, he does provide definitions for the material and various examples, though it can be pretty confusing so definitely go to tutoring and do the homework (I highly recommend) he gives breaks but keeps you at the end of class, expect it to be repetitive!
Professor Harrop is very nice, however, I ended up having to learn everything online. His lectures are very confusing and it takes him an hour to go over one example. A lot of repetitiveness.
Only exams count, no homework, no quiz. if you are not a good test taker, and self learner, do not take any of his classes. He is very old, nothing posted on blackboard not even grades, and goes on random rants in the middle of the lesson. He is considerate of situation but would not give partial credit for work shown one exams.
He only grades four exams and a final, there is optional homework but it is not graded. He lectures for two hour straights with a ten minute break in between. He only uses the whiteboard and his handwriting at times can be illegible and his voice can be very hard to listen to. He is very kind but you need to study a lot in his class to pass.
I do not recommend I took him for pre cal and he does not answer your questions, no extra credit, although exams are multiple choice so I guess that's good. I have to repeat this class due to my requirements but I will not be taking him. if you can get this maths out the way online if u went to ccri or can go there DO IT.
worst professor ever! would not recommend it to anyone. He does not care about his student's success. He does nothing to help! Take someone else if you want to do well.
whenever he speaks you can't even understand him at all. There's a lot of stuttering and mumbling as if he's talking to himself not the students. His handwriting is bad, he writes very sloppy cursive, so its kind of tough to keep up with his notes if you can't read cursive. All grades are based on exams, no homework (optional - for exam practices).
This class is fairly simple. It took me time to come up with a successful way to study. My advice, keep it simple when studying. He assigns a lot of homework but don't do it all. His exams are straightforward, he's not trying to trick you. He could be nicer in his office hours, can be rude. You will pass easily if you pay attention and try.
Are you ready for Freddy because I wasn't. Lectures are extremely hard to follow as his handwriting looks like it is in a different language. I had an easier time teaching myself than listening to this professor. It might as well have been online.
0/10 do not take this class with harrop if you are a bad test taker. Graded for the whole semester by 4-5 tests. No assignments if you do bad on 1-2 tests your grade will be bad.
Do not take this class if you want to learn something. His writing is not good. It makes no sense. Not only that, but it is like he is talking to himself and teaching himself. He stutters a lot and stops mid-sentence; he leaves you on cliffhangers. He gives homework, but you are not graded on it, nor are you graded on attendance
That class is super easy. The only problem is he talks to himself instead of teaching it to us. It likes he's teaching himself from the start of class all the way till our quiz. Attendance isn't mandatory as well homework isn't grades so no point of doing it. Ur only grades r the quizzes u take for each class and he only takes ur best 20 quiz's.
