Reads a powerpoint for 80 minutes
Its hard to understand what she means, but she is super helpful if you go to her office hours.
teaches at a very fast rate MUST go to class heavy accent but understandable gives a lot of quizzes
She doesn't review before the test. Doesn't give you your tests back. Gives out horrible notes. Constantly plants homework on you. Doesn't explain well. bless your soul if you have her get her in the future
DO NOT GET. there are at least 70-80 power point slides per chapter, and she covers a whole chapter and then some in 2 days. does not teach, just reads off the power points for 80 minutes. not very willing to help students. lectures like she is teaching a bunch of seniors majoring in chemistry, but is teaching to a bunch of very confused freshman.
She's an incredibly nice lady and will go the extra mile to help you understand if you go to her office hours, but she loads un-retainable amounts of information onto her presentations, and is poor at explaining things to freshmen who have very limited chemistry backgrounds. The tests really aren't too bad if you study and pay attention in class.
Does not explainwell. Goes way too fast through material. Gives opportunity for extra credit, though. Tests are very hard, not very similar to practice tests. About 11 pop quizzes (2 questions each) throughout course. Piles on a ridiculous amount of homework. If you generally struggle in chemistry like I do, I would not recommend taking her.
Funda is a very nice lady and very helpful in her office hours. Other than that this class was extremely difficult and I struggled to keep my grade higher than a C. She is difficult to understand with her accent and her monotone voice. Her lectures and long and boring. She has a big extra credit assignment though. Homework is long and hard!
I found her test pretty fair. She does cover material pretty quickly and expects you to read the book to keep up. She will explain a topic more than once if it's tricky and is very willing to help you if you are confused. I came into this class with very little knowledge on chem but I found that I learned a lot in this class. Homework is tough.
PROS: Offers a 50pt bonus. Helpful material on Moodle--powerpoints for each chapter, practice tests with answer key, uploaded all tests forms after you take an exam with problems explained. CONS: Long, monotonous lectures. Get past accent. Pop quizzes, so attendance is important. Long MasteringChemistry homework so don't wait until last minute.
Gives pop quizzes in class. Hard to pay attention in class. She reads from power points that you fill in the blanks. The extra credit was a grade-saver.
By far the worst chemistry teacher. She is hard to understand and doesn't help you understand the material. She's hard to get in touch with and rarely ever answers emails. Tests are only 25 questions, and each test is worth 125 points, and they're hard. Basically have to teach yourself the material. Only good thing is the Chemistry Demo
Funda is extremely difficult, because there's only 25 questions. You miss 6 and your already at a C. Take literally anyone else for this course. Her test are basically impossible. The homework is graded for accuracy and extremely hard. From my understanding, every other chemistry professors is counted for bonus points. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Professor K is not a horrible professor. Her tests are not that bad if you take the practice tests she gives you and when you have questions about them go to her office hours. She's always willing to help. However, the final is extremely hard because you have to teach yourself many of the major concepts. Do ChemDemo or you won't get higher than a B
She is such an adorable lady. Her lectures were boring however. Nonetheless, I learned a lot in her class and her exams were similar to her exam reviews.
She really wants her students to succeed, will help you during office hours, tries to make you accountable for the material. ALL Chem 1201 courses are difficult at LSU and require tons of studying. Teaches first four chapters really fast. Ch. 3 is the hardest. She offers lots of Bonus! Go to SI sessions, study 20+ hours weekly, you will make an A.
Homework is mandatory in her class, but for most other professors it's optional for bonus. I could barely understand her and she would move on quickly. There are pop quizzes. I am not satisfied with the grade I made in this class and have to retake it.
Not very clear during the lecture. Hard to meet up with to work with students. The SI Instructor basically saves everyone in the class, go to that. She can cover up to 1-2 chapters a class so its important to pay attention but powerpoints are online. She does take attendance and have pop quizzes every class.
I have no idea why her rating is so low! She has a little accent, but my friends and I have no problem understanding her. She is VERY helpful in her office hours and after class. Her practice tests are similar to her real ones! I was bad at chemistry in high school but am about to finish this class with A! Second easiest chemteacher (after Kolinak)
You MUST attend class. She has an accent so it is kinda hart to understand her. She move super fast and doesn't really slow down for anyone. Hope y'all know how to teach yourselves.
No clue why her rating is so low. She is a great teacher. She is more than willing to help if you have question, she gives super easy in class quizes for easy points, and she posts practice tests online that are exact same as real thing. She assigns a lot of homework, but it's nothing you cant handle. Slight accent, but understandable. Would take.
The hardest class I've taken and I do not recommend Kizilkaya. Expect to have lots of homework and hard tests and be prepared for pop quizzes every class. Don't think you'll get away with skipping because that land you a sure fire F. Didn't get the grade I wanted and now I have to retake this class.
Honestly really wish I would have taken the W when I had the chance to. Her tests are hard and since she moves so quickly in lecture and has a very monotone, foreign voice, it's very hard to concentrate and learn. The homework is difficult on top of the tests, but she offers extra credit (ChemDemo) so DEFINITELY do that if you end up with her...
She's hard to understand sometimes, but if you ask her she's more than happy to help. Really sweet lady. She'll assign practice problems for your benefit, but they're not graded. You'll save money if you just buy the access code for MasteringChemistry since it has the eBook.
Dr. Kizilkaya is a really nice professor and always willing to help during her office hours. Her tests are really challenging, but you will adapt and learn to study properly. The homework is also really difficult, so expect to spend hours on each one. Go to class (10pts a day). Do the bonus! Brace yourself for the department final.
Dr. Kizil was an outstanding chemistry instructor! Never would I ever have any confusion about any of the topics covered in class, and if you did have a question, she was always more than willing to help. She would assign in class quizzes that she would give you the answers to before closing the submissions. Prepares u 4 the departmental final.
Dr. Kizilkaya is a very sweet woman and very willing to help you in her class any way possible. Attendance is part of your grade and she takes it everyday so do not miss or your grade will suffer. There is a large bonus project... do it. This is the only bonus opportunity you will have.
You will have Mastering Chemistry homework for a grade. It is difficult so try not to get many wrong or your grade will suffer. She is not impossible but you do have to study a lot. I only passed with a B because I went to chem tutor twice a week. Couldn't imagine what my grade would have been without a tutor. Tests are hard but much like review.
She is very sweet, but hard to understand. Take advantage of SI sessions!! They will save you.
She's very sweet and will help you if you need it but her lectures are extremely hard to follow and understand. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND GO TO CLASS! Homework makes up for a large part of your grade and it helps you understand. Takes attendance every day for a grade! Also do the bonus assignment! Boosts your grade by 5%
Dr. Kizilkaya is probably the best chemistry professor you can take at LSU! all of the people who wrote bad reviews probably suck at life and don't study. Her lectures are not super clear, but I teach myself anyways so its no big deal. HER TESTS ARE JUST LIKE HER PRACTICE TESTS! Do the hw, attend class she gives a question each class for grade.
She is very nice and super patient! Always willing to help, and she gives you the benefit of the doubt on lab reports. The midterm is pretty hard, but it's take-home, so you have time and resources to help you. She doesn't penalize for late lab reports, so long as you don't make it a habit. Learned a lot and had fun in this lab.
She is by far one of the best chemistry at the professors at LSU! As long as you go to class and do the homework you should be good, I ended up with an A.
She's really nice and tries to help you understand, although at times i was confused. If you want to pass just show up, do your homework and go to some of the SI sessions. Her class isn't hard if you put some effort into it, and she does give bonus work (you have to do outside of class; you'll see what i mean).
I really enjoyed her class. If you put in the effort and go to all of the SI sessions, there is no reason you shouldn't get an A in her class. She's very helpful in her office hours and really wants her students to do well. I never once opened my textbook. I would take her again, great teacher!
avoid her if you can. hated this class, i got a C only because i did the extra credit which is over 100 points. very heavy accent, and hard to understand. class is a must bc she does top hat questions everyday. tests are hard. if chem is for you take here, but if you have no previous knowledge, take another teacher. SI is very helpful
Dr. Kizilkaya is the ONLY chemistry teacher you should take at LSU! I see her reviews are bad & idk why. She has a slight accent, but I'm telling you that her tests are easier compared to every other prof at LSU! She doesn't try to test your ability to apply knowledge, she tests you on the process. Seriously, loved this lady! My fav. prof. at lsu!
If you want to pass chem1201 and you are not that good at chemistry, do not take her class! i had to drop her class and get a W. plus she isn't as available as she says she is.
Kizilikaya is a good professor but her tests are killer. You do not have to go to class but she has quizzes almost every class that are extra credit. Do well on everything else and the tests won't be much of a problem.
She is not the worst teacher to have, but she does not curve and the bonus is the in class clicker questions. There is a lot of homework, and they are usually harder than the test sometimes. It requires a lot of time dedication if you wanna pass with a good grade.
Gives bonus every day so go to class. Speaks with proper grammar but has a heavy accent. Doesn't curve any test not even the final unlike every other 1201 professor. SI was basically an unhelpful repeat of the class. You have to have a good basis of chemistry to do well.
If you want to learn chemistry really well but are okay with getting a B, she's perfect. Her tests are hard and I failled most of them, but she gives extra credit for in class questions and for doing the homework that I still managed to get a B in the class. She gives you very helpful notes that you can follow easily while she teaches.
Look up Professor Terrie White this is basically her as a chem teacher. 69.98 D+ she doesn't give you any breathing room. Also, 70% of the people in the class will fail the final. If you made A+-A- in all your other classes just expect to make a C- or D in this one.
Unlike most people here, I took her for the analytical lab. She was very clear on what she wanted, and welcomed all our questions. Midterm and final were straightforward. In addition, she was very sweet and still smiles whenever she sees me (I took her two years ago).
Be prepared to spend hours on homework which is due every Saturday at 9pm. Also be prepared to pay $25 for class notes, about $200-$250 on a chem book, and also $75 dollars for a mastering chem subscription. GO TO SI SESSIONS! Go to class because she does clicker questions most of the time that counts as extra credit. Be willing to teach yourself
In the beginning you will think that this lab is going to be a breeze then suddenly it hits you and everything is so freaking hard. It is near impossible to get above an 80 on the lab quizzes because they just expect you to know everything with no teaching involved. The labs themselves are easy and if you have a good TA they are fine.
On the first day of class I knew this was going to be a tough course. You can barely understand her. It's almost impossible to follow her in class. If you cannot teach yourself, then don't take this class with her as the professor. She is very nice, just a tough professor. I dropped the class after the second test.
Had a difficult TA who graded our lab papers more strictly than other lab TAs, but Dr. Kizilkaya did not curve our section's grades in the end like most other professors do. Avoid if possible.
Kizilkaya is foreign and has a strong accent, but it isn't too hard to understand her. She actually teaches the subject, unlike some of the other professors. She gives a lot of homework every week, but do the homework and go to class for the extra credit clicker questions and you'll be fine. Good professor altogether and knows her stuff
At first I absolutely hated this class and failed the first exam. If you take the time to look, she provides every single thing to set you up for success in this course: Notes for purchase, practice modules, practice problems, SI sessions, homework, bonus questions, and office hours to review exams. Tough course, but you actually learn if you try.
Dr. Kizilkaya is a wonderful professor for CHEM 2002 Analytical Chemistry Lab. She is available to help outside of the lab. Also, her TAs Emmanuel and Neepa were very helpful. This lab is fairly difficult, but it is definitely possible to get an A if you put in a lot of effort.
I hardly showed up as I could not follow the lectures. Pretty easy material and plenty of bonus is available. Lowest test grade is also dropped. Definitely not a hard class but there are easier chemistry classes available. Not a bad choice but not my first.
This professor is late to class, has a heavy accent, goes through slides without caring if the students have absorbed the information, and is an overall terrible professor who doesnt seem to have a great understanding of her subject.
Be prepared to fail every test , she will go through slides without even reiterating the topic she went over. You will need to go to SI Sessions and have a private tutor or you will not pass. I had to drop the class.
Average professor. She is kind and available outside of class, she also wants you to pass and can work with you to see what you're doing wrong and how you can improve (Usually it's student's study habits, alongside the broad scope of material). Attendance isn't mandatory but she has little "quizzes" which can help boost your grade up a bit.
Materials lady was rude and condescending to everyone. TA extreme lack of chem knowledge, gave us incorrect information daily. Inconsistent grading (points taken off for doing something, and points taken off for doing the opposite next time). Worst class I've ever taken, and I have a bachelors degree and have taken much higher level classes.
Dr. Kizilkaya's class is overall not bad. She gives practice tests and there's a bonus quiz almost every class. SI sessions helped a ton because I didn't get much out of her lectures and it is easy to zone out while she is speaking. She doesn't teach the material very well but gives you the materials needed to succeed. The final is departmental!!
The TA was great, but Dr. Kizilkaya did not round our grades like the other lab coordinators did. I was less than 0.1% from the next grade and she would not bump me. It is essentially the same course regardless of who the lab coordinator is - it is 100% TA taught. So take a professor that actually curves, even a little. So, avoid Kizilkaya.
The first test is always rough, if you go and talk to her she will give you all you need to excel in her class. she is very approachable and always available to meet because she wants us to do good. She moves fast during lectures, make sure you bring the notes and take extra notes to make sure you get it. Bonus are offered and can help out alot!
Overall, Dr. Kizilkaya is an okay professor. She goes through lectures really fast, so you have to be sure to take good notes and pay attention. The homework are pretty tough and take a while to do, but they help prepare you for the tests. The "quizzes" in class are extra credit and really do help your grade. With effort, you can easily pass.
Tests are impossible as she does a terrible job at explaining material during lectures. You are on your own if you take her class.
She is an absolute monster that doesnt curve any of your tests nor does she provide adequate bonus. Pop quizzes that are supposedly for bonus damage your grade the moment you get an answer wrong. Homework is ridiculous because of the fact majority of the questions given arent even on the test.
Dr. Kizilkaya's lecture slides are always posted on Moodle, and that helps greatly with learning the material if you get confused in class. There are many quizzes for extra credit. The tests are pretty challenging at times, but the extra credit and homework will get you through. Master the homework, and you'll have a good understanding for the test
Only got a B because everyone was failing and she curved everyone's grade. DO NOT take her. She goes through material quickly in class and her tests are HARD. Made two Fs, a D, and B on her tests. I make As in every other class and I barely managed to pass her class until she curved our grades. DO NOT take her class. Take another prof. Seriously!!
Dont take this teacher at all. She is the literal worst.
I would highly recommend taking this professor. She went at a good pace and offered extra credit in class almost every day. She assigned a lot of homework that you cannot procrastinate, but if you can do well on the homework you will be good for the test. The only thing is that she has a very strong accent and can be difficult to understand.
Shes a horrible teacher. Her tests are hard with 13 questions which makes the grading harsher. Dont choose her you can barley understand what shes saying 99 % of the time!
Dr Kizilkaya may have been the worst professor I have had at LSU. She does not respond to emails, her tests are so small you can only miss 1 answer to get an A. Her lectures are very easy to zone out of and she makes very easy concepts seem extremely difficult, hindering students' performances. Her lectures are extremely slow. Take any other class!
She genuinely wanted her students to pass. I went to a lot of her office hours and she helped me go over what I missed on tests. I failed the first two tests, so it was really hard to bring my grade up from there. Your grade is mainly based on tests. You have long homework that'll take about 15 hours to complete and they didn't do much to my grade.
I took Dr. Kizilkaya's 1201 class over the summer session A, which I do not suggest or recommend if you are taking another class. I was taking 12 hours and I could not breathe. Every day there are assignments and weekends are spent reading and studying. It's doable and passable, but just wasn't for me. Therefore, I dropped and got out of Pre-Med.
Had pre-recorded lectures. Difficult to understand at times but the subtitles help. Multiple extra credit options. Easy to pass if you complete all assignments.
Dr. Kizilkaya was a very caring professor. The grade you get in the class definitely reflects how much work you put in during the semester. She made schedules for each week helping you organize when to watch the lectures, take the quizes, and do the homework. If you follow the schedule, everything goes smoothly. She was a great professor!
She was a pretty good professor, she was one of the better ones during the pandemic. Though she posted pre-recorded lectures, they were very well done and very organized. She gave us schedules for everything due so you shouldnt really miss any assignments. What you get in the class is a reflection of the work you put in.
Dr. Kizilkaya was an amazing professor! Because of Covid-19 I had to take her course online but it was very organized and structured to where I always knew what was due and when. And she also offers extra credit if you come to class practice exams before the actual tests which are really helpful. Also make sure you go to SI sessions!
An AMAZING teacher I wish I could take her again. She is very organized and prepared. She has a schedule telling you when to watch the lectures, do the homework, and quizzes. If you follow the calendar and do the study guides you should do well. You get bonus' for doing recitation sessions and getting an A+ on homework. She really cares.
shes been very helpful when i reached out to her. shes always responded to my emails. she genuinely wants to help u and make sure you pass. the material is mot easy but if u attend the SI sessions and reach out to her youll be fine
she is by far so strict and would not raise my grade by one percent. Depending on the TA you have your grades will either be good or really bad.
At first I was nervous about taking her class but now I am so happy that I did! I took her class online. She has all due dates structured for you & amazing study plan implemented as well. If you are organized and keep up with her schedule you will do good! She also offered a lot of extra credit opportunities as well. Amazing & would take again!
Professor Kizilkaya is one of my FAVORITE professors at LSU. She gave a clear schedule for the entire semester, which outlined due dates for quizzes, homework, tests, and extra credit opportunities. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EXTRA CREDIT! Each homework assignment can get 10pts back and she has chances to receive points back to your OVERALL GRADE!
Loved this class because my TA was great! She doesn't curve or round up grades, but honestly you don't need it. Also, don't take this until you finish CHEM 1201 and are currently in 1202. If you don't, it will make the class so much harder.
This class was practically a Stats class. There were so many quizzes. I mean almost 2 a day. Her lectures are confusing and she doesnt go in depth on how to solve problems, which the quizzes ask for. You barely have time to learn the math before being rushed to do quizzes. And outside help seems to be completly nonexistant. Perpetual Stress.
I really recommend her if you aren't good at chemistry! She explains things so well, even better than my statistics prof at the time,,,lol There are 2-3 quizzes per week and homework, so it's definitely assignment heavy. But she does drop like 8 quizzes and the exams are so much like the hw and quizzes it really helps!
Do not take her for chem 2001. This class is insane and she does not help at all. You cannot understand her at all during class and she goes lightning speed through the slides. She mumbles and does not speak in complete sentences. The notes are all over the place and it is very unorganized. Very hard to learn the material
no. dont take. she told me i shouldnt have a job because chemistry was more important, then said my other classes were not as important. Her homework assignments take usually 4+ hours to complete and there are 5 attempts on each question but every time you use an attempt, it takes points off your grade so you better hope you get it right first try
Love this class. I bombed one test and still got an A. Test are somewhat easy if you understand what's going on, and I studied the day before for most of them. She's so nice and will take time to help you with anything if you ask. TAKE HER!
Kizilaya's Chem 1212 lab is unforgiving. You will put many hours of work a week for seemingly no return. She will not give you one point extra.
Don't take her if you can avoid it. She's nice enough, but the way she grades is awful. You can get every question correct, but if you don't conform to her phantom expectations, you will lose up to 50% of your grade due to her nitpicking. The course is ridiculously easy, she just makes it way more difficult and time consuming than it needs to be.
The lab reports are like a guessing game. You will calculate so many different things in each lab report and she will not give any formulas or anything to steer you in the right direction. Also grades lab reports very harshly, I try to answer everything to my best and i still got 60s. Midterm and final are incredibly difficult and weighted heavy.
If you take Funda you're only taking her for the vibes, her grading scale can be a little wack compared to other chemistry courses and her exams are typically around 12-14 questions so the margin of error is not much.
Very kind instructor. Grading is very unclear and there is no feedback on the quizzes so you are left not knowing how to correct your mistakes. Midterm and final are based on lab quizzes but you are not given graded labs until the day before the midterm or after! Overall, an interesting class and fun experiments, but the grading will kill.
Just a warning, the exams were nothing like the book. Her lectures were fairly difficult to follow but she will work with you outside of class however she sometimes has difficulty explaining her reasoning behind correct answers.
All of the CHEM1212 material including exams are the same. Dr. K does not curve. A couple of my friends have different professors and they are not receiving curves either. The class is heavily weighted on the midterm and final (50%). Dr. K is extremely nice and accommodating.
She's incredibly caring and helpful outside of lab. The lab reports aren't bad but the questions you had to answer were crazy. I was in the dark sometimes. She's also such a tough grader for the in person midterm and final (Spring 23). There's also no feedback on the quizzes because they're on Moodle. I learned a lot, but it was tough.
Dr. K was an amazing professor to have in chemistry. I took both her CHEM 2001 and CHEM 2002 courses. Extremely helpful and always available in her office. Go to her to get explanation on her practice problems if needed bc the book is not helpful for that (lab and lecture), amazing teacher, she went fast sometimes in lecture, do not be intimidated.
Dr. Funda is a sweetheart and made this lab really enjoyable for me. I would've done way better in this class had I put more effort into the midterm. Go to her office hours!! She also has a lot of guidelines for how to write the lab reports on Moodle. If you follow it, you should be fine as far a lab report grades.
Dr. K is fantastic and clearly knows her stuff. Her grading scale is very forgiving, and its pretty hard to get below an A in the class as long as you do the homework and pre-class quizzes. She offers a good deal of extra credit throughout the semester, most of which serves really well as exam review. Definitely would take again!
If you have to take both lecture and lab, you need to take Dr. K. She teaches the lab and is hands on, and you will learn the same stuff in the class and in the lab, so it makes both classes easier, if you take the other prof. for lecture, you will not do as well in her lab. Great prof. loves her job, and will help you if you ASK her, go to her!
She's great tbh
so many bonuses esp if you show up to class and do the study modules (hence my a+); also has practices exams which are the same as the exams with different values. not hard, dont be scared, just apply yourself and study.
Dr. Kizilkaya as a person is fantastic. Very kind and will help/work with you at office hours. As a professor... not the best. I took AP chem in high school, so I already knew some of the topics, but she teaches them in confusing ways. Get ready to spend a lot of time on youtube watching the organic chemistry tutor.
She cares about her students and will ensure you understand the material before you move on. She does learning catalytics questions and dynamic study modules on Pearson for bonus, so even if you bomb the test, it is still possible to make an A. She does not curve the exams, but if you study for at least 3-4 days in advance, you will be fine.
If you know basic high school chem tests 1 and 2 are a breeze. Gets a little hard at test 3 but if you do her study guides ahead of time and know how to do the math-- which is basic algebra-- then you are golden. Shes amazing and so caring, she wants you engaged. I wish I could have her for all my chem courses.
This lab takes a lot of effort, but she is very accessible for questions and even flexible if she can tell that you are doing your best. Just do not underestimate the time commitment of this lab, each lab report was 8+ pages for me and took hours. She's a cool prof too, would definitely take her again.
Dr. Kizilkaya is extremely kind and truly wants you to succeed in the course. She does take participation at the end of each class that is included in the overall grade for the course, though you can afford to miss some classes. She provides slides of notes that she goes over in class. Her exam review lectures are a lifesaver.
