He is a bad and rude professor
His is a very bad professor. Rude and inconsiderate! Only talks about videogames! Avoid him if you don't like videogames because thats all you talk about and write about!!
Very funny professor. Tries to relate to students on their own level. I didn't find him rude at all. Rather an odd sense of humor, but he knows what he is talking about.
I don't think it's normal to have him for a 101 class since our original teacher died a week before class began so he was teaching this class last minute. He is a huge gamer nerd but he's funny. I thought he was super easy. All we did was write 3 papers the entire class that were only 2 to 3 page long. He's scary at first but actually nice.
Awesome Professor. He is hilarious in a sarcastic way. If you rewrite you paper to his notes and comments you'll get a good grade. Ask for help.
I was greatly disappointed in Professor Williams. I love English, and was looking forward to this class, but was left with a new found hatred for writing. I don't feel I learned as much as I was expecting to. Each time I went to him for help I was left
grades hard, is hard to understand his expectations for papers.
Very funny dude. scared the s*** out of me the first day, but then I realized that that was his sense of humour(it's hard to explain). Definetly take his class
Overall, a nice guy. Very funny and sarcastic. One weird thing I noticed was he always has a pepsi in class with him. Difficult to approach with questions and a hard grader, but I've learned a lot. If you enjoy a challenge with a sense of humor as a bonus, take him.
I agree with alot of the comments. It is hard to guess how he is going to grade a paper, but once you get that down, its not a problem. He has an awesome attitude and weird sense of humor which helps him relate to his students. Hes prompt in returning emails or setting up appointments if you need help. seriosly, take his classes!
didnt like him
Not a fan.
MEAN & RUDE! I was actually excited to take an English Class because I love to write. This guy basically ripped apart everything I wrote in a really rude way. If you ask him for help he basically makes you feel like an idiot. The most unhelpful, arrogant prof I have ran into in all my semesters at SP. He is a prime example of why you should ch
I had this class about two years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Williams' cynical humor. His intellect and attitude were very attractive. I wouldn't mind running into him again some day and challenging his ridiculous libertarian ideas.
Can only miss 2 classes then ur grade starts to go DOWN, if you don't pay attention to him in class he gets PISSED because he thinks he knows EVERYTHING. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. Writings required every day from your books, really ridiculous class.
I absolutely loved Dr. Williams. His course was the only one in which I was truly enlightened all semester. The analogies, visuals and stories he uses to illustrate various literary movements is genius. This was one course I did not mind paying for. Leaving for his class every day was like going to the movies. I was always entertained.
Take this guy.
Professor consistently shows up 5-10 minutes late for a 50 minute class. Very unprofessional. Also, he takes daily written attendance. I like not being treated like a child, thanks.
Prof. W. is extemely intelligent and entertaining. He is consistently late for class, but is lenient to students as a result. He lives for outside interaction and is always kind and courteous to students. A tough grader, but a great human being. He really knows what he's talking about. Take him, and you will get your money's worth.
Doesn't teach you a thing, just expects you to know all the rules of writing. Doesn't offer helpful feedback, and rambles on alot. He always smells like cigarettes so I'd advise sitting in the back row if the smell bothers you.
Nice guy. Very considerate. Tries hard to work with different students' needs and actually knows what he's talking about.
Excellent Professor...if you want an English prof to hold your hand to teach you how to write..he's not your guy! I never missed class, too interesting. Always helpful, a kind man
I thought prof. williams was a pretty cool guy. He does ramble alot and shows up late every now and then but he makes class interesting. if you don't write well do not take him thought because he will rip your papers to shreds, so if you can't take critism don't take him either
Very entertaining class, but his examples are very unclear and he gets off track easily. Went to him for help on papers several times but often walked away even more confused than before.
Outstanding professor. I'm not an english major but after his class, I wish I was. Very intelligent and knowledgeable. Entertaining. Show up and participate and you should do well. Must know how to right an essay or grade may suffer. A very real person. I wish he taught more classes on campus.
Really entertaining as a lecturer. This class was about violence in literature and film. 3 exams throughout the semester that are painful to take and one big 10 page thesis at the end of the semster. He's an extremely smart prof and wants students to succed. Very easy to work with and I LOVED HIS LECTURES. Daily routine (Movies or discuss readings)
This professor sucks. Do not take him unless you are on your death bed. In fact, just die. It will be far less painless and so much more fun. :)
He is the type of professor who it is obvious that his goal is to push people through the class and he does not really seem to care about his students very much. He is very flat out and somewhat harsh in times. Hard essay grader. The difficulty level for his 102 class is higher than my roommate's english 150 class. I would not recommend him.
while he may be very knowledgable, he is not a very good professor. He always smells very strong of cigarettes, and also has bad breath. He is very strict on attendance... you can only miss one. and if you miss a class in which a paper is due, you get a zero on the paper. no exceptions whatsoever. even if you email it to him
He cares to much about looking cool in front of his students but he has impeccable taste in literature.
If you rely on positive feedback, don't get offended by him because you won't get any but it's not his job.I will say he cares too much about looking cool in front of the students (like an Old West Outlaw) but if you talk to him,he is a typical conservative Prof living in the Midwest. I was hoping for more liberal Professors but he uses great lit.
DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS.
He sat pretzel style on top of his desk and talked about what ever he wanted for 2 and half hours, sipping Pepsi and taking smoke breaks. But, found what he had to say very interesting. He's smart, a little crazy, and very weird, but would have loved to take a 300-level class with him I think.
Excellent professor with good mix of contemporary, intriguing discussion and classical literary analysis. Very helpful if approached outside of class.
Loved this Prof. As long as you know what a THESIS is you will do good in his class. His essays are a bit difficult, but if you take notes, and actually LISTEN to what he is saying, you will do just fine. One of the only classes where a prof. wants to engage in a discussion and not just sit up front and talk the entire time. Loved his class.
HARD grader. Gets off track easily and always lets you out of class really late. Is not clear on what he wants out of a paper. Do not take him.
As an assistant manager where I work I teach people how to be the best versions of themselves and I really butted heads with this guy because of his lack of interest in the success of his students. I confronted him multiple times about this and the response I got was, "Deal with it". So it's no secret why everyone in the classroom despised him.
He's not going to hold your hand and take you through his class, don't expect it. Be ready to engage in discussion. Dr. Williams knows his area.If you can write a thesis and back it up you will have the basics for your papers. His lectures /readings just increase the interest level of the class. Not for those looking for an easy grade.
Good writing instructor 1-on-1, welcomes conversation, but overall blunt and unforgiving. He doesn't coddle anybody. Don't take it personal. Works too hard on his image. Can be intimidating. Talkative. Knows his stuff. Best advice: write clear theses and try to be original. I hope to meet him again someday and wish him well.
If you've ever had no idea what to write on a paper, because you're not sure what the instructor expects from you, you've most likely been in Williams English 150 class. He has a poor teaching style, and is too open about his extremely liberal ideology.
I had multiple classes with Dr. Williams in college. If you want a token easy grade, don't take his classes. If you want to learn how to write, and write well, he is a must. I write for a living now, and I'm good at it. I owe it to him. "Doesn't let you out on time"? Get over yourself. The real world does not run on your time.
He was easily sidetracked in my literature class and we often only were able to discuss one topic or area of the story before class was over. We fell behind right away. His exams are difficult and rushed.
This class was very difficult to follow. There is no clear guideline for how the exams are going to be layed out. His grading scale is confusing and class is ALWAYS going over. He is friendly enough, but I would not take another class. I don't feel like I know what I am supposed to take away from this class.
He is a very interesting guy, and a very good professor. He definitely loves what he does. There is a LOT of reading, and the tests are difficult unless you are a very good writer. I do recommend him though!
I enjoyed this class! He was a wonderful teacher. The people who did poorly in this class obviously didn't show up or they didn't listen. If you listen to what he has to say, take some notes, and show up you will do just fine. Will definitely be taking his classes again.
I really struggled in this class. In class he often discussed the retoric of specific essays but did not explain how to write the papers well. No rubric was given. It was hard to know what to do to raise your grade. He was willing to talk to me outside of class, but after talking to him I was more confused about what to write than before.
Show up and take tons of notes and you'll do great. Found his discussions to be very intriguing, loved to go to this class. For the essays, just write them with a proper introduction and ending with thesis and you'll be set.
Prof. Williams is easy to talk to both inside and outside of class. Since I only had class once a week, the work was difficult because due dates were stacked up for each week and made it difficult to get feedback before the due date. He grades very hard, I failed but it was my fault, not his. Communication is key! I would recommend this class!
Awesome teacher! :) Is so funny!
He is good at relating anything to a life experience that helps define what is being said. Tests are rushed and difficult and graded harshly. I never knew how to get a better grade. We had to turn in a thesis proposal for a final paper. He basically called mine complete garbage in front of the whole class without telling me how to fix it. Unhelpful
Overall nice person, but as a professor no. He's not clear on what he wants for essays. Exams are rushed and harshly graded. 8-10 page paper with absolutely no guidelines to help direct you. Didn't tell me how I could fix the thesis and doesn't seem approachable to ask for help.
If you have ever had a class which you didn't know what your professor was asking for, this is it. Very confusing directions and often times rambles about non-sense instead of giving you your instructions. Very long. Yet, he does help you on how to write an research paper.
Williams is so awesome to listen too. He doesn't keep a clear direction, but he leaves things open for your own interpretation as most literature classes do. He is VERY approachable and helpful and has helped me on countless occasions. He knows he is confusing so that helps when you talk to him as well! Love his classes!
Williams is hands down the best teacher I've ever had for English. Although he is an extremely tough grader, he goes over everything SO well in class and is always willing to help out if you have questions or go to his office hours. Hilarious teacher, who really knows his topic thoroughly.
Prof. Williams is crazy smart and if you don't know what he is asking for you are screwed. If he reads your paper he will tear it apart and tell you everything that is wrong with it. However this guy really knows his stuff. He's a tough grader but really funny and will help you if you ask for. Really will become a better writer in his courses.
Dr. Williams is awesome! His class is harder than your average 100 level class--but by no means was it difficult as far as college classes go. He expects writing at a college level and won't gloss over stupid writing errors which irritates students who produce slop papers. This course WILL make you a better writer. One of my favorites!
Christopher Williams was one of the hardest professors I had my freshman year. He may be more suited to conduct classes with upper level courses. It's ironic that he was obsessed with clear and concise papers when he was the complete opposite in his lectures. He would go off on tangents and stray from direction for most of the class. DON'T TAKE HIM
I tried my hardest in this class. i have never gotten anything below an A in an English class. This guys is a ridiculously tough grader. Avoid this teacher at all costs. He ruined my 4.0
He's an extremely intelligent man and he definitely knows his stuff. However, his lack of regard for respecting students makes him come off as pompous . He's funny, don't get me wrong, but he will tear you apart if your opinion is different than his, which in turn reflect your paper grades. He should simply be a critic, not a teacher.
He's a great person and a cool adviser. But you do not want this guy as your professor. This guy will down-grade people if they don't agree with his opinions or he doesn't agree with yours. He also goes off topic so you might not get a good lecture or decent notes. One good thing is he always picks interesting stuff for you to read.
He's a very interesting person, and I'm sure outside of class he's a really fun guy. He's the toughest grader I've ever encountered and doesn't give great feedback. This was my hardest class, and my final grade really reflected that. I recommend taking this course with another professor if you care about your GPA.
He's a strange and awesome man. You wouldn't think a freshmen comp. class could be very interesting, but his discussions and lectures were always so. If you don't mind a challenge, it's a perfect situation. He has high expectations for papers that may surprise people just out of high school, but he's approachable for help and quite fascinating.
He is the hardest teacher I have ever had in my entire academic life. I would recommend going to his office hours, because he isn't a clear grader and it helps if you go. His lectures are really long and he goes off topic a lot. Make sure you take notes. Avoid this professor if possible.
If you want to learn about the different forms of violence in literature and film, like violence and maturity or violence and law or violence and self, he's great. But do not take him if you want to learn how to write a analytical paper, which he requires at semester's end, as he is not very clear and often not very helpful.
English being my favorite subject I went into this class thinking I would enjoy it. Nope. Williams made me feel like I wasn't a good enough writer which was disappointing to me. I was afraid to even read any of my writing out loud or to get my grades back after a paper was due. Overall the class was long and he's a tough grader and kind of rude.
Professor Williams is, as many other reviews will note, a very interesting/ knowledgeable guy. He goes off on tangent which makes discussion interesting... unfortunately, it also has nothing to do with the exams. If you are a natural at romanticism, take him. But if you need a little guidance to the deeper meanings of a work, he will not help you
Gets off topic during lecture, though his stories are interesting. Very tough grader and has different opinions on your writing depending on the day.
I was the only non-English major in the class. If you let him know you have problems understanding the materials or the lectures he will help you. Yes, he's a tough grader and assigns lots of reading but in the end he's my favorite lecturer at UWSP. His writing prompts are very broad and open ended (which is a blessing and a curse).
Monotone and constantly jumps from one thought to the next without transition. Does not explain assignments well and will end sentences without finishing the last word.
He is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He does not give constructive criticism, he gives criticism that completely degrades you. On top of that, he is horrible at clearly explaining things and is constantly going off on tangents during class. I used to love English. He has taught me to hate it.
Ignore the hate from ex-students who were shocked to have someone who didn't handle them with kid gloves. He is a fair grader who will make you a better writer if you pay attention. He is tough when needed, but is very friendly and easy to talk to. Ask for help instead of whining. He is one of the best and most interesting in the whole department.
Do not take his class. Horrible professor. Constantly gets off topic, his comments are funny at times but has nothing to do with class. He is NOT clear with his assignments. Does not use D2L, at all. Is very difficult to approach. I felt personally attacked during a conference. Please find a different professor.
Funny and easy to listen to. Doesn't always have complete thoughts. Doesn't give much criteria when it comes to papers, but strict about citations.
He is a very unique.
I really enjoyed being in his class. He definitely expects a lot from his students. However, the experience that you will get from his class is amazing. He is one of the very few professors who will challenge your knowledge. Take his classes knowing that you will need to put in effort for an A.
His lectures were more like discussions. Very open to questions and meeting outside of class if you need it. Goes over a lot of content, and if you bring up video games you'll likely distract him for the entire class.
Professor Williams is a challenging grader, but he pushes you to improve and be a better writer. Very willing to meet during office hours. He loves what he teaches and knows a lot. He also has a pretty good sense of humor which is important when you're buried in post modern poetry.
Read at home, have group discussion/lecture about it in class, then take 3 exams. This is all the class is. No homework, no D2L, no pop quizzes, no in-class writing. Participate, attend class, and write essays for exams. We read 2 books (Maggie and The Scarlet Letter), 4 essays, 6 short stories (5-30pgs), and 3 collections of poetry.
He is an interesting person. He is a very tough grader and expects a lot. His feedback is repetitive at times and it can be hard to determine how to improve. He is a very engaging speaker and encourages discussion. Overall, if you participate, ask him direct questions for guidance, and follow his advice you will succeed. He drank Pepsi every class
A nice enough guy, but very unclear what he is looking for on tests/papers. Very few guidelines that leaves it confusing. Lectures were very lectury and often got very off topic/side tangents that were pointless. If struggling, go talk to him right away, don't wait to see if the next test will be better than the first.
He's an interesting guy to listen to when he's lecturing. Very tough grader and does not give very good feedback. Told me in front of the whole class that my paper was bad. Seems like a nice guy, he drank lots of pepsi and always had breaks in class so he could go smoke.
Hardest class I have ever had, only grades are from in-class essay exams and a final paper. Gives literally no feedback with no grading criteria so you don't know what he's looking for. Even going and talking to him leaves you confused. Super knowledgeable person, but not necessarily able to teach ideas clearly.
I really enjoyed lecture, he would tell many stories and keep everyone in the class entertained, but many discussions we would have would go off-topic. Class would end up taking longer than the amount of time it should be. Not only that, but he is a very tough grader and does not make it clear what he wants from your writing.
Absolutely horrible. He's late to class every day and class always runs long. He is arrogant, long-winded, and has no clear expectations for assignments. Even the feedback he gives you on papers is vague, seems like he just pulls grades out of thin air. Almost all his lectures include tangents about video games or how great of a writer he is.
Had to report him and forcibly be moved to another class. I told him that the essay we were meant to discuss was a trigger (a paper about sexual harassment that ends with "women should deal with it if they want to be respected") He told me to drop the class if I couldn't handle it. "This is the base of liberal arts" he says. I'm a bio major creep
Prof Williams doesnt care about his students. He is constantly late to class and then will run class late. Will go on tangents that have nothing to do with what were learning, which gets us off track. Expects so much out of a Freshman class.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Expects a lot out of a freshman level class. He's really rude and doesn't give good feedback. I'd recommend not taking him for any English courses, if you can.
Prof Williams is an extremely tough grader and gives hardly any instructions, no rubric, and no feedback between rough and final drafts. The entire semester is bases off of four essays. He rambles during his lectures and overall is not very helpful. Do not take him if you can help it.
His teaching is lackluster at best. Though humorous at times, his unnecessarily tough grading and lack of rubrics makes this class an absolute 50/50 whether or not you pass. In addition, a total of only 5 assignments make up your cumulative grade, making the room for error virtually zero. As an entry level college English class, it is far too hard.
Although he can be funny at times, he is a horrible teacher. He teaches it like a 300 or 400 level class. He is confusing and never gets to the point. There are only 4 papers for the class, the last one worth more than the first 3 combined. I wish I could go back in time and choose a different prof. I do not recommend.
Yes, Chris is the most difficult grader Ive ever encountered but I have to admit I learned a ton from this class. If you are looking for an easy pass, I do not suggest this prof. His lectures are heavy, but they always have a point. If you ever struggle, he is more than willing to set up office hours. Definitely a difficult course, but worthwhile.
In class he rambled a lot and then barely had time for lecturing about what we were actually there to learn. His feedback wasn't the clearest and he would either repeat himself or go on tangents. Not the most helpful and his lessons were pretty confusing. He expected us to know everything beforehand and taught as if we had taken the class before.
While he can be funny sometimes and crack jokes, it gets less funny when the entire lecture is 95% him talking about random things that have nothing to do with class. We barely get through any of the material. He gives no rubric, and grades harshly given that we have no examples. He's always late to class as well. He's a cool dude, but not teacher.
While the material is interesting and he is amicable and approachable, he is somewhat inaccessible and doesn't use Canvas because he doesn't like it or something. This makes it really hard to keep track of assignments, and while he does hand out a loose paper rubric with dates on it, he assigns things that aren't on said paper.
I really enjoyed this class! As long as you read the assigned works and listen to the lectures, the exams aren't too bad. Professor Williams always has interesting lectures and adds in entertaining, personal stories.
Prof Williams is very easy to get in contact with. He is always willing to help clarify things if youre confused and will work with you to make sure you have a quality paper. He can get off track at times and can be a little harsh with grading. Overall the work you put in is the grade youll get.
This was the worst teacher I've ever had. Lectures were absolutely pointless, most of the time he talked about something completely irrelevant to whatever awful book we were reading. All the books cost me over $100 and couldn't be bought back because he doesn't repeat books. Gave zero feedback on exams which were the only grades.
Taught like an upper level English class, not freshman level. Rambled on - a waste of my time from 6:30-9pm. Didn't learn anything, expected to write 3-5 p. papers every week with little guidance. 8-10 p. paper at the end. Didn't use a rubric or anything for grading, gives you the grade he feels like. Very hard to see where you lose points.
Very funny guy, but a terrible teacher. Your grade is made up of 5 papers, the last of which is over half your grade. This allows no room for error. Does not use canvas/printed rubrics, his expectations are communicated to you 98% verbally. Unless you're a very strong writer to begin with do not take this class. Way too much for a 100-level.
Professor Williams was a very hard grader and gave little feedback on papers. He expected all students to know exactly what he wanted from us instead of giving helpful suggestions. There were 4 papers throughout the course but the final paper was worth more than the other 3 papers combined. Overall, did not enjoy this class at all.
Dr. Williams, although very entertaining at points during his lecture, is an adamant professor. Like many others have said, his way of grading is mainly up to his own interpretation. His feedback is not explicit at all. A tip for those willing to be put into his class would be to ensure your thesis is abundantly clear and blindingly obvious.
Chris Williams is an okay guy-- not a good professor though. His ENG150 class is CRAZY hard! I was always good at English but now that I am in his class I am rethinking that. You are graded on 4 papers plus attendance, so make sure to show up. He doesn't give out a rubric so you have to prepare to be wrong. Avoid taking classes with him if you can.
I am a straight A student normally, and this class immensely reduced my GPA. There were no assignments besides biweekly essays that were due, but with no rubric. There was no way to gauge how he would be grading the papers and he would often give criticisms that could not be used constructively. He talks a lot, but rarely includes anything useful.
worst class in my life. I get all A's and when I got my grades back on one of the 3 total assignments in the whole semester, I went to him for help and all i got told was "you did not do good, you did average" never take him. he also said things he shouldn't have. he brought the bible and religion into class A LOT
Coming from someone who usually receives A's and enjoys hard professors, this was the worst professor I have ever had. Dr. Williams is a hard grader and isn't consistent nor clear with what he expects from his students. The people who actually read the book and the people who SparkNoted their way through the class got the same grade.
He gives vague feedback that doesn't help at all. I'm usually a really good essay writer and he gives me a terrible grade with little to no constructive feedback. Beware.
I would have panic attacks thinking about going to his class simply because of how he treated the students. I have been a strong English student my whole life and he told me my writing was not even worth reading.
He switches up with what he wants you to do to the point that no one was doing anything right the whole semester. His grading is ridiculously micromanaging. He told us that hes not afraid to fail anyone because he gets paid either way. Doesn't grade above a D. 95% of my class failed.
Worst professor I've ever had. This class was so insanely depressing-- 6:30 to 9:30 pm, no windows in the classroom, he comes in smelling like cigarettes looking like he'd rather be anywhere else, and talking so monotone/disinterested that it's hard to pay attention. He literally said he doesn't care if you pass or fail, he's paid either way. AVOID
He spends the entire class talking about batman and other random things. The amount of time spend discussing the readings we base our essays on, is less than 10 minutes per class period. Your grade is based off two exam dates where you have to write 2 essays in 1 hour and 15 minutes. extremely harsh grader. No feedback to improve
Terrible lectures. He doesn't cover anything more than the first few sentences of the readings, and then goes off topic for the rest of the. Acts like he's smarter than everyone else and is an extremely harsh grader. Beware the exams. It is incredibly difficult to get higher than a C.
Lectures did not help to prepare for the exams we had to write but attendance was mandatory. Exams were hard and long for the amount of time given. Felt that his explanations were not clear and made me more confused.
Unlike most, I actually really liked Prof Williams in this course. It was really lecture heavy but I generally found it interesting and he does grades hard but also outlines exactly what he expects as long as you are listening and willing to take good notes. He won't hold your hand through the course but that doesn't mean he's a bad educator.
Lectures were confusing and a lot of the times off topic. Exams and tests were difficult with not much preparation in class.
Worst professor I've ever had. Very hard grader. There's no grading rubric for the papers. Comments on papers were vague, and there is no clear indication as to what causes you to lose points on papers. In class lectures were very boring. If you don't consider yourself an extremely strong English student don't expect to get anything above a C.
Many people in the class participated when they were there, but they didn't show up often and failed the class. Prepared to be paying attention and the essays are handwritten in class. His lectures will drag and are not always connected to the reading, but he is pretty interesting so it's not awful if you look on the bright side.
I would not recommend taking this professor if you aren't an English Major. If you are, yes he is difficult and will humble you, but it will be good for you. He's difficult and tough, but that will strengthen your literary analysis and writing skills.
The class that I took with professor Williams was a 100 level course taught like a 300 level. He is a great person, but a very tough grader. There were very few assignments besides the papers which were very difficult and graded harshly.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. Do not expect to well in this class if you are not exceedingly strong in English. He is overly and unnecessarily critical. I have never had to work harder with little to no return. His class ruined my GPA and I strongly advised not taking one of his classes.
Worst professor I have had. Grades your paper on if he likes the topic, if he doesn't he gives a page of how much he hates it & how bad you are as a writer. His only tone is yelling which is painful to listen for a lecture where he isn't talking about the material. During office hours he yelled at me saying "why would you put this" and made me cry.
If you do not go to this class, you will fail. He does let you eat in class, but that's the only positive thing I can say. There are no rubrics and projects are poorly explained. Criticism is often and self contradicting. If you do end up taking this class, the due dates for the papers are rough drafts- the final paper is normally a week later.
He is very hard grader and his feedback is kind of mean so not for the faint of heart
He is an awful professor, does not use Canvas, and bases your grade on favoritism. He does not use study guides and you have to write essays on things in the textbook but he does not talk about specific things in the book. His lectures are all over the place and he can not stay on one topic. This class is useless if you need credit.
Tough grader, but engaging lectures. Use Unstuckstudy and the textbook to prepare - it really helps offset the harsh feedback. Not for the faint of heart, but rewarding if you put in the work.
Do not take this course if you are not an English major. It may seem easier because it meets once a week, but it's not. Professor is very strict about grading but his feedback is vague and confusing. He is grading based on what he would write instead of if it's good writing. In lectures he stands there and talks for hours. Never again.
Brilliant professor that demands work and brilliance from his students. People that complain about him probably missed the point. He is a hard grader but he is fair if you defend your points. He's not there to hold your hand, he's there to guide you if you're willing to engage.
A very difficult but rewarding course. He is a tough grader but his feed back is clear. Focus on your thesis, go to his office hours, and read his feedback. He's harsh but it will make you a better writer.
His feedback on the papers are very specific and difficult to apply to the next paper. There were 4 assignments the entire semester and he doesn't put anything in the grade book on Canvas, so you have no idea what your grade is until it's finalized. His lectures are pretty entertaining, just don't sit in the aisle or you'll be doused in coke zero.
He is an extremely difficult grader. He takes off a lot of points for minor things and in my class, we only wrote three essays all year so it was hard to improve if you had a bad start. But, he was very willing to walk through the critiques he gave during his office hours. Listen to the critiques/advice he gives and you will be a better writer.
Don't be nervous when you read his reviews, he's a great professor! He is very kooky/quirky, but it adds to the experience. There are 4 assignments—they can be difficult as he doesn't give rubrics and grades pretty harsh. He tells lots of funny stories, and always has a coke zero. don't be afraid to ask a question either, he is willing to help!
Fair grader for the accelerated course. Doesn't have a rubric and avoids canvas like the plague, but 4 papers over the course a semester + 2.5/wk lectures were super easy. I cannot stress how important going to his office hours is, . He's actually super fun and intriguing as you get to know him and he loves to yap for lectures.
Prof Williams is great. He's authentic and purposeful in bringing lectures full circle. He's refreshing. He knows what he's talking about. Prof Williams is not interested in hurting your feelings, but he will tell you straight whether or not you were successful. Take Williams' classes if you want to grow as a student. Expect the grade you deserve.
DO NOT take this class. Beware he only teaches accelerated honors for English 150. We all tried SUPER hard and didn't get great grades. Save your GPA. Doesn't use canvas and no rubrics- just goes off if he likes you or if he feels like giving you a good grade.
