In my opinion, Dr. Kennedy is a very hard professor, but then again Chemistry is not easy subject matter. I would almost call him too hard, but he is trying to prepare students for Organic Chemistry, which is even harder. He does give some extra points to help alleviate his difficulty. Take him if you want to learn chemistry, not for an easy A.
He was pretty good, but he was late ALL (took during the summer) the time, which he made a big point about at the beginning. Anyway subject matter is moderately difficult, and he teaches well (as long as you keep up with the work you'll do alright.) Overall he's good.
good teacher but he will work u very hard. not an easy A only if u r already interested in chemistry
I was disappointed with this guy. His lectures were hard to follow. I would have liked to take someone else. I am not a slacker, but this guy made a moderately difficult class, difficult.
quite a bit of work. he gives lots of extra points when he randomly checks homework. Tests are a little tough but reflect homework. Tardy to class sometimes, and delayed test/quiz returns.
His class is not very easy but if you do exactly what he says (take notes, read, practice, etc.) you will succeed! I would recommend him. He's also a very friendly and nice person, unlike some other profs around here...
I really dont like the his teaching method. He's lazy and doesnt grade anything and has his TA's do everything!
Well I thougth this guy would be a really good teacher, boy was I wrong, dont get me wrong, he is a nice guys, one who tells jokes and stuff, but he really cant teach, you really have to teach yourself, hes basically a nice guy that cant really teach, his lectures are very hard to follow, because he expects you to know everything before hand.
He is HARD AS HELL! He doesnt give you enough time to finish your quizzes which is every week. His tests are horrible! He talks toooo much about NOTETAKING while he should concentrate on teaching class! IF I WAS YOU RUN!
Don't take this class if you want an easy A. He is always willing to help and the questions he does in class you will see on the test. Overall he is great a teacher.
Absolutely HORRIBLE. The class was easy enough, but it really wasn't worth anyone's time. He's excessively late, but expects you to be there on time. He's forgetful and will tell you'll be there one day and then doesn't show up so don't make any appointments to see him. OVERALL HE DOESN'T RESPECT ANYONE'S TIME BUT HIS OWN!
ALWAYS LATE and will call you out if YOU'RE LATE! He doesn't allow textbooks in class and certainly hates it when books are open. He didn't show up to 2 or 3 classes and wasted our time. He does examples which are almost exact on his tests.
chemistry was easy b/c i had Barrow for 1211 which was a joke so 1212 was a rude awakening. kennedy really cares about his students and invests time in getting to know them. i slacked off first 1/2 of semester, was failing, he sought me out talked to me and encouraged me and i ended up with a B. if you get to know him, i think it impacts ur grade.
This class was absolutely horrible, and so was his teaching style. Chem 2 is actually easier than chem 1, but he makes it hard. He is rude, and tries to be funny, and is very VERY vague. He will call you out if you come late even though he doesn't even show up to class sometimes. Take barrow if you can, he's a way better teacherkenedy skipssections
I thought Dr. K was a great teacher. He knew what he was talking about and had interest. Kennedy really took the time to get to know his students and actually cared about them. He will break things down if you ask and will help you out with your grades. You will definately learn some chemistry and have some laughs. Overall, I highly recommend him.
As far as teaching chem, he is pretty good. The first time I could actually understand it. The bad part is his attitude when he has a bad day. You do not want to get in his way by asking questions or thinking he is incorrect about anything.
One of the worst learning experiences in my college career. He is awful.Slow to return assignments. Is illprepared. Does not respect students' time by not showing up to lecture. Makes careless mistakes when grading. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEDED!!
Although Kennedy wants to help students he overemphasizes rudimentary study techniques. Like most professors he has no time to answer questions. If you are not solid in chem. you will find him ineffectual. Get the ACS study guide immediately (to do well on the final), get a tutor (to do well on quizzes/tests) and do well in lab. It's worth it.
really good teacher, knows his stuff and very motivating..gives extra points just for trying examples from chapters(he randomly checks to see who did it)
Dr. Kennedy is a wonderful professor. He does expect you to look over the material before you come to class. He does sometimes get a little annoyed when you ask questions that interrupt the lecture. He prefers that you come to his office during office hours and get your questions answered. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM FOR Chem 1212.
I highly, highly, highly recommend him!! I had a horrible background in chem 1211 (but I didn't take Dr. Kennedy) and I went to his office hours and he was so helpful! I was scared coming into this class but it became my favorite class because of him! He encourages questions (for anything) and I still go to him for advice!!! AMAZING!
Dr.Kennedy is a JOKE he favors the students who kiss his A$*. He acts like chem 1212 is the key to life it self. he makes a semi- hard class impossible. he is always late to class and yell's at students for being late(get real). DONT TAKE HIS CLASS if you want to learn and pass the class without teaching yourself everything.
Easy teaching style. Most of the time he is LATE to class. You can get an A in this class, but to keep that A please study for the ACS.
Professor is well intended but is a very poor listener. He cuts off student questions regularly, vs. allowing their full inquiry on their terms. Some forego speaking and it's a shame for an academic, discovery environment. Like many professors cushioned by tenure, such traits are not correctable by powerless students and just persist.
If you don't mind a hypocritical teacher with a complex you can stand his class. His teaching is fairly clear, and lectures are good. He keeps your attention and his lectures apply to his test. Not a horrible class, but it does take some work. People who suck up do become his favorites. Teaching style is fair, he is annoying.
This professor is the worse professor I have ever taken. I use to love chemistry, until I took his class...He def favors students that are in his little clique. Don't go ask him any questions he does not listen at all.
Chemistry is hard. He teaches well. Study for the ACS if you want to get an A because its hard. It's easy to get a B because a test can be dropped and a few quizzes. He is funny and talks alot about how you can succeed in life. He is late many times but doesn't like it when you're late. He is very helpful during office hours.
Be sure to keep up with readings. Definitely a difficult professor, particularly because he times all quizzes and tests. I read, I understood the material, but the time allocated to the quizzes and tests is what made me drop the class.
He was very interseted in his students being sucessful. He wasn't a bad teacher but, you have to stay on him. He gave alot of extra credit also. So overall, a good teacher and he'll get you ready for organic
Nice guy and fun to talk to, but I had to teach myself the material for the most part. He didn't hold a single test review. The SI class wasn't offered until halfway through the semester. People were failing quizes but getting A's on tests and vice versa. On the plus side, the ACS was EASY after this class and I'm ready for organic.
I had him for lab and hes not that bad but he's really picky. He constantly gives lectures about how DEATHLY important it is to write down EVERYTHING he says and if you ask ?s about anything hes already gone over, hell give u a personal lecture of how YOU didnt write the stuff down and you werent paying attention. He definitely chooses favorites!
VERY MOODY. sometimes lectures you on things than give you a straight answer to your question but in the end he will get you what you're looking for. Gives a LOT of bonus pts. Make sure you keep up with all the hw problems from the book he assigns because he randomly collects for bonus pts. I did better on tests than quizzes. KEEP UP WITH READING.

Do not take his class unless you're a Chemistry master. Did not offer one test review and was not willing to answer questions as needed. Chemistry is a science that requires patience and skills to teach and answer questions for students and he will not do any of these. He does not like to work out problems on the board which is critical.
The Guy is a complete joke. He doesn't teach you anything. Literally in class one day he says "i'm going to teach you this equation." Writes it on the board and leaves. You teach yourself everything and everything he says is rarely on his exams. Do no take him.
Avoid
iv never had a one thousand level class give me this much trouble. He defianelty has favorites, bc they r all ass kissers dont ever take him do barrow
HORRIBLE TEACHER! IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE, CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!! TAKE MY WORDS FOR IT!
Nice guy, terrible teacher. In response to a students question he actually said its all theory and there really are no "right" answers. i never saw that option on the tests. basically you wont learn much from him. get a tutor.
Talks about his college days and how he used to be "SUPER COOL". Super cool my A**. He favors females. If you go flirt with him, I'm sure you'd get a descent grade. Honestly, I don't think his tests or quizzes are hard, at all. The class curriculum is fairly easy if you keep up. I just don't like his ethics! Oh yeah, he loves to brag about his phD.
I HATED Dr. Kennedy. He sucked as a teacher. If you can take someone else. He doesn't clarify anything, he often goes off topic, and he doesn't make any sense. I got a C in the class and I swear I only got that because of the lab. DO NOT TAKE if needing to get GPA back up either.
Dr. Kennedy was not a horrible teacher. His lectures are helpful but confusing at times. May need to refer to the book, but he covers what you really need to know. If you cant follow his lectures, read the book. You will learn a lot, and it will all click. If you dont like putting in effort, then you will not like the class. A+ is possible
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. He is absolutely no help , spends most of his time lolly gagging about and could care less about answering questions or teaching the material. No matter how much you practice and study his tests are impossible and ridiculous they are not over anything we went over in class and there is never enought time t
I loved the class. It was a bit hard, but if you put in the effort then you will get an A. The stuff he teaches makes sense. So just do what he asks and you will get an A.
Just wait til you hear the wiener dog joke. If you're as lame as him, you'll probably enjoy his class. At least general chemistry is easy. Don't bother going to his office unless you want to be lectured about something other than chemistry. He is late a lot but lectures students about tardiness. He even missed a test and had to reschedule!
Who ever is complaining about Dr. Kennedy obviously did not do well in his class. If you need help he will help you. I still talk to him and I am in Organic 2. So, if you want to do well, read and ask him EDUCATED questions or be ready to get lectured. It's your responsibilty too, not just the lecture teacher.
He's a goofball. I thought he was helpful and friendly.
I recommend everyone to not take him unless you are willing to read ALOT! His test questions are from the book not from his lecture or may not be from anywhere at all. He is a very nice guy but most of his lectures are about his life. If you don't know something he will not clarify it. Take him if you like self-learning. DO NOT if you don't.
do not take this teacher. he quizzes on the method he teaches, but he test on the book's material. his office hours are not helpful, he waste class time talking about his life;i spent the whole semester confused on what to study!!! terrible teacher!!! avoid!!!
he is a nice guy to talk to but he is a horrible teacher!!! his test are very hard mainly bc he hasnt taught a fraction of the material he test on, he makes the class harder than it should be! I had an A+ in chem1212 and a gpa of 3.9...why the heck did i get a D out of his class! i attended all classes did all homework! waste of my tuition money !
Even after doing the homework you will seriously fail the test. His test were hard because the questions he asked were ones never exposed to us in the first place. He gets annoyed if you ask anything and is not understanding when it comes to students not being able to learn the material based on his teaching skills! Don't take him!
Dr. K is a lousy instructor. He seems to think his way is the one way to teach, and to have no respect for students. When asked to clarify or review he would shout about how we should pay attention and he doesn't have time to repeat everything. The questions on his tests were only remotely like anything given before the test. 350 chrs is too short.
The main thing that bothered me about this prof was that it was his way or no way. If someone asked if they could work a problem a certain way he would strongly discourage it and basically enforce his way. Nothing wrong with that but whatever works best for the student should be used. If they don't use it it's their choice.
Kennedy was a great teacher. I aced every single test by doing what he advised, which was study a little bit every day or every other day. The course was not hard at all- it's general chemistry for crying out loud. People who are complaining about how hard it was and about the test just never tried hard enough. The tests were straight forward.
Class is really PERS 2002 but counting as PERS 2001. Such an easy class write on a half a page Double spaced paper twice a week. Only once do you have to write a double spaced 2 page paper. And it's all on YOUR opinion on articles that are assigned to write about.
As the other review said, pretty easy class. You have to write a half a page double spaced pro/con paper twice a week and just ONE double spaced two page paper on your opinion of a topic you choose. It's really easy. He really cares about his students. Says you can only miss 3 days but wasn't too strict about it. Gives extra credit
If you study a lot and work hard then you can take him. He talks mostly about his life. Give example and answer on the problem but doesn't tell you how to solve step by step. He wants you to read the book and solve it out before asking him . He won't answer your question until you figure it out so it a waste of time going to his office hours.
Save your money and your GPA. You've been warned
Absolute worst professor I've ever taken. He takes questions like an affront to his intelligence/teaching. He wastes time in lecture and office hours talking about HIMSELF. It's definitely his way or the highway. He's rude, aggressive, (supposedly) makes sexual comments to female students, & an UNPLEASANT man. Anyone else is better. Literally.
Kennedy is a great teacher. He expects you to study and understand material before coming to class, he only has 50min to teach a chapter so studying outside of class is necessary. Tests questions are very concept based and a little bit of equations But if you read the book you should be ok. I got an A and am not a rocket scientist by any means
He LOVES to talk (about everything, except whats crucial) He spent a great deal of time preaching about good study habits. Also, he stated that we should be able to learn the material without his help. That should tell you a lot about his teaching style. We relied heavily on the lab assistants for help.
You just have to study and come to class prepared, He pushed to be a better student, Oh yes he spends a great deal of time talking about other stuff, but he tries to use class time efficiently. He sets the bar pretty high though -_-
He is a very entertaining man, who rather counsel his students about life decisions than lecture on organic chemistry lab. He does simplify chemistry concepts to make it understandable for students, but he does not tolerate students who do not seek help. He has stories that he loves to share and is an easy A if effort is put forth.
Had him for lab and I would not suggest him for lab and especially not lecture. It's easy to see that he loves helping students and wants everyone to succeed but his lessons are unclear and at times confusing. He was a very nice guy and if you ever visit his office you'll see he loves what he does, but I would not recommend him as a teacher.
This doctor is extremely helpful! If you ask for help...he will help you! His lab instructions are a little vague but that's what TAs are for :)
I was in his lab class. He gave 1 quiz and 1mid term and 1 final. So its very hard to do well. He don't look for perfect lab work so most people get around 85 if you do ok in quiz and exams. I recommend to take someone else if possible if your not good at chemistry.
Dr. Kennedy is an awesome lab professor. He's a little intimidating, and expects a lot from you, but he is crystal clear about his expectations. He goes over the procedure in detail before you go to the lab, so confusion is minimal. I'd definitely take him again.
One quiz and the final exam is the bulk of the entire grade. Pretty easy lab, albeit I jacked up a few titrations here and there. He's not the most helpful, and he's very opinionated. If I had to do it again, I'd run away. I think there are others who could be a lot more helpful.
He was not very clear with his instructions. He is a very nice person however, and tries to be helpful. Take him if no option is available.
He is pretty annoying but the class was easy.
He was my 1211 lab instructor and I absolutely regret taking him. He is a good person and gives great life advise, however is really rude when it comes to asking questions in lab about something. His instructions are not clear and he does not like repeating himself. Your grade is based upon one quiz, an overall lab report, and the final.
Took the lab with him Summer 14. Tells you that he's helpful, but tends to devote more time to shifting you around to extremely busy TAs. This was my 1st time in a chem class since 2002, but I was able to stay afloat by asking other students who had other lab instructors about specific lectures. Keep a NEAT lab notebook, or you will get no help!
i honestly hate chemistry as a subject but he managed to make me like it a little bit. you have to go to class and or make sure there is someone in the class who will let you borrow their notes. He is always willing to explain things after class or if you go to his office hours & I honestly suggest going. Take his advice and you should pass
Very easy class, no exams or quizzes, grade comes from one project and the weekly summaries of articles that we had to turn it. Very inspirational in the aspect of getting your life together. Interesting class, if the dynamic of the students is right.
Amazing professor, very involved with how well his students are doing. Easy A if you just participate in class and show up. Also heard he is a excellent chemistry professor as well. He's great!
Dr. Kennedy is a very smart man but he is a not a very good professor at all. This semester so many students have gone to the chemistry department to complain about him and his teaching skills. The only reason he is still professor is because he has tenure at the school. Save yourself the heartache and take another professor.
WORST PROFESSOR !! DO NOT TAKE HIM !! you have been warned
Dr. Kennedy is intimidating at first, but he's a really nice guy, great teacher, and wants to see hard work from his students. Read every chapter until you're comfortable skimming. Always do practice problems from the textbook. He uses those as outlines for tests and quizzes. Great lectures. Ended up with an A-. Took the honors class (he curves)
To those who criticize him as a lackluster lecturer- get used to the idea that many professors will not run their course from presentations! He will come to class, unpack, and begin his lecture from his own personal notes. Exams are not tough so long as you've kept up with readings and make note from his presentations. Offers extra credit. SciFYE!
A nice guy but not a great professor. He runs his class like a high school class and plays favorites with his students. Read the textbook and do the questions. Also you must go to class! Honestly, just avoid him.
Easiest class ever. You have to read an article before every class and explain/ to the class what it was about( but you won't be graded on it). The discussions are very interesting and fun to participate in also. If you want an easy A+ please do not overlook this class! He also gives great life advice too.
So many students tried reporting Dr. Kennedy to the department, but he has tenure. Dr. K accused me of cheating on quizzes/exams numerous times during the course - I have never cheated in my life. It lowered my morale in a class that was difficult not because of content, but because is he a poor teacher and does not provide resources (PPT) to us.
Criticized entire class and lectured about study habits on daily basis. Gets irritated if the class asks 'stupid' questions. Worst professor. Saw people crying after his lectures multiple times. No test review. Also he teaches very incorrect significant figure practice. You teach yourself everything. Horrible professor, terrible teacher.
I was in his class for a day and thank goodness I left. Horrible teaching and talks as if he is a elementary school teacher. I asked a question about a concept and his tone was very condescending. There are way way better teachers than this guy. I feel good because I'm doing well in my current class that I transferred too....
I really like Dr. Kennedy's class, and him as a teacher. He wants to help you in chemistry but also in your academic career in general. He is approachable and friendly! When I took Chem 1211 from another teacher I had to teach myself everything- but Dr. Kennedy does a great job of covering all the material in class and making sure you understand it
Amazing professor both in and out of the classroom. The material in this course is difficult but if you work the practice problems and go to office hours with questions you will pass.
If you want to see pictures of Dr Kennedy from the 70's, if you want to be lectured about "time management" day in and day out, or learn ANYTHING BUT chemistry take his class. It goes to show you what tenure does to a man. So if you enjoy him figuring out the origin of your last name instead of learning, take him. Otherwise BEWARE!!!
Dr. Kennedy is a great person, but his teaching style made the class difficult for me. His lectures were kind of all over the place and I didn't get a solid understanding of concepts behind all the equations we had to know. My best advice is to use office hours and make sure he knows you're making an effort because he takes that into consideration.
You MUST carry your own weight if you want to be successful. In general, his lecture matches what is on the test, you just have to study it hard. The one thing that caught me off guard was the final. When he says it an ACS final, best believe it is which means there will be a majority of chem 1 content, content that was not focused on in this class
He is passionate about what he teaches and he offers a lot of office hours and review sessions. But you NEED to pull your weight and read the textbook or you will not pass the class. But he's really kind and dedicated to his students.
The professor himself is a pretty cool guy who makes jokes and answers questions, but the courseload itself is very extensive. The course is very fast paced, so missing one or two classes can lead to failed quizzes and tests. He offers opportunities for extra credit occasionally. The required text and homework access code are expensive.
HORRIBLE teacher, the work itself was not hard the problem was him. I got out as soon as I could because I couldnt deal with him, his lectures and study guides do not reflect the test and quizzes. His lectures are all over the place, no powerpoints just sloppy handwritten notes on a overhead projector. Stay FAR away unless you can teach yourself
If you want to hear stories and old fashioned songs and not learn anything and see him literally interrupt the middle of his lecture to tell someone to get off of their phone then be my guest otherwise stay far away from this professor please.
Kennedy doesn't post notes and lectures often on study habits and has people come come in and try to recruit you for army/clubs. He teaches from the book with quizzes every week. He is very adamant about coming in to office hrs/8am study sessions. Kennedy has a strict no electronic rule (ie laptop notes) and does Not like graphing calculators.
He is a horrible professor and teacher. He gives a alright lecture about his past life. He does a poor job teaching the content.
One of the worst professor. Bad attitude and Bad Style.
Not only did he not provide a syllabus, but he also did not give any clear or useful lectures. It was very difficult to learn material when there was no sense of direction. He did not prepare the class properly for the final exam and he didn't give any quizzes. His class was very frustrating and confusing. Don't take his class if you want to learn.
Never go into his office, you might never leave. He talks more about himself than the material. If he feels like you've slighted him, he will yell at you. He is narcissistic, aggressive and can never be fired. Him having tenure is the worst thing to happen to GSU. AVOID TAKING HIM AT ALL COSTS. You will learn nothing and struggle in your next class
Only took him for lab and it was absolutely awful. Talks down to students, provides zero help and information on the labs, and during the COVID pandemic, he made the transition to online miserable because never responded to emails. He once mocked me in front of the entire class because I asked a simple question. He makes you afraid to learn. Awful.
Kennedy is an impractical, inconsiderate professor. He will single you out and scold you any chance he gets. Sometimes he can be quite amiable, yet in an instant, he will become quite unfriendly. Academically, he is has been quite unprepared for graded assignments from time to time which is ironic because if you're ever unprepared he lets you know.
Kennedy is the worst chemistry professor to have graced the earth. He has tenure but does not even know how to email his students. He ghosted during the Covid pandemic and gave his students terrible grades instead of emailing them back. Not a good man.
hes a bad lab "prof" hes weird, singles u out, there were 3 hw assignments tht he threw at us and it wasnt in the syllabus and then he changed the syllabus mid semester. we have already taken finals and he still hasnt posted grades for the hw assignments. idek what my grade is in the class is b/c his entire icollege is blank. sucks at emailing back
If you're looking for an easy A then please take him for PERS2001. He doesn't really post anything on iCollege nor does he enter grades. However, the only requirements are 2 short summaries due every class and 2 PowerPoint projects due for the whole semester. As long as you show up to class and turn in your work then you should do well, easy class.
