Jesus...Ghandi...Lennon...Dylan...Fitzgibbons. Carries himself with a quiet dignity, much like former president Jimmy Carter. Taking this class is like looking back in time millions of years. Tony Robbins-esque students drive the rating even higher.

He is a great teacher for visual learners. He is very thorough, and will definitely make you apply what you learn. He could be considered difficult for some, but I would gladly take another class of his!

His tests make you think, but you do learn alot in his class. The tests come right from his notes. You need to attend every class for he has pop quizzes. I got a B in the class and I studied a lot for the exams. Good Professor, but you need to work.

I thought he was great. I worked really hard in this class and ended up with an 'A'. He was always there when I had a question or needed something explained deeper. It was a great class, I don't beleive I have ever learn more than i have in this class.

Enthusiastic, interesting. Great visual aids. Class not for students seeking easy A. Many concepts are abstract & require work to learn. Great use of analogies & visuals to breakdown complex material. Will gladly take his classes again.

Knows his stuff. Very good lectures, good descriptions. The tests arent that easy but the grading scale is forgiving.

It was a boring class. However, if you work hard, you can do well. You have to want to work for your grade.

Very nice teacher. If you did well in science class in Middle school you will get an a in this class. Material is presented in a very understandable manner. Homework assignments are very very unclear. He is one of the better astronomy teachers.

Lectures easy to understand in compairison with the book. He explains theories well and makes sure students understand concept before moving on. The homework was easy and did not take up that much time. Pop quizes over lecture notes so you want to go over. Tests are from notes and text readings

Bottom-Line, Take very little notes from the board. Don't read the textbook. Study only notes from the board. Tests are easy. Three tests all semester and a final exam. He will drop the lowest test grade. Easy A! Take Him!

All tests came right from notes on board. Explains everything clear. Like listening to the Discovery Channel. Definitley easy A!

Even though I missed a few days of this class I still studied my butt off for the exam, I was 1 point away from a C and he didn't give it to me of let me do extra credit for it, he's hard, but if you're willing to go to class and study lots you should be ok.

He is the two-faces kind of teacher, very tricky. You leave the class happily convinced that he'd do anything for you to understand the course, but when you get the tests... The tests are written very confusing, almost with hate for the students. So it doesn't matter if you understood the course because you will not understand the questions. :-)

He is not easy. Take notes that he gives you and read from the book. His test do make sense... You asks you questions that make you take what you learned and apply it. That seems logical to me. I have an A in that class, although it was not easy. Just don't expect it to be an easy grade. You must put in time outside of school to do well.

Knows a lot about Astronomy, and obviously likes teaching it. Take notes, pay attention, easy A.

everything is explained that needs to be just read the book and you will be fine. Class never ends early he always has plenty of material to cover.

Wow, I'm surprised at these comments. He must have been in a good mood this summer. I enjoyed his class. I got A's on all the tests, and I just studied my notes. He talked about some really cool stuff. He's a little nerdy, but who cares.

I took the 2 day a week class which usually equaled 3 hr lectures. The lectures were packed full of info, but tests were still difficult. He gives you the information to figure out the answer, but not the answer itself. Be prepared for some real problem-solving.

Not the greatest at teaching but the class is so amazing and interesting and he does a great job of keeping everyone on the edge of their seats.

I want to counter some of the other remarks: I found him very helpful and enthusiastic. He made Astronomy fascinating and explained in detail any questions I had for him. He's extremely knowledgable and loves the subject.

Good teacher, tests are easy as long as you study a little. Highly recommend if you want an easy A. NO HOMEWORK!!

Very boring class. Notes are easy and his tests are taken directly from them. Very easy class but was bored to death. He has a very dry/weird sense of humor and often laughs to himself while the class just sits there.

Spent a lot of time explaining things and make understanding the material easy but his test were much more difficult than expected. He was very patient when students asked questions, even when they were the dumbest questions any one could ever think of. Good professor but grading was surprisingly more difficult than expected from class experiences

I took intro to astronomy with Prof. Fitzgibbons in Fall of 08' and he is a really nice teacher! His tests are challenging but if you come to class and actually pay attention you will learn a lot. The stuff he teaches is very interesting and he makes it to where you actually want to pay attention. I would definitely take this professor again!

Prof. Fitzgibbons isn't the most charismatic of teachers, but he is incredibly patient and wants to make sure all his students understand the material. He uses very little math in this class, as opposed to Art Litka. His tests are short and, if you study your notes, are easy. Just attend class, take notes, and look over them. You'll be fine.

Prof. Fitz is a nice guy!! all these negative comments are prob from people who EARNED a bad grade. He is very patient and makes sure everybody understands before he moves on. He allows you to meet him after class to explain anything that you dont get. he is never in a bad mood and is just AWESOME!

Prof. Fitzgibbons is a nice guy dont get me wrong. . I signed up for oceanography thinking it would be an interesting class. He doesn't do many activities, a lot of monotone lectures that quite frankly bore me to tears! Be prepared to study A LOT his tests are very tricky you need to know pretty much EVERYTHING from the chapters.

HE IS AN OK PROFESSOR.HE IS KNOWLEDGBLE.HE KNOWS HIS STAFF VERY WELL,AND I CAN GRANTEE YOU THAT YOU WILL LEARN A LOT IN HIS CLASS.THE PROBLEM IS THAT HIS EXAMS ARE LITTLE BIT HARD AND ALSO VERY CHALENGING.HE NEVER GIVES ANY REVIEW OR SUGESSION BEFORE EXAM.YOU NEDD TO STUDY EVERYTHING.AND FINAL COVERS WHOLE BOOK WITHOUT ANY REVIEW.YOU HAVE TO STUDY!

I am really surprised by Prof. Fitzgibbons low ratings. He is a great teacher. He is always more than helpful if you have any questions. His tests come directly from the covered material, if you take notes and study them you will do great.

I took Astronomy over the summer, and I thought it was fun. We had a lot of people in class who were really smart and asked a lot of good questions. It was more difficult than I had anticipated (I thought it would be more about myths & constellations instead of thermal dynamics, etc). I was really surprised that I could learn that kind of stuff! :)

Fitzgibbons was cool & he answered all of my questions. His homework & his tests are not easy either.He makes sure that there aren't ANY questions before moving on to a new subject. Class was not just dealing with astronomy, dealt with light as well and others. I'd recommend.You MUST earn your grades.There are NO handouts.

An extremely hard class !!! His test or very hard and are worded in a confusing way. All there is to say is STUDY and STUDY, them maybe you "might" pass. I agree with someone else in the fact he wants you to live and breathe astronomy as he does and that makes it difficult. He only gives 3 test which allows no room for mistakes one bad and forget

Excellent teacher. He teaches a real college level class. The goof-offs in class gave him a bad rating because they weren't paying attention. The students who paid attention and asked questions and participated in the demos had no problems on the tests.

This teacher is very clear and willing to explain things. The only problem is his test are omega hard!if you want an easy A hahaha dont take this class.

Dr. Fitzgibbons is an excellent teacher, and his classes are fun. But you really need to read on your own and study. I had to work to get my C.

I LOVED his class, even looked forward to it. I took this class because it was interesting, but you have to pay attention, ask questions, that's what he's there for. He loves to engage w/ the students & we laughed even. I'd recommend Dr. Fitzgibbons to anyone wanting to really LEARN Astronomy. He cares about his students & wants them to learn.
