anyone know anything about him?
Nice guy, Gives way to may quizzes. Readings are ridiculous. give two papers. Definantly need to work your ass off in this class. Will help you though if you go to him for it.
This guy is impossible. The readings are hard, he doesn't even understand them sometimes. Follows the kirkenslager method which you know is bad. I wouldstay away
way to way readings.....quizzes once a week, 2 papers....1st paper was very hard to write didnt clarify what he wanted in class...uses the kerkenslager teaching method which can't be good....if u like alot of work then take Jacobitz
quiz every week that you'll have to do like an hour of reading for, 2 4 page papers... if you're willing to do the readings you'll probably be fine. not great, but seems better to me than all of the other theology teachers.
One word-Tool
This class is really difficult.. so much reading.. quiz every thursday... Too much info at once and you will responsible for all of it..
worst class ever, do not take him, seriously--i saw this wall last semester and i thought oh well it fits my schedule, take class on saturdays if u have to.
This guy is ridiculous. 100-200 pages of reading a week. six question tests that most of the time come from out of the blue. Papers suck, he failed everyone on it. Average grade for midterm was 60. Its ridiculous. You will have no life if you take this class you will be so busy.
Not a bad guy, just forgets we have lives. If you do the reading you u can get a B. You just got to put some effort into it
Not a bad guy, definantly knows what he is talking about. You have to devote alot of time to reading for a 6 question quiz which is very annoying. paper are difficult. You need put alot of effort into class and ull be ok
not a bad class. weekly quizzes on readings helped my grades. class is kind of boring bc he talks too much. he is picky about his papers tho and will rip u apart on them. tests are easy. not a bad choice tho!
easy B with no effort. just read- the quizzes definately help your grade. papers are a little tougher. puts up with rude ppl in class. hes a really nice guy. not a bad class and i have him for an hour and half. i'd take him again. good choice.
DO NOT TAKE, he is ridiculously hard, too much studying for theology, this class was harder than policy.
Don't listen to some of these people. He is a hard teacher, readings are ridicilous, quizzes same. His final was the hardest final i have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE HIM, You will waste your life away with this class.
WAY TO HARD for being a Ger. You waste ur life away with this class. stay away
This guys sucks. U will fail his final and 75 percent of his quizzes no amount of studying will save you
His quizzes were hard, if you didn't read, and the reading wasn't too demanding. Plus, he gave reading guides for every single reading assignment and if you were able to answer every question, then you would get a decent score on the quiz. AND he gave extra credit if you came to every class. I didnt miss one and I got 3% added to my final grade!
This man made me strongly doubt the existence of God. Given that he's teaching theology, he's clearly not doing something right. Condescending and arrogant above all else. Loves the sound of his own voice. Is an unreasonably harsh grader and not at all helpful. I wouldn't wish Dr. Jacobitz on anyone. Avoid at all costs if you possibly can.
a little overzealous
great man, very passionate about his job and religion- as a person a great guy but you will have to put alot of work into the class, i would take him again knowing that after the semester i will have recieved my moneys worth for a great class
Knows his stuff and is very organized, but pretty naive in many ways. The man doesn't realize that this is a GER course, meaning most of the students are in the course because it's required. With that said, giving 20+ quizzes during the semester is way too much, as is the amount of reading. Avoid if possible, but he's doable if you're out of options.
he is very enthusiastic but the class is still very boring. there is ALOT of reading and you have to read because there is a reading quiz almost every class. the papers are easy but the midterm and final are impossible
i spent atleast 1- 1 & 1/2 hrs preparing before every class. the readings were long and you needed to pay attention because there was a quiz almost every class on them. going to class was a waste of time; prof. jacobitz went on ridiculous tangents not pertaining to the material at all, but he took attendance each day so it was required. his explana
great teacher!!! very passionate and interesting. there is alot of reading but most of it is pretty easy to understand. the midterm and final are super easy, all multiple choice and mostly off of the quizzes he gives. yes you actually have to read for every class but it pays off i got an A by just reading, no all-nighters studying necessary
He is a good guy, if u ever have any problems all u have to do is go see him and he will be more than happy to help. class was really boring lectures, too much reading and quizes are sometimes impossible but if u put forth a little effort go to class and read u will get at least a B
This guy is so easy to rate. The bottom line is he's SUPER nice but SUPER hard. He goes through every class smiling with an optimistic attitude which is nice and refreshing. His class is a lot of work, however. If you do the work you can get a good grade but it's A LOT of work.
Jacobitz was good--SUPER easy if you just put forth some effort. The readings are pretty easy to understand, but there's a LOT. The weekly quizzes are annoying but good because they keep you on top of the material so you don't shoot yourself later for the midterm and final. He never stops smiling, which was good I guess, but odd
You have to read for this class and pay attention in class but you will learn a lot. All in all he is a really nice guy and is very helpful if you meet with him. Always smiling in class and never belittles or talks down to students. I would absolutely take him again.
He is really nice and always has a smile on his face BUT he loves reading, and expects us to love it as well! A LOT of reading, quizzes, and 4 papers. If you read you will definitely get an A.
definitely way too much work for a GER. go to his office hours before the essays to talk to him about yours and youll score significantly higher trust me
HARD!!! so much reading and so many quizzes. i read every week and still had a hard time on the quizzes. A LOT of work! do not take
HORRIBLE!avoid as much as possible excepts every to be a theoligan. Tests are impossible, 4 papers leaves really rude comments on papers.
WORST TEACHER! gives everyone a b or lower. I read everything, answered all the questions, and talked to him about paper topics and still got a b. all he talked about was his personal experiences and made us memorize the books of the bible.
Seriously DO NOT TAKE HIM. Each class there was a quiz, sometimes MORE than one. Based on 30-50 pages of reading. Almost impossible to do well. Also, the midterm was ok, but the final was absolutely impossible. I had a B- in the class at midterm, and ended with a D+. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
this guy just goes on forever about nothing to do with anything. and smiles while doing it...
Very boring class, I was half awake the whole semester. Not helpful at all. He basically called me dumb, and was unhelpful. A lot of readings and writings
Dr. Jacobitz is very challenging but he is a nice guy and his class isn't all that bad. It's theology. Out of however many professors in the department, how many will actually be able to draw you in? He's really not bad at all.
I had Dr. Jacobitz for Faith, Justice and the Catholic Tradition and did not mind it at all. There is a lot of reading and it is a lot at a time, but he's such a nice guy. He will definitely help you when you go talk to him. He's not that bad at all. I do recommend him.
ABSOLUTLY HORRIBLE. never know what he's talking about. randomly calls on everyone. rambles on about NOTHING, with a smile on his face. If you do not agree with what he thinks, you better start. DO NOT TAKE.
Really wasn't that bad. VERY nice guy once you get to know him. He gives you everything you need to study for it's just how you go about doing so. To truly get an A (which is possible...) this class must consume you...essentially be your only class of the semester. Otherwise, it is perfectly manageable to get an B+/B
Not bad at all. No theology is fun or interesting (unless you're a theology major) so he made it do-able. Very interesting guy. He's quite a character. I would take this course with him again given the chance. No regrets. Just suck it up and know it's not an easy A, but not terrible.
Took him last year. Nice guy but jeez does he love to talk. Class is all lecture. He is fascinated by pretty much everything talked about in class, so he speaks the whole time. . This class... bottom line: takes A LOT of time. You need to read before class and be prepared (we had a quiz every class). Try to avoid if you can, but overall nice guy.
Great professor. Although the class was kind of boring his lectures were kind of funny when he went offf topic. This semester we had to use several books. WE USED ALL OF THEM, there were readings every night, and a quiz just about every class. Good part about the quizzes were that they were open note book. So basically you need to do the homework.
This class was boring, but it's the easiest class! He gives a 6 question quiz every class based on readings. He assigns 2 papers during the semester. I wrote them the day they were due, and I got an A+ on both. He'll talk the entire class, so just take notes. Midterm and final are easy. I did enjoy the class. Gave me new perspective on my religion
Very boring class. His lectures go on forever and make absolutely no sense. I never did any readings or studied for anything but I never got below an 80 on a quiz.
He is the worst Professor Person I have ever encountered. He sends the most degrading emails if he ever even gets back to you and if you ever need help he will not help you. He is a horrible Human Being and the only good thing about his class is that it is super easy. He is extremely boring and could talk about noting relevant for most of class.
Great professor. The guy lectures a lot but he clearly has a strong passion for what he's teaching. I've gone to his office hours a few times and each time he's been very helpful. There's a lot of reading involved in the course but its an easy class if you do the work.
Well... Jacobitz is interesting, to say the least. If you take him, get ready to read a lot of material that isn't related to your interests or even the class. Weekly reading quizzes are ridiculously specific but answering the reading guide questions helps. He's a funny guy but his lectures rarely, if ever, relate to the material at hand.
Do the readings and it's an easy class. Professor loves the subject and is very invested. Reading quizzes are impossible if you don't read but the midterm and final are exactly the weekly quizzes (again). Essays take moderate work.
Quiz EVERY Friday on about 3 hours worth of reading. Each quiz has 6 questions, 0-120%. If you read quizzes will not be difficult. If you don't read you will not do well. Can make up 2 quizzes by answering reading questions (takes a few hours). Final & midterm are super easy (same exact ques as quizzes). Lectures on nothing relevant every class.
He is so bad. Makes us read so much and quizzes every Friday. The quizzes aren't hard as long as you do the readings. His lectures are so boring and have nothing to do with the class. He stands in the front of the room with his arms folded and stares at the ground and talks. He does not make us feel engaged what-so-ever. boring!!!!
The negative commentary about this professor is misleading. Jacobitz is a great professor; funny, bright, and very helpful. People complain about the readings, but oh well. It's college. He gives quizzes every Friday that are open notebook and are extremely easy if you do the readings(average 15 pages per class). Overall, don't believe the nonsense
If you do the reading and take very detailed notes you will do well on his quizzes since they are open note/book. However, his lectures are very dull and have nothing to do with what you are learning about most of the time. He goes off topic a lot.
Don't be lazy and you'll do fine. Pay attention in class and do the reading guide questions and you will get an A. Every exam is just a repeat of the quiz questions- easy A if you study. The quizzes can be tough, but he drops lowest 2 grades. Jacobitz is passionate and one of my favorites. I took him for both my theology courses
easily the worst professor i have ever had. switch out while add/drop is still open if you want a chance to pass
Strangest man I think I have ever met but I loved every second. If you read and do the study guide questions (about 6 a week) you will get an easy A. Raise your hand and engage in class discussion because he does give brownie points.
He is very knowledgeable and passionate with everything he says. He gives weekly reading quizzes which are like 5 little questions. DO THE READINGS AND CHECK THE SYABUS SCHEDULE. it will save you trouble. Very nice guy, but sometimes loses himself in his lectures. I never know what to take notes on. Attendance really matters.
Jacobitz is very intelligent. Gives short reading quizzes every friday. He loses his train of thought sometimes in lectures. Lectures are boring and attendance matters. Reading is a huge part of his class. READ EVERYTHING!!!
He assigns readings every day for homework but never goes over the material in class. He assigns quizzes every friday which are relatively easy if you do the reading guide questions. He also assigns memorizations (ie: Books of the Bible, important dates, biblical passages). He gets off topic quickly and frequently.
Love him!! He gives too much reading but can also be really understanding. I would take him again if i could
Assigned a ton of reading, most of which is never talked about in class. Gets off topic frequently and has no idea how to use even the most basic of technology. Going to class is mandatory but a waste of time. Reading quizzes every Friday. Id say avoid Jacobitz if you can.
I took Jacobitz twice-- once for 154 and the second time for Darwin, Dogma and Ecology. I always looked forward to going to this class because his lectures were engaging (sometimes tangential, but interesting nonetheless). If you're looking for an easy A and nothing else, though, I recommend not taking Jacobitz.
I didn't really do the readings all year and got a B+. Pretty easy class and the lectures are pretty good. He talks all class but is passionate about the material. Said in the future he's making the quizzes online, which were literally the only semi-difficult part of the class. Easy paper grader (2) and the midterm and final are all quiz questions.
Jacobitz is an interesting character. He is very nice and quirky, but his class can be a waste of time. Attendance is mandatory, though, and he usually just rambles about the readings. There is a LOT of reading with quizzes that follow, which can be difficult if you don't do the readings. But his tests are straightforward and he is a good person.
He is a nice guy and is very passionate about his subject, but his lectures are confusing for a low level THE. He is very philosophical, and since I haven't taken PHL 154 yet, I have no idea what he is talking about most of the time. His lectures are not important to listen to to get a good grade, just read carefully and do well on the quizzes.
THE154 with Dr. Jacobitz has its ups and downs. Straightforward reading assignments and homework that is not insanely difficult, but time consuming. Tests are simply repeats of quiz questions. He is a solid choice, and an interesting person outside of the mind-numbingly boring lectures. Prepare to dread attending his class and for an easy A.
He's a nice guy who cares about his students, and he clearly knows a lot about Theology, but I felt that the class was difficult for me. He goes off on tangents frequently, and he assigns quite a bit of work outside of class. If you take notes, the quizzes are a cakewalk. Otherwise, if you're not super into Theology, take someone else.
Professor Jacobitz is not the most tech savvy and will not check his email. His lectures are all over the place and a lot of the time he would talk about things irrelevant to class. Reading quizzes were due every class so make sure to read because you can't look them up. 3 papers for the class and 2 poem recitations. Not the worst but pay attention
Jacobitz's lectures don't really ever have to do anything with the assigned readings, he usually just rambles about random stuff. With that being said he's a nice guy! There is usually a short reading quiz due before each class, so it's helpful to do the reading's if you want to get 100's. He also provides a lot of opportunity to retake tests.
This guy is the best. Do the readings and you will get an easy A. No more than 20 pages per class and its all cool stuff.
Dr. Jacobitz is the man, very nice and funny. He assigns a lot of readings and there's a 4 question quiz on the readings before every class. All of the tests are made up from those quiz questions (even the final) so it really is an easy A if you put forth some effort. He knows what he is talking about, lecture heavy but its at least interesting.
get ready for a bunch of quizzes (most of the answers are on quizlet) and mandatory attendance and he does not read emails
It's a love hate relationship with Jacobitz. Attendance/participation are imperative to receive a passing grade. Personally his lectures are insanely boring solely for the fact this man cannot stay on topic what so ever. you dont need to pay attention in class and can kinda manipulate him into moving tests/assignments if you plead your case right.
Dr. Jacobitz loves what he teaches and he is a very passionate professor. I disliked his class and it's a straight lecture, but I definitely did not try hard hence my grade. We have a 4 question quiz due before every class. There is a lot of memorization and I only passed because I went to a Christian school until 8th grade and had prior knowledge.
Although I did not mind his class, he never stayed on topic and was all over the place in lectures. He takes attendance every class so it's important that you attend class. There are 4 question quizzes due before each class as well as date quizzes, comprehensive tests, and memorizing psalms. He is also hard to get in touch with over email.
Jacobitz has a clear passion for the subject that's negated by his lack of organization. There's a quiz before each class that's based on the assigned reading. If you don't attend class your grade will be affected greatly. He openly said you won't get higher than a B if you skip out on participation. He's a great guy but not the best professor.
Dr. Jacobitz is a kind, funny professor who goes on random tangents. There is reading and a 4 question quiz due each class. Exam questions are directly from the quizzes. We spend the class talking about the reading, we let him do most of the talking but he would love for us to talk. Attendance is taken each class, so save some absences if you can!
Jacobitz was honestly one of my favorite professors here he is so smart and also hilarious. He made the class a fun place to be with all of his tangents. You'll have weekly quizzes that are only four questions but its nice because the midterm and final are just all of them put together.
This professor has 15-20 page readings before every class, has guided questions to look for that are never relevant to the course again; all the tests exactly the reading quizzes he gives the night before every class (you can usually find the answers online. In class he goes on random unnecessarily long tangents and is pushy abt his opinions.
Talked the whole class, but not about the material we were learning. Didn't excuse mandatory absenses
Professor Garrigan was a good professor as he was very funny, and lectures rarely turned boring. He is very understanding and keeps class work to a very reasonable level. He most often gives extra time if needed and takes off little to no late points.
Each class has readings with guided questions to help comprehension, but they aren't submitted and he doesn't review them. There are four-question quizzes for homework that he only sometimes goes over. Tests come directly from those quiz questions, so study them. His lectures are boring and feel unrelated to the readings.
