Horrible!!
as long as you work, you will get credit from him.. from his course, you will really consider what econ is.. in reality, econ is not easy......
Good guy. Knows his stuff.
Needs to be interested in what he is teaching, makes it seems he above courses.
i do not think he is good. because he does not know how to teach. he always confused by himself when he did some economics problems. sometimes the questions are not clear and he also gives us some really tough questions. and the class is so boring
Its a very hard course, but this would be the case no matter who taught it. He is very helpful, and even has a forum so you can ask questions of him or others. He posts notes and practice exams and the like as well. Also, at the end of a chapter he allows you to ask questions from the text and he runs through them. Course=hard Professor=good.
He really knows his stuff, he just has a problem converying it! he also expects you to know EVERYTHING in the textbook, regardless of whether or not he has taught it to you!
Very unclear, said "if you can't understand what i am saying too bad, read the text book" never gave a decent answer to questions. Did not seem to care about the class. Very unprepared. I stopped going to his classes, I just skimmed the book and I pulled off an -A. Confused himself many times. Would even forget what chapter he was teaching. BAD!!!
If you work at the assignments and read the textbook you should do well in his class. He goes over answers to assignments and test, and uses real world examples in lectures. Finals are much easier than midterms!
If you work hard you should get an A.
he knew his stuff, the lecture was easy.but the assignents and exams were harder than u thought. even u knew the lecture and read text, u still could not get ur expected grade, coz too many tricky questions were on the exams
Runs a useful website with old exams on it. Generally clear in his lectures. The assignment/exam questions are often taken straight from the text book and modified a little so doing questions from the book helps tons.
Definitely try to stay away. Typically, I don't read to much into the negative comments on profs. But trust me, you're better off to try to take a course with a different prof!!!
Great professor, lectures are really simple, as he explains majority of concepts. Runs a really helpful website with a forum, where he assists students with any questions. Just pay attention and read the textbook the night before like me and you should get an A+ without too much effort.
Stays on track with textbook, willing to help if you make an effort. Exams are fair and consistent with class notes and textbook.
VERY textbook, yet his speeches in class are pretty much off the top of his head, not to learn from. Assignments are straightforward, and a little too textbook, not to learn from. Overall, his lecture layout i feel is directed to people who absolutely know this topic. and not to learn from
Professor really knows his field well. Does not communicate his knowledge well at all, does not follow power point slides, is all over the place with course explanation. If you are stuck with him, read the textbook and do the assignments and you will do well and save your self the time of attending.
lectures are all over the place. if you don't know the entire textbook, you will fail. questions on exam don't reflect lectures. prof gives NO indication as to what material is even important. assignments are multiple choice but can take hours to finish. don't waste your time with watching the lectures. just memorize the whole book somehow!
Great prof. Does many examples in class and keeps the class engaged. Good explanations and open to questions. I'd take another econ class with him again.
Poor professor. Easy in class, hard in assignemnt and final. You need to take 4-6 hours for each assignment. And you need to read the text book by yourself because he never explain clear in the class.
TERRIBLE professor !!!!!! Avoid him!!! !!!
I found this course challenging, but with that being said,if you go to class/listen to online lectures, read the text you will pass the course. The Professor was always available to answer any questions I had and provided clarity when needed. He was always willing to work on questions from the text when requested by students.
If I have choice, I will never choose this pro. He explain not clear and he do not talk too much with the textbook. Assignments and midterm exam are easy, but final exam is very hard. I have no idea how to do. The most important thing is, I think he teaching skill not really good. I am regret to choice him
He has a bit of an accent but explains everything really well. As long as you go to class and pay attention you'll do fine. Reading the textbook is key. He goes over things very well in class but if he doesnt finish the lecture its up to you to finish the chapter he was working on for the tests.
Doesn't provide organized, helpful notes. Exams are insanely hard - doesn't prepare you or explain clearly what will be expected. Makes the exams WAY too long. Doesn't utilize lab time-it was a total waste of my time to go. Doesn't say which textbook questions are helpful to do and which aren't. If you can take this course with someone else, DO!!
Gabi saved my ass multiple times through out the past 3 years including times i missed exams for school sports. He's always willing to help especially when its make or break. His accent won't bother you after a couple classes and he is actually pretty funny. Exams are tough but what Uni exams aren't? Just study & you'll be fine. Cheers bro
Lectures were quite disorganized and unclear - seemed unprepared. Assignments were difficult but doable if you asked for help and worked with others. Midterm was fair. Final exam was absolutely horrible, I've never done so bad on something. Tests are based on lots of concepts that weren't even mentioned.
final exam and midterm were pretty hard. strongly suggest you guys don't take dragan's class.
The notes are quite disorganized. Assignments and exams are extremely hard!
One of the hardest courses I've ever taken. It WAS NOT worth the stress and I started to doubt my intelligence. If you make the make the mistake of registering with this prof make sure you know how to apply all the concepts and memorize the textbook cover to cover.
Do not take microeconomics with him, he is unorganized and all over the place. Not the worst Professor, about a 6 out of 10. Assigns online quizzes, but you can find the answers on the internet. Make sure to read the textbook , it explains Material better
Great prof and very knowledgeable, lectures can be a bit dull and confusing but if you study you can easily get an A.
Very good professor!
He was an overall decent professor. Was nice to individual students. If you have questions he will answer them during his office hours. However, lectures were dull and filled with copying down many graphs. You have to read the textbooks to really understand the concepts. A challenging course if you don't keep up.
Nicolae Dragan is definitely more of a "meh" prof. His lectures are straightforward, but dry and boring. His tests and final are generally a good representation of a combination of what was taught in class and what is in the textbook. I don't think he's as awful as a lot of people make him out to be, but he's not great either.
Uses his own website for assignments. Get to know him he's nicer that way. Hard topics, its best to see him at his office hours. I failed his midterm still got a B at the end.
With Gaby, reading the book and self study is mandatory. Do not skip any class (specially the first day), Always ask question even if it may sound stupid because trust me you will need it. The course is not a super hard but it is definitely challenging. Last thing, always if not try to answer end of ch.Q's.
I took Gabbi's online course. After the second midterm I stopped watching his lectures b/c they were a waste of time. ( all over the place and unclear of what topic he was covering) I basically taught myself the whole course using the textbook. Exams are easy if you know how to draw all the graphs. Makes sure you do the practice at end of chapters.
Explains things clearly and at a good pace; it seems like he cares about his job and students. Homework assignments take a long time but are very helpful for tests/exams. Tests and final were fair. The final is 50% so that sucks. Don't need to buy the textbook if you listen to lectures and do the practice assignments. Easy A if you do that.
Test heavy: midterm & final exam covers in-class discussions that he solves on the board. It is extremely important students attention most, if not all, classes. Economics problems discussed in class were difficult but appears on exams. Lecture heavy: teacher uses colour-coded markers to differentiate graphical curves & lines. Very long assignments
Only covers the stuff that matters, so tests have few topics but you have to know them well. He uses his own website which is odd, but works out alright. Likes trick question. The lectures are very textbook oriented, so if you read the textbook you'll be just fine (but you probably won't so good luck).
Pretty good instructor. Once you realize he is incredibly dry you get his sense of humor. Lectures lack a bit of clarity but are good for grabbing concepts if you read the text before class. Assignments and exams are based on text not lectures.
meh, I didn't really understand why he taught when after every lecture he'd make sure you KNOW to only study the textbook not the notes
He was decent, everything is based on the textbook
Don't take Dragan's class!!!!
i stopped going to class because he was just confusing. i bought the practice book that went with the textbook and honestly that was they key to success. his exams are fair but hes just an awful teacher
His lectures were not helpful at all hard to interpret or follow along with. His website is very old-fashioned and it is hard to figure out which questions you got wrong due to the way the feedback is displayed. He provides no feedback or clarification on assignments or tests.
Prof definitely knows his stuff, but the lectures are confusing and not on topic. The syllabus is vague, and he has his own website use instead of nexus. Overall, he is fine, but lack of clarity in class makes it more confusing than just learning from the textbook at home. Needs to spend time on specific elements of class, rather than off topic
This is a prof where it doesn't matter if you attend the class or not. He teaches some things but not all and tells you to find the rest in the textbook so it is crucial that you read the textbook. As long as you know when the assignment deadlines are you will be fine. This prof also does not post slides online, you have to take notes as he talks
He has no powerpoint or notes or literally anything structural for his lectures. He teaches as if he's solving problems on draft paper where you don't know what are the questions, and of course, it's messy and confusing. Exams are decent but tricky and being stressed out during the exams is just a mess. He knew that but choose to do it anw.
He does not care about how students do in the class, he teaches everything once but takes forever to talk so it's harder to stay focused. His exams are very different from what he preps you before the exam and is a very tough grader. It's very hard to get a good grade in this class
Explains everything well in the textbook. Can be boring at times.
Professor Dragan is clear with his expectation, and tells people in the first classes that they won't pass if they do not try. I enjoyed his lectures and found his explanations clear. He replies to emails in a timely manner and provides help during office hours. His final exam is no joke, and it is worth 50% of the final grade, so be prepared!
Prof has very hard marking for exam. I will suggest not to take class with this prof. Almost more than half class has been failed in his course.
Well, let's start by saying that he is strict and direct the point, prof. Has his own lecture and for him, there are no stupid questions. Book is optional but helpful, quiz and exam are fair, in my opinion. For me, his teaching style was great; Macro is not easy at all, and I mean any Uni course is not easy peasy; you will have to work hard for it.
Do not take his classes. All he does is makes easy subject so tough. His accent makes it tough to get him and also his classes are not exciting. There are various other professors for this subject, choose them. The people who are not familiar with Economics should completely stay away from this professor and choose others instead.
Very difficult class over COVID. 2 different browser extensions and you feel understanding so much pressure during tests/exams. Exam is worth 50% and he got upset with our class so he didn't make it under UMLEARN and the website he used as buggy so it didn't give you part marks for questions that were worth 10 part marks. DO NOT TAKE.
you dont have to attend class AT ALL to pass! I stopped going after 1 month cause I found it useless, the textbook was more helpful. Exams were really hard
Nothing that he teaches is on the final exam, simple as that. Super slow in marking and appears quite intimidating. Textbook is utter useless and so are his lectures for the final exam. JUST AVOID, PLEASE.
Very unorganized and unclear prof when it comes to teaching and communication throughout the course. His exams minimally follow the material given in his lectures and assignments and is overall a tough grader. Class performance was so poor that the Final exam was curved by several letter grades. Would not recommend.
This guy gets a lot of undeserved hate. I find he is quite clear as far as expectations, his assignments and exams can be challenging, but fair. You learn these concepts on a deeper level, and he adds a little bit of production value to his lectures, which is a nice touch. If you're an econ nerd, ask him about the econ textbooks he grew up with.
He tells you what is expected and is willing to help outside of class time. I think if you put in the work the class isn't overly tough but some of the concepts are take effort to understand. He is a knowledgeable prof who give many examples to help understand the ideas. I think the rating on here for him are a bit to harsh, he's a good prof.
I have been at this university for the past 3 years and have never had a professor as bad as this professor. He marks super tough and never goes over anything related to the assignment in class. Always has midterms and exams with stuff not taught in class! Failed most of the class
In no way shape or form is this professor good!
Gabriel is a fantastic person but he doesn't have a care in the world for student success. If you can teach yourself well, then you'll survive in econ3311. Course material is heavily based on intro concepts. I would not take another class with Mr. Dragan, but I'd definitely go for a beer with him.
Very slow marker who grades by a few things very unorganized and hard to understand at times
Was super hard to understand and he does not grade fairly
Over complicated things
Super challenging midterms
Gabi was a really good professor! His lectures are very straight-forward and as long as you listen in class you would be able to get a good grade. He has assignments almost every friday that really helps you understand the material and makes learning each chapter seamless. I definitely recommend taking him!
I read gabi's reviews before making mine and I think he gets too much hate from bad students. He's very clear with expectations in class and gives great examples for assignments or test. As long as you do the work he gives, you'll get a good mark on the midterms and exam. IMO a very good professor with plenty of bad students willing to rate
Makes things super challenging
Gives exam grades after the semester is over
Fair professor, when treated with respect, but tough marker and teacher. Expects you to know some things before attending, even though you've never done such math before. Confusing. Lots of headaches. Mid and final exams were a nightmare for EVERYONE. Textbook is mandatory, as he takes questions from there for exams. Take him only if you have to.
Extremely tough grader and pulls test material from out of nowhere
Super tough grader and expects alot from students
not a good experience
As a student with a learning disability being in his class made it worse. I have had extreme panic attacks with his deadlines and harsh marking. The feedback given is always disrespectful towards the student since he gives rude criticism. Super rude when you ask him any type of question. Avoid him on all costs
Gabriel makes this class super challenging by throwing trick questions on exams and midterms. A lot of the stuff on midterms and exams are briefly taught but heavily tested. Super difficult to understand and makes everything harder than it is. Do not take him for quantitative
Very hard, very unhelpful
Super hard to pass
Unorganized and unclear super hard to understand at times
Professor with a hard and strict attitude No quality of lecture Always tries to cover up the course No doubt session No mercy
I will not be taking one of gabi's courses AGAIN!! His lectures are just all over the place, the assignments DO NOT relate to the tests the textbook in any way. He gives basically no information on whats going to be on the tests, and just overall kind of mean towards students. Im not sure how Gabi is still a teacher here.
I will NOT take his class AGAIN! Assignments did not relate to tests or textbooks whatsoever. Grading was considered incorrect, even if you were trying to show your understanding. He is plain rude towards students. IDK how he is still a teacher here
Gabi told us in the first 5 minutes of the first lecture what it would take to pass. Do not fall behind and you'll be okay. The only time I had trouble was when I put off homework and got behind, it is hard to catch up
Run as far as you can.
Dull, dry lectures that are filled with nothing but graphs. No compassion for student situations either. Keep up or drop out. I don't find he has much ability to properly convey the material and I'm only taking his course because it's required. Dennis Nguyen was a much better professor but they have to alternate teaching this course.
Super hard to understand
I really like Gabi!! I found his lectures to be very engaging, and interesting enough to follow. He uses A LOT of graphs, but I've learned through macro and micro economics that graphs are a recurring theme. I think he does a really good job at explaining concepts, as you will need to understand the information more than memorizing it.
Gabbi grew on me! He's hilarious but can be very strict. Get ready to read the whole textbook and know it. His in person classes are confusing so you'll have to teach yourself, your best friend will be youtube but overall he's not bad but not the best.
Gabby was a really strict when it comes to exams and giving grades,
He does not give engaging lectures, he always tries to be funny but fails. Don't expect respect and care from him.
Even though he is kinda rude and strict sometimes, his lecture and teaching techniques are pretty effective. Believe me or not, after studying with some others profs, he is still the best prof for me.
Professor gabi is often perceived as very strict, but i would suggest all the BBA students take his course instead of Applied Maths. He is compassionate in certain ways while grading the paper. He is stern and true to his words. i would gladly recommend him over any other boring and monotonous professors on campus.
After reading the negative review, I did not expect a positive experience. He is the best, I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews. He is strict, but also funny at times. Gives too much emphasis on the textbook. He curves the marks I think. Exams were decent, very much focused on the assignments. I will take another course with him.
Gabi knows his stuff, I have taken 3 courses with him and he really explains the concepts well. Sets expectations beforehand, encourages questions. Tests cover class material.
Supe bad professor not easy to understand and throws material into the test that was not even taught
Would be a better fit as a second year or third year professor BUT not a first year. He isnt welcoming, doesnt spark passion or engage students, and is rude to first years when asked simple questions. He has no tolerance for literally anything. Idk why he still teaches first year courses when he chases students out with his “approaches” to teaching
