In his Shakespeare class, it is mainly reading. We took 2 tests, wrote 2 essays, and presented 1 project. The only issue with his class is that he is a tough grader with his essays. I didn't hear of anyone getting higher than an 85 on any of the essays. A majority of your grade comes from the reading questions turned in every class.
doesnt grade papers based on grammar and doesnt require citations on some papers. lectures are pointless and the papers assigned are kinda dumb. dont think it rlly prepares u for EH102. easy A but the lectures r boring and u have a bunch of minor reading quizzes that allow u to bring ur grade up. wouldnt take his class again tho
I guess this class is easy. Even though I never really understood what the paper topics were I just guessed and made As on all my papers. His lectures are boring. Luckily I had a friend in this class. We tried to help each other. We would just hope what we were doing was right. I dont believe this class is going to prepare me for eh 102.
I wrote 4 main essays in his class. He gave wonderful feedback on the drafts in a timely manner. He explains things well, as long as you listen. He is willing to offer extra help with your essays as long as you ask. He even warns you when there may be a pop quiz. It's a standard class with a wonderful professor.
Dr. Lonsberry really knows his craft. His lectures are interesting and he has a good sense of humor. He's pretty lenient as well.
This professor was one of the best I've had! He is very understanding and very easy to learn from. He will help you with anything you need!
He was great, 10/10 would recommend!
He was great! Very understanding, good feedback, and funny.
I loved that we were able to discuss every class! He would never fail to answer any questions we had, and if he would still have to ponder on a question he would pick it up next class! Because it is a Shakespeare class, we did have to read a lot but he made it easy to understand the material! Would take again!
Dr. Lonsberry was amazing! He was always able to break the material down so that it was easy to understand. Every time I had a question, he took the time to answer thoroughly and never made anyone feel less-than for asking. That thoroughness also shined through in his feedback. I think that - and our class discussions - were my favorite parts.
Dr. Lonsberry was able to break down the reading and information in a way that was easy to understand! I also appreciated how he split up the reading one or two acts at a time. He was very clear about his expectations for assignments and took the time to give detailed feedback on papers, tests, and projects.
This professor grades fairly, enjoys his topic and cares about the success of his students.
I wish I could take another course from him. Wonderful.
This was one of my FAVORITE professors I took my 1st year and I can say he was very helpful in any question or concerns you may have had. The class itself isn't easy but he definitely makes it tolerable.
Great professor. Clear grading criteria, allows reworks. Must attend classes tho.
Only homework are quizzes over reading and writing your papers. (homework quizzes are 5 questions) (only 4 papers all semester) Schedule his class at a good time in the day because attendance is mandatory. Great professor overall.
Dr. Lonsberry is absolutely amazing! His teaching style is very clear and to the point, just like his grading criteria. He's available whenever you need him and he's always willing to help students do better. His class has difficult material, but he explains it very well and thoroughly with plenty of examples.
I took British Literature and was 100% prepared to hate every second, but it was actually a really fun class. I refuse to take a literature class taught by anyone else ever again.
This class was great, I expected British lit to be horribly boring but he made it a very fun class. Lots of little quizzes, so many opportunities for grades aside from big tests and projects which I appreciate. Definitely recommend!
He is amazing! Possibly one of the best professors I have ever had!!! He gives lectures but they are never boring and he is always sure to keep you involved and interested! He isn't afraid to have fun, but he is also very clear about what he expects from his students and their assignments! You should absolutely take this class!!
Professor Lonsberry is a really nice guy who knows his field of study well and lectures well. He has a great sense of humor and fosters a relaxed and friendly class atmosphere. The amount of reading wasn't bad, and all the readings were relevant and interesting. Be prepared to work and discuss readings in groups and to interact in class.
Great professor.
Professor Lonsberry does an amazing job explaing thought processes and the best weays on writing essays. He makes EH 101 an easy A. Definatly would take again.
I enjoyed Dr. Lonsberry! He is a very nice man and I felt like he saw us more as adults wanting to learn than as students needing the credit! Although for his Shakespeare class, "love is a battlefield" is a good topic in theory but most of the plays selected focused a lot more on battle and war talk than love. Remove the henry plays, they suck!
Mr. Lonsberry is one of the best professors I have had at JSU. 10/10.
Dr. Lonsberry is great. The only reason I did not receive an A was that I slacked off mid-semester. He always gave very clear guidelines for assignments and is always willing to meet with you one on one if you need more help. I have taken a course from each for the last two semesters and both were great experiences.
He makes it so interesting because obviously loves the conten. I loved his teaching style and would take him again.
He is so funny and down to earth! I loved his lectures and he was so helpful on my papers. I would definitely take him again.
Dr. Lonsberry is one of the nicest professors ever. He took time with my essays and made me a better writer. He was my favorite professor of the semester and tbh I want to take Shakespeare from him now. Take him!
English is not my best subject but, I loved this class. I hope I can take my lit course from him, I think he helped me become a better writer. Thank you Dr. Lonsberry.
Such a cool professor. He also knows tons about music and films. Class is fun and thought-provoking. I recommend him 10/10.
100% recommend. What a fun course and what a cool professor.
Literally nothing negative to say about him. He makes me want to take more English classes.
This was a huge online class, we had around 40 people. But he was so skilled at facilitating it. I enjoyed the content and the discussions and I recommend both the professor and the online format.
He knows his craft and challenges you to think outside the box when reading and discussing Shakespeare. He wants you to make modern connections, which makes the readings more enjoyable. I loved this class and I loved his teaching style.
He took time to explain why he made suggestions on my papers which was helpful. Highly recommend!
I love this man! Treat him kindly if you ever have him as a professor; it's what he deserves. Make an effort to participate because his personality really shines through when you do. He's a funny, highly intelligent guy! Make your time with him worth your while.
Brilliant, passionate, respectful, humble, kind, and genuinely cares. Perfect 10.
Dr. Lonsberry is highly intelligent and also genuinely nice. He respects your opinions and wants you to think critically and make connections to generate your own ideas.
He is nice! He lets you fix your paper errors based on his comments, also gives bonus points. I feel like I became a better writer with his comments. I would take another class from him!
This professor is a total slay. Caring, helpful, funny, gets to the point without going on and on. I will take him again for my lit credit if I can get a seat!
I recommend Dr. Lonsberry for British lit. He is very knowlegable and I enjoyed the syllabus for the most part.
5 out of 5 for sure
Professor Lonsberry is a great professor he will help you if you don't understand a topic on an essay or narrative and he gives awesome feedback on papers and I have B in his class and his class is not hard and he will always ask if you need help on getting your thoughts together about what your going to write about for essay or research paper.
The professor demonstrates exceptional professional abilities, characterized by an engaging and effective teaching style. Overall, the professor's commitment to effective teaching enhances the learning journey for students, creating a positive and enriching academic atmosphere.
Great professor, emailed back very quickly when you had any questions regarding the class. A couple of essays but rubric was always very clear making them easy if you put in the work. Got your grades back to you in a timely manner.
He is amazing! There were some tough reading selections but his explanations of the text make it understandable. He has some genuinely interesting class material that make the 1.5 hour class time feel quick. As long as you put effort into reading the assignments you will do well. I absolutely recommend taking anything he teaches.
Prof. Lonsberry does a great job of explaining things and making sure everyone understands before moving on to the next subject.
He is so kind! I so thoroughly enjoyed his class. He made tough readings easy because he genuinely wants you to understand. He truly enjoys being a teacher it seemed like. This ended up being my favorite class. Highly recommend!
Lonsberry was always happy and chill, and when you email him, he would always be positive when answering your questions. We had some heavy readings in this course, but he taught them in a way that, was simple to comprehend. It was honestly a fun class. I think I would like any class he teaches.
Comparing to want I have this semester he was awesome. He would stop to make sure everybody got on the same page. He would take the time to help with your essays. He was respectful. He cared about your success. I wish I got him for 102!
Billy Shakes, SUPER. Lonberry, SUPER DUPER! Take him!
Super nice guy. Super passionate about the content. Enjoyed the course alot more than I expected.
Dr Lonsberry is an overall great professor. His lectures are very hands-on. He incorporates group discussions during his lecture. For example, he will have the class read a paragraph and you must talk with your group about what the paragraph is about. He also regularly calls on someone to share their thoughts and requires you to read aloud.
Dr. Lonsberry is a great professor. He does a great job making students not feel intimidated. He makes learning Shakespeare interesting. I enjoyed his weekly video lectures because they were straight to the point and not too long. The class does require a lot of reading.. He also gives you a one day grace period to complete assignments.
This has been my favorite graduate-level course and professor. He is so passionate and enthusiastic about the content, providing the necessary prompting for rich discussion. He wants you to think critically and make connections. His feedback is positive and helpful. IME, he is the most student-centered English professor at JSU.
Dr. Lonsberry created a clearly organized online course with quality instruction and guidance through the material as well as through the assignments.
I liked Dr. Lonsberry because he was respectful and considerate to everyone. He had no ego or attitude and his course expectations were clear and easy to follow. I loved his class and I really hope I can take him for lit.
EH203 is the same content as senior year-Beowulf Chaucer Shakespeare, that era. Dr. Lon's berry is the Shakespeare professor, so the Shakespeare readings were deep. But its not a hard class. Expectations were clear and fair. With essays, he allows you to edit with his feedback before submitting. Overall, a great experience. 100
I took Dr. Lonsberry's class along with two others (different professors) at the same time, and I found it very manageable. There were weekly FlipGrid discussion posts, weekly quizzes, readings of Shakespearean plays, and two larger writing assignments. Overall, I enjoyed the course and found it to be interesting!
I teach American Lit at the hs level, so I thought I would need to reach deep into my undergrad Shakespeare memories to prepare for this course. Not so, because he provides excellent scaffolding and prompting. Good course design with a friendly, accessible subject expert. Fantastic course!
Very good professor! He is very willing to work with you as long as you do your work , and show up to class. Would definitely recommend taking him for english.
Although the course had rigorous reading assignments, I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Lonsberry's teaching style. He is very considerate and allows assignments to submitted a day late if students ever need this option, he responds to emails quickly, and makes weekly lecture videos.
I am so happy to see so many positive ratings for Dr. Lonsberry. He deserves them! Shakespeare was my favorite course in the MA program. A friend told me that his Milton class was also great. I hope they keep adding creative new Shakespeare/Early Modern elective offerings. Pocahontas Goes to London? I think yes!
Dr. Lonsberry is a great professor. The course was well put together, the content was good, there were plenty of assignments to help keep grades up, and he gives excellent feedback! Very fair. I have three young kids, an aging dependent parent, and work full time. I was able to manage this course and another while balancing everything else.
Be prepared to be involved in class. There are quite a few reading required but they are all online and not hard. His lectures go in-depth and can be painful at times but overall good information. He is also really easy to talk to when it comes to questions.
I never found his class boring. He is a very good professor. Gives detailed reviews and suggestions. Would totally recommend his class.
Very good professor
He is so sweet and his teaching is so easy to understand.
EH 101 was amazing with Dr. Lonsberry! There were four major papers and multiple minor assignments. It was very clear what he wanted to see within each different paper and he was always willing to answer any questions about the assignments. It is clear he wants his students to do well and really understand what is being taught.
My favorite professor! I chose to take him again next semester just because he's that great. I 110% recommend taking him if you have the chance. For this class there were 4 papers and 3 of them he gave student examples which was really nice. Overall a great class.
Dr. Lonsberry is a great professor who takes British Literature very seriously. wouldn't say he was difficult; however, he is a heavy grader. Lots of reading involved in this class, but they are good works! Video lectures help out greatly to prepare for the upcoming week. Be sure to read the works and watch the videos and you'll be fine.
Essays are your test, and he allows you to resubmit again after he gives feedback. He is understanding and will help any student who needs assistance. Could not recommend more to start out your college experience.
Dr. Lonsberry is one of the best professors I have ever had! I truly enjoyed going to class everyday. I highly recommend taking his classes!
Makes lectures fun. Gives great feedback on all papers.
I believe that Dr. Lonsberry was a good professor. He is very interested in British literature and it was easy to see from the very beginning of the course. He was very approachable and was very understanding of possible sicknesses and late work. I will say that he is very tough when it comes to grading and he only expects the best of the best.
I LOVED this class/professor! He was amazing and really tried to explain a tough subject as best as possible. His online class mostly was a short quiz every week, a lecture video (which was nice to hear from an actual person), and the finals were easy! I would absolutely recommend and retake a class with him! Not a lot of writing either!
Truly one of the best professors I have ever had! He always encouraged involvement in class discussions but was not pushy about it. He is also super personable, approachable and funny! Def recommend to anyone
Professor Lonsberry is one of the best English teachers I've had in a while. He actually walks you through the work and is there for any questions at anytime. His lectures aren't boring either it was fun to be in his class would do it again.
If you do your work you WILL get an A. He is very understanding but do not take advantage, he gives a lot of lee way for your work. I usually struggle in English but he made me feel better about it!!
Dr. Lonsberry is a GREAT English teacher. The material covered was all relevant to each other, and everything makes sense. His class reminds me of a high school question-answer/discussion at times, and occasionally we will popcorn read aloud. 4 total papers, but smaller assignments to help your grade. I totally recommend to incoming freshmen!
I took his online British Lit I course & received an A+. He does great job engaging students & making his content interesting. He keeps the assignments interesting by switching up the work (some will be videos, some written, etc.). He also provides helpful feedback on assignments. You should definitely take his class!
He's awesome!
He does a great job keeping you engaged with the modules. His feedback on my writing was also really helpful. He's so nice, the way he encourages your efforts. It's obvious that he's truly caring. Definitely take this class online with him for your lit credit.
This was my favorite class so far at JSU. The reason was because it was the first class I have had that has allowed me to have an opinion. The discussion boards are great. Very creative topics. There is a reading quiz each week, a video to watch, and a discussion board. Midterm and final. Class is easy if you try. Professor even sends reminders!
This is a good choice for online because this professor set up the class so it fells like an in person class. He is very easy to communicate with, he answered my questions really fast, also I learned a lot from other students on our discussion boards. I would definitely take him again.
I do think some of his grading was opinionated, not just based off of right or wrong, but he does give great feedback on the discussion posts! There was 1 video, reading, discussion post, and short quiz due each week. It is obvious that he is very interested in teaching about British Literature, especially when watching his lecture videos.
It's really alright for an online lit class. He's super nice and always makes the readings interesting. I don't really like some of the readings but he's doing more than my high school teacher did to engage us. It's a lot more interactive than other online classes I've had.
He is super nice and super excited about teaching British Lit. He gives the best feedback on your discussions! He knows so much extra info about your readings that it's actually fun. I loved taking this class online because it didn't really feel like an online class. You discuss and interact with classmates.
Extremely funny person who's also extremely caring about your work, and easy to get in touch with. But the main thing is he is obviously passionate about literature in this period of time. Extremely interesting class which I recommend.
Thank you and guys make sure you pay attention and ask questions
Dr. Lonsberry is a great professor who obviously cares for his class and students. He gives great feedback on work and is always available to help you out if you have questions or concerns. He is also understanding. He makes his work and instructions clear and simple, guiding you to success as best he possibly can. I will be taking his class again!
Even though I'm probably going to end up with a C, that is all my fault. Doing your assignments matters in this class! He is a great teacher all around and it was an interesting class to take. I learned a lot about new British literature I've never seen before.
Dr Lonsberry is an amazing professor! I really enjoyed taking his class. His personal insight on British history was super interesting. Overall, I would highly recommend taking his class and I wish he would teach more because I would love taking to take his class again.
He is a very awsome teacher I had him this year, and when I say he can make English look way more easier then what it seems like.I highly recommend this teacher
This has been my favorite online class so far at Jax. Awesome professor who knows so much about British literature and history! It was a great class and I definitely recommend taking it.
Easily my favorite class and professor at Jax State. He's an incredibly deep well of knowledge about Shakespeare and Tudor/Elizabethan England. It's really a literature and a history class rolled into one. You should take this class with him no matter what your major is. It's an outstanding class, which I'll always remember.
