Hard to understand. 1 exam and he gives the questions. Take notes.
Two papers and one final. Very reasonable grader. MUST take a lot of notes.
Unfair grader. if you don't share his opinions, you are wrong. Writes a novel on the board for notes. Never gives clear answers to questions.
EASY GRADER!!!...be prepared to copy tons of notes off the board
Easy but very boring. 2 papers and final (he gave up the questions).no other assignments..lets u make up papers for a better grade. hard to understand. all we did in class was copy notes off the board.

very boring
Unclear, boring, doesn't teach anything. All his info is just what he memorized from the books he tells us to read. If you want to keep your books just use them in class and save yourself the paper

I feel that the professor did not do a good job in getting the students interested in the subject.
Is this guy serious! what a joke of a teacher i actually had to drop philosophy cuz of this jerk. he is terrible and speaks with a heavy ass accent. forgive me father but you suck at teaching.
Dont bother going to class. He write on the board really small no matter how much you ask to write bigger. His tests are alot of essay and pretty hard. He speaks very softly so to hear him you need to sit close BUT he speaks broken english.
I HATE him! He is a bad professor, ****, ****, boring and hateful. He never knows what he's talking about and he can't even speak English!
Worst professor I've ever had in 4 yrs of college. never have i seen someone who doesnt know what he's doin more than him. he hardly speaks english, will mark you absent if you dont stay the whole class, and is a horrible grader. save your money.
never gets the class interested in anything, boring, i have 65 pages of notes so far and haven't understood a thing
BORING think before you take him, don't just be like well it a long time away cuz his class blows big time.
VERY VERY VERY BORING. Don't EVER EVER take his class unless your interested in philosophy, and even then you still won't learn anything besides how to fall asleep in class. He never gets you involved in any of his lessons all you do is write all class.
is is bad when you take so many notes and still dont understand what the hell is going on?!?!..when it comes to registration DONT register for his class
The most BORING class ever. All he does is take notes all period. He never gets the class involved. Easy grader. No tests. You dont even have to go, doesnt take attendance. Pretty easy A or B
blahblahblahblah is what i hear in class. makes philosophy soooooo boring and hard. get ready to sleep in his class.

Can be summed up into three words...confusing...and boring...otherwise easy class so might almost be worth enduring
ok so this is the most painfully boring class ever, thats been est. but if you need to raise your gpa like i did he is worth sucking it up and taking it like a man. I hateed going to his class and felt depressed when i came out, but i did no work whatsoever and got A-.
He's a nice and decent teacher. He knows his material but has a hard time presenting it.The majority of the class probably still doesnt understand plato and aristotle. He is willing to help. The class can be dead boring, but if you are willing to learn, ask! He's an easy grader. good luck! =]
Not the best class but you have no hw the whole year. Take home midterm and he gives you the questions for the final. If you try hard on the take home and study for the final you should have no problem getting a good grade. Class is rediculously boring so only take if you have to.
I admit he does give lots of notes but for the people that dont like presentations, group work, and HW wouldnt mind taking alot of notes instead. He writes all the notes down on the bored so u cant possibly miss anything. And is mid-term is take home, and gives you the ques for the final.Best teacher
Writes alot of notes. I had him for a 3hr night class but it wasnt that bad...all the time. Boring but easy. No homework, just at the end there were like 2 assignments. No Midterm. There was a final but he told us what was going to be on it. I would take hime again but for and hr class.
Do not take this class for three hours. This is an easy class with alot of notes and minimal actual work. a take home midterm and a final. and he gives you the questions before the final. Good class if you like philosophy.
Yeah he's boring, but you'll do anything for an easy A right? Cause that's what this class is. Sure he gives a lot of notes, talks a lot,& gives 2 papers. But with the notes u don't need the book, while he talks u can sleep, & u can give in the papers as late as u want-just have a good excuse. Hes real nice & he cares about students. Recommended.
Incredibly redundant w/ notes. 7p notes are for real. Extremely boring, EZ A/B sure but not worth it specially if 3h class. Helpful nice but cant teach, doesnt keep interest and wont allow for certain relaxations to keep from being impatient/aggrivated in class. Gives hard time over comp/doesnt allow early exits even in harsh conditions. Not Recom..
He is a Father, yea, but he is one impatient guy. He doesn't allow any dissenting opinions, so if you're confused and ask him to clarify or try to argue, he will not allow it, and move on without clarifying enough. He also threatened to rip my paper if I didn't stay for the whole class. AMAZINGLY BORING. gives 5 min break in a 3 hour class.
BORING!!!I like philosophy but HE was boring.not much homework and tells you whats going to be on the exam but its torture to sit in his class and he doesn't answer questions to satisfaction
Take home midterm paper, a homework paper, and a final that he emails you the questions and then gives you the answers in class. Not too difficult to get an A but I took a night class with him and felt depressed every Thursday. Hard to understand, doesn't let you use laptops, and generally hard to stay awake for... but like I said, a fairly easy A.
Yes he was boring and hard to understand, but if u want to get an A, take him. Take good notes, only read the book if u have to, dont talk in class. He will give u a take home midterm and answers to the final. Just memorize the answers. I got an A. Be nice to him. He knows everybodies name and come to class.
the teacher is not bad BUT his test are. He gives questions out b4 exam but they are essay questions. HARD TO MEMORIZE! Take notes and go everyday b/c his final is from notes! NO BOOK NEEDED..
EZ a/b. just show up and take notes! there is a catch, he is BORING!!!!! he will confuse you and put you to sleep. but hey, its an A/B
Its philosophy what do you expect...super boring class doesnt let u use laptops dont even have them out on your desk gives papers you need the book for but can copy straight from book and get an A final he gives out Q/A before but its 10 essays so it is impossible to memorize all Fair grader but takes attendance must show up make him know your name
this guy is a horrible. teacher. He writes for 3 straight hours. You can not understand a word this man says, I know he is a father but God should have gave him a better tongue and mouth. He is a tough grader, he makes you summarize a book that is in greek and then grades you harshly on it. How is possible to get a B- on a summary!!! do not take hi
SOOOOO Boring!!!! THE most boring professor I have EVER taken. All he does is writw notes on the board for and hour and half. His notes are EXTREMELY repetitive and his voice will put you to sleep immediately. Even though he is an easy professor I would NOT take him.
papers are straight forward using the notes and textbook and there are no tests. BUT i couldn't understand a word this man said. he has an accent. he notices and says something if you aren't paying attention and does not allow laptop use during class
This is the most boring class I took allllll semester. He is the most boring professor ever! And his voice will put you to sleep faster than you can imagine.
Please...don't....take...him... :( He is sooooooo bad. You have been warned!!!!
soooo boring. i fell asleep in every class. i never understood anything he said because of his accent. he made us spend so much money on textbooks that we used once which was for the take home midterm. the final is 8 short answers & 2 essays. theres never any hw but to read from the text
Teaches theology more than actual philosophy. Is a priest. No laptops. Voice makes you tired. Text book is a waste of money except for midterm. Assigns reading in text. Don't sleep in class where he can see you. Is EXTREMELY repetative. No electronics(laptops too). Prints out the notes. Even his notes are repetative. Nice guy though, just boring.
BEYOND BORING!!!!! he claims that he tells u what he expects from u for ur grade, but then at the end he screws u over and if u ask him why, he gives the biggest bs of an excuse in the world, try to avoid.
really nice but incredibly boring. you can't even use your laptops to stay awake
its kinda boring but its not too bad...he talks kind of low and you can't use your laptop
Well...the class is very boring but its really easy. all you have to do is show up for class. he doesnt like it when ppl fall asleep so try not to. there is only two papers and there just summaries. the exam is easy because he gives you the questions he will be asking before hand. yea the class is boring but its an easy A. just show up 2 class
Yes U want to shoot yourself how boring this class is, but try not to sleep cuz he doesn't like that. I got an A & I still have NO CLUE about anything we did. About 2-3 papers (summaries), MT (summary) & final (gives questions before). He is a really nice, helpful, patient & caring person, BUT CAN'T get material across (but an A is still very easy)
VERY BORING.... he asks for a few summaries from reading the text book. One of the summaries is the midterm and for the final he gives out the test questions a week before finals so you can study. Don't fall asleep and don't play with you phone because he will make you look like a fool in class! easy grader
Don't use your cell phone or your laptops. Don't even hold your phone, you'll get yelled at. No homework, but makes you summarize parts of the book for the midterm. Final he gives you the exam questions ahead of time. Don't even bother trying to stay awake in his class though.
EXTREMELY BORING. I can not emphasize this enough. You will want to jump out the window in this class. He just talks all class, very low voice so it's even more difficult to stay awake. Don't use your phone, laptop, don't fall asleep and definately don't come late. He makes a huge deal about it and will make you apologize. He's nice though
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! HORRIBLE ACCENT, COULDN'T UNDERSTAND 3/4 OF WHAT WAS SAID ALL SEMESTER! If you take out your phone or anything electronic once he'll take it away! If you doodle in your notebook in class he'll tell you to stop! If you don't read the text he'll PURPOSELY try to humiliate you! He will fail you cuz of 4 or more abscences!
he's sooo easy. there are three simple steps to getting an A in the class: 1. go to class, dont miss too many classes, 2. read. 3. midterm andfinal paper... just do it. thats it! if you dont read he will pick at you... oh and the rating below missed 4 or more ... 3 HOUR classes... so yea no S*&T he'll fail you for that
He is one of my great professors!
Really nice guy but sooo boring. If you're someone who is actually interested in having a fun and interactive Philosophy course take another prof. Fr. Gabriel's heart is in the right place but his class is just unbearably boring. I don't even recommend it for those of you just looking for an easy A
After taking this class I wondered how the university would even hire someone like this. Awfully boring, and reads off a PowerPoint for an hour and a half..Avoid at all costs.
humiliated me in class because i was actually interested in the material. he is very closed minded and reported me to the dean because i discussed with the people around me on things we were doing in class. do not bring ur phone.laptop.electronic devices. and stay quiet. look like ur interested. hope for a C+. goodluck!
Don't ever take him!!!!!! He's such a harsh grader. He writes nonsense comments on students' essay and expects students to think the same way as he does. So stupid. Never take him.
He is awful. I had him for a 3 hour night class. He waited until the last minute to take attendance. You can hardly understand his accent. If you ask a question, he ignores you. He contradicts himself. Told us that 7 textbooks were mandatory...7! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He was awful! I had him a 7:30AM and it took every ounce of me to stay awake. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM! The only positive thing he did was give us the questions to the final exam. 2 papers, no midterm, and final. Oh yeah, he still uses PowerPoint...EVERY CLASS!
Had a 7:10pm-8:35pm night class. Lectures until the very last minute. Had two essays that were easy, but he's a super harsh grader. Super nice, has a pleasant accent. You need the books he tells you to buy for the papers.
The worst!!!! Do not take him!!
Most annoying professor ever. Literally the hardest grader. He's rude too. You email him for help, he will email you close till the essay due date. He doesn't know how to teach and he doesn't give a proper rubric for his essays. You do a summary and he gives you a bad grade on the essays and then goes you didnt include this. Horrible. DONT TAKE!!!!
Has a strong accent and can be hard to understand sometimes. Definitely favors women, but if you participate in class and offer some type of insight, you'll get along fine. Homework is pretty much just 3-4 page summaries every few weeks. Readings are usually no more than 20 pages of dry philosophy.
Incredibly sweet man who loves what he teaches but he's very very boring. He has a thick accent, but if you pay attention you can understand him. Had him freshmen year from 5 to 8 and I struggled to stay awake. Gives way too many notes so you don't know what to write down or study. Strictly lectures, two books, can get pdf's online if you look.
Took this class online for one week. No syllabus, grades you doesn't give feedback to why you got the grade you got. Quizzes put up randomly on blackboard without an email or syllabus that says when the quizzes are put up. Avoid this class.
The level of difficulty was to great for this professor. I ended up dropping the class. Provides no clarity and deadlines for online classes after an assignment is posted is only 48 hours.
Tests are hard and very tricky. He expects a lot but as long as you do the reading and discussions, the class won't be terrible
Professor Muteru loves philosophy, and you can tell. I learned a lot in class. The lectures are heavy, so I recommend bringing a laptop or printing out the slides. When emailing, he always responded quickly, and answered any questions that I had. He cares for the students, and wants them to do well, but you have to put in work to do well.
The slides in class were long, and lectures had lots of info. If you take notes, and put effort in the papers and quizzes, you will do well. Professor Muteru was also always available outside of class, and answered questions that I had. If you do the readings, and assignments, you will do well in class. You can also tell he loves philosophy.
Dr. Muteru's class was easily one of the best online classes I have taken. I was not too intrigued in the topic of philosophy, but I grew a genuine interest thanks to him. He formats the class really well and makes sure to give all his students a chance to receive the best grade they can. His passion in the subject is amazing. Definitely recommend!
Im personally not someone who wants to sit in class for 3 hours and listen to someone read me slides. There is a lot of content on the slides. He is not very organized, didn't put up midterm grades till late and doesn't put up quizzes when he says he will. Comes to class 20 mins late every single class, making us wait.
I had him for 3hrs on a Wednesday and this professor just reads off of slides and he talks FOREVER. His slides are 25-45 slides long. He is usually late to class. Essentially this class is easy because you only get 2 papers a semester and 2 take home quizzes. This class is so boring and makes you wanna cry. AVOID HIM!!
DO NOT take him for an online philosophy class He has no clear grading system and nit picks everything the quizzes are extremely hard and is an extremely harsh grader He sends pages and pages of power points, which are often time extremely content heavy and long Unfair teacher all around, would help with videos posted
Professor Muteru wants the best for his students. Although his lectures are hard to comprehend, he makes the effort for all his students to pass . He's a tough grader when it comes to the papers but when it comes to the quizzes and final they're pretty straight forward with the questions. Take this class if you dont wanna be overwhelmed this semst
Mr. Muteru was a very kind a fair professor. Even though he has a lot of slides on the board he does a good job explaining them. We did not get a lot of work only two papers, two online quizzes and the final was also a online test. We did not get any homework but if we had questions about the class he was always available for help!!
Mr. Muteru was a best professor. I took him for online phisophy class. He gave us powerpoint slides with clear structure of this class. If you study hardyou will easy to get a good grade for this course. He is a kind professor. He will patoently answer the questions when you encounter difficulties.
Try not to take this class. It is very boring and its very hard to pay attention in class or to even want to go to class. Its pretty easy but as I said he is very boring and has a thick accent which makes it that much harder to pay attention. Quizzes are online and there are two 3-page papers that arent too bad.
D O N O T T A K E H I S C L A S S He talks low in a monotone voice and has the most boring lectures on the planet. He gave me a 45 on my midterm paper that was over three pages long while a fellow classmate got a 78 for the same level of work. If you are a good student trying to maintain your scholarship don't risk it.
Professor Muteru is very helpful and available through email whenever you need assistance.. However, he is a very strict grader and deducts points off of your assignments for simply not mentioning a few things. There are tons of slides in each presentation which you use for each quiz which isnt too bad.
Even though I'm doing well in this class, for some reason he doesn't like to give perfect scores. You can write way more than he asked for and he will still not give you a perfect grade for what you deserve. Take someone who will grade you fairly based on your work.
Currently taking him online and he is terrible. I'm doing everything he has asked and I'm on the verge of failing. NOTHING you give to him is good enough. Do not take him!!!! Unless you want your gpa to drop :)
Took him for PHI1000C online. Silly me, I thought it was going to be easy. The powerpoints are so long and sometimes really difficult to understands. Quizzes every week are INSANELY difficult, even with access to all your notes and books. Additionally, he is a little tough to get a hold of via email, which is no good for an online course.
The worst professor I've ever had. Took him fall of 2017. Was late every single class. One class he left a note to wait for him or we would lose credit, and he was 45 minutes late. Very tough grader on the essays he gives, and they're the only grades you get. Very quiet. Never would I let someone I have the slightest respect for, take his class.
Great guy. Took him for both philosophies. Very caring. There are quizzes every week but word to word from power points he posts before letting us know he will. Midterm is an interesting research paper and final is MCQ questions. I was struggling and contacted him over the phone. He replied even though he was far away in Maine. Def recommend!
This is one of the worse online classes I have ever taken. It is so much work, especially for a core. I do all of the work he asks, but basically failed the class. He does not answer emails. He also is a harsh grader on weekly discussion posts even though its basically regurgitated information from his slides. Do not take!!! Not worth your time.
He is not a terrible professor most claim him to be, but I took him online. 4Q discussion board and 20Q mc quiz each week, 2 papers, 1 mc final. All info is directly from his class notes. It's simple easy work, just a lot. Just do the work. I was behind on weeks of discussion boards and still got an A. Yes he emails late, just show that you care.
Very tough grader, has proudly mentioned that he rarely gives 100s. Hell dock points for not mentioning little things. Weekly quizzes and discussions for online and needs to be 800+ words. late when answering emails. PowerPoint slides are outrageously long for weekly readings. Took him more than 1 month to grade some assignments.
I took this class asynchronous and it was by far the worst class I have taken. Each week, you are assigned a discussion prompt that include four, 200 word responses as well as a true/false quiz. While it sounds pretty easy, he grades very strictly for things that are not outlined in the questions. Try to avoid this class with everything you can.
2 term papers, difficult weekly discussions, ambiguous t/f quizzes, final is 40 mc questions. Unresponsive basically all throughout December. Took TWO WEEKS to submit final grades when other profs already submitted 72 hours after the final was taken. Will dock points for a few typos and small mistakes. DO NOT RECOMMEND, STAY AWAY
What an utter joke this class was. Terrible professor, terrible man, everything the other reviews said about what he assigns is 100% accurate. Doesnt answer emails, so youre forced to text him. Decides to screw you over on grades beyond the point you can argue since he was 3 weeks late on submitting final grades. Doesnt like his students. POS.
I took the class asynchronously and it consists of four 200 word responses and a quiz based on hard follow powerpoints. On top of that you have to buy two textbooks which are only needed for typically one of the questions he asks on the homeworks. Quiz questions are very vague and he should ease up on the harsh grading of the homework. Would avoid.
Professor Muteru does not have a clear grading criterion. He expects students to write 200-word responses to each discussion question each week. He is also very vague with his feedback, and he grades extremely slowly. He seems like a nice dude but is never accessible even though it is an asynchronous class.
there's a 4 question discussion each week and you need to reach the 200 words for each question or you're penalized. i wrote around 180 each and he gave me a 10 for the assignment. he takes off points for improper grammar when his powerpoints and the textbook don't have it. the textbook has so many run on sentences and is hard to understand.
I am not one to bash a professor, as I have found that most people who give bad ratings are usually students who want solely an easy A. However, there aren't enough words to describe how horrible this professor is. Put it this way, the whole class did so bad that he had to curve everyones grades (I went from a B- to a B+ with no extra credit)
I am a straight-A student, but never in my career at St. John's have I felt so small and stupid in a class. Readings are extremely long, T/F quizzes are ambiguous, discussion questions have no rubric, and the class notes lack proper grammar/spelling. You'll be penalized harshly for grammar/spelling when it's lacking in the class material itself.
Are you a student who is looking to read dull, poorly-crafted slides, compose 800+ word assignments without clear guidelines, take horrendous quizzes, drop their insanely-well-maintained GPA, and minimize their self-esteem through a lack of academic validation? Great! Take this class.
weekly 800+ word discussion posts & quizzes, too much work for a core class. powerpoints are challenging to understand. very little communication with students and never responds to emails. extremely slow grader. avoid at all costs.
He sucks as a professor. At the time of this post, he's still 6 weeks behind on the weekly assignments. The final was due yesterday. He can't write an open-ended question to save his life. As a Philosophy professor. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS OR PASS/FAIL IF YOU CAN
Very tough grader. Uses old powerpoints to teach and books that you have to read over and over for them to make sense. Takes forever to grade and didn't even submit grades for all discussion posts/quizzes at the end of the semester. I ended up doing well, but this class was a pain in the ass. Discussion posts are brutal.
Beyond terrible. Submitted a 1,500 word midterm paper which the instructions was to write a basic reflection of the given pages. I received a 0 for "not answering the question", when there wasn't a question given in the first place. Then after emailing him about it, he proceeded to respond with a nasty and rude email. He should not be a professor.
There's an 800+ word discussion post every week and a quiz with extremely vague questions. He said some questions have answer options that are all wrong and to take an educated guess. He's so passive-aggressive and sent me an email asking why I haven't submitted my midterm 4 days ahead of the deadline, but why does it matter if it's on time
Grades based off of word count, not your ability to understand the material. Power points were difficult to understand and poorly organized. Droped this class.
This professor was horrible. His weekly quizzes are unnecessarily complicated. The questions are very vague. Terribly harsh grader. Impossible to bring your grade back up after one failed assignment. Grades based on word count, not actual answers for discussions. Do not recommend in the slightest.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Extremely harsh and unfair grader and completely vague and unhelpful in his feedback. The difficulty of this class made it seem like this professor wanted his students to fail. Never been concerned about failing a class until this one, had to pass/fail.
This is the worst human being ever.
Extremely harsh grader, vague test questions.
awful avoid at all costs had to drop this deplorable class
Perhaps the worst professor I've had. The harshest grader ever and is unclear in his feedback. Assignments are pretty vague as well and WILL take off points if u don't reach the word count. Even it's by only 4 words. I'd rather have taken literally another other teacher than this one. For an online class this was far too strenuous.
This class had a steep learning curve with weekly quizzes and lengthy discussion posts. While the professor's teaching style was rigid, using resources like unstuckstudy and the free textbook helped me stay on top of the workload. Overall, a challenging but manageable course.
