super nice and sweet, personable
Very Approachable, and many analogies relating to television
very nice prof, but make her test really hard.
A very interesting and inteligent Prof, and a genuinely nice person

Good prof. but a hard marker.
The woman says "Um" every five seconds. One lecture she said "Um" 208 times - I counted.
Very clear and enthusiastic speaker. Obviously loves her subject. Seems genuinely nice.
Really interested in teaching. Makes an effort to get students interested. Very energetic. One of the best profs ever!
Great prof. Very insightful. Likes to say "ooooh"
**DON'T TAKE ANY OF THIS PROF'S CLASSES** Gabrielle is so bloody concerned with proper format in essays that she neglects to actually read what you are trying to say. I learned how to write a thesis and formulate paragraph structure in Grade 10 English, I don't need to learn about it again in university! Give it a break, learn to read a essay!
If you are looking for a easy English class to take for your one Eglish credit, do not take this class. Children's Lit may appear easy, but this is far from the case. I don't know whether or not it is the professor or the material, or both, but this is not an enjoyable class and those who need one English credit for their degree should look away!!!
How many times can she say 'umm'? Most annoying English Prof I have ever had. I can't believe all of you folks that gave her positive marking. I had to take both of these classes because they weren't offered at Kings. I wish I didn't but had to. Next year I am going to make sure I don't have to take any classes from her again. Booo-urns!!!

I did not like Prof. Ceraldi one bit. She is the hardest marker (considering the content of the course) and she is way too concerned with the thesis of the essay rather then the essay itself. Oh, yeah and don't be fooled by her claim that she "bumps" peoples marks up to the next grade level- because SHE DOES NOT!!!!!
she is not a nice old woman.
Her marking isn't easy or hard, i would say its fair. She does outline her expectations, so its not too bad, shes very approachable. She lovesss what she does, its very obvious. Fun course overall!
Just painful. Because of her I cringe at the thought of children's books, intersession, and summer school entirely.
Prof. Ceraldi is an amazing teacher. She takes a simple topic (children's books) and teachers it such an enthusiastic and interesting manner. She is also one of the nicest and most caring professors I have ever had.
My favourite prof!
She's one of the best profs I've ever had... She's extremely helpful and wants you to do well.. Make sure you go to her office hours and get some help on your thesis!! She's super amazing, and I know you guys will like her lots!!
I loved her and this class!!
She should absolutely have a smilie face! She is the best. Very enjoyable class!
Even though I'm in science, this is one of the best classes I've ever taken (also helps having an awesome TA for tutorial), but do go to class to know the important quotes from the children's books!
Wonderful Prof. and an enjoyable english class. I wish she taught another course.
She cried reading Anne of Green Gables...LOVE HER!
G.Ceraldi, must be by far my favorite professor yet! She made class lectures fun, entertaining and discussions easy. She engaged the class in the content, and you can tell she has a passion for her teaching--and children's literature! This kind of professor is rare, and an absolute delight! Love you Ceraldi!!!!!
She is a great prof and she is very easy! She is interested in what she is teaching and makes the listener interested as well. The marking depends on the T.A. and I personally thought it was free marks.
Prof. Ceraldi is great! Don't have much to add to what's been said here, but she's very sweet, funny, and obviously very interested in what she teaches. I've enjoyed this course immensely.
She was the best prof I had during my first year! Her lectures were always interesting and it made me want to take more english courses in the future even though I'm not even majoring in it! It also helps if you have a great TA
Quite simply, my favourite professor at UWO. She's such a sweetheart! Great lecturer, fair assignments. Read the books and come up with unique thesis statements and you're golden. The TAs were exceptional as well.
Ceraldi is passionate and knowledgeable about her work, and conducts amazing lectures and discussions that are relevant to the topics she's selected. She's somehow able to relate anything students say back to the subject at hand, which says a lot in a course about Harry Potter when people tend to talk a lot. Very skilled. Highlight of my week!
She was a wonderful prof. Such a nice lady. She was sweet and very caring of her students. She came to my tutorial and listening to each of us give a presentation on the novel. She is so intelligent and has interesting ideas. I would take another class from her in a heartbeat.
Terrible. She doesn't even mix up marking so some students are left with her grading their work throughout the semester while others get easy marks from TAs all year. Isn't hard to realize that's unfair
This was an amazing class, although not the easiest. Professor Cerladi was great! Always very clear and helpful! One of my favourites!
Ceraldi is brilliant! Her lectures are very engaging and the materials she chooses for class are relevant and interesting. She is also very friendly and adorable! I loved children's literature and I hope to take more courses with her if I can!
Hands down one of my favourite people ever, both as a professor and an individual. I took Children's Lit as an intersession course and 6 weeks was not enough of Dr. Ceraldi! Very passionate about the course content, she makes sure to engage students in lecture, and she's always helpful outside of class too. A truly delightful woman in every way!
Fun class
Way to concerned with the thesis statement of an essay. She expects you to create some awe inspiring statement from books with little depth. Not to mention the class is more like a fan club. She also has 2 horrible habits: she digresses too much into her personal life, and the rest of her lecture is her pointing out the obvious
Not an easy prof, but she is amazing! I took the Harry Potter class (highly recommend it) and she was so great! Her lectures are very in-depth and you need to stay focused, but they were very insightful. She has made me want to study Gothic literature more in-depth. Great prof!
D.r Ceraldi is a genius! She takes the material seriously and gives very entertaining lectures. She also has the ability to pull an interesting point out of any student comment, so participation is encouraged without its diminishing the class. Expect to have fun, but don't expect a bird course.
I wish there had been less group discussion. I am there to take notes on her lecture not the opinions of other students. My TA was awful and her notes made no sense. I wish that Prof Ceraldi had been the one to grade all of the final essays, not the TAs, because it is worth so much of the grade. I did like looking at HP in a different way though.
Great prof! Great class for non-english majors and Harry Potter fans. She's very passionate and helpful, your main concern should be attending classes, taking notes, and picking a house with a good TA (there are 3 and mine was brutal). Also dont take this class if you have not already read the 7 Harry potter books. Lots of reading.
Dr. Ceraldi was AMAZING. She is so passionate about teaching and english that it's contagious. I took english 2033 night class with her and the classes always went by so quick because they were so interesting. Highly recommend her and this course. That being said, she isn't an easy marker, but this is an english course, so it's expected.
Great professor. I loved her! Her lectures are really organized and she gets to the nitty gritty of the texts at hand. She's really there for you when you need help. Don't go into it thinking that it will be an easy credit because it's "kiddie lit" as the books are deeper than they appear! But they are wonderful and enjoyable. Would recommend.
It's a super interesting class, but you HAVE to go because she just talks for (the whole) 3 hours and expects you to write down everything she says. Also you have to participate, which sucks when you don't feel like you have anything intelligent to contribute. You can participate through forums though which is cool as long as you keep up with it
I took the summer children's literature class with her and I didn't want the course to end after 6 weeks. There is so much more to kid lit than I ever dreamed and her passion for this course was so obvious and made it so easy to remain engaged. She truly cares for you and will help you if you're willing to help yourself. Highly recommend.
Great lectures, very engaging! :)
Ceraldi is a blessing from God. The Harry Potter course reminded me of the passion I have for literature and the fictional world. Her own passion and love for the series along with other texts was obvious and inspired my soul. If you love Harry Potter, you have to take this course. I cried when the course finished.
She's passionate about children's lit, and is a very fair marker. She gave lots of information about what is expected of students for both essays and the exam. Extremely helpful.
Absolutely adored her. After taking a first semester course with her, decided to take all the courses she teaches. Her lectures are fascinating, she really makes you think. She values a well thought analysis and ORIGINALITY when writing essays, if this is something that comes easy to you, you'll do great. She is extremely fair when grading.
Amazing prof. Made me fall in love with my craft all over again. Fun course, lots of work though. Definitely not a 'bird course'.
Ceraldi is an absolute gem of a professor. Actually loves what she does and makes an effort to get to know every individual in the class. Very approachable and good marker.
As an English student, I found her very difficult in terms of marking. That being said, she is exceptionally fair. She is very passionate and initiates discussion. She really prepares you for essay courses in addition to being very understanding. She is there when you are in need of help and I would definitely suggest going to her office hours.
The course was harder than I thought it would be - I thought Dr. Ceraldi was a pretty tough essay marker. She really values a creative thesis. She always used the full 3 hours of lecture which was a bit painful but you have to attend because she doesn't post lecture material on owl. Overall she's very kind, and passionate about her job.
SO MUCH READING! I guess thats typical though. She seems nice in person, and like many English teachers, very energetic. Her tests are fair if youve done the work. The trouble is with essays imo (just hope you get an understanding TA). She really should have reworded the syllabus better. You write no narratives. You just analyze texts. :(
Lectures were really insightful, especially for a 1st year English course. Amazingly, we somehow had really good class discussions despite being a class of 300+ students.
I'm a psych major. I got a 90 in her children's lit. It's achievable but it's so much work! She is prompt with grading and clear with feedback. She really goes above and beyond to help students in her office hours.
Second time with Ceraldi and I still love her just as much! Most amazing lectures I've ever had. Most passionate prof I've ever had. 10/10 honestly. She's such a lovely woman! Returns grades pretty quickly, very clear assignment/exam instructions, goes out of her way to meet outside of class, very organized, very kind. Only have good things to say!
Ceraldi is an amazing prof. She has really good thoughts about the subject matter (which is fun because its Harry Potter). I just wish she would lecture herself a bit more instead of letting students take over. It makes it hard to figure out whats important and whats not. Other than that, I really enjoyed her!
Not an English major but I took her class anyways and I actually found myself enjoying her lectures. By the way she talks you can tell that she loves teaching and is passionate about the material. One of the most organized profs Ive ever encountered (already had a COVID-19 plan in place before the uni closed) She is a hard marker but what can u do
Professor Ceraldi is really passionate about her classes and is very involved and leaves amazing feedback for you to consider on your next assignment. However, she's a really tough grader. I thought most of my assignments were really well thought out and delivered but they did not meet her expectations so beware of that.
I'm not sure how she is in person, but her online classes (if you can call them that) during COVID were terrible. Her idea of a lecture was a typed word document that she would send us weekly. No recorded lecture, no zoom lecture, no PowerPoint, nothing. I taught myself this entire class. When I needed help she was available and a fair marker.
I honestly loved Ceraldi and thought she was a great lecturer/person! She takes content that wouldn't be considered very "deep" and makes it super deep in a way that gets you thinking (in a good way)! Only thing is that she and the TA's have pretty high expectations and are tough markers which I didn't expect, but still a great class overall!
She was a great teacher and always available for help when you needed it! The course definitely is tough if you are not the strongest essay writer but with her help you can get the grades that you want. Overall great teacher and course!
Probably one of the worst courses I've ever taken. Terrible prof online, I self-taught myself the whole course. Just throws documents to read and expect us to learn ourselves. TAs are also tough and don't really help. Definitely a course where the prof does not want you to succeed. No effort was put by the prof into this course.
Dr. Ceraldi is incredibly knowledgeable about what she's teaching, and I absolutely loved her lectures. I took her course with works by Lewis and Tolkien, and she was always bringing up themes that I never would have seen in those books on my own. That being said, she is a pretty tough grader, so make sure your essays are your best work.
Took English2072 with her and her lectures were enthralling. I can't comment on her marking since I think a TA marked all our stuff but I ended the course with a 77 despite only reading like 2 out of 8 books you're supposed to read on the syllabus. Just take the key ideology of her lectures and augment them with your own ideas and you'll do fine.
Ceraldi was very clearly passionate about everything they covered. Course content was always interesting, and sometimes she would even tear up when covering certain quotes or topics. One thing I feel like I should warn about for this course is the large amount of readings, which most of the classmates I talked to did not finish completely.
Professor Ceraldi's passion for the course makes it absolutely worth it. Although it was an online course, any question I emailed her was met with an extremely thorough and helpful response. It is the kind of enthusiasm every professor should have that invites a true interest to learning and improving your writing.
Prof Ceraldi is probably my favourite prof I've had here at Western! She is so sweet and understanding and truly wants to see her students do their best. Def get ready to read though. You have to read a book a week (and sometimes some short stories as well). Participation matters but she makes it easy and you can do it online if you're shy.
Enjoyed the 2nd year English as a Biochem Student. Professor Ceraldi was also very passionate about what she was teaching, which was evident throughout her lectures. To be aware it was a lot of reading, albeit learning to read is definitely a process.
She is so passionate and a great lecturer. She marks our essays pretty strictly and expects controversial theses. I wouldn't recommend to anyone not used to writing essays. Definitely not a bird. Also super participation heavy. You need to post 2 forums per week and go to all lectures to get full participation marks, which she wasn't clear about.
Her grading scheme is very opinionated. There is no clear grading scheme or instruction set other than choose a couple novels and compare them talking about one topic. Unless you're an english major, don't take this course.
Super nice woman with amazing lectures but little to no feedback for essays after being absolutely slaughtered by the TAs
She is nice but is a horrible lecturer. If you have a choice, don't take her classes
I adore Gabrielle Ceraldi!! I look forward to going to her lectures because she makes them so fun and interesting. She is an amazing lecturer! Definitely a reading-heavy course but sooo worth it. She chooses great literary works and makes them all the more interesting
The marking was insanely hard.
This professor is one of the best I've ever had. Marking is extremely fair, as long as you put actual effort in. She is a very welcoming prof, in this class participation mattered but you could either talk in class or post on a forum. Every class was enjoyable and engaging. I had never taken an english class before at university level but had fun!
Super fun prof, but you aren't always clear on how what she discusses is important to your submittable work. It is interesting and useful, but as it is an essay-heavy course, it would be useful to have more information relating to them.
She is definitely a bit of a harder marker, but is very fair. Lectures are fantastic, only con is you are expected to do a LOT of reading. Participation is mandatory but offers online options for participation marks. This was an elective for me and I'm glad I took it - she is very passionate and gives great feedback for assignments.
The course requires a lot of reading but if you understand the texts and take advantage of office hours for questions about the essays, it's not too bad. I did the online course so there was just discussions but it was pretty easy to meet the criteria and some notes to read after reading each book. She is also quick to respond with any emails.
Professor Ceraldi is an amazing lecturer, her classes are engaging and genuinely interesting. In this course, you are expected to read the entire Harry Potter series plus 2 other books. This was overwhelming but she spaces out the classes to be roughly one book a week! there is a 40% essay, but just go to office hours and be sure to participate!
nice lady but way too much reading and she doesn't actually teach. TAs grade extremely hard and give little to no feedback. Took it as a bird, farthest thing from. Do not take this course if you are not extremely passionate about the materials, you will not do good. I don't recommend this course at all
