Useless course but easy. Prof gives high school assignments, and has her favourites.
Was looking forward to this class. Her lectures consist of spending 80% of the class talking about her clients that she counsels, followed by not being able to complete the PPTs for the day/lecture. TAs are also completely disorganized, as are most of this terms assignments. Keep this in mind. She's nice though..but, meh class (so far).
Gabrielle Pitt is WONDERFUL! Such an amazing professor! I learned so much from her.
she is amazing, best prof ive ever had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brutal marker and unclear about guidelines
Professor Pitt is an amazing and inspiration women, who has lots of stories about her experiences, making lectures enjoyable. Unfortunately, the group project (worth 50%) made this course such a pain: we had to make a company, interview parents, make a video and write two reports about a toy we built. The midterm and final were not easy.
Professor Pitt is definitely one of the kindest people I have ever met. If you take the time to talk to her after class or go in and see her during office hours, you'll quickly realize that she really does cares about how her students are doing in her course. I really enjoyed taking her class, but make sure you like doing group work.
She is honestly the sweetest prof, but her lectures are so boring that many people don't go and the people that go mostly do their own thing. I've never had a prof who talks about her own life so much! You need to read the textbook, all test questions are very tricky and taken from it. A 45 minute presentation in seminar isn't exactly fun either.
Super sweet lady, but extremely boring lectures. Never went, still did well. Need textbook as quizzes/midterm/exam are from it, and need to reference it for a paper. Very disorganized as she would make typos in assignment instructions and then not clarify for the entire class. The TA's were always on different pages and the class was left confused
The group project sucks but she's a good prof and the seminars are super easy. She reads off the slides a lot though so I went to class only half the time and did work for other classes.
Doesn't reply to emails within 24hrs and picks and chooses students to work with. She says she wants open dialogue but is biased when looking at work submitted as she wants things a certain way.
Great prof, so wholesome
This class is easy marks. You can put it on the back burner until assignments are due and still pull off a great mark. The prof has very detailed instructions and provides good feedback. I hate group projects but this one is a small amount of work for how much its worth and easy to do well one. Overall I highly recommend as an elective or mandatory
Very understanding, quizzes are easy if you read the text!
Amazing prof! She is understanding and thorough. She is organized and obviously cares about what she's teaching. She has amazing experience and applies it to each chapter for further understanding.
Dr Pitt was good. I have little things to mention. They were nice and the grade you receive was from a diverse set of different things - not just tests and quizzes. I would recommend this course.
Pitt is a great instructor and taking PSYC*3570 with her in the summer of 2022 was interesting and fruitful. I enjoyed her class and would take her again for another course in the future. Not the toughest in my experience, but she does expect you to work for your grade in her courses.
Professor Pitt was fantastic, she is open with her experiences working with children and parents, as well as delivered great lectures. The content was engaging and applicable. Had 4 15% quizzes, as well as two papers (15% and 25%). Quizzes are very straightforward and easy to do well in. Her course is easy to do well in, and enjoyable.
Dr. Pitt is clearly fully committed to teaching. While her lectures can drag on and become a little boring, her patient stories can be interesting from time to time. You definitively need the textbook, as she does not go in to depth on specific concepts in class. The BQ assignments are manageable and much preferred to a big paper for me :)
Dr. Pitt spends more time telling personal stories than teaching course content. There is little to no point in attending lectures when all of the content can be self-taught through the provided slides/textbook. The midterms seem to draw more from offhand info which Dr. Pitt places zero emphasis on, rather than the core content as one would expect.
This is Dr. Pitt's first time teaching PSYC1000, and it shows. She wastes class time breaching her clients confidentiality and telling their (as well as her own) personal stories, then blazes through the lecture slides without explaining half the information on them. It's difficult to learn when the prof doesn't actually teach.
Dr. Pitt spends much time sharing stories, but it's all to further explain a concept in class. For me, her real-life applications help me understand lecture material. She respects her patients' confidentiality by never sharing personal details. Dr. Pitt is a firm prof, but very considerate. She shows great compassion when students reach out to her.
I enjoyed Dr. Pitts Psych 1000 class! No quizzes, 2 midterms, an exam, and 5 short discussion based papers for grading. I've found the marking to be fair, and comes back pretty fast considering how many students there are. I would recommend Dr. Pitt!
Slightly rude when it comes to talking with her about your grade and not very patient, lectures are not necessary as she only reads directly off the slideshows. Her burning questions are graded quite harshly making it hard to get above a C if you do too badly on any of them. I would not take her course again unless it was required.
Lectures aren't super mandatory as you can learn exclusively from text, but she provides good examples from her work as a social worker. She is an experienced psychologist and it shows. She is very kind and very available. She answered all my emails in under an hour, and even gave me 2 separate extensions on one project due to sickness.
She's super cute and kind. The lectures aren't really worth going to; she mostly reads off the slides, but it's definitely a heavy textbook reading course. She assigned 5 discussion posts which I loved as they were effective for actually learning the material. She's passionate about what she does and often shares stories from her personal work.
Dr Pitt made everyone buy the newest version of the textbook, claiming if we didn't we'd do poorly then went on to preach about accessibility. Lectures were not worth attending as she mostly talks about her clients and you have to teach yourself anyways through readings. Assessments were fair and graded generously.
I love this professor. She has such an amazing and deep understanding of her courses and never fails to give an insightful lecture. She is genuinely such a kind lady and cares about her student's success.
Theres no reason to bother attending her lectures, half the time she would skip through the slides after spending 90% of the class telling unrelated pointless stories about her clients. Also expect to spend a lot of time using the slides and readings to teach yourself psyc1000, because Dr. Pitt isn't doing it.
Shes clearly very experienced in this field, but i found the lectures unnecessary since her slides were based on the textbook, and she didn't go into them too much anyway. definitely keep up with reading the textbook because YOU WILL DIE if you leave it all for the last minute. the discussion posts are easy once you figure out the right structure.
The lectures were long and boring and I stopped attending midway through the semester besides the 2 midterms and the final exam. She seems to know her stuff but doesn't seem to talk about the material directly much in class. I never studied for the course but the lecture slides/assigned readings should be enough and lectures themself aren't needed.
She does discussion posts practically every week and it was quite difficult to get more than an 80% on them. If it wasn't for my good midterm marks, I wouldn't have gotten an A.
The content is very interesting and you can tell she really knows and enjoys what she teaches! The class was a little difficult but manageable. It was quite test heavy as well because we had two midterms and then the final. We also had 5 discussion and response posts that were quite difficult.
Dr. Pitt is an amazing prof. Her lectures are clear and prepared and she is very kindhearted. She integrates textbook content with her personal experiences in the field. Marking is based on 2 midterms, SONA, final exam, and 5 discussion questions. Overall, PSYC1000 is pretty content heavy but she has excellent explanations of concepts.
I really liked the format of this class. 4 tests plus 1 midterm paper plus a final paper. gave lots of opportunities to improve and wasn't too heavily weighted on exams. the content is very interesting and Professor Pitt is very nice and accommodating. Saw she was teaching a class this summer and decided to take it!
Most passionate professor ever. Super interesting. Very good lecturer.
Pitt is one of my fav profs to this day. The midterms were textbook heavy, but if you enjoy psych it's not hard to make good notes. Pitt was really knowledgable on the material, and I always enjoyed hearing about her work in the psych field. I thought she was an awesome prof.
Pitt explains things very (veryy) thoroughly and is quick to respond to emails. The actual course content was interesting and engaging, but be prepared to read the textbook and take good notes so that you're prepared for the midterm/final as well as the smaller tests throughout the semester.
Ms Pitt is an amazing prof. She uses the lecture slides in addition to her experience has a therapist to teach course concepts. Discussion posts and midterms are pretty light (can be done within 15 mins if you study) and you can tell she cares a lot about the wellbeing of her students. Although a 3 hour lecture isn't ideal, she makes it work.
Too many guidelines and rules - formatting documents and text and font sizes for every assignment, for discussion posts and group work too. Doesn't care to respond to emails regarding issues in class. Content all online and it's not too hard, but heavy weighted work is marked strictly because of guidelines. Avoid.
Lectures are so boring and unhelpful, you pretty much have to learn on your own. She doesn't shut up about her grandkid.
Everything that was in the readings, were in the lecture slides. The midterm and exam questions were very simple and reasonable. Overall, I loved Dr.Pitt!
There aren't very many assignments in this class (2 online discussion posts, 2 midterms and a final) so if you get one bad grade it can drag your mark down. Although, Dr. Pitt gives off such grandmother energy and shares her own personal experiences with the class to help better explain concepts.
Does not provide any feedback or help to understand where you may have went wrong, grades terribly
Assignment guidelines were a bit overbearing, and it seemed like they were more important than the actual content sometimes. Doesn't respond to emails about course content/assignments. Still relatively easy though, not too hard to get an 80+
As a person I appreciate her, but as a proff I struggled to follow. She has a very calming voice but speaks fairly monotone and repeats points up to 5 times before moving on. It makes lectures feel like a drag. If you have a question your best chance of getting an answer is to ask in class. Emails won't be answered.
shes so bad I want her
Consistently fails to answer questions in emails properly and is answered condescendingly. Lectures are not mandatory, thank God because they are SO dry and boring. This will be my third course with her and this rings true for each course. Easy A classes though, no final/group projects/in person tests & great to take if you have a heavy semester.
Do not take this class with her you will hate psychology and want to drop out her entire lesson plan is her life story.
I hate this class. It's so hard to sit through lectures.Theres 2 mandatory discussion posts which she is a tough grader for. There is 2 midterms.
I hate this prof. Don't listen to the people on here saying she's amazing. Do not take this class as an elective unless it's online. Trust me.
One of the hardest profs, couldn't sit in her class for more than 15 mins. repeats herself, treats students like 5 year olds. Taruma dump on students what has happened in her life. she tries to cut readings, but it isn't short it's a long read. If you ask a question that she already answered in the instructions, get ready for the embarrassment.
THIS PROF IS AWFUL!!!! She whispers in lectures and I'm in the front row AND CAN BARELY HEAR HER!! She makes me want to sleep in class and the TA are such hard markers!!!!! No feedback and the tests take forever to come back. And there's not like I can ever book office hours with her BECAUSE SHE NEVER REPLIES BACK!!!
Pitt didn't seem to want to teach, just wanted to talk about her personal life. The classes were basically useless and she was a tough marker on the discussion posts.
hate her assignments, boring lectures, not helpful when emailing, the list goes on.. do not take her courses
This prof is the most frustrating person I've ever met. I don't know why this school hires such incompetent people!!! She spent 3 weeks trying to fix her screen and microphone, she never replies to emails and the TAs aren't allowed to help u. I tried to book office hours with her all semester AND SHE NEVER RESPONDED BACK!!!!!
She provided great examples for concepts that helped me remember it for our midterms. She definitely took her time on slides which shows her dedication to helping us learn course properly. For sure on the tougher side for marketing, you need to follow the outline pretty spot on.
She is a great professor who gives detailed lectures. She provides many examples to help you understand the concepts. Everyone who doesn't like her probably doesn't put effort into her class. Read the instructions and key terms and you won't have a problem getting a good mark.
Have had this prof twice and hate her. Never once went to the lecture as it is unnecessary for this course. Waste of time. However her grading is SO hard. Course had 4x15% quizzes, and a midterm and final paper, 15% and 25% and did horrible on them. So particular with formatting and essentially said every aspect of my paper sucked.
I respect Dr. Pitt as a person and she seems nice, however at times she is difficult to follow. Her teaching method is almost nurturing in a way, however if you talk to her after class she seems colder. Sometimes feels like you're stupid for asking a question. She relates a lot of the material to her hands-on experience in therapy and child-work.
Seems nice when teaching and is very knowledgeable, however, in my experiences speaking with her she was not super friendly. She also makes you feel stupid and like an inconvenience when you email her with questions. The class was 4 quizzes and 2 papers. The papers have very strict and specific guidelines and are challenging to meet and do well on.
Dr Pitt's lectures were really boring as she just read off the screen and has a very monotone voice. She's a super hard marker, and has very strict guidelines for the two papers for the class. Failed my midterm paper just because I didn't format it exactly how she wanted it. The class had 4 online quizzes and 2 papers.
Interesting lectures. Really made you engage with the material. She's got lots of personal lore that she'll drop throughout the semester.
Dr.Pitt is very knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches about and her professional experiences. She always takes the time to answer any questions, either in class or online. She is very thorough in her grading, explanations to questions, content presentations and in talking through assignments. She relates her stories to course content
Was not accommodating and did not have any lecture presence.
we can't record lectures, she doesn't explain well, we can't hear her when she talks because her voice is quiet, and it's hard to ask question.
Condescending when answering e-mails. It's so difficult to want to be engaged with the content when lectures are so so boring.
The SONA participation is useless, just takes 5% away from your mark. Other than that she is chill, the midterms are directly from her outline she provides. She is a bit of a yapper, talks about random things that have nothing to do with the class. She is very kind, just. don't ask the same question someone else already asked.
An interesting class. SONA research projects had no availability which was frustrating since I had to do 4 alternate assignments to make up for the 5% credit. She can be condescending in emails especially if you ask question she's answered in the past.
The material in class and textbook was taught well but don't expect to ask her questions without making you feel stupid. Even if you look on course link for an answer, if you raise your hand and ask a question she WILL answer with "well actually that was on course link" like OMG I WOULDNT HAVE ASKED IF I SAW IT ON THERE!!!
Everyone here is so dramatic. If you check sona everyday, you may be able to have it done late September early October. * not guaranteed, but just check it everyday, and you will get that 5%*. The assignments and midterms are bad so long as you show up, and actually do the readings. Overall it is an enjoyable class if you put in the effort.
Very passionate, great lecturer and lots of stories!! Would highly recommend
Professor Pitt is very passionate about what she teaches, however, she can be a bit unclear during lectures.
Dr. Pitt was a good prof overall. She did well at going as in depth as she could with psychological concepts and other material to help students further understand the course. Although she occasionally came off as condescending, she does care about her students and their success. She is also very understanding and fair.
Very interesting class! Her stories go well with the content and help engage the class. She can rush towards the end of her lectures. She very very clearly explains assignments. If you are planning to do SONA, I would suggest making a groupchat with your friends so that you can let eachother know when there is a new study.
She was honestly a good professor overall. She went off track many times during lectures and can be unclear sometimes. Her assignments are pretty simple and easy to get around.
This was an elective, however I found Dr. Pitts class to end up being one of my favourite classes of the semester. Her content was interesting and engaging, she used her personal experiences to help students understand content. If you like the social sciences and want to enjoy an interesting course, I would 100% recommend taking one of her classes.
Lectures are useless don't go it's a waste of time. Your only assignments are two discussion posts you'll be really confused at first but they're fine. Good luck on the midterms ! Based fully on the textbook.
I needed this class for my major, it was pretty high in quantity of information to learn, but as well as quality. Pitt is kind and caring about her students, and makes things pretty simple.
I loved Dr. Pitt, she has so much experience in the field that she made so many connections from her work to the course content, making lectures more engaging.
The lectures are hard to sit through because her tone isn't very engaging, but she's very nice and wants students to succeed. She has a soft voice, so sit in the front. Exams are in person, the workload is heavy, and she's approachable if you ask for help.
Dr. Pitt is fine I suppose. The content is quite easy to understand, however her lectures are not engaging at all. Theres too much text on the slides and the words are jumbled. The two discussion post assignments were easy. Honestly I'm pretty sure that you can survive this course by just reading the textbook and not studying off the slides.
Dr.Pitt is quite old-fashioned in her lecture-style but its kinda of nice. She teaches right from the textbook and is how I took majority of my notes (just listening and from her slides she posts). She is kinda of cold over email or face-to-face but otherwise I enjoyed this course and her teaching style! Just get ready to make like 500 flashcards!
Fair examinations. Good lecture notes.
Dr. Pitt was a wonderful professor, and you can tell she knows what she is talking about. She genuinely wants her students to succeed, and provides exam review sheets which makes studying easier. She is quite old school, which I liked. The discussion post instructions were simple and clear, and easy to do well on.
Honestly a good prof, she does get off track a lot in lectures but you don't really need to go to all of them anyways. The work is mostly just based of the readings, would take again.
when i say take this course with ANY other professor i mean it. i'm sure she's a nice woman outside of teaching but just run
Prof is very old school but she's sweet. Gets off track a LOT... which sometimes makes the class boring. She's a very fair marker and gives instructions perfectly so if you follow them you get a good mark. She also gives a break down of what you need to study and it's actually the only stuff on the exam which is great and saves time.
only class i enjoyed this semester! dr. pitt made all her lectures engaging and her exams were straightforward. the feedback given on ODPP's were clear as well. you could manage with just doing textbook readings instead of attending lectures.
