The absolute WORST Professor I've ever had in my undergrad years! I wish I got this course over with in the first 2 years. The class is a complete MESS, no organization whatsoever! As far as intelligence, professionalism, and logic are concerned, the biggest mystery to me is how did this woman manage to get a PhD, lacking all of the above...

Okay, it's official, Prof. Slowey must be rating herself on this website -- all the good comments are eerily similar and extol her virtues. In reality, out of the entire class of 200+ students, maybe, at best, a dozen liked her. She's horribly boring as a lectured and the fact that she's rude made this class insufferable. However, TAs are good.

This prof talks really very fast, never posts slides on internet and has on occasions gone into an emotional rant about politics and her personal feelings. Her TAs are very hard markers and class average of 2008 was 56%. Go figure

If you are a student that is Pro-Liberal Feminist who likes to blame men for all the problems, likes to make fun of Christians, likes to make Conservatives look bad at every turn...then you will LOVE her class. Otherwise not.

She runs her class like an egomaniacal dictator. Exam review that consists of 200 terms, 10 of which will actually appear is the opposite of helpful, and it's hard to have a paperless class that is also technology free. Fail.

Very hard class. Speaks primarily only about two subjects, Aboriginals and Quebec. Gave over 150 keywords for the exam and only 10 actually appeared. Two pages for each and a 5 page essay. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS

She is the worst prof I've ever had at York. Very bias opinions and treated her class like an elementary school. Take it with someone else if you can, stay away from her class.

Absolutely unapproachable; self-oriented; and rude! I have a mandatory course with her on the MA level and she is the worst prof I have encountered at York so far. I am an A+ student, and I hate her. Prof Slowey is passionate in the topics she teaches (aboriginal related politcal classes) but thats basically all thats good about her. Shes snarky, gets mad when you ask questions, and doesn't care to create a bond with students. Also she assigns ridiculous amounts of weekly readings (I'm talking 60+ pages of article readings folks) STAY AWAY

Avoid her as a prof as much as possible, she does not know how to communicate with the students, very rude and snarky, does not reply to emails, the readings!? 60+ pages like you don't have other classes. The professor is more of a grammar professor than an Indigenous-studies professor. she's too passive-aggressive. If you are an average student I'd recommend you don't take her class, and if you are a hard-working student, I'd say don't take her class. She's not flexible to work with students to figure out a solution to their problems.

POLS2990:This professor is rude.Does not want her students to exceed.When it was time for course evaluations, she told us if we did not have anything nice to say, don't say it at all!(which undermines the point of anonymous ratings).Gives no time to copy her slides down nor posts them online, but expects you to remember each & every word she says.

York wants to implement Indigenous studies, to teach students about the long lasting effects of colonialism, that Caucasians are favoured & Indigenous peoples are constantly passed up on opportunities. Yet, they hired the whitest and rudest teacher possible.

POLS2990. The TA's genuinely wanted the students to exceed, aware of the fact that none of us students have ever written an exam in person before (due to COVID). Thus, they kindly made 1page of suggestions as to what & how we should study. Right off the bat, the prof deletes it stating it was unnecessary. She has even thrown a fit in class before.

Course POLS2990 is mandatory for poli sci students. Although she is knowledgeable, that does not outweigh the fact she is passive-aggressive (not conducive to a safe learning environment). She genuinely made students scared to raise their hand or ask any questions, and if you did, she would flat out ignore your comment/question.

Worst prof I've had. Sooo passive aggressive, doesn't care about her students, doesn't want them to succeed. A final exam review was posted by the TAs she took It down and said it was not needed. She straight up ignores students and makes a big deal out of everything. She doesn't post notes either. don't take her unless you want to be miserable

POLS 2990! Slowey is extremely disrespectful when students try to point out a valid mistake. It's like her ego gets hurt. Slowey took 30%off my assignment because of grammar, and the writing centre stated that the essay was marked poorly. Slowey didn't provide exam review and basically said to study everything, without giving access to the lecture.

Gabrielle is one of the most frustrating profs ever! Does not care about any of her students succeeding. Do not take her class! Also, when a student asks a question in class, her ego gets to her head. 0/10. Stay away from her.

This professor is extremely disrespectful to her student. No doubt she is passionate about indigenous politics, but she has so much ego that gets in her way when somebody tries to correct her about something she got wrong. She is not open to learning from students younger than her as she thinks she's all-knowing.

Professor Slowey is intelligent & passionate of her field. But, She has passive aggression and doesnt care if you fail or pass. She is way too strict for no reason. Her class is a suicide for your GPA. Heavy readings. Also, she asks you to study everything with no exam review at all, which makes your mission to pass with decent grade impossible.

Honestly, I should've participated in the tutorial more - tutorial participation helps with the overall grade. Prof is hard as most of the ratings say, and she is very opinionated; since its an intro course I didn't think it'd be as hardcore as she has made it. It may be common sense to her but its just our first time learning all this. Do better.

Professor Slowey is very knowledgeable, however she is not a good professor. She goes on tangents and she never posts the slides, so if you miss a class, good luck. She also does not tell you what will be on the final, so you have to study all course material. I got a good TA so I ended the class with a decent grade but avoid her class if you can.

Worst possible professor i've come across. Too bad she is the only one teaching this class so there aren't any other options. Exam is stupidly formatted and A LOT of writing. She wanted us to answer 3 “short answers questions” with 2 pages and then a whole 10 page essay within 3 hours… Avoid her if possible.

I did not like this class at all. The exam format was the worst. We had to write five definitions and one essay. The definitions were for words that seem so minuscule compared to the overall subject over the course. You're better off taking another class for the credit, literally anything would be better than this.

Couldn't select the write course code here but I took an Indigenous Politics course with her as a graduate student. For a settler, she really abuses her authority as a teacher in this particular field. She's coarse, condescending, and has hung numerous grad students out to dry after agreeing to supervise their work and then going MIA. Beware.

Terrible person and even worse prof. If you like being degraded, talked down to and want to experience the most conceited and condescending person, this prof is for you. Loves the sound of her own voice and will relate everything to herself in some capacity. It's like she only teaches things if she has a personal self-inflating story to go with it.

Worst professor you will ever encounter in your undergrad if you're majoring in Poli Sci. I have taken way more complex courses than POLS 2990, and the build-up to the exams were less intense. I think she should focus on teaching her students rather than scaring them with phrases like "ohh in the exam' blalala... almost every lecture.

If you gave this professor a good rating, You probably sit at the front and think you're better than everybody else, but sadly, you're not. People who sit at the back probably have a better GPA than you. In conclusion, if you don't need this course or any of her courses, don't take it! Making a 3-credit course feel like a 9-credit is criminal.

Took this class as a mandatory for my PoliSci degree. While the content is necessary since the Indigenous are part of our Canadian identity, this course was lackluster. She had terrible time management, and refuses to post her slideshows. To survive, you must take pictures, but you're NOT allowed to be on your phone. Run before it's too late.

Doesn't post slides, has 2 lectures a week (Tuesday and Thursday), and the Tuesday lecture is often wasted on watching videos, as she zooms through the slides and cuts off content if she can't cram it into a 1-hour lecture on Thursday, and I've never seen her in a good mood. Colin is a cool TA, though; make him a professor.

This is a professor that you don't want to be in charge of your education. I hope anyone reading this hasn't taken this course because it was mandatory. If you are choosing this course because of credit, just spare yourself and choose anything else. For once, believe the reviews. This is not IGN.

A lot of this professors worst instincts were mitigated by me having an amazing TA. But as for the professor herself, assignments instructions were vague, she didn't post slides or provide any study material for exams, she spoke incredibly fast, and was rude to certain students. Again, had it not been for my TA, my grade would have been much lower

don't ever take this course in your life unless you have to. worst professor ive ever had at york, she loves to target students mid lecture even though those students are the ones giving her salary... didn't even show up for the first month of lectures and then rushed through the course. pls don't take this unless you have to.

I genuinely believe she has blackmail on the university administration; there is no way she is the most qualified person to be teaching Indigenous politics. Her attitude towards students comes off as outright rude and condescending at worst and dismissive at best. Unless you need to take POLS2990, I highly discourage taking this course with her.

The course content was truly beautiful, valuable & rich, but the professors personality stinks and she makes the experience miserable. Her attitude was cold, dismissive, and unwelcoming. She shut's students down and makes the room feel like shit, participating felt like a power trip than a teaching/ learning moment. Drained the life out this course

Professor, well, “researcher”, was obnoxious before she even opened her mouth. Never posted a single presentation at a commuter school, then acted shocked when no one could follow her scrambled lectures. Watching her teach felt like a prank she refused to admit she was pulling. Please, run.

Slowey is very rude, discourages students from asking questions and when Indigenous students in her own class give feedback or try to correct wrong info, she will flat out say she is right and they are wrong. Could've been an amazing and educational class had she not taught it. Her attitude gives white saviour.

Don't take this class unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. The professor's insufferable attitude displayed after being absent for the first month was insane. During the 1-hour lecture, she calls out students who are on their phones or sleeping in a class that they paid for. We never got through all the content in the lectures due to this. Take this AYOR.
