Very good teacher. Interesting material that isn't covered in other Mark405 classes. You do have to work a LOT but you will learn something. A little pompous at times, but an overall nice guy.
One of the best teacher's in Concordia. You have to work to get a good mark in this class but you will definitley learn something new. I highly reccomend taking his course.
Amazing class. Talk about Evolutionnary Psych and he'll love you for it.
One of the best teacher's in Concordia. Motivates you to work hard. Tough at the begininng of the course and by the end a big softy. Show up to every class, he know when you are not there.
He's just the best teacher I've had in my whole education career! This guy is brilliant and respect other brilliant people. People who don't like him probably felt attacked by his critism of the average guy. Take him, you won't regret it!
I only took him for one class.I want to say that this mans views are not the norm, reason for my leaving the course. He is one of two professors in the world who teach his method. He forces his views.Could be interesting however I want to learn what the whole world knows not what this man believes.
If u want an easy grade, avoid. On group projects, the class average is between 67-73%. Really hard to get a good grade. U can't skip.. he takes off points.
I thought his class was interesting and i learned a lot, however, he reinforces his views on you. Everything he does not agree with is pure ****.
I am so happy this course is over. It has my nightmare. I don't speak too much English and he was too tough on me.
Students who do not like this teacher generally dont like to expand their horizons. He doesn't follow the book. If something is in his notes and the book.. know it.. If you get stuck with a bad team change. The project is worth alot. Be creative for project. Marks arent high but at least you learn something.
If you take Gad Saad for this course you will learn much more than if you took a different teacher. You will learn about fundamentals of evolutionary psychology; material which goes way beyond the BS in the textbook. I highly recommend him for that reason. Tests are also easy. The only thing is that he's really stingy with grading the project.
Gad Saad is a great marketing teacher. He knows what he is talking about. His lectures are interesting. His exams are easy but he is very tough when it comes to grading the project. He makes funny comments in class!
Fantastic!
The most amazing prof!!!! interesting, smart, fair, and funny. Never missed a class
He is smart and funny but ....I believe that for the work we do in his class he is not very understanding grades wise......he seems to think he is the smartest person out there. he is smart i give him that but sometimes he gets arrogant! "YOU're Frustrating Me"
very interesting approach with Darwinian theories! he is a great guy who cares about his students and is very passionate about his subject. dont be impressed by his severe syllabus this class is really interesting no finals and exams are MCQ !!! But do NOT think that you can get A if you dont put any effort on it, be intereseted its the KEY !!
best teacher EVER, you wont feel that you already know most of the stuff he's teaching( usually it happens with others teachers) But DONT think you can get an easy grade, participate, show some interest, do not skip class, select your teammates carefully and make sure you choose a project with Evolutionnary Pysch on it !!
amazing teacher, he really knows his stuff! the course is so much more interesting than other marketing courses and its all because he adds his own flavor to it. you won't be bored, and you'll really learn a LOT from him! get started on the readings early though.
Great topic. Too much material to cover. Very entertaining in class. Make sure you show up!
Amazing class. Every lecture was thoroughly interesting and captivating. There's a lot more reading in this section than other 405 classes, but it's well worth it considering the material he provides us (his book + articles) are more interesting than the textbook. It's an easy class if you show up to every lecture and keep up with the work.
very interesting but very hard
Best prof I've had in a while. VERY interesting classes and course material, loves our feedback and participation. A lot of reading though, so get started early. Not exactly an "easy A" but it's worth the work you put into it! There used to be a group project in the past, but that's been removed so now it's just midterm + final + participation pts.
Interesting Prof. He definitly makes the course harder than it should be. He makes you read the Textbook, two of his books which are copys of eachother (it seemed like he had other motives behind making us buy them), and 70 articles. His theory of Evoluionary Psych is actually very interesting although it felt more like a science course sometimes.
Totally agree with the rating below me. Very interesting class but didn't learn much about consumer behavior from a marketing perspective. It felt like a science class and for the amount of work we have to do in his class he is not very understanding about the grades. But very interesting material.
I loved this class. I seriously learned so much, and found everything so interesting. He's passionate about what he does, which makes it really fun to go to his lectures. Study all hit stuff, take it seriously, get into it, and you'll really feel like you learned something!
I hated this class. Prof. Saad was extremely rude with his feedback and it took over a week for him to answer at times. His exams are very difficult and the project even worse. The material could be said to be interesting but it is utterly useless for our professional lives. I regret taking this class and would never recommend it.
In the first week of the class made us buy his books, told us he is always right, bragged about how important he is and talked about his distaste of gendered pronouns and social justice warriors. Security waits outside in case he is attacked by someone, and we are are locked in the classroom for his safety. Dropped the class after that.
Absolutely loved this class. The materials are ntense, he is a tough grader, but it is by far the most interesting class I've taken this semester. I think people that are too sensitive won't like his approach; he is science oriented and speaks the truth, which can hurt some people. Don't let people discourage you, it's interesting and worth it!
The course is one of the easier ones I've taken, definitely a GPA booster, and I didn't really learn much. The professor was corrected multiple times during the lecture and didn't care much about teaching.
Follows reason and logic with a strong grasp of reality.
Poor preparation
Great professor
An absolute character of a prof, extremely interesting topics although at times can feel a little irrelevant to business. He's a very eager facts-and-logic kind of person, and if you're someone who dislikes people like that, then I wouldn't recommend him. Still a fascinating lecturer, and he's apparently pretty famous too.
He is neither as interesting, nor knowledgeable as he acts and the material he presents is from a different century. The class should be called "criticized issues" not "Critical". I don't even know what I will do with this stuff in the business world. He is funny, but not in the way he thinks he is. If you agree with him, you will do well.
This is supposed to be a business course not a philosophy course. The content is easy, but you won't learn much.
He has no idea what he's teaching.
Professor Saad is a great lecturer and has an amazing sense of humor. Unlike many college professors, Saad has common sense and is willing to think skeptically about the practices of academia. A lot of students aren't fans of his views, but for those who either share his opinions or have a thick skin will enjoy his classes!
What an incredible professor. I cannot express enough how great of an experience it was taking his class. Students be sour because he doesnt caress their stupid egos or validate their faulty world views - hands down fantastic teacher
I think some people here haven't even taken his classes and are just posting negatively because he shatters their worldviews with reality so they have to find a place to rant about it. Great professor, extremely knowledgeable, pushes you to think better
Avoid at all costs! Prof Saad doesn't understand what he is teaching. One thing is for sure, it's a nonsensical marketing course. The material is not useful in the business world at all. He is also outdated and, god forbid, you disagree with him on his bogus science. Take another course, any course in fact will be more useful.
Waste of my tuition money for information that should be on a podcast, not an MBA course. Deliverables were useless and more useful if we were in a PhD in evolutionary science. Bad with feedback and is more interested in how much you agree with him than what you learn for your career. Avoid
He spends more time tweeting about his diarrhea and boring lunches than answering emails or preparing for classes. The lectures were 90% about his own niche work and his grievances about feminists, leftists, and wokes. The course was totally useless for the real world. He cancels class frequently to go on interviews with extreme right journalists.
I didn't know who this person was until taking their course; big mistake. Sure he has a phd, but he's a glorified Twitter troll. Nothing more, nothing less. Gad tries to make a name for himself in alt-right spaces, and not even they respect what he has to say. If I could turn back time, I would have dropped his course.
Worst teacher in Canada
He's an awesome guy with a tone of experience.
The professor is very clear in his thought process and presents the ideas in a easy to comprehend and fun manner. Would take his class again
He was incredibly annoying. I don't have any particular feelings about politics nor do I care I just come to class so I can learn not hear how well his book sold or his opiniona on transgenders. A waste of time please either teach or leave the politics to twitter from what I see here
Honestly one of the best classes ive taken at jmsb. You will come out of it a different person.
Social media has ruined this man over time, and he has become such an unpleasant professor to be around. He presents himself as rational truth teller surrounded by woke academics, he is really just pushy and arrogant and suspects people to roll over and listen to him be this way, otherwise they are just denying evolutionary biology and are "woke".
Too much time yapping mindlessly on Twitter not enough time revising lecture material
Verrry gooood
Literally the worst
bad bad bad
New insights, inspiring teacher
Exceptionally good lecturer.
Too bad I graduated. Lectures were great, however I recommend you do your reading beforehand to get the most out of them.
What an incredible professor. I cannot express enough how great of an experience it was taking his class. Do be well prepared and leave your fragile ego at the door.
Professor Saad is an amazing professor. They don't call him the Gadfather for nothing! Listening to him is an experience of pure pleasure. He may be strongly opinionated, but he provides evidence from many different fields of research for his views, which has taught me to build a Nomological Networks of Cumulative Evidence to support my positions.
Really enjoyed the lectures - great insights, thoughtful presentation. Also loved the dry sense of humor. I know some students dislike his anti-woke views on social media but it didn't really come up in class. Highly recommended - would definitely like to take more classes with him.
First thing I liked that he was very charming and knew what he was talking about. I would recommend anyone take his classes for true wisdom. He's a decent man with a pure heart. His teaching is worth the money.
Very interesting and great professor
GOATED professor. must take!
I took his course almost 5 years ago now. Back then I found him to have opinions that I didn't fully agree with, but I didn't care. His lectures were average - most of his jokes landed poorly, and he likes to brag a lot about himself and his book sales. Seemed he never prepared for his lectures and sometimes cancelled lectures. Avoid at all costs.
I took Professor Saad's course on Consuming Instinct a couple of years ago as my last 400-level Marketing class. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and took a lot from attending lectures. He had a tendency to go on many tangents throughout the 3 hours, but I personally found his lectures far more tolerable than other Comm courses.
very outdated lecture material. the lectures were more focused on side commentary than the actual course material. I often did not have a clear sense of what was expected for exams and projects.
One of the worst classes I ever took. This class was a total waste of time and waste of money. The lectures have not been updated in decades and most lectures went into side commentary.
I found this course very discouraging. It offered minimal learning value, and the consensus among my classmates was that the readings and assignments added little benefit for marketing students.
Course material hasn't been updated in a long time. Choose a different class.
I took this course hoping to get something out of it. But the class was really disappointing. The professor made no effort to seriously teach anything, and most lectures became episodes where the professor was making fun of leftists, or bragging about his book sales. I eventually dropped the class as it was a total waste on time and money.
Lectures are outdated and professor spends too much time discussing material that is not relevant to the course. Total waste of time. The professor needs to update the lecture material and needs to care about the welfare of the students.
Got nothing out of the class. Professor needs to update the course material. Not relevant to find jobs in today's market. Avoid completely.
This class is a total waste of time & money. Professor doesn't come prepared to class, has not updated the course material in two decades, and simply talks about random things not at all related to the course. Avoid this class.
Absolutely useless class that has not been updated in decades. Professor takes no effort to teach and spends class time on talking about tangential topics. Please avoid this class and save your money.
at points he could be quite mean and pointed towards people he didn't seem to agree with on certain topics. a bit of a tense environment
The lectures are old and outdated. Classes are more like sermons than a space for intellectual debate. Avoid this class and save your money. You gain zero employable skills from this class.
Total waste of time for anyone looking to upskill themselves in this difficult environment. Spend your money elsewhere.
The course material is outdated and professor cares more about his book sales than making sure that the students pick up some employable skills. Avoid this class.
Scaringly unable to concentrate on his own lecture; endlessly complaining about leftists and wokists and all people who disagree with his ideas.
I stopped going to the lectures after the first month. The professor doesn't come prepared to his lectures and seems to just "wing it". The class material is outdated and professor should care more about his students learning something than complaning about leftists and feminists that he disagrees with.
Encourages debate and critical thinking - can somewhat have controversial opinions and critiques and is widely known across campus for that, but overall very passionate about his material and students
Course Material outdated and lectures are so long and off-topic. Would not take again.
I never understood why more than half of the lecture time was spent discussing tangential topics like politics, and not related to marketing at all. Class is a waste of time and money. I didn't learn anything, and I can say this as I diligently attended every single lecture.
I did well in the class, and the professor bashed liberals which was quite refreshing. But I paid for the class to learn actual employable skills, which I didn't receive. The professor didn't care whether students learned something actually useful.
I replied that I wont attend his class again only because he doesnt actually teach anything related to the course curriculum. The professor is quite entertaining otherwise and will not mind listening to him speak outside of the classroom.
The class strength dropped by almost 75% after the first week as it became clear that the professor was not willing to teach us any real course material. He was simply wasting time in class talking about random topics. I dropped out of the course after 3 weeks, as his lack of respect for students time became unbearable for me.
This is one of the worst classes I took in terms of the course content. Because the professor spent most of the time in the lecture discussing totally random stuff, unrelated to the course material. I wish I had dropped this class entirely. By the time I realized I should drop the class, it was too late, and so I somehow finsihed it.
Great class and great professor! He taught me a lot. Was also very good at getting back to me about additional questions I had.
As pointed out by other commenters, this professor's material is totally outdated. Professor doesn't actually do any teaching.
Professor does not actually teach the course material in his lectures. Most of the time is spent in tangential topics. Nobody should spend money on this class. It is both a waste of time and money.
Easily the worst class that I have taken in my life. Professor is in the wrong profession. He does not want to teach the students anything relevant to the course material during the lectures, and I have serious doubt if he is even qualified to do so. This class should be avoided at all costs. Total waste of time and money.
All the comments saying Gad Saad doesn't actually make any effort in teaching the course material during the lecture hours is 100% correct. I took this class and felt it was a total waste of time and money. He needs to retire as a professor and do whatever else he actually likes doing (it is not teaching).
I learned so much about why wokes and transgenders are enemy of the western civilization
All the professor do in class is complain about feminists and woke and liberals. Like c'mon at least teach some of the course material please!! What a waste.
